THE
DOOM BUGGY
-
TRIVIA
This is one of only three Jackson Bostwick episodes
where Captain Marvel changes back into Billy on-screen.
___
The stunt near the end of the episode (where Captain
Marvel drills for water) made actor Jackson Bostwick severely
sick. Recounting the incident in his interview with Starlog
writer Kim Howard Johnson:
"The sickest I ever got was the time they
had me hanging by my heels and spinning. I had given them the
idea to tie my feet together, wire a cape so it was too stiff
to fall over my head, start spinning me, then haul me up on a
crane and just drop me into the ground. We could skip-frame it
as we came down and it would look like I was drilling into this
hole."
"I didn't realize that this was once used
as torture! I was hanging by 500-pound piano wire and
I would've gone head first into the ground if that thing would
have snapped! Plus, I was spinning on it and it was twisting.
When I made it down into the pit ... my head was just spinning
over and over. The guy said, 'Great, Jackson, can we do it again?'
After they ... spun me down again, they said, 'Can you do it
one more time?' I said, 'Yeah.' I didn't eat anything the rest
of the day, I was so screwed up. My dad, a neurosurgeon, told
me later, 'All they had to do was spin you the other way and
it would have straightened things out for you!' It was miserable."
