Date of Birth: Sometime in 1980
Parents: Through out the years, Xander has spoken little about his parents. He has revealed, that they both drink and fight with one another on a regular basis...especially during the holidays. Recently it was shown that his father was actually abusive to Xander (Restless).
Relationships: Xander's love life has been less then stellar over the years. He developed a crush on a substitute teacher, Miss. French, who turned out to be a She-Mantis, and tried to kill him (Teacher's Pet). Then he dated a foreign exchange student named Ampata, who was actually a mummy trying to suck the life out of him, and his friends (Inca Mummy Girl). He eventually started dating Cordelia, after they found mutual attraction to each other, while being trapped in Buffy's basement (What's my Line). They broke up for a brief time, prompting Xander to ask Amy Madison to cast a love spell to make Cordelia love him again. The spell backfired, as ALL the girls in Sunnydale High began to find him attractive (Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered). They got back together and stayed a couple until she and Oz caught him and Willow kissing, when they rescued them from Spike (Lover's Walk). Recently, Xander is going steady with Anya, which is ironic seeing as Anya, when she was Anyanka the Vengeance demon, was called upon by Cordelia to get back at him (The Wish).
History: Born, Alexander LaVelle Harris, Xander has lived in Sunnydale all his life. It wasn't until he overheard Buffy and Giles talking about vampires, did he first see what was happening in his town (Welcome to the Hellmouth). When he was a kid, he used to play Doctor with best friend, Willow. She would read medical books, and he would allow her to practice on him. Xander has a big sweet tooth for chocolate and an intense fear of clowns. On his sixth birthday, he was frightened by a clown at his party (Nightmares). Though Xander is not a physical as Buffy, or as intellectually involved as Willow and Giles, his contribution to the Gang is that of loyalty.
Sophomore year (1st season): When Xander first found out about vampires, demons and the Slayer, he was the first to jump on the "Slayer Bandwagon", insisting that he could help. That same day had to face staking his good friend Jesse, after he was turned to a vampire (Welcome to the Hellmouth). But even after all that, he was determined to help Buffy when ever he could. Not only because he felt it was right, but because he had a hopeless crush on Buffy.
In the first year, Xander's help, was mostly in the capacity of needing it. With his near fatal encounter with Miss. French (Teacher's Pet) and being turned into a hyena (The Pack), he seemed to be rescued more times then doing the actual rescuing. However, this didn't mean he didn't have his shining moment. When Buffy was drowned by The Master, it was Xander that saved her life, by performing CPR. Without him, Buffy would have died (Prophesy Girl).
Junior year (2nd season): Junior year saw Xander becoming a little more involved in the actual slayage. He would go more and more on patrols with Buffy and Willow, helping out where ever he could. Although he did have his share of troubles. Ampata, a foreign exchange student, tried to suck his life from him in order for her to live (Inca Mummy Girl). He was also one of the many that fell under Ethan Rayne, Halloween Chaos spell. This worked to his advantage, when the spell, that turned him into the costume he bought, happened to be a soldier. Because of this, he was able to assist in saving Buffy from an angry Spike (Halloween).
His association with "bad" magic didn't end there. When he and Cordelia broke up, he asked Amy to cast a spell to make her love him again. It backfired, causing all the girls in the High School to fall in love with him...including Buffy. Eventually, when the spell was broken, they made up (Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered). When the swim team mysteriously began to die, he went undercover to help find out why. Later it was discovered that they didn't die, they were being turned into fish-people by their coach (Go Fish).
At the end of the school year, it was learned that Angelus was planning on re-awakening Acathla. While Buffy went out to fight him, Xander stayed at the Library as Willow and Giles began to cast the Restoration Spell, that would return the vampire's soul. They were interrupted and in the battle, Xander's arm was broken, protecting Cordelia, Willow was knocked unconscious, and Giles was kidnapped (Becoming part 1). Later, he went with Buffy to help rescue Giles. He managed to get the badly tortured Watcher out of the Mansion, while Buffy fought he ex-lover (Becoming part 2).
Senior year (3rd season): Xander's senior year was wrought with great personal turmoil. After having a brief fling with Willow, Cordelia broke up with him for good (Lover's Walk). He was there unwitting object of a Vengeance Demon, named Anynaka. Although no-one had any memory of the alternate Sunnydale that was created by Cordelia's wish, it was shown that in that world, Xander had become a terrible vampire, who was later staked by the alternate Buffy (The Wish). Xander was also the first Scooby to find out that Angel was alive and hiding in Sunnydale (Revelations).
His worth was question by himself and his friends, when they excluded him from trying to stop the Hellmouth from reopening. He ended up actually saving the day when he stopped a fellow student, turned zombie, from blowing up the High School (The Zeppo). His first experience with sex, came in the form of, so to be Rogue Slayer, Faith. After being pumped up from an intense battle, she and Xander went back to her motel room, and had passionate sex (The Zeppo). She then tried to choke him at when he come to her a second time. This was a ploy to allow Angel to kidnap her in order to try and help the troubled Slayer (Consequences). He also began dating Anya, who had developed an attraction for him (The Prom). During Graduation, he lead one of the groups of students in the battle against the mayor (Graduation part 2).
Freshman year--UC Sunnydale (4th season): While Buffy and the other's were going off to college, Xander remained behind, living in his parent's basement (The Freshman). He held down several jobs over the year, including helping Giles with his cataloging of books (The Harsh Light of Day), bartender (Beer Bad), hot dog stand guy and digger (Pangs). He also worked at a Pizza place (Doomed), "Boost Bar" distributor (The I in Team) and as an Ice-cream man (Where the Wild Things Are).
Giles, Xander found himself "out of the loop" in his effectiveness as a Slayerette. He couldn't cast spells, and Buffy had the help from the Initiative now. This began to fester feelings of inadequacy, that Spike used to help Adam separate the gang (The Yoko Factor). Eventually Spike's mission failed, and Xander was able to assist Giles and Willow in casting a spell to help Buffy destroy Adam (Primeval).
Sophomore year UC Sunnydale (5th Season): This year started out pretty much the same as any other year for Xander. He became Dracula's "man-bitch", when the powerful vampire hypnotized him into doing his bidding (Buffy VS Dracula). After that humiliation, and the fact that he ate spiders, he vowed to get his life back in order. His first step was to land a construction job (The Replacement) and helping Giles get his new store, up and running. He surprised not only himself, but everyone else with his skills in carpentry (Out of my Mind). And, of course, he continues in helping Buffy where ever he can. Keep a close eye on Xander this year...it promises to be a good one.
