PART ONE

"Liz!" Max yelled as she walked away. She kept on going toward the dusty, dry desert. She didn’t feel Max’s loving hand hold her back. Without that she began to run faster and tears were streaming down her face. Max wanted to go after her, but Michael held him back. He couldn’t know how much Max didn’t believe in his destiny with Tess. Yet Michael loved Maria, not Isabel, she was like a sister to him. Liz ran all the way to Maria’s car. She got in and sat back.

"Max, I’m so sorry." She said this in a whisper between sobs. She looked over to the cliff where all four stood side by side. She saw Max looking down. He looked so sad. But she saw Tess standing right next to him and she turned on the car and drove away.

"Max? What do we do now?" asked Tess. "I don’t know." Max’s mind wasn’t on that, it was on Liz. He needed her and he felt he had to go after her, but she already drove away. He had to fight to save his race and be what he was born to be, or should we say created to be. So now Max had to choose, a whole other world counting on him and his supposed "destiny" or the girl that would make him happy for the rest of his life.

Liz arrived back to the quiet town of Roswell. She pulled the car up to the Crashdown Café. She stormed through the door alarming the customer. In the back were Alex and Maria. Maria had her head buried into Alex’s shoulder. By her shoulders shaking, Liz could tell that Maria was crying.

Alex lifted his head when he heard the door shut behind Liz. Liz’s face was streaked with tears. Her eyes were red from the loss of Max. Maria lifted her head to see Liz too.

"It’s over," Liz tried hard to keep from bursting, but she just couldn’t when Maria come over to give her a hug.

"Why did we ever fall in love with them?" Liz heard this and questioned it too. "Why did Max did Max have to save my life if he had to leave me?"

"Guys I’m gonna head home for now," Alex said. Alex was lucky in a way, Isabel was coming back to him and they were not gonna break up. Liz and Maria, they were the ones hurting the most. Well actually Liz was not hurting, she was destroyed. Liz and Maria headed up to her room. They went out on the roof. Each of them cried to one another about their losses.

By this time Tess, Isabel, Michael, and Max were back in the cave where they first received the message from their mother.

"We need to go and fight the bad ones she was talking about." Michael sounded demanding and ready to go.

"No we just can’t go Michael. We should stay here. We’re safe here. Let them come to us." Michael just shook his head, objecting to what Isabel said.>

"I’m not going back to the way things use to be. We can’t!"

"Michael, Isabel is right we have to stay and act normal. Pierce is dead, it’s safe to go home." Max knew the right thing was to go back to their normal lives. The only thing was, Liz was not with him anymore.

"What about me? Where do I go?" Tess broke the silence. Max was eager to tell her to leave, but he could never be that mean. Isabel popped up; "You can stay with me and Max!"

Max shook his head at this. "No, Isabel, what would we say to Mom and Dad?" Michael sighed, "Tess you can stay with me."

Max needed Liz. How could she just leave him like this?

Deep down Liz was thinking of how she needed him, but the book said he belonged with Tess. Maria left when 10 o’clock came around. Both got nowhere in their little conversations, but they felt good just crying to each other. Liz lay on her favorite chair and began to write in her journal.

Today was the hardest day of my life. I had found Max and then had to let him go so he could fallow his destiny. I wanted him to be able to help his home, If he never would help them I would feel bad for his family dying. I could never let him loose when he’s so close now, I love him that much. But now I’m alone. Will I ever recover? I wonder where Max is now and what he’s doing?

Max tossed and turned. He lay in his bed. Thinking about Liz, the touch of her soft skin. The way she saw him through those beautiful eyes. How she understood him. She didn’t run when she found out what he was. They connected. They made love in the old truck. Just last night, Max saw into her the way she saw into him when they kissed. But something else happened. He saw a beautiful little girl that he thought he knew. He felt the warm tears swelling in his eyes. Max was dying here and he had to get out. He put on his pants grabbed a tee-shirt and climbed out his window.

Liz’s eyes began to grow heavy. She remembered the night after they rescued Max. She remembered how she was so scared for Max. How she felt when she was in his arms. Liz could tell that Max had seen something, experiencing something. What was it? But that thought was flooded away by the grief.

"Oh Max, I love you so much," she said this as she begun to cry again.

As Max was walking down the street, he suddenly stopped and had a flash of Liz crying. She was on her roof. He knew that he had to be there for her.

PART TWO

Max neared the corner to the crashdown. He could see the latter going up to Liz’s balcony. He climbed it slowly not wanting to alarm anyone. When he got to the top he could see Liz sleeping one her chair. She had a blanket over her and her journal was across her chest. Liz looked so peaceful sleeping that he melted at the sight of this. It was cold so Max took off his brown leather jacket and out it on her. At the touch of her he had another flash. (Liz was standing in the desert, crying. Max, Tess, Isabel, and Micheal were walking to a silver space ship. Liz tried to run after then, but when she tried to stop him, he just kept on walking on. Liz fell to the ground.) Max felt the pain she was experiencing and it torn him apart to feel this. He softly touched her cheek and she stirred at this.

"Liz," he said in a soft voice. Lis slowly opened her eyes. They grew wider as she focused in on Max. After the dream that she just had she was thankful that Max wasn’t walking away from her like in her dream.

"Max? What are you doing here?" She said this not in a mean way, but in a calming, questioning way, like she was glad for him to be there.

"Liz I wanted to see if you were OK. I felt that you were upset." His eyes widened when and then a soft puppy look came over his face as he stared at her.

"Max, I’m fine." She said this reasurringly hoping that he would leave before she would start crying again.

"Liz, why did you run away?" Max choked a little when he said this. Liz feeling helpless to what she felt said,

"Cuz Max you’re into something now that does not have a place for humans. You are destined to with Tess. It says so int the book. I’m not suppose to be with you."

Max wanted to yell that he loved her and that he didn’t care what that book said, his heart belonged to her. But he had already told her that. What good was it going to be to say it again? But something disturbed their conversation. It was Liz’s parents coming home.

"Max you better get going."

Max didn’t want to leave, but he didn’t want to be found.

"Bye..." was all that came rom the soft lips that once gave Liz a kiss when they departed. Liz watched calmly as Max put his feet on the ladder. He looked up at her as her eyes sparkled from the tears beginning to swell.

"Liz, I don’t care what the book said."

Liz knew that he didn’t care, but the book was real and it held their destiny. Even the orbs said it. Maybe things were just to big and it had no place for her. She couldn’t hold Max back from what he’s been searching for since the day he came out of the pods. He was closer than he’s ever been closer before. She just loved him too much to hold on to him. Max just starred at her for a couple of seconds waiting for her to respond. Liz had tears streaking her face.

"Max, I know you don’t care, but you are close to finding your life."

Max was going to respond but there was a knock at her bedroom door. So he began to go down the stairs.

"Yeah?" Liz yelled in a fake cheery voice.

"Lizzy, hunny, its getting late."

Liz walked to the edge of the roof to see Max jump from the last step on to the ground. When he got his footing he looked up to see Liz looking at him. A tear dropped down to where he was standing. Max walked away.

He, himself, shedded a tear to the ground. The suspense was killing him. He couldn’t run up to Liz. Hold her, smell her sweet scent. He was supose to be with Tess, but he couldn’t stand one minute away from Liz.

Liz went back into her room. She placed on a tank top and a pair of plaid pj pants. Liz let herself drift back on to her bed. Retracing her last moments with Max.

She was literally beating herself up. Why couldn’t the orbs have never worked? The orbs are what scarred her the most. The book was just a book. But it had more value then she thought. Oh why did Max have to come to her? Even though she was thankful that he woke her up from that terrible dream. Would that happen? Would she be totally oblivious to Max in the future? Would he leave with Tess? She really didn’t want that to happen. But it was going to happen, because that’s what Max’s destiny carried for them.

Max arrived back at his house. He crawled into his window. He took off his jacket (Liz gave it back to him when she first heard her parents car). With a sigh, he too laid back on his bed. "Oh Liz I love you, I don’t care about my destiny, I told you that."

Max just got more frustrated thinking about this. He stripped down to his boxers. He crawled underneath his sheets. Its been a long day, it was the worst day of both of their lives. And now both were going to go to sleep, or at least try.

Eventually Liz’s crying made her drowsy. She pictured Max looking up at his ceiling.

"I love you Max," she whispered.

Max heard what she said and whispered back,

"I will always love you Liz."

And she heard it too.
