BUFFY: What Happens Next!!

We’ve got our first, very confident look at the first eight UPN episodes of the best television show in production, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

Here’s the big news:

* Buffy and Spike become more than friends before Thanksgiving.

* The increasingly powerful telekinetic redhead Willow is going to go from Marvel Girl to Dark Phoenix. Look for her to emerge as the season’s Big Bad.

* A midseason wedding is planned for Xander and Anya, but when an anxious Xander gets cold feet on wedding day, Anya turns back into a vengeance demon and seeks out the boy who stood her up. But even in demon-mode Anya realizes she can’t hurt her little butt-monkey -- and reverts back to human.

* There will be a recurring little bad this season as a trio of bored twentysomethings begin using dark magic to conjure demons. Nerdy Jonathan, last seen in “Superstar,” will be one of the more harmless members of the troika.

Here’s a rough breakdown of the episodes through November sweeps:

Buffy 6.1/6.2
Buffy is dead and buried. Giles, with no slayer to watch, heads back to England. Anya has taken over the Magic Box. Willow and Tara are acting as Dawn’s guardians. And Willow has reprogrammed the Buffybot: it not only slays Sunnydale’s demons, it goes to college and attends PTA meetings so Dawn’s dad remains unaware of Buffy’s death. Willow uses her growing powers to revive Buffy, but the spell is slow-acting and the gang misses the slayer’s emergence from the grave. When Buffy does get back above ground, she is not herself and wanders back to the scene of her own death.

A demon motorcycle gang rides into Sunnydale to challenge the Buffybot. The demons damage the Buffybot badly but it stays “alive” long enough to tell Dawn of Buffy’s return. Dawn finds Buffy at the tower, where Buffy defeats the demon gang and, at episode’s end, reunites with the Scoobies.

Buffy 6.3
As the Scoobs contend with a demon ghost, Buffy realizes she was happier with the peace of the afterlife. She finds a sympathetic ear in someone else who knows something about an afterlife: Spike.

Buffy 6.4
With Joyce gone, Buffy finds herself trying to contend with burst pipes and home-improvement loans.

She seeks out the advice of a just-returned Giles and indulges an off-camera meeting with Angel (which makes Spike very jealous). Buffy’s ongoing frustration is bad news for the demon dispatched by a trio of bored, twentysomething would-be sorcerers to the slayer’s home. Buffy begs the demon not to break anything, and winds up drowning him in a pool of water formed by her plumbing leak.

Buffy 6.5
When Dawn lies to Buffy and spends Halloween night joyriding and partying with boys, Buffy finds herself having to assume the role of parent/disciplinarian. Meanwhile, after Willow and Tara have a fight about Willow’s abuse of magic, Willow casts a spell on Tara to make her forget the fight.

Buffy 6.6
Panicky about his impending marriage to Anya, Xander accidentally concocts a “truth spell” that causes everyone in Sunnydale to reveal all of their innermost thoughts and feelings in song.

When Buffy and Spike learn of their true feelings for each other, they share their first real kiss.

Willow reveals in song that she cast a spell to make Tara forget their fight, and Tara decides to break up with Willow as a result. Finally, Giles decides to return to England for good.

The episode’s original score and lyrics were written by Buffy creator Joss Whedon.

Buffy 6.7
Giles says his good-byes as he finalizes preparations for his return to the U.K.

Buffy 6.8
When a demon invades Buffy, making it impossible for her to determine what is and isn’t real, she winds up in a mental hospital.

From Wanda's chat at E! Online

From Alen: I was wondering how Buffy comes back.
In the first episode, I guarantee you see three things: (1) Buffy Bot fills in as town slayer and accompanies Dawn to parent-teacher meetings (and totally humiliates her). She "reports" to Willow. (2) Willow uses a spell to "bring back" some form of the real Buffy, which coincides with the arrival of this season's first big baddie. (3) Buffy watches as the baddie's gang tears apart Buffy Bot.

From jonas007: Which is more likely...that we'll see Shannen Doherty on Buffy or Shannen Doherty in the buff?
Shannen in the buff. 10 to 1 odds.

From hjsdf: What do you mean by "some form of the real Buffy"? I want the same old Buffy hero back.
Don't we all. But I'm promised she's just enough old Buffy that we "won't miss her," with new elements thrown in so we "won't get bored."

From gee_spot: Spill! Who's the first big baddie?
Name's Razor. Think bigger, badder version of Freddie Kruger, complete with switchblade hands. One of his minions discovers Buffy Bot isn't the real Buffy, and he jumps into action, subsequently breaking up the site where the gang tries to bring back Buffy with Will's spell.

From kylie: Heard anything on the Buffy musical?
Just this sweet little tidbit: It includes a love song from Tara to Willow. Awww...Read that in a very cool article that's coming out in the August issue of Out magazine, which boasts Alyson Hannigan's purty li'l mug on the cover. It's a must-read for any Buffy fan. Joss and Alyson let a few spoilers slip while discussing the Willow-Tara storyline and talk about that first kiss last spring.

Quotage: "We must have kissed a hundred times," recalls Amber Benson, whose character initiated the power smooch to comfort her sweetie over the death of Buffy's mom. "It was very nice." "After one take," remembers Hannigan, "Joss did say, 'Can we have one that's less like you're going to sleep together in about five minutes?'"

From E! Online

Death Becomes Her
It's going to be much darker than it was before." --Buffy the Vampire Slayer insider on star Sarah Michelle Gellar's hair color for next season.

Kidding!

So sorry for my hairy humor. Actually, S.M.G. has spent so much time and effort gradually becoming the straw-tressed boob-tube stalwart she is, I somehow don't think that reshading will occur.

Besides, Sarah has other things to worry about, like how to come back to life, now that she's defunct and all.

I swear. Ever since some nasty Dallas-ite shot J.R., maiming little-screen stars has become the cliffhanger on which to end a strip's season. The West Wing did it, as did Melrose Place. Queer as Folk also just opted for that ol' standby scenario. Oh, how I wish somebody would figure out a way to fit this reliable plot device into Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Never mind. Back to the vampy vampirism:

Delivered to me as if it were the raison d'ê´²e in both the Julia Roberts-Benjamin Bratt and Tom Cruise-Nicole Kidman bust-ups (more about that next week), I've been informed precisely how that petite hit pixie makes a killer resurrection.

But let's back up first, doll-faces: What I was told merely confirms what that spectacled sweet upstart Wanda (you go, girl!), has already reported: that purty Alyson Hannigan is the one who will save the prime-time day:

"Willow's going to bring her back to life," said the Buffy source who's privvy to next season's shenanigans. "Willow's gotten more and more into magic, and that's how she's going to do it."

Well, obviously the producers had better work something out. Because, as I was also so delicately told, Ms. G. was paid "a shitload of money" for the next two years on her contract.

From Johanna's site:

Confirmed:

- Buffy returns.

- There will be a musical episode (written and composed by Joss Whedon himself).

- EC said that Joss wanted Anya to turn into Anyanka for two or so episodes.

- Marti Noxon wrote the first hour of the season premiere, David Fury the second.

- Buffy/Spike is not "unthinkable" (said by Marti Noxon during an interview).

- Giles will be a recurring character this season, since ASH might be getting a short spin-off on BBC, England. He'll be in four episodes (so far).

- Joss has said that he has a "spectacular non-crossover" planned. Huh?

Unconfirmed:

- Willow turns bad, but it's subtle. She puts a memory charm on Tara to make them forget a fight they've had about black magic.

- Doc comes back to party (I highly doubt it, but it would be cool).

- R.E.M guest star, bringing their own "Buffy tune" with them. This is still in the talks, but I think UPN would be more than happy to snag this band for a one-epper. Besides, it sounds more valid than Shannen Doherty coming to Buffy (which is complete and utter bullshit, by the way).

- Spike gets his chip out later in the season.

From the BuffySearch Message Boards
*NOTE* I'm pretty sure the following spoilers are FALSE because a lot of the stuff that I know to be true contradicts these spoilers... I just thought I'd share, just in case. :)

Um, I'm not sure where you got most of that, but some of it is true, but Spike and Buffy will have two kisses throughout the season, and the singing episode is not one of the episodes that they kiss in. Also the bit about Tara/Willow is true, the demon bikergang is not, Buffy does NOT end up in a mental institution, Anya does not become Anyanka on the wedding day, in fact the singing episode in not the episode Xander and Anya even get married in, the episode "Til Forever" is two episodes after the singing episode. But actually Dawn is the one who casts the wrong truth spell, she thinks all of the Scoobies think she's too little to hang out with them, so she wants to find out the truth. But with truth comes pain when Buffy reveals to Dawn that she is not ready to act as a mother and can't take Dawn's needs anymore because she has her own. Also, the one about the bored trio of twenty year olds practicing magic is a fake, but Jonathan will have a small role in the season but not as a witch/wizard. Also, Spike will be the one who will have custody of Dawn, but it will not be legal custody because the BuffyBot will be keeping Buffy's place until she is reincarnated. this is because Buffy told spike to protect Dawn until the end of time. so I just wanted to clear that stuff up, but other than that stuff most of that is right!

- New unconfirmed spoiler is now spreading across the net. Some guy claimed that all the spoilers about the musical, B/S, the Buffy ressurection and such were false, and that Buffy will instead be "re-built" in the ritual that created the first slayer in Africa. I doubt this too, as i do with all spoilers. But hey, who am I do discriminate?

- AICN have removed the script parts from their Buffy Spoilers, inclining me to believe that they've either found out that the stuff was complete bullshit, or that they've been pressured into taking them off by UPN or the Buffy crew becuase they're true. It's sort of a 50/50 draw here.

An excerpt from an interview with writer, David Greenwalt:

Despite intense speculation and polarized opinions on whether Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) should ever reciprocate lovesick vampire Spike's (James Marsters) affections -- after they somehow raise her from the grave she went into at season's end -- Greenwalt's pretty sanguine about the concept. "It's so wrong," he says with a laugh. "You know the boyfriend you hate, but it's just for the sex, and your friends all hate him, but you can't leave him? It's a natural place for her to go, in this year of her life. She's so troubled. He's the one she can talk to. It's just one of those funny quirks of life. Credit to Joss, he's not doing Sam and Diane of 'Cheers' for five years."

From JamesMarsters.com and The Buffy Cross & Stake Board

OLD - From everything I've been told so far, the two-hour premiere will consist of two separate episodes aired together like the show's initial premiere. The premiere episode on the NEW network will supposedly reintroduce the show to new fans and still continue the story for old fans.

OLD - A reconstructed Buffybot temporarily fills in for Buffy after her death. This ensures that Dawn doesn't get taken away and that the streets of Sunnydale are kept somewhat safe.

NEW! - Willow, with the others close behind, does use magic at Buffy's grave site. It may have something to do with bringing Buffy back, it may be entirely responsible for bringing Buffy back or it may be a failed attempt. (I'm not saying which cause filming was kept completely private and even some of the script has been said to be deceiving as to what really happens. The magic does happen, but what it actually does, is not completely clear.)

NEW! - Spike has not gone anywhere after the death of Buffy. In fact, his guilt about not protecting Dawn, keeps him as close to the Scooby Gang and especially Dawn as he can get.

NEW! - A gang of vampires on motorcycles are the supposed main villains, at least for the premiere. The cocky group wreak havoc in Sunnydale, wounding the Buffybot and interrupting efforts to bring Buffy back.

Spoilers for episode 5, from Autumn at the Kitten board:

Episode #5 is called "Life Serial"

It seems to be an episode where Buffy is trying to get back into the swing of things. She tries going back to college, working construction with Xander's male chauvenist pig construction crew, selling at the Magic Box, and even goes out and gets drunk with Spike.

Meanwhile time is reacting oddly for her jumping and looping.

Tara is in the episode (even taking an art appreciation class with Buffy). Jonathan and Warren are also in the episode following Buffy around with someone named Andrew. This is also one of the episodes Giles is in.

From Ain't It Cool News

The big news?
It now looks like the “little bad” to which Coax made reference on July 4 will be acting as a kind of weak-minded, college-boy Legion of Doom to balance the Scoobs’ increasingly powerful super-hot college-girl Justice League.

Legion of Doom?
Jonathan will apparently not be the only familiar component of the evil troika. Jonathan has hooked up with Warren, the fellow Sunnydale High alum who assembled the Aprilbot and the Buffybot in season five.

Who’s the third member of the evil trio?
Somebody named Andrew. If this is a character from a previous episode, I’m sure somebody in talkback will point him out soon enough.

And if Andrew isn’t someone we’ve already met?
Wellsir, there was word early on that Team Whedon was planning to have one member of the evil troika turn out to be a lot more malicious than the other two. One guesses this makes Andrew look all the more suspicious.

Any other tidbits of questionable importance?
One reliable source indicates that one of Jonathan’s compatriots in the evil troika was originally supposed to be named Trevor.

When will we meet this little bad?
Presumably in 6.5 (or the end of 6.4).

Do the members of the little bad have superpowers?
Of course!

Like what?
Like they can convincingly masquerade as demons, for one thing!

What do they do in 6.5?
Mostly they stalk Buffy in their “supercool surveillance van” -- though the slayer fails to notice until very late in the episode (she’s got a ton of stuff to fret over in that week).

What’s Buffy up to in 6.5?
The slayer’s still trying to find her place in a world where she’s been suddenly transformed from mama’s girl to surrogate parent. Searching for what to do (when she’s not extinguishing the otherworldly), she in rapid sequence: audits a couple UCSunnydale classes with Willow and Tara; takes a job hauling iron beams on Xander’s construction site; hires on as Anya’s underling at the Magic Box; and gets hammered with Spike in a local pub – a pub that attracts clientele similar to that serviced by L.A.’s Carnitas. Nothing works out.

How is Buffy such a misfit?
Well, for one thing, she’s inexplicably experiencing all kinds of time displacement. At one point, everything around her suddenly speeds up like somebody hit a fast-forward button. Then she keeps getting caught up in a “Groundhog Day”-like time-loop.

I thought 6.5 was going to be the Halloween episode.
The Halloween episode was likely bumped to 6.6 due to the season premiere being moved up a week, from Oct. 9 to Oct. 2.

Is Herc sensing any hints of decline in quality now that “Buffy” has migrated to UPN?
Judging by the scriptage we’ve thus far stumbled across, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.5 are all pretty geniusy, especially in the comedy department. And 6.5 should be exceedingly hilarious. The words that spring to mind are “continued upswing.” Kids, Herc love love loves “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Not only is it far and away the funniest show on TV, it routinely makes Mr. The Strong bawl like an 8-year-old girl.

OK...I know it's vague and hardly anything to go on, but I posted to Steve DeKnight and this is how it went...

Cashmere says: (Sun Aug 26 21:22:25 2001 24.95.89.186)

Steve DeKnight glad I didn't miss you while I was tending to the care and feeding of the hubby. Since you're here...give us Spike lovers something to hope for for Season 6, will ya? Mmmmm?

To which he replied...

Steve DeKnight says: (Sun Aug 26 21:51:25 2001 4.33.172.105) Cashmere: There will be much Spike rejoicing for you this season. That's all I'm saying.

From Wanda's chat at E! Online

bittywillow721 asks: I need to know! Will Spike be singing to Buffy in the musical episode?
Yep. All of the major characters will be lending their vocals.

nightspirit asks: Wanda, are you and Herc (from AICN) having a tussle over who has all the correct Buffy news? And, how do you feel about the Spoiler Slayer keeping track of your hits and misses?
Actually, Herc and I worked out our differences over a couple of tartinis (ode to SATC) last week. And I must say, that strapping Herc certainly lives up to his name.

Elizabeth asks: What are the odds of these pairs becoming couples: Lorelai/Luke, Buffy/Spike, Angel/Cordelia?
Wanda replies: By the end of the season, I'd say: 70/30, 60/40, 40/60.

Episode 3 - "FLOODED"

EXT BACK PORCH - NIGHT

Buffy is standing outside, within earshot of the kitchen. She is hugging herself against the cold, and hearing every word from overhead:

GILES (O.S.)
And I'm far from convinced she's come out of all this undamaged.

Buffy stays standing where she is in the cold. She looks down. See a CIGARETTE BUTT land at her feet. She steps on it, grinds it out. Without looking up:

BUFFY
Hello, Spike.

Spike steps out of the shadows, approaches Buffy.

SPIKE
You hear all that noise?

Buffy nods.

BUFFY
Just enough to make me feel crappy.

SPIKE
You know watcher-boy doesn't mean anything by it.

BUFFY
I guess. Everyone's all...they all care. They all care so much, it makes it all harder.

SPIKE
Not sure I followed 'round that bend, love.

BUFFY
I don't know. I just feel like, like I'm spending all my time trying to be okay, so no one'll worry. It's exhausing, and then I get all... (can't find the words)

SPIKE
...and that makes 'em worry even more.

Buffy mods, relieved to be understood without words.

SPIKE (cont'd)
Want me to taken 'em out? Give me a hell of a headache, but I could probably thin the herd a little.

He smiles, slyly -- joking. Buffy can't quite supress a smile of her own. This pleases Spike.

SPIKE (cont'd)
Knew I could get a grin.

Buffy sits. Spike sits beside her.

BUFFY
Why are you always around when I'm miserable?

SPIKE
'Cause that's when you're alone, I reckon. I'm not much for crowds myself these days.

BUFFY
Me either.

SPIKE
That works out nicely then.

And they sit in silence, looking out at the night.

BUFFY
So, you know anything about finances?

(UPN, Tuesdays at 8:00pm) Exhale - Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) will be back. "Death is not the largest obstacle in Buffy's world," says executive producer Marti Noxon. As for the rest of the Scooby Gang, they'll experience growing pains: Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and Tara (Amber Benson) help Buffy play mommy to Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg), who is in adolescent hell, while Xander (Nicholas Brendan) and Anya (Emma Caulfield) take steps toward wedded bliss. Watch for more Spike (James Marsters), whose love for Buffy won't die as easily as she did; less Giles (Anthony Stewart Head); and a foe who's not so otherwordly as least year's freaky demigod, Glory. Set your VCRs: The sixth episode is an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza.

From Ain't It Cool News

Spike's New Ride
In the Oct. 2 "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" season premiere, Spike, in a highly dramatic and entertaining fashion, will impulsively acquire a motorcycle from a demon biker who has just invaded a slayerless Sunnydale with his gang. It's now clear that Spike will come to like the bike enough to use it throughout season six as his new regular mode of transport.

Spike's Other New Ride
When Coax revealed back on July 4 that Spike and Buffy would become more than friends by Thanksgiving, some claiming to be insiders insisted the pair would kiss only twice this season. We now understand that Spike and Buffy will kiss more than twice, and – to the rest of the Scooby Gang's horror – go way way way beyond tongue wrestling. Read Herc's FAQ on the "Buffy" season premiere here. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" returns Oct. 2 on UPN.

An article I found at Katrillion.com

Spike and Buffy Relationship Heating Up?

(Katrillion) -- So, with UPN's tag line for the new season being "Buffy Lives," it's no surprise that our favorite slayer will be not be dead for long.

However, what will be more interesting is how the resurrected Buffy will spend her free time this season.

Well, word on the street is the sexy slayer will be getting very, very cozy with the man ... actually, vampire ... she once set out to kill. That's right, folks. Buffy and Spike will be sharing way more than a smooch this season.

Recently, we told you that the duo may exchange a kiss or two before Thanksgiving, but now, according to Ain't It Cool News, that one kiss has turned into a full-blown romance. In fact, it looks like the smooching session between the two lovebirds will involve more than a few pecks on the cheeks.

So all you "Buffy" gurus may finally get what you want. In a recent Katrillion poll, 71 percent said that romance between Buffy and Spike would be a great twist to the show. Unfortunately for the rest of the slayer gang, this is just bad news. As you can guess, Xander and company will be none too pleased with this blossoming romance.

But once again "Buffy" buffs, these are just rumors, so take them for what they are, nothing more, nothing less.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" premieres Oct. 2 on UPN at 8 p.m. ET.

From the Spoiler Zone

Here's the Episode 6 tidbits:

OK, got a look at some parts of Ep. 6, which is not the mental hospital episode but is the Dawn joyriding episode, titled "All the Way."

Spooky, teenage angsty and Halloweeny. Most of the available stuff has to do with Dawn, but there is one scene where Buffy sees a couple making out, and she looks at them "with longing." And no, I don't think she wants a threesome. Spike's there in another scene, helping to fight some vamps. One line he has: "I'm a rebel. You're an idiot."

It also looks like they're having a party at Buffy's to celebrate X/A's engagement. X and B are talking about her wallowing (about what, I don't know). She decides to leave the party and stop by to get Spike and take him up on his offer of a patrol. It is while she's walking to Spike's that she sees the couple making out and looks at them with longing.

The Buffy Promo transcript:

Buffy eyes (you know the shot of just her eyes, kind of grayish)

Narrator: Sunnydale has gone to hell.

Demon biker (I think Razor): Tear it up!

Scenes of fire, demon bikers going to town. tara running, Spike in foreground a little blurry.

Dawn's voice: "It looks like they're wrecking stuff. Destructorama."

We cut to a scene of Spike and Dawn. Spike is in front of Dawn, protectively, as they're behind some bushes. They seem to be watching Destructorama.

Buffy eyes.

Buffy(Bot?) with Willow and Tara and bats/sticks, attacking something (demon biker?). Xander is fighting off Razor with a metal thing (like a hub cap?).

Narrator: Without Buffy her friends are fighting a losing battle.

Zoom in on crypt, with Willow standing on top. Fade to demon biker.

Anya and Xander standing. Anya: Less talk. More running away.

Spike, Tara and Giles running.

Narrator: Without Buffy, life just sucks.

Spike facing off against demon biker on bike. Straight on shot of Spike, zooming in, then he jumps to the side. (Way cool!)

Willow talking: He just gets kind of cranky...

Shot of Spike punching someone/thing.

Willow continues: ...the way vampires do.

Buffy eyes.

Hand comes out of grave.

Here's the location shoot report from Janna, from the SMG board:

Well I got to see Sarah walk around with her bodyguard (different one than usual), met Danny Strong and got an autograph, smiled at Nicholas and got a "Hi" out of him, made some security guard friends and made a few new BtVS fan friends.

Absolutely no pictures to share however, "closed set" were the 2 words of the day although I did find out a few items of interest. Saw the "little bad" film a few of their scenes, Jonathan, Warren, and the other guy (the one who's going to be the main evil one). Jane Espenson wrote the episode I was watching them film, and that comes from Danny himself. Happened to have my trading cards with me and got Danny to sign the "strange sightings" card with him in his bathing suit. He asked me my favorite episode and he said, "Superstar... why thank you!" That's when I asked him if Jane wrote him some good stuff again this season and he said she wrote this ep we are working on right now. Told him I love Jane's work, etc.

Nick and Sarah were shooting a scene where Buffy is working on the construction site with him. Could not hear dialogue, but did see Sarah carry a girder back and forth a few times. Watched the "Little Bad" in their black van watching Buffy from the road with binoculars and that's pretty much it.

Sarah had her hair in pigtails like the "Triangle" ep and she was wearing jeans and a greyish blue top with no sleeves. She had a hard hat on. She looked adorable carrying the girder.

I was constantly worried that she was being upset by my presence and the other two or three people who were there so I tried to stay pretty far away and didn't make eye contact. Talked to crew and security though.

There was an incident where some British guy with a paparazzi style camera drove by a few times and then tried to peep into Sarah's trailer. Cops had to get rid of him and everything.

All I can say is, no wonder Sarah is worried about who comes around the set. What a freak that guy was!

I stayed for a while after she left and talked to the security guys and there was one guy who said that the episode where the demons and vampires try to take over Sunnydale and set everything on fire and stuff is called "Flooded". Don't know how good that info is, but there ya go anyway.

Episode 6 info from Ain't It Cool News

Dawn Summers!
As widely suspected, the Halloween "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (featuring Dawn's rampant misbehavior) has been bumped – by "Buffy's" slightly earlier, Oct. 2 premiere – from episode 6.5 to episode 6.6. The big news is:

a) we'll find out during this installment that Dawn will, in at least one interesting way, follow closely in her sister's footsteps (nothing to do with superpowers)

b) we finally seem to get some clues this episode with regard to what Dawny was up to with Anya's earrings late last season.

From Autumn at the Kitten board:

Episode 6 is being directed by David Soloman and starts shooting on 9/14.

Dawn gets her first kiss from a "hottie with edge" (as described by the casting breakdown) named Justin who is a high school senior.

From Wanda's Tip Sheet at E! Online

Robo Buffy to the Rescue! In case you still don't know, Buffy isn't really dead. The show's moving to UPN and Sarah Michelle will be there--in one form or another--for the entire season. In the premiere, we discover that the Scooby gang has rejuiced the Buffy Bot so she can fill in while the real Slayer is six feet under. When the season's first baddie, a motorcycle-riding Freddy Kruger, short-circuits the plan, Willow must conjure up the real deal. Although we see less of Giles this season (Anthony Stewart Head is going back across the pond), we see plenty of him--and the rest of the Scoobies--singing, as the sixth episode is an all-musical extravaganza. "Five, six, seven, eight...stab, stab, jazz hands!"

Undead Love: You didn't think I'd forget to mention TV's greatest unrequited crush, did you? Rumors are starting to leak from the set that Buffy and Spike will get more than enough lip action this season--and I'm not talkin' fangs and necks--to make fans forget all about what's-his-name on that other network. Still, my advice is to believe the tonsil-hockey rumor when you see it. Creator Joss Whedon can be a tricky, spoiler-squashing dude.

From Ain't It Cool News

"We've just learned that rumors of a major "Buffy" character dying this season are only too true. This character will likely die at the hands of a demon and, unlike Buffy, will not undergo any kind of successful resurrection. The character is not Jonathan and it's not Giles. The character is one Herc will miss an awful lot (admittedly, this narrows it down very little). This character's death will precipitate horrendous consequences for the Slayer Circle."
