Ninja Storm DVD Release
Amazon.com has a new Power Rangers DVD coming out entitled 'Prelude To A Storm' from the first episode of NS of the same name. Since the past VHS release have included several episodes, the DVD here will probably have a few more shows on it. More as it comes.
Ninja Storm Nameplay
Since the newest of the Power Rangers franchises is an attempt to rejuvinate the show, it has been mentioned in several newspapers. Of these, two that have come up on Power Ranger newsboards and sites. You can read the Boston Globe and New York Times arcticles here.
This next part is strictly my opinion. I think in an effort to "revamp" the show, they have dumbed it down. There was dissension among the ranks, maybe even moreso in past series. Disney Channel's executive VP says this: "What we're trying to do is put the series creatively on the highest plane we can." How creative is it to have the Rangers say "dude" every five words. In another instance, the Boston Globe arcticle says that in the past few years the show has ditched stories in favor of action packed fights.... and how has this been elleviated in Ninja Storm? Stories were first place in shows like Time Force. This is not to say I don't like Ninja Storm; its a fair show on its own merrit. But I don't think it deserves to be billed as the best thing since sliced bread, and definitly not as superior to the past seven or eight seasons of Power Rangers.
Real Music in Ninja Storm
This isn't really news but I felt it is worth mentioning. In episode four, 'Looming Thunder', during a scene ar the Storm Chargers store where the Rangers meet Blake and Hunter a Relient K song was playing in the background. Relient K is a Christian rock band known for their outrageous lyrics and spiritual themes. The song playing is called 'Pressing On' from their album 'The Anatomy of the Tongue and Cheek'. This is somewhat significant as in the past Power Rangers has not used that much music outside the groups that do music just for the show (Mighty Raw, Super Power). Keep watching Ninja Storm to see if any more "real" music pops up.
Power Rangers at Toy Fair 2003
At Toy Fair, one of the biggest toy shows in the US, Bandai has recently unveiled their Power Rangers Ninja Storm Fall line. Figures.com has pictures, so check them out.
Official Power Rangers Auctions
ABC has its official auction site tied with ebay, and inside is a special Power Rangers section. There are tons of monster suits, even from the first season, to Red Rangers, even to an autographed script.
After clicking on the script, we are treated to the episode number four title, 'Looming Thunder', and some tiny details of information. The episode is directed by a Charlie Haskell and suprisingly enough Jackie Merchand, PR story editor alongside Judd Lynn from PRIS-PRTF. This good addition to the writing staff should definitly increase quality. Also by reading the script, a character named Kelly is written in as an employee at the Ranger's extreme sports store. Check out the auctions, they're worth the look.
Previews of 'Prelude To A Storm' Popping Up
The confirmed name of Ninja Storm's first episode is 'Prelude to a Storm', and the PR Infobase has a review. Be warned that there are spoilers, but the episode looks promising.
In other news, some have said that K-Mart will be having a preview of Ninja Storm February 8 at 1:00 in the electronics section. Although I can't confirm this, it is speculated that 'Prelude to a Storm' will be featured.
Press Release for Ninja Storm on Ebay
Here is an example of those rare occasions where we find something of notable interest other than toys on Ebay. In the past, such things as a movie suit of the White Ranger and Goldar, a mutilated Lord Zedd costume, and the head to the Shogun Megazord. This time a press release has been found that reveals some secrets of Ninja Storm, namely the identities of the two Thunder Rangers (which we already knew the names of, but not pics). In another picture, three villans are shown. Two of them wear the same costumes as the females from Hurricanger, but the third is most likely the main bad guy. We can't see his face, but from what is visible, he is somewhat reminiscient of Ransik with a mutilated face. This guy is most likely "Lothor" who was mentioned a while back as the main villain. Check it out here.
New Promos Running on ABC Family
ABC Family has been actively promoting February's Ninja Storm with new commmercials. Last week, we saw the first glimpse of VIllage Roadshow's film with some scenes of each Ranger and their morph sequence. This week, a new commercial showing new footage of all three Rangers was showing. Keep a look out for these top of the line commercials much better than the Fox Kids Wild Force promos.
