Mother and Father - Bea and Jay Hunnicutt (this is where BJ’s name reportedly comes from, although he likes to tell people it stands for “whatever you want it to!”)
BJ comes from Mill Valley, California, and was drafted to Korea to replace Trapper John. He was met at the airport at Kimpo by Radar and Hawkeye, who had come to try and see Trapper before he left. BJ got his first taste of war injuries on the way back to the 4077th when he and Hawkeye stopped to hep some soldiers who had been attacked. BJ found the experience became sadly familiar during his time at the 4077th, but he was helped through the experience by Hawkeye, who became his best friend. BJ was at the 4077th for 2 years, missing the first two years of his daughter’s life, something he was always very upset about. Although devoted to his wife and child, BJ had a one night stand with a nurse friend of his who had received a “Dear Jane” letter, something he bitterly regretted afterwards, but he didn’t allow it to ruin his marriage.
During the final days of the war, BJ received his orders to go home, however they were rescinded and BJ was forced to return to the 4077th just before the war ended. He was in theatre with everyone else as the war guns finally ceased, and able to say a proper goodbye to his best friend, Hawkeye, as well as the rest of the 4077th gang, and witness Klinger’s wedding.
