Last night I had the extreme pleasure of seeing James Marsters perform at 14 Below. I had driven down 6 ½ hours from Sacramento just to see him. The trip was actually not that bad, despite the fact that 100 miles into it, my “Service Engine” light lit up on my dashboard. Needless to say, after some mild panic, I continued the journey. I still have no idea what’s wrong with my stupid car, but hey, it ran fine for the 800 mile round trip, so I guess I got lucky. The drive was long, but well worth it in the end.

We got to the club around 7:00pm. There was already a line outside, but I thought we were doing pretty good. It seemed like we waited forever, but finally we were let inside to the bar area. Let me tell you, it was small and stuffy. And being claustrophobic, I was starting to get a little antsy. I figured it would get better once we were in the main room. Well, the curtain opened and we were ushered into another tiny room with a little stage. I swear it looked liked someone’s living room!

Needless to say, I fought back my claustrophobic tendencies and crammed myself into the crowd in front of the stage. I had a pretty good viewpoint and was excited about that. Then there was more endless waiting for James to come out. I got to know my neighbors pretty well considering we were packed in like sardines.

Finally James took the stage and I admit I was mesmerized and star struck. He announced that he was going to sing his song from the Musical episode and everyone was really excited, myself included. It felt like we were getting a sneak peek of something really cool. He didn’t disappoint. The song was really good and I thought he had a really nice voice.

Most of all, he seemed to be having a wonderful time. Frankly, I didn’t care if he stood up on the stage all night telling really bad knock-knock jokes. I just wanted to SEE him!! But the man can sing. I really enjoyed his voice. I’m terrible with song titles and I was so flustered just seeing him, that I can’t even remember what he sang.

He also announced that he had a girlfriend and was very much in love. I thought it was really sweet of him to do that. He said he knew we all didn’t pay to see him just so he could announce he had a girlfriend. I swear, I could hear the hearts breaking. Mine a little too, which is ridiculous since I’m married and wouldn’t have had a chance in the world to be with him anyway…So I guess we just get over it. He seemed genuinely happy which made me happy for him. He even wrote her a song, which sounded really nice.

Once his performance was over, we went to the car for a minute and when we came back he was outside and completely surrounded. I only knew it was him because of the bright blonde hair shining in the middle of the crowd. We made our way over to him, and I waited, and waited and waited to get an autograph and picture.

Finally, I was standing right in front of him. And let me just say, he is SO INCREDIBLY GORGEOUS! Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, he was right in front of me. My heart was beating fast, my hands were sweating and then….HE HAD TO LEAVE!!!! Ahhhh! I was so sad and disappointed. So alas, no autograph or picture for me. Ah, well. There’s always next time, I guess.

So I trudged off to my car excited and yet slightly disappointed that I wasn’t able to actually speak to him. I must say though, I used to be totally enamored of Spike. Now I’m pretty smitten with James as well. He is totally sweet, funny, loves his fans and is just an all around great guy. And did I mention COMPLETELY GORGEOUS? Yeah, I guess I did. Sorry, just can’t stop gushing about him.

Anyway, I will just say that whoever his girlfriend is, she’s a very lucky gal. I can’t wait till the next time he has an appearance near me. I will SO be there and next time, hopefully I’ll get to tell him how cool I think he is to his face. You don’t think he’s heard it all before, do you?
