Macster - The Missing Links

Mouse Gossip

In the grand ballroom of Wendell's palace, lords, courtiers, livery, maids, retainers, arriving dignitaries, and waiters darted about in a flurry of activity. Some were putting up last minute decorations and cleaning the statuary with precise attention to each mote of dust. Some were rolling out the red carpets, while some were laying out cutlery, putting the finishing touches on ice sculptures for the banquet tables, lighting the chandeliers, and serving cocktails to the guests as they arrived.

Along the marble baseboard of one wall, from a hole chewed through the wood, three mice watched avidly, beady eyes wide at all the spectacle and grandeur.

"We're so lucky!" one sighed happily. "A coronation only comes along once every two thousand, seven hundred, and eighty-five mouse generations."

"I don't think there's going to be a coronation," another snorted. "I saw Prince Wendell lying under his bed. He looked barking mad."

"That can't be right," the third said, her voice worried. "He's probably just anxious about serving the right kind of cheese."

"They say that Cinderella's going to be here," the second mused.

"No!" the third gasped. "She must be two hundred years old!"

But he was insistent. "I heard she doesn't want to show her face because she doesn't want to spoil the memory of her beauty."

"I thought as much," the third said sadly.

Then the first backed rapidly away from the hole. "Look! Mousetraps! Make yourselves scarce!"

All of the mice scattered. But they all were determined to find another place from which to watch. They weren't going to miss this coronation for anything.
