Daydreams
by Danii

Wolf was in a very strange place. A very strange place. It seemed to change constantly, and was never very firm. First he'd see a meadow, and smell flowers and hay, then it would switch to large castles like the ones he ahd seen in Virginia's kingdom, with lots of lights and fast moving things. And the sounds and smells were all messed up too. Everything smelt like chocolate. He was very confused.

"You're new, aren't you?" said a blonde man whom Wolf hadn't even noticed, "All the new ones have that look on their face..."

"Who are you?" Wolf asked, glad to have someone to question, "And where am I? Where's Virginia?"

"You are in the most bizarre place in all the multiverse. It's a female fanfiction writer's mind..."

"What?" Wolf asked, completely lost as to what that last statement had meant.

"The mind of a writer. She draws her inpiration from characters on what is called a television, and on this television, she can see the events of other dimensions. Then, a part of us, the characters, ends up here, in this place..."

The blonde man seemed very knowledgable. Wolf wondered how long he'd been there. So he asked.

"Me? I've been here the good part of five years!" said the blonde man, "By the way, name's Nick Knight, homicide policeman, and one of the two resident vampires here."

Nick held out his hand for a shake, which Wolf took and shook nervously. "Vampire?"

"Yup" answered Nick. He then flashed his fangs, and allowed his eyes to glow. "The other one's over there, the dark, sloped forehead fellow...His name is Angel. He's been here for about two years."

Nick saw that Wolf was getting highly confused, so he changed the subject. "So, what exactly are you and where did you come from?"

"My name is Wolf," replied Wolf, "And I'm a half-wolf from the Second Kingdom." Wolf, just as Nick had, flashed his fangs and eyes. "I'm supposed to be in the middle of a creamy courtship with the girl of my dreams, Virginia, in the Fourth Kingdom right now!"

"Oh, don't worry..." Nick said, putting his hand on Wolf's shoulder, "A part of you is there. If you concentrate, you can see it here..."

Wolf did as Nick had said, and he did see it. He saw Virginia and himself, who, he observed from the outside, looked pretty spiffy. He was obviously being very suave, because Virginia was laughing and smiling at him.

"Well, how long am I going to be here, you think?" Wolf asked finally, after making sure everything was going okay in the Fourth Kingdom.

"Well, as I said, I've been here for five years. It depends on the author's fanaticism. But most who come here for more than ten minutes end up here. Here, let me introduce you to the guys..."

Nick then gently guided the newbie over to where the majority of the men were lounging.

"Wolf, this is Benton." A man in a red uniform tipped his strange hat. "Duncan" A man with a ponytail nodded in salute. "Tommy..." A younger boy waved at him, "Doyle..." A dark haired thin young man shouted a delicately accented how-do-you-do. "Spike..." a bottle-blonde young man sneered at him. "And I already told you about Angel," The dark-suited man whom Nick had pointed out gave a small smile and a wave.

"Why is everyone here a guy?" Wolf asked at last.

"I told you," Nick said gently, "This is a FEMALE fanfiction writer's mind..."

"Oh."

"Yes," said the red-suited man, "she has a bit of a one-track mind, but she's better to us than a lot of the others."

Just as the red-suited man finished his sentence, the one whom they refered to as Angel suddenly disappeared. No one seemed to mind.

"What happened!?" Wolf exclaimed, looking at the spot where the depressed young man had stood.

"Oh," said Nick with a laugh, "He's just been picked to have a fanfic, which is a story about him. He'll return in a while. She doesn't write very long things often..."

Wolf nodded nervously, then laughed along with Nick.

"Here, let's get to know one another..."

"Wolf? Wolf? Earth calling Wolf!" cried Virginia, tapping him lightly on the head. They had just finished with the entrees, and he'd zoned out on her.

"What!" Wolf said suddenly.

"You zoned for a bit, Wolf." Virginia said, smiling. "What were you thinking about so hard?"

Wolf couldn't tell her about that strange dream. She'd think him more insane than ever. She'd never understand about Nick, and Benton, and Tommy. So he lied.

"I was thinking about what a wonderful evening it has been with you..." Wolf said.

"I agree. It has been so wonderful! I feel like I could fly!"

Wolf thought back to some of the stories the men in that strange place had told him, of the things that had happened to them in the girl's stories and in their actual lives. They'd said that they usually got together with the ones they loved in those stories, even if it didn't happen for real for them. He smiled for a moment. He hoped he was called back soon...

"Maybe you will, Virginia..." he said quietly, smiling and holding her hands lovingly. "Just maybe you will..."
