Fever
by Philip Tolewyn

Blood boils in my cold heart
Fear escapes in beaded sweat
Beneath my racing feet
The ground becomes a blur

The hunt begins like a thunder bolt
Decisive, deadly and quick
No longer am I really here
Far past the shell of old

I am the beast of lore
The monster of my soul torment
Cursed by my heritage
I crumble in its ancient might

Wind howls at me as I race
Faster through the darkness
I smell the fear of my prey
The promise of death I bring

Nothing escapes a wolf
All soon meet their end
And as I tear the prey apart
I weep for my blackened soul
