Beneath the Silvery Moon
by Skyla Shae

Beneath the secluded underbrush,
Beneath the silvery moon,
Beneath a blanket of bright stars
A silver wolf sang his tune

He turned his face up toward the sky
He turned his face up to the moon
With upturned face he watched the stars
And sang his haunting tune

The light reflected off the rock
From the silvery moon,
And from the glowing lights of stars
The wolf sang his tune.

He heard a noise behind him
Beneath the silvery moon
He saw the flash of red
But did not cease his tune

He smelt the rank tobacco
Beneath the light of the moon
He saw the swarthy face
But did not cease his tune.

He watched with flashing eyes
Beneath the silvery moon
He heard the musket loading
But did not cease his tune.

He heard the nasty insult
Not so harsh beneath the moon
He saw the hate in different eyes
But did not cease his tune.

He knew the prejudice and fear
Beneath the silvery moon
He knew misunderstanding
And did not cease his tune.

The man primed his musket
Beneath the silvery moon
He pointed it right at the wolf
Who did not cease his tune.

He fired his deadly musket
Beneath the silvery moon
And shattered the breast of the wolf
Who did not cease his tune.
