Joselle - The Great Grey Wolf and Little Ruby Riding Hood

Chapter Three

Before Silas could touch her, she swiftly moved, resulting in Silas falling flat on his face in the dirt. The girl, now laughing, replied, “You fall for it every time.” She laughed out loud. “Ever since you could walk you’ve fallen for it!” The girl calmed down but, still smiling, continued, “Silas, where were you, anyways? The family’s worried.” Silas replied, “The castle of Red Riding Hood...”

The smile vanished from the girl’s face. “What? No! That can’t happen! Unless... oh no! You weren’t caught, were you?” The girl was now nervously pacing back and forth.

“No- I was invited into their home and taken care of, Rose.” Rose’s eyes got wide. Silas continued, “I-- saved princess Ruby’s life... I think I love her...”

There was an awkward pause.

“You can’t let anyone know Silas,” declared Rose.

“I know,” said Silas.

“Besides, when I went into town they were posting flyers declaring her marriage to Prince Piper.”

“I know Rose. But she doesn’t love him. The marriage was arranged without her knowing...”

Rose looked even more upset. “Come on. Better let Mama and Papa know where you went.” Rose turned and Silas followed.

As Silas stepped into the camp, a short round woman with dark brown, graying hair hurried up to him and hugged him. “Oh my Baby... Silas where have you been? We’ve been worried sick!”

“Hello, Mother... I~ You better get Papa and sit down...”

The woman turned and called for someone. A man with black hair with bits of gray in it came out of the woods, with a gray tail hanging out of the back of his trousers. “So, Silas, you wanted to tell me something?” the man said politely.

“Yes, Papa... I was at the castle of Red Riding Hood...”

The woman gasped as the man looked a bit bothered by the news. “Silas, why were you at the castle? Were you caught?” he asked

“Well Papa... I s-saved Princess - gulp - Ruby...” replied Silas.

Papa stood up. “WHAT!!! HOW - no, WHY would you save a Riding Hood!!!” Silas could almost feel heat coming from his red face. “HER MOTHER IS THE REASON WHY MY FATHER IS NOW DEAD!!!!!!!!!”

Silas stood up. He had to say something quick. “Because I wanted to earn the family's trust, which I did!!! And I, with your permission, Cassin, I will kill them all at once...” No one hardly ever said 'Cassin' - it was his first name - the children just called him Papa, when only his mate would use his first name. But for some reason Cassin didn’t mind.

“So...” Cassin began to smile, “You received their trust? And I suppose they aren’t aware of what you are...” Silas nodded, letting Cassin know his suspicions were true. “Then all we need is the time and place...” Cassin’s smile broke into an evil grin.

Later on Silas went back to camp and laid down on some blankets for a bed, when he remembered the piece of paper Ruby had given him. He took it out of his pocket and read:

Dear Silas,

I hope you come back again. My seventeenth birthday is June 2. I will hope you be there. All the important royal families should be there.
If you have any trouble with the guards I have written a special permission form with my signature:

Hello,
This is Mr. Silas Huntington. He is given permission from the royal family to attend Princess Ruby’s Birthday Banquet.
If you have any problems see King Riding - Hood.
Sincerely, Princess Ruby M. Riding - Hood.

Silas just laid there. He decided to tell his father about the royal invitation to the banquet in the morning.
