Susana - Sins of the Mothers
Chapter 17 - Wolves in the City - Revisited(7 months later)
Virginia waddled down the crowded aisle of the hospital cafeteria. Wolf walked proudly behind his 'succulent cutie' as they joined Tony and the children and their meal in progress. "If I get any bigger I'll need a shoehorn to sit down," Virginia muttered.
"Is everything okay?" Tony asked worriedly.
Wolf grinned. "Yup, doc says the cubs are dong fine, and so is their mummy."
Viginia rubbed her swollen belly and sighed, "Two more weeks - I hope I can last that long."
Wolfie and Lambchop argued over the last of the fries as Wolf went to the counter to get food for Virginia and himself.
Wolfie poured a fifth packet of ketchup on his remaining fry. Lambchop squeezed next to her mother and smiled her dazzling long-toothed smile up at her. "Mummy can we stop for ice-cream on the way home?" Virginia laughed at the girl's wolfie charm and agreed.
Awhile later, the family was walking towards the hospital exit as Dr. Shepherd turned the corner. "I know you," he sputtered. "You're the little girl who couldn't grow." He pointed to Victoria and began to shout "Wolves! Those children are wolves!!" Passersby stared at the well-dressed family and the hysterical, screaming doctor. A young intern stood behind the doctor, making a gesture of tipping a bottle to his lips while cocking his eyebrow toward the physician. The crowd tittered.
The family stepped out into the warm night and dreamed of babies and ice-cream and many more happy times to come. Virginia leaned over to her Wolf and whispered, "This is happy ever after."
