Susana - Sins of the Mothers
Chapter 14 - Paying the PiperAndromeda stomped angrily through the snow. Her father had commanded this meeting. Her heart filled with trepidation. Perhaps he regretted his harsh treatment of her and wanted her back in the pack. Perhaps, but she doubted it. The scent on the wind was anger and vengeance. Her hackles rose but she really did not care.
She had sold her soul for nothing. Seeing the despair of Wolf and his mate had left her feeling small and pathetic. She would never know what they had. She had fueled her hatred for so long she had forgotten the reasons she had begun this war. As she pondered these questions the answer she came to was: she began this because she was in love with Wolf.
Love? Bitterly she realized what she had felt was far from love. The look the doomed female gave her mate...that had been love. As she circled the clearing, she realized she had never known what love was. She knew she never would. Her actions had truly hurt her, even more than the family she had tortured.
Her father stood before her now. In his human form, he was a tall man with a grey beard and hard blue eyes. "So you dare call yourself my daughter? You have killed a cub! You used magic to sicken her and torment a family. You forget who you are. We are wolves. We protect our young. We even protect human young. You have learned this since birth. That child was part wolf which gave you influence over her. Her trust for you was instinctive and natural. I never thought you capable of such a thing. You have shamed your heritage and your clan. The penalty is death. Have you any defense for your actions?"
Andromeda lowered her head in shame and shook it slowly. She said nothing as the pack descended upon her.
Miles away in the hunting lodge, Virginia woke in the dead of the cold night. She smiled as she wordlessly pulled on her heaviest boots and followed a voice only she could hear into the snowy night.
In a torch-lit snow cave beneath Snow White Falls, a stray breeze blew a long red hair across a glowing icy tomb. Beneath the bluish glaze lay the silent figure of a beautiful white-haired child who held the hand of the great queen Snow White.
