Nigel

An Affair To Remember.

Fran Fine descended the staircase of Maxwell Sheffield's home wearing her short black dress with the rhinestone netting. Nigel Sheffield gasped when he saw her. "Fran luv, you look stunning!" he said at the sight of her. Nigel had come to New York for a surprise visit to his brother Maxwell. Unfortunately Max was busy putting the final touches on his new show and had little time for him. Luckily Miss Fine had agreed to squire Nigel about New York.

The situation did not displease Nigel at all. He had always been quite attracted to Maxwell's nanny. Well, he had only met her one other time, when she came to Paris with Max. But on that trip, he had a hard time keeping his eyes off of her. He had repeatedly asked Max if they had a relationship and his brother had always vehemently denied it. The memory of that denial was starting to thrill Nigel. He was really looking forward to escorting Fran tonight.

"Thank you Nigel." Fran had been depressed lately that Mr. Sheffield just really didn't seem to be interested to be anything but friends. On that flight from Paris two months ago he had kissed her and told her he loved her when he thought the plane was going to crash. He took it back the next day, and explained that he just wanted to be friends. She had figured that she would give him some time and he would eventually come around. He hadn't.

To top it off, lately Max hadn't even been around at all. He had spent all his time at the theatre desperately trying to get his new play finished. Fran was feeling neglected and lonely. The last thing she wanted was to go out and pretend to have a good time with another Sheffield man. But Max had put her in a position where she couldn't say no.

"Fran, luv. What's happened to you?" Nigel said worriedly. He noticed the change in the happy woman he had met in Paris. Has my brother done something to her? he wondered. She had been beautiful, effervescent and fun. Now she just seemed morose and depressed.

"I'm sorry Nigel. I'm not going to be very good company this evening," Fran said softly letting him help her on with her coat.

"We'll see about that luv," he said escorting her out the front door. Nigel had no idea what extinguished the fire in this lovely creature, but he knew that he was just the man to reignite it.

Max's butler Niles had witnessed Nigel's reaction when he first saw Fran in that short dress. He knew Nigel and from the look on his face, he was terrified that Max's brother had every intention of making Fran his next conquest. Niles thoughts turned to his boss. Is he bloody insane letting Nigel of all people take Miss Fine out? Niles shook his head and went to the kitchen.

Nigel and Fran have danced every dance at The 70's Club, a popular retro disco in midtown Manhattan that Nigel frequented whenever he visited New York. Fran can't believe what a wonderful time she is having. She hasn't missed Mr. Sheffield at all. "Fran I hope you're not getting bored with me telling you how incredibly smashing you look this evening," Nigel said looking deeply into her eyes. He took her hand and kissed it.

"Nope, I'm still digging it," she said happily. She took a sip of her vodka tonic. I can't believe how different you are from your brother. You two are exact opposites." Fran shook her head in wonderment. She studies Nigel closely for the first time, analyzing the two brothers immense differences. He's charming, funny and damn handsome...not to mention rich. Why can't I be in love with him instead of his stuff shirt brother? She thought ruefully. Fran remembered how she had been a little attracted to Nigel when they first met in Paris. They had even flirted briefly. Of course with Maxwell in the picture, nothing came of it.

Nigel was quite pleased with himself. He knew he would be able to get her out of her depression. He had a natural way with the ladies. Nigel as a young man was a bit of a rakish rogue. Actually he still was, given the opportunity. He never had trouble getting women into his bed. Nigel absolutely loved women. He had always tried to be up front with his conquests and even after the relationship ended, he had stayed friends with the ladies he had bedded. His incorrigible charm and manner captivated the women he seduced. Most had realized up front that he was a man who would never be tamed or settle down. He had always showed them such a good time that they were hesitant to let him out of their lives permanently after the short relationship ended.

Nigel, Maxwell and their sister Jocelyn grew up in a home with very little outward love and affection displayed by their cold parents towards them. Actually, if it hadn't been for their butler, Niles Sr., they wouldn't know what real love was. The Sheffield children were practically raised by him while their selfish parents globetrotted the world.

Niles Sr. was a good and honorable man and he handed these fine traits down to his three young charges. Because of him, Maxwell and Nigel absorbed no traits of their self-centered parents. Their sister Jocelyn was the most self-absorbed of the three, but even she wasn't nearly as bad as their parents.

Lately Nigel had been feeling restless. He had purchased his club on a whim. His mother had ordered Maxwell to fly to France to talk him out of it two months ago. Maxwell had initially agreed with her until he witnessed for himself what a wonderful investment it was. Nigel had finally grown up. His success had caused Max to be a little jealous of his brother. Buying his nightclub and successfully running it was grand, but Nigel was feeling that something was missing in his life. It was time to settle down. Fran was the catalyst that made him realize it.

Nigel gazed into Fran's eyes. He was delighted that she was once again the happy, breathtaking creature he had a crush on in Paris. Her cheeks were flush with excitement, which made her look even more beautiful. Her looks aside, she made Nigel laugh out loud. He adored her sense of humor and outrageous personality. He had never met any woman like her. Most of the ladies he dated were beautiful, British and boring. Until this very night, he didn't even know he was attracted to a woman with a sense of humor. Simply put, Nigel Sheffield was falling in love. He had never really been in love before.

Nigel was lost in thoughts of her still gazing into her eyes. Fran was chattering on about one of her ridiculous relatives. "Nigel, I asked you a question. Where's your mind?" Fran said playfully slapping his chest.

"You don't want to know," he said seductively. God she's just lovely. To his chagrin he could feel himself get hard at the sight of her. "Um, what did you ask me?" He looked at her and was praying that she didn't notice his sudden arousal.

"I asked if you wanted to dance! I love this song!" she said getting out of her chair. "We haven't slow danced all evening." Nigel jumped up and led her to the dance floor willingly. Don't Throw It All Away was emanating from the speakers. Nigel took Fran into his arms and held her close. Not too close though, he didn't want to scare the hell out of her.

"Nigel, for some reason it just feels so right dancing to this song with you." Fran murmured, looking up at him. Fran was surprised that she is suddenly experiencing tender feelings towards Nigel. She had been deprived of love and affection from a man for so long now, that the attention Max's brother was showering on her was almost overwhelming her. She was having a marvelous time.

Nigel's arousal had thankfully disappeared. He finally felt comfortable drawing Fran closer to him. After a few more dances, Nigel knew he had to take Fran home. He was afraid of his sudden realization. His strong feelings towards her have confused and, truth be told, scared him to death. He needed time alone to think. He was grateful that he hadn't stayed in his brother's home and had his own suite at the Waldorf-Astoria.

"Fran darling, I'm afraid that I'm suffering from jet lag. Would you mind if I escorted you home? I am just dead on my feet," he lied. He could have danced with her in his arms all night.

"Of course not Nigel. I'm a little tired too." She was also a little anxious to get to her bed and sort through her surprisingly tender feelings towards him. Fran was surprised that she wasn't feeling guilty about her newfound crush. After all, she was supposed to be in love with Maxwell Sheffield.

Nigel led her off the dance floor and motioned to the waitress to bring him the bill. After paying and adding a generous tip, he guided Fran out the door and into the waiting limo. The car pulled up to the Sheffield mansion. Nigel got out and led Fran to the front door. He gave her a soft kiss, which sent tingles throughout his body. They said goodnight and he got back into the limo to his hotel.

By the time he changed into his bedclothes, had a drink and cigarette he was beyond conflicted. He sat in front of the huge picture window looking at the magnificent New York skyline without really seeing it. Nigel had made a decision. He crushed out his cigarette, swore softly under his breath and got into the king size bed ready to try to sleep.

Meanwhile, Fran had decided she needed a hot bath. She was also confused and slightly terrified by her newfound feelings. She was definitely attracted to Nigel. This realization alone horrified her. She had the last few months been absolutely positive that she was in love with Maxwell Sheffield. How could she have fallen for his brother so easily? She was thoroughly confused. After twenty minutes she decided she couldn't keep her eyes open any longer.

***********

Max wasn't at breakfast. He was at the theatre putting the final touches on his show. Fran hadn't awakened until almost lunchtime herself. "Niles I really need a cup of coffee," Fran groaned as she walked into the kitchen. "I think I'm a little hung over." She sat at the kitchen table putting her head in her hands. Fran wasn't a big drinker and the four cocktails she had last night had a dubious effect on her this morning.

Niles looked at her under raised eyebrows. "You got in awfully late last night," he said suspiciously. Niles was absolutely terrified. He couldn't sleep last night knowing that she was out with Nigel. He was pretty sure that Miss Fine hadn't had relations with him, but knowing Max's brother, he also knew that is was just a matter of time. Mr. Sheffield is so bloody stupid, he thought angrily. Niles had recently figured out what 'The Thing' was and was furious at the incredible idiocy of his boss. If Mr. Sheffield hadn't been so busy lately, Niles would have really laid into him.

"Oh, Niles. You won't believe it, but I think I have a slight crush of Nigel! And I really think he feels the same." She took a sip of the coffee. Fran decided that she really needed to confide in someone. She swore him to secrecy. "You have to swear not to tell anyone or I'll never trust you again."

He nodded his head solemnly. "I swear." Fran told Niles of her surprisingly tender feelings for Nigel, and how she was just wasting her youth waiting around for their boss. "He may never come around, Niles. Then where would I be?" she said a little sadly. "Nigel is a wonderful catch, and we have so much fun together." Niles heart sank at her confession. Niles loved his boss like a brother. He was furious with him for pussyfooting around in regards to his relationship with Miss Fine. Niles only goal the last four years had been to get them together. It had practically consumed him. Now he was very afraid that it was unraveling before his eyes. He also knew that he was powerless to stop it.

There was a soft knock on the back door. Niles shuddered. He instinctively knew exactly who it was, and he was right.

Fran opened it, and to Niles horror he witnessed Nigel take Miss Fine in his arms and twirl her around the kitchen. "I've missed you luv!" he exclaimed. He set her down and presented her with a dozen yellow roses.

"Oh, Nigel! They're gorgeous!"

"They're nothing. What do you want? How about a diamond?" He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He opened it so she could see what was inside. Her gasp thrilled him.

"Nigel!" Fran pressed her hand to her chest. "It's spectacular!" She surreptitiously tossed the roses to Niles. Without realizing it she presented her left hand to him and let him slide on the seven-carat princess cut diamond solitaire. Niles caught the flowers with ease. His mouth dropped open and his heart started racing when he spotted the expensive ring. He couldn't suppress an involuntary gasp. Fran was breathless. She looked at Niles forgetting that he was there. He stared at her. "What? Are you caught in a butler trap? Gnaw your foot off and move on." She motioned for him to leave the room. Nigel couldn't help but chuckle at that. He just loved her sense of humor.

Niles retreated hesitantly up the back staircase. Damn. Now what the hell do I do? Nigel is going to offer her everything she's ever wanted, he thought sadly. He had sworn that he wouldn't tell, so he couldn't even warn Mr. Sheffield.

Fran turned to Nigel. She was shivering slightly as the extent of the situation hit her. "Nigel, I can't accept this," she said looking at the beautiful ring. "It just too soon."

Nigel took her in his arms and kissed her. She was shocked to feel her knees buckle. The only one who had ever caused that before was Maxwell Sheffield. She was a little dizzy at the feeling of his soft lips on hers.

"Please think about it, darling. I'm leaving for the ship in an hour. It sails at midnight." He looked deeply in her eyes. His eyes were at half-mast. Nigel was slightly overcome by the emotion of his first marriage proposal. He was a little surprised that he had absolutely no reservations about his impulsive decision. Nigel prayed that she would accept. He kissed her again and she melted in his arms. "I'm going to my hotel to pack," he said softly walking out the back door.

Fran's knees were weak and she was trembling slightly. She had to sit down at the kitchen table to catch her breath. She can't believe that a Sheffield wanted to marry her, even though it was the wrong Sheffield. She was trying to sort out her feelings. She knew that she loved Maxwell with all her heart. She had for months now. But she also knew that he absolutely didn't want a relationship. She suddenly realized what she had to do. "I'll give him one more chance," she whispered her heart pounding faster as she knew what her next move had to be.

Ironically, Max walked into the kitchen just as she made her decision. "Ah Miss Fine! There you are. I was just wondering, were you planning on seeing Nigel tonight?" He sat down at the table next to her. He looked at her tenderly. He was a little surprised that her had missed her lately. She looks strange. Max thinks uneasily. Her cheeks are flush, and is she trembling?

"Well, I was thinking about it, but if you don't want me to, if you think my place is to be here with you and the kids, just say the word," she said hopefully. Maybe he was jealous of Nigel. That would be a good sign for us.

"Oh by all means go. You two will have a wonderful time together! Who knows when I'll finish up in the office. Please don't sit around waiting for me. The good thing is I'll be completely done with this work by the end of the day." He stood up. Max had no idea the devastation his last statement had caused. He was completely oblivious to the enormity of the situation.

Fran swallowed and stood up. It was now or never, the moment of truth. She faced him. Suddenly to his surprise she moved her body to his, wrapped her arms around his neck and covered his mouth with hers.

Max was flabbergasted. The feeling of her warm mouth on his was exhilarating and he kissed her back without thinking about it. His heart started pounding and he was becoming slightly aroused as her lower body pressed to his. Suddenly that old unreasonable fear gripped him, he remembered. "Miss Fine," he gasped breaking their embrace. "I thought you understood about us." He gently held her at arms length. Wow did that feel wonderful, he thought now very confused. The look she gave him scared him for some reason.

"I'm sorry Mr. Sheffield. I don't know what came over me. Trust me, it will never happen again," she said sadly as she walked out of the kitchen. Well that clinches it. It's over. Fran wasn't even embarrassed at his rebuff. She was simply devastated knowing once and for all that it was over between them. What a waste. We would have been so good together.

A feeling of dread suddenly surged through Max. "What just happened here? Something's not right. Why do I feel like I've just failed a test?" he whispered to himself. A definite chill ran through him as he walked to his office to finally wrap up his work. He sat at his desk but couldn't get any work done. He was terrified at the memory of what just happened in the kitchen. "Why did she all of sudden kiss me like that? She's never done anything like that before." He forced himself to think about it later and dug into his work.

"Well, he couldn't have made it more clear," Fran said to herself. "Now I know for sure that I'm just wasting my youth here. Fate has stepped in. If I am ever going to be part of this family, it will be as Nigel's wife. I could certainly do worse. So quit your damn crying, Fran," she ordered herself. She had decided to leave for the ship before dinner. Nigel had agreed to meet her early when she phoned him. "Oh darling you've made me so happy!" He had cried when she told him the good news.

Fran finished packing and sat down to write a letter to Mr. Sheffield. She decided it would be for the best. She knew she didn't possess the strength to tell him face-to-face. She also had a sinking feeling that it was the coward's way out, but she couldn't let him sweet-talk her to stay. Fran paused to think for a moment. She put the pen to the stationery and continued.

Dear Mr. Sheffield,

This is the hardest letter I've ever had to write. You see tonight I am leaving your home forever. I'm sorry I couldn't give you two-weeks notice. Your brother has asked me to marry him and sail tonight for Europe on the QEII. I have accepted.

Mr. Sheffield you must know how much I love...loved you. After that trip from Paris there was no doubt in my mind of my feelings for you. I thought you loved me too, and that you just needed more time. The last couple months you held me at arms length. It depressed me terribly. Then Nigel came along and lifted me right out of my depression. I gave you a second chance today, and again I was held at arms length. I finally believe you when you say you just want to be friends. Well it looks like we will be more than just friends. In a few days, we will be relatives.

I will call the children tomorrow from the ship. In the meantime tell them I love them and am very excited that I am going to be their new aunt.

This isn't how I dreamed of my future as a Sheffield. I'm sure I'll always have strong feelings for you, but I had to think of myself for once. I think Nigel is good for me and I'm sure in time I will fall in love with him, as I once loved you.

I'm sorry we didn't work out. I think we would have been very good together. But it wasn't meant to be. Goodbye, Mr. Sheffield.

Miss Fine

Fran folded the note and put it in an envelope. With a slightly trembling hand she wrote his name it. She tiptoed into his bedroom and set the note on his bed. She retrieved her bags and snuck through the living room. Niles had fallen asleep on the couch. He had suspected that Fran was going to do something crazy this evening and had planned to stop her. Unfortunately he had so little sleep last night worrying about them that he couldn't keep his eyes open.

Fran kissed the sleeping butler softly on the cheek and walked out the front door. The tears started to flow again by the time she reached the curb and hailed a cab.

After two hours of nonstop work, Max was finished. He let out a big sigh of relief and decided to find Miss Fine. His mind kept going back to that kiss in the kitchen. He felt very uneasy on how it ended and decided he wanted to talk to her about their relationship. He realized once again that he has missed her this last week. Now he was free as a bird to spend time with her.

Max climbed the front stairs and entered his bedroom. He noticed the small pink envelope setting on his bed. A sudden feeling of trepidation rushed through him. He knew instinctively that this was not good. He forced himself to open it. He unfolded the pink stationery and read her words. His heart started beating madly as he realized the extent of the situation. "Oh dear god! She's run off with my brother!" he cried. Max quickly reread it as he fought off the bile that was rising to his mouth.

Suddenly his knees went out. He collapsed on the bed in a total state of shock. He looked at the piece of paper in his hands without seeing it. Unconsciously he stuffed it into his breast pocket and stood shakily up. "NILES!" he bellowed.

Niles eyes flew open. Oh no, she's done it! He flew up the living room stairs to Max's room. The look of shock and betrayal in his boss' eyes horrified him. "Sir?"

"Niles! Pack my bags quickly!" Maxwell cried looking at his watch. "Miss Fine is gone! She's sailing tonight with Nigel for Europe!" Max ran to the bathroom. The nausea he had so valiantly fought took over. He got to the commode just in time.

Niles raced about the room. Fifteen minutes later he presented Max with a completely packed suitcase and his passport. Max grabbed them and ran down the stairs and out the door. He hailed a taxi. "New York Harbor. The Queen Elizabeth II. Please hurry." How the bloody hell could she do this to me? She knows how I feel about her, he thought glumly. How does she know you blithering idiot? You told her you loved her then took it back. He put herself into her place for the first time. Max is all of a sudden realizing how much that must have hurt her. He hadn't ever really analyzed the pain it must have caused her until now. He started to get terrified that she won't forgive him and leave Nigel.

The driver raced through the streets of Manhattan and in twenty minutes he pulled up to the pier. Max threw a hundred dollar bill at him and told him to keep the change as he grabbed his bag and raced to the check in. The shocked driver was very grateful for the eighty-dollar tip.

"I need to be on that ship!" A frazzled Maxwell told the young lady at the counter. He took out his Platinum Card and passport and handed them to her.

"Certainly sir. There is only one cabin left though, The President's Suite. I'm afraid it is eight thousand dollars."

"Perfect!"

She signaled the VIP valet. He scurried over to take Max's bag. "Please follow me sir," he said deferentially. "You just made it, the ship sails in twenty minutes!"

Max boarded the magnificent ship looking around constantly to see if he can spot them. The valet led him to his suite where the butler took over. Max tipped the valet before he left.

The butler took his bag. "My name is Roberto, welcome to the Queen Elizabeth II," he said cheerily as he began to unpack for him.

"Thank you. Um, Roberto, could you please tell me which suite my brother Nigel Sheffield is in?"

Certainly Mr. Sheffield. He is just down the hall in The Royal Suite." Roberto motioned down the corridor. Max breathed a small sigh of relief.

Roberto finished unpacking his bag and turned the bed down. "Will there be anything else, sir?"

"Yes, please have a bottle of Dom Perignon chilling by the fireplace. And romantic music...you know, prepare the room accordingly." He winked at the butler.

"Of course, sir! I understand completely." Roberto smiled and hurried down the hall to get the champagne. Max decided to freshen up and regroup in his huge suite before he confronted them. After Roberto prepared the room and left, Max decided now was the time. He took a deep breath and walked out the door of his suite.

Max reached the door of the Royal Suite. He knocked and waited. Nigel opened the door and gasped when he saw his brother. "Max what the hell are you doing here?" he said shocked. Nigel's blood ran cold as he quickly analyzed the situation. He'd come for her.

"How could you Nigel? How could you do that to me?" he cried angrily pushing his finger accusingly into Nigel's chest.

"Are you talking about Fran? You said there was nothing between you." Nigel shot back.

"Don't you know what that means? Of course I love her! How long have you known me?" he yelled pushing him aside and entering the living room. He hadn't noticed that Nigel was in his pajamas. He only thought of him when he entered the bedroom.

"Miss Fine I came to tell you I love..." Max stopped cold in his tracks. Fran was under the covers of the large king size bed in her pajamas with a glass of champagne in her hand. They were either getting ready for love, or had just finished. He thought furiously. His heart started beating at the sight of her in his brother's bed.

"Mr. Sheffield! What are you doing here?" she cried unconsciously covering herself up with the blanket. She grabbed her robe off the floor and put it on.

"Get out of that bed." Maxwell said through clenched teeth. He grabbed her hand and pulled her up. "You're coming with me," he stated as he led her angrily out of Nigel's suite. The look he gave his brother left no doubt in Nigel's mind whom Fran belonged with. Nigel inherently knew that she belonged to him. He also had pretty much known all along that she was in love with Max. He had tried to fool himself into thinking he could make her forget his brother but knew now that would never happen. Nigel could only watch sadly as Max led her down the hall to his suite. Fran turned and mouthed 'I'm so sorry' while being led away.

Nigel blew her a kiss. "Goodbye luv," he whispered sadly closing the door.

Max put the key in door of his suite down the hall from Nigel's. Fran gasped involuntarily at the sight of such opulence. Nigel's suite was nice, but this was five times as big. What are you thinking of that for? She thought starting to get nervous by the _expression on Max's face. Oh god is he mad. How could I have left him? I love him so much. Suddenly she realized that he had come for her! He had actually booked a suite and came to get her. He loves...loved her. Oh no, he probably thinks that Nigel and me... She realized seeing him again that she couldn't have gone through marrying Nigel. She loved Maxwell and always would. Oh great, now he's probably going to fire me! I lost a husband and a job all in one day! How do I get myself into these things?

Max led her to the sofa and sat her down. He sat down next to her and looked deeply into her eyes. The look he gave her bore into her soul. Fran shuddered at the passion in his eyes. "Mr. Sheffield." she heard herself whisper though she knew she uttered his name involuntarily, she didn't know why.

"Shhh..." He suddenly took her in his arms and kissed her desperately. Max pushed her back on the couch and got on top of her. Fran couldn't have been more shocked. Her heart started pounding madly as he was, quite forcefully applying not so gentle kisses to her neck and breasts. Oh my god! What's going on? I thought he was getting ready to fire me, she thought madly.

Max pulled at the tie of her robe and opened it letting his hand wander inside. When he started on the buttons of her pajamas Fran cried out softly in disbelief. "Mr. Sheffield, what's going on?" she whispered in shock. She was starting to get very turned on at his primal assault on her. But she was nervous of his motives. "What are you doing? Why...?"

"Quiet." he ordered. Suddenly he lifted her into his arms and carried her to the bed. Fran looked at him, eyes wide open with utter astonishment and complete surrender. He had completely dominated her and she was ready to do whatever he wanted...whatever the consequences. Maxwell deposited her on the bed. He quickly got on top of her covering her mouth with his. He forced his tongue into her mouth almost with a vengeance. His visceral passion surprised and thrilled her. He was in complete control of her and that didn't displease her at all. He was like a caveman, dominant and officious. Her heart was pounding through her chest and she couldn't believe what was happening.

He pulled her robe off and continued unbuttoning her pajamas. Max finally looked her in the eyes, daring her to stop him. He reached in and let his tongue find her breasts, gently nipping them till they hardened. He moaned her name as he let his hands travel to her thighs. He let his hand cup between her legs causing her to cry out his name. Her hips raised into his hand causing him to rub harder. Suddenly he stripped her bottoms off so she was basically naked to him except for her thin lace panties.

"Mr. Sheffield!" she cried. Truth be told, Fran was starting to get a little scared at his ferocity. This wasn't the tender and loving Maxwell Sheffield that she had come to know. She inherently knew that the man on top of her had a primal need to posses her...right now. But the feelings that were now surging through her were preventing her from stopping him. Her breathing was out of control and the feeling of his enormous erection pressing into her panties was making her lose all sense of control.

Before she knew what was happening he was sliding the last piece of clothing that separated them down her thighs. He looked into her eyes. She saw something in them that looked like love mixed with a little... betrayal? She looked back into his eyes trustingly. Whatever he was going to do to her, she would let him. He suddenly pushed two fingers into her causing her to cry out his name in surprise and rapture.

"Fran." he moaned at her reaction. "Oh, Fran." He kissed her neck, ears and breasts. She rose into his fingers. She could feel herself squeezing them involuntarily. She was very wet and ready for him. He got on top of her and thrust himself in with one motion. Fran cried out. She made little sounds of pleasure and moaned his name over and over as he desperately pressed into her.

Finally she couldn't keep it in any longer. She had to tell him. "I didn't have sex with Nigel." she whispered as he kissed her ear. "I wanted you but you rejected me. I love you," she gasped out her last statement as the orgasm hit her. Fran's head flew back on the pillow and she cried out as the waves of incredible enjoyment rushed through her. She clutched him and tried to catch her breath.

Witnessing her climax Max released. He was surprised that he could hold out so long. He had wanted her for so long. Suddenly her confession registered with him. He had literally been out of his mind the last few hours at the thought of her in Nigel's arms. He had been absolutely sure that she had run off with his brother to punish him for rejecting her. He had subconsciously wanted to possess her, to dominate her. Max knew that he really had no rights after pushing her away, but goddamit she was his!

Suddenly Max is beyond relieved as it sinks in. "Miss Fine...Fran." he said getting off of her and looking in her eyes. "You didn't have relations with my brother?"

"No. How could you even think that." she said tears welling up. I wasn't going to until we were married." The suite only had one bed. Nigel was going to sleep on the couch."

At the sight of her tears Max started to panic. He realized what he had just done and is horrified that he in some way violated her. He would never have been so forceful with a woman, especially a woman he loved if he didn't feel so bloody betrayed. Oh god...what have I done? He almost felt like he raped her.

"Fran, darling." he cried finally regaining all his senses. "Are you all right? Did I cause you any...discomfort?" He looked worriedly into her eyes. He hugged her tightly to him applying soft kisses to her face.

"You didn't hurt me at all." she whispered a little surprised. "You were wonderful. Nobody has ever made me feel like you just did." She looked up at him adoringly. Fran can't believe that Mr. Sheffield...her boss...had made her feel like that.

Maxwell's heart soared at that. "I was a bloody fool for pushing you away this afternoon. I don't know why I did it. I regretted it almost immediately. Please forgive me. And I mean for everything. I don't know why I was so scared of a relationship." He kissed her passionately.

"Mr. Sheffield if you continue with that, I'm going to want to do it again." She looked up at him guilelessly, giving him a small smile.

Max was so relieved at her confession that he almost chuckled. "Oh Miss Fine, like we weren't going to do it again," he murmured rolling her on her back and kissing her.

The End

Hello everyone. I hope you enjoyed this version of An Affair to Dismember. I wanted to get inside Nigel's head a little.

I have to tell you, it's been a blast writing these fan fics for you over the last year. This will be my last one. God Bless.
