Hook gazed down at Jason who was sound asleep. He was afraid to pinch himself for fear he'd wake up and find out this was merely a dream, and Hook so much did not want this to be a dream.
I can't believe Jason is actually here in my bed, thought Hook. He played back in his mind the series of events that led to this dream-come-true.
It was earlier this very morning when Hook finally worked up the courage to invite Jason to see the new Lord of the Rings movie. The Two Towers had received rave reviews, and just about everyone he knew had already seen it and loved it.
Okay, thought Hook, be cool, be casual. Just a couple of good friends out to see a movie. Nothing wrong with that, right?
There was Jason at his desk. He was drinking his morning cup of coffee. Hook marveled at how Jason looked so adorable just drinking coffee. But then to Hook everything about Jason was adorable. Well, everything except his love for Kevin.
Well, here goes, thought Hook. He walked over toward Jason's desk. Jason looked up and saw him coming.
"Good morning, Hook," said Jason cheerily. "Lovely day."
"Yes, it is," said Hook. "Good morning. Say, Jason, if you don't have any plans for tonight, would you like to go with me to see that new movie, 'The Two Towers'?"
Jason stared at Hook for just a few seconds. Then he smiled.
"Sure. I've been meaning to see that. Why not tonight? It's Friday so we don't have to worry about getting up early for work tomorrow."
"Great," said Hook using all his self-restraint to keep from leaping up and down and crying out with joy. "We could even get a bite to eat right after work before going to the show."
"How about pizza?"
"Pizza sounds good."
"Good. Dinner and a movie. See you then," said Jason. Then he took another sip of his coffee and continued on his paperwork.
What Hook and Jason did not know was that just about everyone else in the precinct knew about or suspected Hook's lustful feelings for Jason. He managed to keep his feelings hidden from Jason, but the others picked up on it. But no one in the precinct said a word about it, as everyone knew it wasn't their place to mention it. Even the regular jail inmates knew about it.
"So he finally got the balls to ask Jason out to a movie? It's about time," said Mike who was being arrested again for vandalism.
The officer booking Mike nodded and replied, "Yeah, the suspense was killing us."
So they went out after work, had pizza at a nearby Italian restaurant, then went to see the movie.
They had taken Jason's car, as Hook had loaned his own car to his sister for a week. After the movie, Jason gave Hook a ride to his apartment. They said good-night and Hook went inside. A few minutes later there was a knock at the door. It was Jason. His car had stalled, and since it was so late at night, Hook generously offered to let Jason crash at his place until they could call to have a tow truck take Jason's car to a repair shop.
"Thanks, Hook," said Jason. "I'll just sleep on the couch."
"Well, you could," said Hook. "But I know from experience it's not very comfortable, especially for a tall guy such as you."
"Don't worry. I'll be fine," said Jason. "I appreciate you letting me stay here overnight."
"Jason, this is silly," said Hook. "I have a king-size bed. There's plenty of room for both of us. Why don't you bunk in with me? It's up to you. I'm very sleepy now, so if you'll please excuse me, I'm going to turn in." He yawned, waved good-night and headed for the bedroom.
Jason sat on the couch and looked at Hook walking away. He thought quietly for a moment, then he got up and headed for the bedroom.
"Which side of the bed do you prefer?" he asked Hook.
"The right," said Hook. He could hardly contain his excitement. Here was his beloved Jason, the man of his dreams, coming to join him in bed!
Jason got undressed as far as his undershirt and briefs, then climbed into bed and got underneath the covers.
"Good-night, Hook," said Jason sleepily. He rolled over on his side so that his back faced Hook.
"Good-night, Jason," said Hook.
Hook didn't know when he finally fell asleep. He woke up to the sound of whispering. Who was whispering? Oh, it's just Jason. Jason?! What's Jason doing here? Oh, right. He spent the night here. Yes! My beloved Jason spent the night here with me in my very own apartment and slept in my very own bed with me right here beside him! Can't wait to put this in my diary, thought Hook.
Hook got out of bed and looked in the living room. There was Jason speaking softly into his wireless phone. From what he was saying, Hook could tell it was Kevin to whom Jason was speaking. Shit, thought Hook. Might have known he'd be on the phone with his precious cute pretty-boy-toy Kevin. I hate Kevin. Wish he'd leave the planet.
Jason ended the call and glanced up to see Hook. He smiled.
"I didn't wake you, did I?" asked Jason.
"No, not all," said Hook. "I'm going to make some coffee. Do you want some? How about some breakfast? I could make us some eggs and toast."
"No, thanks, Hook. Uh, this may sound strange to you, but I'm going to see Kevin now."
"What? But your car--"
"The repair shop doesn't open for another couple of hours. Would you mind calling the tow truck and having them take the car in for me? I'll owe you big time for this. But I just have to see Kevin right away."
"How are you going to get to the airport?"
"I called a taxicab."
"What's the rush? Why do you need to see Kevin all of a sudden?"
"Hook, I had the craziest and scariest nightmare. Must have been a combination of the pizza and the movie. I dreamt I went to see Kevin and he got sucked into a vortex that led to some Tolkien world, and I got sucked into it, too. And Kevin was really that Elf Prince Legolas from the movie. And then I got sent back to Kevin's apartment. Then a message from Kevin was sent to me from that other world explaining who he really was. Then I fell asleep in his bed after a good long cry. But then I woke up and there was Kevin! My very own sweet darling Kevin! So I held him close to me and cried some more because I was so happy to see him, and I was so relieved that it was only a bad dream! But then it turned out it wasn't a dream, and he was really Legolas, so I thought I was losing my mind. And then I woke up here in your apartment, so I'm pretty sure all of that was only a dream within a dream. But I had to know for sure, so I called Kevin. He knows I'm on my way to see him. Hook, I just have to see for myself that's he's still there and that he's really my Kevin."
Hook stared at Jason. He sat down on the couch.
"Sure, I understand. Go. Have a safe trip. When will you be back?"
"I hope no later than Sunday night. If it takes me longer than that, I'll call you."
"Okay. And don't worry. I'll take care of calling the tow truck and the repair shop for you."
"Thanks, Hook! Oh, there's my taxicab. Gotta run. 'Bye!" Jason rushed out the door.
Hook looked out the window and watched Jason enter the taxicab. It pulled away from the curb and disappeared from view.
