The J.A.M. -

My first dealings with Deborah Walley didn’t involve her directly, I guess. “Good Times, Bat Times” was aired in Spanish, and I caught it the moment Foxglove said, “I thought that maybe in the bottom of your heart you’d have the desire to invite me to lunch.” (“I thought perhaps a certain chipmunk might find it in his heart to invite a girl to breakfast”) Naturally, I waited several months before I saw the whole thing, and I had a bazillion theories of the first part of the episode running in my mind before I did. I didn’t hear Mrs. Walley until sometime after I finished my first CDRR fanfic “Let’s Suppose Chip & Dale Behaved Slightly Differently After The Kidnapping.” It was at Jaleel’s site, I think, where I found that particular line, and I remember thinking how weird Foxglove sounded in English.

I had wanted to get the .wav files of the Spanish lines so that others could do a comparison, but by the time I had bought my own computer, the tape I had GT,BT had been erased, my VCR died, and the Mexican Network pulled CDRR from the air indefinitely.

Still, it was a wonderful occasion when Mrs. Walley showed up at the Café……and said my name. I was completely speechless at that. It was the first time a voice actress had acknowledged me and considered me as a friend, or a friendly acquaintance, at least.

Sometime after that, I finally gathered the nerve to send her “Death of a Comedian”, just to hear her opinions of it. Her secretary replied, I think, telling me that she would read my “script” when she had the time. I wonder if she ever did....

She will always be missed, but with one glimmer of hope, that we all will see her again on that Sweet, Sweet, Someday…
