This dramedy is far and away the most irresistible new series on any network this fall. The fact that this hour of refreshingly sweet, low-key and unpretentious storytelling has cranky cynic David Letterman as one of its executive producers is rather shocking in itself. 'Ed' stars Tom Cavanagh (who has appeared on 'Providence') as a lawyer who loses his big-city job, walks out on his cheating wife, goes home to Ohio and buys the bowling alley in the small town where he grew up while courting his high-school crush.
