Feng-Shui

Here we are going to look closely at the inside of the Halliwell manor and be more familiar with the rules of Feng-Shui, the Asian art that consists in arranging the inside of your home to make your life more positive. You can then do the same thing with your room!

STATE OF THE PLACE
The attic of the manor is by a long way the most important room in the series, as this is where the Book of Shadows, the old trunk, the ceremonial table... Therefore it's in that room that we are going to have fun applying the rules of Feng-Shui... The first idea consists in finding the centre of the room (1), an area that corresponds in some sort to the "soul" of the room (or of the house or apartment, if you wish to take care of your entire home) and that needs to be clear of all sorts of mess. This is the case with the Halliwells: everything is usually clear under the red lantern, except if some ceremony is taking place. But in this case, it's the entire attic that is used to succeed to the mysterious ceremony, therefore it's not surprising that the ceremonial table is situated at that particular place during these ceremonies.

Then you need to divide the room in eight regular areas of 45º and to look which way the door is. On the wall where the door is, take the central area and start giving numbers to the areas starting from this one (here from 2 to 9). How is it in Charmed? Well, for example, the Book of Shadows is in area number 8 and the old trunk is in area number 4. What does this mean? This is when the rules of Feng-Shui are used to describe the universal destination of each of these areas:

Area nº2: Career
... tells you who you are and the way you prepare for life. If a wall or some kind of furniture are located in this area, don't be surprised if things are harder that you want them to and if any projects are late. In the Charmed attic, no real problem as the door partially opens in this area and leads you directly to the center of the room.

Area nº3: Meditation
... where you normally meditate, or rest, or just be calm, this area is not very important in the Halliwell attic, which is normal if you consider all the excitement and action that normally takes place in it.

Area nº4: Family
...this area defines our relationships with our parents or generally with our past. Not surprising that at that particular space is the old trunk containing the objects of witchcraft, and also that appear from time to time the ghosts of the mother and grand-mother of the three girls.

Area nº5: Richness
...area of luck and prosperity, and of where bins, toilets and mess must not be. In the attic, this area doesn't obey much to the rules of Feng-Shui, and tells the sisters that they will need to work hard to do what they want to in life.

Area nº 6: Light
...this area is in some sort what we want to achieve personally, it's our 'future self'. In the series, we find here a window, although without transparent glass, but more of colored pieces of glass (yellow, pale pink), that help keep the mystical character to the Halliwell reputation.

Area nº7: Relationships
... apparently directly related to the boyfriend, but also to the friends and family, this area must absolutely be taken care of by single people who do not which to stay it. Throw away all the mess that might be there, decorate in warm colors (red, brown...), place a pretty candle there... In Charmed, this area is very little taken care of: that's probably why at the beginning of the series we hardly ever saw them with boys, then Prue's boyfriend got killed, while Piper seems to be happy with Leo and Phoebe's boyfriend is a demon... And people say we're complicated!

Area nº8: Creativity
...here, you need to put things related to your future projects (success, travel, buying things...). The Halliwell sisters placed the Book of Shadows here, obviously, as it is their main occupation!

Area nº9: Exterior help
...in this area, you need to concentrate on the arrival and help of friends or family. In Charmed, this is another area not used much. But this is probably because part of the message of the series is that the three sisters need to take care of themselves, and not to ask for help much.

So? What did you think of this little explanation of the rules of Feng-Shui? Are you ready to change your room to make it obey to the rules? Make yourself feel at home!
