Coolbyne's drafted letter to Jorja:

So, by now you’re probably wondering, “What in the world?”

A brief history…

Those of us who frequent yourtaxdollarsatwork.org have long been fans of your work on CSI, and this season has been no exception.  In fact, your work on the show has just gotten better.  As of this letter, we’ve seen episodes like “No Humans Involved”, and “Nesting Dolls” just blow us away.  Even the smallest of scenes, such as the one with you and William Petersen in “Snakes” are so rich that we can’t help but say, “Give that woman an Emmy!”

Well, we can’t do that for you, unfortunately.  But we can show our appreciation in another way, and that’s how this “project” came about.  Several ideas were tossed around to see how we could offer you something that said, “Hey, we just wanted to let you know you’re doin’ great!”  We needed something that everyone could get involved in no matter his or her financial situation, and we also needed it to be something that would reflect you in some way.  [first name] “coolbyrne” [last name] suggested the guitar picks, and an idea was born!  Along the way, we wondered what we’d put them in, and [first name]  “FishTank-36” [last name] suggested a guitar case.  Then we were rolling!  As you can see, it sorta spilled over to CDs, but we drew the line at a karaoke machine.  (Kidding!  Actually, that was probably the only thing that wasn’t suggested!) [last name] “ZenBridge” [last name] offered to take care of the shipping and… there you have it.

The only caveat attached to the CDs was that they had to represent the area where the fan lived. i.e. sending a U2 CD if you lived in Mexico was frowned upon!  What we were trying to do was give you an idea of how far and wide your fan base is and we hope we’ve succeeded.  If not, the stickers on the outside of your guitar case should do the trick!

And yet, amongst the letters and CDs and stickers and guitar case, the heart of the gift is the picks.  The essence is really this –we hope that you’ll look at these picks as a small representation of your fans and know that each pick means there’s at least one fan who sits there every Thursday night from 9-10pm and says, “This chick rocks!”

UPDATE (Feb 16, 2005):

The picks have shipped.

UPDATE (Feb 10, 2005):

The Design is changing.  So that it can scale down to still be readable, I had to alter the initial design.  I hope this only sets the production back by one day.

I would've liked to have the "yourtaxdollarsatwork" site printed, but the text would've been too small.

The new design:

UPDATE:

I've called the custom-pick-people and they were nice enough to put a rush on my order and guarantee a February 24th arrival date.

After that, I can start sending them to the members who want one.

I'll wait to post information on how to get your own pick when I've sent the signed ones to ZenBridge.

I won't take requests for these picks until I've posted the guidelines for buying them.

Here is the design I've modified from idreamedmusic's banner for the Butterfly Squad guitar picks.

The pick is two-sided, .80mm, and triangle-shaped (unlike the tapered oval-shaped ones).  The design will be what's seen here printed on a white, pearl material.

I've ordered 100 200 to give Jorja Fox a loose representation of the # of members who cheer for her while scouting for butterflies.

Original Post:

In honor of the Jorja Pick Project, I've designed and ordered 100 200 picks to send along as a representation of The Butterfly Squad.

There are spaces on the back in which I'll inscribe each current member's name.

I've also added Jorja Fox's name to the list as an honorary member.  That way, I'll be able to transcribe her name onto her own pick!

There's a question of whether I should order extra to have on hand to send to members who want one of their own.  Because it's a full-color custom-design, I can only order them in denominations of 100.  Already, several members have PM'd asking for one.  In a couple weeks, I'll be able to give a definitive answer as to whether I'll make them available with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and maybe a tiny donation to help me offset the cost of ordering/rushing/re-customizing these picks.
