Why?

I took a deep breath in, “Here it goes.”
I pressed the buzzer, and waited for an answer.
“Hello?”
It was her; I would recognize that voice anywhere.
“Buffy!” I gasped.
There was a long silence as realisation set in.
“Come in.”
The buzzer sounded and I pushed open the door.
I slowly walked up the stairs, trying to calm my nerves.
Finally I reached her flat.
Buffy stood solid in the doorway.
“Buffy?” I asked, she looked different from how I’d remembered. She’d cut her hair, it was now just below her ears and much darker, and I even thought I could see a streak of grey.
“Why did you leave me?” She whispered.
I stared hard into her eyes… Were those tears I could see forming?
“I’m sorry… but with all that happened I couldn’t cope…”
“YOU COULDN’T COPE?!” She exploded. “What about me? She was my sister… for god sake!”
“I know and I’m sorry, but I promised you I’d protect her… and I failed! I never thought you’d forgive me? So I just left…”
“Without saying goodbye or anything? I was really torn… I thought you loved me?”
“I did and I still do!”
I reached for her arm, “Spike…no!” She pulled away from me, “I’ve moved on in my life… and you should too.”
I shook my head, “I can’t, I love you so much, and I know you love me too!”
I grabbed her with both hands and pulled her into a passionate kiss.
Buffy pushed me away. I stared into her eyes and saw a light that hadn’t been there before. I pulled her in again.
One Mississippi… two Mississippi…
three Mississippi… four Mississippi… five Mississippi… six Mississippi…
I began to unbutton her shirt… “Spike stop!”
I did. “I’m sorry…”
“So you should be!” A voice sounded behind me, I whirled round ready for a fight. There stood an old lady, “Nobody is having sex in my hallway.”
Buffy laughed, “Come in, Spike.” She grabbed my hand and pulled me into her flat.
“Now don’t you two make to much noise!”
