Looking In On You

Rating: PG-13. Oooo. Blatant sexual dialog! Innuendo! TV-14 for D even!

Setting: Season Three. Okay, so basically this takes place after the pep rally and after Pacey and Andie break up but before Andie goes completely psycho and steals the PSAT answers, etc. Dawson and Joey have made up, however, and had their every Dawson has a Joey scene and he gave her the necklace and all. Jen and Jack are buddies, even though they don't live together anymore. Henry, well sure Henry can be around. He's not appearing in this part, but he still exists. Unfortunetly Eve exists too, but I don't think for long... (evil cackling).

Looking In On You

Andie stood in front of her mirror and smugly assessed herself. She would work on changing something about her appearance more drastically, but this was enough for now. She needed a change, the greater the better. To the observant onlooker, Andie really looked no different. Her sweater was slightly more low-cut, her jeans a little tighter. Her hair was back to its old blond cut, but she had a plastic headband in it. It was something new. She turned to the side, anxiously fingering her necklace as she checked out her four inch boots. She simply looked better, like she was putting more care into her appearance. More jewelry, more nail polish, more eye shadow, more lipstick. Andie faced forward again before a deep crease appeared in her forehead. She frowned.

"But who am I trying to impress?" she asked aloud to no one before frustratedly throwing herself onto her bed. She glanced briefly at the picture on her end table before opening the drawer and taking out her diary. She solemnly flipped to a few pages into it where she had written about life after coming to Capeside. The wrinkle returned as she read on and her lips grew tighter. She threw the book back into the drawer, slammed it, and put her hands to her nose to stifle the sob. Her eyes watered enough for two small tears to spill out before she shut her light and crawled into bed, huddled in a fetal position. She was not going to let anyone hear her cry anymore. Not about this.

She silently cursed herself for reading the words she had happily penned what seemed as not so long ago. An eternity had passed since she first met Pacey, but it also seemed like no time at all. When had she stopped giddily speculating about the time he held her hand for twenty minutes for no reason? She remembered everything, even going to Dawson's and nervously ringing his boxers as she confessed her crush. She remembered the way Pacey looked at her then, a way he would never look at her again. Why could she remember so much when she needed to be hardening herself against him?

Jack listened quietly at the door and sighed. Andie was crying again. He wondered if he should go in and try to help, but decided that Andie preferred it if no one saw her weak. Especially over just a guy after everything else she had been through in her life. Jack had moved in with Andie and his father about a month after they had returned from Providence. Of course, his father was prone to taking long trips away from the house because of "business" trips. Jack didn't particularly believe it, but he had adjusted to the situation for Andie's sake. He knew she needed stability, and she was one of the few family members he still had. He still hung out at Jen's house almost as much as when he had lived there, but he went home each night to watch Andie, even if he wouldn't admit it to anyone. Andie hadn't told him anything that had happened, but it was pretty obvious that she had broken up with Pacey when she came back. She had been different since then. Nothing too extreme, but she had lost her spark. She tried to keep herself busy with people and events all the time, but if she was not being diverted for fifteen minutes, Andie would stare into space and nervously hug herself. Jack learned that that must be when she was remembering what she no longer had, and he should try and take her mind off of it.

Dawson opened his email and crinkled his nose in disgust. "Again?" he rolled his eyes. Dawson had gotten in a lot of trouble for Eve's little ploy. The principal did not take kindly to seeing his students half naked in front of an audience at school. Dawson's only saving grace from suspension and expulsion was the fact that his father had gotten down on his knees and pleaded for him. There was also the fact that if Dawson was expelled the school would have more scandalous publicity that it did not need. Capeside was a small town, a typical headline was when Mrs. Gardner's cat got stuck in a tree. It would eat up a school sex scandal, even if one of the participants wasn't a teacher.

Dawson looked long and hard at his computer screen before trashing the email and blocking Eve. She was causing him to turn into something he didn't want to be. No matter how influential the promise of sex was, Dawson could not shake his instinct that his first time should be with Joey. He turned in his chair at the sound of Pacey's heavy footsteps on his roof. "Hey, Pace," he smiled as his friend poked his head in the window.

"Dawson, you should seriously consider an elevator here," Pacey said, hitting his head against the windowpane as he crawled into the room, "the ladder thing just isn't working for me anymore." Dawson shrugged.

"So to what do I owe the pleasure of this unexpected visit?" Dawson asked.

"Must I explain all attempts to contact you? You're my friend, do I need a reason for dropping by?"

"Guess not," Dawson said, looking back to his computer screen. An instant message from Eve graced his presence. He groaned and blocked her screename in addition to her emails.

"Trouble in paradise?" Pacey asked.

"I can't get Eve to leave me alone," Dawson moaned. "I don't think she handles rejection very well."

"I still don't understand why you're rejecting a beautiful girl who wants to have uncommitted sex with you, no strings attached."

"Pacey, I don't know her. I don't know her at all. I can't just have sex with her when it's my first time, it would be so unfulfilling."

"Was it unfulfilling when she went down on you on your boat?" Pacey smirked. An evil smile crept onto Dawson's face.

"Only when it crashed. But, no, that's different. I mean, if I had sex with Eve, that's all it would be. Lust filled.. sex. For at least my very first time I just want it to have more meaning than that. If I want to really satisfy lust... well, I have a hand for that purpose." Pacey cringed at the words.

"God, Dawson, I did NOT need you to share that with me. Hey, so me and Joey are going to the new Rialto on Friday, do you want to come?"

"Yeah, sure. You sure I'm not intruding?"

"We've been over this. You are our friend, you are absolutely not intruding on anything. We want you to come. Well, I definitely want you to come, and Joey does too whether or not she admits it."

"Okay, I'll see you then. I hate to cut your visit short, but we do have school tomorrow and since I've wasted my night on the computer I have to get to work."

"You're not kicking me out, are you?" Pacey gave Dawson an amused expression.

"Yep, throwing you down the ladder. Come on, I'll see you tomorrow, just like every day. You should try doing some homework again you know."

"That part of my life is behind me, D. I'm back to slacker Pacey, making procrastination an art form." Pacey grinned again and disappeared down the ladder. Dawson watched him walking outside and gave Pacey a worried look. He was in such denial about being hurt it was unreal. Pacey had completely obliterated Andie from his mind, as if she had never existed. Dawson wondered when Pacey had moved on... and if he ever really had. It was not healthy, at least in Dawson's opinion, to skip analysis so completely and just move on. He wondered if Andie was faring any better, but he somehow knew that she wasn't.
