Buster Baxter
Buster is Arthur's best friend. He loves telling jokes, and reads a lot of joke books. He even worked at Jack's Joke Shop to pay off a debt, where he fit in perfectly. He is the goofiest of Arthur's gang. Arthur thinks he is really funny. He goes on most of the gang's adventures. When he and Arthur are together, they like to play checkers, watch Bionic Bunny, read comics and Robin Hood, and write their continuing Robin Hood-esque story. Buster will eat anything, be it old or disgusting, no matter. When eating ice cream, he goes for the weirdest new flavors. He does not do very well at school, and never read a whole book until 3rd grade. He never passes tests with flying colors, and was even in danger of flunking and repeating 3rd grade at one point.
Buster has asthma, although it is seldom mentioned. For that reason he cannot keep pets in the house. He thinks everything is connected to space aliens, even accusing several people of being aliens. Even when he is not talking about aliens, his ideas are off the wall. His plans do not usually work out. He likes to play detective, dressing up in a trench coat and hat and narrating in a film-noir stule. He also falls a lot. He once stole a toy, but unlike Arthur's near theft out of the school kitchen, it was because he wanted the toy, not out of peer pressure.
His parents are divorced. He lives with his mother, Bitzi, who is a newspaper reporter and his father is a pilot. He once left Elwood City for a while to travel around the world with his dad. When he came back, he felt like everything had changed (without his knowledge, his friends were afraid of the same thing - that Buster had changed), but he soon re-integrated with the group.
