Chapter 21

Sean goes home after a long day at the police station.  He just knew the day was doomed when the first problem he had to fix was Luke and Laura arguing in the park.  He walked inside to see his wife sitting on the couch, watching herself on tv.

Sean:  Was that today's news?

Tiffany:  Yeah.  Nothing really interesting has happened lately, though.

Sean:  I wouldn't say that.

Tiffany:  What are you talking about?

Sean:  Where's Anna?  Is she asleep already?

Tiffany:  Yeah.  She passed out about an hour ago.  Why?  Is something wrong?

Sean:  I don't know.  Just something hasn't been feeling right after I ran into Luke and Laura today in the park.

Tiffany:  What do you mean?

Sean:  I can't pinpoint why I think that their fight was more than just a fight that married couples get into.  This seems so much more serious and I have no doubt that the Cassadines are involved in some way.

Tiffany:  What do you mean fight?  I'm at a loss here, so you better start from the beginning.

Sean sat down and told her about finding Luke at his club with a gun and following him over to the docks across from Spoon Island, only to see Laura coming from there.  "Then I walked through the park today to catch them fighting.  They looked like they were about to strangle each other."

Tiffany:  And you think this has something to do with the Cassadines?

Sean:  Well, Luke was planning on giving Stefan Cassadine a visit to tell him to stay away from Laura.  There's something going on between these two families.  I've looked through old police files and you should see how many officers were used to make sure those two didn't kill each other.

Tiffany:  Well, you weren't around for when the Cassadines tried to freeze Port Charles.  If Luke, Laura, and Robert hadn't come, the Cassadines would have succeeded.  I know that family always gave me the creeps, but I don't remember a Stefan.

Sean:  Well, he lives here now with his nephew Nikolas.  He's Stavros' brother, I read.

Tiffany:  Stavros had a brother?  No wonder why Luke is flipping out.  I definitely don't blame him if Stefan is as psycho as his brother.

Sean:  Why, is there something I should know about?

Tiffany:  Only that Stavros had Laura kidnapped and held her on an island for 2 years.  He later died when he came after Laura after she escaped from the island.  Wait a minute... did you say Stefan was here with his nephew?

Sean:  Yes, Nikolas.

Tiffany:  That's impossible.  I never heard of Stavros having a child when I was with the Cassadines.  I thought I overheard once that there was no heir to the family yet.  And Stavros died right after Laura escaped, so it doesn't leave him much time to have a child.

Sean:  Maybe that's the key to this whole thing.  What if Nikolas is Laura's son?

Tiffany:  Don't be silly, Sean.  Laura would never keep that a secret. (but Tiff started to believe maybe she had kept it a secret and that's why she felt there was something off with Laura)

Laura returned home, hoping that either Luke or Lucky had found their way back home after the events that took place earlier that day.   She walked inside and saw her mother playing with Lulu on the couch.  Lesley looked over at her daughter and noticed that her day didn't get any better than it was this morning.

Lesley:  What happened?

Laura:  I don't quite know how to explain it.  Let's just say that my secret is out in the open now. Not only does Luke know now, but so does Lucky and Nikolas, and Stefan found out that Nikolas knows.  I don't know what to do anymore.  I just feel like everything is crumbling around me and all I can do is wait till it all comes tumbling down on me.

Lesley:  You're going to have to find a way to keep strong and pull everything back together.

Laura:  I know, Mom, but right now I'm so exhausted.  I really just sometimes feel that if I let go, it might be all for the best.  I would stop hurting everyone I ever cared about.

Lesley:  It's really that bad right now?

Laura:  Luke's more upset and hurt than I have ever seen him in my whole life.  He can't even look at me right now, let alone try to work things out.  Lucky ran off feeling that he's been lied to all his life.  I don't know where he is.  Nikolas ran off too after he confronted Stefan.  Stefan vowed to get revenge on me. <sarcastically> I guess it hasn't been one of my better days.

Bobbie storms into the Spencer house.  "Well, expect it to get a lot worse now."

Nikolas walked around the park trying to digest everything he's just been told.  He walked over to the fountain and sat next to it.  He started remembering his childhood in Greece and how he always yearned for a family.  He always wanted to have a mother and a father actually one out of two wouldn't have been too bad.  Instead, he was told bedtime stories about who his father was (which were lies), and later in life,  he was often told about his mother killing his father to be with another man  a common thug at that.  He had Stefan there every step of the way, but it didn't cause him to want his parents any less.  He remembered a time when he was about 8 and found the portrait of his mother that Stefan had.   It was the first time he remembered seeing his mother ever.  He didn't know who she was and asked Stefan, but he tried to avoid the question.  Eventually he found out who that woman was and couldn't believe it was the same woman that he had been told could commit murder and abandon him without a second thought.   He wasn't sure whether to believe it now, either.  He wasn't sure what to believe anymore.

Luke is passed out at his desk when Jason walks in.  Jason wonders what has just happened and tries to wake Luke up.  Since shaking him wasn't working, Jason backslapped him out of his chair.  Luke's eyes opened as he hit the floor.

Jason:  Sorry, Luke.  I didn't mean to slap you that hard, but nothing else seemed to wake you.

Luke:  Oh man. I don't know what hurts worse... my headache or that slap.  Is there something I can do for you, Jason?

Jason:  I came by to ask you about Sean Donnelly.  How well do you know him?

Luke:  Sean  well, let's just say we go way back.  Has he been harassing you?

Jason:  He came by the penthouse to make sure I knew he was in charge of the PCPD and to watch my back otherwise I'll end up in the slammer.

Luke:  That's Sean for you.

Jason:  Can he be bought?

Luke:  No.  At one point he would have been able to, but not anymore.  He's pretty clean now.

Jason:  I understand.  Is there anything else I should know about him?

Luke:  What is this, 20 questions?

Jason:  I just need some information, Luke.

Luke:  I can't give you much.  Sean is good.  He's smarter than most and he doesn't give up.  You're going to have to watch your back all the time now, Jase, if you know what I mean.

Jason:  Thanks, Luke.  I'll keep that in mind.

Luke:  Jason, I need a favor in return.

Jason:  Name it.

Luke:  Can you put some guys on Stefan Cassadine for me?  I want to know every move he makes.

Jason:  Is your family in danger?

Luke:  Not yet, but I'm counting on something happening.  Let's just say I want to be prepared.

Jason:  I'll get 2 guys on him at all times.  He won't even know they're around.  I'll have them report to you.  Should I have them report here or at your house?

Luke:  At my house.  I want to stick close to my family for the time being.

Jason:  Then it's done.  (Jason leaves as Luke looks at the clock.  He calls a cab to get a ride back home because he is too hungover to drive himself.)
