The Goerge Westinghouse Marching Band has been a tradition and favorite of Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania for over 40 years. The "Highsteppin" Bulldogs are a band like no other in its district. Westinghouse took the classic military percesion of the north and mixed it with the saucy, rithmic highstep of the south. As a result, The Highsteppin Bulldog Marching Band wowed all of its northern competition with its unique dances, cadences, and medolies of popular Hip-Hop and R&B Music.
Under the direction of Richard Russo the westinghouse band has competed in many band festivals such as the Moon-Township band fest and the Ambige international food festival and parade.Yet there is no other festival that can compare with the Pittsburgh Public School's All City Varcity Marching Band Festival. This is the "heat" of the school year. This is the chance for all the marchimg bands in the district to come together in the same place and show thier "stuff". This s where the Highsteppn Bulldogs shine.
Yes they are. Westinghouse cheerleaders are the only one in the district whos cheerlearders a part of the bands auxillary. This groups of girls are the sasiest of the Bulldog team. Thier sharp moves and dedication seperate this team from any other in the city.
The legendary brass and woodwind section of the band are the voice of the band. Not only are they diciplined musicians, but they are some of the most coordinated dancers in the ditrict. They bring out the voice of the melody and the percesion of highstep.
The very competative and spirited drumline are the very heart and soul of the band. Thier precise movements and rithym makes the section one of the most valued in the band. They produce the unique set cadences and "beat" of the melody.
