Part 1

24-year-old Bianca Montgomery sat at her desk, looking blankly at her computer screen. Her shoulder length brown hair hung loosely. Her thin-framed glasses complemented her round face. Her eyes were on the verge of betraying her emotions.

"Earth to Bianca! Are you there?" came the voice of her best friend and roommate, 26-year-old Maggie Stone from behind. Maggie stood over Bianca's shoulder wondering what her friend could be so enthralled in. Not intending to pry, but unable to stop, Maggie saw the e-mail that was on Bianca's monitor. She softly placed her hand on Bianca's shoulder and gave it a firm squeeze.

"I think I'm gonna be sick," Bianca said. She turned around noticing Maggie for the first time. Bianca began to stand but her legs betrayed her. Maggie caught her descending friend.

"Whoa, I got you Bianca. Come on, just sit down," Maggie said hoisting her friend back into her chair. She walked quickly into the bathroom and grabbed a cloth. She ran cold water on to it and moved back into the living room. "Here, put this on your face, you're really flush." Maggie had watched Bianca dissolve over the past three months.

"I am sorry Maggie," Bianca said, feeling tears escape down her cheek.

Maggie did the only thing she could think of. She leaned in and hugged her friend, hoping that these demons would go away soon. "I think we should call the police Bink. This is the third threat in the last two weeks," Maggie said looking at the monitor.

"I don't want the police involved Maggie. This is my problem. I can deal with it," Bianca said taking a deep breath.

"Oh can you really? You mean like you are dealing with it now? Jesus Bianca you won't even leave the apartment anymore. I am worried about you!" Maggie said while tying her long brown hair into a ponytail.

Bianca followed Maggie's movements as she paced back and forth. "I know you think I am weak..." Bianca began to say before she was cut off by Maggie.

"I don't think you are weak Bianca. I wouldn't...I couldn't ever think that." Sitting down next to her friend, Maggie tried to make Bianca understand. "It's just that since this happened you haven't been yourself. You never go out. You hardly leave your bedroom. If you aren't sitting in front of your computer it's the television. It's like you have given up on life Bianca. I don't think..." Maggie stopped talking and looked away.

"You don't think what?"

"It's like you wanted to die Bianca. You lived, only to come home and slowly give up on life. You were so full of energy, so full of enthusiasm, passion and desire," Maggie said standing again and walking out of the room.

Bianca stood and followed Maggie into the hallway. Maggie felt guilty. She had just opened up a can of worms, and she knew it. The wrath of her friend would soon be upon her. But a small part of Maggie had hoped that would happen. She hoped her friend would yell, shout, even scream. She didn't care whom it was directed to, so long as Bianca was directing it.

"Stop right there Maggie. How dare you say those things to me!" Bianca said raising her voice.

"What things? You mean the truth? Well since you can handle that situation," Maggie said pointing to the computer in the living room, "you should be able to handle this, right?"

"Who do you think you are?"

"Who do I think I am? I think I am the one person who has seen you through all of this Bianca. I am the one person who has never left you, never judged you, and who knows you just about as well as you know yourself. I am your best friend Bink. I am the person who is always going to tell you the truth, no matter how much it hurts you, or me. I am the person who is sitting by watching you slowly die inside. It's killing me as much as it is killing you." Maggie felt the tears surface. The lump in her throat wouldn't go down no matter how she tried to swallow it.

Bianca couldn't speak, she could only stand there and stare at Maggie. The last thing she wanted was a fight. She took a step back and turned around. What she needed now was a place to sit and think. She walked into her bedroom.

"You want enthusiasm," Bianca asked gripping her door handle, "try this." She slammed her bedroom door shut. Maggie felt the vibration from across the apartment. She shook her head. She grabbed her car keys off the counter in the kitchen. If Bianca wouldn't do anything about this, then she would by God. She snatched her black purse and walked out of the Apartment.

Part 2

"How did this happen?" Bianca asked Frank, her black, gold and gray cat. Frank purred his way off the floor, where he had curled up on a pair of Bianca's old jeans. He jumped up on top of Bianca's bed where she had plopped herself down. He worked his way to her face, and began to cuddle with her chin and nose.

"Well at least you will always love me, huh Frank," Bianca said smiling as she began to stroke Frank's underside. The cat circled Bianca and laid down next to her side. Bianca grabbed one of her pillows and rolled over. Taking a deep breath in hopes of cleansing away the last few minutes, she closed her eyes.

"Maybe all I need is a little nap," she said drifting off to sleep. The events that had occurred on that fateful night so three months ago surfaced into Bianca's memory and haunted her dreams.

She dreamed...

The phone rang. Bianca reached over and answered. There was no voice on the other end. After a few "hello's" she gave up and replaced the receiver. She reached for the TV remote as Frank curled up on her lap. The phone rang again. There was no one on the other end again, just silence. Beginning to lose her patience, Bianca slammed the receiver down. A few moments later the phone rang yet again.

"Listen you bastard, one more call and I will trace your ass!" Bianca shouted.

"Okay! To think I was just calling to say I'll be late," Maggie said laughing.

"Oh shit Maggie, I am sorry. This jerk keeps calling me and hanging up. I thought it was them again," she said returning her friends laugh.

"No such luck. Besides, maybe it is an admirer. Give the guy a break. If he starts breathing, there could be potential."

"I'll give you potential you jerk," Bianca said trying to sound stern, but failing miserably, "so you're going to be late huh? Frank and I were holding out on dinner for you."

"Sorry. There was some mix up at the hospital. Dale, that new Doctor, well he missed his rotation, so I am stuck on a double shift. Think you can hold down the fort?"

"Gee Maggie, I think I can try," Bianca said sarcastically. "But it just won't be the same without you."

"That is what they all say. By the way, Dale was asking about you the other day. Wanted to know if you were seeing someone. I didn't have the heart to tell him you're gay. You should see the lovesick puppy eyes he gets when he sees you. It's hysterical." Maggie said giggling. "I told him you just got out of a relationship, and that it wasn't the right time. I failed to mention it was with another female CPA."

"How could he live in this town and not know?" Bianca smiled into the phone. "Everyone knows everything about me. I'm surprised more people don't think we're dating!" Bianca laughed. Maggie was silent on the other end for a brief moment.

"I say let them think what they want to think Bink. Besides, I'd be honored to have you as my girl," Maggie said seriously.

"You already do," Bianca answered.

Both girls were quiet for a moment and relished in the closeness of their relationship. Though not physical, love was definitely there, whether either one of them wanted to admit it or not.

"If that freak keeps calling, just trace his ass, like you said before."

"I'll do that."

"Make sure the door is locked Bianca. There are some weird people in the city," Maggie said sounding a bit concerned.

"Yes I know. I live with one."

"Bitch!" Maggie playfully yelled.

"Slut," Bianca called back.

"I love you too."

"Feelings mutual. Bye," Bianca smiled as she hung up.

The phone rang a few moments later. Bianca reached for the receiver. "What did you forget now, my slut puppy?" she asked laughing. There was no answer. "Hello?" Bianca asked softly.

Once again there was no reply. Bianca hung up the phone and walked to her door. "Yes, definitely locked." She moved to the kitchen and grabbed a big cutting knife. "You can never be too safe you know Frank."

Later that night she tossed and turned. She couldn't seem to fall asleep. She heard her door handle jiggle, like someone was trying to get a key in. There was silence and than it jiggled again. Bianca froze, until she heard the light knock.

It was definitely Maggie's "I can't get this damn key to work" knock. Bianca got out of bed. She wore her a pair of underwear and white tank top. She almost tripped over Frank's chubby body that was sprawled out on the floor.

"Jesus Maggie, how many times do I have to tell you to just get a new key. The damn lock always sticks with that key. Maybe it is just bad luck," Bianca said rubbing her eyes as she moved to the door. She heard the key jiggle again. She reached for the handle. A tall dark shadow dressed in black from head to toe greeted her. It grabbed Bianca roughly by the throat and moved into her apartment. It tossed her carelessly into the living room against the wall. She never had a chance to scream.

Bianca woke from the dream covered in sweat. She rolled over and found the clock on the nightstand read 4:45 p.m. She stood slowly and tried to regain her balance. She looked at Frank and sighed softly. "Maybe a nap wasn't such a good idea, huh boy? I think I better go talk to Maggie and get this fixed."

Part 3

Bianca walked out to the kitchen but found Maggie nowhere. She moved to the empty living room. She noticed that Maggie's bedroom door was closed. She walked to it and gently knocked. "Maggie, are you in there?" Bianca asked as she began to open the door. From behind her she heard the front door handle jiggle. She held her breath and slumped to the floor. Maggie came around the corner seeing Bianca in a tight ball on the ground. Bianca looked up and saw Maggie. She exhaled the breath she forgot she had been holding and stood slowly, shaking her head.

"Why were you…" Maggie began to ask, wondering why Bianca was on the floor, shaking, but she answered her own question. "Oh God Bink, I'm sorry."

"I think you may be right. Maybe I should talk to the police," Bianca said.

"Glad you feel that way," Maggie said as she walked back to the door, and let Detective Frye in.

"You went to the police without me?" Bianca asked slightly shocked.

"Yes I did." Maggie said. "Please don't be mad at me Bianca. I am just worried about you."

Bianca moved around Maggie with a cold expression on her face. She closed the distance between herself and Detective Frye. Bianca did trust Derek Frye, it was just something in his eyes. Her father once told her that you could always tell a lot about a person by looking into their eyes.

"Thanks for coming Derek."

"Bianca, I just want to help out in any way I can," he said releasing her hand.

"I guess you want to see the mail, huh?" Bianca said walking into the living room.

Detective Frye scanned each e-mail message, noting that the senders address always changed, but the body of the message always remained the same. Whoever was sending these mails was defiantly covering their tracks.

"What is it Derek?"

"It won't be too hard for us to find out who is sending these threats to you Bianca. We call this a phantom address," he said pointing the sender's name, "On-line stalking and e-mail threats are nothing new. They have become increasingly popular over the last five years with the growth on the Internet. Tell me Bianca, are you on any mailing lists? Have you ever subscribed to anything over the Internet, or perhaps purchased something on-line?"

"No. Never. I don't even use the Internet. I only have this e-mail address to keep in touch with friends, and clients," she said sitting down next to Maggie.

"Okay well that is a start. As you know, whenever someone mails you a letter or sends you mail with numerous names, all of those people have access to your address now. Look, here is an example," he said pointing to an old message she had received from an old college friend, "you see your name and address here, now look at all these other people she sent this mail to as well. Now all those people have access to your address. If by chance some stalker got it, they could know a lot about you by now. Even your home address and phone number."

"But that still doesn't explain the body of the threats. Whoever is writing these knows what happened here that night. Why would someone do something like this?" Maggie asked. Bianca took a deep breath and hugged the pillow she had been holding on to much tighter. She fought another wave of nausea.

"Did you ever speak to anyone about the crime?" the Detective asked as he was downloading the messages on to a 3.5-inch floppy disk.

"No. I only spoke to the police, Maggie, and my mother. No one else would know those things. That is what has me so scared. It's like he's back," Bianca said swallowing hard.

"I can assure you Bianca, Mr. Timmons is dead. He had no surviving relatives, and no next of kin. No one was going to miss this guy. If it hadn't been for the bum who I.D. him, we would have had him listed as a John till his fingerprints from prior assaults came back to us."

"That doesn't make me feel any better Derek," Bianca said standing up, "If only a small amount of people knew what happened, just who is this person and what do they want?"

"That is one other thing that worries me. There may be a different motive here. It's a good thing Maggie came to us she did," Derek said retrieving the disk from the drive.

"What kind of motive?" Bianca asked barely in a whisper.

"A copycat perhaps. Someone who just takes pleasure in watching you suffer. Blackmail even?"

The Detective looked at the two friends on the couch. He placed the floppy in a disk protector and put it in his pocket. He pulled a stool from his left and sat on it, directly in front of the women.

"Let's talk about safety measures here," he said.

"We keep the door locked all the time," Bianca said.

"That is a start. I want to know what you think about us placing a guard outside the apartment?" he asked, "It's for safety precautions. If this guy does try and make a move, or attempt a copy of the crime we will have him."

"I think that is a good idea," Maggie said looking at Bianca.

"Sure. That sounds good," Bianca said, sounding distant.

"Good. Now as far as e-mail goes, we will set up a connection between your computer modem and mine at the station. Whenever messages come into your computer, they will run into mine as well. Also, we will place taps on your phone in case this guy decides he is tiring with e-mail. We'll get him Bianca, I promise you that," the Detective said sternly.

"Thanks," Bianca said extending her hand to Detective Frye again.

"My pleasure. Now I am going to get out of here. You two call me if you have any other problems this evening. This is my home number, this is my cell number, and this is my office number," he said pointing at each number on the small card he gave them.

"I really appreciate this Derek," Maggie said extending her hand as well.

"Good evening ladies."

Part 4

Maggie and Bianca sat in silence on the couch when they heard a knock at the door. "I'll get it," Maggie said as she headed for the door. Looking through the peephole she saw the young officer she had spoken with earlier standing outside. She opened the door and invited him in.

"Would you like a cup of coffee?" she asked him.

"No thanks. I am okay. I just wanted to properly introduce myself. My name is Keith," he said extending his hand. Maggie shook it warmly as Bianca came around the corner.

"Keith this is my roommate Bianca," Maggie said warmly as she backed away so Bianca could shake Keith's hand. Bianca smiled and reached in for a hug.

"Keith! I can't believe it. I haven't seen you in ages," Bianca said.

"You two know each other?" Maggie asked.

"Yeah, Bianca and I went to high school together," Keith said. "I had the biggest crush on her," he laughed.

"Stop," Bianca laughed playfully tapping his arm.

"Bianca, you'll be safe under my watch," Keith said seriously.

"Thanks Keith," Bianca said nodding her head.

"Yeah, thanks Keith," Maggie smiled and closed the door.

Once back inside, Maggie poured a cup of coffee for herself and Bianca. She knew neither one of them would be sleeping tonight. She walked into the living room and sat with Bianca on their couch watching the fire in front of them.

"Bink, you haven't really spoke since Detective Frye left. Are you okay?"

"I'll be okay. It's just I guess it hasn't all sunk in yet, you know? I mean I knew this jerk was out there, but I had no idea he could be after me like Timmons."

"Timmons was crazy Bianca. You saw his record. The guy who is e-mailing you is sloppy. Detective Frye said it himself. They will find him," Maggie said trying to sound reassuring.

"I don't even feel safe in our own home Maggie," Bianca said looking out the window, "and what about you?"

"What about me?" Maggie asked confused, "I feel safe here."

"You aren't safe here, not with me. If I am in danger, that puts you in danger Maggie. What if something happened to you because of me? I couldn't live with myself. What if last time he had gone after you too?"

"Bianca, stop. Nothing is going to happen to you and nothing will happen to me. I am here because I choose to be. You're my best friend and I won't let anything happen to you. I won't let you go through this alone. Not again at least. I couldn't help you last time."

Bianca couldn't help but smile at her friends attempt to be protective. "Maggie, you know this wasn't your fault. It was mine. How many times do I have to tell you that?" Bianca said standing to put another log on the fire.

"I know it wasn't my fault directly, but I am not so sure about indirectly."

"Maggie you were the one that saved my life. If you hadn't come home when you did..."

Maggie just nodded and closed here eyes. She saw the events play before her as she watched the flickering flame of the fire.

Maggie was searching the inside of her purse for her keys. Her feet felt swollen from the extra hours she had to work at the hospital today. As with each day that went by while she worked the Emergency room, she thanked God she had not lost anyone on her table.

"Sometimes being a Doctor is a real bitch," Maggie mumbled. She came to her door, and pulled out her key. She put it in the hole and turned the lock easily.

"Well that's a first," she smiled as she opened the door. When she entered the apartment she noticed nothing usual. The lights were all off, with the exception of the one they left on always, near the kitchen sink. She noticed Frank walking back and forth.

"Hey Frank," Maggie said picking the cat up and stroking him under his chin, "What are you doing out here?" The cat's only response was to purr. "You know Bink can't sleep without you by her side. Come on, let's take you back into Mommy huh?" Maggie said tucking the cat up under her arm.

As she approached Bianca's bedroom she heard someone whimper. At first she thought perhaps Bianca was having a bad dream. Since her fathers death they occurred often. She called out Bianca's name. Just as Maggie was about to knock lightly she heard something crash on the floor. She flung the door open and ran into the dark room flipping the light switch.

She saw Bianca lying partially on the bed, blood covering the back of her white tank top. Medical instincts kicking in, Maggie rushed to her assessing the damages. She saw a cut mark near the side of her abdomen area, as well as a good size gash on her forehead.

"Bianca?" Maggie asked, turning her small friend over. Maggie pressed fingers on Bianca's neck trying to feel for a pulse. There was a very weak one. She reached for her cell phone and dialed 911.

"Mag…Maggie," Bianca wheezed.

"The police are on their way. Who did this?" She looked around the bedroom for the first time. She saw a bloody knife lying on the floor by Bianca's side. Maggie went to pick it up, but remembered that it could be evidence. Tossing aside logic she ran into her own bedroom quickly, looking for the birthday gift to her from her cousin David last year. She found it in the nightstand drawer. Unlocking the safety, Maggie held the small 38 at her side while she ran back toward Bianca's bedroom. As she crossed the hallway she saw someone on the floor in the corner shadow. She lifted the gun in front of her.

"Who's there? Come out now!" she yelled. The figure did not move. Maggie felt her heart beat increase. She called to the figure again, but still no movement. She approached it slowly. She saw the light from Bianca's bedroom reflect off of what looked like something metallic. Maggie was certain it was a knife. The figure moved toward her, rushing. Maggie aimed and fired twice.

The figure slumped forward. Maggie approached it slowly, as she flipped on a light switch. A man, dressed in black, lay motionless. Blood was seeping from his head. Maggie moved closer and saw his open eyes, staring blankly at her. One shot hit his neck and one his head. Maggie reached in for a pulse and felt none. He was dead. She shook her head and began to sob softly. Biting her lower lip she remembered Bianca and walked quickly back into the bedroom.

She held Bianca's head in her lap and stoked her hair with her free hand. Her other hand was applied an old NYPD T-shirt to the wound. Maggie knew she was going into shock. She had to stay focused on her friend, keeping her vitals maintained till the paramedics arrived. She heard Bianca whimper again. "Shhh…Bink, you're okay. He can't hurt you." The sirens could he heard from the open window of Bianca's room. Maggie exhaled and slumped over, losing consciousness.

"Hello Maggie?" Bianca asked tapping her friends shoulder.

"Oh, sorry."

"Thought I'd lost you there for a second," Bianca said smiling.

"No. No Bink, I am not going anywhere."

"You know we are always talking about me that night Maggie. What about you? Are you okay?"

"I don't think about it often," Maggie said lying. In truth she had been plagued with nightmares since the attack took place all three months ago.

"How long have I known you Maggie?"

"Let's see, six years?" Maggie said calculating the age she was when she first came to Pine Valley in search of her sisters killer.

"So what makes you think you can lie to me and I won't know it," Bianca asked punching her arm playfully.

"Okay, yes. I think about it. I killed him Bink. I mean I look back now and wonder if I really needed to. Sure it was self-defense, but when I fired I wasn't firing because of self-defense. I fired because I was scared for me. I was scared for you," Maggie said exhaling loudly, "and I wanted to hurt him like he had hurt you."

"It just occurred to me," Bianca said looking at the dying fire, "we have never really talked about it have we?"

"No we haven't."

"Do you want too?"

"Do you?"

"Yes. I think I am ready to talk about it," Bianca said grabbing a pillow and placing it on her lap.

"If you are ready, so am I," Maggie said reassuring her friend.

Part 5

WARNING: Talk of rape and assault in this chapter. If this bothers you I advice you to just skip it and move to the next chapter.

"Yes. I think I am ready to talk about it," Bianca said grabbing a pillow and placing it on her lap.

"If you are ready, so am I," Maggie said reassuring her friend

"You go first."

"Okay. Well like I said before, when I killed him, I wanted him to hurt, Bianca. I wanted him dead. But when I looked down at him, and saw his face, his blank expressionless face I realized I had taken a life. Me! These two hands," Maggie said looking down at her hands held in fist format, "these hands that have worked for years to save lives, took one."

"I am sorry," Bianca said softly.

"But that is it Bianca. I'm not," Maggie said feeling a tear escape.

"When he grabbed me Maggie. I was so sacred. A part of me gave up. It was as if I expected to die. He dragged me into the living room and said he had been watching me," Bianca said taking a deep breath, "he said he knew you wouldn't be home, and that I was all alone. In that instant I gave up. This small part of me that wanted to fight, couldn't break free from this overshadowing part of me that was engrossed in fear. You were right what you said earlier. It is like I have given up. I felt, and I still feel ashamed."

"No one can tell you that what you felt is right or wrong Bink. But you won. You beat him. He is the one that died, not you," Maggie whispered.

"Don't you think I know that? A part of me did die that night! It's so hard. I look at you and see how you have in some part moved on. But I can't. It's like he is still here," Bianca said pointing to her scar on her forehead, "holding me back."

"All I can say is I am here. If you ever need me Bink, I am here."

"That is one of the things that gets me through the days," Bianca said smiling, "Without you and Mom, I don't know where I would be."

"Have you spoken to her recently?" Maggie asked.

"No, not since she married Chris finally got married," Bianca said looking out the window again.

"Yeah, well I like the guy. I mean sure...he's been after my family for the last five years…" Maggie said smiling. "In fact, so has your Uncle Jack too. Our families have this whole "north vs. south" thing going. You know what that makes us don't you? We're Austrailia."

Bianca couldn't help but smile. "Always looking in the good for people aren't you," Bianca said.

"Always."

The two women starred at each other. Maggie reached her hand across and placed it on Bianca's cheek, stroking it lovingly. They both heard the computer from behind beep.

"What was that?" Maggie asked.

"My computer. I have new mail," Bianca said rising to her feet. "I need to look Maggie."

"What does it say?" Maggie asked as she came up behind Bianca.

Bianca read from the mail with no emotion in her voice. "Just because you think you are safe doesn't mean you are. You won't find me, but I will find you. You will be left alone, sooner or later. This time there is nothing that bitch can do to help you. Do you remember when I had you on your bed and you cried? This time I won't try to kill you fast. I'll do it slowly. You can't keep your eyes open forever."

"Oh my God," Maggie whispered. This was by far the worst threat Bianca had received, but now it included her as well.

"You see!" Bianca said storming into her bedroom,"you aren't safe here Maggie! If you don't leave, than I will."

"Bianca," Maggie said calmly, following her friend to her bedroom, "don't you see that is what he wants. Why else would he bring me into it?"

Bianca couldn't answer Maggie's question. She knew Maggie had a good point. But she also knew that her friend was in danger by being around her, police protection or not.

"I am going to go take a bath," Bianca said grabbing a towel and walking into the bathroom. She turned around and looked at Maggie who stood there, watching her random movements.

"Bianca promise me you won't leave," Maggie asked.

"I promise I won't leave. I'll be out later. Do you need to go before I get in here?" she asked.

"No. I am fine. Try and relax, okay?" Maggie said throwing Bianca a reassuring smile.

"I will," Bianca said closing the door.

Once she heard the water coming from the bathroom, Maggie walked back into the living room and sat in front of Bianca's computer. She read the e-mail again. She went back to look over the other three e-mails that Bianca had received. She read them softly.

"I know you. I know what happened. I was there. You can't hide from me. I bet you wish you hadn't brought that knife to bed with you. How are the scars? Ready for more?" Maggie winced at the memory of Bianca's cuts. She read on, as much as it hurt.

"I know you. I know what happened. Nowhere to run Nowhere to hide. I'll be back again, very soon. Watch your back. I may be closer than you think. When I grabbed you, were you scared?" Maggie read, sighing softly. She clicked on the most recent one Bianca had gotten that morning.

"Bianca, I am impressed at your ability to heal. How are the scars? It is almost time. Have you missed me? I've missed you. I am going to enjoy watching you cry again. Keep your eyes open."

Maggie pulled out a note pad and jotted down some small notes about the mails. Perhaps there was someone else who had witnessed the crime? That would be a logical explanation as to how they knew about the details. She shut the lights off in the living room, and reenacted the events of that night. When she had come home all the lights were off, except for the kitchen one. She moved to the window and looked out. Could someone have seen through the window? Yes, they most definitely could have. Since they were on the first floor level condo, it would have been easy. She went to the door and walked outside. She climbed over the small bushes and moved quickly to her living room window and looked in.

"Son of a bitch," she whispered as she bent down and saw a foot print in the ground. She went back around to the front of the building and saw the police officer.

"Excuse me, Keith," she said, "I was wondering, did you happen to go over there, in that direction near our window?"

"No Miss I did not. Did you see someone?" he asked concerned.

"No. No I didn't," she said as she moved back into the apartment. She moved inside and plopped herself down on the couch. She went over the night of the attack again. A thought came to her. Bianca had said that the attacker knew Maggie wouldn't be home. How could he have known that? He had to have been listening to her through the window. She moved to the location of the couch and estimated the distance to the window.

"That makes sense," Maggie said softly.

"What makes sense?" Bianca asked as she walked out of the hallway area.

"Jesus Bink, make more noise next time. You scared the shit out of me."

"Sorry," Bianca said, "now what makes sense?"

"Sit down for a second Bianca."

"Okay I am sitting, now what is it that makes sense?" Bianca asked again.

"Tell me again what you remember about that night Bianca. Every detail."

"He grabbed me and brought me into the living room. He threw me into the wall where I hit my head. It is always blurry after that. I remember being taken into the bedroom. He…he…raped me. I remember him grabbing my knife. I tried to block his blow, but missed. I don't remember much after that but hearing your voice," Bianca said replaying the nightmare over in her mind.

"When I came home, the place was dark. I saw Frank walking back and forth. I came to your room and I heard something. When I went in and turned on the light I saw you on the bed. The thing that I keep running over and over in my mind is why Timmons didn't leave? He just stood there. He could have run after I found you. He could have even killed me when my back was turned. Somehow I managed to get into the bedroom, find my gun, and then find him. It doesn't make sense Bianca."

"What are you saying Maggie?" Bianca asked.

"I am saying that there was someone else in the apartment with you two that night. You saw Timmons record, all sexual assaults. He never killed before. Sure the guy was a creep, but even the police thought it was a little weird that he would suddenly turn killer," Maggie said moving into the kitchen and grabbing a glass to pour some orange juice.

"So now you think Timmons is innocent?" Bianca said feeling her anger rise.

"No I don't think he is innocent Bink. I think he is guilty in what his intentions for you were. I think someone promised Timmons something from you. I think that that someone had something else in mind for both you and Timmons. And I also think I came home early from my extra shift and ruined it."

"So Timmons wasn't the one who instigated this attack. He wasn't alone? Wouldn't the police have come up with that theory already?"

"Are you kidding, they saw his past record and assumed the worse. But isn't that why he would be perfect. No one would expect more," Maggie said.

"That means…" Bianca began to say but stopped as Maggie cut in.

"There was more then one person here that night."

"Maggie, why would someone do this?"

"I don't know Bink."

"Oh God…" Bianca ran into the bathroom. She threw up. After splashing cold water on her face, she walked back into he living room.

"Are you okay Bianca?" Maggie asked looking at her friend, concerned.

"Yeah. I just have been pretty sick lately. I feel nausea all the time," Bianca said.

"How often?" Maggie asked getting up from the couch. God No, she thought to herself. Please, No. She noticed her friends eating habits had changed, as well as her being tired. Maggie had just attributed it to stress.

"Almost every day. It's just the stress of all this stuff you know? I'll be okay," Bianca said looking at her friend's concerned face. "What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Bianca…when…when was the last time you had your period?" Maggie asked. She saw the look of panic splash across Bianca's face.

"No Maggie...I couldn't be…I mean…No…" Bianca felt her legs grow weak. She started to sob and slid down to the ground. The thought of pregnancy hadn't even entered her mind. She hadn't even considered it. Oh my God.

Part 6

Bianca lay in bed looking at the ceiling. She looked at her clock. Its digital display read 3:15 a.m. and she was certain that sleep would not find her again tonight.

Maggie had gone to the 24-hour drug store and bought a pregnancy test for Bianca. Once she returned Bianca took the test and discovered that she was in fact pregnant.

For once, she understood what her mother had been faced with. God, how would Erica react? It was all Bianca would do just to get Erica to back off of Bianca moving back in with Chris and her. Since the attack, Erica has feared for every single move Bianca made. Her only assurance with that Maggie was with Bianca most of the time.

Pregnant. Maggie told her that she still had other options. I don't think I can do that, Bianca thought. She could have the baby and then give it up? There were hundreds of families in need of children.

Then again, look at what happened to her half sister Kendall. She had been raised in an adoption family but resented it her whole life, always being made to feel different. Could Bianca do that? Would she be 100% certain that her child was with someone who would love him or her and protect him or her?

Look at Trey. He had been adopted then placed into foster care and abused his whole young life. God. She couldn't even think about it.

Sighing she knew sleep would never come to her. "Well I guess there is always naps huh Frank," Bianca said as she pets her cat's side, "then again that doesn't really work in my favor either, huh?"

She rolled out of bed and opened her door gently. She didn't want to disturb Maggie who fell asleep on the couch. Bianca approached her quietly and covered her with a small plaid blanket. She then lay next to Maggie and felt the warmth and love radiating from her friend. She felt safe and sound with Maggie around. She felt complete.

Bianca closed her eyes and made a quick prayer for her and Maggie's safety. Maggie felt Bianca on her side and slid to make more room.

"Can't sleep?" She asked her friend.

"No. I keep thinking," Bianca said softly. "I don't know what to do," she looked into Maggie's eyes. Maggie nodded her head in understanding.

"No matter what you decide, I'll support you. You know that right?" Maggie asked touching Bianca's face. She wrapped her arm around her friend and pulled her closer.

"I know."

"You don't have to make this decision tonight okay?"

"What if it looks like its father?" Bianca asked softly.

"No way. I am sure it would look just like you. Its have you're beautiful brown eyes, and your soft hair…even your warm smile," Maggie said kissing Bianca's forehead.

"If I decide to keep it. Would you…would you stay?"

"Of course I'll stay. Binks, I wouldn't leave you for that reason."

"But you will leave one day won't you?" Bianca asked looking down. "I mean one day you're going to get married, have kids, and settle down into your life."

"This is my life," Maggie said tilting Bianca's face to look at her own. Their eyes locked and both of them held their breaths. It looks could speak; they conveyed love and hopeful promises.

The knock at the door broke the mood. "I'll get it," Maggie said getting up. Bianca was left on the couch, looking confused as ever.

She'd known Maggie for six years and she'd never seen Maggie look at her like that. If Bianca hadn't known better, she could have sworn Maggie was going to kiss her.

Maggie walked back to the living room. "It was just Keith, checking in." Maggie smiled. "I think he still likes you," she laughed. She sat down next to Bianca again.

"Why don't you go lay down in bed. You need your rest," Maggie said standing and helping Bianca up.

"I..I don't want to be alone. Could you…"

"Sure Binks, no problem," Maggie said leading the way into Bianca's bedroom. The two friend lay down next to one another. Maggie protectively placed her arm around Bianca, spooning her from behind.

"Is this okay?" Maggie asked, wanting to make sure her friend had enough room and was comfortable. The bed wasn't exactly big. Her old one had been thrown away three months before.

"It's fine," Bianca said sighing softly and feeling herself drift off into sleep.

Maggie lay there, taking watch over her friend while she tried to sleep. "It's almost over," she whispered when she heard her friend whimper, most likely from a nightmare. The phone rang. It startled both of them.

"Stay there, I will get it," she told Bianca who rolled over on her side and drifted back to sleep. Maggie picked up the phone, "Hello." There was no one the other end. She repeated herself again, "Hello."

Just as she about to hang up she heard someone laugh. "Who is this?" Maggie asked angrily. Now she was getting pissed.

"You can't stop it. You can't help her. She is as good as dead."

Maggie dropped the phone and turned to face her friend. Bianca was looking at her concerned.

"It's him isn't it?" she asked.

Maggie could only nod. She picked up the phone and dialed the station.

"Detective Frye"

"Derek, this is Maggie," she said angrily.

"We are tracing it right now Maggie. We will have it in a few seconds," he said patiently. Maggie kept her eyes locked with Bianca, and waited for the answer. "It came from a payphone off of Westville and Bradford," he said.

"We are sending a car there now. I'll call you if we get any more info Maggie. Don't let Bianca out of your sight. I am sending over a few extra officers to your place. You might want to consider a new location for the next few days. Maybe you could stay at Erica's place. The security there would be better."

"Okay. Thanks," she said hanging up the phone. She picked it up again and dialed the hospital.

"Who are you calling?" Bianca asked.

"Your mom."

"Maggie. I don't want my mom…"

"Look Bianca. This isn't about being strong or independent. This is about your life, my life…and that baby's life now. You'll both be safe there with her and Chris."

"You'll come too right?" Bianca asked in fear.

"Yes. Of course."

"I can't believe this is happening. I thought it was over."

"I know this is hard. But I'm here for you. We all are."

Part 7

Alex Essties sat slumped in his chair. He was of average height, with balding black hair. His glasses sat on the table below him. He rubbed his eyes for the third time in the last twenty minutes. After a heavy sigh he looked to the two-way mirror and saw his reflection.

"Is my lawyer here yet? You did call him, right? I told you everything I know. Let me out of here now before I begin to get notions of suing for unlawful arrest!"

Derek Frye walked through the door to the holding room. He held two coffees in his hands. He sat down next to Alex and handed him a cup. "Your lawyer will be here soon Mr. Essties."

"It's about time. Jesus, you have had me here for over two hours. I am tired."

"Oh I am sure you are. But I bet you aren't as tired as poor Bianca. All those sleepless nights, fearing for her life and her friend's life. What kind of sick bastard would taunt and harass a sweet young lady like that Alex? If you ask me, sounds like this guy isn't getting any so he is looking to have his fun someplace else. What do you think?" Derek said sipping his coffee, never once taking his eyes off Alex.

"I think you ass-holes should be out there looking out for Bianca's best interest rather than harassing me in here!" Alex shouted.

"See we know you were at that store making a phone call. We have two witnesses that place you there Alex. We know that you've been employed at Enchantment Corporation now for a year and a half. We also know that you've been brought in by Christ Stamp to head up new security protocol at Mrs. Kane's place. See in my book, this gives you the means to all sorts of in and when's on Bianca's family. Now what I can't figure is the motive? Why would you do something like this? Blackmail?" Derek asked smugly. Alex just looked at him. "I can assure you Alex, we are looking out for her best interest. Your lawyer will be here soon, and we can all have a nice chat about a little something we like to call evidence."

"Sounds good," Alex said lighting up a cigarette, "after that we can talk about a little something called burden of proof," he said smiling.

Bianca rose from the guest bed with stiff shoulders and a sore back. "Too much stress," she mumbled to Maggie, who still slept beside her. The women had arrived at Erica and Chris home earlier that night.

Bianca insisted that Maggie stay with her. Erica went along with what ever Bianca wanted. She was just happy to know Bianca was safe.

"I'll go make some coffee. Are you going to call Derek?" Maggie asked rubbing her eyes and getting out of bed as well.

"Yes. I was just about to do that." Bianca picked up the business card placed on her desk top and dialed the number next to office on the small card Derek had given them.

"Detective Frye," Derek answered.

"Good morning Derek. This is Bianca."

"Good morning, Bianca. How are you doing?"

"Okay I guess, considering everything that has happened in the last two days."

"I was going to call and fill you in on the interview with Alex."

"Alex? You mean Alex from work? The Alex who works with my mom?" Bianca asked.

"Yes, they let him go this morning. We didn't have enough evidence to hold him."

"You think he has something to do with this?"

"I wouldn't say he is in the clear yet Bianca. I just said we couldn't hold him. He has a good lawyer."

"I understand" Bianca looked at Maggie who now locked eyes with her.

All Maggie could understand from the conversation was that Alex had been brought into the PD for questioning. I'm not surprised, she though to herself, she had doubts about Alex from day one. There was something about him that gave her an odd vibe.

"Now about Alex being brought in for questioning, he claims he had no involvement in this. He says that the only contact he has had with you was about," Derek paused glancing at his notes, "three weeks ago. Is that correct?"

"Yes. He called to see how I was doing. He seemed rather concerned. I am sorry Derek, I am just having a hard time believing Alex could have been involved in this." Bianca was stunned, for lack of better word. Alex was her friend and co-worker. Could he really be involved in this?

"90% of victims know their attacker Bianca. That is a pretty high number. I am not taking any chances. He is free now. But the minute we got something more solid, I'll be bringing him back in for further questioning.

"I understand. Is there anything else you need from me right now?"

"No that should be fine for now. I'll call you when we hear something new."

"Thanks Derek." Bianca said hanging up the phone. She looked at Maggie who sat quietly on the couch waiting to here the news. "Which do you want to hear first?"

"Alex."

"Okay they let him go early this morning. He had a lawyer and everything. Derek says they will keeping an eye on him. When or if they find something more solid they will be bringing him back in."

"When or if? Something more solid?" Maggie said repeating Bianca's last comments. "What the hell do they want a freaking confession? They should have had enough to hold him."

"Well apparently not," Bianca said feeling both fear and joy coursed through her.

"Does your mom know?" Maggie asked looking toward the door.

"No. God Maggie, she is going to freak out. She'll blame herself. I know her. I don't know what to do?" Bianca felt tears surface.

"Shhh…"Maggie said walking to her friend. She pulled her close and hugged her. "It's okay Binks. We'll take this one step at a time okay?" Maggie said pulling away softly.

"I don't know what I'd do without you," Bianca said kissing her cheek.

"I hope you never have to find out," Maggie said as she led Bianca to the door and Erica herself.

Part 8

Erica sat in silence as Bianca went over the newsest information they had. Maggie sat next to Bianca, holding her hand the whole time.

"I'll kill him," Erica said standing.

"Mom, wait a minute." Bianca said standing as well and following her mother as she moved about the room. "They don't even know for sure," Bianca said trying to assure her mother.

"Bianca this man…I knew something was wrong with him. I just knew it. But no…Chris wanted to bring him on, bring him into our home. How could this happen!" Erica was now getting more anxious. She stopped her rant and looked at Bianca. "I'm sorry…I'm here for you now Bianca. Please tell me what I can do to help?"

"You're doing enough. Letting Maggie and I stay here is wonderful," Bianca said turning back and smiling at Maggie.

"Well of course you're welcome here. Both of you are…this is your home girls," Erica said walking over and sitting next to Maggie. "You've been the rock for her I couldn't be Maggie. Thank you."

Since Maggie had saved Bianca's life, or at least that's how Bianca and Erica saw it, she had become an official member of the family. Prior to Bianca's attack, Maggie always felt Erica hadn't fully accepted her for some reason. Probably Frankie, Maggie had thought.

"Erica, Bianca's my best friend. I'd do anything for her," Maggie said softly.

A door opened and Chris entered in a huff. "I just heard what happened. Bianca…I can't express to you…" Chris was walking toward Bianca.

"You don't have to say it Chris. It wasn't your fault. It wasn't Mom's fault. It wasn't Maggie's fault. No one is at fault for what happened to me," Bianca said hugging him.

The room fell silent. Bianca felt a wave of nausea hit her again. "Excuse me," she rushed out and ran for the bathroom. Maggie was on her feet and after her friend. She helped Bianca out in the only way one could, she held her hair back and rubbed her back.

Bianca wiped her mouth and rinsed her mouth with water. She looked in the mirror. "I'm so pale," she said softly looking at Maggie's reflection.

"Are you going to tell them?" Maggie asked concerned.

"Tell them what?"

"About your baby?"

"Baby! What!" Erica said standing by the door with her hand on the handle. Bianca looked to Maggie who wished she could remove the foot from her mouth.

"Oh God, I'm sorry," she said before leaving mother and daughter alone in the bathroom.

Part 9

Maggie sat in the room she and Bianca now shared while staying at Erica and Chris' home. She thought back to the times when things were more simple. God, how she wished she could go back to those days. Maggie remembered the first time she bought a new car. She was doing pre-med work at PVH. She and Bianca decided to go for a drive. They packed a cooler and an over night bag and hit the road. No sooner then they were on the road for half an hour then Maggie scanned through the radio stations. She took her fingers off the button and glanced at Bianca smiling evilly.

"What?" Bianca asked as she figured out what Maggie had done."God Maggie! Not country music. Please! How about the oldies station? We can compromise can't we? Come on," Bianca whined.

"Sorry, I just need to get my country fix," she yelled, "Yea-haw!"

"God you are strange!" Bianca laughed while turning to look out the window.

"True, but you are my friend. So what does that say for you?"

"Good point. Good point indeed."

"Closed argument. Country music it is."

"Great" Bianca smiled and mumbled.

"Man you are such a baby!" Maggie teased.

"Only you would spend an extra $340 on a car to get a CD player installed, and not use the damn thing," Bianca said laughing and pointing to the nice new CD player.

"Only you would think of that come back." Maggie said poking her friend in the arm.

Ahhh yes- the simpler times. Maggie walked to the window and looked out. It looked like rain was coming. Leaning against its side, she kept replaying the conversation she had with Bianca from the day before.

Would she ever leave? Her answer was true and honest. She'd never leave Bianca. The thought had not even crossed her mind. No. She had always planned to live her life out beside Bianca…but what about Bianca? What if Bianca had met someone and wanted to move on with her life? Maggie had not considered that aspect of it at all.

Both girls had dated since in their times together. But no one serious ever came along. Usually it was a few dinner dates and nothing else. Most of her physical closeness had been with Bianca. Maggie hadn't really considered this till just then.

What about Bianca? Had she been intimate with other women since their times together? She never really talked about that aspect of her life much, dating woman and such, Maggie thought Bianca believed Maggie was uncomfortable with the whole topic. But that was far from the truth. She tried initiating conversation with the woman, but never got more then a few one-word answers. Maggie felt a ping of jealousy run through her.

Bianca was having this baby now. Things were going to change. Even if she didn't keep the child, things were going to change. Bianca and Maggie both knew it.

The light knock at the door broke Maggie's concentration. "Come in," she said turning around. Chris Stamp walked through the door.

"Hi Maggie," he said closing it behind him.

"Hey, what's up?" Maggie asked.

"Bianca. Is she? I mean I couldn't help but hear Erica shout, but…she's pregnant?" Chris asked softly.

Maggie wasn't sure if it was her place or not to be having this conversation with Chris. But he looked concerned and knowing Bianca and Erica…. they'd be in that bathroom for sometime.

"Yeah. She's pregnant."

Chris sat down on the bed and closed his eyes. Over the last years he had come to think of Bianca has his own daughter, just as he saw Ryan as his son.

"What's she…. I mean…um, is she going to keep it or…" Chris asked slowly looking down at his feet.

"She has not decided yet, but I'm pretty sure she'll be keeping it. Beyond that I don't know."

"How are you doing with this?" he asked looking up at her.

"Me? I'm fine. I'm mostly worried about Bink you know?"

"Yeah, I know. I just meant, how is this affecting your relationship?" Chris asked.

Relationship? Doesn't he mean friendship? Maggie saw his face. Oh no- he meant relationship. Everyone assumed it, why shouldn't Chris.

"It's fine Chris. We're okay," Maggie said smiling.

"Erica and I are here for you both, you know that right?"

"Thanks Chris."

Chris stood up off the bed and walked to her, hugging her.

"It's okay Maggie, you don't have to pretend around me."

"Pretend?" Maggie asked pulling back slightly and looking at Chris.

"That you're not in love with her." He said softly and sincerely.

Maggie was about to deny her love for Bianca again to the thousandth person for the thousandth time. But she didn't say a word. She just lowered her head. She felt her bottom lip start to quiver slightly and for the first time in months, she started to cry. Chris pulled her close to him again. "It's okay darling, you go ahead and cry. You go ahead and cry," he said softly.

Part 10

Alex Essties walked into his house. He took off his jacket and tossed it on the living room table. He was tired, and hungry. Moving to the bedroom he began to undress. Before he ate and slept he knew he needed a shower. Things got so messed up. The plan had been broken. If Chris Stamp and his FBI team weren't going to get him, then his boss would. The phone rang and broke his train of thought.

"Hello?" he answered.

"Alex. It would appear as though we may need to speed this up." The voice said.

"Speed it up? Why? I just spent the last eight hours sitting with two detectives who are planning my next 20-50 years of life. This is bullshit. You said no one would ever be able to track anything back to me."

"What are you talking about?" came the patient voice.

"The cops are checking into that stupid phone trace, plus they know about my involvement with Chris and Erica's security team. It's only a matter of time before it comes back to me. No one would remember a punk like Timmons that's what you said. All I wanted was the money."

"And you'll have it soon enough Alex. Just relax. We are almost there. It's taken us too much time and effort for you to walk away and back out."

"What do you have planned?"

"She's at her mothers house."

"Why?" Alex asked somewhat concerned.

"The codes. I'll need them. Do you have them? I'll take care of everything else."

"Yeah, I keep them in my desk. They're under prod…" Alex was cut off.

"Alex did you didn't say anything to the police did you?"

"No. I'm not stupid."

"Of course you aren't. That was silly of me to ask. Alex one last thing before I let you go…"

"What?" Alex asked as he turned around facing a figure dressed in black holding a small cell phone. They reached out quickly and injected Alex with a needle.

"You son of…" Alex began to say as he fell forward grabbing his chest.

"Shhh," they said lowering Alex to the ground.

Alex moved his mouth, trying to speak but no words came out.

"I know. I know. I had to change the plans though Alex. I knew you wouldn't understand. You getting caught, that wasn't part of the plan. Bianca has to die for me to get what I want, for me to get what is rightfully mine. Chris, Erica and Maggie will do anything I want then…they'll all be to busy grieving to realize what's been under them all along. It's nothing personal against Bianca…it's just that she's always been a thorn in my side, you know? Plus destroying Erica would be a honor…and killing her precious Bianca would do just that. Okay…you're right, it is personal."

Part 11

Bianca and Erica sat and talked. They sat and talked and shared things like they had never done before in their life.

"Bianca, are you sure this is what you want?" Erica asked still uncertain her daughter was making the right choice.

"For now, yes. I know that's not an option. If I decide to give it up, they will be a family who needs and deserves them. I'll be sure of it. I'll make sure they go into a good home with people who want them and love them."

"Sometimes that's not enough, look at Kendall."

"Kendall is just unhappy mom. It doesn't matter if she was with us or if you had given her up. She'll always find something to be miserable about."

"What about Maggie?" Erica asked with soft eyes and a heavy heart.

"Maggie supports any decision I make Mom, you know that?" Bianca said reaching out for her mother's hand.

"So she'll be accepting of this baby into your family if you should decide to keep it?" Erica asked. "Yes."

"Okay then. I have just one favor to ask of you then," Erica said fighting her grip on her daughter's hands.

"Sure mom. What is it?"

"Promise me that you'll always come to me with anything. You can tell me anything, ask me anything…no matter what it is."

Bianca smiled and sighed heavily. There was that one thing…

"What is it Bianca?"

"Maggie."

"What about her?"

"What's going to happen when she leaves me and gets her own life?" Bianca felt her heart constrict at the thought of Maggie with someone else.

"Are the two of you…having troubles?"

"No," Bianca said confused.

"You haven't…broken up?"

"Broken up? Mom! Maggie and I are not dating. I don't know how many times I have to tell you that," Bianca said frustrated.

"Bianca, I'm sorry. I just thought…you were protecting me or something. I mean…I didn't mean to upset you. I just see the way the two of you act. I mean everyone sees it. I assumed you were…"

"Well don't assume mom." Bianca said standing.

"Okay. I'm sorry." Erica said feeling guilty.

"No. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have snapped like that. I didn't mean it. It's just hormones or something I'm sure."

Erica hugged her daughter. "Bianca. DO you love her?"

"Of course."

"As more then a friend, Bianca. Do you love her as you would a lover?"

"I…" Bianca hung her head. She swallowed hard and looked into her mother's eyes. "Yes. I do."

"Then tell her, Bianca. Trust me. Tell her."

Part 12

"Detective Frye," Derek said answering the phone at his desk.

"Sir this is Keith," the young officer said identifying himself.

"Anything to report?"

"Yes sir. It's been quiet here at Estes place. In fact a little too quiet, we haven't seen any movement since this morning."

"No movement at all?"

"No sir. We were wondering what we should do?"

"It's time to pay Mr. Essties a polite little visit I think."

"Yes sir," Keith said as he hung up the cell phone.

Keith came to the front door and knocked three times. He heard no answer. He identified himself and knocked again. He went around to the back and glanced through the windows. There was no sign of Alex anywhere. As he was circling back something from the garage caught his attention. He saw Alex hanging from the garage door motor system.

"Shit," he mumbled opening the door to the garage. It took only a second for him to realize that Essties was dead, and had been that way for several hours. He reached for the cell phone and dialed the Detective again.

"Detective Frye."

"Sir, this is Keith. You'd better call homicide and get down here. Mr. Essties is dead."

"What?" Derek said in disbelief.

"He's dead sir. It appears as though he hung himself in the garage.

"I'll be right there. Don't touch anything." House said as he picked up his jacket and ran for the door.

Maggie and Bianca sat on the porch talking when they heard the phone ring from inside. Chris came to the top of the stairs and called for Bianca. Bianca looked at her watch and glanced back to Maggie."Who on earth would be calling me now?" she said walking into the kitchen and picking up the phone. "Hello?"

"Bianca, this is Derek."

"Oh hi Derek. What is going on?"

"It's Alex."

"What is it? Did they arrest him again?" Bianca asked concerned. She saw Maggie, Chris, and Erica come in the back kitchen door and glance at the called ID box on the counter next to the phone. Maggie's expression turned deadly serious when she recognized the number.

"Bianca I am sorry to have to tell you this, Alex was found dead this evening in his home. We aren't sure but it appears as though the time of death was about nine this morning. Not to long after he was released from here."

"Oh God," Bianca said sitting on the kitchen table chair.

"What is it?" Erica asked.

"It's Alex. He is dead," Bianca said lowering the phone.

"Bianca there is more," Derek said trying to get her attention.

"What else?"

"It was a suicide. We are still waiting the forensics final report."

"I can't believe this."

"So for now, looks like it's finally over."

"Over?" Bianca asked in slight disbelief.

"Over." Detective Frye said again, finalizing.

"Thank you Derek," Bianca said softly hanging up the phone.

She looked at Maggie. "It's over!" she said hugging her friend. She pulled away then hugged her mother and Chris.

"Thank God," Erica said crying.

"Oh I just feel like I've had this huge weight lifted off my shoulders," Bianca said sighing.

"It's over," Maggie said locking eyes with Bianca noticing the small blush in her cheek. She leaned forward and hugged her friend again. Erica and Chris looked at each other and decided to leave the two girls alone.

13

Bianca had drifted off to sleep on the porch. Maggie reached over and turned the volume on the radio down. Bianca stirred and opened her eyes. She reached her hands above her head and stretched. She then cranked her neck to the left and right.

"You shouldn't do that. As your doctor, I'd say it's very bad for you. As your friend…it's gross." Maggie said smiling.

"How do you do that?"

"What?" Maggie asked.

"Managed to make me laugh like you do."

"A gift."

"Maggie can I ask you something?" Bianca asked suddenly sounding very serious.

"Sure. What's up?"

"Do you think Alex is guilty? I need to know."

"It doesn't matter what I think Bianca. What matters is what the police find."

"It matters to me Maggie. Do you think he had something to do with this?"

"Honestly?"

"Honestly," Bianca replied.

"Yes I do. I just think that there is too much working against him. Do I want to believe it? No. Certainly not. That would mean we were all fooled by him. Even the great Erica Kane. "

"When Derek told me that Alex was let go because they didn't have enough to hold him I was both sacred and relieved you know? Part of me didn't wanted to believe someone I knew and thought of as a friend could do something like this to us."

"Bianca, try and relax okay? This is supposed to be a get away. Alex can't hurt us anymore," Maggie said taking her hand reassuringly.

"I guess your right."

"Of course I am right. How long have you know me? When am I ever wrong?"

Bianca looked at Maggie and dramatically rolled her eyes. "Please!" She laughed.

"Okay so I am wrong sometimes, but not when it matter," Maggie smiled.

"Girls! Dinner underway," they heard Chris yell from downstairs.

"Thank God, I'm starving," Maggie said laughing.

"Tell me about it. I'm eating for two now," Bianca said getting up.

"Just you wait till the weird food cravings come."

The girls made their way downstairs. "Well I guess we'd better make dinner for them. What do you think?" Chris asked Erica. Erica, who felt relieved that her daughter was now safe smiled at Chris.

"I think that we should light up the BBQ and give the girls their favorite," Erica said smiling.

"Steaks," Maggie ginned.

"Steaks," Erica repeated.

"You want to make the corn?" Chris asked Maggie and Bianca.

"Sure. Just don't burn the steaks okay?" Bianca said trying to smile.

She remembered the first time she and Maggie came to dinner when Chris and Erica had bought the new house. He was so nervous he burnt all of their steaks.

"I'll never live that down will I?' he asked playfully.

"Oh I don't think so."

Bianca and her mother laughed as they looked through old picture albums. Their dinner finished, the four of them sat in the living room sipping the last of their wine from dinner.

"And look at this one," Erica said pushing the picture album toward Maggie and Chris.

"Oh my!" Maggie laughed seeing Bianca covered head to toe in chocolate sauce.

"Mom, no more pictures please!" Bianca laughed finishing off glass of water. Although a red wine would be nice and relax her, she knew alcohol was out of the picture.

"Oh just one more. Look here Chris and Maggie. This is when Bianca and her Daddy decided to go fishing. Bianca threw up all over her Travis once he showed her how to hook the poor worm. She cried for hours," Erica said laughing and wiping away a tear.

"Oh brother," Bianca said shaking her head and turning red.

"Now Bink how come you never told me that story? I thought friends were supposed to know everything about each other," Maggie teased.

"Yes well, not everything," Bianca smiled.

"Oh my, what a fun evening this has been. I can't thank you girls enough for staying." Erica said taking hold of Chris's hand and kissing it.

"Well I don't know about you all, but I am exhausted. I think I am going to turn in for the night," Maggie said standing slowly. She felt a little tipsy from the wine. Bianca chuckled at her friend lack in equilibrium. Maggie wasn't a drinker. "Hush you."

"I think I am going to turn in too," Erica said hugging both girls. She looked to Chris who smiled and stood as well.

"Looks like I'm the only night owl of the group I guess," Bianca said laughing.

Everyone exited for their rooms. Bianca and Maggie went to the left side of the house and Erica and Chris went to the right side of the house. The girls quickly got into bed. Maggie let out a heavy sigh. Thank God the day was over.

"You're families great you know that?" Maggie said turning on her side and looking down at Bianca who lay on her back.

"So is yours," Bianca smiled.

"No. I don't think so. You and your mom have a connection Bianca," Maggie said. She thought back to her own mother. She never had the chance to develop any type of relationship. Part of her had always wished for the same closeness Bianca and Erica shared.

"She thinks the world of you, you know that don't you?" Bianca asked Maggie. Maggie only smiled. She knew.

"Looks like things might actually start getting normal for us again huh?" Maggie smiled. She hadn't thought about her words, and hadn't given the baby a thought. "I'm sorry Bink, I didn't mean…I just meant…"

"It's okay," Bianca smiled. "I know what you meant."

"Change is a good thing. This baby is going to change us," Maggie smiled.

Looking back she's not sure if it was the wine or just the ease she felt around Bianca but she slowy took her left hand which had been resting at her side and placed it so softly above Bianca's belly area. Bianca felt a shock run though her. Maggie's hands were warm, and soft. "A baby Bink, we're gonna have a baby," she said smiling. She let her hand trace warm circle around Bianca's belly. Bianca did the only thing she could think of, she closed her eyes and smiled.

"Maggie?" Bianca asked.

"Yeah?"

"Do you think I'm pretty?" Bianca asked looking up into Maggie's eyes.

Maggie couldn't answer right away. She simply studied Bianca's face. For her own part, Maggie knew what Bianca was thinking and going through. She had learned about some of this in pre-med. When a woman becomes pregnant, her hormones run high making her sensitive to things. It makes her think, and worry more then usual.

"Of course I think you're pretty. I think you're beautiful," Maggie said removing her hand from Bianca's belly and touching her cheek softly, "don't ever doubt that."

"Maybe now, but who's going to want me when I'm huge from this baby and carrying a full load? Who's going to want to be with me when I am a mom?" Bianca said looking away from Maggie.

"Bink, why are you thinking like that?" Maggie asked. "And what do you mean when you're a mom? Does that mean you've decided to keep the baby?" Maggie asked.

"I have."

"Bink, that's great!" Maggie said excitedly. She leaned down and kissed Bianca. It was a kiss of celebration, and a kiss of love…but it slowly turned into a kiss of things to come…a declaration of a life together.

"Wow."

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have" Maggie said pulling back.

"Don't be sorry Maggie, I'm not," Bianca said so softly it was barely above a whisper.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have" Maggie said pulling back.

"Don't be sorry Maggie, I'm not," Bianca said so softly it was barely above a whisper.

"What are you saying?" Maggie asked slightly caught off guard from Bianca's reaction.

"I'm saying I'm not sorry. I'm saying…I love you Maggie. I should have said a long time ago."

"Love me? How long?" Maggie asked in disbelief.

"When did I first know you mean?" Bianca asked. Maggie nodded her head. Words were failing her at that exact moment. "I knew when you took me swimming all those years ago. Remember that night before my first day of work at Enchantment? I knew you completed me. I knew I had to have you in my life. I never thought I could have you the way I wanted it to be…so I've been content and happy with what we've had. But that kiss…I don't think I can have a kiss like that and not want more Maggie," Bianca said reaching up and touching her cheek.

"Eggs and toast," Maggie said.

"What?"

"Eggs and toast. It was over breakfast one day. I was looking at the paper and I glanced over to you at the table. You were working on some files or something. You had this crumb on the side of your face and all I could think about was how cute you looked. I remember feeling my heartbeat race out of control because it had dawned on me in that moment that I loved you. I loved you as more then a friend, more then a roommate. I wanted to be with you," Maggie said leaning down and kissing Bianca again.

Bianca moaned softly into Maggie's mouth. Maggie wrapped her leg around Bianca's waist, slowly positioning herself on top of her younger friend.

"I do," she breathed heavily into Bianca's ear while kissing her neck.

"You do what?" Bianca asked feeling dizzy from the urges flowing through her whole body.

"I'll want you when you're thinking you're at your worst from this baby. I want to be the one who reminds you how beautiful you look, how you're glowing. I want you when you're a mother with a kid, I'll take care of you and love you for the rest of your life," Maggie said moving lower, lifting up Bianca's shift.

"God Maggie, I've been waiting years for you to say that," Bianca breathed out as she moaned louder, feeling Maggie make contact with one of her nipples.

"God, I've been thinking about this moment for so long," Maggie said in-between kisses and caressed.

"I know, me too," Bianca said smiling and pulling Maggie back up to her. Maggie wasn't sure why Bianca had pulled her away from her destination point. Then it dawned on her. Her scars.

Maggie pulled away. Was Bianca embarrassed? Did she think Maggie would be disgusted? As is, Bianca hardly ever showed her scars. Maggie slowly broke eye contact with Bianca and kissed her way to the scar.

She looked back at Bianca again, making a point for the young woman to see her. Maggie kissed Bianca's scars sweetly. Bianca felt a tear creep out, and Maggie slowly kissed her way back up to her lover's lips.

Bianca pulled Maggie's shirt over her head and sat up, with Maggie partially on her knees. Bianca kissed down Maggie's own neckline and made her way to her breast.

"God Bink, I love you so much," Maggie said her heart racing out of control.

The moment was perfect enough for them. Five years of lust, love, hormones, and private fantasies surfaced. There was no doubt left behind, no second guesses. Each of them knew what they wanted from the other. Just as everything in their life, they understood what the other wanted and needed.

After hours of lovemaking, and tender kisses, the two women drifted off to sleep in each other's arms…. unaware of the danger just outside their walls.

Maggie woke first that morning to the sun shinning through the bedroom window and the beautiful Bianca by her side. She reached over and kissed her forehead. Bianca slowly opened her eyes. "Hey cutie," Maggie said smiling.

"Hey," Bianca smiled back.

"You certainly have a glow to you this morning," Maggie said. "That baby is making a nice impression already."

"OH no, I don't think it's the baby," Bianca smiled. "I think it has something to do with the four orgasms I had last night."

"God Bink!" Maggie said blushing.

"What? I'm just being honest," Bianca winked.

"Yeah well, you weren't so bad yourself," Maggie winked back. She went to get out of bed.

"Running so soon?"

"Yeah. I need to get out before this rain storm comes this afternoon. Besides, I could use a good run work out that pent of frustration you know?" Maggie said pulling her running sneakers on.

"Oh come on Maggie, you could work it out other ways," Bianca said smiling evilly.

"God, you're awful! I love it!" She hopped on to the bed and kissed Bianca. "I'll be home soon. I love you."

"Love you too," Bianca said.

(15/?)

When Bianca made their way downstairs to the kitchen she found Chris and her mom sitting at the table eating breakfast. She sat down next to her mother as Chris poured her a cup of coffee.

"Thanks Chris," Bianca said picking up her cup.

"Where's Maggie?" Erica asked.

"She went out early this morning running"

"Leave it to Maggie to go running." Erica said.

"Running is one of the best means of exercise Erica," Chris said biting into toast.

"She's been trying to get me to go with her since college. I don't think so," Bianca said smiling. She glanced around the kitchen and wondered when Maggie would be back?

"Look now that I have you both here, I think there is something I need to talk with you about. I've been giving this a lot of thought. I'm going to keep the baby. I hope I'll have both of your support," Bianca said softly.

"Of course you will," Chris said looking at Bianca. Ryan and Kendall had not had children yet, so this would be his first. Regardless of who the Childs father was, or how it was conceived…this baby was innocent and deserved no ill will feelings.

"Yes Dear, of course we will," Erica said also.

Maggie reached her runners high about fifteen minutes earlier. She stopped at a 24-hour quick mart and grabbed a local paper. Running back to Bianca's house, Maggie noticed the parked black Lincoln across the street. She crossed and ran to the two uniformed officers who had been exiting the car.

"Morning Miss...?" The first man left the lingering question in the air as he lowered his sunglasses.

"Stone. Maggie Stone. And you are?" Maggie asked wiping sweat from her forehead.

"The names Mark. This is Sam." Mark said pointing to his partner.

"Pleasure to meet you. I take it Detective Frye called?"

"Yes Miss. Detective Frye informed us on what is going on. There isn't anything to worry about Miss. We're just here as a precaution."

"Oh I'm not worried. It's just that Bianca has been sick, so I wouldn't want anything to upset her. As her Doctor I feel keeping her stress level down would be in everyone's best interest. Can you keep a low profile?"

"Yes miss. We'll keep a low profile." Sam said speaking for the first time.

"I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks for your help."

"Just doing our job Miss."

"Yes I know," Maggie said smiling while she ran back across the street. She walked through the back door and found Bianca, Chris, and Erica sitting at the table.

"How was your run?" Bianca asked.

"Fine. How are you doing?"

"Okay. I told them about my decision to keep the baby." Bianca motioned for Maggie to have a seat. Grabbing a cup of coffee Maggie plopped down next to Chris.

"How are you feeling this morning?" Maggie asked Bianca.

"Better. No morning sickness yet. But you're the Doctor so you know best," Bianca said smiling warmly.

"I'm feeling a bit left out. Are you saying I had nothing to do with you feeling better?" Erica asked in a dramatic voice. Chris laughed loudly. Maggie smiled and made eye contact with Bianca who seemed off in her own little world.

Bianca and her Mother sat in the living room. Erica exhaled and ran over all the possible ways to tell her only child that she was going to support her no matter what.

"It's okay Mom," Bianca said softly placing her head on Erica's shoulder.

"You know?"

"Yes."

"Did Maggie talk you into keeping the baby or are you choosing this for your self..." Erica asked.

"No she didn't say anything. It was more a feeling than anything." Bianca answered softly, taking her mothers hand in her own.

"I'm worried about you sweetie."

"Me? I'll be fine. After all I've got you and Chris…and Maggie." The double meaning was lost on Erica at first.

"What is going on?" Erica asked raising an eyebrow slightly and tilting her head to the side.

"Nothing I can't handle Mom. Don't you worry about it."

"You and Maggie…did you? You know…"

Bianca only smiled.

"Oh my!"

Part16

"Are you okay with this mom?" Bianca asked. It didn't matter how old she got, she still needed her mother's approval on some level.

"Of course I am. Don't be silly," Erica said. She'd had enough time to get ready for this moment…the moment her daughter decided who it was she wanted to spend her life with. Though, she couldn't lie, a small part of her she kept hidden away and locked safe out of her daughters view still secretly wished it might be a man who could take care of her, and look out for her.

Bianca got a far of look in her eyes.

"You're thinking about your father." It was more a statement than a question.

"Yes. I miss him."

"I know. Me too." Erica said sighing softly. Though there had been many men in her life, Travis would always hold a place near and dear to her heart.

"I think Dad would really have liked Maggie," Bianca said looking off in the distance.

"He does. I'm sure of it," Erica said taking hold of Bianca's hand. "Honey if you're happy in your life, I've come to learn that is all I can really hope for. I love you and will be here, no matter what. Okay than how about we go upstairs and change. We can go out to the garden and plant some new flowers Chris just bought me."

"Sure sounds good." Bianca said helping her mother up. She was a bit shocked that her mother was the gardening type. But Bianca had noticed one thing…over the years, she noticed her mother had turned more and more into her Grandmother. As they walked past the living room window, she noticed the parked black Lincoln outside.

"You told her didn't you," Chris said smiling as he and Maggie sat outside on the porch.

Maggie only smiled and looked down to the ground. "I think it's great Maggie. I'm so happy for you two. I've been rooting for you guys all along."

"I know." Maggie smiled.

"So the cars outside…they there because of Derek or because of you?" Maggie asked softly and seriously.

"Both actually," Chris said. "I failed Bianca once by brining this maniac into our lives. I'm not going to do it again. I'm investigating further into the case."

"Why?" Maggie asked suddenly very interested.

"Let's just call it a hunch," Chris said looking over to the car parked across the street.

"Keep me posted, okay?" Maggie stated.

"I will."

Bianca walked out to the porch with Erica in tow. "There you two are," Erica said smiling as she had Chris lead her down the porch steps. Maggie stood up and smiled at Bianca.

"I keep thinking about last night," Maggie said softly.

"I know me too," Bianca smiled.

"Bink, I was wondering once this is all settled and everything is over with...well...umm...would you like to get together. Maybe a dinner?"

Maggie stammered. She cursed herself mentally. She sounded like a god damn teenager. It's not like she hasn't had dinner with Bianca hundreds of times, why should this be different?

"Are you asking me out on a date Maggie Stone?" Bianca said giggling.

"Yes I am. If that is okay with you?"

"Throw a movie in with that dinner and you got yourself a date."

"Movie and dinner it is. Soon?" Maggie said leaving the last part open.

"Hopefully sooner than later." With that Bianca leaned forward and kissed Maggie's cheek

"Let's go for a walk. I feel like moving. I know I can't get you to run. I saw a park about a mile back. You up to it?" Maggie asked smiling

"Sure. Let me go grab a sweater. The temp drops kind of quick. You want anything?" Bianca asked strolling back to the house.

"No I'm fine." Maggie went and sat on the swing. Her thoughts drifted back to the events of the last few days. God…I can't believe where we're at, this is so amazing, Maggie thought.

"Don't be gone to long. I'll have dinner ready by six. Okay?" Chris said from the garden where he and Erica were.

"Yes Dad," Maggie said teasingly.

"Thanks dear," Chris replied smirking.

Maggie and Bianca walked across the street to the unmarked car. Bianca handed each officer a cup of black coffee.

"I didn't know if you guys liked anything in it. So I just figured I'd go with black."

The two officers smiled and took the coffee. "This is great Ms. Montgomery. Thank you very much," Mark said sipping slowly.

"Oh call me Bianca please."

"Okay Bianca. Thanks."

"Have you heard anything new from Detective Frye?" Maggie asked.

"No Miss. Nothing new. I am sure he will call us as soon as he gets something," Sam answered.

"No harm in checking I guess. We just wanted to let you guys know we are going for a walk to the park about a mile down the road. We'll be back before dark."

"Perhaps we should go with you," Sam said taking off his black ray bans.

"We'll be okay. We'll only be gone a minute. Besides I would feel safer if you were watching the house," Bianca answered him.

"Well have a nice walk then. If you aren't back within an hour or so we will be going out to look for you."

"Message received loud and clear," Maggie said beginning to walk away. She was glad to have the officers there for protection. Another small part of her was annoyed that every move she or Bianca made was being watched. A chill ran down her back when she thought of whom else could be watching.

"Hey wait up, would you speedy!" Bianca shouted and she ran up behind Maggie. "You are acting weird. What's wrong?"

"Aside from the Mob Squad, nothing."

"They aren't that young."

"Bianca, I could have delivered one of them."

"You're just looking for things to complain about now. What is really wrong? The park is this way," Bianca said as she pointed Maggie in the correct direction of the park.

"I already told you nothing is wrong."

"And I told you that you can't lie to me. Stop trying. You read like a book Maggie. Do you want to leave? Is that it?"

"No! Not at all. Do you want me to leave?"

"No. I just thought that maybe you are unhappy being here. I know you have a life of your own." Maggie just rolled her eyes. She stopped walking and turned around to face Bianca.

"You're my life Bink." Maggie leaned forward and captured Bianca's soft lips with her own. "So soft," Maggie whispered pulling away.

"I love you Maggie," Bianca smiled taking her hand and continuing their walk.

Detective Frye at his desk. He was looking at paper work, but his thoughts took him someplace else. The phone rang and he snapped out of the trance.

"Frye."

"Hey Frye, this is Scullen over in homicide."

"Hey Scullen any word yet?"

"Yes I just got the report back. They found traces of Frezcella in Mr. Essties blood. Looks like you were right on about that. Corner is most certain that it was injected."

"Is there any other way of receiving this?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean this Frezcella stuff, is injection the only way you get it in your system?" Frye said glancing through his notes.

"Most people receive it in the form of a shot. But it does start out as a power substance. I guess ingestion is another way."

"Wonderful." Derek said sarcastically.

He thanked Scullen for the update and hung up the phone. He dialed the number of another Detective. Derek asked him to get in touch with all local hospitals to find out if any of them had reported missing bottles or dosages of this damn drug called Frezcella. The one man he believed could lead him to a nice place to start this investigation now laid dead in the basement of the hospital.

"Someone killed him, and I've got a bad feeling they're going to finish the job with Bianca," Derek said frustrated and picking up the phone again.

Part 17

Chris, Erica, Maggie and Bianca sat around the table having usual after dinner conversation.

The lights to the house went out. "What the hell?" Chris said standing.

"Chris, what's going on?" Erica asked scared.

"Must have blown a fuse. Hold tight. I'll go check it out," Chris said standing up and finding a flashlight in the drawer in the kitchen.

"I'll go with you?" Erica said following him out of the room.

Bianca's heard the phone started ringing. She answered it. "Get out of the house," the voice said calmly at first. It then repeated itself, this time a bit more nervous. Bianca didn't even say a word she just hung up the phone and looked at Maggie terrified.

"What is it?" Maggie asked.

"It was…someone on the phone, they say to get out of the house," Bianca said standing up. "Mom! Chris!" she called out. There was no answer. She repeated herself louder this time. Still nothing.

Maggie grabbed a knife from the top drawer and told Bianca to stay behind her.

"That's far enough," a voice said from the hall. It wasn't male though. It was female. "Mom?" Bianca called out.

"No, not mom," the voice said. The light flicked and came back on. "Just me. Your friendly neighborhood psycho."

"Oh my God. You're dead!" Maggie shouted to her Aunt Vanessa who had supposedly died three years ago.

"Well no thanks to your friends here my Dear. I mean honestly, who taught you about family values. Shacking up with the family who set out to destroy me and mine. Honestly," Vanessa said in her typical upstaging sarcastic snotty tone.

She began to move forward to the girls. Maggie held the knife up higher. "You're not coming near us Vanessa," Maggie said sternly.

"Oh my my my. Looky here, someone's got a backbone I see? Well good for you, standing up for the woman you love. I'm impressed, really I am. Touched even. Your sister, she was the same way. But we know how that ended though don't we?"

"Shut up! Shut your mouth!" Maggie screamed.

"Now dear, calm down, you're making yourself all upset."

"Where's my mom and Chris?" Bianca asked, breaking her silence.

"Mom and Chris? Mom and Chris? Oh yes…they're…well lets just say they are indisposed at the moment. I have one of my men taking care of the situation as we speak."

"Don't look so shocked my dear," Vanessa said gently, "I'm not."

Maggie now noticed for the first time that Vanessa was now holding a small gun. She swallowed hard.

"What are you going to do?"

"Well I certainly can't shoot you right here. That would be messy. Besides as much as I would hate to admit it, I very much dislike the idea of having to hurt you. After all your blood. Now, Bianca…you're another story. I would get nothing but pleasure out of disposing you, your mother, and wicked stepfather."

"Why me?"

"I guess it is like they say, if you want something done right, you need to do it yourself."

"It was you all along?"

"Smart girl. Timmon's got out of control. What a little hormonal bastard he was. He didn't stick to the plan either. Just wanted to screw her. I guess I can't blame him. She is rather beautiful, like her mother." Vanessa said.

"Shut up!" Maggie screamed at Vanessa again.

"Why?" Bianca said softly.

"Why do it? Money. Revenge. All the above. Who knows. The mind of the crazy is tricky to understand."

"You're sick!" Maggie shouted.

"True I am very sick. See I thought I could wait a bit, and try killing the little bitch again later. You know, make Bianca just another random act of violence.

"So you killed your partner? Alex was working with you?" Bianca asked in disbelief.

"Sure. Everyone has a partner. You should know that."

Vanessa removed a long, thing red cloth and threw it at Bianca. "Gag her," she said pointing to Maggie. Bianca shook her head no. "Oh I'm sorry. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Gag her now or die?"

"Do it," Maggie said looking at Bianca pleadingly. Bianca did as she was told.

She then tossed a gag to Maggie. "Likewise please," she said pointing to Bianca.

"Vanessa don't do this, please," Maggie mumbled.

"Now would not be the best of times to piss me off Maggie." Vanessa pushed Bianca into Maggie and raised the gun. "Are our nice officers sleeping? It was delicious coffee wasn't it? A touch of sleepy time and they're out like babies." Vanessa said she tied both girls hands up.

Vanessa led the girls out to the car. Maggie and Bianca got into the back seat. Vanessa drove.

"Now what?" A mumbling Maggie asked.

"Now you die." Vanessa said.

"You can't just kill us?" Bianca mumbled. She managed to pull the gag down.

"Oh how the town will be grief stricken when the hear of the tragic accident. A fire from a circuit breaker caught the great Erica's house on fire killing both her and her husband."

"No! You can't, please!"

"Oh I can…and in about 20 minutes I do…" Vanessa said looking at her watch. "But nothing will be worse then the tragic accident the two of you will meet tonight."

"Accident?" Bianca said locking eyes with Maggie.

"Oh yes…a car jacking. Most likely done by that awful stalker. Sadly you both got shot." Vanessa replied.

Part 18

Vanessa saw Maggie struggling with her ties as she drove her car out of the town limits. She was heading up to the mountain area. David had a cabin up there, with a fireplace. She knew she could easily burn what little evidence was left. Both girls had managed to get the gags out of their mouths at this time.

"Please Vanessa, don't do this." Bianca pleaded with the woman who appeared dead inside.

"Keep your mouth shut," Vanessa said and locked eyes with Maggie. "Don't try anything stupid Maggie or I'll kill her."

"You're going to do that any way aren't you?"

"Good point. Let me try this again. I'll kill you first. You'll die never knowing what became of your love. Did she suffer? Did she cry? Was it quick?"

"I get your fucking point," Maggie said cutting her off.

"Watch your tones Ms. Stone."

"Bianca?" Maggie said softly. Bianca looked at Maggie and found her eyes full of tears, "I'm sorry you had to be involved in this. I'm so sorry."

"How touching." Vanessa laughed again.

"Maggie don't say that. We'll get through this I promise you. How long have I known you?" Bianca asked.

"A long time," Maggie smiled.

"Am I lying?"

"No you aren't."

"Enough!" Vanessa screamed. "See that road up ahead? We're pulling off this street and on to that."

Derek drove as fast as his Corolla would carry him. The Captain of the East-Loudon district police department assured Derek that they had all available cars on the look out for the suspect's car. Derek had made his way to Erica's before any fire broke out. He found Chris and Erica both in the basement tied. Chris was unconscious and Erica was gagged.

Derek couldn't shake the bad feeling he carried inside him no matter how hard he tried. A call came in over the radio.

"Come in Detective Frye. Over."

"This is Frye. Over."

"Sir East Loudon just informed us that they spotted the Cherokee up on the north side of route 95. They are doing a silent pursuit. Over," said the dispatch officer.

"That is the best news I have heard all day. How is Chris?"

"Sir he's been checked. He appears all right. Same with his wife."

"Well that's two…give me three…"

Maggie noticed that a car had been following them for the past four miles or so. Her gut told her it may be the police but she did not want to get her hopes up.

"What are you looking at?" Vanessa asked nervously.

"Nothing," Maggie lied.

"We're almost there."

"Almost where?" Bianca asked.

"The last place you will see. Does that answer your question?" Vanessa replied, brushing the hair away from her cheek. Vanessa pulled the car over. She watched the car that had been following them continuing to drive by. She order the girls out of the car.

"Can I say goodbye at least?" Maggie asked Vanessa.

"Yes." Vanessa answered dramatically.

Maggie and Bianca faced each other. She leaned in and hugged her. Tilting her head she whispered "No matter what happens…remember I love you Bianca. I'm sorry it took so long, and we wasted so much time," She kissed her lips softly, and in the softest of voices said. "Just run if you get the chance." Maggie went to pull away but Bianca would not let go. She pulled back a bit harder and looked down at her friend for the last time.

Bianca knew the time had come. Vanessa grabbed Bianca by the arms and pushed her toward the car, but stopped. "I think you should see this," she smiled, "it's about family." Vanessa turned around to the left and fired once.

Bianca screamed.

Part 19

"NO!" Bianca shrieked as she saw Vanessa turn and point her gun toward Maggie. Bianca ran toward Maggie but Vanessa stopped her for the briefest of moments. Maggie fell forward holding her chest, her face white.

"Maggie?" Bianca whispered as she crawled toward her fallen friend. Maggie was now the one who could not speak. "What should I do Maggie?" Blood was seeping through Bianca's fingers, which now tried applying pressure to the wound.

"I need you to tell me what to do…please…I don't know…Maggie, wake up!"

"What the hell?" Vanessa said bitterly. She saw flashing lights ahead of them. Vanessa's panicked voice caught her attention. Bianca bit her lower lip. It was now or never.

"What are you going to do run? It's over Vanessa. Just turn yourself in."

"I won't go down that easy. At least with a hostage I can get out of the country."

"You've seen too many movies Vanessa. End it here!"

"Get up!" Vanessa screamed as she grabbed Bianca's hair forcefully.

The scene before them looked like something you would see on TV. Two helicopters flew above their heads. There were dozens of police cars with uniformed officers pointing guns. Vanessa looked to the left and right.

"Put your hands up. You're surrounded. Let the girl go," a voice rang out over a megaphone.

"If I die, I am taking you with me Bianca," Vanessa said kissing her cheek.

"She isn't going anywhere you bitch!" Vanessa turned around and saw Maggie leaning weakly against the car swinging a large tree branch toward her head.

Bianca took advantage of Vanessa's shocked state and elbowed her as she plunged toward the side. For Bianca, everything happened in slow motion, including her screams for help as she moved toward Maggie's body, which now lay next to an unconscious Vanessa. Within a matter of seconds Police officers surrounded the two young women, and wounded criminal.

"Bianca?" Maggie said breathing hard. Her eyes felt heavy.

"I'm here," Bianca said holding her friend's hand as paramedics tried to Assess her damages.

"Told you…alright," Maggie smiled. Bianca back a cry and smiled.

"You sure did. How long have you known me Maggie?" Maggie couldn't answer she just squeezed Bianca's hand. "You're going to be okay. You've got to be."

"Maggie, Bianca?" A distraught voice from the front of a line called out. Derek Frye ran toward them. "Oh God. Are you okay?"

"I've been shot Derek. How do you think I am?" Maggie smiled and closed her eyes clearly in pain.

"You're the Doctor Maggie."

"Slipped my mind."

"Try to remember that in the future, okay?" Derek said touching her shoulder.

"Ten -four sir." Maggie said. She was silent for a moment. She released Bianca's hand and began to convulse.

"What's wrong with her?" Bianca shouted.

"Shit, she's crashing. It must have hit an artery," the first paramedic shouted.

"Call Central, tell them to get an OR ready stat" the second paramedic said to the driver of the ambulance. They loaded Maggie in the back. Bianca began to get in. "I'm sorry Miss. Civilians are not allowed to ride with us."

"I'm not leaving her," Bianca shouted.

"Bianca come on, I'll give you a ride. Let them do what they have to," Derek said putting his arm around her shoulder.

"She can't die Derek. She just can't."

"I know Bianca. Come on. Let's follow them."

"So much has happened in the last few weeks. I don't know where to begin?" Bianca said sighing, "I guess I can start from the beginning. Vanessa is in jail. They are holding her on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, and two cases of assaults, fraud, and two murder one charge's." Bianca sniffled and wiped her eyes for the hundredth time that day.

"I brought you tulips. The trail will be starting soon I am sure. Having to relive this nightmare all over again is something I am not looking forward too. It's bad enough I've already done it once. I don't know if I can do it again." Bianca felt her stomach and rubbed its swollen area. "Five months…can you believe it? It's a girl too! I'm sure you can guess what her name is going to be." She said sighing and smiling slightly.

"There is a part of me that wishes you were here for this. And there is another part of me that knows you are." Bianca kneeled in front of the gray stone and traced her fingers around the last name. 'STONE'

"I'm going to be okay. If that is one thing I learned from you, it was how to believe in myself…how to be strong. I guess I just wanted you to know I love you." Bianca stood and placed the flowers down on the ground. She looked up to the sky. It was a clear blue and the white clouds looked like small balls of cotton.

Bianca felt a hand snake around her shoulder. She didn't need to look to know it was Maggie. "You okay?" Maggie asked evenly.

"I miss her."

"I know. So do I."

Maggie placed a dozen roses on the ground next to the tulips with right arm. Her left hand was still in a sling from the shoulder and chest wound.

"How are you doing?" Bianca asked when she noticed Maggie wince in pain.

"Great. Nothing a little TLR can't fix," Maggie smiled and kissed Bianca softly on the lips. "Oh before I forget, I've got something for you," Maggie said.

"What?" Bianca asked.

"Well…being here with you is always something I've treasured. Coming here, so see Frankie…she is the reason we came to be on so many different levels, you know? And I think it's important for her to be a part of this too," Maggie said pulling out a small box. "My sister loved you Bianca. I don't doubt that. You made her a better person. And in loving her, you also loved me. You've changed me in so many ways. You're my anchor. I love you so much. And today, here…with Frankie looking down on us, I'd like to give this to you," Maggie opened the box.

It was a small cute diamond ring. "I know it's small, but it's all I can afford right now," she smiled slightly. Bianca was lost for words. She began crying and fell into Maggie's embrace.

"Oh Maggie, this is amazing…thank you."

"Does that mean yes?"

"Oh God yes…Always."

"Always."
