Clear baby-blue eyes, flawless skin and features, silky red hair... Her hair was a little longer than he was used to, that was the only thing that was different and the only thing he wasn’t used to. He guessed that in some ways, it reflected her new attitude towards life - an attitude he could tell had changed since reading her letters. Instead of being short and ‘sensible’, it was long, wavy and...wild. She was also wearing a snug blue top and a short blue skirt to match. The outfit wasn’t something he’d expect her to wear and it showed off her slender figure and feminine curves - something he wasn’t used to. Her clothes were also not made of the same material she’d had a fondness for before she’d left. They were made of a material much, much lighter than the material her business suits were made out of. Fox Mulder watched her longingly and took a deep breath before working his courage to go over and talk to her. ~X~X~X~X~X~X~X~X~X~X~X~X~X~X~X Dana Scully sipped her drink. It felt strange, she hadn’t seen him or been in D.C for just over three months yet his voice and Washington D.C seemed so familiar. She sat at the bar, nervously playing with her glass. He said he’d there. He had sounded pleased when she’d told him she was in town and he had been the one to suggest they meet up that evening in the bar. Scully took another sip of her drink and shifted uncomfortably. She was well-aware she was being watched by many male admirers - many of them who probably had respective wives and lovers. She jumped when she felt a pair of strong hands grip her shoulders. Turning, she found herself gazing into lovely warm, hazel eyes. The warmth in his eyes was matched by the warmth in his boyish grin - a grin that made her heart begin to race. He was exactly how she remembered him - even his light brown hair was the same length. She felt her cheeks grow warm as she felt herself longing to wrap her slender arms around his neck and have his strong arms hold her in a safe and loving embrace. “ Hello, Stranger,” she smiled shyly and he pulled her to her feet, hugging her close. “ Hey,” he greeted her. He kissed her cheek and they sat down at a quiet table in the corner once he’d bought them a round of drinks. “ I almost didn’t recognize you.” “ I do look a little..different, I guess,” she admitted. “ So, how are you?” “ I’m okay. And you?” He looked around them and turned back to her with an arched eyebrow. “ You seem to be the center of attention in here.” “ I’m fine. Nervous but that’s kind of stupid,” she smiled in spite of herself, taking a sip of her drink. “ You’re sure you’re alright meeting me here? You seem kind of tense.” “ Yeah, I’m fine meeting you here. I’m just tense because of all the attention you’re getting,” he confessed. “ I guess I’m a little nervous too but we haven’t seen each other in ages and considering our goodbye at the airport, it’s understandable.” Their ‘goodbye at the airport’ was only made a special goodbye because Mulder had finally done something they’d both been longing for for a long time - he kissed her. Neither regretted the kiss, they just regretted that it had happened when she was actually leaving and at the airport. They both knew that it should have happened sooner and if it had, she would never have left. “ So how long are you here?” Mulder asked, breaking through Scully’s thoughts of the kiss that had plagued her dreams as well as his since it had happened. “ A while,” she answered, sounding a little coy. “ I’m actually thinking of moving back home, my Mom’s not coping too well with me being in a different state,” she explained. “ But I’ve still got to find a job and an apartment and all of that kind of thing.” “ You’re really staying?” He pressed, hoping to hide the hopeful expression from her. “ Not disappointed, I hope?” She asked, nodding to answer his question. “ Not at all! Actually, I was thinking you could get your old job back,” he murmured, allowing his pleasure to show in his expression and tone. “ Then you and I can be together again. Like we were before.” “ Before you kissed me?” She asked curiously. “ Before you left,” he amended, covering the hand that wasn’t holding her drink with his own. “ I...I don’t want to forget, I don’t want things to go back to the way they were before that.” “ Honestly?” She tried to keep a hopeful note from her voice. “ Honestly. I’ve spent the last three months thinking of you and only you. Ask Skinner or your Mom if you don’t believe me.” Seeing her expression of confusion, he continued. “ Skinner knows because my work’s been admittedly terrible. Your Mom knows because we’ve been keeping in touch so we could talk about how much we missed you.” “ I..Really?” She pulled a face. “ I’ve missed you a lot, Dana. Seriously, honestly, truthfully. I promise I’m not just saying that.” He vowed. “ I have missed you, a lot.” “ I’m glad. I’ve missed you too,” she smiled sweetly. “ Now where do we go from here?” “ We go to my apartment after we’ve finished our drinks and we make up for lost time,” he grinned back, taking her hand and finishing his drink in one gulp. “ And then, in the morning, we get you your old job back and find somewhere to live. Either for both of us or just you if you think I’m going too fast for you.” The last bit made her laugh. “ Too fast? I’ve been waiting for this for six or more years and you’re worried about me thinking we’re going too fast?” “ I guess it’s a bit stupid,” Mulder laughed and stood, pulling her to her feet and leading her out of the bar. As soon as they were outside, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her passionately, hungrily, as she wrapped her arms around his neck, keeping the contact. When they finally broke apart, both breathless and lightheaded, Scully smiled seductively. “ I love you, Fox Mulder,” she murmured. “ I love you too,” he responded. “ Promise me something.” “ Anything, within reason,” she added teasingly. “ Promise me you’ll never leave me.” “ I’m not going anywhere you aren’t, Mulder. Ever. I promise,” she vowed. Mulder’s grin showed his approval and he kissed her lightly on the lips before they got into his car and drove off. Scully watched him as he drove, knowing with certainty that all of the dreams she had of them being together were about to come true. The End.
