Iced Earth is an American power/epic band created by guitarist Jon Schaffer. Iced Earth is one of the biggest, and most influential bands in the metal scene today. Iced Earth sounds like a mixture of Iron Maiden, and old Metallica, with the vocals of the Halford-like Matthew Barlow. Iced Earth has created their own epic sound of metal. An epic sound that is clearly among the best, if not the best metal ever. The non-epic Iced Earth songs, which many times sound like thrash Iron Maiden, are in my opinion not of the same standard of their epics like Dantes Inferno. Many times one hears a rather easy riff which is used throughout the song. All Iced Earth songs have wonderful lyrics, full of interesting thoughts and themes. Iced Earth’s greatest strength, lies in Jon Schaffer’s god-like rhythm guitar, that is so fast and pounding, one believes that the world is going to end. Matthew Barlow’s singing is also some of the very best in metal. On songs like Holy Martyr, one can feel the depth and emotion, Barlow’s voice brings.
