Week of July 3, 2000
Nicole and Austin are in the park and she is about to tell him about her dad when Rex shows up. She introduces him as a Titan employee. Austin leaves them to talk and Rex tells her that he knows that she is Misty Circle. He promises not to tell anyone if they hook-up, but Nicole turns him down and tells him that she will tell Victor about him. This gets him to leave her alone. Eric has some flashbacks of Nicole, ends up at the pub and is joined by Austin. They discuss Nicole and Eric pretends like he doesn’t care about her. Eric later decides to investigate.

John visits Hope and she is really happy to see him and she hugs him. He gets weirded out when she says that they have a special bond, but continues to say that it is because of what Stefano has done to them both. She wants to know what happened to her in the past year, but he urges her to forget about it and move on. John gets ready to leave and she tells him that next to Bo, she trusts him more than anyone. At the penthouse Marlena is on the balcony gasping and moaning about the letter. She calls someone to take over her patients. John comes home and she tells him that the letter is from Bill and there are all of these sick people down in Africa and she wants to go down and help. John understands and gives her an early birthday present – a heart necklace with a J on one side and an M on the other.

Kate and Lucas do a lot of moaning and groaning about their problems lately. It’s not really anything important, they are both worried about their personal lives and worried that Sami will find out the truth. Victor speaks with his lawyer and tells him the wedding is off. Gene (the lawyer) speaks highly of Kate, but Vic doesn’t want to hear it. His mind is made up.

Sami is handing out drinks at the strip club and has a whole bunch of dollars in her cleavage. Brandon talks with the owner of the club and finds out that Angela something-or-other got kicked out of the country because of drugs and is now living in Paris. Another waitress confirms this story. Brandon wants Sami to fly to Paris with him. She is worried about her job and being away from Will. They go back home and change into normal clothes. They go to the Blue Note to talk and John and Marlena spot them but S&B don’t see them. Marlena thinks that they look like a couple.

The week starts out with Shawn at the pub. He thinks something is up with Chloe, while Philip says he knows nothing about it. Shawn threatens Jason and tells him he better not mess with Chloe. Jan and Jason want to fill Philip in on the plan for the LBD but Philip wants no part of it. Shawn overhears them talking and tells them that they better not mess things up for Chloe. Shawn informs them that he is taking Belle and Mimi to the dance and Jan has some smart a$$ comments about it. Shawn leaves, and so does Philip and Jason tells Jan to go get ready for the dance while he gets ready for their little *surprise*. Mimi shows up at Belle’s house a complete mess with dirt all over her. Belle questions her but Mimi makes up some lame excuse that Belle buys. Mimi and Belle get ready for the dance in Belle’s room, and Belle tries to question Mimi about what’s going on but nothing is accomplished. Mimi says that she hears something bad is getting planned for Chloe at the dance, and this upsets Belle. Mimi thanks Belle for being such a good pal and doing all of this for her (like getting her a dress for the LBD). Later Shawn comes to pick up the girls and the three are off for the dance. At the Wesley’s, Craig stops Chloe from calling Philip to cancel their date. He gives her a pep talk and then Philip shows up to pick up Chloe. Chloe panics because she isn’t ready so she goes off to get ready for the dance. Craig talks with Philip and gets him a bit uneasy, pretending to be the protective father-figure. Chloe comes down in a black shroud and Philip isn’t that pleased, and Nancy is either. Chloe assures Nancy that she knows what she is doing and the two leave for the dance. Nancy tells Craig that they are now chaperoning the dance because they want to make sure Chloe is okay. P&C are in the limo on the way to the dance and Philip is not happy. Chloe keeps the shroud over her head. Philip and Chloe get to the dance and he convinces her to at least take off her glasses. They walk in and everyone starts chanting “Ghoul Girl, Ghoul Girl, Ghoul Girl” over and over again. Philip is kind of embarrassed but Chloe just takes it. Nancy wants to rush up and help her, but Craig tells her to let her handle it herself. Chloe asks Philip to take off her cape and he just figures that there is more of that ugly black underneath, but when he takes it off he reveals this beautiful girl in this form-fitting, short, low-cut, red dress. Everyone is shocked at how beautiful Chloe is, especially Philip! She lets her long, beautiful wavy locks down and people start whistling. Nancy is so happy for her daughter. A few other boys ask Chloe to dance, but she tells him that she is with Phil and they continue to dance slowly. J&J are mad and Jan wants to cancel their plans, but Jason says no. P&C dance and Belle comes over and says that she is the only girl to get a standing ovation at a dance. Chloe and Belle get some fresh air and Philip gets some punch. Belle overhears Mimi making a call for drugs, but Mimi covers it up and says they are for her brother b/c he is really sick. Nancy bugs Chloe and Chloe tells her to butt out. Craig arrives and gets Chloe to smile and Nancy feels bad because she isn’t in-tune with her daughter like Craig is. Shawn keeps and eye on J&J because he knows they are up to something. Chloe returns and Philip tells her that she looks perfect. Shawn also tells her that he knew she was special even before she reviled this side of her tonight. This makes Chloe smile and Belle is jealous in the background. Shawn finds out the J&J are planning something so they go to investigate. Mimi is all upset because she is getting left out. P&C slow dance to “I Need You” by Leann Rhimes and circle all around the dance floor while everyone watches. Philip and Chloe are dancing closely with him behind and he snuggles up to her, and even twirls her. Some classmate tells Mimi that P&C are sure to be king and queen.

The teen scene for this week starts out with Shawn and Philip playing that crazy video/computer game at Shawn’s house. The whole tournament is close – either one of them could be the one who asks Chloe to the dance. Jason and Jan are there to watch the match. Jason and Jan ask Shawn if there is any alcohol in the house (the mention the fact that his family owns an Irish pub) but Shawn says they can’t have any because he doesn’t want to violate his dad’s trust. Bo comes in and complains about the mess they made – the whole family room is cluttered with their trash, including popcorn on the floor. Bo is just upset because of the baby. The kids get back to the game, and Shawn loses this one. At the high school, Belle runs into Mimi and questions her on her recent odd behavior. The two go at it and Mimi brings up the fact that Belle is spending so much time with Chloe. These gals just can’t seem to get along. Chloe meets up with Shawn at the school and she kinda makes a fool out of herself talking about nursery rhymes. She thinks Shawn is going to ask her to dance and gets nervous. They discuss Mimi’s odd behavior, and (like always) they bicker back and forth. Chloe spots Mimi outside and wants to make a deal with her. She says that she will stay away from Belle if Mimi will go get help for whatever problems she is going through. Mimi doesn’t want to hear it and gets all pissy with Chloe. Chloe sees Philip and the two talk. She spots a dead bird on the ground and the two bury it in the ground together. Philip again takes off her glasses. These two obviously like each other. Mimi later meets up with some teenage thugs and they tell her that they have a way she can get money. She goes up with them to their apartment and the thugs allude to her that they are drug dealers. She tells them she doesn’t want to get involved with that, and they tell her to get the heck out of there. She says that from now on she doesn’t know who they are, she never saw them and doesn’t know anything. Mimi rushes out of there, but the two thugs say that she will be back. Belle and Chloe are walking around Salem Place window shopping and talking about the dance. Belle finally gets Chloe to agree that they will all go to the dance in a big group – unless either one of them gets asked by someone. All the teens are at dot.com watching the big tournament between Philip and Shawn. It’s an important one because it is the deciding game. Belle and Chloe walk into dot.com and Belle comments that the stupid game is the only thing on their minds. John comes clean, says he doesn't want Hope to have any memories because he fears it might be too traumatic for her. Stefano tells Rolf that for the time being, Hope must have no idea that Bo isn't the father of her baby. Rolf doubts Hope will remember, but there is one more thing they can do to prevent her memory... they'll need to get her into the lab so they can scan her microchip. The only problem is that they can't examine her while she's pregnant because it could put the baby at risk. All they can do is wait and hope.

Bo rushes Hope to the hospital, where she is examined. She's completely relieved when she learns that she isn't going into labor. She's just having Braxton-Hicks contractions. Bo pretends to be happy, but we get the feeling a part of him can't stop thinking about much easier the future would be if something had happened to the baby. Lexie prepares Hope for the amnio. Once they get the results back, all the questions about her baby will be answered. Meanwhile, Bo tells John that he's got to find a way to get a DNA sample from Stefano. He prays to god that the baby's DNA doesn't match DiMera's. And if it doesn't, Bo's going to have to start searching for any other potential father. Lexie calls Stefano with news that Hope is in the hospital... But she and the baby are fine. Lexie goes on to say that Hope even agreed to have the amnio today. Stefano privately panics and later orders rolf to get to the hospital ASAP. He's got to get that amnio fluid. Bo is by Hope's side as she gets the ultrasound and amnio. So far, everything seems to be alright. Dr. Bader gives the amnio fluid to a nurse. Rolf overhears her tell the nurse the baby's sex. Stefano isn't giving up that easily, though. He knows he's got to repair the damage. Meanwhile, Hope gets a disturbing feeling that Shawn is in trouble. Hope is frantic. Her gut tells her that Shawn-D is in terrible danger. She miraculously lifts a heavy object and hurls it at the window, but it doesn't budge. Hope breaks down in tears, and Stefano can't help but feel sorry for her. He holds her and tells her to control herself. Hope manages to push her way out of Stefano's arms, but in doing so she knocks the transmitter to the floor and it breaks into several pieces.

Rolf and Bart end their pursuit of John. They've decided to go on to Plan B. Rolf slips into clerical garb and tells Bart he's going to monitor the situation at the church. They've got to get the chip from John's neck before midnight. Shawn and Bo bond over coffee at the Java Cafe. Shawn admits that he hasn't been very understanding and supportive of his mother. And he'd like to talk to her before the wedding. Bo thinks this is a great idea and commends his son's maturity. Later, Doug and Julie move up and voice their concern about Hope. They think something is very wrong. "Hope" starts the day with Lili and Greta preparing for the ceremony. Greta is concerned that her mother isn't going to successfully pull off the Hope act, but Lili assures her everything's going to go off without a hitch. Later, Marlena shows up and confronts "Hope." She is not going to let "Hope" marry Bo. As the women argue, Greta and Shawn overhear. "Hope" throws Marlena out, and Greta goes to her mother. But she gets the surprise of her life when "Hope" shows her a pistol she has hidden beneath her dress. Unfortunately, it appears there's little anyone can do to stop the wedding of Bo and "Hope." The ceremony gets under way and, much to many attendees dismay, "Hope" walks down the aisle. As this is happening, John is plagued by a shocking memory of kissing "Hope" on the submarine. Disguised Rolf, hidden in the back, notices John's strong reaction and aims his gun. The guests head to the Penthouse Grill after Bo and "Hope's" wedding. John tells Marlena that during the ceremony he was having strange thoughts. He wonders if he ever gave her any sort of clue that would indicate where he was during the time he was missing in Hawaii. Marlena pales and says if John wants answers, perhaps he should aim his questions at "Hope". As Bo and "Hope" greet their guests, we get the feeling "Hope" is a nervous wreck. She excuses herself and calls Kurt to check on everything. Little does she know, Shawn is eavesdropping on her conversation. Later, Shawn enlists in Belle's help to find out who his mom was just on the phone with. Meanwhile, as Bo and "Hope" dance, Bo is privately wondering if the woman he just married is Hope. The wedding reception is in full swing, and it proves to be an event the people of Salem won't soon forget. John continues having memories of his time with "Hope" on the submarine, but knows he can't possibly let Marlena find out. Meanwhile, Eric confronts Greta. He thinks she's hiding something from him, but she denies. In counterpoint, Shawn overhears "Hope" tell Lili that things aren't going as she'd planned. Bo is still having doubts. Lili advises "Hope" to divorce Bo and move back to Europe with Greta. "Hope" realizes that is her only choice. Just as she's about to leave, Shawn confronts her. She convinces him to join her on the terrace so they can speak in private. But Shawn gets the surprise of his life when "Hope" pulls out a gun and orders him to jump off the ledge. "Hope" holds the gun on Marlena and orders her to jump, but Marlena refuses. All of a sudden, John emerges. He tries to gently convince "Hope" to drop the gun, but she won't. She aims at Marlena and fires. Marlena collapses to the ground. Bo bursts in and lunges for "Hope." They struggle with the gun until it goes off. "Hope" has been hit, and it doesn't look good. Meanwhile, Shawn is barely alive, lying on a ledge beneath the terrace. Belle finds him, but he's out of reach. Not only that, Shawn is going in and out of consciousness, coming dangerously close to falling off the edge.
