DVD #8A 8/23 At the hospital, Elizabeth tended to Lulu's basic medical needs as Laura entered Lulu's room. Elizabeth took Laura into the hall to tell her that Lulu was stable, but her liver function continued to decline. However, the doctors were waiting for more test results. Elizabeth stressed that Laura had been smart to transfer Lulu to the hospital, where Lulu could be surrounded by people who loved her.
Elizabeth and Laura sat down to chat. Laura admitted that she'd never given up hope that Lulu would one day wake. Laura said people looked at her like it was hopeless whenever she mentioned Lulu's name, but Laura refused to give up. "My daughter is a fighter. She's in there, and she's trying to come back. We need to give her every opportunity to do that," Laura said.
A short time later, Elizabeth was working at the nurses' station when Maxie arrived, looking for an update on Lulu. Elizabeth told Maxie the doctors were running tests, but there was no real news yet. Elizabeth encouraged Maxie to sit with Lulu and talk to her.
In the hallway, Elizabeth informed Laura that Lucky had once told her about Lulu suffering from aplastic anemia as a toddler. "He told me how strong you were for her and how you never gave up on her. Well, she needs that strength now." Elizabeth said. Laura commented that she missed Lucky and wished she knew where he was.
In an undisclosed location, guards shoved a mysterious figure covered in a burlap hood and wearing ankle chains into a small, prison-like room. A guard soon appeared and removed the sack from the mystery man's head, revealing that the man was Lucky.
8/26 At an undisclosed location, Lucky was handcuffed and held captive in a small cell. After a guard removed the sack from Lucky’s head, another guard entered and approached Lucky. The lead guard began to question Lucky about the guards that Lucky had neutralized before being captured. He questioned Lucky’s skill because none had been killed. Lucky admitted that it wouldn’t have been a good look if he’d killed his “future co-workers.” “I hear your boss pays well. I’ve just proven that I can hold my own. Any questions?” Lucky asked.
The lead guard demanded to know who Lucky was. “Just call me Lucky,” Lucky said. Unimpressed, the lead guard resumed his interrogation. When Lucky painted himself as a man willing to do anything for the right price, the lead guard instructed his partner to fetch the doctor. Lucky assumed the doctor would tend to the wound on his arm, so he asked if he’d been hired. “Not yet,” the lead guard cryptically replied. Moments later, a man was shoved into the cell.
The lead guard handed Lucky a gun and ordered Lucky to shoot the doctor. The doctor’s eyes rounded with alarm as Lucky took aim and fired. However, the gun was not loaded. Satisfied, the guard took the gun and confirmed that Lucky had passed the test. After the two guards left, Lucky started to say something to the doctor, but the doctor punched Lucky. Isaiah was furious that Lucky had fired the gun, but Lucky assured his friend that he'd known that gun hadn’t been loaded based on the weapon’s weight.
“It was a judgment call, and I was right,” Lucky said. Reluctantly, Isaiah began to treat Lucky’s wound, but he wasn’t happy that Lucky had mounted a rescue. Isaiah insisted that he’d had things under control, but Lucky was skeptical. Frustrated, Isaiah asked if Lucky had a plan, but Lucky was forced to admit that he didn’t. Isaiah warned Lucky that escape was impossible, but Lucky knew better because Lucky’s father had taught him that there was always a way out.
In Portia’s office, Laura was seated next to Elizabeth as Portia and Dr. Conlon explained that Lulu had developed medical cirrhosis of the liver. Portia added that cirrhosis was the buildup of scar tissue on the liver, which affected the liver’s ability to filter toxins. Dr. Conlon revealed that Lulu’s medical records indicated that Lulu had been on the same medications for nearly four years, which had likely caused Lulu’s liver failure. Dr. Conlon promised to do everything possible to help Lulu.
After Dr. Conlon was called away, Laura asked how the doctors at Silver Waters had missed it. Portia explained that Lulu’s condition had masked the symptoms, which had included a loss of appetite, fatigue, abdominal pain, and itchy skin. Elizabeth assured Laura that they would be able to treat those issues. Portia agreed. “Those are symptoms. What about a cure? How do you save my daughter’s life?” Laura asked Portia.
A few minutes later, Laura and Elizabeth walked up. Laura told Dante and Sam about Lulu’s diagnosis and revealed that Lulu would need a liver transplant. Elizabeth explained that the transplant would be relatively easy, but they would need to find a suitable donor. Elizabeth filled them in on the process of transplanting a portion of a liver from a living donor, and the lobe’s capacity to regenerate and grow into a fully functioning liver. Dante assured Laura that he and Rocco would get tested, and Sam offered to be tested, as well.
Laura intended to ask all of Lulu’s family members to be tested, but she acknowledged that Lulu’s best chance at avoiding rejection was if the donation was from a close relative. “Like a brother,” Dante realized. Dante suspected that a full sibling would be best. Laura agreed, but she admitted that she had no idea where Lucky was. However, Laura intended to go to Flatland Prison to ask Nikolas to be tested. Laura revealed that she hoped to persuade the prison warden to transfer Nikolas to General Hospital for the procedure.
Moments later, Portia walked up with good news. Portia explained that she had talked to the doctor at Flatland Prison, and Nikolas could be tested in the infirmary. Laura was pleased because time was of the essence. After Portia left, Dante squeezed Laura’s hand and assured her that Lulu would be okay.
8/28 Somewhere in East Africa, Isaiah was escorted into a tent where Lucky rested on a cot. After the guard left, Lucky stood up. “Did it work?” he asked. Isaiah smiled. “We’re getting out of here today,” Isaiah said. According to Isaiah, “Sidwell” had been complaining of stomach pains, which Isaiah attributed to indigestion. However, Isaiah had convinced Sidwell that it required further testing, so Sidwell intended to send Isaiah to get the specialized medical equipment. Lucky was pleased because it would work to their advantage.
After Lucky retrieved his gun, he reminded Isaiah to wait for the signal. When the guard returned, Lucky started to follow the men out, but the guard stopped him. “Just the doctor. You’re staying,” the guard said. Isaiah insisted that Lucky was needed for protection. The guard was waylaid when his radio began to crackle. After the guard left to check things out, Isaiah looked at Lucky with alarm.
“What the hell are we going to do now?” Isaiah asked. Lucky handed Isaiah the gun and advised Isaiah to disarm the guard and make a break for the airfield, where Lucky’s contact would meet up with Isaiah. Isaiah refused to leave Lucky behind, but Lucky instructed Isaiah to fly to the United States and reach out to the WSB for help.
Just then, Robert called Laura to filled her in on what he had uncovered from the WSB. Robert revealed that Lucky had been participating in humanitarian efforts and had saved several doctors and patients in areas under siege. “That’s my boy,” Laura said with pride. According to Robert, several months earlier, Lucky’s organization had relocated to a safer part of the world, and Lucky had been headed to a refugee camp in East Africa. Robert explained that it was difficult to monitor the camp because it was constantly in flux.
8/30 In Africa, Lucky was escorted into a prison cell and manhandled by goons. A man who appeared to be in charge arrived and asked how long Lucky had been working with "the doctor." The man let Lucky know that Isaiah had escaped, but the man knew someone who could help track Isaiah down. "I want him here to watch me kill you," the man said.
The man told Lucky he knew Lucky was only there to save his friend, but Lucky argued that he wanted to work with his captor because his captor had money—and humanitarian aid work didn't pay much. Lucky suggested he and Sidwell play cards to kill some time, so a poker game began. Sidwell asked Lucky about his wife and children, so Lucky admitted that he preferred to be on his own.
Meanwhile, Isaiah arrived at the Port Charles airport, unaware that he was being watched.
9/4 Near the Somalian border, Lucky was escorted into a cell where a poker table had been set up. Sidwell instructed the guard to remove Lucky’s handcuffs. After Lucky was seated, Sidwell set a deck of cards on the table and invited Lucky to deal. The two men discussed the stakes of the game. Lucky proposed being let free if he won, but Sidwell chuckled. “How about if you win, you stay alive,” Sidwell offered.
As the game began, Lucky struck up a conversation with Sidwell. Sidwell shared that he suffered from insomnia because of an “exceptional woman” he had met in Monte Carlo who was beautiful, charming, and elegant. Lucky suddenly recalled dancing with Elizabeth during their younger years. “Thinking of a lady of your own?” Sidwell asked. Lucky admitted that the woman he’d been thinking of hadn’t been to Monte Carlo, but she was beautiful.
“Yeah, my lady’s what I’d call a winner,” Lucky said. Lucky continued to win hand after hand, which surprised Sidwell because he hadn’t caught Lucky cheating. Lucky suggested that they change the stakes of the game, but Sidwell rejected the idea. Lucky pointed out that his luck would eventually run out, so Sidwell advised Lucky to find a way to beat the odds.
A short time later, a woman entered the room. “Well, if it isn’t the very reason for my insomnia,” Sidwell said.
“Hello, darling,” Holly Sutton replied. Lucky hid his surprise as he looked up and locked eyes with Holly.
9/6 In Somalia, Holly and Lucky had a few moments alone in his dungeonlike prison. Lucky immediately asked why Holly was there and was surprised to learn that she was romantically involved with Lucky’s captor, Sidwell. "The heart wants what it wants," Holly said. The conversation soon turned to Luke. Holly told Lucky that he had been missed at the memorial Tracy had held in Amsterdam. Lucky claimed he'd been on his way, but he'd gotten sidetracked. Holly told Lucky that he was just like Luke. Lucky agreed and said he could smell a con a mile away. Lucky knew that Holly had to be conning Sidwell.
Lucky also informed Holly that Isaiah would be returning with backup. He suggested Holly leave. Holly wasn't about to do that because she was close to getting what she wanted. Lucky reminded her the clock was ticking because Isaiah had likely contacted the WSB. Holly then asked Lucky when he had last visited Laura and Aiden in Port Charles. Lucky admitted it had been awhile, but people needed his help. Holly wondered aloud why Lucky thought he was the only one who could fix people's problems. Lucky said he was sure his family was doing fine without him. Sidwell soon returned. Holly claimed that she had wanted to test Lucky's skill at cards. After she excused herself to get ready for her special night with Sidwell, Sidwell sat down to play a hand of poker with Lucky.
9/9 In Africa, Sidwell and Lucky played poker as they discussed Isaiah returning with backup in time to save Lucky. Sidwell warned that even if Isaiah managed to return, it would be too late, because Sidwell would soon have what he was seeking. Sidwell proudly showed his hand of four jacks and an ace, but Lucky won with a straight flush.
“Your luck will run out eventually,” Sidwell promised. Before Sidwell could have Lucky searched for hidden cards, the guard reported that Sidwell was wanted at the mine. Delighted, Sidwell left.
A short time later, Holly slipped into Lucky’s cell and found him handcuffed. Lucky implored Holly to find the key, so they could escape before Sidwell returned. Rather than help, Holly asked where Sidwell had gone. Lucky told her about the message Sidwell had received, but Lucky didn’t know the details. Holly perked up and asked what “Jenz” had been after.
“Gold, diamonds, the Holy Grail. What does it matter at this point?” Lucky grumbled.
“Did you say diamonds?” Holly asked. Lucky soon realized that Holly was after some diamonds. She explained that it would be the biggest score of her career, and she offered to cut Lucky in. Lucky pointed out that a fortune would be worthless to him if he was dead, but Holly had faith that Lucky could keep Sidwell entertained a while longer. She insisted that Lucky was his father’s son. “Endlessly entertaining,” she said.
9/10 In Somalia, Sidwell admitted that he was amazed by how Lucky kept winning at poker. Sidwell said he took comfort in knowing that Lucky would lose eventually, and then Sidwell could kill Lucky. Sidwell soon announced that Lucky's luck had just run out, but a goon interrupted them before Sidwell could follow through on the threat. While Sidwell spoke to his goon, Lucky played with the cards to ensure he'd win.
On the other side of the room, the goon told Sidwell the diamond mines were running low. Sidwell suddenly shot the goon and ordered Lucky to search the dead man. Lucky rummaged through the goon's pockets, where he found raw diamonds. Lucky handed the diamonds over to Sidwell. Moments later, a goon entered the cell to fetch Sidwell. After Lucky was handcuffed to the chair and left alone, he pulled out a small raw diamond from his sleeve and smiled.
As Elizabeth attended to Isaiah, he suddenly woke and blurted out the word "Lucky." When Elizabeth told Isaiah that he was in the hospital in Port Charles, Isaiah told Elizabeth his name and said that Lucky was his friend and had sent him there. He asked if Elizabeth knew Lucky, which threw Elizabeth for a loop. "How do you know Lucky Spencer?" She asked. Before Isaiah could answer, T.J. entered the room and told Elizabeth that she was needed at the nurse's station. Elizabeth quickly called Carly and told her the news about Lucky, not realizing that Carly was already at the hospital visiting Lulu. T.J. examined Isaiah as Isaiah asked detailed medical questions about his condition. T.J. immediately knew Isaiah was a doctor. After T.J. left, Carly arrived and introduced herself as Lucky's cousin.
In the hallway, Elizabeth ran into Anna. Elizabeth sent her to Isaiah’s room before Jason got off the elevator. Elizabeth told Jason about her new patient. She was surprised when Jason said he was the one who had found Isaiah. Elizabeth told Jason that Isaiah knew Lucky, shocking Jason.
When Anna made it to Isaiah's room, Isaiah explained how he had ended up in Port Charles. Isaiah said he had been providing medical aid overseas when he'd met Lucky, who had helped procure supplies. Isaiah informed Anna that he'd been abducted by a man named Sidwell, a name that Anna recognized. Isaiah said that Sidwell was a hypochondriac who had ordered Isaiah to be his doctor.
After she visited with Isaiah, Anna found Jason and Elizabeth outside the room, so she let them know that they could see Isaiah. Isaiah continued his story and revealed that Lucky had tried to rescue him, but Lucky had ended up stuck in Sidwell’s compound. Isaiah shared that Lucky had told Isaiah to try to get to Port Charles and get in touch with the WSB. Isaiah also told Carly exactly where Lucky was being held.
Isaiah explained how he had ended up being run down by a car. Isaiah said he'd immediately known someone had been watching him at the airport. He had rented a car but he'd realized that he'd still been followed, so he'd gotten out of the car and started running. Before he’d gotten far, he'd been hit by a car.
When Elizabeth visited Isaiah, she revealed that she and Lucky had once been married and shared a son named Aiden. Elizabeth looked terrified when Isaiah told her that he had never seen Lucky in so much trouble.
9/11 At the hospital, Elizabeth was surprised when Willow reported for duty a week early, so Willow explained that she had offered to cover the shift of another nurse. When the conversation turned to Lulu, Elizabeth shared that she hoped Lucky would be “back home” soon to save his sister.
Willow knew Lucky hadn’t been in Port Charles for years, so Elizabeth confirmed that it had been twelve years. Willow asked if Elizabeth worried that Lucky might not return. Annoyed, Elizabeth insisted that Lucky loved his family. Willow followed Elizabeth into the hallway as Elizabeth praised Willow for talking to Lulu because some people—including nurses—forgot that there was an actual person in the bed.
When they reached the nurses’ station, Elizabeth apologized for snapping at Willow earlier. Willow promised that she hadn’t meant to imply that Lucky intentionally avoided his family, but Elizabeth confessed that it was her fear because Lucky had been running from something for a very long time.
“Sometimes, I think it’s me,” Elizabeth said.
Elizabeth explained that she’d been a big part of the reason why Lucky had left town, but she had never expected him to stay away for as long as he had. Elizabeth opened up about Aiden and how Aiden barely knew his father except through email exchanges and video calls. Elizabeth revealed that Aiden was excited about the prospect of seeing his father and getting to spend time with him, but Elizabeth worried that Lucky would only stay long enough to save Lulu and then leave.
Elizabeth had no idea what to say to Aiden about Lucky, so Willow suggested that Elizabeth wait to see what happened. Elizabeth explained that Aiden had seen how Jason and Jake had worked to rebuild their relationship, and she suspected that Aiden hoped the same thing would happen with Lucky. Elizabeth knew that Lucky loved Aiden, but she also recognized that Lucky didn’t love living in one place for long.
Anna appeared in the doorway. Carly quickly explained that Brennan had agreed to help find Lucky, and they were waiting for an update. Pleased, Anna asked what Brennan knew about “Jenz Sidwell.” Brennan claimed that he only knew what he’d had read in newspapers, but Anna didn’t believe him. Just then, Brennan’s phone rang. After he ended the call, he revealed that the compound where Lucky had been held had been located, but Sidwell had packed up and left two hours earlier.
Anna demanded that Brennan search all the satellite images to find where Sidwell had taken Lucky, but Brennan argued that he didn’t have the manpower for such an extensive search. Carly became upset, but Anna promised to find Lucky with or without Brennan’s help.
A short time later, Anna entered Isaiah’s hospital room and informed him that the compound had been abandoned. She asked if Isaiah had any idea where Sidwell had gone, but Isaiah had no idea. “How are we going to find Lucky now?” he anxiously asked.
9/12 Carly asked Jason to head to Africa and find Lucky. Jason agreed to go and promised he would do everything he could to bring Lucky home. Just then, Brennan called, and Carly hoped he had news about Lucky’s location.
9/13 At the WSB office, Anna demanded that Brennan give her Lucky's location. Anna reminded Brennan that Carly would want the information. Brennan was ready to give Anna some details on Lucky's whereabouts but warned her that he could report her to the police for "going rogue.” Anna insisted she could handle finding Lucky herself, but Brennan worried that Anna would screw up the operation.
Brennan also wanted to know why Anna cared so much about Lucky. Anna said she wanted to find Lucky for Luke's sake, as she and Luke had been close friends for years. "If Robin had ever been in any kind of trouble, there's nothing Luke wouldn't have done to bring her home safely," Anna said. Brennan was moved and gave Anna a piece of paper with Lucky's location.
Carly and Jason headed into Isaiah's room. Isaiah was surprised to hear that Jason was headed to Somalia to find Lucky. He didn't believe a coffee importer could do the job, so Isaiah offered to go with him. Isaiah tried getting out of bed but was in too much pain. He warned Jason that Sidwell was dangerous, but Carly assured Isaiah that Jason could take care of himself. Jason asked Isaiah if Sidwell had any vulnerabilities.
In Brennan’s office, he warns Anna that she is no longer a WSB agent. He declares that Sidwell is very dangerous. She requests Brennan give her a team but he tells her he can’t do that, but he does give her Lucky’s location.
"There's only one, Sidwell's girlfriend," Isaiah said. When Carly asked for Sidwell's girlfriend's name, Isaiah said that Sidwell called her “English." Before Carly could question Isaiah further, Brennan knocked on the window.
In the hall, Brennan gave Carly the information she had asked for as Jason watches. When he says that that WSB can’t be involved, Jason says that he will take care of it on his own. Brennan hints that Jason won’t have to do it alone. When Jason sits down on the airplane, he finds Anna next to him.
9/16 Danny approached Elizabeth at the nurses' station, looking for Dante. He excitedly told Liz that Jason had just left for Africa to find Lucky. Jason had texted Danny to explain why he wasn't going to be able to see Danny for a while. Elizabeth was stunned to learn that Jason knew where Lucky was. Danny was thrilled that his father was going to be a hero, and he couldn't wait to tell Dante.
When Sam arrived, Danny gave her the news. Elizabeth could sense the tension in Sam, so Elizabeth sent Danny to Bobbie's to bring back food for Dante. He made Sam and Elizabeth promise not to tell Dante the news about Jason and Lucky without him.
When Danny left, Sam vented that Jason could get himself killed just when Danny had grown attached to him again.
Sam and Elizabeth were both surprised that Jason had told Danny where he was going, but hadn't let them—Danny and Jake's mothers—know. However, Elizabeth was confident that Jason could find Lucky. Sam was clearly more annoyed than Elizabeth was, but Elizabeth told Sam she could relate. She resented Lucky for missing Aiden's entire life. Elizabeth told Sam that Jason could still come through for Danny, as he had for Jake. Sam said that Jason was paying for Jake's college from a distance, but Elizabeth gave Jason credit for trying.
Sam told Elizabeth that she expected Lucky to return to Port Charles and just leave again, hurting Aiden. "His father won't stay. And when he leaves, you will lie awake at night wondering, 'What if this time, he doesn't come back? What if this time, all of those risks finally catch up with him?' And that is your worst nightmare because you know it will break your son's heart if he loses his father."
Sam and Elizabeth weren't aware that Danny had heard Sam's whole rant until he asked, "You think Dad's gonna die?" Sam told Danny she hadn't meant for him to hear her, but Danny asked her to have some faith. "Dad's going to be fine," Danny said.
9/19 In Africa, Sidwell and Holly donned their formal best and enjoyed Champagne at an out-of-the-way casino. Holly was stunned when she saw Jason and Anna walk in. Jason and Anna sat down at a table and ordered drinks. Anna looked around and was shocked to notice that Sidwell's girlfriend was Holly. "When Isaiah said that Sidwell called his girlfriend 'English,' it didn't occur to me it would be Holly," Anna
remarked. Jason believed that Holly could help them, but Anna disagreed.
“Holly's goal is to help herself," Anna said. Jason said he'd thought Anna and Holly were friends, so Anna explained that her relationship with Holly was complicated. "It is very possible that our interests would not align with hers," Anna pointed out. Anna believed Holly would want to save Lucky and Lulu's lives, but Anna was sure Holly had to be running a con. Anna suddenly suggested that they hit the gaming tables, but Holly and Sidwell beat them to it. Jason suggested they try to get hold of Sidwell's phone so she could copy the chip onto a device that Brennan had given her. Anna and Jason saw Sidwell place his phone in his tuxedo jacket pocket. Anna suggested they make their move right away.
After Holly got up, Anna told Jason to sit next to Sidwell and begin playing cards. Anna planned to sidle up next to them and lift the phone out of Sidwell's pocket. When they saw the chair next to Sidwell was occupied by a woman, Anna warned the woman's significant other that Sidwell would win. The significant other got the woman to change seats so Jason could sit down. Anna was aware that Holly had watched the whole thing.
Jason "accidentally" knocked a glass of Champagne on Sidwell, so Jason suggested that Sidwell take his jacket off and put it on the back of his chair.
While Jason and Sidwell played, Holly and Anna spoke to one another on the sly. Holly told Anna that she hadn't given away Anna's cover.Anna soon walked by Jason, wished him luck, and grabbed the phone as Holly looked on. As Anna tried to copy the chip, Holly approached her. "You seem to have your hands on a phone that doesn't belong to you," Holly said.
9/20 At the casino, Holly caught Anna with Sidwell's phone. Holly said she was going to sound the alarms. Anna explained that she needed Holly’s help replacing Sidwell's phone. "It's for Luke," Anna added. She explained to Holly that Lulu needed a transplant, so they had to find Lucky. When Holly told Anna that she had just seen Lucky the day before, Anna was shocked. As one of Sidwell's henchmen eavesdropped, Holly told Anna that Lucky was locked up at Sidwell's camp. Holly said that Sidwell changed the passwords daily. "It doesn't matter how good you and Jason are. Your chances of getting in and out undetected are nil," Holly said.
Meanwhile, Jason kept losing at poker hands. Sidwell said he was done playing and wanted to take his winnings and leave with his girlfriend. Jason exposed the woman sitting next to him for having a card up her sleeve. He announced that Sidwell was cheating. Sidwell denied knowing the woman, but Jason said if Sidwelly wanted to prove to the room that he was legit, he should sit back down and play some more without that woman's help.
Holly pulled Sidwell away so Anna could return his phone. Anna told Jason to keep playing and winning so Sidwell would invite them to his camp, where Lucky was. Sidwell bet an expensive diamond bracelet. He soon lost the bracelet and all of his money to Jason. Jason told Anna that angering Sidwell wouldn't get them closer to Lucky. Anna told Jason to wait as she watched Holly talk to Sidwell.
Sidwell told Holly he was out of money and wanted to leave. Holly told Sidwell that he had plenty of cash back at camp. Holly said if Sidwell wanted to get back in her good graces, he needed to invite Jason and Anna back to camp and get her bracelet back.
As Holly walked away, his guard approached Sidwell and said he wanted to tell Sidwell about the conversation he'd overheard between Holly and Anna. Holly and Sidwell invited Jason and Anna to the camp. Holly said they had everything they could need there, and Sidwell wanted to win his money back. He told them that a driver would be outside to take them.
After they walked away, Holly said Jason's luck couldn't hold out forever. Sidwell said Jason and Anna were going to get what they deserved. Sidwell's guards dragged Lucky into a cell and left him to die. He was beaten, bleeding, and sore as he woke up.
He knew he was in rough shape when he saw Elizabeth brush the hair from his eyes. She told him he had a concussion and sat him upright. Elizabeth told Lucky that helping people was all good, but for years, all he had done had been to run away. She said that he had run to the edge of his grave and had nowhere else to go. Lucky admitted that he only thought about her and Aiden and missed them. He thanked her for taking good care of their son and said he knew he couldn't be the father that Aiden deserved.
Lucky said helping people was the only way he could atone for leaving his family. Elizabeth wasn't buying his story. She said the truth was that Lucky was a coward who couldn't face his family. She didn't think he was owning up to anything by running away. Elizabeth told Lucky that she would have helped him and loved him, anyway. Lucky said he knew that, but he would see disappointment in her eyes and couldn't live with it.
"So you just decided for all of us, no one gets a say?" Elizabeth asked. She said if Lucky was sorry, he should return home.
”Not as a hero, but as a man who messed up and has the guts to admit it," Elizabeth added.
"Do you think I could?" Lucky asked.
"Only you can answer that,” Elizabeth said. Lucky woke up alone in the cell. He struggled to move but said to himself, "I am not dying like this. Not here. Not today.”
9/25 At the compound, Anna and Jason made small talk with Sidwell and Holly. When Sidwell said he wanted to know why they were really there. Anna told Sidwell that her business dealt with platinum, gold, and diamonds. Holly complained to Sidwell that the visit was supposed to be fun. Since they were going to talk business, she made an excuse to leave the room to get food prepared for the game. Anna told Sidwell that she could help him move his materials to Switzerland and get him a better deal than he was getting in Dubai. Anna said she could secure his profits in a Swiss bank account. Sidwell said it was either his lucky day—or it was something else entirely. He asked Anna for a reference.
Lucky tried picking the lock but heard the guard coming, so he hid his switchblade up his sleeve. The guard brought him food with a knife and fork. He told Lucky that the boss had fancy guests. Lucky knew that meant there was a vehicle, and he used the knife to work on the lock again after the guard left. Lucky managed to pick the lock and had just opened the door to his cell when Holly rushed in. She told him she was there to help him escape.
Lucky wanted to leave in one direction, but Holly tried to tell him to go with her. Sidwell and his guards came around the corner and found them together.
Sidwell brought Holly and Lucky into the room with Anna and Jason and demanded to know how they knew each other.
Holly said that her ex-husband had left her for Anna. Sidwell wanted to understand why Holly hadn't told him. Holly said that she had assumed he had already known and had brought Anna to make her jealous. “I didn’t think I could know something you didn’t,” Holly said.
Sidwell wanted to know Lucky’s connection to Holly and said he would beat the truth out of her if needed. Lucky said that Holly was just being nice.
“I just wanted to work for you, and all you did was beat me. Everyone knows what’s going on. Those two are trying to take you for everything you’ve got,” Lucky said about Anna and Jason. Sidwell said it would be easy to kill them all but decided a high-stakes poker game would solve everything.
“Three players. If Jason wins, he and Anna live to see another day. If Lucky wins, Holly and Lucky live. I win, you all die,” Sidwell said.
9/26 Sidwell announced new game rules to Anna, Jason, Lucky, and Holly. If Jason won a card game, Jason and Anna would get to live. If Lucky won, then Lucky and Holly could live. If Sidwell won, they would all die. Holly quickly spoke up, appearing to throw Lucky, Jason, and Anna under the bus as she begged for her life. Sidwell remained furious. Sidwell had his goons take Anna and Holly away before cuffing Lucky and Jason's chairs to the card table.
Sidwell sat down to play but was quickly called away, leaving Jason and Lucky alone. Jason explained to Lucky that he was there specifically to bring Lucky home. Lucky insisted he could take care of himself, so Jason finally gave Lucky devastating news: Lulu needed a liver transplant, and Lucky could be her only hope. Before Lucky had a chance to absorb the information, Sidwell returned for a consequential card game. Jason quickly folded so Lucky could win. Sidwell had the guards take Jason away, marveling how Holly always landed on her feet.
Back in the card room, Sidwell was ready to play another game while threatening Holly. Finally, Holly smacked Sidwell across the face as Lucky raced to unlock his cuffs. Holly grabbed Sidwell's gun, but Sidwell knocked it out of her hands just as Lucky got his cuffs off.
9/27 At the WSB station, Brennan was told that Sidwell was holding three US citizens, so he organized a drone strike to give them a fighting chance.
At the hospital, Felicia asked Elizabeth how Lulu was doing. Elizabeth said Lulu was running out of time. Felicia asked how Elizabeth felt about Lucky returning home. Elizabeth said she hadn't sorted out her feelings, but if Aiden wanted to get to know Lucky while he was there, she would make that happen. She just hoped she wouldn't have to pick up the pieces.
Felicia empathized with Elizabeth and recalled how long it had taken her to get over Frisco. Elizabeth credited Epiphany with teaching her to put one foot before the other. "I found myself, but I'm not sure that Lucky ever did that," Elizabeth said.
At the compound, as Anna and Jason were being taken out of their cell, Anna attacked one of the guards, and Jason tried to fight the other two, but they were overpowered. The guards took Anna and Jason outside the building and told them to get on their knees. As Jason and Anna were about to be executed, drones hit. The explosion killed one of the guards, and the other two ran off. Jason and Anna stole the dead guard's guns and used his handcuff keys to unlock their cuffs. Then they went back into the building to find Lucky.
Meanwhile, Holly managed to take Sidwell's gun and pointed it at him while Lucky got his ankle unchained. Sidwell knocked the gun out of Holly's hand. Lucky and Holly jumped on Sidwell. Lucky managed to get the gun back, but Sidwell held a knife to Holly and called Lucky's bluff. Lucky lowered the gun, and Holly managed to get away. Lucky called for her help as Sidwell choked him, but Sidwell said Holly had left Lucky to die.
Sidwell was overpowering Lucky, but Jason knocked him unconscious. Jason was going to kill Sidwell, but Lucky said to just leave him. They took Sidwell's gun and ran outside. They weren't sure which direction to go when a Jeep backed up quickly toward them.
On the plane, Jason told Lucky they had found him because of Isaiah. Anna thanked Holly for not leaving them behind. Holly said she didn’t want to be the one to tell Robert that Anna was dead. "Also, I doubt the WSB would've let me on the plane without you," Holly said as she smiled. Anna told Lucky that they weren't the only ones looking for him.
Carly rushed into Brennan's office, and he showed her w satellite images of the drone strikes at the compound. "I got word your friends needed backup. I only hope I helped them in time," he said.
At the compound, Sidwell told his guards to get a car so he could go after Holly. "She has my diamonds!" Sidwell said.
Anna said that Laura and Kevin had gone to the refugee camp to look for Lucky. Lucky said the camp was remote but out of the line of fire. He hoped his mom was safe. Lucky asked how Lulu was. Anna told him what was wrong and that Lulu needed a transplant from a family member. Lucky knew he was the donor. Anna asked if there was anything she could do for him. Lucky asked to borrow her phone.
At the nurses' desk, Elizabeth answered the phone. "Elizabeth?" Lucky said. Elizabeth froze as she recognized his voice.
9/30 Lucky and Jason arrived at the nurses' station. Lucky immediately introduced himself as Lulu's brother. Portia quickly took Lucky to run tests on his liver. Lucky asked how Lulu was doing, so Portia gave it to him straight. "Her condition is deteriorating, and we're running out of time," Portia said.
After Portia drew Lucky's blood, she explained that they needed to find out if he was a match for Lulu and, if so, that his liver met the transplant criteria. Portia also examined Lucky to ensure he was in the right physical condition to donate a portion of his liver.
When the tests were complete, Lucky met up with Jason by the elevators, marveling at the fact that he was actually home. Both men talked about how hard returning to Port Charles was, both for themselves and their loved ones.
Carly soon walked off the elevator and quickly hugged Lucky. She informed him that she was trying to get in touch with Laura and Kevin but hadn't been able to reach them. Lucky admitted he had received Carly's email about Bobbie's death, and he apologized for not writing back.
Lucky quietly walked into Lulu's room, kissed her hand, and told her that he was there. He then flashed back to being a child and talking to baby Lulu. "I promised to take care of you, but I wasn't there when you needed me most. I was too busy hiding out in Ireland or Africa...I told myself that I was doing good in the world, but you and I both know that I was just running and hiding.”
Elizabeth sat Aiden down to tell him about Lucky's return. She asked Aiden how he felt about his dad being back, but Aiden wasn't sure. “It's been a long time since I've heard from him at all. I was always the one who emailed first. Once, I let it go for five months to see if he would reach out to me," Aiden admitted. Aiden said he didn't hate Lucky and was glad Lucky was coming back.
"It's not like he's coming back for me. He's here to help Aunt Lulu," Aiden said. Aiden wasn't even sure he would see Lucky and wondered if his dad would just help Lulu and take off again. Elizabeth was sure that wouldn't happen. Aiden knew things might be awkward between him and Lucky, but he said he would be okay hanging out with him. Before Aiden left for school, he asked Elizabeth if he was like Lucky. He said he preferred being compared to Elizabeth.
"People might call me a mama's boy for saying it, but it's true. I'm good with being my mom’s son," Aiden said. After Aiden was gone, Terry stopped by to inform Elizabeth that Lucky was at the hospital. Elizabeth asked if Lucky was okay.
"He seemed like he'd been through some stuff," Terry said. Elizabeth and Terry discussed Lucky's return, with Elizabeth admitting he was practically a stranger. Elizabeth told Terry that hearing Lucky’s voice on the phone had stirred up feelings for "the person he was," not necessarily the man Lucky was "now." Elizabeth believed Lucky would take off again once Lulu was doing better.
Just as Terry returned to the hospital and learned from a relieved Portia that Lucly was a match for Lulu, Lucky walked into Bobbie's, where Elizabeth was getting coffee.
10/3 Elizabeth was stunned when she turned around at Bobbie's and saw Lucky standing there as he had been all those years earlier when they had first met. Elizabeth even flashed back to that first moment nearly 30 years before. When he told her that coffee stunted one's growth, Lucky harkened back to that time when they had been teens and he had told her cigarettes would stunt her growth. When Lucky told Elizabeth she hadn’t changed a bit, Elizabeth opened her arms for an embrace. After their hug, Elizabeth ordered Lucky a BLT as they caught up on life. Lucky congratulated Elizabeth on becoming head nurse. Elizabeth tried to leave, but Lucky asked her to sit and catch up some more. Lucky didn't want to talk about what had happened with Sidwell, but Elizabeth made him spill. Lucky chalked the whole thing up as no big deal.
“I suggest you make it a big deal. It will make your son feel better knowing you were away for good reasons," Elizabeth said bluntly. Elizabeth explained that Aiden was a good kid, but she asked Lucky to "handle him with care." Elizabeth pointed out that Lucky didn't know his son and that she knew Lucky was back for Lulu and not Aiden. Elizabeth knew not to assume Lucky was staying, and she didn't want Aiden to assume that, either. "I won't make him any promises I can't keep," Lucky said.
When Lucky and Elizabeth left for the hospital, Lucky complimented the "Bobbie's" sign that Elizabeth had made. He could tell she was the one who had painted it. "I'd know your brush stroke anywhere," Lucky told her.
As Jason and Sam chatted by the GH elevators, Elizabeth and Lucky showed up for some awkward moments and looks. When Lucky went to get more bloodwork, Jason tried talking to Elizabeth. She quickly shut him up when she took him into her arms and thanked him for bringing Lucky home. Lucky soon returned after another blood draw, and Jason left.
Before Elizabeth began work, Lucky thanked her and said he had a good feeling about everything. "So do I," Elizabeth said with a slight smile.
10/4 Lucky went to see Sonny and said he could never repay Anna, Jason, and Carly for being able to get him back to Port Charles. Sonny said he knew Lucky had been through hell, even with their help, and Sonny said Luke would be proud. Lucky said his dad would not be proud, as Lucky should have been there all along. Sonny asked if Lucky would judge Aiden if he had messed up. Lucky said he wouldn't. Sonny said Luke wouldn’t judge Lucky, either, because Luke loved him. Sonny told Lucky not to beat himself up. He said that Lucky was there, and that was all that mattered. Lucky said he had a lot of work to do, and not just the stuff with Lulu. Lucky said that he had been to some of the most dangerous places in the world, and there he was in Port Charles, afraid to see his own son.
Lucky didn’t even know if Aiden wanted to see him, as he hadn’t made contact in a long time. Sonny asked if Lucky cared what Luke thought of him. “More than anyone,” Lucky said. Sonny advised Lucky to keep that thought at the front of his mind. Lucky said he was going to go see Aiden, but he would swing by the hospital to check on Lulu and Isaiah first. Sonny said he was glad Lucky was back. “Me, too. It feels good,”Lucky said.
“That means you’re supposed to be here,” Sonny said.
At the hospital, Lucky asked Isaiah if Port Charles was growing on him. Isaiah said Lucky should tell him about his life so Isaiah didn’t stick his foot in his mouth. Lucky realized Isaiah had met Elizabeth. Isaiah asked if Aiden knew what Lucky had been doing. Lucky said he didn’t want to scare his son. Isaiah offered to tell Aiden that Lucky had been helping people. Lucky said he might take Isaiah up on that at some point.
Lucky said he was waiting to find out if he was a match and was worried about the surgeries. Isaiah explained that Lucky would need a week in the hospital and another six to eight weeks of recovery after the transplant. Isaiah said it was risky, and there was no such thing as a routine transplant surgery. Isaiah said he would give advice and support but wouldn’t operate again. Lucky said he would still be in the desert without Isaiah, and from that point on, whatever the risks, it would be on Lucky.
10/7 When Lucky got off the GH elevator, he spotted Aiden and called out his name. Aiden turned around and simply said, "Hi, Dad." Elizabeth observed the exchange before stepping in and suggesting they use the break room to talk.
Once Aiden and Lucky were alone, Lucky told his son he was sorry for everything.
"It's my fault that we didn't talk for so long. It's not that I didn't want to. I was in places where...no excuses. I should have figured out a way to make contact," Lucky said. Aiden told Lucky he was glad that his father was there, but he had still needed his dad over the past few years.
"There was a lot going on in my life that I really wanted to talk to you about," Aiden said. Aiden asked Lucky to allow him to talk, so Lucky obliged. Aiden said he wasn’t sure how to tell Lucky, but he knew he just had to say it. "I've wanted to tell you for a long time...I'm gay," Aiden said. Lucky took a few moments to compose himself before responding.
“I'm your father. And I love you without exception, and if I've made you question that 'cause I've been gone, I am sorry...Nothing will change the way I feel about you," Lucky said. Aiden was greatly relieved hearing Lucky's words.
"I feel like I can breathe," Aiden said before embracing his dad. The father and son then caught up on life, with Aiden telling Lucky all about his baking business. Lucky told Aiden about the Triple L diner. It turned out Luke had been the diner's baker.
At the nurses' station, Elizabeth told Terry that Lucky and Aiden had a lot to catch up on in the break room. Terry knew Aiden coming out to his dad was a big deal, but Elizabeth was surprised that Aiden had told Terry he was gay. Soon, Elizabeth got Lucky's test results, so she found Lucky and Aiden. After Aiden left to meet a friend, Elizabeth told Lucky he wasn't a viable liver donor for Lulu.
10/8 Lucky could barely believe it when Elizabeth told him that his liver wasn't safe for donation. "Your liver could kill her," Elizabeth admitted. Lucky insisted that the lab had to be wrong, and he demanded they run the test again. Elizabeth said that the lab had already double-checked. The assumption was that Lucky had drunk unfiltered water on his travels and ingested a parasite. Lucky was sure there had to be a cure to make his liver viable, but Elizabeth sadly informed him that there wasn't.
Lucky blamed himself for staying away from his family too long. Elizabeth pointed out that he'd saved countless people. "What does it matter if I can't save my sister?" Lucky asked. A distraught Lucky went to visit Lulu and apologized for not being able to save her.
"I'm the big brother, but you gotta listen to me. You're the strong one...you're brave and fearless and stubborn. You've always been a fighter, and that's what I need you to do right now until we find a donor,” Lucky begged. Rocco appeared at the door, surprised to see Lucky. He said he recognized Lucky from photographs.
"Why were you talking about finding a donor? It's you, right? Aren't you going to save my mom?” Rocco asked. Before Lucky could answer, Dante arrived and happily welcomed Lucky back home. Lucky was forced to tell Dante that he couldn't be Lulu’s donor. Rocco was distraught and ran from the room.
Lucky made his way to Bobbie's and practically lost his mind. When he couldn't find Carly, he angrily told everyone at Bobbie's that they had to leave. The disturbed customers dispersed so Lucky could smash dishes, knock over table and chairs, and have a complete meltdown.
Meanwhile, Lucas found Elizabeth in tears in the break room. Elizabeth told Lucas the bad news about Lucky's liver. She also worried about Lucky after seeing the devastation in his eyes.
10/9 Josslyn got a shock when she walked into Bobbie's and found the whole place trashed and her cousin Lucky crawling along the floor in a disheveled state. Josslyn immediately jumped to the logical conclusion that someone had robbed the place. Lucky had to tell her he was responsible for the mess because he had gotten some bad news.
“So, you trashed my mom's business?" Josslyn asked incredulously. Lucky finally realized he was talking to Josslyn. "I am glad you recognized me because I don't recognize you," she said, still angry at Lucky's actions. When Josslyn told Lucky that Carly could have him arrested, he said he didn't care at that point. Lucky and Josslyn argued back and forth, with Josslyn being blunt.
“If this is how you treat family, then I don't want anything to do with you,” she said. Josslyn also pointed out that Jason had risked his life to save Lucky. Lucky didn't seem to care and ran out of Bobbie's, leaving Josslyn to clean up his mess.
As Josslyn cleaned, Dex and a fellow cop walked in. They had gotten a report that "some crazy guy busted up Bobbie's." Dex asked what had happened. Josslyn would only say it was a family matter, and she didn't want to file a police report.
Lucky later found himself wandering around Jason's warehouse. "I need your help getting back to Africa," Lucky said when he saw Jason. Jason immediately knew that Lucky wasn't a suitable donor for Lulu. Lucky explained why he couldn't save Lulu.
Jason was surprised that Lucky wanted to leave immediately and asked why Lucky wouldn't wait to reunite with Laura. Lucky said he didn't want to see the disappointment in her eyes. Jason tried talking Lucky out of his decision, pointing out how hurt Aiden and Elizabeth would be if he left.
"Take it from someone who just got back here. Both times that I left my family, there was no chance to say goodbye. It devastated them,” Jason said, while stressing that the guilt of not saying goodbye would essentially eat Lucky alive. Jason and Lucky sat down to talk about why Lucky had left in the first place. Lucky admitted he had been emotionally destroying Elizabeth at the time. Lucky said he had inherited his penchant for taking off from Luke. Lucky had convinced himself if he did some good in the world, he could make up for his behavior in Port Charles. He finally realized it didn't work.
Jason eventually gave Lucky money to make a clean exit from town but told Lucky that he thought Lucky should stay.
"I can't give you the answer you're looking for," Jason said. Lucky took the envelope of cash and left.
Lucky's next stop was the hospital chapel. As he prayed for Lulu, Laura walked in and called out her son's name.
10/10 In the hospital chapel, Lucky prayed for guidance. Laura appeared, and they embraced. They quickly caught up on where he had been and how he was doing. Laura said that Lucky reminded her of Luke with his long hair. Lucky told Laura that he couldn't be a donor for Lulu.
He was beating himself up about not being there for her and how he couldn't help save her. Lucky thought he was failing Lulu again. Laura told Lucky that he deserved to live his life. Laura said Nikolas was just as upset he couldn't be a donor. Lucky wished he had been around for his mom to lean on just once.
"I'll be leaning on you plenty before this is over," Laura said. Lucky and Laura cried together. Laura added, "If the worst should come to pass and if we have to let her go, will you please stay with me and hold my hand when I say goodbye?”
10/11 Elizabeth told Portia that people were being tested to see if they were a match for Lulu, so the lab was extra busy. She asked if Portia would authorize overtime for the lab techs, and Portia agreed. Portia questioned if Elizabeth had any trouble with Brad. Elizabeth said that Brad’s work and behavior had been flawless. Portia worried that Brad’s employment put the hospital at risk. Elizabeth said she wouldn’t defend Brad as a person, but his work was good.
Cody ran into Elizabeth at GH while having his liver tested to see if he could be a donor for Lulu. Cody said a lot more people were coming in to test as well.
A representative from General Hospital’s legal department came to talk to Elizabeth. She gave Elizabeth a subpoena from the Court of Appeals regarding Heather Webber. Elizabeth asked Brad to look into it. He was surprised she trusted him with the job but immediately got to work on the task.
Elizabeth told Portia about the court order. Portia wasn’t concerned, as mistakes often happen on tests. Elizabeth said it could cast doubt on other tests that were used as evidence.
10/14 Elizabeth and Ric arrived at the police station but had no idea why they had been summoned. Chase met with them and asked Elizabeth and Ric to look at the gun. Elizabeth said it looked like the same gun they had seen Alexis toss from the bridge, but Ric hesitated. After Chase asked him to take a second look, Ric finally said it appeared to be the same gun. After Chase left, Elizabeth chastised Ric for hesitating.
Terry later ran into Elizabeth in the hospital locker rooms. Elizabeth admitted she was angry at Ric but didn't want to talk about it. Terry wondered if Elizabeth's mood had more to do with Lucky than with Ric. Elizabeth told Terry she was worried about Lucky after learning he couldn't be the hero who saved Lulu.
"The thing that scares me the most is that he'll leave again," Elizabeth said. When Elizabeth and Terry met up again at the nurses' station, Elizabeth was shocked to learn that a match had been found for Lulu.
10/15 Elizabeth met up with Isaiah at the nurses' station. He had just finished a physical therapy session and wanted to check up on Lucky, thinking his friend was being prepped for surgery. Elizabeth told Isaiah that Lucky wasn't a suitable donor, but they might have found another donor. She was waiting for more details before telling Laura.
Elizabeth and Isaiah discussed the miracle of organ donation and the selflessness of someone willing to give up a part of themselves to save someone else. Both Elizabeth and Isaiah worried that Lucky had left town. Isaiah admitted he would have done the same thing.
Isaiah admitted he had left his practice after a surgery that had gone wrong. However, he believed that Lucky should stick around. As Elizabeth and Isaiah were talking, Elizabeth got a notification about Lulu's match. She was stunned when she saw the name of the donor. Lulu started crashing, and Isaiah tried to save her life.
Terry tells Sam that a potential donor has been found. Sam was stunned to learn she was a match for Lulu. "Are you telling me that all this time that it's been me? I am the one who can save Lulu?” Sam asked.
10/16 At General Hospital, Elizabeth explained to Dante that Lulu was stable, thanks to Isaiah. She had been crashing, but Isaiah had acted fast to help. Portia asked Dante for some privacy with the medical team.
While Sam sat through more tests, a frantic Dante approached Elizabeth at the nurses' station, looking for more details on what had happened to Lulu. Elizabeth assured Dante that everyone was invested in saving Lulu. Dante and Elizabeth went on to discuss how life had never been dull with Lucky and Lulu.
"But we both moved on. We found happiness with other people," Elizabeth pointed out. Just then, Elizabeth got a text from Terry telling her Sam's test results were in.
10/18 Lucky came downstairs and saw Elizabeth in the living room. "Am I in the right apartment?" he quipped. Elizabeth told him Sam was a match and the surgeries had been scheduled. Lucky couldn't believe it was really happening and happily hugged Elizabeth. Liz and Lucky sat down to talk. He told her that all he could think about for the past few days was how he had let down his little sister. Elizabeth said no one could have predicted this.
"Today's a good day, appreciate it," Elizabeth said encouragingly. She told Lucky she was there for another reason. Elizabeth showed Lucky the baby monitor and said she was there to babysit Ace for a little while. They watched him play, and Lucky asked what Aiden had been like as a toddler. Elizabeth said Aiden loved music.
"I can't carry a tune, so he got that musical gene from you," she said warmly.Elizabeth said she was going to the hospital after the nanny put Ace down for a nap. She suggested Aiden would probably like it if Lucky talked to him about music. Elizabeth offered to give Lucky a ride to the hospital.
Terry arrived at Lulu’s hospital room to talk to Laura about Lulu's surgery. Terry said that there was a potential complication. As Lucky and Elizabeth walked up, Laura asked Terry if they were still planning on doing the transplant.
10/21 Laura was alarmed when Terry told her there was a potential complication with Lulu's surgery. Before Terry gave Laura any details, Lucky and Elizabeth happened by and overheard the conversation. Terry took Lucky and Laura to talk privately. Terry explained that Lulu had portal vein thrombosis, meaning Lulu had a blood clot in the vein that delivered blood to the liver. The surgeon would have to remove the clot, but it dropped Lulu's odds of having a successful transplant. Laura still wanted to proceed, but Terry cautioned her.
"At this point, we believe the surgery will be in vain. In all likelihood, it will not save Lulu," Terry said. Terry told Laura that Sam would be informed of this new development and would have to decide if she still wanted to donate part of her liver.
Isaiah dropped by the nurses' station to see Elizabeth after his physical therapy. Lucas soon arrived to talk about Lulu's ventilator malfunctioning. Something about it seemed fishy. Isaiah reiterated that he noticed the vent was too quiet when he entered Lulu's room. When he looked at it, he saw it had powered down without sounding an alarm. All three were determined to get to the bottom of things.
Elizabeth repeated that she only heard the second alarm and immediately performed chest compressions. Lucas said that if the second alarm had not gone off, it would have been too late, and Lulu would be dead. Lucky approached Isaiah and asked to speak to his friend privately. Elizabeth and Lucas could tell something was wrong, so they looked at her chart and saw her latest diagnosis.
In the hospital stairwell, Lucky asked Isaiah if he had ever done a transplant on someone with Lulu's condition. Isaiah admitted he had, and the patient went on to survive. Isaiah still didn't feel comfortable performing the surgery and told Lucky how he had lost a patient during a transplant surgery.
"I'm sorry, Lucky. I can't save your sister," Isaiah said.
Lucky responded, "I'm not asking you to save her. I'm just asking you to try.” Isaiah stressed that it would take a miracle for Lulu to survive, but Lucky refused to give up.
"Isaiah, please, we need you," Lucky pleaded.
10/22 An alarmed Ric later turned up at the hospital and told Elizabeth they needed to talk immediately. "I just got a call. Judge Orvis has ruled in Heather's favor," Ric told a shocked Elizabeth.
"Isn't this what you wanted?" Elizabeth asked. Ric said he had been hoping she would be transferred to a minimum-security prison and not released. Ric was reeling from the fact that the judge had vacated Heather's sentence. Ric wanted Elizabeth to join him at the Savoy for moral support when he told the Ashford clan the news.
Elizabeth refused. "This is all you, buddy. You need to take responsibility for just doing your job," Elizabeth said. Elizabeth helped get Sam settled in at the hospital.
10/24 Isaiah approached to tell Laura it was time to prep Lulu for surgery. Isaiah explained that Lulu was on anti-coagulants to thin the blood clot, but there were no guarantees. "My daughter has been fighting for her life since she was a tiny little girl and winning. If you give her the chance today, she will win again," Laura said.
When it came time for Sam to be wheeled into surgery, her loved ones gathered and wished her well. Jason showed up just in time so he and Sam could exchange knowing glances before turning to look at their son. Sam raised her hand to show the "deuces" sign as she was wheeled away.
Dvd #8B 10/25 Outside Pentonville, Heather felt blessed to see Steven and Elizabeth. Liz hugged her brother. Heather thought it was ironic that she and Steven were getting out of prison at the same time, but he admitted that he had been out for a few months already. Heather wondered why he hadn’t told her, and he reminded her that they hadn’t contacted one another for a long time. Liz had to return to work, but Heather knew exactly where she wanted to go with Steven.
At the nurses’ station, Elizabeth told Terry how Steven showed up at Pentonville. Liz noted that Heather wanted to get a BLT, and Steven wanted to talk to Heather alone. Liz said she doubted Steven would stay in Port Charles as he had made a new life in Sedona.
“Seeing him today, I got the feeling he was here to fix things,” Liz noted. Liz was relieved that Steven was in town so that he could deal with Heather.
“What about when he leaves?” Terry asked.
Steven and Heather found Elizabeth at the hospital. “Welcome back to General Hospital. I still can’t believe you’re here,” Liz said. Heather told Liz that they weren’t staying long and that they had exciting news. Heather told Liz not to take it personally, but she wasn’t going to stay with her after all.
“My son is taking me with him to Sedona,” Heather announced. She told Liz they were there to say goodbye. Before Liz could react, Laura walked off the elevator, and Heather ran over to hug her.
10/28 Laura was stunned to see Heather and Steven Webber by the hospital elevators. Heather joyfully announced that she was a free woman. Laura was confused as the last she had heard, Heather didn't want to be released. Heather told Laura that she'd changed her mind and had a great lawyer who got her off. Elizabeth took Steven aside to ask him if he was sure he wanted to take Heather with him to Sedona.
"If I don't take Heather on, who will? And maybe Mom and I can resolve a few things between us," Steven mused. Steven reasoned that Heather needed to be far from the people she'd hurt. Dante soon appeared and was shocked to see Steven there. He didn't think Steven would ever get Heather on the plane. Steven was sure that Heather would and that he could help her lead a productive life away from Port Charles.
Later, Elizabeth arrived to tell the waiting families that Sam was out of surgery, and it went well.
10/29 Lucky arrived at the hospital to check on Lulu while Aiden, Laura, and Elizabeth waited for news. Lucky quickly asked if there was any news about Sam and Lulu, so Laura updated him. Aiden and Elizabeth decided to head home since Lucky would wait with Laura. Lucky informed Laura he had spent the entire day jumping through bureaucratic hoops to obtain an emergency passport.
Laura asked if Lucky planned to use it, but he didn't answer. Laura mused that there was so much she didn't even know about Lucky's life. Lucky explained how he met Isaiah and how close they became when helping people in Africa. When Laura called Lucky brave, he admitted that Isaiah was, but that he was always running. Laura blamed herself for Lucky being a wandering soul. After all, she and Luke raised Lucky while on the run for the first 11 years of his life.
"That instinct is in you because of the way your father and I raised you," Laura said. As Lucky continued pointing out his faults, Laura tossed them aside and reminded Lucky how happy everyone was that he was there. "No matter where I go in the world, home is where you are," Lucky told Laura.
When Elizabeth returned dressed in her street clothes rather than her scrubs, Isaiah appeared with an update on Lulu. The surgery went well, and Isaiah was optimistic about Lulu's prognosis.
10/30 Jason saw Elizabeth and Portia run as an alarm began to go off. Alexis soon appeared with a worried look on her face, and Jason knew there was something very wrong with Sam. He quickly told Danny to take Scout to Bobbie's and wait for him. Scout didn't want to go, but Danny convinced her they could get cookies for Sam. Jason asked Alexis what was wrong, but she did not know.
Alexis told Jason that one moment Sam was fine, and then she wasn't. “One second, she's happy about her future, and the next second, her face just went completely white, and she couldn't breathe. She looked at me, and she was confused. And I didn't know what to do because I didn't understand. I'm scared,” Alexis said.
In Sam's room, Portia did chest compressions while Lucas used the defibrillator as Sam crashed. They wondered what had happened as her vitals had been fine. Portia said it could have been an embolism. The medical team did all they could for Sam, but finally, Portia told Lucas it was time. A tearful Lucas insisted that Sam was still there. Finally, Lucas did what he had to do. "Time of death. 5:48 PM," he said.
10/31 Alexis was determined to stay positive until they saw Elizabeth, Portia, and Lucas approach them. Portia immediately told Alexis how sorry they were as Alexis and Jason's faces turned white.
"Sam didn't make it," Portia finally said, but Jason had questions.
"When you say Sam didn't make it--" Jason started. Lucas cut him off and bluntly stated, "Sam's dead." Poor Alexis was in denial and kept repeating no. After all, she had just been with Sam, and Sam was just fine. Alexis could only insist that Sam just wanted to go home while Elizabeth looked at Jason to make sure he didn't fall apart.
"You're wrong because I am her mother. I am her mother and I would know if she was gone. I would feel it if she was gone," Alexis cried before walking away. Jason just stood there in utter shock and disbelief.
After Lucas and Portia were gone, Jason looked at Elizabeth in agony and asked what happened. Elizabeth explained that Sam experienced a cardiac arrest, but they didn't know what caused it. Jason finally remembered he was supposed to meet Danny and Scout at Bobbie's. "How am I supposed to tell them that their mom's gone?" he asked. Liz advised Jason just to be honest and keep things simple. She told Jason it was okay if he didn't have all the answers to their questions.
A composed Alexis finally left Sam's room and found Jason and Elizabeth. Jason assured her he would tell Danny and Scout about their mom, and Alexis would tell Kristina and Molly. Jason asked Alexis if it was okay with her if he said goodbye to Sam. After Jason walked away, Alexis broke down in Elizabeth’s arms. Alexis angrily told Elizabeth she wanted to see Portia and get answers about what happened to her daughter.
11/1 - 11/11 No Liz, no Lucky scenes aired
11/12 Laura asked Lucky to meet her at the hospital. When he arrived, she explained that Dr. Robinson had agreed to update them about Lulu. Portia reported that so far, Lulu’s recovery had been a success. Laura was concerned that she was on so many medications since that was what caused the coma to begin with.
Portia assured her it was safe and noted that Lulu would be transferred in a couple of weeks to a long-term care facility. Lucky thanked Portia for letting Isaiah operate. Outside of Portia’s office, Laura told Lucky that she didn’t want to send Lulu anywhere. “I want to keep her here with me,” Laura said.
Elizabeth met Jason at The Brown Dog and wanted to check on how he was doing. Jason said that there had been a lot of distractions since Sam died, but when he stopped to catch his breath, it still didn’t seem real. Jason worried about separating Scout, Danny, and Rocco. Liz agreed that Sam would want them together, but Jason said it wasn’t up to him. Liz suggested that Jason move into the Quartermaine mansion to keep everyone together. After Jason left, Lucky arrived and asked if he could join Liz. She said she would be mad if he didn’t. Liz said she’d heard that Lulu was recovering really well. They were both still trying to come to terms with how saving Lulu cost Sam her life.
“I thought I could fly in and save the day, but it turns out the real heroes were here all along,” Lucky mused.
Lucky admitted that he was heading back to Africa. “I’m sorry, Elizabeth. I can’t stay here in Port Charles,” he said somberly. Elizabeth was upset. Lucky didn’t know what good he was to Aiden and noted that he hadn’t been his father for most of his life.
“And now is your chance,” Liz said. Lucky admitted it was never his intention to stay. Liz told Lucky that Sam was one of the heroes he spoke about, and she was leaving behind broken-hearted children because she saved Lucky’s sister.
“Do you realize what Sam would give to have one more day, one more hour with her babies?” Liz said. She said if he did, he wouldn’t be asking for her blessing so he could abandon his son again. Elizabeth said he would get nothing from her, and leaving Port Charles would be all on him.
“And God forbid you pick that loving boy over your next great adventure,” Elizabeth told him before leaving.
11/15 Lucky went to see Sonny at the gym and told him he needed his advice. Sonny said he needed to hit something and release some anger. Lucky went to get some gloves so he could spar with Sonny in the ring. While they sparred, Lucky told Sonny that he didn’t know what he was doing in Port Charles, noting that it wasn’t his home and that he already felt like moving on again.
Lucky explained that he felt like he had a purpose when he was out in the world and didn’t feel like he could make a difference in PC. Sonny asked Lucky if he was unsure about leaving his family behind again. Sonny wondered if anyone would be waiting for Lucky if he went to Africa. Lucky explained he just gets off the plane and jumps in where needed. Sonny wondered what the rush was then. They talked about Laura and Lulu and how people in town wanted him to stick around, like Aiden.
“He’s used to me not being around,” Lucky said.
“That’s not a great thing, is it?” Sonny asked. Lucky wondered what he’d even do for work in Port Charles. He didn’t want to dig ditches or be a cop again. Lucky said he was looking for a way to fit in, but why should he stay if what he was looking for wasn’t there? Sonny offered to help Lucky get a job. Lucky said it would have to be legit. Sonny said he would be doing him a favor, but if he didn’t want to be there, he shouldn’t stay just because other people wanted him to. Lucky thought it made him sound selfish.
“Maybe…but maybe it’s time to move on,” Sonny suggested. Lucky said it felt wrong no matter what he thought he should do. Sonny advised Lucky to be his own man, like his father. He said whatever Lucky did, he would support him.
“You need to be honest about why you’re going. You need to be honest with your son, and you need to be honest with your mother. But especially with yourself,” Sonny said. Lucky said he needed to see someone. Sonny told him that he hoped he was going to stick around. After Lucky left, Sonny made a call and asked someone to set something up for “an old friend.”
Liz came into Teri’s office for an update. She promised to keep it a secret and was delighted to find out about Dr. Gannon’s job offer. Terry noted that Lucky would be happy if his best friend took the job and stayed in Port Charles.
“Dr. Gannon might end up sticking around, but Lucky’s already looking for his next adventure,” Liz said. Elizabeth didn’t understand why Lucky felt like he wasn’t of any use to anyone. She pointed out how he was there for his mom and Isaiah and how he had stepped up with Aiden.
“When things get real, Lucky takes off. I shouldn’t have been surprised,” Liz said. She admitted she was angry at herself for believing this time might’ve been different and Lucky might have stayed.
Elizabeth noted that she wished he would stay and that she envisioned her son having a dad and her having a co-parent. Terry wondered if she also hoped to have Lucky as a partner. Liz admitted she had crazy, mixed-up feelings about them being a family. Elizabeth told Terry that it wasn’t fair to her and Aiden that if he wasn’t going to stay and make a life there, then he needed to go.
Isaiah asked Lucky to meet him at the hospital. He told him that he was going to ask him to return to Africa but had just been offered a job as a surgeon at the hospital. Lucky thought it was a great opportunity. Isaiah asked if Lucky was going to stick around, but he wasn’t sure yet.
11/18 Elizabeth was surprised to see Aiden when she prepared to leave the nurses’ station. He took a ride-share over to see if Liz would let him drive her home and get some practice behind the wheel. Elizabeth told Aiden she wanted to talk to him about something, and he knew it had to be about Lucky.
"I wanted to prepare you for the possibility that your dad would be leaving town again," Elizabeth said. Aiden admitted that he pretty much expected that. Aiden was grateful that his father was still alive, noting Danny and Scout had lost their mom.
Lucky sat alone at Bobbie's until Brennan sat down to join him. Brennan introduced himself as the WSB agent who saved his life in Africa. Brennan told Lucky he was impressed with his work in Africa and had an offer for him. He wanted him to handle a "situation" in the same part of Africa that Lucky had just come from. "I need boots on the ground to gather intel," Brennan explained.
Brennan offered Lucky a flight out of Port Charles within 24 hours if he accepted the job. Seeing Elizabeth walk in gave Lucky some food for thought. After Brennan left, Lucky approached Elizabeth and told her that Brennan offered him a job in Africa.
11/19 Sam’s funeral - Liz & Lucky speak
Elizabeth shared how she and Sam didn't get along years ago but had since made amends and became friends. "We clashed. We hurt each other a lot. But I can honestly say I don't regret any of it because it made the place we got to that much sweeter. We went from being bitter rivals to co-parents raising our children...I wish we could go on growing as women and mothers but I can honestly say I'm grateful for where we landed. Thanks, Sam, for all of it," Elizabeth wistfully said.
Lucky spoke of Sam's sacrifice. His sister Lulu was dying, and only a liver transplant could save her. After Lucky's and Nikolas' livers didn't meet transplant criteria, Sam stepped up and gave a piece of her liver, which led to her death. “My family will forever be in her debt," Lucky said as Alexis sobbed.
Once the service was over, Gio played the violin as Sam's friends and family exited the church in tears.
The last scene is Lulu lying in her coma at Turning Wood. Suddenly, Lulu's eyes flashed open for the first time in four years.
11/20 Lucky and Elizabeth returned to Bobbie's after Sam's funeral. As they stood outside, they discussed Lucky's future. Elizabeth told Lucky he needed to figure out what came next soon, but he wasn't there yet.
"You don't have to tip-toe around Aiden or me, but you do have to make a decision and stick with it,” Elizabeth noted. Lucky confessed that he felt at home in Africa as doing aid work came naturally to him. Elizabeth said she somewhat understood, but she also needed him to be honest and direct with Aiden. Suddenly, Elizabeth spotted Lucas sitting alone through the window. She left Lucky's side to check on Lucas.
Lucky followed her inside. They sat down with Lucas, and Elizabeth told him how beautiful Sam's service was. Lucas explained that he didn't attend the funeral because he felt he could be the reason she died. Lucky and Elizabeth assured Lucas that Danny was just hurting because he had lost his mother, and Lucas was the easiest person to blame.
Lucas understood but admitted he had been blaming himself. Elizabeth knew there were questions about Sam's death but just wanted to wait for the autopsy report before jumping to conclusions and pointing blame. Just then, Portia called Lucas and told her that she had the results of Sam's autopsy. Lucas headed to the hospital to hear what Portia had to say.
Once alone, Lucky and Elizabeth discussed Sam's unusual death. Liz thought Sam seemed fine right after the surgery. Brennan soon appeared just as Portia texted Elizabeth to get over to the hospital fast. After Liz left, Brennan and Lucky discussed Brennan's job offer in Africa. Brennan continued to tempt Lucky before Lucas called and told him he might want to check on Elizabeth.
When Liz got to the hospital, she ran into Lucas at the elevators. He told her that he didn't cause Sam's heart attack. Portia then found them and asked to speak to Elizabeth alone.
In her office, Portia informed Elizabeth that Sam's death was caused by an overdose of a drug called Digitalis, a heart medication. Portia wanted to go over all of Elizabeth's notes as Liz insisted that Sam wasn't prescribed the drug and her team never gave it to her. Elizabeth wondered if she was to blame for Sam’s death.
At Turning Wood, a suddenly awake Lulu rubbed her eyes. She tried to sit up but felt a quick pain on her side where she'd just had a liver transplant. When she lifted her hospital gown she noticed her bandage and lifted it to reveal a fresh scar.
11/25 Lulu sat up in bed before putting both feet on the floor and taking several steps. Lulu could also hear Cyrus's voice outside the door, telling someone he had found a better facility for Lulu in South Carolina. Lulu got back in bed as soon as she could and once again feigned a coma.
Later, Lulu climbed out of bed and unhooked her tubes. She made her way across the room to open the door and sneak out while still wearing a hospital gown.
11/26 Elizabeth met with Lucky at Bobbie's. She asked him if he was leaving town. Lucky informed her that Lucas told him she was in some sort of trouble, and he wanted to help. Liz explained that Sam's autopsy results showed she died from an overdose of Digitalis. The hospital was investigating Elizabeth to learn if her negligence caused Sam to receive a medication she wasn't prescribed.
"The current theory is that someone grabbed the wrong drug and gave it to her accidentally," Liz told Lucky. She elaborated that morphine and Digitalis were kept in the same drug locker, so an accident was possible. However, Lucky didn’t believe it was probable.
When Liz admitted that humans make mistakes, Lucky agreed and said he knew first-hand. Elizabeth tried to excuse his mistakes, but Lucky actually owned up to them. She turned the subject back to Sam's death and insisted she knew she did nothing wrong. Lucky wanted to help Elizabeth get to the bottom of things.
Elizabeth then admitted that she was the last nurse to give Sam meds. Liz confirmed that the autopsy showed morphine in Sam's system, which meant the Digitalis was not swapped with morphine. Before they could continue, Lucky got a call from Turning Wood informing him that Lulu was missing.
Elizabeth and Lucky immediately drove to Turning Wood, where Lucky demanded to know how the facility had lost his sister. "My sister's in a coma. She didn't leave on her own initiative. Somebody must have moved her somewhere," Lucky said. Lucky was even more curious when he learned a fire alarm had been set off. After questioning the staff, Lucky and Liz learned that Cyrus was Lulu's last visitor.
11/27 Lucky was furious to learn that Cyrus had been spending time at Turning Wood visiting Lulu. The administrator said he thought Cyrus was authorized to act on behalf of the family. "Like hell he does," Lucky said. Elizabeth tried to calm Lucky down and be reasonable. As Lucky demanded to see Turning Wood's security footage, an orderly called Cyrus to let him know Lulu had vanished.
When the administrator said looking at the security footage would have to wait till morning, Lucky threatened to call the police. Elizabeth finally got Lucky to leave, but they headed straight to the Port Charles Grille to confront Cyrus. He claimed he had no clue as to Lulu's whereabouts. Lucky informed Cyrus he wouldn't be allowed to visit Lulu again, which annoyed Cyrus. He threw it in Lucky's face that he wasn't around enough to decide who counted as family.
"Spend more than a month with your own child, and then we'll discuss family,” Cyrus said. After Cyrus left, Lucky received the Turning Wood security footage on his phone. Lucky and Elizabeth couldn't believe their eyes as they watched Lulu wander the facility.
12/2 Laura was at home working with her assistant when Lucky walked in and asked for a few moments alone with his mother. When Lucky told her that Lulu was awake, Laura could barely contain her joy and excitement. Laura wanted to visit Turning Woods right away, but Lucky stopped her.
Laura was amazed when Lucky showed her the security footage of Lulu walking around Turning Woods as if she hadn't been in a coma for the last four years. Laura noticed how determined Lulu looked.
"I don't understand. She woke up, and she just walked out of Turning Woods?" Laura wondered before putting out an APB on her daughter.
Lucky asked Laura if she had authorized Cyrus to speak to Turning Woods about Lulu's care. Laura thought that was a preposterous idea and worried that Lulu had run away from the facility because she feared Cyrus. Laura was impressed Lulu created a diversion with the fire alarm. "I am so proud of her for that very Spencer mood," she said.
12/3 Dante brought Lulu to her mother's apartment. She hesitantly knocked on the door and was shocked to see Lucky standing there. "Where've you been, Lesley Lu?" he asked with a smile. Lucky sat Lulu down on the couch as she explained her eventful evening escaping from Turning Woods.
When Dante left, Lulu noted that something seemed off with him. Lucky thought that Dante was just in shock after Lulu just showed up at the Quartermaines. Lulu also marveled at the fact that Lucky was in Port Charles. Lucky explained that he came home when he learned she needed a liver transplant. Lulu assumed Lucky was her donor but asked why Nikolas couldn't donate his liver.
Lucky told her that he was a match, but Nikolas' liver was not suitable for a transplant. Lulu was pleased to hear her family rallied around her when she needed them, but then asked a bombshell of a question, "Does that mean Dad’s back in town, too?"
Lucky was forced to tell Lulu that Luke had died two years ago. Lulu insisted that couldn't be true. After all, Luke had been presumed dead before. She thought all they had to do was get word to him that she was awake and he would return to Port Charles. Lucky had to do some work, but he finally convinced Lulu that Luke was gone.
"Dad's been gone for three years, and I didn't even know," Lulu cried before falling into Lucky's arms. Lucky and Lulu sat down over coffee and discussed her childhood.
“Making Tracy my stepmother was probably one of the best things Dad ever did for me,” Lulu said. Lucky admitted that he didn't go to either of Luke’s memorials because he couldn't emotionally handle it.
Lulu then thanked Lucky for the liver. He was forced to tell her that he wasn't his donor but that Sam was. Lulu felt it was generous and wanted to thank Sam, so Lucky delivered the bad news that Sam died the day after the surgery.
"Sam died because of me?" Lulu asked in disbelief. Lucky assured Lulu that Sam's death had nothing to do with the transplant. Lulu was still curious. "Why would Sam risk her life for me?" Lulu asked. Lucky explained that Sam and Dante were engaged at the time of Sam's death.
“So while I was in a coma, Sam was Rocco's mom. Sam saved my life, and Dante lost her," Lulu said with a stark realization on her face. Lulu finally realized the reason for Dante's distance. "The look in his eyes. It was grief. Grief over losing the woman he loved," Lulu said.
Soon, Laura got a call from Lucky telling her that he was with Lulu. Laura quickly rushed out of her office to see her daughter.
12/4 Laura opened her front door to find Lulu in her living room. Laura was so shocked to see how well her daughter looked that both her purse and her jaw dropped to the floor. Mother and daughter shared a warm embrace. Lulu said she could feel Laura's presence when she visited during her comatose years. Laura worried that Lulu would become overwhelmed learning all the things she missed over the last four years. For now, Laura was just happy that Lulu was safe.
12/6 At the hospital, Elizabeth updated Lucas about Lulu. “Last I heard, she’s safe and surrounded by family,” Liz told him. Lucas wondered if that meant Lucky was sticking around. She shared that Lucky wanted to stay in town in part for Lulu but also to be there for Elizabeth in case she’s found at fault for Sam’s death.
Elizabeth shared with Lucas that she was under review because she was the nurse assigned to Sam the day that she died. Lucas was called away to be invited to an exclusive symposium in Miami. Brad overheard Lucas telling Elizabeth the details.
12/9 At another part of the plaza, Lucky ran smack dab into Elizabeth. She was glad to hear how well Lulu was doing. Lucky asked if Aiden was with her, but he was at the mall with friends. Lucky then volunteered to help Elizabeth pick out her Christmas tree. Lucky remembered how a big tree was Elizabeth's favorite thing about the holidays.
He pointed out that the smaller ones she was looking at would not suffice. Lucky would be happy to help her get a big tree into her house. After they found the perfect tree, they watched a guitarist perform and were reminded of their plans to move to New York City when they were teens. Elizabeth then became nostalgic.
"You were the first person to ever truly believe in me. You even got me believing in myself," she said. When they got Liz's new tree home, he noticed all her Christmas decor in boxes and offered to help her set it all up so they could surprise Aiden. When Liz thanked Lucky for his help, he said there was nowhere he'd rather be.
The conversation turned to his family and how hard it was for Lucky to tell Lulu that Luke had died. Elizabeth commented that she was always envious of Lucky's relationship with his father. She hoped to have that same kind of parent/friend relationship with her own kids one day.
Elizabeth was pleased when Lucky casually mentioned that he had decided to stay in Port Charles for the foreseeable future. She knew Aiden would be happy to hear the news. Liz said that she was happy for Aiden's sake. She also gave Lucky a surprise, Cameron's old guitar that was collecting dust in his room. Lucky sat down with Liz and played the song he had written for her when they were teens, “Elizabeth”. That led to a flashback moment from the 1990s.
12/12 At GH, Elizabeth checked in on Dex. Later as Liz and Felicia were at the nurses' station, an alarm sounded from Dex's room.
12/13 Josslyn arrived at the hospital and saw Liz and Dr. Gannon trying to save Dex. Horrified, she saw them using the paddles to try to revive him.
Later, as Elizabeth unhooked Dex from the machine. She told herself that it didn’t make sense that another person would die the same way. “Something very wrong is going on here,” she said.
12/16 Lucky met up with Elizabeth at the hospital at her behest. He was shocked when she told him another patient who was doing just fine died of a heart attack on her watch. Liz said the situation was too much like Sam's. Lucky knew that couldn't be a coincidence.
Lucky was further stunned to hear that the victim was Dex Heller. He wondered if an overdose of Digitalis killed him, but Liz pointed out that the toxicology report wasn't back yet, so she wasn't sure. Portia soon appeared and asked to speak to Liz alone in her office. Liz knew what the meeting would be about and asked Lucky to be there for moral support.
Once in her office, Portia informed Liz that Dex's death was an unexplained heart attack that would be added to the investigation into Sam's death. "While all of that is playing out, you'll need to take a step back from patient care," Portia said. Elizabeth could still do administrative work or opt for personal leave. Elizabeth chose the administrative route.
After meeting with Portia, Lucky took Elizabeth for a drink. Elizabeth admitted that she'd miss taking care of her patients but was glad she was still allowed to work. Her heart broke for Sam and Dex's loved ones. Liz also believed something was off. "This feels incredibly creepy," Elizabeth said.
12/17 Lucky stopped by Elizabeth's place with coffee, but Ric got their first with the same hot caffeinated wake-up beverage. Liz explained that she had told Ric what was going on at the hospital, so Ric was going to give her legal support.
“This investigation is going to get messy, and I want to make sure Elizabeth doesn’t get railroaded by GH's legal team," Ric said. Ric asked Lucky to leave, but Elizabeth wanted him to stay. Ric continued questioning Liz about everything that happened before and after Dex died. Lucky and Ric argued back and forth about what Elizabeth might need until she told them both to zip it.
"Two patients are dead. Can we just focus on that?" Liz asked. Elizabeth was almost sure that Digitalis was what killed Dex, just like it had killed Sam.
"Dex Heller was perfectly healthy...he was in full recovery. There was no reason he should have gone into cardiac arrest," Liz noted. Ric had some advice for Lulu.
"Steer clear of General Hospital," he warned. Lucky surprisingly agreed with Ric as both men tried to convince her to take a level of absence from the hospital. After Ric was gone, Lucky reminded Elizabeth that there were other lawyers out there.
12/18 Lucky and Elizabeth stood in her living room, trying to figure out what connected Dex and Sam other than having Liz as their nurse and dying from heart attacks. Suddenly, Aiden walked in and told them he had found a surprise lurking outside. That's when Cameron appeared, giving his mother the best Christmas present ever.
Liz embraced her son but was surprised to see a blonde girl named Gretchen walk in the front door. She was a "friend" of Cameron's from Stanford.
Cam was happy to see Lucky but had to give his mom some bad news. He was going to spend Christmas with Gretchen's parents in Key West, which was why he was in Port Charles a week before the holiday.
Although she was disappointed, Elizabeth decided they would just celebrate Christmas today. Liz was also pleased to hear her sons kept in touch via a sibling group chat. Cameron later took Elizabeth aside and apologized for wanting to spend Christmas with his girlfriend's family. Liz finally convinced Cameron to break out his guitar and sing them a festive song.
12/23 Laura happily greeted Lucky and Elizabeth at Rice Plaza. Aiden was out with friends so wouldn't be joining them. Laura couldn't believe her luck having Lucky and Lulu home for Christmas for the first time in years. Elizabeth was in awe of the tree. Lucky stared at Elizabeth as if he was in awe of her.
Dante and Rocco soon arrived. Rocco ran off to get a snack and Dante agreed to maybe stop by Laura's on Christmas Day. After Dante walked away to say hello to Laura, Liz noted that she could tell Dante was still grieving Sam and just going through the motions. Lulu finally joined Laura and Lucky.
12/30 Lucky joined Elizabeth at the hospital as her emotional support for a medical review record meeting. Liz told Lucky that he could go, so he listened to her but made her promise to call when it was over. When Liz walked into the meeting, she found Portia and Terry with the hospital lawyer. The lawyer immediately wanted to ask her a few questions. Elizabeth felt like she was being ambushed, so she threatened to leave unless she heard about Dex's autopsy before she said another word. Terry quickly told her what they'd all known all along. Dex had died from a lethal injection of Digitalis, just like Sam. Elizabeth didn't want to say another word without a lawyer, but Terry assured her that she wasn't being accused of anything. Portia called it an informational review. As the lawyer asked a silent Liz questions, Ric rushed in to stop the interrogation. Ric told Liz to come with him, but Portia tried to stop them. Liz didn't care and did what Ric asked.
However, the lawyer stopped her before she got through the door. They had identified a third patient who died from a heart attack in August. Liz opened her mouth to give an explanation, but Ric stopped her from incriminating herself. Portia explained that they would have to suspend Elizabeth if she didn't answer the lawyer's questions.
After leaving the hospital, Lucky ended up at the boxing gym, where he ran into Isaiah. Lucky asked Isaiah if he had seen Elizabeth while admitting it was driving him crazy not to be there with her. Isaiah informed Lucky that no medical record review was routine, as Liz had said. Lucky knew that. He was also sure the hospital should be looking for a murderer and not someone who made a mistake. Isaiah also advised Lucky to stay in town and be there for Elizabeth, so he stopped by Charlie's to apply for the bartender position.
Note: No Liz, no Lucky scenes from 1/2 - 1/13
1/14 In the hospital halls, Lucky approached a woman named Tanya, who worked with the Port Charles Redemption Mission. He asked her if she knew Cyrus. Tanya was happy to report that Cyrus was one of their "most committed members.” She told Lucky that Cyrus seemed most interested in helping long-term care patients.
Josslyn saw them talking and put her two cents in. She wanted Tanya and Lucky to know that she and Dex had seen Cyrus at Rice Plaza during the Christmas season. Tanya was proud of the work that Cyrus did at Rice Plaza. When Tanya had to leave for her appointment, Lucky asked Joss why she was curious about Cyrus.
Lucky told Josslyn how Cyrus creeps through the hospital halls and pours on his religious charm. He even had the staff at Turning Woods believing he could make decisions for Lulu. Josslyn relayed her own story. Felicia remembered that Cyrus stopped ringing his bell just before Dex was stabbed. The day before, Dex and Cyrus had shared words, but she didn't hear what they had said. Lucky was surprised when Josslyn told him that Sonny had asked Dex to kill Cyrus last year. Joss wondered if that's what Dex and Cyrus were talking about in Rice Plaza.
Lucas stopped by Elizabeth's house with some news. Someone tried to kill Michael with Digitalis. Elizabeth was stunned as she listened to Lucas' tale of Isaiah saving Michael's life before he went into cardiac arrest.
"So someone who has access to GH is using Digitalis to kill our patients," Liz said in amazement.
Liz texted Lucky to come over. When he arrived, she gave him the big news about Isaiah saving Michael from a Digitalis death. Lucky quickly asked if Cyrus was around before Michael nearly went into cardiac arrest. Lucas, Elizabeth, and Lucky sat down and put their heads together to figure out what was really going on.
The fact that Cyrus was most concerned with people who were isolated with chronic suffering piqued their curiosity. The patient who died of a heart attack before Sam had a chronic illness. Plus, nobody ever figured out why Lulu’s ventilator had malfunctioned before her transplant. However, they couldn't figure out how Dex and Sam fit the profile of the other patients.
1/15 Elizabeth and Lucky enjoyed a night out at the Port Charles Grill, where they watched cops ask Cyrus to come with them to the PCPD. Liz couldn't imagine it was about the Digitalis deaths. Since they were only there to stake out Cyrus, Elizabeth declared it was time to go. Lucky suggested they stay and have dinner. Elizabeth wanted to figure out how she could get closer to Cyrus and talk to him but that's the last thing Lucky wanted.
"Cyrus was a drug lord. He spent years in Pentonville. I don't want you going anywhere near him," Lucky pleaded. Elizabeth was not pleased with Lucky trying to tell her what to do. Besides, she felt she had to try and solve this mystery.
"I need to do this. For myself, for my staff, for Sam, for my hospital," Liz said. Lucky wondered if he’d forgotten how strong and resilient Liz was, but he wanted to be strong and resilient for her whether she needed it or not.
1/22 Lucky and Kristina quickly toasted to their fathers and the brand-new Charlie’s Pub just ahead of its grand re-opening. Maxie and Spinelli were the first to arrive on the scene, with Maxie raving about how much she loved Charlie's new energy and vibe. Lucky was happy to see Isaiah approach the bar. However, he was even more pleased when Elizabeth walked through the front door.
Liz headed straight to the bar and Isaiah made himself scarce so Lucky and Liz could talk. Liz was surprised to hear that Lucky might have found a lead in the Digitalis mystery. He summoned Marty to the bar and whispered to Elizabeth to take his lead.
Lucky mentioned to Marty that Cyrus had been visiting Lulu at Turning Wood and claimed he was representing the family. Liz mentioned how Cyrus was constantly with the terminal patients at GH. "Why do you suppose that is?" she innocently asked Marty. While Marty wasn't sure, he thought it had something to do with his and Cyrus' mother.
A drunken Cody walked around Charlie's making a menace of himself. He confronted Spinelli, who accused Cody of being the same grifter he has always been. When Spinelli turned his back on Cody, Cody grabbed his arm. Lucky stepped in and pointed out that this was a party trying to defuse the situation. Cody decks Lucky, telling him to take a nap, knocking him down.
1/23 Later at the PCPD, Elizabeth used the first aid items in her purse to tend to Lucky's battered face in the PCPD interrogation room. They discussed Cody's poker skills vs Lucky’s poker skills before Liz changed the subject to talk of Cyrus. They spotted Felicia and decided to ask her about the day Dex was stabbed. She told them the same thing she told Joss about Cyrus' bell, but couldn’t remember anything else. Felicia also mentioned that Cyrus had been banned from GH. She thought it was the right choice. Before the night was over, a drunk Cody got into a small bar brawl with Lucky and was hauled into the PCPD.
1/27 Lucky and Elizabeth arrived at Turning Woods to talk to a nurse friend who might be able to tell them which patients Cyrus had visited. However, they learned the nurse had called out sick that day. They sweet-talked another nurse into talking about Cyrus. Sadly, she only had glowing things to say about him.
"Uncle Cyrus asked if we could pick up a list of patients he volunteered with,” Lucky said. The nurse didn't think that was a good idea, so Liz stepped in and told her he didn't want all of them. She claimed Cyrus only wanted the names of the patients who had passed so he could send condolence cards to their families. The nurse finally gave in and handed over the names.
Just as she was printing the list, the administrator appeared. He wasn't happy to see Lucky after he had caused so much trouble when Lulu escaped.
Lucky improvised and told the administrator that his family was going to sue Turning Woods. That gave Liz the opportunity to grab the list from the printer.
Laura was happy to see Lulu in her office. She told Lulu she was worried about Lucky and felt he was heading for trouble. Laura was worried about how Lucky would react to learning Sidwell was back. She feared Lucky would go after Sidwell once he knew the man was in town.
2/3 Elizabeth got news of a heart attack victim at Turning Woods who didn't have a heart problem. When she gave Lucky the news, they wondered how many other people Cyrus had killed.
Laura stopped by Liz's place and stunned Lucky when she told him Sidwell was in Port Charles and she had met with him. However, Lucky was not surprised he would buy a place like Wyndemere. Elizabeth didn't quite understand how this murderous man was taking meetings with the mayor.
Lucky explained that the place where Sidwell tried to kill him had no laws. Laura assured Lucky that Anna and the WSB were keeping an eye on Sidwell.
Laura made Lucky promise her he'd be careful and not go after Sidwell. "I doubt he’ll come looking for a card game, but if he does, I will tell him to shuffle off," Lucky assured his mother.
Once alone, Liz had a pointed question for Lucky. "Are you just going to pretend that you don't care that the man who was holding you prisoner is here in Port Charles?" Lucky admitted that he did care and that being Sidwell's prisoner was "hell." Lucky also confessed that Jason had the chance to kill Sidwell when they were in Somalia, but Lucky convinced him not to.
2/4 Lucky explained to Elizabeth that he had killed in self-defense during his missionary days, but since Sidwell was unconscious, he told Jason not to kill him. Now, Lucky felt it was his fault that Sidwell was in Port Charles causing trouble.
"If I had let Jason kill Sidwell in that moment, it would have been purely about revenge. I didn't want to carry that burden the rest of my life," Lucky said.
"Revenge for what?" Liz asked. Lucky told Liz all about Sidwell having him beaten after a card game. Lucky admitted he felt both Luke's and Elizabeth's presence when he needed them most. Elizabeth was surprised to hear that she was on Lucky's mind. Lucky even saw her in his cell.
"Did I say anything to you?" she asked Lucky.
"You said I shouldn't quit, and I should get up off the floor and fight," Lucky answered. Elizabeth was touched that Lucky had used thoughts of her to get him through some rough times over the years but told him that she couldn't be anyone's angel.
2/5 A knock on the door interrupted Lucky and Elizabeth's romantic dance in her living room. Liz opened it to find Ric standing there, much to Lucky chagrin. Ric was there to deliver good news. Liz had been reinstated at the hospital. A happy Elizabeth thanked Ric, but Lucky wasn't as nice.
"GH caved because they want you to go away and I can relate," Lucky told Ric. Before Ric left, Lucky had a request.
"Can you find out the specific terms of Cyrus Renault's parole?" he asked. Liz told Ric that finding that info would be a personal favor to her but he was to ask no questions. Lucky even offered to pay Ric for his time. Ric agreed to do it for Liz pro bono.
Once alone, Lucky told Elizabeth he would go after Cyrus on his own, but Liz wanted in. They decided that they would frame him to make sure he was back behind bars where he belonged.
2/7 Liz calls her friend Gail at Turning Woods and thanks her again for all her help. After Gail hangs up, Cyrus shows up to visit Mrs. Brown. Gail tells Cyrus that unfortunately, he can’t see any patients until he talks to director Ferner. Ferner meets with Cyrus and explains he can no longer visit patients, as they had to take the mayor’s complaint about his visiting Lulu when he had no right to. He has also heard he’s been barred from visiting patients at General Hospital.
Cyrus overheard the nurse talking to Elizabeth earlier, and asks if she is the source of these lies about him. He fumes these patients need him, but Ferner says they’ll have to do without him.
Liz talks to Lucas about Cyrus and says she and Lucky are getting close to finding proof he’s guilty. Lucas warns her that Cyrus has already been tipped off that they are onto him, thanks to Joss. Liz says he needs to keep Joss away from Cyrus, as if he feels he’s cornered, and he’ll only get more dangerous. Suddenly, Cyrus appears in the distance, sees Liz talking with Lucas, and recalls his disturbed bible at his place.
2/10 While Cyrus lurked around the corner watching Elizabeth work at the nurses’ station, Ric approached her with flowers to welcome "Nurse Webber" back to work. Elizabeth was pleased with the flowers but reminded Ric she was now known as Nurse Baldwin. Cyrus listened as Liz thanked Ric for helping her fight the GH legal team. He even got to hear Ric telling Elizabeth that Cyrus had a pretty standard parole agreement. Ric got Liz to agree to take a walk while on her break.
At the park, Elizabeth couldn't stop thinking about the Digitalis deaths at the hospital. Ric warned Liz to be careful but she felt she was fine. "The hospital is the safest place for me to be because he's been banned from there," she said, referring to Cyrus.
Later, Elizabeth and Ric came upon Kristina and Ava arguing over Avery. Liz walked away with Kristina and tried to calm her down as Liz didn't think Ava seeing Avery was a big deal. Kristina begged to differ. "Ava can't have her daughter if I can't have mine!" Kristina shouted as Elizabeth gave her the side eye.
2/11 Kristina arrived for her shift at Charlie's a few minutes late, but Lucky didn’t mind. Kristina told him she almost never made it at all but Elizabeth helped out. When Lucky spotted Liz behind Kristina he asked how she saved the day. Elizabeth didn't want to talk about the incident in the park so Kristina told Lucky all about it, remarking that Liz her from killing Ava.
Soon, Isaiah arrived and told Lucky about Sidwell being in town. Lucky already knew and advised Isaiah to steer clear of the man. Isaiah then approached Liz to discuss the Digitalis deaths. They didn't get far in their talk when Marty arrived with Cyrus. Marty and Cyrus sat at a table in the corner as Cyrus hoped that being seen with Marty would get him in Lucky's good graces. All Lucky wanted to do was ignore his wayward uncle.
Danny barreled into Charlie's and got right in Cyrus' face. "I know you killed my mother," Danny accused. Cyrus shifted into religious mode and put his hand on Danny's shoulder, offering to help God relieve Danny's pain. Jason burst in and demanded, "Get your hand off my son," he ordered.
2/12 "You touch my son again and they will never find your body,” Jason shouted. Cyrus said he understood as Jason took Danny by the shoulder and led him out of the bar. After Charlie's closed, Liz stuck around as Lucky cleaned up. When the song they had danced to in her living room came on, Lucky and Liz danced again in an empty Charlie's Pub as Cyrus watched through the window
2/13 Ric came to the hospital to check on Elizabeth after the scene at the park with Ava. He said that Kristina could help Sonny win custody. Elizabeth didn’t think it was that bad of a situation. Ric confirmed that Elizabeth wouldn’t be testifying. He started to ask her to go out, but she got called away. Later, Chase came to the hospital and questioned if Elizabeth had heard Jason threaten Cyrus. She said she didn’t hear a word, and he’d have to rely on other witnesses.
2/17 Jason was impressed with Liz's determination and wondered if she and Lucky had figured out Cyrus' motive. Sadly, they still had no idea why he killed Sam.
“I do know that Cyrus is not going to stop killing until somebody stops him," she said. Jason agreed. He just didn't think the PCPD could get the job done. Elizabeth was going to try and trust the cops anyway.
Her next stop was Anna’s office, where the commissioner learned she had more amateurs on her hands, but those amateurs had found evidence. Liz explained how she and Lucky believed Cyrus had killed five people, two at Turning Woods and three at GH. Liz gave Anna evidence they had found in the dumpster outside Cyrus' building, including a receipt for a box of syringes addressed to a man named Paul Damascus.
Liz thought it made perfect sense for Cyrus to use a biblical name as an alias. Anna was impressed with Liz's handiwork and complimented her on her amateur detective skills. However, Anna didn't think there was enough solid evidence, but she would make some calls. That wasn't good enough for Liz.
"Anna, you have to do more than that. Cyrus will kill someone else, and you have to stop him," she said. Anna agreed and left the office but asked "Detective Baldwin" to wait.
2/18 Lucky arrived at Elizabeth's house with a temporary new face. Liz couldn't wait to tell him about her meeting with Anna. They were also pleased to see a Valentine's Day cake on the table that Aiden had made. Aiden soon entered the room with Tobias and introduced his boyfriend to his dad.
Aiden and Tobias were headed to the school's Valentine's Day skate event, but Aiden wanted to talk to Liz privately before they left. Aiden wasn't sure if Liz wanted to be alone with Lucky and offered to stay home rather than go skating. Liz told her son to go have fun, adding, "I kinda like spending time with your dad."
Once Aiden and Tobias left, Liz informed Lucky that Aiden had offered to be their chaperone. Liz explained that Aiden was just looking after her, as all her boys have done through the years. Lucky understood why Aiden was concerned. "It's not like I've been around and been someone you and Aiden could count on. It makes sense that he's scared you'd get hurt on my watch,” Lucky said. Liz planned to tell Aiden that he didn't have to protect her from Lucky cause she didn't need it.
Later, Lucky approached Liz in the kitchen and told her she was as beautiful as she was the day they met. Liz told Lucky to look closer so he did, leading to a kiss. After Lucky left, Elizabeth heard a knock on the door. She thought it was Lucky because he had forgotten his slice of cake. When Liz opened it, Cyrus was standing there.
2/19 Cyrus politely asked Elizabeth if he could come in because he had an urgent matter to discuss. Liz told him that it wasn't a good time and tried to close the door, but Cyrus wouldn't let her. "You don't understand. I'm afraid this can’t wait," he said before walking straight into a terrified Elizabeth's living room. Cyrus feigned surprise at Elizabeth's noticeable fear.
"I thought you would be excited to see me because there's so much you want to know about me. You have been asking around, yes? I thought I'd just give you an opportunity to ask me whatever you'd want right to my face," he said. Elizabeth didn't deny asking questions at Turning Woods. A visibly agitated Cyrus asked what she'd learned during her inquiries. Liz still did her best to get rid of Cyrus but finally gave up and started asking.
"Fine, I'll start at the beginning," she said. "Let there be light?" Cyrus quipped before Liz asked a shocking query, "Why did you try to kill Lulu?” Cyrus had no trouble giving Lulu a direct answer.
"My niece had been in a coma for four years with no sign that she would ever improve," Cyrus confessed. Liz pointed out that Laura and Rocco had never given up hope. "What was poor Lulu enduring while they were hoping?" Cyrus angrily asked. Cyrus reasoned that as a nurse, Liz was focused on the physical and what could be observed.
"As a man of God, I focus on what can't be observed, the spiritual. Are you spiritual, Nurse Baldwin?" Cyrus asked. Liz said that she was so Cyrus had hope that she would understand his motives. Cyrus explained his reasoning behind his killing spree.
"You've seen people trapped in a bed hooked up to machines, but just because people can be kept alive doesn't mean they should, yes?" he asked. Liz believed it should be the patient's choice, but Cyrus wondered what to do if the patient was incapable of making the choice.
Elizabeth said she had watched families make that agonizing decision for their loved ones, but then realized that Lulu was Cyrus' family and he was making a choice for her. Liz wondered why he killed the others, so Cyrus reasoned that they were all God's children.
"When I was volunteering, I had seen so many people trapped in their own hell, and I saw God had given me this mission to free these imprisoned souls," Cyrus rationalized in tears. Cyrus looked up at the heavens and felt God had wanted him to return these people to "the glorious light that leads to him." Cyrus broke down in hysterics and admitted he had to put Lulu out of her misery. "Wasn't Lulu entitled to that beauty?" he asked.
"So, that's why you turned off her ventilator," she said. "No, that was much later," Cyrus admitted. He first tried giving her a medication she didn't really need, which led to her liver failure. "If only the Lord had taken my sweet niece then," he sighed.
"I understand why you did what you did for Lulu and the other patients, but why Sam? Why did you kill Sam McCall?" Liz asked. Cyrus explained that Sam had gotten in the way of Cyrus' mission by trying to save Lulu.
"It was a consequence of her obstructing the Lord's will," he explained. When he killed Sam, it was the first time he realized he could use Digitalis to free all these other people.
"If it wasn't for Sam, I wouldn't have discovered Digitalis," Cyrus said. Liz understood. "It's fast, effective, and relatively painless," Liz nodded. She next asked why Dex had to die so Cyrus explained it was because Dex was getting too close to discovering what happened to Sam.
"So, you eliminated a witness? Forgive me for saying this, but that sounds less like the will of God and more like something the old Cyrus would do," Liz stated. Cyrus reasoned that Dex nearly killed him last year on Sonny's orders. Cyrus still claimed he didn't feel any malice toward Dex.
Cyrus was overcome with emotion when Liz understood that he had to kill Dex so he could continue his mission and free other souls. Finally, Elizabeth brought up Cyrus' dear beloved mother, who was also suffering in a long-term care facility.
"Yes, my mother's suffering is what has awakened me to my purpose,” Cyrus confessed. "If I could, I would set her free, just like any good son," he added. Liz felt she had Cyrus calm enough to listen to her, so she tried to feign understanding.
"Now I know your purpose is not unlike mine, to help and to heal," she said. Cyrus believed she understood that nothing could jeopardize the mission, so he removed the syringe of Digitalis from his pocket. He grabbed Liz's arm and got ready to inject before Lucky stormed in. Liz was able to get away and ran for her phone to call 911 while Cyrus and Lucky struggled. Liz's face went white when she saw the syringe in Lucky’s thigh.
