Jason & Sam #34 August 27, 2012 - January 14, 2013: 12 hour original edit on three dvds
DVD #34A Jason went to General Hospital to see Patrick. Jason asked Patrick if there was any connection between Jerry Jacks and Robin. Patrick demanded to know why it mattered, since both were dead. Jason recalled for Patrick that Jerry had shot Robin during the Metro Court Hostage situation and later he injected Nikolas with a poison and then denied the antidote until Nikolas bowed to Jerry's blackmail. Jason reminded Patrick that Nikolas had been saved when Robin, assisted by Patrick, had synthesized the antidote. Jason said he thought that Jerry Jax might still be alive. As Patrick considered the possibility, a nurse told them to watch the TV.
Jerry told his TV audience that he was responsible for injecting Josslyn and Alexis and making them sick. Jerry said that he had not been trying to hurt them but had been doing a good deed instead. He added that a confederate had helped him and had taken Josslyn. Jerry said that he wanted to make sure that Josslyn and Alexis would be safe during what was about to transpire in Port Charles. As a personal aside to Alexis, Jerry said that it had been wonderful to see her at Wyndemere, even if she did not remember. Jerry asked Josslyn and Alexis to forgive him for the bad night they had both gone through, but added that it had been necessary to inoculate them for survival. Jerry started coughing and was forced to stop talking and walk away. Once back on camera, Jerry told Port Charles that only Josslyn and Alexis would survive what was going to happen. Jerry told his audience that his henchmen had introduced a pathogen into the water supply during the early morning hours and that it would kill every Port Charles resident. Jerry said that it was already too late for those who had been in contact with tap water that morning, either by consuming it, as in coffee or tea, or using it for bathing or brushing their teeth. Jerry continued that the effects would begin being felt within 24 to 48 hours, and after that, everyone would be dead. Jerry added that people could save themselves with a very expensive antibiotic serum, but before he explained how, the TV screens around Port Charles went to white noise. As soon as Jerry mentioned a confederate, Jason was convinced that it was Ewen. Patrick listened to Jerry and worried about Emma. Jason worried that Elizabeth was with Ewen and asked Patrick to check on Elizabeth on his way home to be with Emma. Patrick agreed, and Jason hurried off. As soon as John McBain heard Jerry's announcement, he got on the phone and alerted someone that Jerry had hijacked the local cable system. Sam told John to be careful as he rushed out. Sam and Alexis watched the broadcast until it was terminated. Alexis paced, and Sam told her to calm down. Alexis said that she had three daughters and thus a reason to be concerned. Alexis recognized that Jerry did have a motive, that he wanted cash for the very expensive vaccine. She wondered why Jerry had spared her, and she said that she did not want to survive if those she loved did not. Sam told her to stop freaking out. Alexis phoned Molly, who headed home, but Sam was not able to reach Kristina. Alexis tried to leave to find Jerry, but Sam told her to slow down and give Jason and John a chance to work. As Jerry continued to reveal his plan, Ewen began to unravel. When he shouted at the TV and asked rhetorically if killing everyone had been Jerry's plan all along, Elizabeth finally got suspicious and questioned Ewen, who tried to explain, but Elizabeth did not believe him, even when Ewen assured her that he had bathed in the water and had drunk it just like she had. Elizabeth was upset and tried to leave the room, but Ewen grabbed her. Elizabeth was struggling and trying to get away when Patrick walked in and told Ewen to leave Elizabeth alone. John found Jerry, pulled the plug on Jerry's broadcast, and pulled a gun on Jerry. John relieved Jerry of his gun and told Jerry that he was under arrest. Jason arrived shortly after. John made phone calls while Jason took Jerry aside. Jerry inquired how it felt to Jason to be working with law enforcement. Jason said that it just meant that he had less time to get Jerry to reveal the location of the antidote. Jason punched Jerry in the stomach and Jerry doubled over. Despite a savage beating from Jason, Jerry refused to talk. When John urged Jerry to speak, Jerry asked if John and Jason honestly thought they could get him to talk. Before either could speak, all three were surprised when Jax burst in and said, "No, but I can." 8/28 At the cable station, Jerry warned Jason and John that they would never get Jerry to talk. "No, but I can," Jax said from the doorway. Jerry was shocked that Jax was in town instead of stranded in Shanghai. Jax realized that Jerry had been responsible for the delay in Shanghai, so he demanded to know if it was true that Jerry had put a pathogen in the water. Jerry nodded in confirmation as he revealed that everyone in town had been exposed. Jax couldn't understand why Jerry would do something so dastardly. Jason demanded to know if there was a way to undo what Jerry had done. Jerry refused to answer Jason's question, so Jax resumed the interrogation. Jerry assured Jax that Josslyn had never been in danger, but Jax didn't care because others that Jax cared about had been exposed to the poison. Jax was curious if Jerry had faked Jerry's death in an elaborate ploy to carry out the deadly plot. Jerry refused to reveal any details about his plan other than to admit that he'd had an accomplice. Jason wondered if Ewen had helped Jerry. Jerry remained tightlipped, but Jax wasn't fooled. Jax was certain that Jerry was hiding something. Jason pulled John aside to ask John to call off the police, so that Jason could question Jerry. Jason was confident that he could get some answers out of Jerry, but John believed that the police would have a better chance at forcing Jerry to reveal his secrets. The police arrived to take Jerry into custody. Jax was curious why Jason had asked Jerry about Ewen Keenan. Jason wondered if Jax recognized the name. Jax admitted that it sounded familiar, but he didn't know why. Jerry was escorted into the squad room. "Oh, home sweet home," Jerry sarcastically said, as he looked around. Dante ordered the police officers to take Jerry to the interrogation room. John wanted to sit in on the questioning, so Dante agreed. Meanwhile, Jax and Jason talked about Ewen Keenan's connection to Jerry. Jason told Jax about Ewen's suspicious behavior and link to Anchorage, Alaska. Jax agreed that Jason had good reason to be suspicious, but Jax didn't recall a connection between Ewen Keenan and the Jacks family. Jax suspected that the name had sounded familiar because Jax had kept up with the local news. Jax decided to check on his daughter, so Jason called Elizabeth, but it went to voicemail. In the interrogation room, Jerry refused to say anything about his plot. Dante decided that a night in lockup might loosen Jerry's lips. Jerry hoped that Dante and John had a good evening, because it might be their last. At the Webber residence, Ewen grabbed Elizabeth in a desperate attempt to make her understand that he wasn't involved with Jerry. Patrick appeared in the doorway and ordered Ewen to release Elizabeth. Ewen quickly dropped his hands and took a step back as Patrick advanced into the living room. Patrick stood between Ewen and Elizabeth as he confronted Ewen about Elizabeth's concerns that Ewen might be involved with Jerry. Ewen accused Jason of putting ideas into Elizabeth's head. Ewen reminded Patrick of Patrick's warning about Jason, and Patrick's personal experience with Jason. Ewen wondered if Jason had gotten to Patrick too. Patrick immediately backed down and apologized. Patrick admitted that he might have overreacted after seeing Jerry's broadcast. Elizabeth wanted an answer to her earlier question about Ewen's curious statement about Jerry. Ewen gave a flimsy excuse about only knowing Jerry from the things that he had read about the infamous Jerry Jacks.
Patrick suggested that Ewen leave so that Patrick could talk to Elizabeth privately. Ewen reluctantly agreed. Moments later, Ewen stood on the front porch and placed a call to Jerry, but the call went to voicemail. Ewen was furious that he had been dragged into the middle of Jerry's mess. Ewen had no idea what do to next. Inside the house, Patrick revealed that Jason had expressed concerns about Ewen. Elizabeth felt terrible because she doubted Ewen, but she conceded that Ewen's remarks had raised alarms. Patrick and Elizabeth were unaware that Ewen had slipped into the house and was lurking around the corner, eavesdropping on their conversation. Patrick and Elizabeth agreed that they needed to contact the police, so Elizabeth decided to call Dante. She froze when she spotted Ewen standing in the doorway, wielding a bat. "I thought you'd believe me," Ewen quietly said as Elizabeth's eyes rounded with fear. Later, Jason entered Elizabeth's house. He became concerned when he noticed signs of a struggle. Moments later, Jason spotted Patrick's unconscious body on the living room floor. 8/29 At the Webber residence, Jason became alarmed when he realized that there had been a struggle in Elizabeth's house. His concern grew when he spotted Patrick's unconscious body on the living room floor. Jason went to Patrick's aid as Patrick slowly opened his eyes.
Patrick accused Ewen of attacking him with a baseball bat and snatching Elizabeth. Jason called Dante to report the kidnapping, and then decided to call for an ambulance. Patrick argued that the hospital would be too busy treating people who had been exposed to the pathogen that Jerry had put in the water. Patrick insisted that he was fine, so he wanted to focus on finding Elizabeth. A short time later, Dante arrived. Jason and Patrick filled Dante in on what they knew, so Dante issued an APB for Ewen. Jason was concerned about Elizabeth because it was clear that Ewen didn't care about her, since she had been exposed to deadly water like everyone else. Jason was certain that Jerry would know where Ewen had taken Elizabeth, so Dante returned to the police station to question Jerry. Meanwhile, Elizabeth was trapped in a car with Ewen. She tried to persuade him to go back to her house before it was too late. Ewen refused to turn the car around, so she reminded him that Patrick had been hurt. Ewen was confident that Patrick would be fine, but Elizabeth argued that he couldn't be certain of that because Ewen had struck Patrick with a baseball bat.
Ewen insisted that Patrick would walk away with just a concussion, but Elizabeth reminded Ewen that he had been seriously injured when Kate had struck Ewen over the head in a similar manner. Ewen insisted that he just wanted the opportunity to explain things to Elizabeth so that she could understand why he had done what he had. Elizabeth tried to sneak a call to Jason, but Ewen caught her. He nearly swerved the car off the side of the road as he tried to get the phone away from her. Elizabeth distracted Ewen by agreeing to hear him out. She was stunned when he confessed that he had snatched Josslyn, because she couldn't believe that Ewen had turned Josslyn over to a sociopath like Jerry. Ewen explained that he hadn't had a choice, because Jerry knew something about Ewen that Jerry had held over Ewen's head. Elizabeth wanted to know what it was, but Ewen insisted that it didn't matter because the point was that Ewen had been working with Jerry against his will. Ewen assured her that he had never meant for anyone to get hurt, especially Elizabeth, because he cared about her. Elizabeth warned Ewen that he was out of his mind if he thought that they could have a future together after what he had done. Ewen was confident that he could still be the man that Elizabeth wanted. Elizabeth decided to make another attempt to escape by pointing to something on the side of the road and imploring Ewen to pull over. Ewen was shocked when Elizabeth tried to jump out of the moving car, but he recovered quickly and pulled her back in. He reminded Elizabeth that she had to stay alive for the sake of her children, so she needed to trust him, because he was her only hope for survival. Elizabeth refused to give up, as she secretly dialed Jason's cell phone number again. At the police station, Jason was relieved when Elizabeth called. However, he realized that Elizabeth was still in danger because he could hear Ewen talking to her as Elizabeth tried to get Ewen to tell her where he was taking her. Dante quickly arranged for a tech person to trace the call so that they could figure out where Elizabeth was. Jason's concern mounted when Ewen discovered that Elizabeth had successfully called him. Ewen grabbed Elizabeth's cell phone and threw it out the window.
Desperate to find Elizabeth, Jason stormed out of the interrogation room to question Jerry. Dante ordered Jason to stop. In the car, Ewen was furious that Elizabeth had called Jason. Ewen insisted that Elizabeth shouldn't have done that, because Ewen had only been trying to help her. 8/30 Mayor Lomax pushed her way through a sea of reporters to enter the police station. She was relieved to see John because he had been highly recommended by the FBI. Mayor Lomax revealed that the FBI had appointed John as their representative because he had been exposed to the pathogen that Jerry had unleashed. John assured Mayor Lomax that Dante had been doing an impressive job managing things, but Mayor Lomax wanted John to be in charge of the crisis. At the hospital, Patrick left Jason a voicemail message, asking Jason to call with an update about Ewen and Elizabeth. Jax, Carly, and Josslyn walked up in time to hear Patrick's message. Jax and Carly wanted to know what had happened, so Patrick told them that Ewen had attacked him and kidnapped Elizabeth. Jerry endured a violent coughing fit, which quickly subsided when the guard announced that Jerry's attorney had arrived. Jerry's face lit up as Alexis stepped forward. Jerry had been waiting for her to arrive. Alexis made it clear that she was there to save her daughters. Alexis pleaded with Jerry to give her an antidote for Sam and Molly, but Jerry explained that it was too late because Alexis' daughters had already been exposed to the pathogen. Alexis revealed that people were getting sick, but Jerry insisted that he couldn't help them. However, he promised to take care of Alexis. Alexis begged Jerry to prove that he had empathy by doing the right thing. Her eyes narrowed when he readily agreed to save everyone for her. Alexis promised to do whatever he wanted, so Jerry wondered if she was prepared to spend an entire night with him. She assured him that she would do whatever it took to save her daughters. Jerry admitted that, as much as he would love to spend the night with Alexis, he couldn't release the counteragent for the simple pleasure of her company. Alexis was furious. She told him to go to hell because she was tired of his games. Jerry was curious if she hated him, so Alexis agreed to say whatever he wanted to hear as long as he saved her daughters. Jerry demanded the truth, so he asked her if she had ever cared about him. "Yes. I thought you were damaged, but salvageable," Alexis answered. Satisfied, Jerry agreed to tell her what he wanted in exchange for the antidote. In the squad room, Sam waited as John finished up with Mayor Lomax. John revealed that the pathogen was being analyzed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but he had no idea how long it would take to find a counteragent. John explained that Jerry wasn't cooperating, so they needed to find Ewen. John hoped to pit Ewen and Jerry against each other to force one of them to hand over the antidote. After Mayor Lomax left, Sam approached John. Sam was surprised when John confided that Alexis had agreed to represent Jerry in the hopes of getting the antidote for the pathogen. Moments later, Jax arrived to talk to Jerry. Alexis entered the squad room as John explained that Alexis was with Jerry. Alexis was startled to see Jax. After Alexis and Jax warmly greeted each other, Jax explained that he had been exposed to the deadly pathogen too. Alexis announced that Jerry had named a price. She handed a piece of paper to John and then turned to Sam. Alexis asked Sam to meet her at the lake house after Sam finished up at the police station, because Alexis wanted her daughters close to her during the crisis. At the police station, Sam and Jax were curious what Jerry had asked for. "Eighty-eight million, one-hundred-eleven thousand dollars," John answered. Sam and Jax looked at the paper, as they realized that the amount wasn't a random number. The numbers represented the cards that Wild Bill Hickok had been holding at the time of his death. The Dead Man's Hand was comprised of two eights, two aces, and one Jack of diamonds. Nearby, Todd arranged to see Jerry. "You and I have some business to discuss," Todd told Jerry. 8/31 Spinelli updated Jason on the investigation into Ewen's past via a video chat. Spinelli revealed that Ewen had treated John Jacks in Alaska for severe depression. According to Spinelli, a few months into the treatment, John had sought alternative remedies in Arizona, without success. Spinelli revealed that Ewen had flown to Arizona to oversee John's treatment, but John Jacks had died a short time later. Spinelli regretted that it wasn't enough to prove to Elizabeth that Ewen was dangerous. Jason admitted that it didn't matter, because Ewen had kidnapped Elizabeth. Alarmed, Spinelli wondered if Ewen was capable of hurting Elizabeth. Jason didn't have an answer. Spinelli reminded Jason that Elizabeth was wise and beautiful, so Spinelli was confident that she would be able to keep things under control until she could reach out for help. Jason explained that Elizabeth had called him, but they hadn't been able to zero in on her location. Spinelli was curious if Jason had recorded the call because Spinelli might be of assistance. Jason quickly sent Spinelli the recording of Elizabeth's phone call. Spinelli managed to glean a few clues by listening to the recording. Spinelli heard the distinct sound of St. Mary's church bells in the background of the recording, so he narrowed down Elizabeth's location to within a mile of the quarry. Jason quickly fetched his gun. Spinelli promised to return to Port Charles as soon as possible, but Jason warned Spinelli that the town had been quarantined, so no one was allowed in or out. Jason promised to let Spinelli know when it was safe to return and then ended the chat. Spinelli looked up the Sun online, which boasted the headline, "We're Toast." At the police station, Sam and Jax explained that the numbers in Jerry's ransom demand represented a run of cards known as the Dead Man's Hand. Wild Bill Hickok had been holding the infamous cards when he had been shot to death. John wondered why Jerry would base the ransom on the Dead Man's Hand. Jax revealed that the Dead Man's Hand had played a big part in the Jacks family history. Jax's father, John Jacks, had attributed the family's prosperity and good fortune to the Dead Man's Hand, which were considered lucky cards. However, things had taken a dark turn when someone had stolen the Dead Man's Hand from John Jacks. John wondered if the Dead Man's Hand could lead them to the counteragent. Sam interrupted the discussion to ask if anyone else felt odd or warm. John noticed that Sam looked ill, but Sam assured him that she was fine and invited Jax to continue with his story. Jax admitted that his father had never been clear about how the Dead Man's Hand had ended up in the Jacks family, but Jax had always had the impression that John Jacks had won them in a card game. Jax didn't know how the cards factored into Jerry's demands, but Jax was determined to find out. Sam, who had complained of a sore throat and headache, wondered if John knew where Jerry might have stashed the counteragent. John shook his head and asked if she had any idea where the Dead Man's Hand was. On the outskirts of Port Charles, Ewen paced the floor of an old farmhouse. Elizabeth sat on a chair, with her hands bound in front of her, watching him. She urged Ewen to get some rest, but Ewen refused. Elizabeth was curious why they were in the old house. "I came here for this," Ewen announced, as he pulled a gun out of a drawer. Ewen revealed that the house belonged to him. He had purchased it when he had arrived in Port Charles because it had reminded him of home. Elizabeth was curious about Ewen's life in Australia, so he told her that he had been raised on a farm until his father had lost everything. Ewen blamed John Jacks for the Keenan family's misfortunes because John Jacks had taken the Dead Man's Hand from Ewen's father. Ewen explained that once the lucky cards had landed in John Jacks's hands, the Keenan family's finances had dwindled until the bank had foreclosed on the farm. Ewen's father had died a broken man, while the Jacks family had flourished. Ewen had vowed to reclaim what had rightfully belonged to his family, so Ewen had followed the Jacks family to Alaska. Elizabeth was stunned when Ewen confided that he had treated John Jacks for depression and then had followed John Jacks to Arizona, where Ewen had killed the elder Jacks with an injection. Ewen confessed that Jerry had witnessed the whole thing but hadn't tried to save John Jacks's life. Afterwards, Jerry had used the murder as leverage to force Ewen to do unforgiveable things. Elizabeth wanted to know what those things were, but Ewen refused to elaborate. Ewen waved the gun around as he announced that he intended to track Jerry down and force Jerry to reveal where the counteragent was. Ewen promised to return with the cure, but Elizabeth didn't want to be left behind. Ewen explained that he cared too much about Elizabeth to let her near Jerry. Elizabeth and Ewen jumped when the door suddenly burst open and Jason appeared in the doorway with his gun aimed at Ewen. Ewen grabbed Elizabeth, pointed his gun at her, and threatened to kill her if Jason took another step. 9/4 In the squad room, John and Sam tried to figure out where Jerry might have stashed the counteragent. John suspected that the cure was with the Dead Man's Hand, so he wondered if Sam knew where the cards were. Sam confessed that she had last seen the infamous cards when Jax had thrown them at her. She assured John that it had been justified. Sam revealed that she had spent a long time chasing after the cards, not realizing until it was too late that they had been bad luck for her, so she had walked away from them. According to Sam, the cards had ended up in Tracy Quartermaine's possession. John decided to start his search at the Quartermaine mansion, so Sam went with him. John and Sam arrived at the Q mansion in their search for the Dead Man's Hand. Tracy informed them that she was busy with a life-or-death matter. John warned Tracy that his business was equally important. John quickly filled Tracy in on why he needed to find the cards, so Tracy revealed that Luke had had the Dead Man's Hand last. John and Sam were curious if Tracy knew where Luke might have hidden the cards, so Tracy suggested that they check the Haunted Star. At the Haunted Star, Sam stumbled a bit, as she and John made their way to Johnny's office. John worried about her, but Sam assured him that she was fine. John was frustrated when he spotted the safe, because he realized that he wouldn't be able to open it. Sam revealed that she had a talent for breaking into safes, so she went to work on it and quickly gained access it. Sam saw a familiar box, but the cards nestled inside weren't the original Dead Man's Hand. Moments later, Sam announced that she had spotted something else inside the safe. At the farmhouse, Ewen used Elizabeth as a human shield while he threatened to shoot if Jason didn't lower his gun. Jason refused, so Elizabeth tried to calmly persuade Ewen to put the gun down before things escalated. A fevered Ewen was beyond rational thought as he vowed to be the one to give Elizabeth a cure for the pathogen. Jason admitted that he knew about Ewen's connection to the Jacks family, so Ewen wondered if Jason knew everything. Jason realized that Ewen had killed John Jacks. Ewen angrily accused Jason of trying to prove to Elizabeth that Jason was better for her than Ewen was. Ewen threatened to kill Jason if Jason didn't cooperate. Jason urged Ewen to release Elizabeth, but Ewen refused to let the woman he loved go. Ewen wanted her to see him as the hero, not Jason, so he shot Jason in the leg. Elizabeth was frantic to get to Jason, so she struggled violently to get free as she screamed that she wanted nothing to do with Ewen. Ewen's grip slackened as he realized that Elizabeth loved Jason, not him. Jason waited until Elizabeth was safely away from Ewen before he shot Ewen in the stomach. Ewen crumpled to the ground in agony as Elizabeth got the gun away from Ewen and then raced to Jason's side.
Ewen cried out for help, while Jason cut the tape binding Elizabeth's wrists. Jason regretted that he hadn't rescued her sooner, but Elizabeth merely focused on tending Jason's gunshot wound. Afterwards, Jason aimed the gun at Ewen, while Elizabeth checked Ewen's injury. Elizabeth warned Jason that Ewen would die if they didn't get Ewen to the hospital. At the hospital, Elizabeth helped a limping Jason to the nurses' station. Nearby, Ewen was on a gurney, groaning in pain. Elizabeth feared that Jason had nicked an artery, so Steve instructed her to take Jason to an examination room. Kate begged Steve to help Ewen and reminded him of his oath to do no harm. Steve reluctantly followed Ewen's gurney. In the examination room, Elizabeth cleaned Jason's gunshot wound. She recalled Jason being in a similar situation years earlier when she had found him in a chapel and taken him to her studio. Jason wondered how many times she had saved his life. Elizabeth insisted it didn't matter, because he had saved her life earlier. Jason admitted that Spinelli deserved the credit for locating her, so Elizabeth promised to thank Spinelli the next time that she saw him. "You know how I feel about you. I wasn't going to let that bastard hurt you," Jason solemnly confessed. 9/5 At the Haunted Star, Sam handed John a note that she had found in the safe. "You were right. Find the cards, find the cure. Unfortunately, you're just a little too late," John read. John decided to return to the police station to talk to Jerry. Sam started to follow John, but she became dizzy and fainted. John rushed to her side. A few minutes later, Sam slowly opened her eyes. John explained that she had hit her head when she had passed out, so he wanted her to take it easy. Sam started to sit up, but she was hit by another wave of dizziness. John feared that Sam might have a concussion, but she assured him that she was fine. John examined the cut above her eye, as he gently cradled her in his arms. Awareness flared between them as they stared in each other's eyes. Sam broke the spell by urging John to go to the police station without her. John refused to leave Sam behind, so he picked her up and carried her out. In an examination room, Elizabeth finished cleaning and wrapping Jason's gunshot wound. Jason was more concerned about how she was holding up after the ordeal with Ewen. Elizabeth assured him that she was fine, but her eyes filled with tears. Jason held her as she cried. Elizabeth regretted that she had trusted Ewen instead of seeing him for who he was, but Jason insisted that it wasn't her fault. Elizabeth thought that it was ironic that everyone had praised Ewen for being wonderful, while reminding her that Jason was a killer. "Turned out, it was the other way around," Elizabeth said before she left to fetch some antibiotics for Jason. She returned a short time later with a syringe. She gave Jason an injection of antibiotics as she explained that the hospital was swamped, so it would be awhile before a doctor could remove the bullet from Jason's leg. Elizabeth felt terrible that Jason had been shot while rescuing her. Jason assured her that he didn't blame her for anything; he was just happy that he had been able to get to her in time. "Me too," Elizabeth admitted. Jason reminded Elizabeth that she hadn't fully trusted Ewen in the beginning, but she argued that she had convinced herself that Ewen was the right man for her.
Jason felt bad for Elizabeth because she had been hoping for a good relationship. Elizabeth started to tell Jason something, but John entered the room, looking for someone to help Sam. John, Sam, Jason, and Elizabeth all stared awkwardly at each other until Sam broke the silence by assuring everyone that she was fine. John disagreed and filled Elizabeth in on Sam's fainting spell and injury. Elizabeth checked the wound and assured Sam that stitches weren't necessary. However, Elizabeth insisted on cleaning the gash. Sam asked about Jason's leg, so Elizabeth revealed that Ewen had shot Jason after Ewen had kidnapped Elizabeth. John was surprised that Ewen had gained the upper hand with Jason, so Jason admitted that he had shot Ewen in the stomach. Sam wondered if Elizabeth was okay. Elizabeth nodded as she credited Jason for saving her life. Moments later, someone called to report to John that Jerry had escaped from police custody. John ended the call and announced that he had to get to the police station because Jerry was on the loose. Jason started to go with John, but Elizabeth made it clear that Jason couldn't go anywhere while the bullet was lodged in his leg. Meanwhile, John gently told Sam to take care of herself. "See you around," John said from the doorway. "I hope so," Sam quietly replied, as Jason and Elizabeth watched. Moments later, Steve arrived to fetch Elizabeth. Elizabeth followed Steve to the lab to draw Tracy's blood. Joe squirmed as Steve explained that Tracy's blood might hold the answers that they were looking for. "This can't be the end," Jason said as he and Sam sat in the examination room. Sam reminded Jason that they might only have forty-eight hours to live, but Jason was confident that it was enough time to turn things around. Sam confessed that she couldn't stop thinking about how things might have turned out if she and Jason had made different choices and her baby had lived. 9/6 Heather overpowered the nurse and then stole her uniform. "Oh, my sweet baby boy, Mommy made a boo-boo," Heather said without a hint of remorse, as she buttoned up the uniform. Heather promised to learn from her mistakes and do better the next time, which she hoped would be right around the corner. Later, Heather arrived at 1970 Lindbrook Road. Heather hoped that she was at the right address because it would have been a shame to have killed the nurse and traveled a considerable distance only to end up in the wrong place. Heather gave herself a quick pep talk and then reminded herself that the reward would be worth it. Moments later, Heather knocked on the door. Téa Delgado, holding the baby, opened the door. In the examination room, Sam admitted that she couldn't stop thinking about how things might have been different if her baby had lived. Jason assured Sam that he would always be sorry for Sam's loss and the role that he had played in it. Sam explained that it wasn't about casting blame, because they had both made mistakes. Sam believed her mistakes had started with Heather Webber. Sam reminded Jason that they had just made it through the nightmare of what Franco had done to them. Sam appreciated that things hadn't been perfect, but she and Jason had moved forward and had been focused on their future. Sam confessed that her mistake had been to follow up on the DVD that Franco had left on the balcony. She admitted that she often imagined what it would have been like if she hadn't talked to Heather. Sam's fantasy began at Ferncliff when Heather offered to share the details of Susan's delivery for a price. Sam immediately lost interest, so she stood up to walk away. Heather warned Sam that the information was life-changing, but Sam insisted that she knew what she needed to know, so everything was perfect the way it was. Sam's story picked up at the penthouse, as Sam returned from Ferncliff. Sam smiled with happiness when Jason joined her in the living room. She confessed that she had left Ferncliff without hearing what Heather had wanted to say. According to Sam, she knew what she needed to know about the baby on the DVD; he had grown up to be the man that she loved and the father of her child, so nothing else mattered. Jason smiled with joy as he kissed Sam. Sam's fantasy faded as she glanced at Jason. Jason winced in pain, so she realized that his leg was hurting. Jason assured her that he was fine, which didn't surprise Sam, because he rarely complained. Sam promised Jason that she would always care about him, so Heather hadn't taken that. Sam softly confided that she believed that she and Jason would have made love on that fateful day, after she had returned from Ferncliff. Moments later, Alexis called to check on Sam. Sam assured her mother that the doctors were working on a cure and then ended the call. Sam realized that Alexis might outlive her children. "Just like you and me," Sam added. Jason was quiet as Sam continued her story about what their lives could have been like. Sam saw them attending Lamaze classes, led by Epiphany, and enjoying a baby shower surrounded by family and friends. Sam snapped back to the present when Jason started to slide off of the examination table. She demanded to know what he was doing, so Jason explained that he intended to find the counteragent, because it wasn't their time to die. Sam pointed out that Jason had a bullet in his leg, so he couldn't go anywhere. She asked him to stay, because sharing her story with Jason was the only thing that kept her calm. Jason nodded, so Sam picked up her story at the baby shower as everyone scrambled to get Sam and Jason to the hospital. Sam imagined that the baby's birth would have paved the way for Maxie and Spinelli to work things out. Jason chuckled, so Sam grinned as she reminded him that it was her story. Sam continued her tale with everyone arriving at the hospital. Their loved ones were happy and excited for Sam and Jason. Monica made a point of assuring Jason that his father, Alan, would be watching over Jason, Sam, and the baby. Later, Jason held Sam's hand as she panted through labor and struggled with doubt about her ability to be a good mother. Jason assured Sam that she was ready to be a mother and remained by her side until their son was born. Sam revealed that she couldn't count the number of times that she had dreamed of hearing the words, "You have a healthy baby boy." Sam confessed that she would give anything to have heard that. "Me, too," Jason quietly admitted. Sam picked up her fantasy after the birth of their son. Jason called Carly to tell her about the baby, but he had made it clear that they would not be naming the child Jason. After Jason ended the call, Monica approached him. She cautioned Jason not to take the baby for granted. Jason apologized for the way that he had treated Monica and Alan over the years, but she refused to let Jason take the blame. Monica insisted that she and Alan had made countless mistakes with Jason and A.J., but she promised him that she and Alan had loved them. Meanwhile, Alexis cooed to the baby as she admitted that she felt blessed to have a grandson and Sam for a daughter. Alexis breathed in the baby's scent, and confided that he smelled like Sam had as a newborn. Sam was surprised that Alexis remembered, so Alexis explained that she remembered everything, because she'd only had a few precious memories of Sam before Mikkos had taken Sam away. Sam's story continued in the penthouse, as Sam and Jason arrived home with their newborn son. The living room had been transformed into a nursery. Jason admitted that he'd had nothing to do with it. They found a card from Edward, congratulating them on the birth of their son, and an envelope with paperwork setting up a college trust fund for the baby. Jason was deeply moved by his grandfather's gesture. Sam pointed out that they needed to choose a name for their son, so that they could complete the paperwork that Edward had given them. Sam wanted to name their son after someone they had both cared about. "Daniel," Sam softly suggested. Jason liked the idea of naming their baby after Sam's brother who had passed away. Sam smiled and decided to let Jason choose Daniel's middle name. "Edward," Jason decided. In the examination room, Jason confessed that he liked the name Daniel Edward Morgan. Sam revealed that her son had looked a lot like Jason, especially when the baby had frowned. Sam's eyes filled with tears as she confessed that she had spent a lot of time lost in her fantasy, but it was never enough, because she was always greedy for more. Sam imagined what their lives would have been like a few years into the future. Sam pictured herself holding their daughter, Emily, on the baby's first birthday. Jason and their son, Danny, entered the room with a special present for Emily and a family picture, which had been taken earlier that day, for Sam. Jason smiled, because Sam had envisioned them having two children. Sam chuckled as she reminded him that she was greedy. She admitted that she had always hoped to have two children with Jason, a boy and a girl. However, her story had just been a fantasy, because the reality was that her son had died, while she and Jason had lost each other along the way. Sam didn't want to spend the last hours of her life, lost in a dream that would never be. She was determined to spend what time she had left in the present, because no matter how many stories she told, she and Jason knew what had really happened. 9/7 In Llanview, Téa was pleasantly surprised by Heather's visit. She invited Heather inside and then explained to the baby that the woman before them had saved his life. Téa confessed that she had thought of Heather often. Heather smiled as she admitted that she was in Llanview because of Victor. Téa apologized because she couldn't remember Heather's name, so Heather introduced herself as Susan Moore. Heather claimed that Todd had given her Téa's address. Téa revealed that she had heard about the health scare in Port Charles, so Heather assured her that it was nothing more than media hype. Téa was curious what had prompted the visit. Heather explained that it was about the baby. "I'm sorry Téa, he isn't yours," Heather revealed. Téa put Victor in the playpen and then asked Heather to explain herself. Heather smiled innocently as she explained that the Chinese believed that a person who saved another would always be responsible for the life that they had saved. Téa relaxed as Heather promised to always watch over Victor. Téa admitted that Victor didn't have a lot of family, so Téa welcomed Heather's support. Heather claimed that she had always asked about Victor, but Todd had never said much, so Heather had decided to visit. Heather asked to hold Victor, so Téa fetched the baby and handed him to Heather. Heather became emotional as she talked about how it had felt to save Victor's life. Heather was curious if Victor had any medical problems, so Téa admitted that Dr. Webber at General Hospital had diagnosed Victor with a genetic blood disorder. Heather beamed as she confessed that she had heard of Dr. Webber. Téa explained that the disorder could be managed, provided that Victor was closely monitored and received immediate treatment when it became necessary. However, Téa had no idea how Victor had inherited the disorder, because no one in Téa's family or her husband's family had ever heard of it. Moments later, Téa's cell phone rang. Téa noted that it was her office calling, so Heather assured Téa that she wouldn't mind if Téa took the call. After Téa stepped out of the room, Heather whispered to the baby that they both knew that Téa wasn't his real mother. In the examination room, Sam regretted going to see Heather about Franco's DVD. Sam admitted that she had been angry at Jason, because as long as it had been his fault, she didn't have to think about what had happened after her son's birth. Sam explained that she barely recalled sitting in the motel room with the baby. She believed that it had stopped raining, but she couldn't understand why she had decided to wrap her son in a scarf instead of a warm blanket. Sam didn't know why she had left the room with the baby or walked down a dark street either. Jason reminded Sam that she had been concerned about the baby's breathing, so she had been looking for help. Sam insisted that it had been stupid to wander into the woods with the baby and leave her newborn alone. "My baby died because of me," Sam cried. Jason held Sam in his arms as she wept. Jason gently reminded Sam that the baby had died of respiratory failure, not because of something that she had done. He insisted that she had done the best that she could. Jason pointed out that Sam had been so weak that she hadn't even recognized her son when Jason had handed the infant to her. Sam argued that she had been in denial and then confessed that a part of her believed that her son would still be with her if she had held on to him. Jason reached for her hand and held it. Moments later, Patrick and Elizabeth entered the examination room. Patrick checked Sam for signs of a head injury, while Elizabeth told Jason that he would have to wait a few more hours for a doctor to remove the bullet from his leg. Sam watched as Elizabeth asked if Jason was in pain. Jason assured Elizabeth that he was fine, but Elizabeth offered to get him pain medication, if he needed it. Patrick gained Sam's attention by shinning a penlight in her eyes. Meanwhile, Elizabeth told Jason that Ewen had died. "Well, at least you're safe," Jason replied. Patrick was furious that Ewen had deceived everyone. Elizabeth revealed that Ewen had denied any knowledge of Jerry's plan to put the pathogen in the water. Patrick quietly admitted they were all getting progressively sicker, so Jerry's warning about the pathogen had been true.
Jason changed the subject by asking Patrick to pull Sam's son's medical records. Patrick revealed that it wasn't necessary because they were part of Sam's patient file. Sam was surprised when Jason asked Patrick to explain why Sam's son had died. Patrick checked the records and explained that the baby's lungs had not been fully developed, so the baby had died of respiratory failure. Jason was curious if the baby could have been saved if the newborn had been put on a ventilator. Patrick explained that nothing could have been done to save the infant because the baby's lungs had been too weak. Patrick handed the file to Elizabeth before he took Sam to radiology. Elizabeth reiterated that the baby's death had not been Sam or Jason's fault. Jason asked to see the file, so Elizabeth handed it to him. Jason immediately spotted a discrepancy. He explained that Sam and Franco had O-positive blood types, but the baby's blood type had been AB-negative. Elizabeth agreed that it was impossible for two O-positive parents to have an AB-negative child, but she was certain that it was a clerical error. "What if the baby who died wasn't Sam's?" Jason asked. 9/10 At the marina warehouse, Sonny expressed doubt that Jerry would show up. Jerry suddenly entered holding Alexis at gunpoint, entered the warehouse. Alexis explained that Jerry had kidnapped her. Todd wanted to get down to business, but Sonny wanted to know why Jerry had kidnapped Alexis. Jerry explained that he loved Alexis, so Jerry planned to take her with him. Jerry said it was for love, but Todd did not care. Sonny said that Jerry could not have Alexis. Alexis agreed, but Jerry said that he would kill everyone there if Alexis did not go along. Sonny and Johnny pulled guns, but Jerry's thugs rushed in and disarmed them. Sonny and Jax refused to give Jerry the money until Jerry let Alexis go. Todd argued that getting the cure was more important than Alexis, whom they could chase once they had the cure. Jax, Sonny, Carly, and Johnny all argued that Jerry should let Alexis go. When Carly said that Jerry owed Jax, Jerry responded that Jax owed Jerry and Jerry intended to collect. Shawn made it to the police station and told John McBain and Dante that Jerry had kidnapped Alexis. Shawn showed John a paper that Jerry had dropped as he made his getaway. The paper held numbers that John recognized as latitude and longitude. He was able to figure out that Jerry was headed for the marina. John, Dante, and Shawn rushed out. Sonny and Jax continued to argue with Jerry about Alexis. Finally Alexis spoke up and said that she would go with Jerry willingly if he gave up the antidote and saved her children. Jax told Alexis that he would not let her sacrifice herself. Alexis said that Jax could not stop her. Jax shot back that Jerry could not be trusted. During the confusion, Todd transferred the money to Jerry's account. John, Dante, and Shawn arrived at the marina. Dante did reconnaissance and found Jerry and his five men. Shawn, Dante, and John split up to attack Jerry's position. Inside the warehouse Sonny insisted to Todd that Jerry could not be trusted and would double-cross them. Jerry said it was true; he would double-cross them if not for Jax, whom he felt compelled to save. When the money transfer was confirmed, Jerry prepared to leave, but he told the group that he would not give them the combination to the locked case until he was safely out of the country. Outside the warehouse, Jerry's men spotted Dante, John, and Shawn, and the men opened fire. Inside, Jerry, Jax, and Carly struggled with Jerry for his gun, which went off during the struggle. At first, it appeared that Carly had been shot, but the bullet had actually hit Johnny. Outside the warehouse, John and company subdued Jerry's men. Carly noticed that Johnny was bleeding badly. As she attended to him, Jerry quickly left with Alexis. Jax and Sonny followed Jerry out of the warehouse. John, Dante, and Shawn arrived. Todd called for an ambulance while John tried to find a way to unlock the case with the antidote. As John examined the locked case that Jerry had left behind, which supposedly contained the antidote, he mumbled that it was too simple. Dante got on the phone to call for backup, but Shawn stopped him by voicing fears that Jerry would kill Alexis. Dante said that the police were already stretched thin, and he hung up the phone. Shawn told Dante to help McBain open the case and distribute the serum while Shawn hunted for Jerry and Alexis. After some thought, Dante and John tried the combination, 88110. They were relieved when it opened the case that Jerry had left behind. Inside were four large bottles of serum and a bomb set to go off in 54 minutes.
Sonny and Jax argued while they searched for Jerry. Meanwhile, Jerry escorted Alexis to a tugboat and told her it was their ride. Carly and Todd helped Johnny out of the warehouse. Todd stayed with Johnny, and Carly went for the car. Todd told Johnny that Carly wanted him to live. Todd handled Johnny roughly. As Johnny groaned, Todd asked if Johnny thought he was going to bleed to death. When Johnny groaned again, Todd said that it was what Johnny deserved for killing Todd's granddaughter. At General Hospital, Steve pushed Sam's wheelchair to the elevator and said that her scans looked good, and he was sending her home to spend time with her family. When Sam asked about the antidote, Steve said that they were looking for a counteragent but were running out of time. When Sam inquired about Steve's family, he said that his grandmother was at Disneyworld with Elizabeth's children and had no idea about the virus in Port Charles. Steve added that Olivia was still in the hospital, suffering hallucinations as the result of an LSD overdose that his mother, Heather, had given Olivia. Steve said that Heather had called from Ferncliff, and Steve had told Heather that he wanted nothing more to do with her. Steve apologized for letting Heather out of the institution in the first place. Sam soothed Steve and said that he had just been trying to be a good son. Steve said that Heather should never be let out of Ferncliff again. Sam was in the lobby when a young mother collapsed while holding her baby. Sam rushed to take the baby as Steve helped the mother. As Sam held the infant, she thought back and remembered believing that the dead baby that Jason had given Sam at the garden shed had not been hers. As Sam held the living baby, she remembered her own child. When Steve returned, Sam was pensive as she handed the child to Steve. In a GH examination room, Jason looked at the results of Sam's baby's blood tests and realized that Sam and Franco could not be its parents. Jason told Elizabeth that he remembered that Sam had not believed that the dead baby had been hers. Elizabeth was sure that the blood tests contained a typo, but Jason was not so sure. Elizabeth played devil's advocate and told Jason not to get his hopes up. Jason said that things did not add up, and he had to know the truth. Jason said that something was wrong because the blood types were off, and that the baby that died had hemophilia, a condition not diagnosed before birth, which should have been diagnosed because of Sam's excellent prenatal care. Elizabeth asked for an explanation of how the switch could have occurred. Jason admitted that he did not have one, but that there was a period of time that could not be accounted for after Sam put the baby in the planter box and passed out in the garden shed and before Jason arrived and found the dead baby. Elizabeth thought that Jason's theory was a stretch and suggested that he was in denial. Jason asked how he could confirm the paternity of the dead infant. Elizabeth said that a second autopsy was needed, and Sam would have to give permission. Elizabeth was convinced that Sam's baby was dead and that Jason was clutching at straws. Elizabeth said that nothing would be proven, and it would hurt Sam. She asked if Jason really wanted to hurt Sam that way. Sam was passing by and overheard. She asked what Elizabeth meant by her remark. Jason said that they had been discussing Sam's baby. Sam said that she was sorry about everything and knew that her baby was dead and could not have survived. She said that the baby's death could not have been Jason's fault. Sam admitted that she could not help fantasizing about what their life would have been like if the baby had lived. Sam almost said more, but instead remarked that she had to go and walked away. Jason turned to Elizabeth and admitted that he could be wrong about the baby but said that he had to know the answers. Elizabeth suggested that just as Sam's fantasies were a way to deal with her grief, so was Jason's theory that Sam's baby was still alive, a way to deal with his grief. Jason said that regardless, he still needed to find out the truth. Elizabeth departed, and Sam returned to the room. Jason asked where she was going next. Sam said she would go spend time with her family. She bemoaned that fact that Jerry had not spared the children. Jason said that there was still a chance that the antidote or a counteragent would be found. Sam asked what Jason would do. Jason said that he was waiting for surgery. Sam thanked Jason for making her see that her baby's death had not been her fault. Sam said that maybe she would see her baby soon. Jason told Sam not to think about dying. Sam responded that her life with Jason had been amazing. Sam said that if she died with Jason, she would die happy. Jason hugged Sam. Sam told Jason goodbye, but Jason said, "Don't say that." Instead Sam said, "See you later." She was crying as she left the room. Elizabeth checked on Jason again. He thanked her for her help with the baby's medical file. Elizabeth said it did not matter. Jason said he refused to accept that they would all die. Jason reiterated that despite any obstacles, he had to know the truth about Sam's baby. After her escape from Ferncliff, Heather went to Llanview to see Téa Delgado, who believed Sam's baby to be her own child. Téa recognized Heather as the woman who had saved her child’s life not the woman who had swapped Téa's dead baby for Sam's live one. When Téa invited Heather in to see the baby, Heather introduced herself as Susan Moore. When Téa got a phone call, she allowed Heather hold the baby. While Téa took care of business, Heather told baby Victor, that nobody knew that he was actually the child of Sam and Jason. Heather told the baby that Téa was a good mother but would not love him like Heather could. Heather hugged the baby and told him that he was her new Steven Lars and her second chance to be a good mother. Téa was upset after her phone call. When Heather questioned her, Téa said that her daughter was no longer able to babysit, and she needed a full-time nanny so that she could go back to work. Heather leaped at the opportunity and offered to become Téa's nanny in the short term until Téa could make other arrangements. Téa was reluctant at first, but Heather was very convincing. Téa was glad to have the woman, whom she believed had saved her child, as his new nanny. Téa was impressed by how easily Heather was able to soothe Victor when he cried and seemed to instinctively know that the baby liked his back rubbed. Téa said that with her daughter in college, she had forgotten how to parent an infant. Heather said that it would all come back. When Téa asked if Heather had children, Heather said that she had one son. Heather said that she was very close to him and gave a sly look at the baby. Heather said that too much planning did not allow time for happy accidents. Téa agreed and said that although she was accustomed to banging on closed doors, she would take a chance on Heather, as long as her references checked out. Heather quickly agreed to get her references together and assured Téa that if hired, Heather would treat baby Victor as if he were Heather's own son. As Heather left, Téa said that if Heather's references checked out, it would be the best thing to happen to her since Todd had found Heather in the woods and Heather had saved baby Victor. Heather was smiling like the cat that ate the cream. 9/11 Outside of the warehouse, Dante decided to call the police, but Shawn warned Dante that Jerry would kill Alexis if the police swarmed the marina. Dante changed his mind when Shawn vowed to find Jerry and rescue Alexis. After Shawn walked away, Dante entered the warehouse. John and Dante examined the locked briefcase that held the antiserum. John suspected that the combination might be related to the Dead Man's Hand, so Dante set the numbers to 8-8-1-1-0. The briefcase snapped open, but it had been rigged with a bomb, so John and Dante were unable to get to the serum. Dante wondered why Jerry had left the antiserum if the intention had been to blow it up. John suspected that Jerry would deactivate the bomb with a remote, once Jerry was safely away. However, John decided to call a contact at the FBI for help with the bomb so that they could get the antiserum to the hospital intact. At the marina, Todd and Carly tried to help Johnny to the car, but Johnny's gunshot wound was bleeding too heavily. Johnny collapsed, so Todd ordered Carly to fetch the car. After Carly left, Todd pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket. Todd growled that Johnny deserved to die for killing Hope, as he covered Johnny's nose and mouth with the handkerchief. Todd assured Johnny that the death would be peaceful, unlike the way that Hope had died. Todd quickly pulled away from Johnny when Lulu suddenly appeared and called out to Johnny. Todd's body had blocked Lulu from seeing what Todd had been doing, so she assumed that Johnny was unconscious from the injury. Lulu shouted that Todd should have been putting pressure on the bleeding wound, so Todd claimed that he had been doing that when Lulu had arrived. Moments later, Carly's car screeched to a halt by the trio. After Johnny was settled into the backseat with Carly, Lulu announced that she was staying at the marina because she needed to find Dante.Lulu was relieved when Dante stepped out of one of the warehouses. He implored Lulu to leave because Jerry had planted a bomb in the briefcase with the life-saving serum, but she refused. Dante and Lulu entered the warehouse to check on John's progress. They were stunned when John revealed that he had been put on hold. John explained that the bomb was more complicated than anything that John had ever seen. Dante made another attempt to get Lulu to leave, but Lulu insisted that, live or die, they would stay together. John's contact finally picked up the call, so John explained the situation. John wondered if they had something to cut the wires with, so Lulu fished around in her purse for nail cutters. Dante proceeded to follow John's instructions on how to disarm the timer. Dante's hands shook, so Lulu helped him cut the wire. However, the bomb continued to remain active, so John ordered Dante and Lulu to leave. Dante and Lulu wanted to stay to help John, but John explained that they still had hope, because the Centers for Disease Control and the doctors at General Hospital were working to find a cure. After Dante and Lulu left, John's frustration mounted when he couldn't find a green wire that would deactivate the bomb. John realized that he was on his own, so he ended the call. John glanced at a picture of Natalie on his cell phone as he bemoaned not having had a chance to say goodbye to his son or to tell Liam and Natalie that he loved them. "My fiery redhead," John softly said to Natalie's picture as he decided which wire to cut. Jerry led Alexis to his boat in the marina and tied her hands to a handrail in the bridge. Jerry explained that the boat would take them to their future, but Alexis warned Jerry that Jax and Sonny would hunt him down. Jerry explained that it was in Jax's best interest to remain on land. Alexis' eyes rounded when Jerry showed her the remote detonator to the bomb that he had planted in the briefcase with the antiserum. Alexis reminded Jerry that she was a Cassadine, so he should not underestimate her. Jerry didn't seem threatened, so Alexis changed tactics by agreeing to cooperate in exchange for Jerry's promise to deactivate the bomb. Alexis realized that something was wrong with Jerry when he suddenly began to cough. She was curious if he was sick, but Jerry gave her a vague answer and changed the subject. Jerry explained that he had to leave, so he warned her not to do anything stupid. After Jerry left, Alexis tried to work free of the rope that bound her wrists. She vowed to throw Jerry to the sharks if she was still onboard when the boat hit the open waters. Sonny and Jax searched the marina for any sign of Jerry and Alexis. Jax spotted his brother's boat, so he started to head in its direction, but Sonny was too weak to follow. Jax suggested that Sonny try to rest, but Sonny was determined rescue Alexis. Jax promised to deal with Jerry, so Sonny made it clear that he would kill Jax himself if anything happened to Kristina's mother. Jax assured Sonny that Sonny would have a lifetime of opportunities to kill him. Shortly after Jax walked away, Shawn spotted Sonny. Sonny was set on finding Jerry, but Shawn insisted that Sonny needed Shawn's help. Shawn and Sonny boarded a boat and made their way to Jerry's boat. They managed to slip on, unseen, and find Alexis. "What took so long?" Alexis asked to break the tension. Shawn freed Alexis as she inquired about the bomb. Shawn admitted that Carly and Todd had been in possession of the serum last. Alexis groaned because it meant that the bomb had likely not been deactivated. Sonny wanted to get going, but Alexis refused to budge, because she feared that Jerry would trigger the bomb if she weren't there when he returned. Sonny explained that Jax needed his help. "He's on the boat?" Alexis asked. Sonny ignored Alexis' question as he ordered Shawn to get Alexis off of the boat. Shawn hauled Alexis away, so Sonny made his way to the dock. On the dock, Jerry looked at the city skyline. "Goodbye, Port Charles," Jerry said with relish. He started to untie the boat from its moorings but froze when Jax suddenly appeared dangling the keys to the boat. Jerry demanded that Jax return the keys, but Jax refused. Jerry reminded Jax that the counteragent to the pathogen was in the warehouse, so Jax was wasting time by talking to Jerry. Jax explained that he wanted to help his brother, despite the awful things that Jerry had done, because Jax loved Jerry. Jerry laughed and then revealed that he was dying. Jax assumed that it was from the pathogen, but Jerry clarified that the Balkan's assassin had shot Jerry with a bullet laced with plutonium. Jerry explained that he had managed to survive the shooting and the plunge into the harbor's icy waters, only to discover that he had radiation poisoning. Jerry had found someone who had the cure but for a steep price. Jerry admitted that he had made a payment, but there was an outstanding balance due. Jax realized that Jerry intended to use the ransom money was for the final payment. Jerry thought that it was ironic that the balance he still owed represented the numbers of the Dead Man's Hand, which their father had credited for their success and died for. "And now, I'm gonna die from it too," Jerry added. Jax insisted that he would help Jerry, but Jerry wasn't interested, so he demanded that Jax return the keys to the boat. Jerry was furious when Jax tossed the keys into the water. Jerry pulled out a gun and the remote detonator. Jerry decided that the people of Port Charles couldn't have a new life if Jerry couldn't. Jax caught Jerry by surprise by knocking the gun and remote detonator out of Jerry's hand. A brief struggle ensued until Sonny appeared and shot at Jerry. Everyone dove for cover as Jerry and Sonny exchanged gunfire. Jerry managed to shoot a hole into a full barrel of gas near Sonny. DVD #34B At the warehouse, John decided that he had nothing to lose, so he clipped the red wire in honor of Natalie's fiery red hair. On the dock, Jerry and Sonny exchanged gunfire, while Jax took cover. Meanwhile, one of Jerry's bullets pierced a gas barrel, so gas poured onto the dock. Shawn and Alexis kissed but jumped apart when a loud explosion rocked the marina. Shawn realized that Jerry's boat had blown up. Alexis feared the worst for Sonny and Jax, so she ran to where Jerry's boat had been docked. The dock was littered with fiery debris, but there was no sign of the boat or the men. Dante and Lulu were stunned when they heard a loud boom and saw a ball of fire in the distance. Their heats sank because they assumed that John had perished in the explosion along with the antiserum. John walked up and handed the briefcase to Dante. Dante wondered what had caused the explosion, so John promised to investigate, but first John wanted Dante and Lulu to take the antiserum to the hospital before it was too late. At the lake house, Sam called Alexis when she realized that Alexis wasn't home, but the call went to voicemail. Afterwards, Molly entered the living room with T.J. in tow. Molly was alarmed when she noticed the cut above Sam's eyebrow. Sam assured her sister that it was fine. Sam was more concerned about Molly. Molly dissolved into tears as she admitted that she was afraid of dying. Sam rocked her sister in her arms. After Molly calmed down, she asked Sam if Sam knew where Alexis was. Sam was certain that wherever their mother was, it was important. T.J. decided to call Shawn, so Molly reminded him that he had left his cell phone in her bed. Sam was not pleased, so she waited until T.J. left the room to discuss it with Molly. Molly promised that nothing had happened; Molly and T.J. had merely fallen asleep. Sam relaxed because she was happy that Molly had had an opportunity to spend time with someone important to Molly. Molly wondered why Sam wasn't with someone important too. Sam admitted that she had been. "You were with Jason...or John McBain?" Molly asked. "Both," Sam answered. Sam explained that she had said her goodbyes to both men, even though Sam wasn't certain that it was actually the end for all of them. Molly admitted that it felt like it, but Sam insisted that there was still hope for a cure. "What if we're saved?" Molly asked. Sam admitted that she'd asked a similar question, which had led to a conversation with Jason about what things might have been like if they had never learned the truth about Sam's baby's paternity. Sam was certain that she and Jason would have been raising their son together. However, it hadn't worked out that way. Sam regretted that she had punished Jason for that, because he hadn't deserved it. Molly was curious if that was why Sam had turned to John. Sam explained that there was something about John that went beyond friendship. Molly was curious which man Sam would want to be with if they survived the pathogen: Jason or John. Sam was evasive, but Molly was certain that Sam knew, in her heart, which man Sam would want to be with. "I do," Sam conceded. Molly didn't have an opportunity to probe further because Alexis and Shawn arrived home. Molly, Sam, and T.J. warmly greeted Alexis and Shawn. Alexis explained that Jerry had forced Alexis to leave, but Alexis didn't want to focus on that because the nightmare was over. Elizabeth wheeled Jason into an examination room, so that he could wait until an operating room became available. Jason jumped out of the wheelchair because he intended to track down Jerry and find the cure. Elizabeth didn't care if Jason hated her, but she refused to let him walk out of the hospital with a gunshot wound in his leg, because he could bleed to death in the parking lot. Jason assured her that he didn't hate her. Elizabeth challenged him to prove it by getting on the table and staying put. Jason sat down as instructed, and then asked how bad it was in the emergency room. Elizabeth revealed that the only place more crowded was the chapel. Jason imagined that many were eager to set things right before they died. Elizabeth suspected that Jason was thinking about the possibility that Sam's baby might be alive. Moments later, Monica walked in because she needed Elizabeth to cover for a nurse who had become too ill to work. After Elizabeth left, Monica asked how Jason's leg was doing. He assured his mother that it wasn't too bad. Monica apologized because Jason would have to wait to have the bullet removed, since the operating rooms were backed up. Jason was curious how Monica was holding up. Monica admitted that she was more concerned about the patients, especially Edward. Monica confessed that Edward was sick and frail, but Tracy was with Edward. Jason was surprised when Monica revealed that Tracy appeared to be patient zero, because Tracy had been exposed to the deadly pathogen but had not been affected. Jason pointed out that Tracy's blood could be used to develop a counteragent. Monica admitted that Patrick had already synthesized a cure, but there had only been one dose left after the tests. Monica told Jason about Tracy's attempt to save Edward and Edward's decision to give the antiserum to Emma. Monica thought that Edward had been a true hero, which was a quality that Jason shared with Edward. Jason assured Monica that he knew that she loved him. Monica admitted that she was grateful that Jason had allowed her to be a part of his life. Monica reminded Jason that his birthday was the following day, but it wasn't something that Jason looked forward to because it was also Franco's birthday. Monica apologized for reminding Jason about Franco. Jason confessed that he had been thinking a lot about Sam's baby. Monica knew that Sam had been at the hospital earlier, so she had hoped that Jason and Sam would have been together. Jason revealed that Sam was with her family. Monica argued that Jason was Sam's husband, which made Jason part of Sam's family. Monica acknowledged that she and Alan had fought bitterly at times, but they had always been there for each other when it had mattered. Monica had hoped that it would be like that for Jason and Sam. Jason admitted that he and Sam had talked about how things might have been different if they hadn't learned the truth about the baby's paternity. Monica appreciated that Jason and Sam had had a lot to deal with, including losing the baby. Jason confided that he had questions about that, and then showed Sam's medical file to Monica as he explained the discrepancy that he had discovered. Monica blamed the difference in blood types on a clerical error. Moments later, they heard cheering in the hallway, so Monica left to investigate. Later, Dante announced to everyone in the emergency room that the cure was available, so the doctors would begin to administer it. Dante urged everyone to contact those who had been exposed to the pathogen to spread the word. Everyone cheered. At the lake house, Alexis, Shawn, Sam, Molly, and T.J. celebrated when they received word that a cure was available. Sam watched as each of the couples hugged. Sam's face lit up when John suddenly appeared in the doorway. Alexis was eager for an update, so John reported that they hadn't found Jax's body. Alexis was relieved that Jerry was dead, but she wanted the search to continue for Jax. Sam thanked John for everything that he had done. John excused himself, so Sam followed him to the porch to ask him where he was headed. John explained that he didn't want to get in the way of her spending time with her family. Sam reminded John that they had faced death together, so she thought that they should "re-welcome" life the same way. Music montage to the following scenes: Sonny and Kate went to the rooftop just as the rain began to fall. They smiled and kissed. Seconds later, Olivia walked out and smiled with joy when she felt the raindrops on her face. Moments later, Steve joined Olivia on the rooftop and kissed her. Jason stopped in the doorway of the rooftop as the two couples kissed. Sonny turned in time to see his friend, so Jason stepped out into the rain. Moments later, Elizabeth joined Jason, so Jason put his arm around her and pulled her close. At the lake house, Molly, T.J., Alexis, and Shawn had a water fight, while Sam and John stood on the porch, holding hands and feeling the rain wash over them. This episode featured the song, "I'll follow you," by Jon McLaughlin. 9/13 Sonny entered Jason's hospital room to check on his friend. Jason assured Sonny that the bullet had been removed from Jason's leg, so Jason was on the mend. Sonny was surprised that Ewen had managed to shoot Jason, so Sonny jokingly asked if Jason was slowing down. Jason admitted that he hadn't taken the shot right away because he had been afraid of hitting Elizabeth. Sonny was relieved that Ewen and Jerry were dead, which meant that it was over. "Except it isn't," Jason quietly replied. Sonny recounted the events that had transpired at the marina, following the shootout between Sonny and Jerry. Sonny revealed that he hadn't seen any sign of Jax after the explosion, so someone would have to break the news to Carly. Jason started to get out of bed to do just that, but Sonny stopped him. Sonny hadn't forgotten that it was Jason's birthday, so Sonny decided to tell Carly that Jax was dead. After Sonny left, Jason picked up the folder with Sam's medical records. After several minutes of reading it, he decided to get up. However, a nurse spotted Jason, so she threatened to sedate him if he tried to get out of bed again. Moments later, Spinelli arrived. Spinelli was annoyed that Jason had neglected to mention the gunshot wound, so Jason assured his friend that he was fine. Spinelli regretted that he had discounted Jason's suspicions about Ewen, so Jason reminded his friend that he wouldn't have found Elizabeth without Spinelli's help. Jason thanked Spinelli for a job well done and then admitted that he needed Spinelli's help again. Jason showed Spinelli the folder with Sam's medical records as he explained that things didn't add up because the baby's blood type hadn't matched Sam's or Franco's, none of the prenatal tests had indicated that the baby had had hemophilia, and the baby's lungs had supposedly been undeveloped, even though Sam and John had reported that the baby had cried and had seemed healthy at birth. Spinelli agreed to hack into the hospital's mainframe. Moments later, Spinelli announced that Sam had donated the baby's tissue, so there was a strong possibility that Spinelli could get the answers to Jason's questions without alerting Sam. Jason instructed Spinelli to do whatever was necessary. At the lake house, Sam greeted Kristina and Trey. Kristina was curious where Alexis was, so Sam revealed that their mother was with Shawn. Sam promised to explain later, but first Sam wanted to know where Kristina and Trey had been. Sam was stunned when Kristina confessed that she and Trey had eloped to give the reality show a grand finale and to save Trey's father's investment.
Trey started to explain everything, but Sam warned him that it hadn't helped to hear him confirm that he had married Kristina for the money. Sam was curious if Kristina had considered the ramifications of eloping with Trey. Kristina was certain that everyone would understand once Kristina explained that she and Trey intended to annul the marriage quickly. Trey decided to excuse himself to make a phone call, so he left the room. Sam worried that Trey had pressured Kristina into getting married, but Kristina reminded Sam that Mob Princess had been Kristina's project too. Kristina then asked about Sam's ordeal. Sam filled Kristina in on what had transpired during the crisis. Moments later, Trey returned to announce that he had to get back to the apartment to take care of some last-minute production stuff. Kristina wanted to get their annulment started, so she asked him to call her when he was free, and then kissed him goodbye. "Wow, you guys are really romantic," Sam observed. Kristina admitted that it was strange to be someone's wife. Sam reminded Kristina that it wouldn't be for long because Kristina had to get an annulment quickly. Sam felt bad for their mother because Alexis would have her hands full, taking care of Kristina's annulment and Sam's divorce. Kristina was stunned that Sam and Jason had decided to divorce. Sam explained that she and Jason had made the decision prior to the crisis, but Alexis hadn't had a chance to draw up the papers. However, Sam didn't see the point in waiting because there wasn't any reason to put it off. 9/14 At the lake house, Kristina explained to Sonny that she had married Trey to save his father's investment in Mob Princess. Sonny decided to have a talk with Trey's father, so he demanded to know the man's name. Kristina insisted that Sonny couldn't do that, but Sonny would not be swayed. Moments later, Alexis arrived home and announced that Jax had been found. Sonny admitted that he had already known that, prompting Alexis to ask why Sonny hadn't called to tell her. Sonny explained that he had been sidetracked with something else, and then looked pointedly at Kristina. Alexis warmly greeted Kristina with a hug, as Kristina admitted that she had been worried about Alexis, Sam, and Molly. Alexis assured Kristina that everything was fine, so Alexis wanted an explanation for why Kristina had left town without a word to anyone. Sonny suspected that it was because Kristina had feared that Alexis would lock Kristina up and throw away the key. Alexis was curious if she should sit down, so Sam admitted that it might be a good idea. Sonny offered Kristina the opportunity to tell Alexis the news, but Kristina couldn't find the words. Alexis was stunned when Sonny revealed that their daughter had eloped with Trey. Kristina quickly assured her mother that she intended to annul the marriage. "Damn right you are," Sonny said, as he left to track Trey's father down. Kristina tried to change Sonny's mind, so she followed him out the door. Alexis tried to put Kristina's wedding into perspective. Alexis conceded that, given the recent crisis, Kristina's marriage wasn't the worst thing that could have happened. Sam agreed that Kristina had simply made a bad decision; it wasn't life or death. Alexis wanted Kristina's marriage annulled quickly so that Trey would be out of Kristina's life for good. After Alexis left the room, Sam glanced down at her wedding band. Later, Alexis handed Sam the divorce papers that Alexis had drawn up. She explained that Sam simply had to sign the papers to end the marriage, but Sam was hesitant. Alexis was curious if Sam was having second thoughts, so Sam admitted that she had talked to Jason about what things might have been like if the baby had lived. Sam confessed that it had broken her heart to imagine how happy she and Jason could have been. Sam also revealed that she had felt closer to Jason than she had in a log time and that she had realized that her baby had died because of what she had done.
Sam admitted that she had let Jason hold her for the first time since the baby had died and that Jason had gone out of his way to ask Patrick about how and why the baby had died. Alexis reminded Sam that the baby had died of respiratory failure. Sam explained that the baby's lungs had been undeveloped, so the baby would have died regardless. Alexis pointed out that it proved that Sam hadn't been at fault. "It wasn't Jason's fault either," Sam replied. Alexis argued that Jason had sent some henchman after John. Sam assured Alexis that she was not excusing that or how Jason had shut down on her during her pregnancy, but Sam had made mistakes too. Alexis was curious if Sam was ready to forgive Jason. "I think so," Sam quietly confessed. Alexis reminded her daughter that there wasn't a deadline on signing the papers, so Sam should take all the time that she needed to figure things out. Alexis broached the subject of John, but Sam didn't want to talk about him. Alexis advised Sam to go to Jason, while Jason was still Sam's husband, and tell him what Sam had told Alexis. "What do you have to lose?" Alexis asked. Sam smiled and thanked her mother. At the hospital, Jason was limping on crutches as he and Spinelli made their way down the hallway. Jason appreciated Spinelli's help looking into the discrepancies with Sam's baby. Moments later, they bumped into Elizabeth. Spinelli told her that it was a pleasure to see her looking so well after her brush with death. "Which one?" Elizabeth asked. Spinelli felt bad that Ewen had put Elizabeth through such an ordeal. Elizabeth pointed out that if it hadn't been for Spinelli, Ewen might have gotten away with it. Spinelli insisted that the credit for saving Elizabeth went to Jason. Elizabeth smiled and thanked both men. Spinelli excused himself because he had an important job to attend to. He wished Jason a happy birthday and then left. Elizabeth also wished Jason a happy birthday, but Jason confessed that he wished that he could erase it altogether because it was also Franco's birthday. Elizabeth apologized and changed the subject. She suspected that Spinelli was looking for answers to Jason's questions about Sam's baby. Jason admitted that he trusted Spinelli to get to the bottom of things. They approached the nurses' station, so Elizabeth revealed that she had a birthday present for Jason; she had gotten the doctors to approve Jason's discharge from the hospital. Jason smiled with relief. Elizabeth's shift was ending, so she insisted on taking him home because she wanted to talk to him about something that she wasn't comfortable discussing at the hospital. Meanwhile, Spinelli went to the lab. He encountered a young lab technician named Ellie, whom he hoped could help him. Spinelli explained his dilemma, but Ellie refused to run any tests on the baby's tissue without the mother's consent. Spinelli explained that Sam was his business partner and a close personal friend, but Ellie refused to test the tissue without the proper authorization. She explained that her supervisor was a stickler for playing by the rules, even though the woman had made the lab techs work longer hours than they should. Spinelli assured Ellie that she was unlikely to get caught. Spinelli eventually persuaded Ellie to run the tests. A short time later, Ellie confirmed that the baby's blood type had not been a match to Sam's. Spinelli realized that there was a good chance that Sam's son was alive. At the penthouse, Jason was taken aback by the birthday decorations and balloons. Elizabeth explained that she had forced Max to give her the key to the penthouse so that she could decorate for Jason's birthday. She had thought that it would be a nice way to celebrate life after what they had been through, but that had been before Jason had told her about Franco. Elizabeth apologized and then started to take everything down, but Jason told her to stop. Elizabeth didn't want Jason to pretend on her account, so Jason confessed that he appreciated the effort and he appreciated Elizabeth. Elizabeth seized the opportunity to talk to him about their relationship. She didn't want to waste any more time being scared, so she wanted Jason to know how she felt. Elizabeth confessed that she had gone out with Ewen because she couldn't have Jason. She realized that the kiss on the bridge had been a rebound thing, but she had needed to find a way to forget about Jason. Elizabeth regretted that she had ignored Jason's warnings about Ewen. Jason apologized, but Elizabeth insisted that he didn't have any reason to be sorry because he had saved her life. Elizabeth had been terrified when Ewen had held a gun to her, but she had completely trusted Jason; she always had. Elizabeth acknowledged that there had always been a pull between her and Jason that she couldn't explain but that she didn't want to ignore anymore. Elizabeth confessed that when she looked at him, she didn't just see Jake's father or Emily's brother, but her friend. Elizabeth conceded hat there had been a lot of missed chances for them over the years, so she didn't want another to pass them by. Jason's eyes filled with tears as she suggested that they didn't have to unless something had changed. "No," Jason confessed. Elizabeth wanted to be sure that Jason and Sam were still getting a divorce. "Yes," Jason replied just before they kissed. Moments later, Sam opened the front door but stopped when she saw Jason and Elizabeth. 9/17 Elizabeth decorated Jason's penthouse with balloons to celebrate Jason's birthday. She asked if Jason and Sam were still divorcing. When Jason responded in the affirmative, Elizabeth kissed him. Sam opened the door and saw them. Sam closed the door and left before she saw Jason gently disengage and tell Elizabeth that he was sorry because he could not give her false hope. Jason said that he did not want to hurt Elizabeth. She replied that since Jason was getting a divorce, they were both free at the same time and could explore how they felt about each other. Jason told Elizabeth that they could not go back to the past. Jason said that he had never been a father to Jake because he had wanted to protect Jake, Elizabeth, and her other children.
Jason told Elizabeth that he would be dishonoring Jake's memory if he put her in danger. Jason also said that he was responsible for Sam's baby's death, and he had to put it right. Elizabeth said that he was not, but Jason added that he had doubts about the death of Sam's baby. Spinelli rushed into the apartment before Elizabeth could respond; he said he had news. Spinelli apologized for interrupting, but Elizabeth said that she had to leave because she needed time to think. Spinelli told Jason that the lab tests proved that the dead child was not Sam's, which they agreed meant that Sam's baby was still out there. Spinelli and Jason went over the event timeline, beginning with Sam giving birth and ending with Jason finding the dead baby in the planter box outside the garden shed. Spinelli wondered whom the baby Jason found in the planter box belonged to. Jason said finding who the baby belonged to might help locate Sam's son. Spinelli asked if it was time to tell Sam what they knew. Jason said that he did not want to give Sam false hope and make her mourn all over again if her real baby had also died. Jason said that he and Spinelli could reconstruct that night without Sam. Spinelli understood and asked where they should start. Jason said they should start at the shack where Sam had last had contact with her living baby. Spinelli asked if the shack was off Route 59. When Jason said yes and asked what Spinelli knew about the place, Spinelli responded that he knew more than he cared to know. Spinelli told Jason that Heather had buried Anthony's body near the shack and had held Luke hostage in the shack. Téa welcomed Heather, in the guise of "Susan Moore," into her home in Llanview. Téa told Heather that she had checked her references and had some questions. Heather wondered if her referenced were okay. Téa said that they were impeccable. Téa said her only question was why Heather wanted to work for Téa when Heather could be making more money elsewhere. Heather responded that she was grateful just to have a job in difficult times and added that she would work for peanuts in order to be close to sweet baby Victor. Téa liked Heather's answer and hired her on the spot. Téa got a business call and asked Heather to take over Victor's care. When Téa left the room, Heather whispered to baby Victor that she had faked the references. She told the baby that the references were airtight. She said that after kidnapping, DNA tampering, and a couple of murders, faking the references had been child's play. As Heather put the baby to bed and told him that soon he would be calling her mother, Téa phoned Todd to tell him about her new nanny. Téa told Todd that she had hired Susan Moore as her new nanny. Todd did not recognize the name. Téa was about to explain, but Todd heard the phone being taken away and Téa ask another person what they were doing before the line went dead. At the other end, Heather distracted Téa by telling her that Victor seemed to have a fever. The phone rang again after Téa rushed away to check on the baby. Heather saw that the caller was Todd and muttered that she would have to do something. Téa returned and found Heather with her phone. Heather explained that she had answered Todd's phone call because she had wanted to explain why Téa had hung up so abruptly and to remind Todd who she was. Heather was immediately contrite and asked about Victor. Téa said that the baby did not have a fever. Heather gathered her things to leave and apologized for making so many mistakes on her first day, because she had hoped that things would work out for her as Téa's nanny. Téa assured Heather that even though Heather had overreacted about the baby's fever, Heather still had a job. Téa told Heather that she was a godsend. Heather said that the baby was the real godsend, and she was happy to be in his life. When Téa did not answer her phone, Todd left a message saying that the new nanny could not be that important if Téa was too busy to pick up the phone. At the hospital desk, Elizabeth reported in to work an extra shift and hugged Steve. When he asked if things were okay with her, she told him that the timing was never right for her. Steve received a phone call from Ferncliff. He was stunned to hear that Heather had escaped. Sam told Kristina and Alexis that she had seen Elizabeth and Jason together and had left without saying anything. Alexis asked if Sam had perhaps misinterpreted. Sam said that it was obvious that Jason had moved on, and she did not feel she had the right to interfere because she had encouraged Jason to do just that. Sam asked for a pen to sign her divorce papers. Both Kristina and Alexis encouraged her to wait a little longer before making her decision final. Alexis told Sam to be really honest with herself and try to figure out if a divorce was what she really wanted from Jason. Sam held out her hand for the pen. Alexis refused to give it to her, but Sam took the pen from Alexis and signed the papers. She took off her wedding ring and said that her marriage was over. 9/18 At Jason's penthouse, Spinelli suggested that Heather might have switched Sam's healthy baby for a dead one. Jason revealed that he had looked around the cabin and the surrounding area on the night that he had found Sam and her baby, but there hadn't been any sign of anyone else. Spinelli pointed out that Heather had spent a lot of time in Ferncliff over the years, so Jason shouldn't underestimate Heather. Spinelli explained that Heather had had a grudge against Sam, because Sam hadn't delivered a letter to Steve, as promised. Jason argued that there wasn't any proof that Heather had been near the cabin on that fateful night. Spinelli revealed that a police officer had stopped a woman fitting Heather's description who had been in the company of a man who was later revealed to be Anthony Zacchara. Spinelli then told Jason about the discovery of Anthony's body, which had been buried in the vicinity of the cabin. Jason conceded that Heather had motive and opportunity to switch babies, but not the means. Spinelli recalled that Luke had mentioned being fed by Heather's accomplice while Luke had been held captive in the cabin. Jason was curious what Spinelli knew about Heather's accomplice, so Spinelli revealed that the accomplice had worn a mask and hadn't spoken. Jason decided to pay Heather a visit, so he grabbed his gun. Spinelli doubted that Jason would be able to sneak a gun into Ferncliff, but Jason decided to worry about that when he got there. Moments later, Steve called to let Spinelli know that Heather had escaped. 9/20 Sam sat on her mother's porch, looking at the signed divorce papers, when John walked up. Sam greeted him with a smile, so he confessed that he had stopped by to make sure that she was okay, because he had heard about Heather's escape from Ferncliff. Sam revealed that Steve had called her to let her know. John wanted Sam to be careful, so he advised her to make certain that there were people around her at all times. Sam smiled and changed the subject by asking how he was doing. John assured her that he was fine, and then confessed that he had also stopped by to talk to Alexis about the restraining order against him. Sam revealed that Alexis was talking to Sonny because they were trying to get Kristina's marriage annulled. Sam admitted that it was a big day for ending marriages, because she had signed her divorce papers, so her marriage to Jason was over. John was sorry to hear that Sam and Jason hadn't been able to work things out. Sam told him that she had been close to changing her mind because she and Jason had talked about the baby. Sam explained that Jason had helped her to understand that nothing could have prevented her son's death because the baby's lungs hadn't been fully developed. Sam revealed that she had gone to tell Jason that she could forgive him, but she had been too late, because Jason had already moved on with Elizabeth. Sam confessed that it had hit her hard, but she was determined to move forward. John was surprised when Sam confided that it would have been her one-year wedding anniversary if she and Jason had stayed together. Sam talked about her unusual wedding in the Chinese restaurant. John realized the significance of the figurine that Sam had carried around during her pregnancy. Sam admitted that she had left it in the motel room after she had given birth to her son, so John revealed that he had found it earlier that morning when he had gone to lost and found to look for something that he had misplaced. John had picked it up because he had recognized it. He handed it to Sam, but she didn't take it, so he set it on the table. Sam confessed that there had been a time that she might have seen it as a big neon sign; however, it was too late to save her marriage. John advised her not to close the book yet, because life could change in an instant. Sam was curious when John had become so optimistic, so John revealed that facing death a few times could change a person's perspective. Sam picked up the figurine and decided to take the divorce papers to Jason. After Sam left, Jason called to ask for John's help. At the nurses' station, Jason asked Steve if there had been any news about Heather. Steve insisted that it was none of Jason's business, even if Jason had saved Elizabeth's life. Jason explained that he wasn't there to talk about Elizabeth, prompting Steve to wonder why Jason was interested in Heather. Steve assured Jason that he had already called Sam to warn her about Heather, even though Steve was certain that Sam was low on Heather's list of people that Heather wanted to harm. "Not physically," Jason agreed. Steve wanted to know what Jason had meant by that, but Jason was more interested in knowing if the police had any leads on Heather. Steve explained that no one knew where Heather had disappeared to, so Jason asked Steve to let him know when there was any new information. Steve agreed, provided that Jason explained why Jason wanted to find Heather. Jason wanted some privacy, so Steve led Jason to Steve's office. Jason made it clear that Steve could not repeat what Jason was about to tell him, especially to Sam, because Jason wanted proof first. "Okay, I won't say anything," Steve assured Jason. "I think Heather took Sam's baby," Jason confessed. Steve insisted that it wasn't possible, so Jason told Steve what he had uncovered. Steve remained skeptical, so Jason revealed that Sam had last seen her son alive at the cabin where Heather had held Luke captive. Jason explained that the cabin was also near where Heather had buried Anthony's body. However, Jason confessed that he couldn't figure out how Heather had managed to switch Sam's baby with a dead one. "I think I know," Steve admitted. Steve told Jason about a couple who had arrived at the hospital with a newborn who had been delivered at a bus stop. The couple had claimed that the baby hadn't been breathing after his birth, until a good Samaritan had helped them. Steve had had doubts about the story, because the baby had seemed healthy. Jason and Steve realized that Heather might have been the good Samaritan, so Jason wanted to know who the couple had been, because Sam deserved to know if her son was alive. 9/21 At the penthouse, Spinelli was on the phone with Jason. Jason revealed that he knew where Heather had gotten the baby to switch with Sam's son. "You found the baby?" Spinelli asked as Sam entered the penthouse. "What baby?" Sam asked. Spinelli quickly ended the call and explained that he had been working on a case. Sam offered to help, but Spinelli assured her that it wasn't necessary and then changed the subject by asking why Sam was there. Spinelli hoped that Sam wanted to work things out with Jason, but Sam explained that she was there to drop off divorce papers. Spinelli refused to believe that Sam was ready to end her marriage to Jason, so he offered to call Jason, but Sam ordered him not to. Sam confessed that Spinelli's devotion to all things Sam and Jason was unfair, because she and Jason were human and made mistakes. She insisted that Spinelli shouldn't put her and Jason on a pedestal, because they couldn't live up to Spinelli's lofty expectations. Sam explained that he was just setting himself up for disappointment. Spinelli was certain that Sam and Jason loved each other, so he believed that their love would prevail, despite the difficulties that Sam and Jason had experienced. Spinelli insisted that Sam deserved to have a happy ending, so he urged her not to give up on Jason "a minute before the miracle." "What miracle?" Sam wondered. Spinelli tried to cover his slip by explaining that love was a miracle that would grace her again if she gave it time. Sam explained that she and Jason had put the divorce off long enough, but Spinelli implored her to wait at least another day. Sam didn't understand what was so important about the day, so Spinelli reminded her that it was her one-year wedding anniversary. Sam assured him that she knew that, but she needed to move on because Jason had moved on with Elizabeth. Spinelli argued that Jason was doing all that could to make amends, but Sam assured Spinelli that she had forgiven Jason. Sam insisted that her problems with Jason ran a lot deeper, so Spinelli had to accept that Sam and Jason's marriage was over. Spinelli reminded Sam that she and Jason had made promises to each other when they had exchanged vows, so he asked her to delay the divorce one more day. After Spinelli left, Sam pulled the dragon figurine out of her pocket and looked at it. In Steve's office, Steve confirmed that Téa's baby had type O blood and that the infant had shown signs of an iron deficiency, which suggested that the baby had a condition called beta thalassemia. Jason was familiar with the blood disorder, because Sam's baby had had the markers for it because of Sam's Greek heritage on the Cassadine side. Steve explained that the blood type was common, as was the disorder. Jason argued that everything added up to Sam's baby being alive. Anna greeted Jason and reminded him of their conversation when she had warned him that she wouldn't look the other way if Jason broke the law. Jason assured her that he understood, so Anna left. Jason explained that he had called John because Sam's son might be alive and living in Llanview. Jason told John about the discrepancies in Sam's medical records and the things that he had uncovered, which led Jason to believe that Heather had switched Sam's baby with Téa's son. John was certain that Téa hadn't been involved, but he couldn't put it past Todd to do everything possible to make it up to Téa for killing Victor, including giving her a healthy son. John also realized that it explained why Todd had hired Heather to work for the Sun. However, John warned Jason that they had to be careful chasing down leads, because a lot of innocent people could be hurt. Jason suggested that they test the DNA of the baby that Téa had taken home. John had reservations about it, because he knew that Téa loved the baby. Jason insisted that John would help Sam get her son back if John truly cared about Sam. After John left, Jason went to pay the tab. He became still when he noticed the phoenix figurine among several other items perched on the counter behind the bar. The bartender explained that it was a collection of things that patrons had left behind but hadn't cared enough about to retrieve. In Llanview, Heather assured Téa that the baby was fine. After Heather ended the call, she told the baby that his "pretend mommy" had been on the phone. Heather couldn't wait until she could be herself again, so that the baby could call her "mommy." Heather vowed that she would do everything right the second time around. Heather insisted that the baby's real parents, Sam and Jason, didn't deserve him, so the baby would be her "brand new" Steven Lars. Heather admitted that it was only a matter of time before Todd exposed her to Téa, so she decided that it was time for her and the baby to take a road trip. Heather threw some things into a bag, picked up the baby, and asked him where he would like to start their new life. "Corinth? Pigeon Hollow? I hear Pine Valley is very lovely this time of year," she told the baby. Moments later, John knocked on the front door. Jason entered the Chinese restaurant, and Mr. Yi greeted him promptly. Mr. Yi revealed that Jason's wife was already there and then pointed to a table where Sam was seated. Sam looked up and saw Jason. 9/24 Heather planned to leave Llanview with Victor, who was really Sam's baby, when John McBain knocked on Téa's door and identified himself. Heather recognized the name as an enemy of Todd's. Heather hesitated inside, trying to decide what to do, while outside, Téa arrived home and invited John inside. When John and Téa entered her home, neither Heather nor Victor was there. Téa went to look in the nursery while John waited and looked at a picture of Victor. Téa was relieved to find Heather and the baby in the nursery. She told Heather that she wanted Victor to meet a visitor downstairs. Heather said that Victor was just dropping off and should not be awakened. Téa agreed and asked Heather to transport the baby down when he woke up. Downstairs, Téa said Victor was napping and would be down later. John and Téa discussed John's move to Port Charles and the restraining order that was preventing him from having access to his son. Téa assumed that John was there to see her about getting access to his son, Liam. John played along. Téa said that she would love to help, but she was close to Natalie’s family and worked for Natalie's father, so it represented a potential conflict of interest. Téa was genuinely sorry for John's predicament. John said he understood. Téa said she was furious at Todd for his part in John's estrangement from Natalie and Liam. When John asked if Téa was upset with Todd in other areas, Téa said it was hard to stay mad at the man who had delivered her baby on the side of a road and was the reason that Victor was alive. When John asked to see Victor before he left, Téa went upstairs and found Victor awake. Heather made an excuse to stay upstairs. John was looking at a folder marked "Susan Moore," when Téa returned with the baby. John made endearing remarks about the baby and played along when Téa mentioned Victor's genetic disease, one that did not appear in either her family or that of her late husband, but did appear in Sam's. John held the baby and made the appropriate comments about child. John asked for a glass of water. When Téa went to the kitchen, John took a DNA swab from baby Victor while she was gone. John exchanged the water for the baby and left after telling Téa to take care of the baby. Outside the door, John looked at the DNA swab and vowed to find out if it belonged to Sam's baby. Jason went to the Chinese restaurant where he and Sam had been married. Sam was also there. The waiter assumed that they had arrived separately to celebrate their anniversary and showed Jason to Sam's table. Jason was surprised. Sam said she was too. Sam showed Jason the dragon that she had recovered earlier, and Jason showed Sam the matching phoenix figurine that he had also recovered that day. They agreed that it was an amazing coincidence. Jason sat down and said that he had gone there to think. Sam said that she was there for the same reason. Both agreed that a lot had happened in a year. Sam said that she had hoped that everything could go back to the way it had been before Franco had spoiled their happiness. Sam had tears in her eyes as she acknowledged that they could not go back. Sam was about to give Jason the divorce papers when the restaurant's owner approached them; he said he had recognized Jason's bike and realized that they were there to celebrate their anniversary. Sam hurriedly wiped away her tears. Sam tried to set the owner straight, but he remembered them from the previous year, when they had been running from their over-planned wedding. He asked them if they were running from something on this date as well. Sam said that they were not running from anything. Jason tried to explain that they were divorcing, but the owner's elderly grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Yi, who had also participated in Sam and Jason's wedding, joined the group. In Chinese, Mrs. Yi told Sam and Jason that she was very glad to see that they had retained the symbols of double happiness, indicating the figurines. Both Sam and Jason flashed back to their wedding and recalled that they had been married under the symbols of the dragon and the phoenix. Each symbol alone signified happiness, but together, meant double happiness. Sam laughed and said that she remembered. Sam and Jason tried to leave the restaurant, but Mrs. Yi, who insisted in Chinese that they stay for an anniversary feast, stopped them. As the elderly couple left to prepare the food, Jason and Sam tried to decline the meal, but the grandson insisted that preparing the meal for Sam and Jason would make Mrs. Yi, who might not live through another year, very happy. He begged them to stay. Sam and Jason agreed. Alone, Sam said that she felt terrible about lying. Jason said it was for a good cause. Sam asked if Jason was okay being the center of attention. Jason told Sam that that was the reason that she had gotten stuck running interference. At that moment, the Yi family rolled out a serving cart filled with delicacies. The owner said that it might seem odd, but he thought that his grandmother had been expecting them. Along with the food, Mrs. Yi made a toast, which contained a reminder that if times turn bad, Jason and Sam should look to the past when times were good and remember their vows. Both Sam and Jason remembered their wedding ceremony and their promise to love and care for each other through eternity, no matter what happened between them. Sam had tears in her eyes as they looked at each other. Sam thanked them for the meal and lovely toast. Mr. Yi asked them to return every year, even if the elderly couple was gone. Sam again thanked the Yi family for the dinner and said it had been meant to be. Jason agreed and noted that Sam had made the same remark the previous year. He also thanked the Yi family. Sam said that fate had meant for them to stop there when they had. Alone, Jason and Sam reacted to their emotional connection and shared a long, passionate kiss. 9/25 At the Noodle Buddha, Sam and Jason kissed. Sam pulled away to ask Jason what they were doing. Jason started to kiss Sam again, but Sam insisted that she had to leave. Jason's eyes landed on the divorce papers on the table. He was stunned to realize that she had signed them. Sam explained that she had wanted to make things as easy as possible. Before Jason could respond, he received a text message from John explaining that John was at General Hospital with the DNA sample. Jason insisted that he had to attend to something that couldn't wait, and he left. A short time later, Carly arrived to pick up her order. She spotted Sam at a nearby table, so she was curious what Sam was doing there. Sam explained that it was her one-year wedding anniversary, and then she admitted that she had bumped into Jason. Sam confessed that she and Jason had kissed. "How passive-aggressive of you," Carly remarked. Sam assured Carly that any feeling that Jason had felt had evaporated when he saw the divorce papers. Carly felt bad for Jason and Sam, but Sam didn't believe her. Sam assured Carly that Jason would soon put Carly first again. "Or not," Sam added. Carly wondered what that meant, so Sam revealed that Jason and Elizabeth had rekindled their romance. Carly refused to believe that Jason would go back to Elizabeth, but Sam assured Carly that it was true, because Sam had seen Jason and Elizabeth kiss on Jason's birthday. Carly insisted that Sam had no right to judge Jason. "How's John McBain?" Carly asked to make a point. "I don't need this," Sam complained, but Carly accused Sam of having double standards. Carly was curious why it was okay for Sam to kiss John whenever she wanted, but it wasn't okay for Jason to kiss Elizabeth. Carly had seen the picture of Sam and John's kiss on the pier, so Carly knew that Sam had been "totally into it." Sam tried to turn things around on Carly by reminding Carly of all of the times that Carly had cheated on men that Carly had claimed to love. Carly argued that she had taken responsibility for what she had done, while Sam sat around crying about a divorce that Sam had wanted. Sam insisted that she had no desire to be angry and disappointed by Jason again, because he had shut down on her when Sam had found out that she was pregnant with her rapist's child. Carly realized that Sam couldn't forgive Jason for what he had done, but she pointed out that Sam had done some unforgivable things too. Carly pointed out that Jason had given Sam the divorce that Sam had asked for, so Jason and Sam were free to see others. Carly hoped that John knew what he was in for and then confessed that she was starting to feel a little sorry for Elizabeth. Sam doubted that Elizabeth needed Carly's sympathy because Elizabeth had wanted Jason for a long time, so Elizabeth finally had her chance. Carly doubted that Jason truly wanted to end his marriage to Sam, prompting Sam to wonder if Jason had talked to Carly about it. Carly revealed that Jason had simply asked Carly not to try to fix things between him and Sam, because he was a constant reminder to Sam of the child that Sam had lost and how he had failed Sam. Carly insisted that Sam had all of the power, so Sam could have Jason back if she wanted him. Sam was confused, because she had the impression that Carly thought that Sam taking Jason back was the worst thing that Sam could do to him. Carly clarified that kissing Jason one minute and then jumping into John's lap the next was the worst thing that Sam could do to Jason. Carly wanted Sam to stop jerking Jason around and let it be over. "What if it's not?" Sam asked. "What if it's meant to be?" Sam added. Carly didn't have an answer, so she left. Afterwards, Sam looked at the dragon figurine and the divorce papers. At the hospital, John gave Jason the DNA swab that had been taken from the baby in Téa's care. John was certain that Todd knew that the baby with Téa wasn't Téa's son. Jason was curious how the baby was doing, so John assured him that the baby had been well cared-for. John warned Jason that a lot of people would be hurt if the baby were revealed to be Sam's son. However, John insisted that it would be on Todd's head. At the hospital, Elizabeth saw Jason and John enter an examination room. She waited until John had left before she approached Jason to find out what the two men had been talking about. She was stunned when Jason confessed that he had found Sam's baby, but he needed confirmation via a DNA test before he told Sam. Elizabeth couldn't imagine what it would be like to be reunited with a child that she had lost. Jason sobered as he realized that Elizabeth had been thinking of Jake. Elizabeth offered to take the DNA sample to the lab and have a rush put on the test, but Jason didn't feel comfortable asking that of her. Elizabeth refused to take no for an answer. She assured him that there would be less chance of a mistake if her name were on the test. She also pointed out that it was also a way to ensure that the lab didn't call Sam with the results, especially if they weren't a match. Jason didn't think that it was fair to ask that of Elizabeth, but Elizabeth was confident that Jason would do the same for her if their roles had been reversed. Jason handed the DNA sample to Elizabeth and thanked her. A short time later, Elizabeth returned to let Jason know that the sample had been turned over to the lab. She hoped that he got everything that he wanted. 9/26 At Kelly's, Carly spotted Elizabeth. Carly noticed that Elizabeth had been checking the phone, so she was curious if Elizabeth had been waiting to hear from Jason. Elizabeth put the phone away as Carly explained that she would forever be grateful to Elizabeth for saving Josslyn's life by donating Jake's kidney. Carly knew that Elizabeth and Jason would always carry the grief over losing Jake, but Carly warned Elizabeth that Elizabeth didn't have a future with Jason. Carly explained that Jason had given Jake up to keep his son safe, so Jason would never expose Elizabeth, or her sons, to his dangerous lifestyle. Elizabeth was surprised when Carly revealed that she knew about Elizabeth and Jason's kiss on Jason's birthday, because Sam had told Carly about it. According to Carly, Sam had signed the divorce papers because of the kiss. Carly regretted the years of grief that she had given Elizabeth because of Jason. She conceded that she had felt threatened by Elizabeth. Elizabeth was curious why Carly had decided to insert herself into a situation that wasn't any of Carly's business, especially when Carly had no idea what Elizabeth and Jason shared. Carly was certain that Jason didn't want to hurt Elizabeth, but she warned Elizabeth that Jason and Sam weren't ready to walk away from their marriage, despite their decision to get a divorce. Moments later, Jason walked in. He was concerned when he saw Carly talking to Elizabeth. Carly assured Jason that everything was fine and claimed that she and Elizabeth had simply been catching up. After Carly walked away, Jason offered to tell Carly to leave Elizabeth alone, but Elizabeth assured him that it wasn't necessary because she believed that Carly's intention had been good. Elizabeth announced that she was headed to the hospital, so she invited Jason to join her because the results of DNA test that Jason had requested were due back. At the hospital, Jason waited in an examination room while Elizabeth checked with the lab to see if the results for the DNA test were ready. A short time later, she returned with the results in hand. She hoped that the results were what Jason wanted. Elizabeth promised to help Jason through the difficulties of reuniting Sam and the baby if the results confirmed that Sam's baby was alive. Jason thanked Elizabeth for her support and then opened the envelope. He was shocked when they revealed that the baby hadn't been a match to Sam. Jason couldn't understand how it was possible because he had been certain that Sam's baby was alive. He insisted that everything had pointed to it. Elizabeth's expression was etched with guilt as she watched Jason grapple with the stunning news. Elizabeth tried to comfort him as she gently told him that it was over. Jason put his arm around Elizabeth and then drew her close. 9/27 At Pozzulo's, Sonny studied the pendant that he had found as Jason arrived for the bachelor party. Sonny slid the pendant into his pocket and greeted Jason. Jason handed Sonny a box of Cuban cigars as he congratulated Sonny. In the restaurant, Spinelli decided to save his Cuban cigar because he hoped to bump into someone later that evening who might appreciate fresh breath. Jason realized that Spinelli had been referring to Maxie. Spinelli claimed that he had put his feelings for Maxie to rest, but Jason was skeptical. Spinelli insisted that he had joined an online dating site to meet someone new, so Jason was curious how it was going. "I'm optimistic," Spinelli replied. Jason wondered if Spinelli had met anyone yet. "I'm optimistic," Spinelli repeated. Max and Jason chuckled. Jason suggested that Spinelli focus on finding just one thing in common with a potential date, and then going from there. Spinelli agreed that it would probably be better to find someone who challenged him, like Sam challenged Jason. Jason warned Spinelli that it wasn't the time or place to discuss Sam. Spinelli was surprised because he recalled that Jason had been close to proving that Heather had orchestrated the baby switch with Sam's newborn. Jason confessed that he had been wrong about the baby switch. Spinelli was shocked when Jason revealed that a DNA test had confirmed that the baby with Téa was not Sam's son. Spinelli insisted that it was impossible, but Jason pointed out that the DNA test couldn't have been wrong. Spinelli suspected that there were other forces at work, so he decided to reach out to Ellie, the lab tech that he had met a few weeks earlier. Jason wanted Spinelli to leave it alone, but Spinelli refused. Spinelli urged Jason to have faith, and then confessed that he had given Sam similar advice when she had stopped by the penthouse with divorce papers. Jason confided that he had bumped into Sam on their one-year wedding anniversary at Noodle Buddha and then revealed that she had signed the divorce papers. Spinelli assured Jason that Sam had not given up on the marriage, so Jason shouldn't either. Sonny, Dante, and Michael emerged from the office, so everyone gathered around the poker table. Moments later, Trey entered. Sonny invited Trey to join them, but Trey declined. Sonny offered to give Trey the money needed to play, so he led Trey to his office, while Spinelli, Max, Michael, Dante, and Jason proceeded with the game. Michael told everyone about Trey and Kristina's elopement in Las Vegas. Michael confessed that he and Starr had agreed that they would never get married in a place like the one where Trey and Kristina had exchanged vows. The men were surprised that Michael and Starr had talked about marriage, so Michael quickly clarified that he and Starr weren't ready to get married because they were too young. Dante assured Michael that marriage wasn't bad, while Spinelli reminded Michael that Romeo and Juliet had been younger than Michael and Starr. Max talked about Diane as he warned Michael not to settle down too soon. Jason advised Michael to think things through carefully because marriage was a lifetime commitment that could be unbearably painful if it ended too soon. Michael was emphatic that he and Starr weren't getting married, so Spinelli changed the subject. Spinelli admitted that the evening reminded him of a poem. Max was curious if there was a hobbit in it, but Spinelli ignored him. "Think of where man's glory begins and ends. And say, my glory was that I had such friends," Spinelli recited. "I call," Jason replied, as he tossed some chips into the middle of the table. Spinelli proudly showed his hand, a full house. Spinelli's smile quickly faded as Jason revealed that he had a straight flush. Elizabeth, Lulu, and Olivia spared Maxie from having to explain that she hadn't hired any strippers for Connie’s (Kate’s) Bachelorette party. A short time later, Kristina and Sam arrived. Sam had a change of heart about staying at the bachelorette party when she spotted Elizabeth, but Kristina refused to let her sister leave. Sam reluctantly agreed to stay as Maxie kicked off the party with a short speech about Kate and then urged everyone to give Kate a "classy send-off." Connie announced that she was ready to get her "drink on," so everyone lined up at the bar to do shots of tequila. Sam warned Kristina to take it easy with the shots because Kristina wasn't used to drinking. Kristina changed the subject by asking how things were between Sam and Jason. Sam confided that there was a chance that she might not get a divorce because Sam and Jason had kissed on their anniversary at the Noodle Buddha. Kristina was thrilled for Sam because it meant that there was still hope for Sam and Jason. Elizabeth watched Sam as she recalled Jason's reaction when he had learned that the DNA test hadn't confirmed that Téa's baby was actually Sam's son. Lulu noticed Elizabeth standing alone, so she approached her former sister-in-law to find out what was on Elizabeth's mind. Elizabeth confessed to Lulu that she had messed things up with Jason. Elizabeth explained that she had respected Jason and Sam's marriage, but Elizabeth and Jason had reconnected after Jason's split from Sam. However, Elizabeth had jeopardized everything by doing something stupid. Sam stood nearby, watching Elizabeth and Lulu. Maxie introduced "Magic Milo" to the stage. Milo, dressed in a suit and tie, stepped onto the stage, as music blared from the speakers. However, he didn't move, so Lulu decided to show him some moves from the sidelines. Milo mimicked Lulu's moves, as the ladies cheered and clapped. Soon, Milo grew more confident, so he began to strip. The ladies applauded loudly and showered Milo with champagne, as they stuffed dollar bills into his boxer-briefs. 9/28 Sam thanked Kristina for making Sam stay, because Sam had had a good time. Sam confessed that Kristina was a good sister, but Kristina disagreed, because Kristina had put her family through a lot with Mob Princess. Sam assured Kristina that Kristina had been given a free pass because Kristina had been going through a difficult time. Kristina acknowledged that she had gotten through it, so she was confident that Sam and Jason would get through their struggles as well. Nearby, Elizabeth listened as Sam admitted that Sam and Jason weren't a sure thing, but Kristina disagreed. Kristina doubted that it had been a coincidence that Sam and Jason had ended up at the Noodle Buddha on their one-year anniversary and then had kissed. Kristina also pointed out that the divorce papers hadn't been delivered, so she was certain that Sam was still in love with Jason. Sam sat at the bar when Lulu approached Elizabeth to find out what had been troubling Elizabeth. Elizabeth wasn't comfortable discussing it unless Lulu promised to keep it a secret. Lulu agreed, so Elizabeth confessed that Jason had kissed her. Elizabeth revealed that she felt confused about things because Jason was a married man. However, Elizabeth admitted that Jason had told her that he had feelings for her. Elizabeth promised Lulu that she had no desire to get between Jason and Sam, but Jason had assured Elizabeth that the marriage was over, so he had told Elizabeth that she had nothing to feel guilty about. Lulu was curious what Elizabeth planned to do, so Elizabeth admitted that she intended to wait until the marriage was over and the divorce papers were signed. Lulu wondered if Elizabeth was concerned that Jason might change his mind. "No," Elizabeth replied. Elizabeth explained that Jason had told her that he intended to sign the papers and put his past mistakes with Sam behind him. Elizabeth assured Lulu that Jason was ready to move forward. "With you?" Lulu asked. Elizabeth shrugged. Meanwhile, Sam took a drink as she continued to eavesdrop on the conversation. Elizabeth reminded Lulu that Elizabeth had known Jason far longer than Sam had and that Jason and Elizabeth had been in and out of each other's lives for many years, during which time she and Jason had confided to each other, helped each other, and had shared a child. Elizabeth admitted that the timing had always been off for them, but they finally had a chance to make things work. Moments later, Sam left. At Pozzulo's, Dante, Jason, Michael, Spinelli, and Max were gathered around a poker table. Dante was curious where Milo was, so Max explained that Sonny had sent Milo to work security at Kate's bachelorette party. Spinelli suspected that Milo had gotten the better deal because Milo's wallet would remain intact. A short time later, Spinelli folded, so he walked away from the card table. Jason noticed Spinelli texting someone, so Jason approached Spinelli to find out who Spinelli had been texting. Spinelli admitted that he had reached out to his friend, Ellie, a lab tech that he had turned to when Jason had needed answers about the blood type discrepancies with Sam's baby. Jason insisted that it was over, but Spinelli refused to let the matter drop because they hadn't confirmed that the baby with Téa was actually Téa's son. A short time later, Ellie arrived. Max was reluctant to let Ellie enter, but Ellie insisted that Spinelli had invited her. Jason watched the exchange between Ellie and Max as Spinelli sang her praises. According to Spinelli, Ellie was intelligent, well-spoken, and knowledgeable in many scientific and technical arts. Jason admitted that Ellie was cute, so he suggested that Spinelli ask her out. Spinelli smiled as Ellie walked up. At Spinelli's urging, Jason outlined the medical discrepancies that had led him to believe that Sam's baby hadn't died. Ellie explained that it was impossible that there had been a mistake with the tissue samples and autopsy blood typing, because she had tested the samples herself. She was adamant that the baby who had died was AB negative. Spinelli insisted that it was proof that the baby who had died wasn't Sam's son. Jason couldn't understand why the DNA sample taken from Téa's baby hadn't matched Sam. Moments later, Sam entered. She gave Jason the signed divorce papers and explained that he would be free to move on once he signed them. Jason didn't have a chance to respond as Sam walked out. 10/1 At General Hospital, Jason met with John McBain and told him that the DNA test they had arranged had not confirmed that Sam was the mother of Téa's child. Both Jason and John were mystified. Elizabeth overheard their discussion. At the lake house, Alexis prepared to leave for Sonny's wedding while Sam elected not to attend. After Alexis departed, John McBain arrived to pick up papers sent to Alexis by Natalie's Llanview attorney. John was surprised to see an envelope addressed in Natalie's hand. In a letter, Natalie told John that she had met someone else and that she was moving on. Natalie told John that if he cared about her or their son, Liam, he would honor the terms of the restraining order. John vowed to fight for his son. Sam admitted that she had served Jason with divorce papers after overhearing Elizabeth tell Lulu that Jason had kissed Elizabeth and was moving on with Elizabeth, instead of trying to reconnect with Sam. John asked Sam if she really wanted a divorce. Sam said she did not, but Jason obviously did. John said that he regretted his actions and should have seen losing Natalie coming, but he had not. John confided that he had lost something valuable, and he had to figure out what to do next. Sam and John shared a drink, which John said was not a good idea, considering their past history. Sam agreed. John said that he should leave, and Sam said she would walk him out. John told Sam that all he wanted was her happiness. Sam agreed that she wanted the same for John. They share a long, slow kiss. Elizabeth met Jason at the penthouse, dressed for their date to the wedding. Jason shared his, Spinelli’s and the lab tech's confusion about the results of the DNA test on Téa's baby and its conflict with other testing that had been done on tissue samples from Sam's dead baby. Jason said that the only way to be sure was to exhume Sam's deceased child. Jason added that he did not want to make Sam suffer through that process, so he would do nothing further. Elizabeth found the divorce papers on Jason's desk. Jason told Elizabeth about his dinner the previous evening at the Noodle Buddha with Sam. Jason revealed to Elizabeth that he had not thought that his marriage to Sam would survive, but he had hoped to give Sam the thing she wanted most, which was to have a child and be a mother. Elizabeth looked stricken when Jason thanked her for always being honest with him. As Jason opened the door to leave for the wedding, Elizabeth stopped him and admitted that she had lied to him. As Jason listened, Elizabeth confessed that at the bachelorette party the previous evening, she had said things to Lulu that had deliberately led Sam to conclude that Jason had moved on to Elizabeth, which in turn, had triggered Sam to believe that she and Jason had no chance and to serve the divorce papers to Jason immediately. Elizabeth said that her actions had been stupid and immature and that all she had really cared about was getting a chance to have a real relationship with Jason. She told Jason that she was very sorry. Jason only responded that it was time to leave. Elizabeth said that there was more to tell, and it had to do with Sam's baby. 10/2 At the lake house, John and Sam kissed. Things quickly heated up until Sam pulled back before they went too far. She feared that they wouldn't be able to stop if things went much further. Sam reminded John that she had just ended her marriage, while he had just found out that his relationship with Natalie was over, so they were hurt and angry. John agreed that those were the wrong reasons to turn to someone. Sam pointed out that if their connection was as strong as it seemed, then they could explore things when they were in a better place emotionally. John didn't want to cause Sam more pain or to complicate her life. They were on the verge of kissing again, but Trey knocked on the door, looking for Kristina. Sam explained that Kristina wasn't there, so Trey asked to leave his wife a note. Sam agreed, so John decided to leave. John and Sam agreed that it had been a strange day, but not all of it had been bad. "See you around, Sam," John said with a soft smile as he left. At the penthouse, Elizabeth tearfully begged Jason to understand that she had lied because she had deep feelings for Jason and had wanted it to be their time. Jason explained that he had a wedding to go to, so he started to leave, but Elizabeth confessed that she had to tell him something about Sam's baby. Moments later, Spinelli called to find out where Jason was. Jason insisted that he couldn't make it to the wedding. After Jason ended the call, Elizabeth revealed that she had changed the results of the DNA test. Elizabeth apologized as she conceded that she had completely betrayed Jason's trust. She handed him the correct DNA test results and clarified that Sam's baby was alive. Elizabeth tearfully confessed that she hadn't been able to sleep, knowing what she had done. Jason asked her why she had lied, so Elizabeth wondered if it even mattered. Jason insisted that he needed to know. Elizabeth confessed that she had thought about the woman who had been caring for Sam's baby, loving and raising him as her own, when she had seen the test results. Elizabeth insisted that the woman didn't deserve to have a child that she believed was hers taken away from her. "And I didn't deserve to have my child taken away from me either," Elizabeth tearfully added. Elizabeth reminded Jason of the time that Sam had stood by and watched as Maureen had kidnapped Jake as a newborn. Sam had let Jason, Lucky, and Elizabeth lose their minds with grief, anger, and pain, knowing the whole time where Jake was and never saying a word. "So, what is this? Payback?" Jason quietly asked. "I don't know," Elizabeth cried. "Maybe," she conceded. Elizabeth explained that she had tried really hard to put it behind her, but a part of her couldn't help but think that, if it hadn't been for Sam, Jake might have had a different life. "Right?" Elizabeth asked. Jason didn't have an answer, so Elizabeth revealed that Sam's role in Jake's kidnapping had only been a part of it. Jason wondered what the other part had been. "I don't want you with her," Elizabeth truthfully admitted. She had been afraid that the baby would be a catalyst for Jason and Sam's reconciliation. Elizabeth couldn't understand why, after everything that she and Jason had been through, they couldn't have a chance. Jason had no idea what she expected him to say. "Nothing," Elizabeth assured him. She realized that she had slowly been losing her mind ever since they had lost Jake. Elizabeth had been trying to recover on her own by hoping that time would heal her wounds, but they had only gotten worse. Elizabeth had thought that Jason could make everything better and fix things for her, but she realized that it hadn't been fair to expect that of him. Elizabeth started to leave, but Jason called out to her. Elizabeth apologized for ruining everything that they had had. Jason knew what it was like to make a terrible mistake, but she, at least, had been able to make things right. Elizabeth insisted that things wouldn't be right until Sam had her baby back. Elizabeth promised to tell Sam everything, but Jason asked her not to say anything until he had a chance to figure out the best way to handle things. Elizabeth reminded him that he knew what it was like to lose a child, so she asked him to be kind to the woman who had Sam's son. After Elizabeth left, Jason called John. A short time later, John arrived. Jason showed him the DNA test results as he revealed that Sam's baby was alive and living in Llanview with Téa. John was stunned and warned Jason that Téa would be deeply hurt because she loved the baby. Jason agreed, but he wanted Sam to have her son back. Meanwhile, Elizabeth went to the lake house to talk to Sam. Sam wasn't interested in hearing what Elizabeth had to say, because she had heard enough at the bachelorette party. Elizabeth confessed that what Sam had overheard had been a lie, because Elizabeth had known that Sam had been listening. Sam revealed that she had seen Elizabeth and Jason kiss on Jason's birthday. Elizabeth explained that Sam hadn't seen Jason pull away from the kiss and admit that he and Elizabeth didn't have a future together. Elizabeth insisted that, divorced or not, Jason still belonged to Sam. 10/3 At the penthouse, Jason revealed that the baby in Llanview with Téa was a DNA match to Sam, so Sam's baby was alive. John realized that the news would devastate Téa, because she loved the baby. Jason insisted that Sam deserved to have her baby back. John agreed, but he didn't know how to break the news to Téa. Jason offered to go with John to tell Téa, because it might be easier for her to hear it from a stranger. John explained that Téa was an attorney, so they would need more than the DNA results from a lab that had a questionable reputation. Jason suggested that they ask Sam to agree to exhume the baby that had been buried to prove that it was Téa's child, but John pointed out that it wouldn't be possible, since Sam wasn't the child's mother. John decided to talk to Téa, because she was his friend. John suggested that Jason deliver the news to Sam. Jason warned John that Sam would head to Llanview as soon as Jason told her about the baby. John knew that Téa would always love the baby that she had been raising as her own for months, but all that mattered was that Sam got her son back. At the lake house, Elizabeth explained that Jason had pulled away from the kiss on his birthday because he and Elizabeth didn't have a future together. Sam was skeptical that Elizabeth would simply walk away from Jason without a fight. Elizabeth admitted that Jason would always be in her heart, but she wanted Sam to hear her out. Sam invited Elizabeth inside, so Elizabeth entered the house and then confessed that she had manipulated Sam into handing the divorce papers to Jason. Elizabeth explained that she and Jason had only kissed twice, and each time Jason had pulled away. Elizabeth revealed that she had gone to Jason's penthouse earlier that day to convince Jason that Sam and John were in a relationship, but Elizabeth hadn't been able to go through with it, so she had told the truth instead. Sam was curious why, so Elizabeth explained that her lies had been a complete betrayal of what Elizabeth and Jason had shared over the years, their son, and the love that they had had for Jake. Elizabeth had decided that she needed to stop lying, because she had lied to Jason, herself, and another mother. Sam was confused, because Sam's son had died, so she didn't understand what her baby had to do with anything. Elizabeth knew what it was like to lose a child, so she didn't want to add to Sam's pain. Sam was curious if Elizabeth would have cared if Jason hadn't turned Elizabeth down. Elizabeth didn't expect Sam to forgive her, but she was sorry for everything that she had done. Sam admitted that she wasn't in any position to judge because of her own mistakes. Elizabeth appreciated Sam's understanding, so Sam confessed that she was grateful that Elizabeth had stepped forward with the truth. Elizabeth hoped that Sam would soon see how far Jason had gone to make things right for Sam. She promised that Sam would soon get back everything that Sam had loved. "Not everything," Sam sadly replied. "You'll see," Elizabeth softly said, and then left. A short time later, Jason arrived to talk to Sam. Sam revealed that Elizabeth had been by earlier, and had told Sam about the lies that had led to Sam giving Jason the divorce papers. "And that's all?" Jason wondered. "Why? What else is there?" Sam asked. 10/4 In Llanview, John looked at the DNA test results and then knocked on Téa's door. Téa was surprised, but happy, to see John, so she invited him in. They briefly exchanged pleasantries, and then Téa apologized for the restraining order that Clint had issued against John. John revealed that he was there on another matter. He explained that he needed to discuss something important with her regarding her baby. Téa decided to fetch Victor, but John assured her that it wasn't necessary. Téa insisted because the nanny tended to let Victor sleep too much as it was. Moments later, Téa returned and asked John if he had seen the nanny. John admitted that he hadn't seen anyone, which sent Téa into a panic, because the nanny and Victor were missing. Téa called her nanny's phone, but the call went unanswered, so John decided to call the police. He was stunned when Téa revealed that the nanny's name was Susan Moore, the good Samaritan who had helped Todd on the night of Victor's birth. John quickly pulled up a picture of Heather on his phone. Téa confirmed that the woman in the picture was her nanny, so John explained that the real Susan Moore had died in 1983. John told Téa that the woman in the picture was Heather Webber, and then he called the police to have an APB issued on the fugitive. Téa was shocked when John revealed that Heather had recently escaped from Ferncliff. At the lake house, Sam wondered if something was wrong. "Yes," Jason admitted. Sam was curious if it had to do with Elizabeth, but Jason assured her that it didn't. Jason explained that he had been working on something important, but he didn't have an opportunity to elaborate because Trey and Kristina burst through the door.
Trey helped Kristina to a chair, as a shaken Kristina revealed that Trey's father had tried to kill her. Jason wanted to know what had happened, but Kristina was too rattled to say much, so Jason pulled Trey aside to get the story. Trey assured Jason that he was on their side. Jason demanded to know Trey's father's name. "Joe. Joe Scully Jr.," Trey replied.
Kristina finally calmed down enough to tell them that Joe had abducted her outside of Trey's apartment and then had taken her to Sonny's warehouse. Jason decided to make some calls, including to Sonny, while Sam and Trey tried to comfort Kristina. A short time later, Dante arrived. Dante demanded to know why Trey hadn't taken Kristina to the hospital, so Kristina assured her brother that she hadn't been hurt.
Kristina credited Trey with saving her life, so Dante asked Kristina to explain what had happened. Kristina gave him a brief recap and revealed that Trey and Joe had struggled for the gun. Trey added that Joe had been shot and then had fled. Jason insisted that they needed to tell Sonny, but Sonny's phone had been turned off for the night because of wedding. Dante explained that the wedding hadn't happened because Kate had had a breakdown and her alter had emerged. Trey was stunned when Dante added that Connie had married Johnny the night before. Trey was curious if Connie had been in control a few days earlier, so Dante admitted that, according to Connie, Connie had been around since April. However, Dante was more concerned about finding Joe, so he wondered if Trey had any ideas were Joe might have gone. Trey admitted that his father had a room at a local motel, but Dante and Jason agreed that it was unlikely that Joe had gone there. Jason recalled that Sonny had mentioned that Joe and Tracy knew each other, but Jason didn't know, nor did he want to know, the nature of their relationship. Jason admitted that Sonny had had the sense that Joe and Tracy had been more than acquaintances. Dante ordered Trey and Kristina to go to the police station to give their statements, while Dante headed to the Quartermaine mansion. After everyone left, Jason remained concerned about Sonny, because he believed that Sonny had a right to know about what had happened to Kristina. Sam asked Jason to let the police handle it and then offered to call John. Jason explained that John was busy. Sam was curious how Jason knew that. As if on cue, John called Jason to let Jason know that the baby was missing. 10/8 Jason knocked on Steve's door and demanded to know if Heather had tried to contact Steve. Steve said that Jason was free to search. Steve said that he was appalled by Heather's actions and would cooperate fully with Jason and the police. Jason apologized for being so demanding. Steve wanted to know what had happened. At first Jason was reluctant to tell Steve all the facts, but Steve was insistent, so Jason told him about the baby swap, the kidnapping, and Heather's role in both. Steve asked if Jason had told Sam the facts, but Jason said that he was waiting until the baby was found so that he could give Sam some god news. Steve pointed out that there was no guarantee that the baby would survive Heather's machinations. Steve said that Sam needed to know the truth. Before Jason left Steve's apartment, Steve added that Sam deserved to know that her son had survived and had had several good and happy months. Spinelli met Sam at the lake house. Sam immediately pounced on Spinelli and accused him of knowing something and not sharing it with her. Spinelli denied knowing anything. Sam told Spinelli about her puzzling visit from Elizabeth and an equally puzzling visit from Jason, who had said that he had something important to tell her before Kristina and Trey interrupted and had told them that Trey's dad had kidnapped and attempted to murder Kristina. Spinelli was evasive when Sam begged him to help her figure out what Jason had been trying to tell her. Sam got very demanding, grabbed Spinelli, and threatened him with physical violence. Spinelli said that he did not know anything, and if he appeared distracted, it was because of his new friend, Ellie, and the enjoyable time they had had at the observatory the previous evening. Sam did not believe Spinelli and said that he looked guilty.
Sam asked if what Jason had to tell her had to do with the baby case Spinelli had been working. Spinelli quickly said that the case was confidential. Spinelli added that his theory about the case had been disproved and that what he had originally thought had turned out to be a mistake. Spinelli told Sam to ask Jason for answers.
Sam said that she had a right to know because whatever was going on concerned her. Spinelli agreed that Sam had a valid point. Sam was surprised by Spinelli's admission and relaxed her grip on him. Spinelli spun out of her grasp and escaped out the door. Sam put in a call to Jason, who answered as Sam answered a knock and found Jason at the door. Sam wanted to know what important thing Jason had been about to tell her when they were interrupted. Jason said that was why he was there. He asked Sam to sit down and then told her it was about her son, who was still alive. 10/9 Heather turned up on her son's doorstep, holding what appeared to be a bundled-up baby. "Mother," Steve said in shock as Heather entered his apartment. Heather was relieved, because she hadn't thought that she would hear him say that again. Heather didn't want to dwell on the past, because she wanted Steve to meet his new brother. Steve insisted that he was Heather's only child. "Not anymore," Heather replied. Steve explained that the baby's mother was worried sick, so he decided to call the police. Heather warned Steve that someone would get hurt if Steve didn't put the phone down. Steve immediately complied, but he realized Heather's bundle had been nothing more than wadded-up blankets made to resemble a baby. "Where's the baby, Mother?" Steve demanded. Heather assured Steve that the baby was fine, but she warned Steve that no one would ever see the baby again if anything happened to her. Heather implied that she had adopted the baby, but Steve didn't believe her. She then tried to suggest that the baby's mother had given the baby to her, but Steve knew better. He revealed that the baby's mother was Sam Morgan. Heather insisted that Sam didn't deserve the baby, but Steve urged his mother to return the baby to Sam. "Never," Heather argued. Heather feared that Steve had been brainwashed against her, so Steve decided to switch tactics by assuring his mother that he didn't want her to disappear out of his life. Steve claimed that he liked the idea of being a family with Heather and the baby. He pointed out that Sam had already buried her child and moved on, so the baby would be a second chance for Steve and Heather to be a family. Heather was overjoyed until Steve asked her to take him to the baby. Heather decided to play along, so she announced that she needed to freshen up and went to the bathroom, while Steve tried to sneak a phone to call Dante. In an undisclosed location, Heather assured the baby that she would never leave him again. She was disappointed in Steven Lars, so she vowed to take the baby on an adventure where no one would ever find them. At the lake house, Jason asked Sam to sit, because he had something to tell her. Sam braced herself for bad news, but Jason revealed that Sam's baby was alive. Sam was hurt that Jason would say something so cruel to her, but Jason assured Sam that he wouldn't have said it unless it was true. Sam immediately went into denial, but Jason insisted that Sam had been right the entire time. Sam refused to believe him until Jason explained that Heather had been responsible for the baby switch. Jason decided to start at the beginning, so he told Sam that Heather had been in the woods, burying Anthony Zacchara, on the night that Sam had given birth. Jason revealed that Téa had given birth at a bus stop, which had been close to the cabin, but there had been complications with the baby, so Todd, who had delivered Téa's baby, had gone for help. Sam couldn't believe how cruel Heather had been to make Sam suffer the loss of a child. Jason vowed that he would make Heather pay. Sam's eyes filled with tears of joy, as she realized that her son was truly alive. She wondered how Jason had uncovered the truth. Jason explained that after their talk about what life might have been like if Sam's baby had lived, he had been determined to find out what exactly had happened to Sam's baby.
Jason had wanted to put Sam's son back in her arms if there had been a chance that the baby was alive. He revealed that he had found some discrepancies with the baby's blood type and other things, so he had turned to John for help. Sam wondered why Jason hadn't said anything, so Jason explained that he and John hadn't wanted to get Sam's hopes up until they had proof.
Jason credited John with going to Llanview to get a sample of the baby's DNA. Jason handed the test results to Sam. Sam was overjoyed that her son was alive, so she decided to head to Llanview. Jason was forced to break the news that the baby wasn't with Téa because Heather had abducted the baby.
10/10 Olivia was stunned when she saw Steve on the floor in his apartment, unconscious. She immediately went to check on him. Steve slowly opened his eyes, so Olivia asked him who had attacked him. "My mother," Steve told her. At the Nite Lite Motel, Heather assured the baby that he would be fine. She explained that she had big plans for him and promised that they would be away from Port Charles soon. Heather was disappointed that Steve couldn't be with them, but she had done what she had to, because she couldn't risk Steve calling the police. Heather insisted that the baby was the son that she was meant to have. She realized that Steve couldn't help them, but she knew someone who could, so she called Todd. After the call, Heather gave the baby his medicine, but it was the last dose. At the lake house, Sam was dismayed when Jason revealed that Heather had kidnapped the baby. Sam was desperate to find her son, but Jason stopped her from running blindly out the door. He assured her that the authorities were doing everything possible to find the baby. Sam couldn't understand how Heather had been able to kidnap the baby, so Jason explained that Heather had lied to Téa and ingratiated herself long enough to steal the baby. Sam began to cry as she asked if Téa knew the truth about the baby. Jason explained that John hadn't had an opportunity to tell Téa because of the kidnapping.Sam felt terrible for Téa because Sam knew what it was like to lose a child. However, Sam couldn't lose her son again. Jason held Sam in an effort to comfort her. After several minutes, Sam decided that she had to do something, so she headed for the door. Jason pointed out that she had no idea where to start the search. "Maybe I do," Sam revealed. Sam was certain that Heather had been blackmailing Todd, so he was the logical person for Heather to turn to. Jason agreed because Todd would do anything to keep the secret buried. Moments later, John arrived. John seemed reluctant to talk about Sam's baby, so Jason assured John that Sam knew everything. Jason and Sam shared their theory about Todd, so John revealed that Todd was still being a weasel by remaining tightlipped.
Jason's phone rang. It was Spinelli reporting what had transpired at the hospital. Jason revealed that he had told Sam about the baby. Meanwhile, John assured Sam that they would keep grilling Todd for information. Sam confessed that she had always suspected that Todd had been hiding something, but she'd had no idea that it had been information about her baby.
John was curious how Sam was handling the news, so Sam admitted that she was both thrilled and worried. John assured her that everything would work out. Sam realized that John had seen her son, so she asked him how the baby was doing. John smiled as he assured her that the baby was big and beautiful. Later, Jason and Sam arrived at the hospital, so Spinelli led them to Steve's hospital room. Steve revealed that Heather hadn't kidnapped the baby for money. Everyone was stunned when Steve explained that Heather saw the baby as a second chance to raise a child and to prove that she was a good mother.
Jason reminded Sam that it was a good sign, because it meant that Heather wouldn't harm the baby, but Sam couldn't find any comfort in that. Steve warned them that they needed to find the baby quickly because the baby was being treated for a blood disorder that required medication. 10/11 At the Nite Lite Motel, Heather assured the baby that she was a good mother. "Or maybe good at being bad," Heather conceded. Heather promised the baby that they would leave Port Charles once "Uncle Todd" showed up with the money. She bragged that Todd didn't have a choice in the matter, so she had Todd right where she wanted him. Later, Heather began to fear that Todd might have grown a conscience because he hadn't arrived with the money. However, she quickly dismissed the possibility because she knew that Todd wouldn't want his secret exposed.
Sam was frantic to find her son because he needed his medication. Jason assured Sam that they would get the baby back before that became an issue. Sam hated feeling hopeless, so Jason reminded her that her son was healthy, strong, and looked like her. "Remember?" he asked, hoping to get her mind off of her worries. "No," Sam cried. Sam explained that she had only held her son for a few minutes, so she had forgotten what he had looked like. Jason held Sam until he spotted Dante. He excused himself to talk to Dante. A few minutes later, Jason returned and showed Sam his cell phone as he explained that Téa had given the police pictures of the baby for identification purposes, so Jason had asked Dante to forward the pictures to Jason's phone. Sam stared at the pictures of her son in awe. She conceded that she didn't know much about babies, but her son looked big. Sam wished that she could hold her baby, so Jason assured her that she would be able to very soon. Sam didn't know why John thought that her son looked like her, because the baby had big blue eyes, like Jason. Jason reminded her that the baby was his nephew. Sam felt terrible for Téa because Téa was going to have to deal with the loss her son and the baby that she had been taking care of for months. Sam also worried that her son might not accept her because Téa had been the only mother that he had known. Jason was confident that everything would work out. Moments later, Dante approached Jason and Sam to let them know that Anna had a lead on Heather. Sam was eager to go with Dante, but Dante wanted Sam to wait at the hospital. Jason agreed because Sam's presence might set Heather off. Dante promised to call with an update and then left. Nearby, Heather was dressed as a nurse. She had placed the baby in a crib to pass him off as a patient. Heather was dismayed when she spotted Jason, Sam, and Dante, so she ducked into an elevator with the crib before she was seen. Heather couldn't understand why Jason and Sam were at the hospital, but she was determined to get the baby some medicine. Olivia entered the stairwell and called out to a nurse because the elevator appeared to be out of order. She was stunned when Heather turned to greet her. Heather wondered if Olivia was still "groovin' to Lucy in the sky."
Olivia realized that Heather was real, not another vision. Heather explained that she was there to get some medicine for her son. Olivia's eyes landed on the crib, so she ran up the steps to save the baby, but Heather blocked her path. A brief struggle ensued that ended when Heather pushed Olivia down the stairs. Meanwhile, Jason and Sam were surprised when Dante approached them. Dante explained that he had been in the garage when Anna had called to let him know that Heather had left the motel. Moments later, Epiphany asked to speak privately to Dante about Olivia. Epiphany admitted that she was concerned about Olivia, because Olivia had claimed to have had a vision about Heather. Dante and Epiphany went to check on Olivia, but Olivia was not in the exam room where Epiphany had left her. Jason and Sam were shocked when they found Olivia in the stairwell, unconscious. Olivia slowly opened her eyes and revealed that Heather had been there. Sam spotted the crib on the landing, so she ran up the stairs. Moments later, Dante entered the stairwell, so Jason followed Sam, while Dante attended to his mother. Jason and Sam arrived on the hospital's rooftop, but stopped short when they saw Heather holding the baby. "Give me my son," Sam tearfully ordered Heather. 10/12 Later, Steve was shocked when he saw an injured Olivia in a wheelchair as Epiphany took Olivia to an examination room. Olivia quickly filled Steve in on what had transpired in the stairwell and then revealed that Heather had gone to the rooftop with the baby. Epiphany and Steve settled Olivia into a bed as Olivia confessed that Heather had looked exactly like she had in Olivia's vision. On the hospital's rooftop, Sam tearfully begged Heather to return Sam's baby to her, but Heather claimed that Sam's baby was no longer with them. Sam cried as she looked at her son, while Jason warned Heather that it was over. Jason revealed that they knew about the baby switch. Sam insisted that she had spent nights grieving for her son, so she wanted him back. Heather refused to hand over the baby, so Sam promised to give Heather whatever Heather wanted. Heather explained that she wanted quite a few things, so she didn't know where to begin. Heather inched her way to the edge of the rooftop as she vowed that she would never give the baby up. Sam argued that the baby belonged with his mother, so Heather replied that it was a good thing that he was in his mother's arms. Jason and Sam made it clear that they wouldn't let Heather leave with the baby. Moments later, Dante appeared on the rooftop with his gun drawn. "What's the problem here, Heather? Dante asked. Dante ordered Heather to hand the baby to Sam, but Heather refused. Heather wanted Dante to leave before he forced her to do something that she didn't want to do. Sam was curious what Heather meant, so Heather offered to show Sam if Dante didn't go. Jason and Sam implored Dante to let them handle things because they wouldn't allow Heather leave with the baby. Dante reluctantly agreed, so he left the rooftop and then went to check on his mother. Dante assured Olivia and Steve that the baby was fine, but Heather was on the rooftop. Steve feared that Jason and Sam wouldn't be able to talk Heather down, so he decided to go to the rooftop to help. Dante and Olivia strongly objected, because Heather had already attacked Steve. Steve realized that they had a point, so he backed down. Dante decided to call Anna with an update, so he left the room. Meanwhile, Epiphany wondered if she had heard correctly about the baby being Sam's son. Steve and Olivia confirmed that it was true. Epiphany was shocked because she recalled the night that Téa had been admitted with her newborn and Sam's devastation over losing the baby. Olivia and Epiphany's eyes filled with tears as Epiphany recounted how Sam had refused to let go of her baby because it would have meant that he was really gone. Outside, Anna and John arrived. Dante led them to a monitor that showed live footage from a surveillance camera on the rooftop. Moments later, Todd and Téa arrived. Téa was desperate to get to the rooftop, but John made it clear that Téa had to stay where she was because Heather was unpredictable. John asked Todd to keep an eye on Téa. Téa was confused when she learned that Jason and Sam were on the rooftop with Heather, because she had no idea who Jason and Sam were. On the rooftop, Jason insisted that the baby was his and Sam's son, but Heather wondered who he was trying to kid. Heather reminded Jason that he hadn't wanted the baby because the baby was Franco's son. Heather realized that Jason had considered Franco to be crazy, but Heather insisted that Franco had been a genius.
Jason and Sam didn't want to hear it, but Heather ignored them as she sang Franco's praises. According to Heather, Franco had inherited talent and brains. "And he got your wife," Heather added. Jason's temper flared. "That's enough," Jason warned Heather. Heather assured Jason and Sam that she had not been fooled by their united front, because their marriage was a sham, which she blamed on Jason's pride. Heather insisted that the baby deserved more than a broken home and Jason for a father. "I want my son," Jason argued. Sam looked at Jason with tears in her eyes, but Heather refused to believe that Jason could ever love the baby. Sam begged Heather not to keep the baby from her. Heather wasn't moved, because Sam had kept Steve from Heather. Sam couldn't believe that Heather had been motivated by revenge, so Heather clarified that she wanted the baby because Sam didn't love the child. Heather accused Sam of endangering the baby from the beginning by giving birth in a seedy motel room and then abandoning him shortly after birth in a storm. Sam explained that it had all been beyond her control, but Heather didn't believe Sam. Sam realized that Heather wanted the baby because Heather was devastated over losing Steve. Sam promised to talk to Steve on Heather's behalf, if Heather returned the baby to Sam. Heather appeared to weaken as her eyes filled with tears. Sam admitted that it had been her fault that Steve had turned away from Heather, so Sam would do everything in her power to help reunite Heather with Steve. However, seconds later, Anna used a bullhorn to inform Heather that the hospital was surrounded and that Heather had no other option but to hand the baby over to Jason and Sam. Sam assured Heather that she would speak to Anna to ask Anna to go easy on Heather, but Heather realized that Anna was right about Heather's options. Jason agreed that Heather's only choice was to hand the baby over. Heather decided that if she couldn't have the baby, then no one else could either. Jason and Sam were horrified as Heather suddenly jumped off of the roof with the baby in her arms. On the ground, Téa screamed as she watched Heather and the baby fall from the rooftop. On the hospital's rooftop, Sam pleaded with Heather to hand over the baby, but Heather refused. Jason insisted that Heather didn't have any other choice, but Heather disagreed. Heather cried that if she couldn't have the baby then no one could. Sam watched in horror as Heather threw herself off of the hospital's rooftop. Jason immediately sprang into action as he desperately tried to reach for the baby. Téa screamed in terror when she saw Heather plummet from the roof. Seconds later, Heather landed in a nearby patch of grass, so Anna, Dante, and Elizabeth ran to Heather. Téa anxiously asked, "Does she have my son?" On the rooftop, Jason pulled the baby to safety. Sam's eyes filled with tears as she asked if the baby was okay. Jason assured Sam that the baby was perfect, except for one thing. "He wants his mom," Jason softly said. Sam stood rooted to the spot as she confessed that she had thought about reuniting with her son countless times, but she didn't know what to do. Jason promised Sam that her fear would pass in a moment. "Trust me," Jason added. Sam insisted that she trusted Jason with her life and her son’s life. Jason smiled as he placed the baby in Sam's arms. Sam cried as she told the baby, "I'm your mom." She thanked Jason for saving her son's life and giving him back to her. Jason confessed that all he had ever wanted was to see her hold her baby. In the hospital's courtyard, Elizabeth revealed that the baby was not with Heather. Téa sagged with relief. "My baby is okay," Téa told Todd as Elizabeth worked on Heather. Miraculously, Heather had survived the fall from the rooftop. Anna whispered to Heather, "You and I have unfinished business," and then ordered Heather not to die. Anna stepped aside as Elizabeth and others attended to Heather. Téa was outraged when Anna refused to allow Téa to go to the rooftop to check on the baby. "Who the hell are you to tell me that I can't see my son?" Téa demanded. Anna ignored Téa. Meanwhile, Heather was loaded onto a gurney, as Steve and Patrick arrived. Elizabeth tried to hold her brother back, but Steve fought his way to his mother's side. Heather asked if the baby was okay and then begged Steve not to leave her. Anna wondered if Heather would survive and be fit for trial, but Patrick explained that it was too soon to tell. On the rooftop, John stood in the doorway, as Sam happily reunited with her son. John asked how Jason, Sam, and the baby were doing, so Jason assured him that everyone was okay. Jason and Sam were curious how Heather was, so John explained that Heather had survived the fall and that medical personnel were working on her. "Why?" Sam asked. Sam pointed out that Heather had fully intended to jump with the baby in her arms. Jason reminded Sam that Heather couldn't hurt Sam or the baby anymore. John agreed and then gently suggested that Jason and Sam take the baby inside to be checked out. A few minutes later, Jason and Sam approached the nurses' station, so Britt offered to examine the baby. No one corrected Britt when she assumed that Jason was the father. Nearby, Dante explained to John that they would need to get an official statement from Jason and Sam. John agreed, but he asked Dante to wait for things to calm down. Dante agreed that there wasn't a rush, since John had gotten a preliminary statement. Moments later, Heather was rushed to an examination room. Elizabeth pulled her brother away so that Patrick could work on Heather. Heather was unconscious, so Patrick ordered a battery of tests, x-rays, and scans. Moments later, Heather flatlined.
Patrick approached Steve. Patrick explained that Heather was stable, but she had a spinal injury and would need surgery immediately. Sabrina informed Patrick that Heather had regained consciousness, so Steve went to see his mother. At the nurses' station, Téa fell to her knees with relief when she saw the baby that she believed was her son safely nestled in Sam's arms. "Oh, my son," Téa cried with tears of joy. John, Todd, Jason, and Sam shifted uncomfortably as Téa admitted that she had never been so happy to see her son in her life. Téa recognized Jason and Sam from her stay in the hospital, so she thanked them for saving her son's life. Téa reached out to take her baby, but Sam threw her arm out and ordered Téa to stay away. John blocked Téa's path as Jason and Sam quickly followed Britt to an exam room. Téa demanded to know what was going on, so John suggested that they take a walk so that they could talk. Téa's confusion turned to anger as she insisted that she wanted to be with her son. John turned to Todd for help, but Todd seemed at a loss for words. John explained that Téa needed to hear what John had to say, but Téa reminded John that she had been sick with worry for three days, so she needed her son. Later, in the exam room, Britt announced that the baby was fine. Elizabeth played with the baby while Britt explained that she wanted the baby to stay overnight in the hospital for observation. Jason and Sam were relieved that the baby was fine. After Britt left, Elizabeth handed the baby to Sam. Elizabeth admitted that she was happy for Sam and promised to get the paperwork started to have a new birth certificate issued for the baby. Jason and Sam thanked Elizabeth. After Elizabeth left, Sam admitted that she didn't know how to feel, because one moment she was happy, and the next she wanted to curl up into a ball. Sam confessed that it was hard to think of the pain that Téa would feel when she learned the truth about the baby. Jason assured Sam that it was okay to let herself be happy. Téa tried to go to the exam room, so Todd finally stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Téa to keep her from going to get the baby. "You're not getting that kid back," Todd quietly explained. Téa reminded Todd that the baby was hers. Téa's eyes filled with tears of anguish as Todd explained that her baby had died and that the baby in the exam room was Sam's son. 10/16 Téa refused to believe Todd. She slapped him across the face and then implored John to tell her the truth. John wrapped his arms around Téa as he reminded her that she had feared that something had been wrong with her son after his birth.
Téa insisted that Todd had saved her son, so Todd told her that he had taken the baby for help but had ended up at a shed in the woods. John picked up the story by revealing that Sam had given birth around the same time and had ended up at the same shed with her own newborn. Téa argued that she hadn't seen Sam, so John explained that Sam had passed out in the shed. Téa recalled finding Todd with the baby, so she had taken Victor out of Todd's arms. "You took a baby," Todd quietly corrected Téa. John added that the baby that Téa had taken had been Sam's son. John asked Téa to look at him as he explained to her that her son was gone. Téa tearfully demanded proof, so John revealed that he had a DNA test. He handed the test to Téa, but Téa wanted to know where her son was. John told Téa that her son had been buried in a cemetery in Port Charles. At the hospital, Sam and Jason were in an examination room with the baby. Sam rocked her son in her arms as Jason admitted that she looked beautiful. Jason realized that the baby didn't know it, but the baby was where he belonged. Sam suddenly realized that she didn't have a crib or anything else for her son, because she had given everything away after she had been told that he had died.
Jason was confident that Alexis and Sam's sisters would be able to get Sam what she needed by the time Sam was able to take the baby home. Sam wasn't ready to talk to anyone about what had happened, because she was still trying to process everything. Sam confessed that she was nervous because she didn't know anything about taking care of babies. Jason advised Sam to give it some time, because he was certain that she would be a great mother. Sam smiled, but then admitted that she felt almost guilty to be happy, because another mother was grieving. Jason insisted that Heather was to blame for what had happened, not Sam, so Sam had nothing to be sorry for. Moments later, a nurse entered with some papers for Sam to sign, so Sam put the baby in a crib. The baby fussed, so Jason picked him up. Sam smiled as she watched Jason with her son. After the nurse left, Sam confessed that the baby fit perfectly in Jason's arms. Jason smiled and insisted that the baby was tough like Sam. Sam reminded Jason of her fantasy about what it would have been like if her baby had lived; she confided that the reality was exactly like her fantasy. "There's no 'what if' anymore. There's only 'what now'," Jason replied. Jason warned Sam that her whole life would change, but it would be fun as she learned her son's likes and dislikes. Jason talked about taking Michael to the park when Michael had been a baby, because Michael had liked lying on a blanket and watching the leaves rustle in the trees. Jason handed the baby to Sam as Sam realized that she didn't even know what to call her son. "Victor," Téa said from the doorway. Téa quickly assured Sam and Jason that she knew that the baby belonged to Sam, not her. Sam told Téa that she was sorry for the pain that Téa was going through. Téa asked for the opportunity to say goodbye to Victor. Jason was reluctant, but Sam handed the baby to Téa. Todd watched from the doorway as Téa tearfully admitted that it was the last time that she would get to call the baby Victor, but she would always remember him that way. Téa told the baby to be good for Sam and to share his sweet smiles with his mother. Téa revealed that the baby slept through the night, mostly, and had started to eat solids. Téa explained that he liked carrots but not peas, and loved being read to before his naps, especially in Spanish. Téa handed the baby back to Sam and then gave Sam a small stuffed duck with a rattle inside that Téa's daughter, Dani, had given the baby. Téa explained that the baby couldn't sleep without it. Sam thanked Téa for taking such good care of the baby. Téa gently stroked the top of the baby's head and then gave him a soft kiss. "Goodbye, Victor," Téa tearfully said, and then she left. Afterwards, Sam decided that she wanted to give her son the name that they had given him in her fantasy: Daniel Edward. Jason smiled as he wrapped his arm around Sam and Daniel.Todd approached John to ask why John hadn't told Téa about his theory that Todd had conspired with Heather. John explained that Téa had been through enough for one day, but he was confident that Téa would soon learn the truth. A short time later, Téa ran past them.
Todd started to follow Téa, but a police officer appeared out of nowhere to handcuff Todd and read him his rights. Todd pleaded with John to let him check on Téa to make certain that she was okay. Todd promised to turn himself in afterwards, but John refused. John explained that Téa would not be okay, because her heart had been ripped out, which was on Todd. 10/17 At the hospital, Jason left a message for Anna, informing Anna that he would be at the police station later that morning with his attorney. Sonny walked up, as Jason ended the call. Sonny wondered if the police were giving Jason a hard time about what had transpired on the roof with Heather. Jason explained that surveillance cameras had captured everything, so Jason only had to give a statement. Sonny noticed that Jason sounded like a father as Jason talked about the harrowing experience. Jason smiled and showed Sonny pictures of the baby as he revealed that Sam had named him Daniel Edward. Sonny thought that choosing the name Edward was a sign that Sam wanted Jason to be a part of her life. Jason didn't think that he had a right to expect it, even though he wanted Sam and Danny to go home with him. However, Jason wondered what kind of life he would be asking Sam and Danny to share with him, because they would always be targets. Sonny pointed out that Sam had known that when she had married Jason. Jason feared that Sam might not want that kind of life for her son, because Jason didn't want it for Danny. Sonny was curious if Jason intended to quit the business. "And do what?" Jason asked. Jason couldn't imagine moving, either, because he and Sam had family in town. Sonny reminded Jason that no one was guaranteed a perfect life, so it was pointless to expect it.
Sonny insisted that all Jason could do was love Sam and Danny. Jason suggested that he should love them enough to let them go, but Sonny wondered if that was really what Jason wanted. Jason admitted that he yearned to have Sam and Danny in his life, so that Danny would know that Jason was his father and that Jason loved the little boy, no matter what. Sonny insisted that Jason had to fight for that, the same way that Sonny fought for what he wanted. Jason realized that Sonny was thinking about Kate. Sonny nodded, and then revealed that Alexis had a plan to get Kate committed. Sonny explained that he was fighting for Kate, so Jason shouldn't give up on Sam, because Jason deserved to be happy. A few minutes later, Sonny left. In the hospital room, Sam held Danny in her arms as he suckled on a bottle. She realized that there had been a lot of changes for him, so she imagined that he missed Téa and that Téa missed him. Sam confessed that Danny seemed to have Jason's calm personality. Sam admitted that she could feel that Danny was her son when she held him, so her fear that someone would rip him away was unfounded. Later, Jason introduced Monica to Daniel Edward. Monica smiled with joy, because she was certain that Edward would be honored when she told him the baby's name. However, Monica was curious if Danny's last name was McCall or Morgan. Alexis, Kristina, and Molly burst into the room before Sam and Jason could answer the question. Alexis quickly scooped her grandson up as the aunts fawned over the baby. Jason smiled and then led Monica into the hallway. Monica once again pressed Jason for an answer about Danny's last name. Jason explained that he and Sam hadn't had time to discuss it, and then asked if Monica had heard anything about Heather. Monica revealed that Heather had survived the surgery but was in a coma. Monica hoped that Heather recovered, so that Heather could pay for what she had done to Sam and Téa. Monica then returned to the topic of Jason and Sam's marriage. She was curious if there was any chance that Jason and Sam might work things out. Jason admitted that he didn't know. Monica was certain that Jason could love the baby, so she hoped that wasn't holding Jason back. Jason assured her that he loved Danny, but he couldn't change the mistakes that he had made, so Jason had decided that what happened next was up to Sam. In Danny's hospital room, Sam took pictures of Alexis, Kristina, Molly, and Danny. Jason returned to the room as Molly wondered if Sam and Jason were getting back together. Alexis tactfully changed the subject by reminding Sam that Danny had been cleared to go home. Sam confessed that she didn't have a crib, baby clothes, bottles, or anything else for the baby. Alexis assured Sam that it was okay, because everything that Sam would need was being delivered, as they spoke. Alexis volunteered to take care of Danny while Sam and her sisters set everything up. Kristina once again teased Alexis about being a grandmother, so Alexis made it clear that only Danny could call her grandma. After Alexis and the girls left, Jason told Sam that he had hoped that she and Danny would go home with him. 10/18 At the hospital, Jason admitted that he had hoped that Sam and Danny would go home with him. Sam wasn't sure what Jason was asking her. Jason explained that he wanted to share his life with her and the baby, so he was asking her if they could be a family. Sam didn't want Jason to think of Danny as an obligation, so Jason assured her that he didn't. Jason promised Sam that they could have the life that she had dreamed of, because there was nothing standing in their way. "Yes, there is," Sam told him. Jason feared that Sam was referring to John, but she assured him that John wasn't an issue. Sam reminded Jason that Jason had feared that the baby would always be a reminder of Franco. Sam knew that Jason would always protect Danny, but she insisted that Danny needed Jason's love. Jason assured Sam that he didn't see Franco in Danny, so Sam wondered if Jason had been telling the truth on the rooftop when he had insisted to Heather that he was Danny's father. Jason conceded that Sam had a right to doubt Jason, because he had been blinded by his hatred for Franco. Sam's eyes filled with tears, as Jason admitted that loving a child had nothing to do with DNA. Jason promised her that he wanted to be Danny's father and vowed that he would love Sam and Danny forever and would never leave them. Sam didn't know what to say, so she decided to fetch Danny's bottle before he woke up. After Sam left, Jason picked Danny up. He apologized, but promised to be there for Danny and Sam, if it wasn't too late. Moments later, Carly walked in. Carly smiled with joy when she saw Danny sleeping in Jason's arms. Jason offered to let her hold him, but Carly declined, because Danny looked peaceful. Carly hoped that Jason and Sam would work things out, but Jason admitted that it was up to Sam. Carly was annoyed, because she thought that Sam should be open to reconciling, since Jason had reunited Sam with Danny. Jason didn't want to argue with Carly, so Carly let it drop. Carly was stunned when Jason confided that Todd might have been Heather's accomplice. He admitted that there wasn't any proof, but the police were questioning Todd. Carly was upset, because Todd and Jason were the only people who had never judged Carly, despite the horrible things that she had done. Carly confided that she had almost considered Todd a friend. Jason wondered what that meant, so Carly confessed that Jason was the only true friend that she had, because he had always been there for her and had caught her when she had fallen. Jason assured Carly that she was a strong person. "That's because I have you to believe in me," Carly explained. Carly hugged Jason, as she told him that she loved him. Moments later, Sam walked in. Carly admitted that Sam had a beautiful baby, and then reminded Sam that Sam was a mother now, so Carly hoped that Sam did the right thing by allowing Jason to be a part of Danny's life.
After Carly left, Jason apologized for what Carly had said. Sam assured him that it was okay. Jason promised to give Sam all the time that she needed, but he was curious if she had made a decision. Sam picked up Danny, and then tearfully announced, "Danny and I are ready to go home with you." Jason smiled and hugged his family. 10/19 Sam, Jason, and baby Danny arrived home at Jason's penthouse. Sam and Jason were ecstatic about their newfound happiness. When Sam wondered where Danny would sleep, Jason said that he had a port-a-crib in the closet that he had kept in the hope that they would find their way back to each other. Sam was overjoyed that all her dreams were coming true. Jason told her that they would stop looking back and start looking forward to the wonderful life ahead of them. As they headed up the stairs, Sam paused and said that the day was kind of huge because it marked the first night home with the family. Jason agreed and put an arm around Sam as they went upstairs to put Danny to bed. After Danny was asleep, Jason and Sam went into the bedroom that they had shared and exchanged a kiss. Sam said that she had missed the room, and Jason replied that he had missed Sam being there. Sam placed her phoenix figurine on top of the bureau next to Jason's dragon. She commented that things were the way they were supposed to be. Jason admitted that he had been sleeping on the couch because he had not felt right about sleeping in their bed without Sam. Sam and Jason kissed, and as they began to get passionate, Sam told Jason that she had never stopped loving him. They kissed again. When Danny cried out, Jason and Sam playfully argued about who would see to him. Sam won the battle, and while she was gone, Jason found his wedding ring and put it on. Sam carried Danny to the bedroom and placed him in Jason's arms. She gave Jason her wedding ring, and Jason placed it on Sam's finger. Jason told Sam that he would love her forever. Sam said that her ring would never be removed from her finger again. Sam took a photo of the happy threesome and said it was the first of many family pictures. Sam noticed the blinking message light on their phone. When she and Jason heard the message from Bernie, Sam encouraged Jason to go take care of his job. Sam said that she and Danny would be waiting when Jason got home. Jason said that he loved them both. Sam replied that they loved Jason more. Sam gave Jason the phoenix figurine as a token of her love for him and told him to be careful. After Jason was gone, Sam showed Danny the dragon figurine and told him the story of the dragon and the phoenix. As she was talking to Danny, Sam heard a knock on the door. When Sam opened the door, John McBain was waiting. On the docks, Bernie heard a noise. When he turned, Joe Jr. was holding a gun on him. Despite Bernie's pleas, Joe Jr. shot him. Bernie was still alive, and as Joe Jr. prepared to shoot Bernie again, Jason arrived and shot Joe Jr., who crawled away. Jason ran to Bernie, who tried to tell Jason what he had done for Duke, but Jason was focused on Bernie and told Bernie to save his strength. Suddenly, a shot rang out, and Jason crumpled to the ground. Jason lay still and unmoving as his blood pooled and dripped steadily into the Port Charles harbor. 10/22 As Joe Scully Jr. was about to shoot Bernie, Jason arrived on the docks and shot Joe Jr. Jason kicked Joe Jr.'s gun away and Joe Jr. crawled after it. As Jason tried to tend to Bernie, Duke Lavery shot Jason in the back. Jason crawled to the edge of the dock and collapsed. Duke followed him and kicked Jason's body into the water, where it disappeared beneath the surface. Joe Jr. listened as Duke bid goodbye to "Mr. Morgan" and told the sinking Jason that he should not have interfered. Duke turned his attention to Joe Jr. and said that Joe Jr. was a real disappointment because he could not even kill an accountant. Duke said that the reason that he had delegated the job to Joe Jr. was to keep his own hands clean. Duke said that since Joe Jr. had failed in his task and had thus forced Duke to dirty his hands, Duke had no further use for Joe Jr.
As Duke was about to shoot Joe Jr., he noticed that Bernie was still alive and using his cell phone. When Duke put another shot into Bernie, Joe Jr. ran. Duke fired at Joe Jr., but when Duke heard police sirens nearing the pier, he left hurriedly without making sure that Bernie was dead. Sonny received a call from a very weak Bernie, who summoned him to pier 52 and whispered Jason's name. At the same time, the police got a call that Joe Jr. had been spotted and shots had been fired at Pier 52. They rushed out. Sonny followed, but not before cautioning Michael to stay where he was.
Bernie was still alive when Sonny and the police arrived on the scene. He managed to let Sonny know that Jason had been shot and had fallen into the water. Sonny immediately leaped into the harbor. Sonny continued diving until the police plucked him out and divers in wet suits took over. Sonny went back to Bernie, who confirmed that Joe Jr. had shot him. Bernie expired before he could warn Sonny about Duke Lavery. Sonny left the scene, muttering that Joe Jr. would pay. He did not hear police officers remark that Bernie had been shot by two different guns or that the divers were giving up their search for Jason. Sam was as surprised to see John at Jason's penthouse door as John was to see Sam in Jason's apartment. Sam explained how she and Jason had gotten back together and recommitted to each other. John was genuinely pleased for Sam. Sam said that she and John needed to talk because they had some real feelings to deal with. Sam said that there was no doubt that she and John had had a connection, but that it could not go to the next level. John understood and agreed. Sam said that she would always value John's friendship and the part he had played in reuniting her with her son, Danny. Sam said she hoped to have John in her life as a friend always. John said that he felt the same way about Sam. As John played with baby Danny, Sam asked how things were going in John's life and about John's attempts to see his son, Liam.
John said that he would get his day in court, but in the meantime the restraining order remained in place, and he was not allowed to see his son. John said that he was determined to do whatever had to be done so that John could gain the right to be in his son's life. Sam wanted to know why John had wanted to see Jason. John admitted that he wanted to report to Jason that Todd was denying that he knew anything about Heather switching Sam and Téa's babies. John said that there was no proof to contradict Todd's version. Sam said that Todd's behavior had been suspicious when she had worked for him. Sam admitted that even though she wanted justice, she was too happy at that particular moment to care about Todd. Sam asked after Téa and sympathized with all that Téa had lost. As John headed out the door, Sam told him that she hoped he got his family back. John wished continued happiness for Sam, Jason, and Danny. John encouraged Sam to always cherish the happiness that she had at that moment. A few minutes after John left the penthouse, Sam answered another knock on the door. A grim-faced Sonny stood on the threshold. Sam asked Sonny what he was doing there. 10/23 At the penthouse, Sam was curious why Sonny was there, since Jason had left to meet Bernie at the pier. "It's about Jason," Sonny quietly explained, as he followed Sam into the penthouse. Sam didn't seem to notice Sonny's somber expression as she introduced Sonny to her son, Danny, and then prattled on about how she and Jason were finally back on track and happy again. Sonny confessed that he had something important to tell her. "Jason's been shot," Sonny revealed. Sam's smile disappeared as she quickly prepared to go to the hospital. Sonny was forced to explain that Jason had been shot on the pier and then had fallen into the water. Sam refused to believe it, so Sonny told her about Bernie's final words and Sonny's attempt to search for Jason. Sam insisted on going to the pier herself to check, so she asked Sonny to stay with Danny and then ran out of the penthouse before Sonny could stop her. Sonny picked up Danny and agreed that the baby looked like Jason. Sonny refused to talk about Jason in the past tense, because Jason had been shot before and had survived. Afterwards, Sonny called Michael with an update and to ask Michael to watch Danny while Sonny went to check on Sam. A short time later, Michael and Starr arrived. Michael demanded to accompany his father to the pier, but Sonny refused, because he didn't want Michael to see Jason if the worst should happen. Michael immediately backed down.
After Sonny left, Michael was struck by how good Starr was with Danny. Starr reminded him that she'd had experience with young children, so Michael opened up to her about his early years. Starr was surprised when Michael revealed that Jason had raised him, as his own son, for a year after Michael's birth. Michael explained that his biological father, A.J., had threatened to take Michael away from Carly while she had still be pregnant with Michael, so Jason had agreed to pretend to be Michael's father.
Michael then confided that Jason had named him after Jason's best friend. Starr realized that Jason's best friend had eventually adopted Michael. Jason explained that Jason had always been there for Michael, even when Michael had gone to jail, so he couldn't imagine Jason being gone. Starr urged Michael not to entertain the worst, because things might be okay. On Pier 52, a police officer gave Dante a quick overview of what they had been able to piece together about the shooting. The evidence suggested that Joe had shot Bernie, and that Jason had fired at Joe. The police officer suspected that Joe might have shot Jason, but Dante reserved judgment as he looked over the scene. The police officer warned Dante the divers were considering calling off the search and then walked away. Later, Sam arrived on the scene. Dante explained that they had searched for Jason, to no avail, so the search team had decided to call off the search because of the strong current and frigid water temperatures. Sam refused to give up looking for her husband, so she demanded that they give her a scuba suit. She reminded Dante that she had been a salvage diver at one time, so she had dived in worse conditions. Moments later, Dante received the call about Joe. Afterwards, Sam made it clear that she refused to let the matter drop because nothing would keep her from searching for Jason. Dante insisted that there wasn't anything that Sam could do that the Coast Guard hadn't done already.
Moments later, Sonny arrived, so Dante appealed to Sonny to reason with Sam. Sam demanded to know where Danny was, so Sonny assured her that Michael and Starr were watching the baby. Sam spotted a diver, so she decided to appeal to him to let her dive for her husband. Dante recalled that Sonny had been the first person to dive for Jason and the last person to talk to Bernie. Sonny explained that Bernie had accused Joe of firing the gun, so Dante revealed that Joe was dead.
Sonny urged Sam to be careful as she prepared to dive. Sam insisted that she needed to find Jason and then slipped into the water. A short time later, Sam emerged from the water. Sonny wondered if she had found anything. Sam opened her palm. Nestled inside was the tiny figurine that she had given to Jason as he had left the penthouse earlier that evening. 10/24 In Metro Court's lobby, Sonny approached Carly at the front desk. He explained that he needed to talk to her privately, but she wasn't in the mood to discuss the mess with Johnny and Connie. Sonny gently broke the news that something had happened to Jason. Carly immediately asked what was going on, so Sonny told her about Bernie's message, asking Jason to meet Bernie on the pier. Carly wanted him to get to the point, so Sonny told her about the shooting. 10/25 At the penthouse, Sam was delighted when Spinelli arrived, because she was certain that Spinelli would be able to help her find Jason. "You want my help locating his remains?" Spinelli asked. Sam made it clear that she believed that Jason was alive.
Spinelli explained that he had gone diving to search for Jason, so he knew from personal experience that the harbor waters were incredibly cold even with the proper equipment. Sam remained adamant that Jason was alive, so she had decided to chart the currents to find her husband.
Spinelli followed Sam to the dinning room to review the maps and charts. She reminded him that they were private investigators who made a living by following the clues, so she urged him to keep an open mind while he looked at the case with objective eyes. Sam was relieved when Spinelli agreed to help her.
A short time later, Sam introduced Daniel Morgan to his "Uncle Spinelli." Spinelli was immediately struck by how much Danny resembled Jason, so Sam insisted that Jason had been Danny's father in every way that mattered. She firmly believed that Jason was trying to get home to them.
On the pier, Spinelli and Sam, pushing Danny in a stroller, walked up as Anna and Dante discussed the second shooter. Anna immediately extended her condolences when she saw Sam, but Sam ignored the words of sympathy as she announced that she and Spinelli were licensed investigators, so Sam wanted to know what Anna and Dante had been talking abut.
Anna tactfully changed the subject by asking Sam if it would be possible to get a copy of the message that Bernie had left for Jason. Anna explained that it might help, so Sam happily volunteered to drop it off at the police station. After Spinelli and Sam left, Dante remarked that it was clear that Sam was in deep denial.
Anna explained that denial was actually a form of hope for grieving people. Nearby, Duke had returned to eavesdrop on Anna and Dante. Anna handed Dante the baggy with the strip of cloth that Anna had found in the alley, so she instructed Dante to have the fibers analyzed for possible trace DNA.
After Dante left, Duke stepped forward. He feigned surprise that he was at the crime scene that he had read about in the newspapers. Anna was curious why Duke was there, so Duke revealed that he had gotten a job that he was eager to talk to her about.
Meanwhile, Sam was surprised when she arrived home and saw Diane standing on the doorstep. Diane smiled at Sam as she carefully kept the paternity test results hidden from Sam's sight.
10/26 Sam was surprised to see Diane standing on her doorstep when she arrived home with Danny. Sam noticed the envelope in Diane's hand, so Sam asked about it. Diane explained that it was legal correspondence that was unrelated to Sam. Sam invited Diane in, so Diane entered and extended her condolences. Sam insisted that it wasn't necessary, because Jason wasn't dead. Diane appreciated that Jason's body hadn't been located, but she offered her services if Sam needed anything.
Sam coldly informed Diane that neither she nor Jason would ever turn to Diane for help, even if Diane was the last attorney on earth, because Diane had represented Todd. Diane explained that the charges had been dropped because of a lack of evidence like countless other times with other clients. Sam resented Diane comparing Jason to Todd, so she ordered Diane to leave. Seconds later, John appeared on the doorstep. He wondered if there was a problem, so Sam explained that Diane was just leaving.
Diane smiled politely, but stopped at the door to remind Sam that Jason had been more than a client to Diane; he had been a good friend. John closed the door behind Diane, as Sam explained that she had been annoyed with Diane for representing Todd. Sam warned John that she didn't want to hear anyone tell her how sorry they were, because Sam refused to accept that Jason was dead. John agreed, because Jason's body hadn't been found. Sam smiled with relief because John didn't think that she was crazy or in denial.
John assured her that he appreciated that Sam was a wife who simply wanted to know exactly what had happened to her husband. Sam vowed not to give up hope until she knew the entire story. Sam and John the various things that might have happened to Jason if Jason had survived the gun shot and frigid temperatures of the water. Sam confided that the police suspected that Joe had had an accomplice, so John revealed that someone had arranged for Joe to get out of jail in Atlantic City.
Spinelli went to Sam's penthouse to tell her about his encounter with Todd. John wasn't surprised that Todd hadn't confessed to his role in the baby switch, but Spinelli admitted that Todd had seemed on the verge of opening up until Diane had arrived. Sam was grateful for all that Spinelli had done for her. John decided to follow up on his lead in Atlantic City, so he left. Spinelli was curious what John had been talking about, so Sam revealed that John was working on something that might lead her and Danny to Jason.
At the Quartermaine mansion, Monica was looking at a photograph of Jason and A.J. during happy times. Tracy entered the room and immediately told Monica how sorry she was for Monica's loss. Tracy admitted that she had never thought that it would happen, despite Jason's profession.
Monica claimed that it was Tracy's fault, because Tracy's mobster boyfriend had killed Jason. Tracy argued that Joe was only a suspect, but Monica didn't care, because Tracy had known that Joe had been a rapist and murder.
Monica believed that Jason would still be alive if Tracy had reported Joe to the police when Joe had shown up with a gunshot wound. Tracy suggested that Monica look in the mirror if Monica wanted someone to blame for Jason's death. Tracy accused Monica and Alan of coddling Jason and A.J., as well as excusing and ignoring their mistakes, selfishness, and crimes. Monica conceded that A.J. had made mistakes. "And Jason didn't?" Tracy asked, incredulous.
Monica insisted that Jason hadn't been responsible for the choices that he had made because of the brain injury that Jason had sustained in the car crash. Tracy pointed out that A.J.'s drinking and driving had caused the horrific accident. Monica argued that A.J. had paid for what he had done because the accident had ruined A.J.'s life more than it had Jason's.
Tracy insisted that Jason and A.J.'s lives had already been ruined because Monica and Alan had been too busy philandering instead of parenting. Tracy wasn't surprised that both Quartermaine sons had met with a terrible end. "And you were so good at parenting?" Monica asked.
Tracy reminded Monica that Ned and Dillon were still alive, while Monica's sons were dead due to Monica and Alan's moral failings. Tracy dared Monica to deny it, but Monica couldn't.
Monica was furious that Tracy had kept the information from the police, but Tracy thought that Monica was overreacting. Monica shouted that she didn't have Alan, Emily, Jason, or A.J., so her entire family was gone. "I'm all alone," Monica cried.
Tracy was immediately remorseful, so she invited Monica to lash out as much as Monica needed, because even though Tracy didn't have a great relationship with Ned and Dillon, her son's weren't gone like Monica's sons were. Tracy once again extended her condolences to Monica, and then left. Monica picked up the photograph and hugged it, as a tear slid down her face.
Moments later, the patio doors opened. "I thought she'd never leave," a deep male voice confessed. Monica looked up and smiled when she saw A.J. standing before her.
10/29 At the penthouse, Sam lay listlessly on the sofa, holding Jason's jacket, when Carly dropped by for a visit. Sam tried to force Carly to leave, but Carly told Sam that Jason had been her best friend and that Jason would want Carly to take care of Sam and her son. Carly said that she would babysit or do anything Sam needed. Sam said that she had her family for that. Carly asked where they were. Sam replied that her family was giving her space and asked Carly to do the same.
Carly said that space was the last thing that Sam needed. Sam was hostile to Carly when she asked Carly what Carly thought Jason would feel if he knew that Carly was defending Todd Manning. Carly said that the charges against Todd had been dropped. Carly said that she believed Todd because she knew when someone was lying to her. Sam retorted that Carly had not known about Johnny's lies.
Carly ruefully admitted that Johnny had fooled her, but that she was sure of Todd. With tears in her eyes, Carly admitted that she had been repeatedly listening to the last voicemail that Jason had left for her before his disappearance and that she took comfort from it. Sam said that she wished that she had voicemail from Jason to comfort her.
Carly insisted that Sam take her phone. Sam tried to refuse it, but Carly would not take "No" for an answer. Carly left after telling Sam that it seemed really unfair that all they had of Jason was memories and voicemail. As Sam was about to listen to the recording, Steve knocked on her door. When Sam asked what he wanted, he handed her the paternity test that proved that Jason was Danny’s biological father.
10/30 At the penthouse, Steve handed Sam the results of the paternity test. Sam read it, but didn't understand what it meant, because it appeared to say that Jason was Daniel's father. "He is," Steve told her. Sam was afraid to believe the astounding news, so Steve assured her that he had personally confirmed the results of the test. Steve explained the test results had been found among his mother's things, so he had verified the information before he had given the test results to Sam.
Sam was overjoyed because she was certain that Jason would be ecstatic when she shared the news with him. Steve's expression grew somber, so Sam asked Steve not to look at her like that. She explained that she was certain that Jason would return home because nothing would keep Jason away from her and Danny.
Sam showed her son the results of the paternity test as she explained that Jason was his father, not Franco. She smiled with joy as Jason entered the penthouse and asked her what she had been talking to Danny about. Sam quickly handed Jason the paternity test results, and then threw herself into his arms. Jason hugged Sam tightly as he realized that Danny was indeed his son. However, Jason assured her that he would have loved Danny regardless of who Danny's biological father was.
Sam was relieved that Danny's paternity hadn't made a difference to Jason. Jason was glad that they were finally able to put everything that Franco had done to them behind them. Sam agreed that Franco could never hurt them again. Sam and Jason spent some together as a family with Danny, as they basked in the joy of knowing that they were Danny's parents. Jason handed Danny to Sam, so Sam asked Jason to fetch the pacifier.
Sam's smile faded when she realized that Jason was no longer in the room. She called out to him, and then walked around with Danny wrapped tightly in her arms, looking for Jason. Moments later, Sam sat down as tears filled her eyes. Sam was faced with the realization that it had been a dream.
11/2 On pier 52, Carly sat down on a crate and began to talk to Jason. She realized that it might seem a bit morbid to talk to Jason at the scene of his death, but she needed to feel close to him. Carly confessed that she had almost slept with Todd, but she had stopped before things had gone too far because she didn't know if she could trust Todd, even though she wanted to. Carly's eyes filled with tears as she confessed that she wished that Jason were there for her to talk to.
11/6 On pier 52, Sam promised Danny that his father would be home soon. Moments later, John walked up. He offered to leave, but Sam asked him to stay and give her an update on the investigation into Jason's disappearance and who had been working with Joe. John revealed that Jerry Jacks had arranged for Joe's release from jail in Atlantic City. Sam was certain that Jerry had been the second shooter on the pier, but John pointed out that Jerry had died in the explosion weeks earlier.
Sam dismissed John's argument because both Sonny and Jax had survived the explosion, so Jerry could have too. She insisted that they follow the money trail, because it would lead them to Jerry. John played devil's advocate by pointing out that Jerry had no reason to return to town because he already had the ransom money, plus Jerry wouldn't have had a reason to shoot Jason. Sam argued that Jason might have uncovered Jerry's secret. Sam was eager to go to the police.
John assured Sam that he had talked to Anna about what he had uncovered, but the police believed that Jason was dead, not missing. Sam assured John that she knew that Jason was alive, just like she had known that Danny was alive and that he had been Jason's son. John was shocked when she told him about the paternity test, but happy that things had worked out the way that she had wanted them to. Sam begged John to help her find Jason, so John reminded her that he didn't have any jurisdiction in Port Charles. However, he suspected that someone other than Jerry had been working with Joe.
John cautioned Sam not to do anything dangerous because she had a child to consider. John warned Sam that if she talked to the wrong people then bad things might happen, so she had to remember that Danny needed her. Sam insisted that Danny needed her to do the right thing, so if John didn't help Sam, then Sam would find someone who would. John promised that he was on Sam's side and vowed to always be there when she needed him. After John left, Sam called Spinelli.
11/12 In the police commissioner's office of the Port Charles Police Station, Sam asked Anna what she was doing to find Jason. Anna said that she had been in touch with John McBain, who had confirmed that he was helping Sam. John had also informed Anna that Jerry Jacks had been responsible for getting Joe Jr. released from jail in Atlantic City.
Anna told Sam that two different guns had been used to shoot Bernie. One bullet had been fired from a gun found beside Joe Jr.'s body and bore his fingerprints. The other bullet was from an unknown gun of foreign make. Anna added that while she and Dante had been on the docks, discussing the case, they had heard a noise. When they had checked the scene, they had found fibers and hairs at a spot where someone had obviously been lurking and listening.
Both Anna and Sam thought that Jerry Jacks had to have been both the second shooter and the lurker. Sam said that Spinelli was tracing the 88 million dollars that Jerry had blackmailed out of the citizens of Port Charles to secure the antidote to the pathogen that had been used to contaminate the water supply. Anna said she was waiting for results of the hair DNA. When the DNA results arrived, both Anna and Sam were stunned to find out that the sample did not match Jerry's DNA or the DNA of any other person in the system.
Anna assured Sam that she would not close the case until she knew something. Anna told Sam that she understood Sam's need to believe, but cautioned Sam about potential heartbreak as she shared the details of her heart-rending search for Robin. Sam replied that she understood the hurtful loss of a child because she had lost two children, but that she also knew the joy of finding one alive, as Anna knew the joy of finding a husband that she had thought dead for twenty years. Sam said that she was surprised that Anna did not believe in miracles because, like Sam, she had just experienced one.
Anna agreed that there were exceptions. Sam was sure that Jason would be an exception. Sam said that both she and Anna had every reason to hang on to hope, Anna for her child, and Sam for her husband.
11/16 Michael stopped by the penthouse to check on Sam and meet Danny. Sam explained that her son was taking a nap. She admitted that she was grateful for the break because it allowed her the opportunity to work on her investigation. Michael was curious about the case, so Sam revealed that she was trying to figure out who had shot Jason.
Michael apologized for not visiting sooner, but there had been some trouble with his father. Sam assumed that he had been referring to Sonny, but Michael clarified that he had meant A.J. Sam was stunned when Michael revealed that A.J. was alive. Michael explained that A.J. had been in hiding until Carly had reported A.J. to the police.
Michael was frustrated because he had been barred from A.J.'s arraignment. Sam thought that it was for the best because the courthouse would be a circus. Michael was afraid that A.J. wouldn't make bail, but Sam suggested that A.J. belonged behind bars. Michael conceded that his father had done wrong, but he insisted that not everything had been A.J.'s fault.
"Is that what he told you?" Sam wondered. Sam warned Michael that A.J. had only told one side of the story, which had clearly painted A.J. as the victim, but Michael argued that Carly, Sonny, and A.J. had all acted badly and had done damage. Sam admitted that Sonny and Carly weren't perfect, but nothing compared to what A.J. had done. Michael explained that he didn't want his father to go to jail. He assured Sam that it wasn't just about the rape, but also the deplorable conditions and having to always be on guard.
Michael revealed that he resented that Carly, Sonny, and A.J. repeatedly hurled accusations at each other because it left him stuck in the middle. Sam reminded Michael that A.J. was not his responsibility but Michael argued that A.J. was his father, even though Carly wished otherwise. Sam admitted that she had never known her father, so she could understand Michael's desire to want to get to know A.J. She would feel the same if her father were to walk through the door.
However, Sam warned Michael not to forget who A.J. was. Their conversation then drifted to Jason. Michael confessed that he missed Jason because Jason had always been able to help Michael work through his problems. Sam hugged Michael and promised him that she would do everything in her power to find Jason and return him home. Michael wondered if she truly believed that Jason was alive. "Yes," Sam answered and then vowed to rescue her husband and make the person responsible for his disappearance pay.
Later, Sam carried Danny into the living room and handed him to Michael. Michael couldn't believe how much Danny looked like Jason. Sam smiled as she revealed that Heather had tampered with the paternity test, so Jason was Danny's biological father. Michael imagined that Jason had been thrilled when he learned the news. Sam confessed that Jason had disappeared before she could tell Jason. However, she intended to share the good news with Jason when she found him. "You hear that, Danny? Your mom says your dad's coming back," Michael told the baby.
Michael knew what it was like to unexpectedly have a father return. Sam decided to take Danny upstairs to change his diaper, so Michael told her that he would see himself out. Moments later, Michael opened the door, just as A.J. arrived. "Thank God," A.J. said, out of breath. "Are you okay?" he asked his son. Michael had no idea what A.J. was talking about. "Tracy," A.J. said as it dawned on him what Tracy had done.
11/19 At Sam's penthouse, A.J. thanked Sam for letting him stay there, but Sam wasn't interested in his gratitude because she hoped that Tracy's plan worked. A.J. spotted a picture of his brother, Jason, and picked it up. Sam ordered A.J. not to touch her things or to make any attempt at small talk with her, because they weren't friends. A.J. reminded her that they were family, but Sam made it clear that A.J. and Jason had been brothers in name only. Sam insisted that Jason had never forgiven A.J. for what A.J. had done to Michael, so she was certain that Jason wouldn't approve of the way that A.J. had manipulated Michael.
Sam admitted that she would call the cops herself if it weren't for Michael, because A.J. was using Michael the same way that A.J. had used Jason when the brothers were growing up. Sam believed that he would turn himself over to the police if he truly cared for Michael. A.J. assured Sam that she didn't have to worry because he would probably end up in jail soon. Sam refused to feel sorry for A.J. A.J. admitted that he had done enough of that himself, so he didn't expect her to.
Sam was startled when A.J suggested that they had something in common. A.J. knew that Jason had fiercely and loyally loved Sam, so Jason would have forgiven her for anything. A.J. admitted that Jason had loved him the same way before the accident. However, after the crash, Jason had barely been able to look at him. Sam resented A.J. pretending he gave a "damn." A.J. confessed that he had returned to Port Charles to see his son and to make amends, so he hated that he had missed the opportunity to make peace with Jason.
Sam insisted that Jason would return to her and their son. A.J. was surprised that Jason and Sam had a son. Sam revealed that the baby's name was Danny, so A.J. asked if he could see the baby. "Why, so you can kidnap him?" Sam asked. A.J. didn't blame Sam for doubting him, but he promised her that he was a changed man. He vowed to tell his brother how sorry he was for everything when Jason returned.
Sam appeared to soften as A.J. conceded that they both knew that he didn't have a lot of time before he went back to jail, so he desperately wanted to see his nephew. Sam fetched Danny and then introduced her son to A.J. A.J. smiled when she revealed that the baby's name was Daniel Edward. A.J. admitted that Danny was a beautiful child, so he imagined that Jason had been very proud. Sam stiffened and carefully replied that she and Danny had had a rough time in the beginning. However, they intended to wait for Jason to return.
A.J. vowed to wait for his brother's return too. Sam asked A.J. to stop "doing that." A.J. insisted that he hoped that his brother was alive. A.J. realized that he didn't have the right to ask, but he wondered if it would be okay for him to hold his nephew for a minute.
A.J. explained that he hadn't had a lot of time with Michael when Michael had been a child, so it would mean a lot to him to hold his brother's son. Sam appeared on the verge of agreeing, but Dante suddenly pounded on the door and announced that he knew that A.J. was there.
A short time later, A.J. was handcuffed. A.J. wondered if it was necessary to be handcuffed, but Dante insisted that it was department policy. Before Dante hauled A.J. away, A.J. told Sam that she and Danny would always have a friend in him.
11/20 At Sam's penthouse, Sam was glad to see John when he stopped by for a visit. She confided that a lot had happened since she had last seen him, and then revealed that they had been wrong about Jerry Jacks being responsible for Jason's shooting and disappearance.
Sam explained that she had started to review the manifests of all of the commercial vessels that had recently shipped out of the harbor to see if there might be anyone who had a connection to Jason. John gently advised Sam to slow down a little, but Sam insisted that Jason was shot and needed her. John argued that she didn't know that, so he urged her to take a step back to gain some perspective.
Sam reminded John that he had agreed that Jason was not dead because they hadn't found a body. John didn't dispute it but he explained that there was a difference between following logical clues and driving oneself crazy. Sam's temper flared because she had thought that John had been on her side. John assured her that he was. John suggested that Sam take some time off by spending a few hours in the park with Danny to get some fresh air, but Sam resented John trying to stand in for Jason. John promised her that he wasn't trying to do that, but Sam didn't believe him.
Sam felt bad that John couldn't be with Liam, but she made it clear that he couldn't "borrow" Danny. She doubted that Jason would approve. John was a little surprised by Sam's suggestion that he wanted to substitute his son with Danny, so he decided to leave. Sam insisted that she was throwing him out, so she advised him to concentrate on his own family and leave hers alone.
Michael, Sam, and Danny arrived at the Q’s. Tracy brushed past them without acknowledging them, while Monica smiled warmly in greeting. Monica assured them that Edward could hear them and then left the room.
Michael sat down and took his great-grandfather's hand. Michael conceded that they hadn't always been close, but Michael had always admired Edward because he knew that everything that Edward had ever done had been out of love for his family. Michael was deeply touched that Edward had always made Michael feel like a part of the family, even though Michael didn't bear Edward's last name or work at ELQ.
"I love you, and I'll never forget you," Michael vowed. Sam sat down in the seat that Michael had vacated. She introduced Edward to his great-grandson, Daniel Edward. Monica returned as Sam revealed that Daniel was Jason's biological son. Monica's eyes filled with tears as Edward's hand reached out and Danny grasped his great-grandfather's finger.
11/26 Sam, baby Danny, Kristina, and Molly remained in the chapel after Edward's memorial service. Kristina and Molly fretted privately about Sam and her inability to accept that Jason was dead. They invited her to dinner so that they could spoil Danny. Sam accepted the invitation to the lake house. Maxie and Lulu greeted Sam, and Lulu told Sam that she might soon be asking parenting advice.
Spinelli entered the chapel and tried to talk to Maxie, but she abruptly told Spinelli that he no longer had the right to call her "Maximista," and then dashed out of the church with Lulu. Sam asked Spinelli what was going on. Spinelli spilled his guts to Sam. He told her that Maxie had declared her love for him, but that Maxie had not done so until after he had gotten involved with Ellie.
Sam asked Spinelli what he would do about Maxie's declaration if he did not have a girlfriend. Spinelli answered that the point was moot because he did have a girlfriend. Spinelli changed the subject and said that he was ready to go back to work on helping Sam find Jason. Spinelli asked if John McBain had found any clues. Sam said that John did not believe that Jason was still alive. Sam wanted to know what Spinelli thought about Jason's plight.
Spinelli was diplomatic as he told Sam that he did not have her unwavering faith. He said that he wanted to believe, but logic got in his way. Sam said that Spinelli of all people should have faith because of what had just happened with Maxie. Even though he had given up hope, Maxie had finally said that she loved him. Ellie walked in as Spinelli said that it was too late.
Ellie though that Spinelli was referring to the fact that she was late to the funeral. Spinelli introduced Sam to Ellie and explained the part that Ellie had played in determining that Danny was actually Sam's son. After Spinelli and Ellie left to get lunch, Sam lit a candle and told Danny that she was not ready to give up on Jason.
12/4 In the Quartermaine mansion's parlor, Tracy set a big stuffed teddy bear on a chair as A.J. entered. He noticed the tea and snacks, so he was curious who the tea party was for. Tracy snidely informed him that he wasn't invited. A.J. let it drop when he had received a call from Diane, so he excused himself and left. A short time later, Tracy greeted Sam and Danny at the door. Sam was curious why Tracy had called her, so Tracy innocently reminded her that they were family.
Tracy invited Sam and Danny into the parlor for tea, scones with clotted cream, cucumber sandwiches, and Pickle-Lila relish. Tracy assured Sam that the famous relish tasted wonderful with everything. After Sam settled Danny down, Tracy tried to give Danny the teddy bear. Sam wasn't fooled, so she was curious what Tracy was really up to. A.J. entered in time to explain that Tracy wanted Sam's 18% of the ELQ shares.
A.J. outlined Tracy's precarious situation with the company, so Sam reminded them that Jason had also inherited Alan's shares of ELQ. Tracy revealed that Edward had had controlling interest at the time of his passing and that the company's charter had been written, so all the other shares were subordinate to Edward's shares. Tracy assured Sam that the shares that Jason had inherited from Alan yielded impressive dividends, but didn't have much voting power. Sam wondered what any of that had to do with her, so A.J. explained that Tracy needed the majority of the shares on her side to prevent being replaced as CEO.
Tracy was curious who would want a change in leadership, while the economy was so precarious, especially since it might jeopardize the company's stock value. "41-percent," A.J. replied. Tracy's eyes narrowed because she realized that A.J. and Skye had been conspiring to oust Tracy. A.J. reminded Sam of how poorly Tracy had always treated Sam and Jason, so firing Tracy might be satisfying payback for Sam.
Tracy wondered why A.J. even cared, since he was likely to spend the rest of his life in prison. Sam conceded that A.J. had a point, but Tracy doubted that Sam would actually vote against her. "Wouldn't I?" Sam asked. Tracy argued that ELQ was a Quartermaine legacy, but Sam reminded Tracy that Tracy had always made it clear that Sam wasn't part of the family. Meanwhile, A.J. recalled that his brother had never been interested in the family's infighting. Tracy warned Sam not to listen to or trust A.J. because everyone who had done so had lived to regret it.
After Tracy stormed out, A.J. complimented Sam on how Sam had handled Tracy. Sam admitted that Tracy had always been awful to her, so it had been fun, but Sam wasn't certain if she would actually vote Tracy out, since Tracy had been doing a good job. A.J. warned Sam not to believe everything that Tracy had said because he knew for certain that Tracy had done some questionable things at ELQ. Sam doubted that Tracy had done any worse than A.J. "Fair enough," A.J. admitted.
Sam was about to leave, but A.J. invited her to stay, since Tracy had gone to the trouble of arranging tea, scones, and sandwiches. Sam noticed that Danny was asleep, so she decided not to disturb her son. Sam sat down on the sofa, so A.J. joined her. Sam thanked A.J. for calling her to let her know about Edward because it had given Danny an opportunity to see Edward. A.J. regretted that he hadn't had a chance to prove to Edward that he could do things right and make his grandfather proud. Sam believed A.J.
Meanwhile, John arrived to question Tracy about Joe Scully. He revealed that he was there on official business because he worked for the police department. Tracy insisted that she only knew of Joe's connection to Jerry Jacks, no one else. Moments later, A.J. and Sam left the parlor. Sam thanked A.J. for the tea, so Tracy dragged her nephew back in the parlor to accuse him of plying Sam with Tracy's scones and tea to work Sam for Sam's 18% of the ELQ shares. A.J. reminded Tracy that he was headed to jail, so Tracy didn't have anything to worry about.
In the foyer, Sam apologized to John for yelling at him the other day and accusing him of using Danny as a replacement. John admitted that she had been right to a certain degree, but he assured her that he had taken steps to get his life back on track by taking a job with the police department. Sam was shocked when John revealed that he was investigating Jason's shooting.
12/12 At the penthouse, Sam left a message for John, explaining that she had called for an update about Jason's case. Moments later, the doorbell rang. It was Alexis and Kristina who each sported a Santa hat and carried bags of Christmas decorations. Sam insisted that she was not in the holiday spirit, but Alexis and Kristina ignored her. Kristina sprinted for the door when the doorbell rang, so Alexis confessed that she had ordered a tree.
Sam was not happy about the tree, but Alexis refused to apologize for making sure that her grandson had a tree for his first Christmas. Sam's sour mood immediately evaporated. Meanwhile, at the door, Kristina was surprised that Trey had delivered the tree. Trey reminded her that he continued to do volunteer work for the church in exchange for a room. After Trey set up the tree, he invited Kristina out for some hot chocolate. Kristina agreed, so Alexis sat down on the sofa to find out what Sam had been working on.
Sam's avoidance told Alexis that the case was about Jason. Sam revealed that the police department had hired John, so the case had been assigned to him. Alexis admitted that she had bumped into John, but she pointed out that there was a difference between investigating who had shot Jason and finding Jason. Sam admitted that she had felt bad for lashing out at John, and that she knew that everyone else had given up on Jason.
However, Sam had faith that Jason was alive. Alexis was disappointed with Sam's continued denial, but Sam pointed out that Christmas was all about faith. Later, Alexis surprised Sam by returning to the living room with Danny, whom Alexis had dressed in a Santa suit. Sam laughed, which made Alexis smile because it had been so long since she had seen Sam like that. Alexis and Sam decorated the tree. Afterwards, Sam added two more ornaments: the dragon and the phoenix, which she and Jason had given to each other the previous Christmas.
Meanwhile, the doorbell rang, so Alexis answered it. It was Molly. Molly asked Alexis to sue Connie on Molly's behalf.
12/21 At the penthouse, Sam showed Daniel the special ornaments hanging on their Christmas tree. She explained that the phoenix represented her, the dragon represented Danny's father, and the third ornament represented Danny because he was born in the year of the dragon. Sam was certain that Jason would be happy that they were all together on the tree and then suggested that perhaps they might get a Christmas miracle with Jason's return. She jumped when someone knocked on the door.
Sam prayed the whole time she walked there for Jason to be standing on the other side of the door, but it was Tracy sporting a Santa hat and bearing gifts. Sam saw through Tracy's attempt to lavish her with expensive gifts. Tracy was curious if Sam hated Tracy or A.J. more and then quickly reminded Sam about all of the terrible things that A.J. had done to Jason's loved ones and Jason.
Tracy insisted that ELQ was Danny's legacy, and then warned her that A.J. would run it into the ground. Sam assured Tracy that Danny would be fine without ELQ. Tracy pointed out that ELQ was also Michael's legacy and that Michael was susceptible to A.J.'s manipulations because Michael wanted to have a relationship with his biological father.
Tracy thought that the speed with which A.J. was turning Michael against Cary and Sonny was staggering. Tracy insisted that it was up to them to protect Michael, but Sam doubted that Tracy would care if it didn't somehow benefit Tracy. Tracy didn't understand why that meant that Tracy herself should stay neutral.
Tracy whipped out a proxy that she asked Sam to sign. Tracy explained that the proxy would only give Tracy temporary control of the Sam's eighteen shares, but that Sam could regain control of them at any time. She handed Sam the pen, but Sam was reluctant to sign the document without reading it. Moments later, someone knocked on the door. Tracy jumped up to answer the door as she urged Sam to sign the papers.
Tracy was furious when she saw A.J. and Michael standing on the doorstep. She immediately slammed the door in their faces, but Sam ordered Tracy to let them in. Tracy reluctantly stepped aside as A.J. and Michael entered the penthouse. A.J. complained that Tracy had broken his toe, so Tracy suggested that he use his head the next time. Sam made it clear that Michael was always welcome in her home.
A.J.'s eyes narrowed when he spotted the proxy. He begged Sam not to sign it because he wanted the chance to redeem himself. A.J. believed that he owed it to his grandfather, father, and brother. Tracy pointed out that A.J. had tried to kill two of the three people that he had just mentioned and then accused A.J. of manipulating Michael. A.J. insisted that he had a right to have a relationship with his son, but Tracy argued that Sonny and Jason had been Michael's fathers. Tracy snidely added that Michael had been better off being raised by a mobster and a hit man than by A.J.
A.J. reminded Tracy that at least his son talked to him. A.J. was curious when Tracy had last talked to Dillon. The bickering continued until Sam warned A.J. and Tracy that she would not tolerate their behavior in her home. Sam informed everyone that she had made a decision, so she went upstairs to sign the proxy, while Michael held Danny.
A short time later, Sam returned to the living room with two pieces of paper. She had decided to give A.J. and Tracy nine shares each. A.J. and Tracy pointed out that they would remain deadlocked, so Sam advised them to find someone who could break the tie.
12/28 At Manning Enterprises, Todd entered his office and saw Sam trying to break into his safe. "Some things never change," Todd told Sam as he made his way to the phone to call for security. Sam refused to apologize because she had been looking for her sister's stolen manuscript.
Todd assured Sam that he would never steal a child's manuscript, and if he had, he wouldn't be foolish enough to leave it in his safe. Moments later, Carly, accompanied by two security guards, entered Todd's office. Carly had heard that there had been a burglary in progress. Todd demanded that Sam be arrested for trying to break into his safe. Carly asked Sam if Todd's claims were true, so Sam explained that she had been trying to recover stolen property. Sam revealed that Todd was publishing Molly's book under Connie's name.
Carly was curious if Sam had actually taken anything, so Todd admitted that he had caught Sam before she had managed to open the safe. Carly dismissed the security guards and asked for Todd's side of the story. Todd explained that Starr and Molly had dropped off a "sappy teenage" manuscript, but it had disappeared. According to Todd, it had happened around the same time Connie had announced that she had written a book. Todd admitted that he had never read Molly's manuscript, so he had no way of knowing if Connie had stolen Molly's manuscript.
Todd wanted to know if Carly intended to call John McBain to arrest Sam or if he should. Carly reminded Todd that Sam had just been reunited with Danny, so it wouldn't be right to keep mother and child separated for even one more day. Sam doubted that Todd cared, since he hadn't had any qualms about keeping Danny away from her for the first six months of Danny's life. "What's another night?" Sam asked. Todd conceded that Sam had had a bad year, so he agreed to let the matter drop, but he wanted Sam to leave him alone.
Sam accused Todd of stealing Danny and giving the infant to his ex-wife, but Carly defended Todd by reminding Sam that the police had determined that Heather had been responsible for the baby switch. Sam wondered if Carly was truly that stupid. Todd warned Sam that Carly was he only reason that Sam wasn't sitting in the back of a squad car. Sam argued that Carly had only spoken up for Sam because it was what Jason would have wanted. Sam warned Carly that Todd was not Carly's friend.
Carly couldn't understand why Sam refused to believe that Heather had lied to Todd the same way that Heather had lied to everyone else and had changed the results of Danny's paternity test. Sam didn't dispute that Heather was evil, but she insisted that Todd was just as bad. Sam was frustrated that Carly defended the man who had stolen Jason's son and had denied Jason precious time with Danny. Carly was adamant that Todd was innocent because Carly had questioned Todd about his role in the baby switch, and he had sworn on his daughter's life that he hadn't switched the babies.
Sam couldn't imagine anything worse than swearing on one's child's life when they were lying. Sam was certain that a person who did that would go to Hell. Sam decided to leave, but she warned Todd that she intended to find out what had happened to Molly's missing manuscript because she refused to let him get away with hurting another innocent child. Sam urged Carly to be careful and suggested that Carly to trust her own instincts.
1/8 At the penthouse, Sam left Spinelli a voicemail message requesting that he call her back immediately. She explained that the holidays were over, so it was time for them to get back to work looking for Jason. Sam ended the call just as someone knocked on the door. Sam deposited a large box on the desk and then opened the door. It was Carly. Carly had stopped by to tell Sam that Sam had been right about Todd.
Carly spotted the box on the desk as she entered the penthouse, so she asked Sam about it. Sam insisted that it was confidential, so Carly let the matter drop and blurted out that Todd had switched Sam's son with Téa's infant. Sam's anger mounted as Carly revealed that Johnny had confessed to causing the accident that had killed Starr's daughter and fiancé, so he had decided to take Todd down by revealing that two of his thugs had seen Todd switch the babies. Sam grabbed a jacket as she asked Carly to watch Danny; Sam intended to track Todd down to strangle him. Carly explained that Todd was in lockup with Johnny.
Sam was ready to head to the police station, but she changed her mind when Carly began to cry about Todd's betrayal. Carly confided that she had only learned the truth a few short hours after she had made the worst mistake of her life. Sam realized that Carly had slept with Todd. Carly conceded that Todd had warned her that he was a horrible person, but Carly had thought that she could trust Todd. Carly admitted that Sam had been right; Todd had made a fool of Carly.
Carly realized that she had no one to blame except herself. Carly had taken Johnny back after she had found him in bed with Connie, so it had been her own fault that Johnny had humiliated her when he and Connie had announced that they were married at Kate and Sonny's wedding. Carly had gotten through the heartbreak by leaning on her friend, Todd. Carly recalled that people had lined up for blocks to warn her about Todd, but she had been certain that she and Todd were kindred spirits. Sam pointed out that it had been a huge mistake on Carly's part.
"You know, you can be a real bitch sometimes," Carly complained. "It takes one to know one," Sam replied. Carly hated that she always gravitated towards men who were bad for her, so Sam reminded Carly of Jax. Carly explained that Jax hadn't been able to accept Carly's choices, so the only good man who had ever truly accepted Carly had been Jason, but he was gone. Sam angrily argued that Jason might not be there, but she insisted that Jason was not gone. Carly explained to Sam that it was time for them both to accept that Jason was dead.
Sam's anger flared as she made it clear that she would not stop searching for her husband, but Carly insisted that Jason would not return home because had been shot and tossed into the water. Sam argued that the man who had shot Jason might have him, but Carly believed that Jason had drowned.
Sam pointed out that they had never recovered his body, but Carly told Sam that Jason would want them to accept that Jason was dead. Sam was sorry that Johnny and Todd had "screwed" Carly over, but Sam insisted that it didn't give Carly the right to take it out on Sam.
Carly denied that she was doing that, but Jason had always called Carly out when Carly had lied to herself.
"You're lying to yourself; Jason is gone," Carly gently told Sam. Carly insisted that Sam had to accept that for Sam's sake as well as Danny's. Sam ordered Carly to leave, so Carly left. Afterwards, Sam picked up a picture of Jason and Danny as she begged for a sign from Jason. Moments later, someone knocked on the door.
1/9 At the penthouse, Sam clutched the picture of Jason close to her chest as she tearfully begged him for a sign. Moments later, John McBain knocked on the door. Sam wiped her tears away as she admitted that she was surprised to see John, since he hadn't been around in a while. John explained that he had been in Switzerland, working on a case involving Cesar Faison. John quickly filled her in about Faison's attempt to pass himself off as Duke Lavery and then revealed that Faison was in custody. Sam admitted that she had hoped that John would have information about Jason.
John admitted that he had made some progress on Jason's case. John told Sam that Joe Scully had been in cahoots with Faison to steal Sonny's fortune. Sam's eyes filled with tears as John revealed that Faison had shot Jason point-blank in the back when Jason had gone to the docks to meet Bernie. Sam refused to believe that her husband had been killed, so John gently explained that Jason had staggered a few steps and then collapsed. According to John, Faison had kicked Jason's body into the harbor. "If the bullet didn't kill him, the water did," John added.
Sam argued that Jason was a strong swimmer, but John insisted that Faison had watched Jason's body sink. Sam suggested that Faison could have lied, but John pointed out that Faison faced life in prison, so Faison wouldn't have hesitated to cut a deal with the authorities if Jason had been alive. Sam refused to believe that Jason was dead because they hadn't found Jason's body. John thought perhaps Jason's body had been swept out to sea by the current or had been pinned to the bottom of the harbor. However, John knew for certain that Jason hadn't made it to shore. "I'm sorry, Jason's gone," John said.
Sam cried that Jason had had too much to live for. She told him about Carly's visit and Sam's plea for Jason to give her a sign just before John's arrival. Sam admitted that she had believed with every fiber of her being that Jason would return, but she realized that she couldn't do that anymore. John felt terrible for Sam, but she insisted that she had needed to know the truth. Sam wept inconsolably as she finally accepted that Jason was gone, so John held her.
1/14 Sam was talking with baby Danny at Kelly's and showing him pictures of Jason when John McBain walked in. She told him that she accepted Jason's death and wanted to plan a memorial. She said that she was waiting for Alexis to help her plan the service. John said that he was sorry for what Sam was going through. He told Sam about seeing Todd and about Todd's attempt to bribe him by helping John get Natalie and Liam back. When Sam asked if John had been tempted, John replied that throwing in with Todd was not an option no matter what the offer.
Monica walked in and was delighted to see Sam and Danny. She complimented Sam on what a good job Sam was doing with Danny. John prepared to leave, but Sam asked him to tell Monica what he had learned about Faison and the almost certainty of Jason's death. After hearing John's account, Monica wondered how Faison could still be breathing. John said that Faison would spend the rest of his life in prison.
Sam apologized for telling Monica about Jason so abruptly. Monica said that she had sensed that Jason was gone, but had held on to a sliver of hope because Sam had. Sam asked Monica to help with the memorial and Monica agreed. As they looked through pictures of Jason, Monica said that laying Jason to rest was a good idea. She added that Jason would want Sam to find peace and start living again.
Monica said that she had gotten through the days after Alan's death and that Sam would get through the days after Jason, too. Before Monica left, she told Sam that with the help of family and friends, they would find a way to work through their grief. After Monica was gone, John knelt beside Sam and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. **The End** |
