Jason & Sam #33 June 8 - August 27, 2012: 8 hour original edit
DVD #33A John asked Jason how Sam was doing, and Jason replied that Sam hadn't yet accepted her baby's death. He explained that Sam had wandered into a shed in the woods off the road after the storm had let up and collapsed. When she had regained consciousness, she told Jason that the baby he'd found in the planter box was not hers.
John and Jason both assumed Sam's emotional state had clouded her judgment. Jason let John know that Sam had finally accepted that her son had died. John blamed himself for not having taken Sam to the hospital right away, instead of helping her deliver the boy at their motel. Jason thanked John for having helped Sam. "But I'll take it from here," Jason finished. At that moment, two uniformed officers arrived and said that the new commissioner wanted to question him.
Sam ran into Téa in the hallway outside Sam's room. Téa asked about Sam's baby, and Sam explained that he'd died just after he was born. Téa told her how sorry she was. Sam began to ask if she could hold Téa's son but thought better of it. Téa was not put off by Sam's gesture, but Alexis and Dr. Lee showed up before Sam had a chance to get close to the infant.
Alexis and Dr. Lee ushered Sam back to her bed and the doctor explained that Sam's baby had died of respiratory failure. But something didn't add up, Dr. Lee said. The newborn had not tested positive for beta thalassemia, of which Sam was a carrier. The child, however, did have hemophilia.
Dr. Lee asked if there was a history of hemophilia in the Cassadine family, but Alexis didn't believe there was. Sam wondered if she'd been right the night before, that there had been a mistake, and that the baby who died was not her son. Dr. Lee said that it was possible the tests done during pregnancy hadn't caught the hemophilia.
Sam asked whether her son would have survived had he been taken to the hospital earlier. Dr. Lee couldn't say for sure, only that he'd have had a chance. Dr. Lee left as John arrived to check on Sam. Sam asked Alexis to leave so that she could speak with John alone. Alexis exited.
Sam asked John why he'd never returned after he'd left to get the car. He said he'd run into some trouble that night. A nurse arrived with food, and John left. The nurse let it slip that John had been beaten the night before.
Outside the interrogation room, the cops delivered Jason to Anna. "I have nothing to say without my attorney," Jason protested. Anna told him he only had to listen to what she had to say. She shared with him that Robin had loved him very much. Anna was grateful for everything Jason had done for Robin before she died.
Having said that, Anna told Jason she could not disregard his criminal activities. "I know what you did to McBain last night," she revealed. Because there wasn't any evidence tying Jason to the assault, and because John wouldn't press charges, she couldn't do anything about it. But she would not hesitate to go after him in the future.
Later, Jason went back to see Sam. She said she wanted to ask him a question, but Jason wanted to tell her something first. Sam had been right; it hadn't mattered that Sam's baby had not been his biological son, Jason would have loved the boy and raised him as his son.
Heather introduced herself to Todd. She held the baby switch over Todd's head. Todd defended his actions, though he expressed regret for having taken Heather's advice to keep the truth quiet from Téa before she'd bonded with Sam's son. Heather made thinly veiled threats to tell someone what had happened, but Todd threatened to make sure the authorities knew that she'd buried Anthony's body the night of the baby switch.
Heather emerged from the elevator, and Téa thanked her for having saved little Victor's life. Heather made it seem as if she was going to tell Téa that her son had died. Just as Todd really began to sweat, Heather let him off the hook, pretending that she was concerned about her privacy. "I don't like people knowing my business good or bad," Heather said. She wanted to ensure her name stayed out of the Sun. Téa assured Heather that Todd would not publicly thank her.
After Téa and Todd left, Heather produced a General Hospital Lab envelope from her purse. She dropped it, but John picked it up and handed it to her as he walked by. After he left, Heather chuckled to herself about how easy it was for her to get away with all of her schemes. She looked at the contents of the envelope, a DNA report that showed Jason as the father of Sam's baby.
6/11 At General Hospital, Heather sat down and gloated over the stolen lab results that proved Jason, not Franco, was the father of Sam's baby. Heather flashed back and saw herself passing the lab as a technician stood outside the lab and called Kelly to tell her that the results of Sam's paternity tests were ready and waiting in an envelope for her inside the lab.
When the technician left, Heather had entered the lab, found the results showing Jason as the father, altered the results in the computer, reprinted them, and put them in the envelope for Kelly to find and give to Sam. Heather rationalized what she had done by blaming Sam for not delivering a letter to Steve as Sam had promised Heather she would do.
Heather further convinced herself that she was doing the right thing because a mother would do anything to protect her child, and Heather believed that she was protecting Steve from Sam so that Sam could not tell Steve that Heather had sold Jason's twin, Franco, just as Heather had sold Steve. Heather told herself that Sam had gotten what she deserved because she had tried to wreck Heather's shot at happiness with her son, Steve.
In another room on the same floor, Jason told Sam that he had gone looking for her because he had wanted to tell her that he could accept the baby, love it, and be its father. Sam thought Jason's answer was pretty convenient under the circumstances. Jason assured Sam that he had gone to the motel to try to save their marriage. Sam accused Jason of beating McBain or of having him beaten. Jason acknowledged that he had sent the men after McBain.
Jason said that he had tried to call off the attack, but he had been too late. Sam responded that it had been too late for John and too late for her baby. Sam told Jason that her baby had died of respiratory failure. Sam said that if John had returned and taken her baby to the hospital, then the baby would be alive and in her arms. Sam said that at first she had thought it was John's fault that the baby had died; however, she said it was not John's fault, but Jason's fault that her baby was dead.
Jason said that he had not had any idea that Sam was in labor when he sent his men to beat up John McBain. Jason said that he was sorry for everything that Sam had been through. Sam said that she did not think that Jason was really sorry. Sam said that she was the one who had been raped, and in the end, she did not care how her baby had been conceived. All she had cared about was that she would be a mother. Sam accused Jason of wanting her to give the baby away. Sam told Jason that her baby was dead, and he had gotten exactly what he had wanted, the baby was gone.
Jason tried to take Sam's hand, but she would not let him. Jason told Sam that he had been there when she had lost her daughter and he would never wish that on her again. Jason said that he had grown to want the baby, too, but Sam did not believe him. Sam told Jason that what they had was broken. Jason repeated that he was sorry. Sam said that "sorry" would not fix anything. Sam said that her baby was dead, and nothing could bring him back.
Heather lurked outside and overheard their conversation and thought to herself that people looked for something to hold onto. She said that it was too bad that Jason and Sam would never know that their baby was alive and well and living in Llanview, Pennsylvania.
Back in Sam's room, Jason tried to take her hand, but Sam refused to let him and told Jason to get out. Jason put the dragon figurine on the tray by Sam's bed and left.
Elizabeth ran into Jason, who told her that Sam had lost the baby and he had lost Sam.
Heather found Steve and said that she wished that there were something she could do for Sam. Steve took Heather to Sam's room and said that Heather wanted to offer condolences. Heather looked at Sam and said that she was sorry for Sam's loss. Heather said that she hoped that Sam would be comforted by the knowledge that Sam's baby was in a better place.
6/12 At the penthouse, Jason entered the living room. His eyes landed on the phoenix figurine perched on the fireplace mantel. Moments later, Carly knocked. Jason opened the door. Carly was upset because he hadn't returned any of her calls, so Jason admitted that he hadn't been in the mood to talk. Carly was surprised when he revealed that Sam had had the baby.
"We're over," Jason added, and then revealed that Sam's son had died. Carly was shocked, as Jason revealed the details of Sam's effort to get help for the newborn baby and the baby's death from respiratory failure. Carly was certain that Jason had been as devastated as Sam by the loss. She insisted that Jason and Sam needed each other, but Jason explained that Sam didn't want to see him, because Sam blamed him for the baby's death.
Jason confessed that he had arranged for two men to rough up John, which had kept John from returning to the motel room. Carly argued that Jason couldn't have known what would happen. Jason admitted that Carly had been right when she had assured him that he would be able love the baby once he had held it. Carly insisted that the baby's death had been a terrible tragedy, but it hadn't been Jason's fault.
Jason revealed that Sam had accused him of setting everything into motion by sending the men after John. Carly suggested that Sam had been the one to set things into motion by moving out, and then leaving the motel with a newborn. According to Carly, everyone had made mistakes, but Jason was not responsible for the baby's death.
Jason doubted that Sam would ever forgive him, but Carly disagreed. She conceded that Sam would never forget, but Sam would eventually be able to forgive Jason. Carly was certain that Jason and Sam could work things out, but Jason explained that Sam had accused him of saying that he loved the baby only because the baby had died. Carly urged Jason to keep fighting for Sam until Sam believed him. She then told him how she had forgiven Johnny.
Jason warned Carly that Johnny had better treat Carly right. Carly assured Jason that Johnny had been put on notice. Moments later, Carly received a text message from work. Jason urged her to go, because he needed time to think. Carly insisted that Sam needed him, whether Sam admitted it or not, so he should go to Sam.
Sam was looking at the dragon figurine when Elizabeth knocked on Sam's hospital room door. Elizabeth carried in a bouquet of flowers, which she set on the nightstand next to Sam's bed. Sam read the card that Alexis had sent with the flowers. Elizabeth expressed her condolences. Elizabeth knew that losing a child was the worst feeling imaginable, so she wondered if there was anything that she could do for Sam.
"Can you bring me my baby back? Can you keep him breathing, keep him alive?" Sam coldly asked. Elizabeth didn't reply, so Sam added, "No, I didn't think so." Elizabeth recalled how it had felt when people had asked her the same thing after Jake had died, so she apologized. Elizabeth conceded that there wasn't anything that anyone could do to take the pain away, but Elizabeth assured Sam that, if it had been in Elizabeth's power, she would give Sam the baby back.
"Yeah, you and everyone else. Bottom line, you can't," Sam groused. Elizabeth confided that she had seen Jason, and that he had been "destroyed" by the baby's death. Sam was unmoved. Elizabeth suggested that Jason and Sam talk, because she was certain that it would help Jason and Sam. Elizabeth insisted that Sam shouldn't have to go through the loss alone.
Elizabeth realized that it wasn't her place, but before she could finish the thought, Sam cut Elizabeth off. "You know, you're right, it's not your place," Sam snapped. Elizabeth assured Sam that Jason had seemed genuinely upset about the baby's death, but that only infuriated Sam.
Elizabeth realized that she was not helping Sam, but Sam disagreed. Sam needed to express how she was feeling. Sam explained that she and the baby had needed Jason's love from the start, not after the baby had "conveniently died." Elizabeth flinched at the harsh choice of words. "What? Am I making you uncomfortable right now?" Sam asked. "God forbid if I make anyone uncomfortable, especially Jason," Sam shouted.
Sam resented that she had to tiptoe around Jason's feelings, instead of telling him how scared and hurt she had felt. Sam insisted that it had been a knife through her heart when Jason had told her that the baby would be a reminder of Franco. Elizabeth admitted that Jason had felt that way in the beginning; however, he no longer felt that way.
Elizabeth believed Jason was sincere, but Sam didn't. Sam wondered if Jason had told Elizabeth about the men that Jason had sent after John, and how John had been prevented from returning to the motel room to help Sam and the baby. Sam insisted that her baby might have been saved if they had been able to get the baby to the hospital, but Elizabeth reminded Sam that they had no way of knowing that for certain.
Sam was furious that Elizabeth was defending Jason, but Elizabeth explained that Jason was a mess. Sam invited Elizabeth to comfort Jason, because Sam wanted nothing to do with Jason. "He's all yours," Sam told Elizabeth. Elizabeth insisted that she and Jason were just friends and that Jason loved Sam. Elizabeth agreed that Jason wasn't perfect, and she acknowledged that he had made a lot of mistakes with Sam. Sam didn't care, because she was through with Jason. Elizabeth wondered, if that were true, why Sam was still holding the dragon figurine.
Later, Jason entered Sam's hospital room. He saw Elizabeth, but not Sam. Elizabeth revealed that Sam had checked herself out and left.
6/13 At the Rendezvous Motel, Sam pulled her room key out of her pocket, along with the dragon figurine. She was staring at the figurine when John suddenly called out to her. John was surprised that Sam had been released from the hospital, so Sam told him that there hadn't been a reason for her to stay, since she didn't have a baby waiting for her.
Sam suddenly began to sway on her feet, so John lunged forward to catch her before she fell. John quickly helped her into her motel room. After Sam sat down, she asked how John's cracked ribs were doing. John tried to play down his injury, but Sam refused to let him. She informed him that she would never forgive Jason for what Jason had done.
John reminded Sam that Jason couldn't have known what would happen, but Sam didn't want John to excuse Jason's behavior. She insisted that Jason should have supported her and the baby from the beginning, not when it was too late. Sam changed the subject by thanking John for all that he had done for her during her labor and delivery. She confessed that she couldn't stop thinking about how perfect it had felt to hold her son.
John was surprised when Sam revealed that she was there to pick up her things, because she intended to move in with her mother. John realized that it was goodbye. Sam pointed out that she wasn't leaving town, so he didn't have to be so melodramatic. John revealed that he was headed home to Natalie and Liam. Sam was curious what John had been in Port Charles, so John told her about his sister, Theresa, and Theresa's involvement with Sonny, which had led to his sister's death. Sam felt terrible for John.
John vowed to make Sonny answer for Theresa's death. Sam appreciated that John wanted justice for his sister, but John explained that it would have to wait, because his investigative warrant had expired. Sam realized that it really was goodbye. She reminded him that they had never figured out why they had seemed so familiar to each other. "Maybe some day," John suggested.
"Yea, maybe in a random place, at some random time. That's how these things happen, right? A coincidence that doesn't really feel like a coincidence," Sam replied. John hoped that Sam found what she was looking for, because she deserved to be happy. Sam walked John to the door, and then hugged him. After John left, Sam packed her things, looked at the dragon figurine one last time, set it on the table, and then left.
At the Floating Rib bar, Jason handed Elizabeth a beer, as he confessed that he was still trying to get used to the bar's new name. Elizabeth explained that Luke didn't think that a bar bearing Jake's name was the best way to honor Jake. Elizabeth confessed that she hadn't realized how difficult it had been to see Jake's name every day on her way to work until the sign had been changed. Jason was happy that Luke had eased some of Elizabeth's pain.
Jason wished that he could help Sam. Elizabeth admitted that sometimes a person couldn't be comforted. Jason explained that Sam blamed him for the baby's death, because Jason had sent some men after John. Elizabeth pointed out that Jason couldn't have known what would happen. She explained that there were no guarantees with respiratory failure, so the baby might not have survived, even if Sam had gotten the infant to the hospital.
Jason wasn't comforted, because he still felt responsible for what had happened. Elizabeth insisted that people didn't always think straight when they feared that the one that they loved was slipping away. She reminded him that Sam had once been so desperate to hold onto Jason that Sam had stood by while Jake had been kidnapped.
Jason assured Elizabeth that Sam would always regret that. "And you will always regret this," Elizabeth replied. Elizabeth explained that Sam was not in her right mind. She started to tell Jason about what Sam had told her, but then stopped. Jason wanted to know what Elizabeth had been about to say, but Elizabeth insisted that it didn't matter. Jason pushed until she revealed that Sam had told Elizabeth that Elizabeth could have Jason, because Sam was through with him.
Elizabeth assured Jason that Sam hadn't meant it, but Jason had his doubts. He revealed that Sam had thrown Jason's friendship with Elizabeth in his face when Sam had found out that Elizabeth had bailed Jason out of jail. Elizabeth wondered if Jason had explained to Sam that he had been trying to spare Sam unnecessary stress. Jason insisted that it didn't matter. He stood up, because he didn't want to talk about it anymore.
Jason and Elizabeth decided to play a game of pool. Jason asked about Ewen, so Elizabeth told him that she had a date with Ewen the following evening. Elizabeth confessed that she liked Ewen, because Ewen was thoughtful, kind, and treated her right. Jason made it clear that if Ewen didn't treat her right then Ewen would have to answer to Jason. Elizabeth smiled, and continued to play pool. Later, Elizabeth was frustrated that she had lost.
Jason apologized, but Elizabeth insisted that it wasn't necessary, because it would mean more to her when she finally won a game. Jason invited her to play another game, but Elizabeth announced that she had to leave. Jason was disappointed, but he told her that he hoped that Ewen was what she was looking for, because she deserved to be happy. Jason hugged Elizabeth, and then watched her leave. Afterwards, he pulled some money out of his pocket to pay the tab.
Jason realized that he had pulled out the phoenix figurine along with the money, so he looked at the figurine for a long moment, dropped some cash on the table, and then set the figurine on the pool table. Afterwards, he left.
6/18 Jason went to the Quartermaine mansion to sign papers. Tracy showed Jason where to sign, asked Jason to wait for Michael, who also needed to sign, and then left to seek out Luke. Michael arrived dressed for the Sam's baby's funeral and wondered why Jason was not with Sam. Jason told Michael everything, including the part he had played. Michael told Jason that what had happened to Sam's baby was not Jason's fault.
Jason said that the reason that he was not going was because Sam did not want him there. Michael replied that just because Sam did not want Jason at the funeral did not mean that Sam did not need Jason. Jason said that Michael sounded just like his mother, Carly. Jason still felt guilt because he had feared that the baby would be a constant reminder of Franco and what Franco had done to Sam.
Jason told Michael that Jason had realized that he could love the baby, but by the time he had figured that out and had gone to tell Sam, she had already been wandering the woods. Jason said that he remembered Michael as a baby and that Sam would never have the time with her son that Jason had had with Michael. Michael said that maybe Sam just needed some time to process, and Jason would not know whether or not Sam could forgive him until Jason tried to talk to Sam.
Sam, Alexis, Kristina, and Molly gathered at the cemetery to bury Sam's baby. Molly, Alexis, and Kristina tried to give Sam support, but Sam was inconsolable. Kristina tried to talk about Jason, but Sam did not want to talk, so Kristina respected Sam's wishes. Sam said that she felt like she was falling apart. Sam told her family that when she lost her first child, she had never seen her daughter's face. Sam said that with her son, she could see his face and eyes and could remember everything about him. She said that she did not know how she would get through.
Sam told Alexis, Molly, and Kristina that she could not stop thinking about her baby and how she had left him alone. Alexis told her to remember the baby the way he had been when he was born. They all hugged. Spinelli arrived and told Sam that he had no appropriate sentiment and did not know how to make things right for Sam. Spinelli told Sam that he loved her, and he was sorry for all that she had lost.
Michael also arrived at the funeral. Kristina urged Michael to leave with her so that Sam was not reminded of Jason, but Sam noticed Michael and called to him. Michael told Sam that she would have been a great mom. Carly also appeared and was sincere when she hugged Sam and told her how sorry she was for Sam's loss.
Carly noticed that Todd was also at the service. As the mourners left, Sam told her immediate family that she wanted to spend some time alone. Alexis, Kristina, and Molly followed Sam's wishes and left. Sam pulled out a photo of the infant. Jason entered the gate and observed her. Sam looked up and saw Jason.
6/19 In the church courtyard, Jason told Sam that he had wanted to be there for her son's funeral. He admitted that he was deeply sorry that the baby had died, so Sam revealed that her son had been buried next to her daughter. Jason wondered where Alexis and Sam's sisters were. Sam confessed that she had told them to leave, because she had thought that she had wanted to be alone. "Do you?" Jason asked.
Sam didn't have an answer for Jason, so he admitted that he regretted that he hadn't realized sooner that he could open his heart to her son. He was haunted by thoughts of how things might have turned out differently if he had. Sam confided that she too wondered how things might have been if she hadn't searched for answers about the video that Franco had left for them.
Jason knew that words couldn't fix things, but he assured Sam that he had meant what he had told her. Jason insisted that he was sorry. Sam confessed that she had had doubts about attending the funeral. She decided to read a portion of the poem that Molly had given to her.
"When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of circled birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die," Sam read.
Sam wept, as she sat down on a nearby bench. Jason confessed that he wanted to help her. "Will you let me?" he asked. Sam couldn't answer, so Jason gently suggested that she not return to the motel. Sam assured him that John had left town, but Jason promised her that he had simply meant that she shouldn't be alone. Sam revealed that she intended to stay with her mother and sisters at the lake house.
Jason reminded Sam that they were still married, so he wanted her to go home with him, because he loved her. Sam promised him that she would always love him, so Jason assured her that they could move forward. He asked her to try to give them a chance, but Sam insisted that too much had happened. "I'm sorry, I can't," Sam confessed. Jason watched helplessly as Sam walked away.
6/21 Elizabeth was tidying up her living room when someone knocked on the door. Elizabeth dashed to the dinning room table to light two candles, and then dumped an armful of toys into a pile near the door. She was surprised when she saw Jason standing on her doorstep. Jason explained that he needed to talk to her, so Elizabeth invited him in. Jason revealed that he had gone to the cemetery to pay his respects to Sam's son and had unexpectedly bumped into Sam.
Jason confided that he had thought, for an instant, that Sam would let him help her, but she simply couldn't get past what he had done. Elizabeth reminded Jason that Jason and Sam loved each other. Jason assured Elizabeth that he loved Sam, but Sam couldn't forgive him. Elizabeth suggested that perhaps Sam blamed Jason for what had happened, because Sam couldn't blame herself. Jason insisted that Sam hadn't done anything wrong.
Elizabeth reminded Jason of her reaction when Jason had asked Elizabeth to donate Jake's kidney to Josslyn. Elizabeth had attacked Jason. Jason pointed out that she had been grieving. "Just like Sam is," Elizabeth replied. Elizabeth recalled that she had accused Jason of not wanting or loving Jake, because it had been easier to lash out at Jason than to face what she had done. Elizabeth explained that if Sam could stay mad at Jason, and blame him for everything, then Sam wouldn't have to ask herself why she had insisted on staying at the motel, taken her newborn out in bad weather, wandered into the woods, and left the infant in a planting box.
Jason explained that Sam had been in shock, so Sam hadn't known what she had been doing. Elizabeth pointed out that Jason understood that, but Sam didn't, because Sam was hiding from a pain that was too terrible to face. Elizabeth added that a mother could never forgive herself for failing her child.
Jason insisted that he had been the one who had failed the baby. Elizabeth agreed that Jason and Sam had both made mistakes, but even if they had done everything right, there hadn't been any guarantee that the baby would have survived. Jason realized that there wasn't any way to know that for certain.
"Exactly," Elizabeth replied. Jason had been frustrated when he saw Sam weeping at the cemetery, because he couldn't fix things for his wife. He recalled that everything had seemed perfect on his wedding day to Sam. Elizabeth put her arm around Jason, as they sat in silence. Moments later, Ewen arrived. Ewen apologized for being late, but then stopped short when he saw Jason.
Ewen offered to take a rain check on dinner, but Jason announced that he was about to leave. Ewen went to the table to open the bottle of wine, while Elizabeth said goodbye to Jason. Jason thanked Elizabeth for listening, so Elizabeth assured him that she would always be there for him if he needed her. "That's what friends are for," she added. Jason thanked her, and then left. Ewen held out a glass of wine to Elizabeth, which Elizabeth accepted with a smile.
Elizabeth was curious how Ewen's first day back at work went. "Did you unlock the mysteries of the mind?" she asked. "Some, but there are still mysteries to be uncovered," he replied.
Spinelli was surprised when he saw Sam seated at her desk, so she explained that she had needed a distraction, because she couldn't stop thinking about her baby and Jason. She revealed that Jason had shown up after the baby's funeral and had asked if they could start over. "Can you?" Spinelli wondered. Sam confessed that she couldn't get past what Jason had done.
Spinelli suggested that sometimes love wasn't enough. Sam sensed that Spinelli had been referring to Maxie. Spinelli admitted that Maxie intended to remain married to Matt, so Spinelli had decided to give up on Maxie. However, he assured Sam that it didn't mean that Jason and Sam couldn't work things out. Sam insisted that too much had happened. She regretted looking for answers about the DVD that Franco had sent and turning to Heather for help.
Spinelli perked up at the mention of Heather's name. He revealed that Heather was the subject of his latest case. Sam was intrigued, so she asked him to tell her about his case. Spinelli showed her his notes and told her that Heather had taken Olivia's car on the night that Sam's baby had been born.
Spinelli revealed that a state trooper had pulled Heather over, and that Heather had introduced her passenger as her husband. Spinelli explained that Heather had been obsessed with Luke, so Spinelli had left a message for Luke to find what Luke might know.
Sam was eager to get some answers, because she was certain that Heather wasn't nearly as recovered as Heather would have people believe. Sam told Spinelli about the cruel things that Heather had said to Sam regarding Franco and the baby, so Sam wanted to be the one to send Heather back to Ferncliff. Spinelli fetched some Chinese takeout, and then brainstormed with Sam. Sam admitted that it felt a little like old times.
6/22 Sam and Spinelli shared Chinese food at the McCall & Jackal offices, awaiting a call from Luke. Woodrow, one of Spinelli's associates at the Metro Court Hotel, called. He reported that he'd seen Heather go to Todd's room. Sam was perplexed as to what connection those two could have.
Spinelli conducted an Internet search on Todd and discovered that he'd been convicted of rape and charged with the murder of his twin brother Victor. Todd had escaped punishment on the latter charge, because he'd been diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder. "Which means Todd could be as crazy as Heather," Sam mused. Spinelli suggested they go to Todd's room to find out what Heather and Todd had in common.
Spinelli and Sam met Woodrow at the Metro Court. Woodrow gave them a key card and left. Sam entered the room, while Spinelli kept watch in the hallway. Inside, Sam found Heather's résumé and snapped a photo. Sam also noticed the crumpled newspaper clipping of the article about her baby's death.
Outside, Todd walked up to Spinelli and asked what was up. Spinelli nervously covered, saying he was a private investigator and that he wanted to enlist Todd's aid. Todd pushed past Spinelli and entered his room. Spinelli barged in and distracted him long enough for Sam to escape.
Upon returning to the office, Sam wondered why Todd had a clipping about her baby's death. She and Spinelli also wondered why Heather was trying to get a job as a reporter.
6/26 Jason caught up to Sonny at Shadybrook, as Sonny was about to enter Kate's room. Sonny explained that he had called Jason to tell Jason that Kate had remembered something significant, which had led to her dissociative identity disorder. Jason was stunned when Sonny revealed that Joe Scully Jr. had raped Kate.
Sonny added that Joe Jr. had gone underground after Joe Jr. had murdered a dancer in an Atlantic City nightclub. Jason realized that the dancer had been John McBain's sister. Sonny admitted that he had told John the truth about Theresa's murder, but Sonny doubted that John had believed him.
Jason suspected that John was checking out the story, because Sam had told Jason that John had left town. Sonny was surprised that Jason had talked to Sam. Jason confided that nothing had changed, because Sam couldn't get past what Jason had done.
Sonny insisted that Jason hadn't known that Sam had been in labor when Jason had sent the thugs after John, but Jason argued that it didn't matter, because Jason couldn't give Sam her baby back. Sonny reminded Jason that Sam's baby had been born with a condition, so there weren't any guarantees that the baby would have survived.
Jason changed the subject by suggesting that Sonny check on Kate, while Jason searched for Joe Jr. Sonny wanted Joe Jr. delivered to him, so that Sonny could take care of Joe Jr. the same way that Jason had taken care of Franco. Jason agreed to do as instructed, so Sonny told Jason that Joe Sr. had sent some money to Fleur De Lis in New Orleans following Joe Jr.'s disappearance.
In an examination room, Patrick assured Jason that everything seemed fine. Jason wondered if it was his last follow-up appointment, so Patrick explained that he would have to see Jason in six months for one final checkup. Jason thanked Patrick, because Patrick and Robin had saved Jason's life. After Jason left, Patrick popped a couple of pills. Moments later, Ewen entered the room.
At McCall and Jackal Private Investigations, Spinelli arrived with some tea. Sam accepted the cup that he handed to her, but Spinelli noticed that she seemed distracted. Sam explained that she had a lot of questions about her son's death, but she insisted that she needed to focus on moving forward.
Spinelli wished that he could give her some answers, so Sam suggested that he start by telling her why Todd had had an article about her son's death. Spinelli thought that perhaps Heather had dropped the clipping while Heather had been in Todd's suite. Sam conceded that it was possible, given how Heather had seemed to take delight in Sam's misery.
Sam wondered why Todd would hire someone like Heather, unless Heather had blackmailed Todd. Spinelli agreed that it was a possibility, but they couldn't figure out what kind of information Heather might have on Todd. A short time later, Diane called to tell Spinelli about Todd's decision to fire Diane so that Heather could take over the gossip column.
Sam and Spinelli agreed that they needed to dig further, so they went to Crimson. Spinelli and Sam crept to Todd's office door and eavesdropped as Todd made it clear that he expected Heather to work. Heather warned Todd not to upset her. "We both know what could happen if I get upset," Heather added in a threatening tone.
6/27 Todd accused Heather of being a blackmailer and gold-digger, but Heather simply issued more veiled threats until a frustrated Todd finally ordered her to leave. Smiling with satisfaction, Heather thanked Todd, and then left, unaware that Sam and Spinelli had been lurking outside the door, eavesdropping. Sam and Spinelli quickly ducked out of sight before they were spotted.
Sam quietly suggested that Spinelli follow Heather, while Sam worked on Todd. After Spinelli left, Sam knocked on Todd's door. Todd was in his office, filled with regret over having switched Sam's healthy baby with Téa's dead son. He was startled when Sam entered his office. Sam introduced herself, which prompted Todd to reveal that his best friend was named Sam, and that Sam had been named after Todd's attorney.
Todd admitted that Sam was actually his nephew, but the little boy would have been his son, if Todd's mother hadn't held him captive for several years. Todd explained that his nephew thought of Todd as a superhero, and that the little boy had been the only person who had stuck by Todd after Todd had been arrested for Victor's murder.
Sam seemed confused about why Todd had told her all of that, so Todd enlightened her. He revealed that he had a rich history with people named Sam, so he was predisposed to like her. However, Todd questioned Sam's choice of friends, especially John McBain. Todd blamed John for ruining Todd's chances with Blair. He then shifted gears by guessing that Sam was there for a job.
Sam was surprised when Todd revealed that he knew that Sam was a private investigator. Todd explained that it was his job to know about the people in town, so he wondered if perhaps Sam wanted to job, because she was investigating Todd. Sam quickly assured him that she wanted a change in careers, because her current business partner was best friends with her husband.
Sam claimed that she didn't want to risk running into Jason, so she was eager for a fresh start. Todd was curious if she intended to change her last name after her divorce from Jason. He revealed that both of his wives hadn't taken his last name, so that hadn't been an issue when they had divorced.
Sam confessed that she hadn't thought that far ahead, but she didn't want to be connected to Jason's life. Todd had concerns about Sam's ability to handle the difficult world of news reporting, since she had just lost a child. Sam insisted that her baby had been taken from her, and suggested that he should know that.
Todd was taken aback by her outburst, so Sam quickly clarified that her baby would have lived, if it hadn't been for her husband. Sam thought that Todd had understood that, because of the article that he had printed about her child's death. Todd quickly explained that one of his reporters had written the story.
Sam wanted a fresh start, so she implored Todd to give her a chance. Todd reluctantly agreed, but he warned her that he wouldn't take it easy on her. He revealed that he expected his employees to work long hours and admitted that he was "emotionally unhealthy." Sam smiled with satisfaction, and then quickly settled in at the desk in the outer office. A short time later, Todd handed Sam a stack of files and instructions.
Todd decided to give Sam a list of people whose calls he would take, which included his nephew, Sam; his children; and his ex-wives. Todd then made it clear that he would not take any calls from Dorian Lord, David Vickers, Bo and Nora Buchanan, or Tomas Delgado. Todd even invited Sam to kill Tomas, if Tomas should call. "Got it," Sam replied with a smile. Todd hoped that Sam could keep up.
At the hospital, Elizabeth was surprised when she bumped into Jason. Jason explained that he had seen Patrick for a checkup. Jason revealed that he had been given a clean bill of health for the next six months. Elizabeth was happy for Jason and admitted that he looked better than the last time that she had seen him. Jason thanked Elizabeth for listening to him when he had needed to talk to someone. Elizabeth assured him that was what friends were for.
Jason hoped that he hadn't ruined Elizabeth's evening with Ewen. Elizabeth admitted that it had been a low-key evening, and that she and Ewen had talked. However, her brother, Steve, had given her a hard time about it, because Steve feared that Elizabeth was holding back with Ewen. Jason was curious why Steve would think that, so Elizabeth explained that Steve was worried that Elizabeth was setting herself up to be hurt again by Jason. Jason insisted that it was crazy. "Isn't it?" he asked her.
"Maybe not," Elizabeth replied. Elizabeth quickly clarified that Jason wasn't the destructive force in her life, she was, because she had a way of ruining all of her relationships. Jason didn't want to cause problems for Elizabeth, but Elizabeth insisted that she was perfectly capable of exploring a relationship with Ewen, and being a friend to Jason. However, her brother had watched her fall apart when things hadn't worked out with Lucky, so Steve was concerned.
Jason argued that Elizabeth was a stronger person than she had been. Elizabeth agreed, because she had realized that no matter how much she had loved Lucky, they couldn't be together. Elizabeth had learned from her mistakes with Lucky and was ready to move on. Jason thought perhaps he should do the same with Sam. Elizabeth insisted that things were different for Jason and Sam, because Jason and Sam were married and had a solid foundation to build on.
Elizabeth was confident that Jason and Sam would eventually work things out, but Jason didn't hold out much hope, because he couldn't give Sam's baby back to Sam. Jason admitted that there had been a moment when Jason had handed Sam her dead son that Sam had insisted that someone had switched babies. Jason wished that had been true, because then he would have been able to find Sam's baby and put their family back together again.
Moments later, Bernie called Jason with a lead on Joe Scully Jr. Elizabeth walked Jason to the elevator, where they said goodbye and hugged. Ewen watched them through an office window.
6/28 Sam crept to the door to eavesdrop on Todd and Heather. However, Spinelli chose that moment to check in with Sam. Sam explained that Todd had hired her, and then quickly ended the call, so that she could continue to spy on Todd and Heather. In the office, Heather wondered if Todd was prepared to spend eight hours, every day, with Sam.
Todd reminded Heather that Sam had been hired to answer the phones and check the mail, not to live with him. Heather insisted that giving Sam a job made Todd look guilty. Todd made it clear that he intended to help Sam in any way that he could, because he had taken Sam's son from Sam.
"Oh, well, that's a fair trade. You take her baby and offer her an entry-level position at the Sun," Heather sarcastically replied. Todd informed her that he owned the newspaper, so his assistant was not an entry-level job. Heather argued that Sam was a private investigator, so Sam was there to spy on Todd. "You're an idiot, " Heather shouted.
Todd made it clear that his employee didn't have the right to call him an idiot. Heather missed Ferncliff, where people didn't have to sugarcoat the truth. Todd dared Heather to tell Sam the truth, so Heather reminded him that Téa would be the one left grieving when Sam was reunited with her son. Heather ordered Todd to fire Sam, but Todd stood his ground, because he understood why Sam wanted a fresh start. Todd had left Llanview for similar reasons.
Heather was certain that Sam was there to help Spinelli spy on Heather for Olivia. Todd laughed, but Heather was not amused. Todd suggested that it could work to their advantage, if he were able to keep an eye on Sam. Heather warned Todd that he would just open himself up to Sam discovering that he had switched babies.
Heather marched to the door, prepared to leave, but stopped short when she found Sam standing on the other side of the door. Heather demanded to know what Sam had been doing. Sam claimed that he had been about to knock. Todd announced that Sam could leave for the day, so he escorted Sam to the elevator and told her that he would see her in the morning.
Heather smiled smugly, as Todd returned to his office. Todd pointed out that all they knew for certain was that Spinelli was investigating Heather. Heather insisted that Sam could find out about the baby. Todd didn't see how, since they hadn't given Téa a receipt for the baby. Todd was confident that their secret was safe, since it was unlikely that Sam would try to obtain DNA samples of every child born on the night of the storm. Heather didn't think that Todd should risk it. She warned him that he was playing with fire.
6/29 Sam went to the Floating Rib by herself and thought about her declaration to Todd that her baby hadn't died. he'd been taken from her. She called John, just as he'd finished a call with Natalie. He was aboard a plane that was sitting on the tarmac in New York. Sam needed to talk to a friend.
John lamented not having been able to get her and her son to the hospital before the boy died. They had to end their call, because the plane was about to take off. Sam thanked John for listening. The passenger assigned the seat next to John arrived. It was Jason. Jason asked to be seated elsewhere, but the plane was full. He reluctantly sat next to John. "Was that my wife you were talking to?" Jason asked.
"This is gonna be a long flight," John worried. He added that Sam had just needed to talk, but that she'd be fine, as she was a strong person. Jason was perturbed that John was in contact with Sam.
John changed the subject. Sonny had sent Jason to confront Joe Jr., John accused, because Joe would contradict Sonny's claim that Joe had killed John's sister. Jason denied his trip had anything to do with Joe or Theresa. John asked Jason about the murder of his sister Emily.
Jason argued that it didn't matter how justice was obtained. John disagreed and said that murder was not justice. John made it clear, "Joe Scully Jr. is mine." After a period of silence, Jason softened and asked how Sam was doing. John let him know that she was having a hard time. He added that the phone call he'd finished just before Jason walked onto the plane was the first conversation John had had with Sam since he had left Port Charles.
After the plane landed, Jason urged John to get to Joe Jr. before Jason did. "I'm counting on it," John promised. Just then, two uniformed officers boarded the plane. One told Jason, "We have a problem."
Elizabeth stopped by the Floating Rib to pick up an order of barbecue she'd phoned in. Sam noted that Liz had overheard her conversation with John and implied that Liz would run to Jason with the news. Liz replied that, even if she wanted to, Jason was not in town.
Liz tried to be supportive and suggested Sam's anger was the result of grief. Liz alluded to Jason's visit to Liz's house. That set Sam off. "I just didn't expect you to make your move so fast," Sam snarkily said. She accused Liz of not having gone after Jason earlier because she was pining for Lucky but, since Lucky was gone, Liz was going for Jason.
"You've never stopped loving Jason, have you?" asked Sam.
"What about you?" replied Liz. "Have you stopped loving him?" she posed. Liz warned Sam that, if she kept pushing Jason away, he'd leave, and Sam would have no one to blame but herself.
7/2 As John McBain and Jason prepared to deplane in New Orleans, each averred that he would be the first to reach Joe Scully, Jr. John got off to a quick start when security officials detained Jason and told him that he was on the watch list. It became obvious that McBain was responsible for putting Jason on the watch list as a way to slow Jason down when he told Jason that it would be two hours before Jason could clear security. John offered a smug, "Tough luck," as he departed the plane.
Sonny phoned Jason and, upon learning about Jason's detention, said he should not have told McBain that Joe, Jr., was in New Orleans. Jason told Sonny that Alexis had cleared him with security, and he was free to leave the plane. Sonny told Jason that it was important for Jason to present Joe, Jr., to Sonny so that Sonny could finish the business that Joe, Jr., had started.
Trey's father recommended an antique to a customer, who turned out to be John McBain. John pulled the blinds, locked the door, pointed his gun, and called Trey's father, "Joe." Joe told McBain to take what he wanted, but McBain said he was there for Joe, the family screw-up.
McBain cuffed Joe Scully, who continued to insist that John had the wrong guy. Scully flinched when John said that Sonny Corinthos would disagree, convincing John that he had the right guy. John told Scully that he was going back to Atlantic City to stand trial for murder. While John talked, one of Scully's men sneaked up on John and knocked him out.
When John woke up, he was tied up, and Scully was standing over him. Scully told John that he should not have gone to New Orleans. Joe taunted McBain and told John that his problem was with Sonny, not Scully. Scully said that he was not running. He told John that John was the one going away and that John would soon be reunited with his beloved Theresa. Scully ordered his henchmen to put McBain in the van.
Before they could do so, Jason burst in and shot them. He got the drop on Scully. McBain taunted Scully. John told Joe that he would not be going to Atlantic City, but to Port Charles, because Jason was not a cop, but Sonny's number two. McBain then thanked Jason for the save and told Jason to let him take Scully to Atlantic City to stand trial.
Jason said that Scully would figure some legal way out and would not pay for his crimes. Jason would not let that happen. As Jason started walking Scully towards the door, McBain asked Jason to untie him. Jason shrugged and said, "Tough luck," as he marched Scully out the door.
7/3 At the lake house, Sam was reading the Sun when she sensed that someone was standing behind her. She glared when she realized that it was a cameraman. Sam threatened to break the camera over the man's head if he didn't stop filming her. Moments later, Kristina walked out. Kristina tactfully suggested that the cameraman shoot something else, so the cameraman decided to change the battery on his camera. Kristina apologized to her sister, as the man walked away. Sam explained that she was going to work, so it was fine.
Kristina was surprised that Sam wasn't spending the Fourth of July with Jason. Sam insisted that the holiday was the perfect time to get some work done, so Kristina wondered if Sam would ever be able to get past what Jason had done. "You still love him, right?" Kristina asked. Sam appreciated that Kristina was concerned, but Sam didn't want to discuss it. Kristina wished that she could wave a magic wand to make all of Sam's problems go away. Sam smiled, hugged her sister, and then left.
Sam was on the phone with Spinelli when she entered the offices of Manning Enterprises. She revealed that the offices appeared closed, so she intended to search for evidence that would connect Heather to Todd. After Sam ended the call, she picked up some papers from Todd's desk. Sam was looking through the papers when Todd appeared in the doorway. He wondered if she had found what she was looking for. Sam was surprised to see Todd, and assumed he never took time off from work.
Todd wondered why she wasn't off somewhere, enjoying the fireworks. Sam explained that the idea of kids and hotdogs in the park was not appealing to her "at the moment." Todd realized that Sam was thinking about her son, so he handed her a file and put her to work. He wanted Sam to review the charts and graphs on Crimson to help him decide if the magazine was worth saving.
Sam didn't think that it was her place to make that decision, since Todd would be the one who would have to work with the woman who had caused his granddaughter's death. Todd claimed that he had never been one to let personal feelings get in the way of turning a profit.
Sam confided that she wouldn't be able to spend every day, side-by-side, with the person who had taken away a child that she loved. Todd hid his discomfort, as Sam explained that she had taken the job with Todd to get away from her old life, and what she had lost. Todd confessed that he had read the papers, so he empathized with Jason.
Todd knew what it was like to suddenly find out that he had a "psycho" twin brother. He had read that Franco had been a rapist, so he suggested that perhaps Sam had been better off not having had Franco's child. Sam was offended and immediately turned to leave. Todd called out to her, in an attempt to apologize.
Sam admitted that she had read the papers, too, so she was curious if Todd thought that his own children would have been better off dead, because Todd had raped someone. Todd shifted uncomfortably, as he asked Sam not to leave. He reminded her that she was young and beautiful, so she would have another opportunity to have a baby. Sam confided that she had lost a baby a few years before, so her little boy had been her last chance at motherhood.
Sam explained that it would be too terrifying for her to go through another pregnancy after she had lost two children. Todd told Sam how deeply sorry he was for what she had gone through. Sam thanked him, but insisted that it wasn't his fault, so Todd confessed that he needed to tell her something.
7/5 At Manning Enterprises, Sam admitted that her son had been her last chance to be a mother. Todd expressed how sorry he was, but Sam reminded him that he was not to blame. Todd confessed that he needed to tell her something about her baby. However, Heather walked in before he could elaborate. Heather was surprised to see Sam, so Todd explained that he and Sam were working. Todd was curious why Heather was there.
Heather showed him her column, and then revealed that it had taken longer to write than anticipated, because a "rat" named Spinelli had been following her. Heather was certain that Sam knew all about it, but Sam insisted that Sam and Spinelli were no longer partners. Sam suggested that Heather take it up with Spinelli if Heather wanted to know why Spinelli had been tailing Heather.
Heather was curious what Todd and Sam had been talking about when Heather had walked in, so Sam revealed that Todd had been about to tell Sam something about Sam's baby. Heather was stunned, so she demanded to speak to Todd privately. Todd refused, but Heather told Sam to order some lunch and then dragged Todd into his office.
Heather couldn't believe that Todd had been about to tell Sam about the baby switch. Heather warned Todd that Sam was only there to dig up dirt on Todd, so Todd shouldn't trust Sam. Todd explained that he wanted to help Sam, because of what he had done to Sam. "Excuse me for having a heart," Todd added. "Which seems to come and go like the wind," Heather replied. Todd insisted that Heather didn't know anything about his heart, so Heather reminded Todd that he had killed his twin brother, Victor.
Todd argued that Victor had been a miserable human being who had deserved to die. Heather claimed that Téa didn't agree with Todd's assessment. Todd resented Heather presuming to know what Téa would think. Todd insisted that Téa was a "principled" woman who wouldn't want Sam to suffer. Heather claimed that Sam didn't deserve Todd's sympathy or feelings of guilt, but Todd disagreed, because Sam was grieving for a baby who hadn't really died.
Meanwhile, Robert Yi arrived to deliver lunch. Robert was pleasantly surprised to see Sam and admitted that his grandparents still talked about Jason and Sam's wedding. Robert imagined that Jason and Sam's love had grown since their wedding day. Sam smiled politely but refrained from telling him that her marriage was on the rocks. Robert suggested that Sam remind her boss that it was a holiday so that Jason and Sam could celebrate. Sam asked Robert to pass along her greetings to his grandparents and then watched him leave.
In Todd's office, Todd regretted the pain and grief that he had caused Sam, but Heather warned him that it couldn't be undone. Todd disagreed; he could tell Sam the truth. Heather suggested that Todd be prepared to go to jail, so Todd reminded Heather that she would also go to jail, because he wouldn't hesitate to let the police know that she had been carting Anthony around in a wheelbarrow.
Heather insisted that she had been helping a friend, but Todd didn't care. He insisted that Heather had pushed him to switch babies by lying about Sam. Desperate, Heather reminded him that Téa and Starr would be hurt if Todd were to reveal the truth about the baby switch.
Heather wanted Todd to promise that he wouldn't breathe a word to Sam about where Sam's son was, but Todd refused. Heather warned Todd that Sam's husband, Jason, would kill Todd if the truth were ever revealed.
Moments later, Sam knocked on the door to announce that lunch had been delivered. Sam insisted on knowing what Todd had intended to tell her about her baby. Heather seized the opportunity to cover for Todd. Heather claimed that Todd had wanted to tell Sam that Jason had sent some men after John McBain on the night of the baby's birth, so Sam's baby had died because Jason had kept John from returning to the motel room.
Sam was shocked; she was curious how Heather and Todd had found out. Heather explained that it was Heather's job, as a gossip columnist, to keep a pulse on the community, even the dark side. Heather offered her condolences, but Sam questioned if Heather were truly sorry for Sam's loss. "Of course I am," Heather replied. Heather then decided to fetch a BLT at Kelly's instead of staying for lunch.
After Heather left, Todd claimed that he had been uncertain if the details about what Jason had done would give Sam closure, or cause her more pain. However, he was sorry for what Sam had gone through. Sam explained that no truth could ever give her baby back to her. Todd remained troubled as he tried to eat his lunch. He didn't have much of an appetite, so he decided to break open his fortune cookie.
"Like the worm in the apple, the truth will eventually be found," Todd read. Meanwhile, Sam opened her fortune cookie, which stated, "You may yet hold happiness again."
7/6 Jason met Sonny at the warehouse, and Sonny admitted he hadn't killed Joe Jr., because John had interfered. Sonny had confronted Joe about what had happened to Kate, but Joe had denied raping Kate. Sonny then explained that Joe had confessed to killing Theresa, but had blamed John for what had happened.
Sonny conceded that it was possible that Joe had killed Theresa, because Theresa had been talking to a federal agent. Sonny thought that it had been a rookie mistake for John to approach Theresa the way that John had. Sonny was surprised when Jason refused to judge John, because Jason knew what it was like to make a mistake.
Jason blamed himself for the death of Sam's baby, but Sonny insisted that Jason couldn't have known. Sonny pointed out that Sam had been nine months pregnant, and that it had been her choice to stay in a motel room, rather than somewhere safer. Jason regretted that it had taken him so long to accept the baby. Sonny was certain that, in time, Sam would forgive Jason. Jason didn't agree, because he'd realized too late that he could have loved Sam's child. Jason doubted that Sam would ever believe that.
Sam was surprised when she spotted John sitting alone on the docks, drinking bourbon. She wondered why he hadn't returned to Llanview. John revealed that he'd learned that Sonny had taken the fall for Joe Scully Jr., who had killed Theresa. John then told her about Joe's claim that Theresa had been killed because she had been talking to John, a federal agent
John changed the subject by asking how Sam how was doing. She told him that she was concentrating on work to keep from thinking about her depressing life. John warned Sam that suppressing her emotions would make things worse in the long run. Sam complained that Heather had a knack for making her feel worse. She worried that Heather was obsessed with her.
Sam then mentioned that she had bumped into the man who had married her and Jason. She admitted that she hadn't had the courage to tell Robert about the failure of her marriage. Sam couldn't understand how she and Jason had ended up so far apart. Sam shook off the sad thoughts and stood up to leave, but John asked her to stay. Sam sat back down, and then rested her head on John's shoulder, as he wrapped his arm around her.
Moments later, the fireworks display began. Sam squealed with delight, because she loved fireworks. She admitted that it was the first time, in a long time, that she felt true joy. John smiled at Sam's enthusiasm, as he looked up at the color display in the sky. Moments later, things took a serious turn when John and Sam looked deep into each other's eyes. After several heartbeats, they leaned towards each other, and then kissed.
7/9 As fireworks erupted over Port Charles, Sam and John McBain kissed as Jason watched and then walked away. John and Sam broke the kiss, looked around and then kissed again. After it was over, Sam excused the kiss as being the result of both she and John having too much to drink and not eating any food. Sam said she foolishly thought that a kiss would dull the pain. Sam added that stuff like that happened and that they should not make a big deal out of it.
McBain said that it was a big deal. He said that they had crossed a line and could not ignore it. John admitted that he and Sam had a strange connection, one, which seemed to bring them together frequently. Sam said that she and Jason had had problems before she met John. McBain said that he did not regret knowing Sam and he would miss the connection to Sam if it were not there, but at the same time, he had been down this path before.
McBain told Sam that one wrong move might mean doing something that could not be taken back. When Sam asked what McBain meant, he said that he loved Natalie and his son and would not betray them. Sam said that the same went for her. Sam said that she would not betray Jason or her marriage.
John suggested that with all Sam's pain and loss that she might be putting too much of it on Jason as punishment. John asked her what would be left when her grieving was over. Sam said that she did not know, but she did know that she did not want John to betray his family.
John said that he was leaving for Llanview the next day to prepare for Natalie's return from London. Sam asked if things would go back to the way they were or would John tell Natalie about their kiss. John admitted that he had been angry with Natalie when she had kept something from him to spare him pain.
Sam said there was no reason for John to risk his family because of a pointless drunken kiss. John agreed that if they had not been drinking the kiss never would have happened. Sam said that they should make it official and declare that the kiss never happened.
John smiled and agreed. Sam repeated that there was no need to hurt Natalie. John told Sam that he was going to go sober up. Sam said that she would do the same. They each said that they would miss the other. They share one last longing look before John walked away. Somewhere nearby, a digital camera was attached to a laptop computer. On the screen was a photo of John and Sam sharing a kiss.
Jason went to the bridge to think, after witnessing Sam kiss John McBain. He had tears in his eyes and was remembering the kiss when Elizabeth arrived to retrieve a toy that Cam had left there earlier when the family had been there to observe the fireworks. When Elizabeth asked what was wrong, Jason tried to be a tough guy, but Elizabeth eventually got him to tell her about the kiss he witnessed.
Jason said that Sam had proved to him that their marriage was over. Elizabeth tried to defend Sam, but Jason barked at her and then immediately apologized for getting upset with her. Elizabeth said that she understood that Jason was in pain and she wanted to help him. Jason turned to her and they kissed. Jason broke the kiss and apologized and said that he did not ever want to hurt Elizabeth.
Elizabeth said that no apology was necessary, but if it made Jason feel better, she forgave him. Elizabeth said that Sam's behavior might only be a reaction to her grief and that all Sam might need was time. Elizabeth said that Jason and Sam had too much invested in each other to let their love go easily. Jason agreed and said that was the reason that he had not interrupted Sam and McBain but had opted for the bridge instead.
Elizabeth apologized for intruding but Jason said that he was glad that she was there. Elizabeth told Jason that when things fell apart it was rarely one-sided. Elizabeth said that when she looked back on all the mistakes that she had made in relationships the one thing that she wished was that she had given herself more time to think instead of overreacting. Elizabeth said that was her wish for Jason that he had time to process and time to heal before taking action.
Jason said that he did not know what outcome to hope for. Elizabeth said she understood and was sorry. Gently Elizabeth took Jason's hand, squeezed it, looked him in the eyes and then walked away.
7/10 At Manning Enterprises, Heather handed Todd an envelope. She promised him that it was a big scoop. Todd pulled out a picture of John and Sam kissing. He chuckled as he commented that John wasn't as honorable as John would have people believe. However, Todd's good humor fled when he realized that Heather might have been following Sam. Heather quickly denied it, claiming that she had merely taken advantage of an opportunity of Sam making a "spectacle" of herself.
Todd refused to publish the picture, but Heather insisted that it was worthy of the front page, because Jason was a Quartermaine. Todd reminded Heather that Sam was grieving for a child that was not dead, because he had given the baby to Téa in a "moment of confusion and weakness." Heather thought that the picture would ease Todd's conscience, because it exposed the real Sam. She wondered if Todd thought that the baby should be raised by a woman like Sam.
"Oh, no. He deserves someone much better. He deserves someone like you, Heather," Todd sarcastically replied. "Ideally, of course. But, well, Téa is a close second," Heather responded. Todd shook his head, and then reiterated that he refused to run the story. He admitted that he would love to stick it to John, because the woman that John was cheating on was Todd's niece. Todd clarified that Natalie wasn't his favorite relative, but she was family.
However, Todd intended to find another way to punish John, because Todd insisted that Sam could not suffer more than she already had. "That's where you're wrong," Heather argued. Todd was curious what part of "no" Heather hadn't understood. Heather assured Todd that he would learn to live with what he had done, just as she had learned to live with her secrets. Todd made it clear that Sam was off-limits, so he ordered Heather to find someone else to dig up dirt on. Heather wondered if he had anyone in mind.
At the lake house, Sam slid off her wedding band, as Kristina walked into the living room. Kristina immediately noticed Sam holding the ring, so Kristina was curious if it meant what Kristina suspected that it meant. Sam explained that she wasn't sure that she should be wearing the wedding band. Kristina argued that "not sure" implied that there was still hope that Sam and Jason could work things out.
Sam was tired of feeling angry and upset, so Kristina wondered if Sam missed Jason at all. Sam admitted that she did, but it was always followed by thoughts of her son. Kristina assured Sam that Jason could help Sam through the grief, but Sam argued that it wasn't that easy, because Sam had kissed another man. Kristina was stunned when Sam told her sister about what had transpired on the docks with John.
Sam admitted that she and John had been drinking, but she made it clear that John hadn't done anything that Sam hadn't wanted him to. Kristina was curious if Sam wanted to be with John. Sam explained that the kiss had been inevitable, something that she and John had needed to get out of their systems, but John had returned to his girlfriend and son in Llanview. Kristina wondered if that meant that Sam would get back together with Jason.
Sam clarified that John hadn't been the problem, so Kristina reminded Sam of how much Sam had loved Jason. Kristina was confident that Sam and Jason could get back to that place, if they tried. She urged Sam to put the ring back on, but Sam explained that it wouldn't change anything. Sam couldn't imagine getting back together with Jason, but neither could she imagine Jason not being in her life. However, Sam wasn't ready to end her marriage, so she put the wedding ring back on.
At Kelly's, Elizabeth left Jason a voicemail message to tell him that she was around, if he wanted to talk, and to assure him that she completely understood about the kiss, so he shouldn't worry about it. "Must have been quite a kiss," Steve remarked, as Elizabeth ended the call.
Elizabeth was startled to realize that her brother had been standing behind her. Steve sat down at her table, as he clarified that he hadn't been eavesdropping. However, he wanted to know what had happened between Elizabeth and Jason.
Elizabeth admitted that Jason had kissed her, but she insisted that it hadn't been a romantic kiss. "It was like..." Elizabeth started to explain. "Wrong," Steve finished for her. Elizabeth agreed, because Jason was a married man.
"No, because he's Jason Morgan," Steve corrected her. Elizabeth insisted that the kiss hadn't meant anything, because Jason had been going through a difficult situation, so Jason hadn't been thinking clearly.
Steve appeared skeptical, but he was more interested in how his sister felt about Jason. Elizabeth argued that Steve didn't know what he was talking about, so Steve explained that he didn't want to see her hurt. Elizabeth asked him to drop it, so Steve agreed. Elizabeth quickly changed the subject by asking how Steve had spent the holiday. Steve revealed that he and Olivia had had an argument regarding Heather. Elizabeth pointed out that Heather wasn't the easiest person to get along with.
Steve acknowledged that his mother was "quirky," but Heather had a job, so she was trying to get her life back on track. Elizabeth didn't blame Olivia for having concerns, given Heather's sordid history. Steve revealed that Olivia was upset because Heather had taken Olivia's car without permission to meet a man at a motel. Steve couldn't believe that Heather had taken such a risk because the man could have harmed Heather. Elizabeth assured Steve that Heather could take care of herself.
Jason walked to the edge of the pier, slid off his wedding band, and then stared at it. Michael spotted Jason, so he called out to him. After they greeted each other, Michael confided that he had taken Starr to the Quartermaine barbeque on the Fourth of July. Michael admitted that he and Starr had ended up as more than friends by the end of the evening, so it had been a big night for fireworks. "Yeah, for a lot of people," Jason cryptically replied.
Jason suggested that Michael could save himself a lot of pain by not getting too involved with Starr. Michael realized that Jason was thinking about Sam, so Jason admitted that he had seen Sam and John kissing the night before. Michael was shocked, but Jason explained that Sam no longer trusted Jason.
Jason suspected that it had started in Hawaii, after Franco had raped Sam, because she had refused to let Jason take her to the hospital. Sam had wanted them to handle things on their own, but instead of turning to Jason, Sam had turned to John. Michael wondered if John might be working Sam.
Jason admitted that he had thought so at first, but no longer. Jason had held out hope that he and Sam could work things out until he saw the kiss. Jason explained that Sam hadn't pulled away from the kiss. "We're done," Jason concluded. Michael reminded Jason that Sam was going through a lot, but Jason and Sam still loved each other. Jason agreed that he loved Sam, but he wasn't certain about Sam's feelings.
Michael was certain that there was still hope for Jason and Sam, or else Jason wouldn't have been sitting there torturing himself. Michael decided to take Jason to Kelly's for breakfast. However, Michael's cell phone rang, before they could enter the diner. It was Starr. Jason realized, from listening to Michael's end of the conversation, that Starr wanted to see Michael. He urged Michael to go. Michael agreed to meet Starr at the Elm Street pier, and then left.
At Kelly's, Jason pulled the wedding band out of his pocket and looked at it. He then entered the diner, as Steve and Elizabeth were about to leave. Steve spotted Jason, so Steve told Jason that they needed to talk. Elizabeth realized what Steve was about to do, so she urged her brother to leave it alone. Steve ignored her, as he told Jason that Jason had no business kissing Elizabeth. Sam stood in the doorway, stunned.
7/11 At Kelly's, Steve suggested that Jason not involve Elizabeth in Jason's marital woes. Steve insisted that Jason had no business kissing Elizabeth. "You kissed Elizabeth?" Sam asked, as she walked up behind Jason. Steve, Elizabeth, and Jason turned to look at Sam, who stared accusingly at Jason.
Elizabeth tried to explain that Steve had jumped to the wrong conclusion, after overhearing a conversation, but Sam wanted a straight answer. Jason confirmed that Steve was right about the kiss. Sam snidely gave Jason credit for admitting the truth about what had happened. "I was honest, can you say the same?" Jason shot back. Elizabeth tried to defuse the tension by assuring Sam that the kiss wasn't what Sam thought.
"No one asked you," Sam snapped at Elizabeth. Steve suggested that Sam focus her anger on her husband, not Elizabeth, because Jason had seduced Elizabeth. Elizabeth warned Steve to stay out of it, but Steve reminded Elizabeth that Elizabeth had ended up pregnant the last time that Jason and Sam had gotten into a fight.
Steve's phone rang, so Elizabeth told her brother to answer it. Steve stepped away to take the call. It was Anna, calling to inform Steve that Heather was at the police station. Meanwhile, Sam conceded that Elizabeth had managed to say all of the right things about how Jason had loved Sam, even though Elizabeth hadn't wasted any time "coming on to" Jason. Jason made it clear that he had kissed Elizabeth, not the other way around. Sam was stunned, but recovered quickly. Sam was furious, so Elizabeth suggested that they take it outside.
Sam barked at Elizabeth, but Steve cut Sam off by announcing that he had to leave. Steve wondered if Elizabeth would be okay, so Sam assured him that Elizabeth had Jason to protect her. Elizabeth urged Steve to go, because it didn't concern him. Sam informed Elizabeth that Sam's marriage didn't concern Elizabeth. Sam looked betrayed, as she told Jason that she couldn't believe that he had kissed Elizabeth.
Jason coldly pointed out that Sam wasn't in any position to judge him after what had happened between Sam and John McBain. Sam was hurt that Jason would have the nerve to throw that in her face when all she had done was confide in John. "I saw you kissing him last night on the pier," Jason clarified.
Sam was momentarily speechless, and then quickly explained that it hadn't meant anything. Elizabeth pointed out that Jason and Elizabeth's kiss hadn't meant anything either. Elizabeth assured Sam that Jason loved Sam, but Sam didn't believe her, because Jason wasn't wearing his wedding ring.
Jason admitted that he had taken off the ring after he had seen Sam and John kiss. Sam realized that Jason had believed her when she had told him that she didn't think that they could work things out. Sam assured Jason that he was free to do what he liked with the ring and with Elizabeth. Jason watched as Sam walked out. Elizabeth urged him to go after his wife, but Jason refused.
Outside, Elizabeth apologized to Jason for Steve's behavior. Jason was equally sorry for how rough Sam had been on Elizabeth. Elizabeth made excuses for Sam's reaction, but Jason insisted that he finally knew where he and Sam stood. Elizabeth wondered what it would take for Jason and Sam to work things out. She reminded him that Sam was his wife and that his marriage was worth fighting for. Jason pulled the ring out of his pocket.
Elizabeth insisted that it had just been a kiss. "Theirs, ours, it didn't mean anything." Elizabeth added. Jason explained that his marriage had died when Sam's baby had died.
Todd looked up when Sam knocked on the door, extended a cup of coffee, and apologized for being three hours late. Todd realized that something was troubling Sam, so she admitted that her marriage had crumbled. Todd wished that he could help Sam, but matters of the heart were not his forte.
Moments later, "Crazy calling. Crazy calling. Crazy calling," filled the air, as Todd's cell phone went off. Todd went to answer his phone. It was Heather. Heather explained that she was at the police station. Heather threatened to tell Sam about the baby if Todd didn't help Heather. Todd asked Sam to take care of some files on her desk, and then waited for Sam to leave his office. Todd asked Heather what she expected him to do, so Heather revealed that she had a plan.
Meanwhile, Spinelli called Sam to update her about Heather. Sam spotted Heather's purse on the desk, with the results of Sam's baby's paternity test sticking out. Sam realized that it was Heather's purse, so she decided to check it, hoping for some answers.
7/12 At Manning Enterprises, Todd spoke to Heather on the phone. Heather explained that the police believed that she had buried Anthony in the woods. Todd pointed out that she had. Heather didn't appreciate Todd's attitude, so she demanded that he find someone who looked like Anthony, so that the man could pretend to have been her date on the night that Heather had been pulled over near the Rendezvous Motel. Todd was curious how she expected him to find someone like that on short notice, so Heather revealed that she happened to know someone who fit the bill. Heather explained that the man's name and phone number were in her purse, which was in the reception area.
Moments later, Todd stepped out of his office and snatched Heather's purse out of Maxie's hand. Sam watched in frustration as Todd promptly returned to his office. Maxie was curious what was so special about the ugly purse, so Sam admitted that it was part of an investigation. Maxie smiled with satisfaction, because she realized that Sam was working undercover. Sam asked Maxie to keep her voice down.
In the office, Todd picked up his phone. Heather told him to look for a piece of paper in her purse with the man's name and phone number. Todd was curious what he should tell the man to get the man to cooperate. "I'm ready to pull the trigger," Heather replied. "Oh, okay. Then I'll send up the secret signal and then we'll signal the other Avengers," Todd sarcastically responded.
Heather was not amused. She threatened to expose Todd's secret about the baby switch if he didn't take her seriously. Todd disconnected the call as he dumped the contents of the purse on his desk. He was stunned when he found the results of Sam's baby's paternity test. Memories of Heather's lies about Sam not wanting the baby, because a rapist had fathered her son, raced through his mind, as he stared at the proof that Jason Morgan was the baby's father.
In the reception area, Sam and Maxie were startled when Todd stepped out of his office. Sam asked if she could help Todd with anything, but he just stared at her for a long moment and then headed to the elevator. Maxie trailed behind Todd, in an effort to introduce herself and to ask him to consider her for a job. Todd ignored Maxie as he got on the elevator.
After the elevator doors closed, Maxie complained that Todd was the most self-absorbed, entitled, and rude person that she had ever met. Sam explained that Todd was a bit antisocial, and then confessed that there were times when it seemed like Todd wanted to bare his soul to Sam. Maxie was curious why Todd would hire someone like Heather, so Sam suggested that something shady was going on.
Sam entered Todd's office to look around, so Maxie followed her. They were surprised to see the contents of Heather's purse scattered on Todd's desk. Sam suspected that Todd had taken whatever Heather had been hiding in the purse. Maxie wondered if Sam intended to call Spinelli and if he had mentioned how much he hated Maxie. Sam assured Maxie that Spinelli didn't hate Maxie, but Maxie explained that Spinelli had cut Maxie out of his life, even though he had been the one to betray Maxie.
Sam insisted that Spinelli had been desperate to keep Maxie from wasting away in jail. Maxie complained that it was Spinelli's fault that Maxie had married Matt, but Sam pointed out that Matt had turned himself in, so Maxie could divorce Matt. Maxie explained that she was loyal to Matt and that it didn't feel right to divorce Matt while he was in jail. Sam pointed that Spinelli had moved on, because Maxie had made her choice. Sam knew what that was like.
"You and Jason?" Maxie asked. Sam admitted that things had gone from bad to worse with Jason, because Sam had kissed another man. Sam claimed that she and the man had been upset and drunk, so they had agreed that it would never happen again. Maxie warned Sam that temptation was hard to fight, so Sam explained that the man had left town.
Maxie was relieved, because it meant that Sam wouldn't have to tell Jason. Sam revealed that Jason knew about the kiss, so he had kissed someone else and taken off his wedding ring. Maxie was certain that Sam and Jason could work things out, because they loved each other deeply, but Sam feared that it was too late.
In the interrogation room, Heather was surprised that Todd had shown up without her alibi. Todd confronted Heather with the paternity test that he had found in her purse. Heather demanded to know who had given him permission to go through her things. "You did," Todd reminded her. He couldn't believe that she had allowed everyone to think that Franco had fathered Sam's baby. "Delicious, isn't it?" Heather asked.
Heather insisted that Sam had tried to keep Heather from Steve, so Heather thought that it was only fitting that Sam not have her happy ending. Todd was stunned. He reminded Heather that Sam thought that her baby was dead. Todd regretted that he had allowed Heather to convince him that the baby switch had been for the best. Heather was unrepentant, because she considered Jason to be a thug. According to Heather, everyone was better off with the baby in Téa's arms.
Todd realized that there was a reason a person shouldn't trust a stranger that they met in the woods, pushing a dead person in a wheelbarrow. "You think?" Heather asked. Todd admitted that for weeks he had been feeling a strange new sensation that people called guilt, which had been made worse with the realization that what he had done had been far worse than he had thought. Heather insisted that the fact remained that Todd couldn't do anything about it. Todd glared at Heather.
Dvd #33B 7/27 With Todd away, Sam took the opportunity to search his office. Spinelli joined her, but urged her to give up the case and work on her marriage to Jason instead. Sam said that she could not give up the case because when something did not make sense to her, she had to figure it out. Sam said that Todd's actions did not make sense. Sam said that the only reason that Todd would hire Heather was if Heather was blackmailing him.
Sam added that the way Todd treated Sam made Sam believe that Heather's blackmail had something to do with Sam. Spinelli asked Sam if it was possible that Sam was trying to keep herself distracted from all the pain and grief that she had experienced recently. Sam said that she did not give up easily.
Spinelli retorted that she had given up on her marriage. Sam said that she was not the one who had given up, but Spinelli pointed out that Sam had chosen to keep secrets about Franco from Jason. He asked if Sam had kissed McBain to punish Jason. Sam tried to blame Jason again, but Spinelli told Sam that if she and Jason did not find a way to turn to each other, they would grow further apart.
Sam said that the way to fix things was to find out what Todd was hiding. She said that she had looked everywhere but in Todd's safe. She asked Spinelli to help her crack it, but Spinelli said that he preferred to check on Olivia at General Hospital. Spinelli left Manning Enterprises while Sam remained behind and attempted to open the safe.
Carly met up with Jason at the Metro Court and was surprised that he was there to see a lawyer because he and Sam were divorcing. Carly urged Jason to wait. She said that Sam was grieving and would get over it. Jason said that things had gone too far for that. Jason told Carly that he had kissed Elizabeth.
Carly astutely figured out that Sam had done something to trigger Jason's action. She was not surprised to learn that Sam had kissed John McBain. Jason also told Carly about the ugly scene at Kelly's between Jason and Steve that Sam had witnessed. That was when Sam had learned about the kiss between Jason and Elizabeth.
Carly said that it did not matter. Carly said that she knew that Jason and Sam loved each other and that Jason needed to find Sam and start over. Carly's phone started ringing. She looked at it and said that Todd could wait. Jason urged her to take the call.
The phone rang several times before Carly answered. When she answered, Todd was about to speak, but Johnny stopped him. Johnny told Todd that if Todd told Carly that Johnny, not Connie, was responsible for the accident that killed Hope and Cole, Johnny would tell Sam what Todd had done to her baby.
7/30 In Metro Court, Carly tried to convince Jason that Sam still loved him. Her phone started ringing, and she tried to ignore it when she saw that it was Todd calling. Jason insisted that she take it. Carly did, but all she heard was garbled conversation until Todd said that he would have to call her back. Carly was puzzled when she hung up.
Jason wanted to know what she had going on with Todd. Carly said that he was a friend. Jason said that Bernie had checked Todd out and that Todd was dangerous and had a history of violence. Carly said that Michael and Starr were dating, which Jason also said was a bad idea, but Carly was not so sure. She said that she had been very worried about Michael after Abby's death, and she thought that he was finally happier than he had ever been.
Jason worried that Michael was trying to save Starr because he had been unable to save her family. Carly took the optimistic approach and suggested that Michael and Starr might heal each other. Jason worried that if Michael and Starr broke up, Starr would run to Todd, and Todd would retaliate. Jason said that part of his job was to protect Sonny, and he had to worry about anyone who might prove to be a threat.
Carly said that Todd was a friend to her and would not hurt her. Carly opined that Jason was wrong about Todd just like he had been wrong about Johnny. Carly said that both Todd and Johnny were trying to turn their lives around. Carly said that Todd liked to act tough and mean, but secretly he did many kind and generous things, like being good to Sam and giving her a job.
Jason was surprised to learn that Sam was working for Todd. Carly thought it was because Sam did not want to be with Spinelli, who was close to Jason, but Jason said that Sam loved being a P.I., and the only reason that Sam would take a job with Todd was to investigate him.
Jason worried that Todd was dangerous and Sam would get hurt. Carly encouraged Jason to go see Sam and tell her how he felt, because Sam might appreciate his concern. Jason was still thinking when Carly left the table where they were sitting.
Sam was in Todd's office, one number away from opening his safe, when Kristina walked in on her. Sam quickly hid her safe-cracking equipment, and Kristina did not have a clue about what Sam was doing. She invited Sam for coffee, but when Sam declined, Kristina said that she had a problem that could not wait. Sam took Kristina to the waiting room and listened to Kristina talk about her feelings for Trey and his desire to keep their relationship professional.
Sam said that the easy solution was to quit Mob Princess, but Kristina said that the show was important to both her and Trey. Sam asked Kristina if she could accept Trey's wishes and reminded her of her actions when Ethan had suggested that they could only be friends.
Kristina said that she had been in high school then and that things were different with Trey. Kristina said that Trey understood a part of her that no one else did, including Sonny, who insisted that Trey was hiding a secret. When Kristina said that Sonny knew nothing about Trey, Sam gently pointed out that Kristina did not know Trey very well either.
Kristina got defensive and said that she knew everything about Trey because of the kiss that they had shared. She said that she had thought that something was starting up between them, but that Trey had become weird and distant ever since he had gotten a call from his dad while they were at the coffee warehouse. Kristina remarked that Trey had seemed eager until he got that call and had not been the same since.
Sam suggested that they investigate Trey's dad, but Kristina jumped to Trey's defense. Sam agreed that Kristina was probably right and that Sam should probably not be giving relationship advice, considering the state of her own marriage. Sam told Kristina that if Trey could not see how wonderful Kristina was, then he did not deserve her. Before leaving, Kristina gave Sam a hug. Sam went back to the safe. As she started working on the last tumbler, Jason walked in.
In Johnny's office on the Haunted Star, Todd dialed Carly. The phone was ringing when Johnny dropped a bombshell. He told Todd that he knew that Todd had switched Sam's live baby for Téa's dead one. Johnny threatened to tell Todd's secret if Todd revealed that Johnny, not Connie, was responsible for Hope and Cole's deaths. Todd paused and then told Carly that he would call back.
7/31 At Manning Enterprises, Sam attempted to break into Todd's safe, but Jason interrupted her. Sam wondered what he was doing there, so Jason admitted that he had heard from Carly that Sam was working for Todd. Sam explained that she had wanted a fresh start, but Jason didn't believe her, because he knew that Sam hated office work. He suspected that the job was a cover. Sam was curious why Jason cared, so Jason reminded her that she was still his wife.
Jason warned Sam that Todd was dangerous, but Sam argued that she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself. Sam confessed that Todd didn't scare her. She admitted that she had gotten to know Todd quite well since joining Manning Enterprises. Jason wondered if Todd had mentioned why Todd was interested in her baby. Sam was taken aback by the question, so Jason explained that Carly had mentioned that Todd had showed up at the baby's funeral.
Sam wasn't surprised, because Todd had had an article about her and the baby. Jason was certain that she was investigating Todd, so Sam explained that she and Spinelli had been hired to keep an eye on Heather. Jason pointed out that Heather had been arrested, so there was no reason to continue the investigation. Sam confided that she suspected that Heather had blackmailed Todd to give Heather a job, so Sam was determined to find out what was going on.
Sam admitted that Todd had also talked about Sam's baby on several occasions for no apparent reason. Sam was certain that the safe would provide her with answers. Jason volunteered to guard the door while Sam cracked the safe. Sam accepted the offer, so Jason stood watch.
A short time later, Todd arrived. Sam heard Todd question Jason, so she quickly closed the safe and stepped out of Todd's office. Sam pretended to be surprised to see Jason. Jason claimed that he was there to talk to Sam, but Sam insisted that it wasn't the time.
After Todd entered his office, Sam revealed that she had managed to get into the safe, but hadn't had time to check the contents. Meanwhile, Todd noticed that the picture that hid his safe was askew. Todd went to check the safe, which had opened without Todd having to punch in the code. Todd pulled out the envelope, which contained the results of Sam's baby's paternity test.
8/2 Outside of Kelly's, Sam thought about her encounter with Jason at Manning Enterprises, when he had reminded her that she was still his wife, so he was worried about her getting on Todd's bad side. Sam shook off the thoughts and started to enter the dinner. However, she bumped into her mother as Alexis was leaving Kelly's.
Alexis warmly greeted Sam, so they sat down at one of the outdoor tables to chat. Sam mentioned that production on Mob Princess had been shut down. Alexis was delighted, because it meant that Trey would be leaving town. Sam warned Alexis not to count on it, because Kristina had romantic feelings for Trey. Sam revealed that Trey had kept Kristina at arm's length because of the show.
Alexis realized that Trey had likely stopped production on the show so that he could pursue a relationship with Kristina. Alexis was curious how Sam knew about Kristina and Trey, so Sam confided that Kristina had talked to Sam about Trey when Kristina had asked about Sam and Jason's marriage. Alexis admitted that she had supported Sam and Jason's relationship until Jason had refused to accept Sam's baby.
Alexis was curious where Sam and Jason stood. Sam admitted that Jason had paid Sam a visit, but there was a distance between them, so Sam feared that they might not be able to find their way back to each other. Alexis was shocked when Sam confessed that things had gotten complicated because Sam had kissed John. Sam explained that she and John had been hurting and drinking.
Alexis assured Sam that she wasn't judging Sam, but Alexis was surprised. Sam revealed that the surprising thing had been Jason's reaction when he had witnessed the kiss between Sam and John. Sam explained that Jason had kissed Elizabeth. According to Sam, she and John had been caught up in a bad moment, but Elizabeth was more than another woman to Jason, because Jason and Elizabeth had had a child together.
Sam insisted that it didn't matter that Jake was gone, because Jason and Elizabeth shared a connection. Alexis was certain that it wouldn't be the last time that Jason hurt Sam, so Alexis wondered if Sam intended to divorce Jason. Sam admitted that she hadn't thought about it. Sam explained that it wasn't about ending her marriage, but finding a way to forgive Jason. However, every time that she tried, something stopped her. "What?" Alexis asked.
Sam feared that she would never be able to forgive Jason, so she would keep finding ways to punish him. Sam loved Jason too much to do that to him. Alexis suggested that sometimes the most loving thing to do for a person was to let the person go. Sam was too confused to make any decisions. Alexis assured her daughter that she would represent Sam if Sam decided that she wanted out.
At the Floating Rib, Jason was shooting pool when Sonny entered. Sonny told Jason about the trip to Atlantic City to get answers about Kate's baby, and Joe's comment about Sonny's children. Sonny had a feeling that Joe was making a statement, so Sonny wanted Jason to beef up security on all of Sonny's children. Sonny then changed the subject by revealing that Kristina had talked to Sonny about her concerns regarding Jason and Sam's marriage.
Jason admitted that he feared that Sam would never be able to forgive him. Jason confessed that he had tried to talk to Sam several times, but something always seemed to happen. "Like what?" Sonny asked. As if on cue, Elizabeth and Ewen entered. Jason and Sonny looked up, so Elizabeth and Ewen approached their table. Elizabeth introduced Ewen to Sonny. Ewen made small talk, while Jason looked away. Afterwards, Ewen led Elizabeth to a nearby table.
Sonny wondered what that was "all about." Jason had no idea what Sonny was talking about, but Sonny didn't buy it. Sonny pointed out that Ewen had been treating Kate for months, so Sonny was curious if Elizabeth's introduction had been for Jason's benefit. Sonny sensed that something was going on between Jason and Elizabeth. Jason confessed that he had kissed Elizabeth after seeing Sam and John kissing on the docks.
Sonny pointed out that Jason and Elizabeth had a lot of history, but Sonny doubted that Jason had been thinking about that when Jason had kissed Elizabeth. Jason assured Sonny that the last thing Jason wanted to do was hurt Elizabeth or Sam. Sonny reminded Jason that regardless what happened, Sam was still Jason's wife, so Jason needed to do what was best for everyone. Sonny suggested that Jason call it quits with Sam if Jason and Sam couldn't work things out.
Jason explained that he couldn't be the one to file the papers, but he wouldn't fight it if Sam decided that she wanted a divorce. Jason just wanted the pain to stop, so Sonny advised his friend to figure out what would be less painful in the end. Jason didn't know how to walk away from the life that Jason and Sam had built. Jason became distracted when he glanced at Elizabeth and Ewen's table.
Ewen asked if Elizabeth was okay. She was curious why he had asked, so Ewen pointedly looked at Jason, as he answered, "Your friend." Elizabeth apologized, but Ewen assured her that it wasn't necessary. He appreciated that she cared about Jason and that Jason and Elizabeth might have ended up together if things had been different.
Ewen realized that Jason's marriage was falling apart and that Elizabeth wanted to help, but she held back because she didn't want to get in the way of Jason working things out with Sam. According to Ewen, it said a lot about Elizabeth's empathy and generosity, which were qualities that he admired.
Elizabeth smiled, and then changed the subject by joking about Ewen's deep, dark secret. Ewen looked nervous, so Elizabeth reminded him about his ability to play the harmonica. Ewen relaxed, but Elizabeth teasingly wondered if there was another deep, dark secret that she didn't know about.
Meanwhile, Sonny had to say Jason's name to get Jason's attention. Jason looked away from Elizabeth and turned the conversation back to the original subject of Joe. It didn't escape Sonny's notice, but Jason explained that they needed to be ready if there was a chance that Joe would go after Sonny's family. Sonny revealed that Joe was a coward and a liar, so Sonny was certain that Joe already had a plan in place.
8/3 At Wyndemere, Jerry Jax warns Ewen that no one is to know that he is working with Jerry. Jerry threathens Ewen not to let anyone find out they are working together.
At Kelly's, Jason bumped into Sam as she was about to leave. Jason was curious if she'd had a chance check Todd's safe, so Sam explained that she intended to as soon as possible. Jason shifted gears by reminding her that they needed to talk.
Sam agreed, but she tensed when Elizabeth walked in with Aiden. Sam insisted that she needed to get to work and then left. Elizabeth hoped that Sam hadn't left because of her, but Jason assured her that he was the reason that Sam had been in a rush.
Jason and Elizabeth sat down at a nearby table to talk. Elizabeth felt bad that things were still tense between Jason and Sam. Jason revealed that he had recently helped Sam with a project. Elizabeth thought that it was a good sign, so she wondered if Jason and Sam had talked. "A little," Jason admitted, but he conceded that things had to change. Jason then asked if Elizabeth had enjoyed lunch with Ewen.
Jason had noticed that Ewen had kept looking at him, so Jason feared that he had made things awkward for Elizabeth. Elizabeth revealed that it was her fault, because she had kept staring at Jason and Sonny. She confessed that she couldn't help but notice when Jason was around. Jason admitted that he always noticed Elizabeth too. Elizabeth explained that Ewen was perceptive, so he had probably picked up on the tension between her and Jason.
Jason blamed himself, because he had kissed her. Jason didn't want to mess things up between Elizabeth and Ewen, so she confessed that she had pulled back from Ewen because of Jason. Elizabeth explained that Ewen had sensed something between her and Jason when Ewen had arrived at her house for their date awhile back.
However, Ewen had decided to ask Steve and Patrick about it, instead of her. According to Elizabeth, Steve and Patrick had told Ewen that she and Jason shared personal connection, so Ewen had assumed that Elizabeth had feelings for Jason that ran deeper than friendship. "Is there anything to that?" Jason asked. Jason didn't want their friendship to keep her from being with someone else, but Elizabeth assured Jason not to worry.
She admitted that something had happened on the night that Jason kissed her. Elizabeth had realized that she had been holding back. She had thought that it was because of what had happened to Jake, but the truth was that she didn't have a good track record with relationships, so she feared that all of her relationships were doomed to fail. Jason apologized for making her feel that way, but she insisted that she had made her own mistakes.
Elizabeth admitted that, regardless how her relationships had ended, she'd had good times. She wanted to feel those feelings again. Jason urged her to try again and promised that he wouldn't get in the way. Elizabeth confessed that she'd had other reservations about Ewen, including not wanting her children to get attached to someone who might not stick around. She also confided that something had happened on Spoon Island that had made her leery about dating Ewen.
At Manning Enterprises, Todd was livid that Johnny had disconnected the call, so Todd decided to call Johnny back so that Todd could hang up on Johnny. Todd mumbled, "No way you're ever gonna tell anybody what it is that I've done." Todd quickly ended the call when he saw Sam standing in the doorway. Todd claimed that his comment had been in reference to a charitable donation, which he preferred to keep anonymous. Sam seemed to accept the lie, so she asked if Todd needed anything before she settled in at her desk. Todd suggested that she fetch something from his safe.
Sam tensed as she reminded Todd that she didn't know the combination to the safe. Todd was confident that she wouldn't need it, because he had a feeling that the safe wasn't closed all of the way. Sam went to the safe to retrieve the piece of paper that Todd instructed her to get. Sam glared at Todd as she waved the piece of paper at him and demanded to know what the meaning of it was. The paper read, "You're fired."
Todd slid the envelope with Sam's baby's paternity test out of sight as he accused Sam of breaking into his safe. He realized that Jason had been standing guard. Todd wanted to know what she had been looking for, so Sam suggested that perhaps it had been something about her baby.
Todd was taken aback by the remark, so he wondered why she would say that. Sam went on the offensive by asking what he had been doing with a newspaper clipping about her baby. Todd realized that Heather had been right; Sam had been spying on him.
Sam admitted that she had been investigating Heather, but she wanted answers about why Todd had had the article, why he had hired Sam, and why he had been at her baby's memorial service. Todd reminded Sam that his granddaughter, Hope, had recently been killed in a car crash, so Sam wasn't the only person to mourn the loss of a child.
Todd claimed that he had been filled with remorse because Starr and her family had been on their way to Llanview to support Todd, so he felt partially responsible for what had happened to his granddaughter. The article had resonated with Todd, so he had gone to Sam's baby's memorial service, because he hadn't been able to attend Hope's funeral.
Finally, Todd pointed out that Sam had asked him for a job because she had wanted a fresh start. Todd accused Sam of taking advantage of his compassionate nature to secure the job. Moments later, John stormed into Todd's office, vowing to make Todd pay for what Todd had done.
8/6 John McBain walked into Todd's office and handed Sam the photo that Todd had sent to Natalie that showed John kissing Sam. Sam immediately wanted to know who had taken the photograph. John wanted to know why Todd had sent it to Natalie. Todd said that his niece needed to know the kind of man that she was married to and who had fathered her child. Sam said that it was just a meaningless kiss.
Todd remarked that he did not blame Sam. He said that John had taken advantage of her vulnerable condition. Sam again asked who had taken the photo, but Todd said that he did not reveal his sources. Todd said that he had tried to help Sam but she had repaid him by searching his office and breaking into his safe. John said that there were many ways to hurt him but wanted to know why Todd had chosen to hurt Natalie.
Todd said that Natalie had a right to know about John's faithless behavior. Todd said that he hoped that Natalie was hurt. Todd continued that he wanted Natalie to hurt the way Blair had hurt when John had burst in on Todd's honeymoon to tell Blair that Todd had murdered Victor. Todd said that he wanted to ruin John's life just like John had ruined his. John asked if Todd was finished and then hit Todd in the face. John said that he was just getting started and pummeled Todd.
As he did so, he told Todd that that Todd had ruined his own life when he murdered his brother and committed other crimes. Sam stopped John's rampage and told him that beating Todd to death was not worth it. John and Sam walked out but as Todd continued to lie on the floor, he called John a liar, a cheater, a deadbeat dad, and a sore loser. As he recovered from John's attack, Todd placed a call to the Port Charles Police Department and said that he wanted to report an assault.
Liz and Jason conversed at Kelly's as Aiden sat in his stroller. Jason was concerned about Elizabeth's feelings for Ewen. Elizabeth told Jason about how Ewen had rescued her after Lisa Niles had hit her on the head and tossed her into the harbor. Liz said that Ewen had not take credit for the rescue because his mother had told him that it was bad manners to take credit for a good deed. Jason was still suspicious.
Elizabeth said that Ewen used unorthodox methods. She said that she had first met Ewen at Shadybrook, after she had been admitted. She had thought that he was a patient there. Liz said that it was Ewen's way of getting to know patients that he would be treating.
Liz said that she had been released before Ewen actually treated her. Liz said that even though Ewen was unorthodox, he had never been anything but kind and patient with her. Liz pointed out that Sonny was confident enough in Ewen to let him treat Kate. Jason agreed but said he still felt that something was off about Ewen.
Aiden started coughing, and Elizabeth panicked and thought he was choking. After picking Aiden up, checking him, and holding him on her lap, Elizabeth realized that the child was okay. Elizabeth told Jason that she had overreacted, but that after what had happened to Jake, she worried all the time about the dangers that were right in front of her kids that she might not see until it was too late.
Jason moved closer to Liz and Aiden. He told her that she was a great mom and that he also understood panic. Ewen entered in time to catch the cozy tableau that they presented. He asked if things were all right. Elizabeth told him about the choking incident.
Jason took Ewen aside and told him that for the record, Elizabeth was very important to him and then left Kelly's. When Ewen sat down with Liz she said that she knew what his conversation with Jason had been about. Ewen said that he had something very important to talk to her about.
Sam took John to the deck at the lake house as a private place where he could calm down. John apologized for the picture that showed them kissing. Sam said that Jason already knew about the kiss. She asked what John planned to do. John said that Natalie had taken his passport and that she was in London, being shielded from John by her father.
John said that he was going to get a new passport, go to London, and straighten things out. Sam held John's hand and asked if she could help out. John removed his hand and stood up. Dante arrived and told John that he was under arrest. At Manning Enterprises, Todd nursed his jaw and said, "Sayonara, John McBain."
8/7 On the porch, Dante arrived to take John into police custody for assaulting Todd. Sam insisted that there had been more to the story, but John explained to Sam that he deserved to be arrested for the assault. Sam decided to ask her mother to represent John, so she promised to catch up with John at the police station.
After Dante and John left, Sam entered the house. Sam explained that John was in trouble, so she asked for Alexis' help. Alexis wondered if it was a good idea, because it might cause more complications for Sam. Sam revealed that the altercation had been a result of a picture of Sam and John that had been sent to John's home. Alexis began to fire questions at Sam, so Sam promised to explain everything in the car on the way to the police station.
At Manning Enterprises, Todd pressed a small bag of ice to his jaw. Moments later, Heather called. Heather thought that Todd had forgotten her, so she warned him that there were consequences for leaving her high and dry. Todd demanded to know what Heather wanted, so Heather agreed to settle for her freedom. Todd explained that his hands were tied.
Heather revealed that she was scheduled to be transferred to Ferncliff, so Todd offered to pull some strings so that she would be taken to Shadybrook. Heather made it clear that she wasn't interested in anything less than having her name cleared and the charges dropped.
"Well, I want a pony," Todd replied. He advised Heather to talk to her attorney, but Heather argued that her lawyer was useless. Todd suggested that she get another one, so Heather agreed to call Téa or Alexis, who might ask Sam to investigate. Todd warned Heather that Jason would kill Heather if Jason found out about the baby switch.
Heather agreed, but she was confident that Jason would kill Todd first. Todd warned Heather that it was in their best interests to keep quiet. "Don't say I didn't warn you," Heather replied, and then disconnected the call. Todd threw the phone across his office in frustration.
Sam reminded Heather that Heather had drugged Steve's girlfriend. Heather argued that things were not as they seemed, especially in Sam's "sad and pathetic little world." Sam laughed because Heather was the one who was headed to Ferncliff, so it was over for Heather. Heather disagreed; things were just beginning, so Heather advised Sam to be careful. Alexis, John, and Sam started to walk away, so Heather revealed that she had information about Sam's baby.
Sam immediately demanded to know what Heather was talking about. Heather refused to say anything until Alexis agreed to represent Heather and get all of the charges dropped. Alexis refused to play Heather's game. Alexis was confident that she could get the charges dropped, but Alexis had no interest in representing a sociopath like Heather. John supported Alexis' decision.
Nearby, Alexis admitted that she was reluctant to take John's case because she didn't need another problem client. Sam urged her mother to reconsider, so Alexis asked if John was going to be a problem. "No ma'am," John replied. "Oh, see, ma'aming me is a problem," Alexis shot back. "
No, Ms. Davis," John assured her. Satisfied, Alexis led John to the interrogation room. After Delores completed the necessary paperwork for Heather's transfer, Delores admitted that she was happy that they had seen the last of Heather. Heather pointedly looked at Sam as Heather warned Delores not to bet on it.
8/8 At the police station, Alexis was on the phone with Sam. Alexis explained that John was still in police custody, prompting Sam to wonder how long John would remain in jail. Alexis appreciated that Sam was concerned, but she advised Sam to stop calling so that Alexis could focus on her job. Sam reluctantly agreed and ended the call.
Moments later, John was escorted into the interrogation room. John was curious if he would get out of jail soon, so Alexis explained that they would have to go after Todd. John was concerned about Alexis representing him because Sonny had her on retainer. Alexis assured John that there wasn't a conflict of interest, since Sonny had not been responsible for John's sister's murder.
John admitted that he was eager to get out of jail so that he could explain things to Natalie. Alexis invited John to practice what he planned to say to Natalie on her, so Alexis could understand why he had kissed Sam. John doubted that anything he might say would satisfy Alexis. Alexis agreed, but she needed full disclosure about the kiss, because, ultimately, the kiss had led to the assault.
John assured Alexis that Todd hadn't sent the picture to Natalie out of concern for Natalie. John insisted that it had been payback. Alexis was curious where John stood with Sam. John explained that he loved Natalie and Liam. Alexis admitted that Jason and Sam loved each other, too, but Sam had confided that John and Sam shared a connection that they couldn't ignore. John agreed.
Alexis suspected that things might have been different if Sam hadn't been in a vulnerable place when John had met Sam. John conceded that Alexis was probably right. Alexis assured John that she was grateful to him for helping Sam, but she wished that it had ended there. John promised that he had never had any intention of getting between Sam and Jason. Alexis appreciated that, but that was exactly what had happened. John wondered if Alexis were suggesting that Sam was considering divorce. Alexis admitted that she didn't know because she had no idea if Sam and Jason could overcome the loss of the baby.
Alexis was thankful that John had been on hand to deliver Sam's baby. John assured Alexis that he cared about Sam, so Alexis was curious what John intended to do about that if things didn't work out with Natalie. Todd entered the interrogation room to announce that he had dropped the charges against John.
Todd made it clear that John had Starr to thank for that decision. Todd had been denied the satisfaction of seeing John sent to jail, but Todd took comfort in knowing that John would have to crawl through life without the woman that John loved, just like Todd.
At the lake house, Kristina overheard Sam on the phone with Alexis. After Sam ended the call, Kristina wondered what Jason had done. Sam clarified that she had been talking about John; she doubted that Jason would ask for her help if he were in trouble. Sam was frustrated because she couldn't believe that John had been forced to spend the night in jail.
Kristina advised Sam to let Alexis work her magic. Sam couldn't relax because Todd might have ended up in the hospital if Sam hadn't been there to stop John, so it had been a brutal attack. Kristina thought that Todd should be grateful that Sam had been there. Sam agreed, but doubted that Todd cared. Kristina advised Sam to go to the police station, but Sam refused because she didn't want to get in the way. Kristina suspected that Sam was afraid to be around John.
Sam insisted that John was just a friend, but Kristina argued that it was clear that Sam cared about John and that those feelings grew stronger the more time that Sam spent with him. Sam couldn't understand why everyone tried to make more of a drunken kiss than there had been. "What's the big deal?" Sam asked in frustration.
Kristina reminded Sam that Sam had admitted that the kiss had been inevitable, but Sam claimed that they had just needed to get it out of their systems. Kristina was curious why, if that were true, John was in Port Charles. Sam explained that John had confronted Todd about the picture, but Kristina pointed out that Sam had barely left John's side.
Kristina explained that a man who cared about his family wouldn't have kissed another woman unless he had feelings for the woman. Kristina added that Sam wouldn't have kissed John if Sam hadn't returned those feelings. Sam reluctantly agreed. However, Sam was confident that John would go to Natalie once he was out of jail.
Kristina advised Sam to examine and sort out her feelings for John and Jason, but Sam didn't know where to start. Kristina suggested that Sam start with Jason. Sam confessed that Jason had tried to talk to her, but things always seemed to go wrong, so Sam wondered if it might be time to consider divorce, even though she still loved Jason.
Kristina insisted that Sam couldn't keep her life on hold, so something had to change. Sam agreed and then changed the subject to ask how Kristina and Trey were doing. Kristina realized that Alexis had told Sam about Kristina's budding relationship with Trey. Kristina explained that she and Trey had only gone out on one date. Sam was curious if Kristina had told Sonny. Kristina decided to catch up with her father at the gym to break the news, so she left.
A short time later, Alexis arrived home. Sam wondered if John had been released from jail. Alexis suggested that Sam ask John and then stepped aside so that John could enter.
8/9 Spinelli was intimidated when he followed Jason into Volonino's Gym and saw the men in the boxing ring. Jason promised that Spinelli wouldn't get hurt. Spinelli tried to relax, as he thanked Jason for his help. Spinelli revealed that he had joined an online dating service. Spinelli confessed that he had fierce competition on the site, but Jason warned Spinelli that many of the profiles probably weren't real.
Spinelli was stunned by the suggestion, because Spinelli would never lie about himself, regardless how desperate he was to find a new love. Spinelli likened himself to a phoenix, rising from the ashes of his failed relationship. Jason tensed slightly at the mention of the phoenix, but he didn't say anything, as he led Spinelli to a punching bag.
Spinelli punched the bag a few times, but it hurt, so Jason decided to show Spinelli how to properly punch the bag. Spinelli tried to hold the bag still for Jason, but went tumbling backwards when Jason struck it. Spinelli quickly stood up and dusted himself. After Spinelli took a firmer hold of the punching bag, Jason began to rain blows on it. Spinelli rambled about Maxie and Matt.
Jason's mind drifted to all of the times that he had caught Sam and John in close moments. Jason's punches became more forceful until Spinelli suggested that Jason take a breather. Jason accidently knocked Spinelli to the ground, when Spinelli stepped in front of Jason to snag Jason's attention. Jason quickly fetched a bag of ice for Spinelli and confessed that his mind had been on John McBain.
Spinelli admitted that he knew about Sam's kiss with John and Jason's kiss with Elizabeth. Jason wondered how, but Spinelli sidestepped the question to point out that the good news was that John was in Llanview. Spinelli insisted that Jason couldn't live in limbo, while Sam drifted further way, so he urged Jason to talk to Sam.
Jason seemed reluctant, so Spinelli offered to be a sounding board, if Jason needed one. Jason didn't want to talk about it. Later, Spinelli returned to the main floor after a shower. Jason was gone, but Spinelli spotted a copy of the Sun on the floor, which made him realize that John was in town.
At Wyndemere, Ewen called out to Jerry. Jerry was annoyed that Ewen had kept him waiting. Ewen insisted that he had responsibilities at the hospital, prompting Jerry to wonder if Elizabeth was one those responsibilities. Ewen assured Jerry that Elizabeth wouldn't be a problem, but Jerry could tell that Ewen was protective of her. Jerry warned Ewen not to get an attack of conscience.
At the lake house, Sam was relieved when she saw John standing in the doorway. Alexis and John explained that Todd had dropped the assault charges. Sam wondered if that meant that John would go to London when his passport became available. John decided to call his contact at the state department, so he excused himself. Sam thanked Alexis for helping John. Alexis admitted that John seemed like an honorable man.
Sam assured her mother that she wanted John to work things out with Natalie, but Alexis was skeptical about Sam's claim, because it was clear to Alexis that something was going on between Sam and John. Alexis warned Sam that Sam would eventually have to deal with it.
Moments later, John returned to the living room. He revealed that Natalie and Liam were in Llanview. Sam decided to walk him out, so that she could say goodbye. John chuckled, because it seemed as if they had spent more time saying goodbye than being apart.
Sam agreed. John turned serious, as he confessed that he would miss her. Sam was certain that John would forget all about her, once he was back with Natalie. John simply repeated himself. Sam and John exchanged a long meaningful look, and then Sam started to apologize. John insisted that she had nothing to be sorry for, because the kiss was on him, so he was responsible for what he was going through with Natalie, not Sam.
Moments later, a process server arrived to hand John an envelope. It was a restraining order. Sam and John showed the restraining order to Alexis, who explained that Clint had sent it, but Natalie had signed it. John was furious, because he realized that it was an attempt to block him for seeing Liam. John was determined to confront Natalie, but Alexis cautioned John not to.
Alexis explained that she had to check the Pennsylvania statutes, but John might have a problem, if he hadn't properly established paternity through the court. John revealed that he had missed the first part of Liam's life, so he refused to miss any more of Liam's childhood. John vowed that Natalie would not get away with it, but Alexis cautioned against acting rashly.
Alexis urged John to stay away from Natalie, until they could get their paperwork in order. John decided to call Clint, but that didn't go well. John ended up yelling at Clint, and then disconnected the call in anger. John explained that Clint had threatened to take Liam away from John.
Sam offered to talk to Natalie, but Alexis warned Sam that it was a terrible idea that would likely backfire. John was livid, so Alexis cautioned John to stay away from Llanview until Alexis could determine what John's custody rights were. John agreed to let Alexis represent him, if she promised to make it possible for him to see Liam. Alexis assured him that she would do her best, and then decided to go to her office to start the paperwork.
In the lake house, Sam promised John that Alexis was a great attorney. John was eager to go to Llanview, but Sam urged John to wait until the court gave him proper visitation; otherwise, he might lose Liam forever. John felt bad, because Sam had really lost her son. Sam assured John that she was okay and reiterated that he wouldn't lose Liam. Sam hugged John, just as Jason appeared in the open doorway.
8/10 At Wyndemere, Alexis' eyes rounded with fear when Jerry cornered Alexis as she desperately tried to find a way to escape. Alexis struggled in his arms, but Jerry easily overpowered her as he covered her nose and mouth with the handkerchief. Meanwhile, Ewen silently slipped into Carly's house.
At the lake house, Jason wondered what was going on when he saw Sam and John hug. Sam pulled away as she assured Jason that things were not as they seemed. Sam explained that John was there because Alexis had agreed to represent John. Sam revealed that John had been arrested for assaulting Todd because Todd had sent a picture of John and Sam kissing to Natalie.
Jason was curious how Todd had managed to get the picture, but Sam insisted that it didn't matter. Jason wondered how Natalie had reacted to the picture, so John revealed that Natalie had taken Liam and left. Jason pointed out that John was the one who had been caught with Sam, so he was curious why John had blamed Todd. Sam assured Jason that the kiss hadn't meant anything, but Jason was curious if John felt the same way.
John agreed with Sam, so Sam revealed that John was eager to work things out with Natalie. Jason admitted that he wasn't there because of that, so John decided that it was his cue to leave. Sam urged John not to do anything rash that might jeopardize John's bid for custody. John wished Sam good luck and then left.
Sam assured Jason that she didn't want to make things more difficult for him, so she invited him to speak his mind. Jason reminded her that they needed to make a decision about their future. Sam noticed that Jason wasn't wearing his wedding ring, so Jason pulled it out of his pocket. He offered to put it back on if she wanted to work on their marriage. Sam tearfully confessed that she loved him, but she didn't know if that would be enough to save their marriage.
Jason regretted hurting Sam by not accepting the baby and sending men after John. He assured her that he had never wanted the baby to be gone. Jason grieved for the child and admitted that he would give his life for her to have her son back. Jason insisted that he was willing to try to make their marriage work. "Can you forgive me?" he asked.
Sam realized that she was supposed to say yes, but she confessed that she didn't know if she could ever forgive him, because whenever she saw a baby, the pain was a fresh as the day that her son had died. Sam admitted that things might have been different if her baby had survived because then she might have been able to see the love in Jason's eyes when he held her son. Sam confessed that her friendship with John might also pose a problem. Sam refused to turn her back on John because she felt responsible for the mess that John was in. She vowed not to let John lose his son too.
Sam wondered if Jason could accept John as a part of Sam's life. "I don't know," Jason confessed. Sam took his hands in hers as she tearfully admitted that she had once loved Jason's honesty. She wished that things could be different. Jason realized that they couldn't go back and change things, but they couldn't move forward either. Sam and Jason let go of each other's hands as Sam tearfully begged Jason to say the words, because she couldn't. "We need to get a divorce," Jason said.
8/13 At the Lake house, Sam and Jason decided to divorce. Each worried about how the other would be affected as they tried to figure out how to separate their lives. Jason said that as he recalled his divorce from Brenda, the legal procedure was fairly simple. Sam told Jason that it had been easy to divorce Benda because his marriage to her had not been real.
Sam said that her relationship with Jason was real and she did not want to forget how much she and Jason had meant to each other. Sam asked Jason if Alexis could handle the divorce proceedings. Jason told Sam to take anything that she wanted. Sam said that she did not want anything of Jason's. Wryly, Jason said it would be the easiest divorce in history. Sam wondered out loud why they were doing it.
Jason responded that he thought that Sam wanted the divorce. Jason asked what they should do instead. Sam considered a trial separation and asked if Jason would go to marriage counseling. Jason jumped at the chance and said that he would do anything to save their marriage.
Sam got wishy-washy and said that her dilemma was that she could not forgive Jason, and she could not stop loving him either. Jason told Sam that he would rather let her go than to hurt her further. Sam replied that Jason was hurting also. Sam added that she knew that she was punishing Jason and had to stop before she destroyed everything that they had once had. Sam and Jason agreed that under the circumstances, they had to divorce.
Sam said that she did not know how to say goodbye, and she wished that it did not have to be all or nothing for them. Sam told Jason that she was not just losing her husband; she was losing her best friend. Jason agreed with her. Jason told Sam that even if they could not stay friends, he would never stop wanting her happiness. Sam said that she wished the same for Jason.
Sam was crying when she told Jason that she was sorry and that they needed to say the words for the words to be real. Jason became teary-eyed as he and Sam exchanged goodbyes. Sam grabbed Jason's hand and said, "Wait." They embraced and held each other for a long moment.
Sam and Jason looked deeply into each other's eyes and then kissed. As they did, both recalled their memorable moments together, the time that Sam was pregnant with Sonny's baby, their first kiss, the first time Jason had told Sam that he loved her, the many times they had made love, fun times, happy times, and their wedding. They broke apart and moved away from each other. Jason said he loved Sam, and Sam said that she loved Jason. Jason's eyes held tears. He looked back through the window as he left and saw Sam sitting on the sofa, crying quietly.
Carly and Johnny went upstairs to Carly's bedroom while Ewen snuck inside Josslyn's room. Ewen grabbed Josslyn, and left Carly's home without being seen.
A chloroformed Alexis lay on a sofa at Wyndemere. Jerry told the sleeping Alexis that she would not believe him but that he had never wanted any harm to come to her. Jerry opened a padded case containing vials and needles, took out a syringe, and told Alexis that he did not have a choice as he injected her with a mystery drug. Jerry told her that things would not be simple but that he would look out for her as best he could.
Ewen arrived with a sleeping Josslyn. Jerry kissed her on top of her head and called her a "little angel." Ewen assured Jerry that he had left no trace. Ewen said that he had delivered Robin to Switzerland and Josslyn to Jerry, and wanted out of his deal with Jerry before anyone else got hurt.
Then Ewen noticed Alexis and asked Jerry what he had done. Ewen seemed surprised to find that Alexis was still alive. Jerry said that he was not a monster. Ewen wanted to know why Jerry was hurting so many innocent people and stopped Jerry when he tried to give Josslyn an injection of the same drug he had given Alexis.
Jerry told Ewen that he was vastly uninformed. Jerry said that he was not after money or ransom. Jerry told Ewen that he was more trouble than he was worth and that if Ewen wanted out, Jerry would be glad to let him out, right after Jerry told Elizabeth about Ewen's ties to Jerry. Ewen cautioned Jerry to leave Elizabeth alone. Jerry told Ewen that he was tedious and that Elizabeth would remain in the dark as long as Ewen continued to cooperate. Jerry took the syringe from Ewen and gave Josslyn an injection of the same mystery drug he had administered to Alexis.
Carly checked on Josslyn and found her missing. Carly called Dante, who was busy with Lulu and did not see the message on his phone. Carly started to panic, and Johnny said he would check the yard on the off chance that Josslyn had somehow wandered outside. Carly was on the phone with the police, giving a description of Josslyn, when Johnny rushed in with Josslyn in his arms.
Carly asked Josslyn if she was okay. Johnny said that he had found Josslyn curled up and asleep next to the swing set in the back yard. Johnny asked if Josslyn had ever had a sleepwalking experience. Carly said that she had not. Outside the front door, Ewen showed regret as he walked away.
At Wyndemere, Alexis awoke on the sofa and did not remember why she was there or that Jerry had been waiting for her with chloroform. As she left, Alexis mumbled that she hated the place. Jerry was lurking near the door and had a coughing fit after Alexis left. Jerry whispered that he had to admit that he had not thought that Alexis would fight so hard, but promised Alexis that she and Josslyn would have what they needed.
8/14 At Wyndemere, Jerry opened a briefcase that was filled with vials and a syringe. Moments later, Jerry began to cough violently, so he covered his mouth with a handkerchief. Afterwards, Jerry noticed that there was blood on the handkerchief. He quickly tucked the bloody cloth away when he heard Ewen call out to him.
Jerry closed the briefcase as Ewen entered the parlor, but Ewen saw the contents of the briefcase. Ewen revealed that he wanted to talk about what had transpired at Wyndemere the previous evening. Jerry was confident that Josslyn would think that it had been a dream, but Ewen was uncomfortable with what Jerry had done to Alexis and Josslyn. Ewen demanded to know what was in the vials that Jerry had in the briefcase, but Jerry refused to tell Ewen.
Ewen feared that he might face possible murder charges if anything happened to Alexis or Josslyn. Jerry suggested that a little mystery kept life interesting, but Ewen was not amused. Jerry assured Ewen that everything would soon become clear, but Ewen argued that he had made an oath to do no harm. Jerry warned Ewen that it was too late, so he advised Ewen to relax.
Jerry decided fetch some tea, so Ewen seized the opportunity to pry open the briefcase. Ewen managed to snatch a vial as Jerry returned to the parlor. "Can I help you with that?" Jerry casually asked. Ewen threatened to have the contents of the vial tested, but Jerry assured Ewen that it wasn't necessary. Jerry grabbed the vial, and then drank its contents.
Ewen was stunned as Jerry revealed that the vial contained plain water. Ewen wondered why Jerry would have water in the vials, so Jerry explained that he had wanted to make it clear to Ewen that he would always be one step ahead of Ewen. Disgusted, Ewen made it clear that he refused to be involved in anything that harmed a child. Jerry gave his word that Alexis and Josslyn wouldn't get hurt, but Ewen didn't believe Jerry.
Jason stopped by to visit Carly. Carly warmly greeted Jason and then told him about Josslyn's strange disappearance. Carly suspected that Josslyn had been sleepwalking, even though Josslyn had never done it before. Jason wondered if perhaps Jax had been responsible for Josslyn's brief disappearance, but Carly doubted that Jax would leave Josslyn alone by the swingset.
Carly decided to question Josslyn about the incident, but Josslyn couldn't explain how she had ended up outside in the middle of the night. Jason and Carly agreed that Josslyn seemed okay, so they decided to let the matter drop. Jason revealed that he and Sam had decided to get a divorce. Carly was stunned. She wanted to track down Sam have a talk with Sam, but Jason insisted that Carly leave it alone.
Carly was upset, because Sam had walked out on Jason at the first sign of trouble, despite Sam's assurances that Sam could accept Jason as he was. Carly insisted that Jason was a good man, so Sam should have known that Jason would love the baby, instead of "shacking up with John McBain." Carly hated that Sam always painted herself as the victim.
Jason explained that he and Sam had made the choice to stop hurting each other. According to Jason, his marriage to Sam was beyond repair. Carly was certain that Jason still loved Sam, so she wondered if he really wanted a divorce. Jason made it clear that his marriage to Sam was over. Carly saw the truth in Jason's eyes, so she backed down. She decided to cheer Jason up by inviting Josslyn to give Jason a hug.
Carly became alarmed when she noticed a red mark on Josslyn's arm after the hug. Jason thought that it might be a bug bite, but Carly reminded Jason that Josslyn was on anti-rejection medication because of the kidney transplant. Jason suggested that they take Josslyn to the hospital to be checked out. A short time later, Jason, Carly, and Josslyn approached the nurses' station to ask Steve to take a look at Josslyn's arm.
At the lake house, Sam was standing on the porch, thinking about her last kiss with Jason when Alexis entered in the living room. Sam became concerned, because Alexis looked ill. Alexis explained that she was tired, even though she had slept well. Sam knew about the alarm at Wyndemere, so she was curious if things were okay at the castle. "Actually, I don't think things are okay at all," Alexis confessed.
Alexis revealed that she had passed out shortly after her arrival on Spoon Island. Alexis recalled waking up on the sofa but didn't remember seeing anyone or talking to anyone. Sam thought that it was odd, but Alexis decided to chalk it up to Wyndemere being cursed. Alexis fetched a cup of coffee and then joined her daughter on the sofa. Alexis was curious if Sam had heard from John, so Sam explained that John was staying at the Rendezvous Motel.
Alexis was relieved that John hadn't gone back to Llanview, so she promised to make John's case a priority. Sam confessed that she needed Alexis' help with another case. Sam revealed that Jason had stopped by to talk about their marriage and that they had decided to get a divorce. Sam explained that she had tried to get past what had happened, but her marriage to Jason was broken beyond repair.
Alexis wondered if perhaps John had been a part of why Sam's marriage to Jason had failed. "Yes," Sam conceded. Sam explained that Jason had sensed the connection between Sam and John, which had provoked Jason and led to Jason's decision to send the thugs after John on the night of her son's birth. Alexis was curious if Sam would still want a divorce if John weren't at the motel.
Sam assured her mother that it wouldn't make a difference, because every time Sam looked at Jason, Sam saw the man who had abandoned Sam when Sam needed Jason the most. Alexis held Sam as Sam cried. Sam couldn't believe that her marriage was over. Alexis appreciated that Sam didn't want to drag things out, so Alexis promised to take care of everything.
Sam made it clear that she didn't want anything from Jason, including alimony. Alexis had reservations about Diane representing Jason, because Diane had a tendency to make things difficult, but Alexis vowed to make the whole process as painless as possible for Sam. Alexis decided to go to her office to get things started, but only managed to take a few steps before she collapsed. Sam rushed to her mother's side.
8/15 In the Atlantic City jail, Jerry approached Joe's cell. Joe smiled. "About time you got here," Joe said. Jerry admitted that it had been a long time. Joe insisted that he had been wrongly accused of a crime he hadn't committed, but Jerry knew better. Jerry made a point of thoroughly researching his associates, so Jerry knew that Joe had murdered John McBain's sister.
Joe pointed out that he couldn't give Jerry what Jerry needed if Joe remained locked up. Jerry promised to take care of things for a price. Jerry revealed that he had recently made a body disappear "like magic," so Jerry intended to perform his "ultimate feat," with Joe's help. Joe was more interested in how Jerry intended to get Joe out of jail.
Jerry assured Joe that everything was going according to schedule, so Joe was curious if Jerry was working for someone. Jerry admitted that he was self-employed, which was why Jerry needed Joe to recruit some men for Jerry. Joe warned Jerry that it wouldn't be easy, because the last group of men that Joe had assembled for Jerry had perished during the Metro Court hostage crisis years earlier. Jerry started to leave, but Joe stopped Jerry with a promise to set everything up. Satisfied, Jerry took steps to arrange for Jerry's release.
Joe was pleased when Jerry assured him that Joe would be a free man in a short time. Jerry explained that they would be taking a boat to Spoon Island, which was off the coast of Port Charles. Joe smiled with satisfaction because it was Sonny's neck of the woods. Jerry added that he and Joe would be staying at Wyndemere.
At the lake house, Sam rushed to her mother's side when Alexis fainted. Moments later, John arrived to discuss his case with Alexis. He quickly went to Alexis' aid, while Sam called for an ambulance. John noticed the pinprick mark on Alexis' arm.
At the nurses' station, Carly asked Steve to check Josslyn's arm. Steve suggested that they go to an examination room, so Carly asked Jason to wait. After Carly and Steve walked away, Elizabeth spotted Jason. Jason told her that Carly had been concerned about a red mark on Josslyn's arm. Elizabeth agreed that it was better to have it checked out because of Josslyn's medical history. However, Elizabeth sensed that something else was troubling Jason.
Jason admitted that he and Sam had decided to get a divorce. Elizabeth felt bad for Jason, but Jason explained that it was for the best, because holding onto the marriage had hurt worse. Elizabeth was curious if Sam still blamed Jason for what had happened to Sam's baby.
Jason nodded and suggested that the divorce would give him and Sam closure and free Sam. Elizabeth wondered if Sam truly wanted that. Jason admitted that he didn't know, because other things and people had gotten in the way.
Moments later, Alexis arrived by ambulance, followed by Sam and John. Sam stared at Jason as the paramedics quickly filled Elizabeth in on Alexis' symptoms and vitals. Elizabeth ordered the paramedics to take Alexis to one of the examination rooms, while she fetched a doctor. Sam followed Alexis' gurney, while John lingered in the waiting area with Jason.
John explained that he had gone to the lake house to talk to Alexis about his case, but Jason assured John that it wasn't any of Jason's business. John was surprised by Jason's attitude, so Jason revealed that he and Sam had decided to get a divorce. "I didn't know," John quietly admitted.
"Well, now you know," Jason replied. John was curious why Jason was at the hospital. Jason revealed that he was there with Carly because Carly's daughter appeared to have had a reaction to a small bug bite on her arm. John revealed that Alexis had a similar mark on her arm.
In the examination room, Steve carefully studied the mark on Josslyn's arm as Carly told him about Josslyn's "sleepwalking" episode. Steve admitted that the redness, swelling, and pinprick contusion were consistent with a bug bite, but he was concerned about Josslyn's slight fever, so he decided to run some tests.
Steve was curious how long Josslyn had been sleepwalking, so Carly explained that it appeared to have been the first time. She hoped that it was the last, because she couldn't help but think about what Elizabeth had gone through with Jake.
In another examination room, Elizabeth gave Dr. Rashi a brief overview of Alexis' symptoms and vitals. Dr. Rashi questioned Sam about Alexis' medical history, so Sam explained that Alexis had been healthy since battling lung cancer a few years earlier. However, Sam admitted that Alexis had fainted more than once in the past twenty-four hours.
Jason spotted Steve, so he asked about Josslyn. Steve assured Jason that they were running tests. Jason revealed that Alexis had arrived with a similar mark on her arm, so Steve decided to check on Alexis.
Sam went to the waiting area to update John and Jason on Alexis' condition. John's interest was piqued when Sam mentioned that Alexis had had a fainting spell the previous evening when Alexis had gone to Wyndemere.
John questioned Sam about the incident and asked her for the name of the security company that had called Alexis. Moments later, Kristina and Michael arrived, so Sam took her sister to see their mother. Meanwhile, Jason told Michael that Josslyn had been admitted to the hospital.
Later, Elizabeth became concerned when she noted that Alexis' temperature had gone up a degree. Steve decided to run some blood tests, because the pinprick mark on Alexis' arm looked like the one that Josslyn had. Moments later, Sam and Kristina entered the room. The sisters were relieved when Alexis slowly opened her eyes. Sam promised Alexis that they would find out why Alexis kept fainting.
Meanwhile, John admitted to Jason that things didn't add up. John explained that he had called the security company, but no one there had called Alexis. John suspected that someone had lured Alexis to Wyndemere, so he was curious who Alexis and Josslyn had in common. Jason doubted that it was one of Sonny's associates or any of the Cassadines. John was certain that the red marks on Alexis and Josslyn's arms were a clue.
John spotted Elizabeth, so he introduced himself, and then asked her to let Sam know that he had to leave. Jason overheard John, so he waited until Elizabeth walked away to ask John if John knew how to get to Wyndemere. John was confident that he could find a way, but Jason warned John that John would need a boat. Jason offered to take John to Spoon Island, because Jason didn't think that it was a coincidence that Josslyn had wandered out of the house on the same night that Alexis had been lured to Wyndemere.
8/16 At Wyndemere, John was surprised when Jason produced a set of keys to unlock the front door. Jason explained that his sister, Emily, had been married to Nikolas Cassadine. John and Jason entered the castle, as they tried to figure out who might have lured Alexis to Wyndemere the previous evening, and what the person's connection might be to Josslyn.
John and Jason were startled when Ewen suddenly appeared in the doorway. Ewen claimed that he had received a call from the security company, informing him that the alarm had been tripped. Ewen had decided to check it out, because he had some things in storage at Wyndemere.
John explained that Alexis had received a similar call from the security company the previous evening, so he was curious why Ewen had waited until morning to investigate. Ewen claimed that he hadn't checked his messages until earlier that morning. John asked to see Ewen's phone, because the security company didn't have a record of the alarm being tripped.
Ewen clarified that the message had been left on Ewen's office phone. John was confident that the police would be able to trace the call. Jason revealed that Alexis and Josslyn were in the hospital after falling victim to a mystery illness, so he wondered how Ewen was feeling.
Ewen assured both men that he was fine. John and Jason fired questions at Ewen to ascertain if Ewen might have had anything to do with Alexis and Josslyn's illnesses. Ewen was clearly nervous, so he wished them well in their endeavors, and then left. John and Jason were certain that Ewen had been hiding something.
They noted that Wyndemere looked like someone was living there. Jason wanted to look around, but John didn't think that it was a good idea because the place might be contaminated. John suggested that they call the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention or a local company experienced in dealing with biohazardous situations to make certain that Wyndemere was safe.
Moments later, John's phone rang. It was the district attorney in Atlantic City. After John ended the call, he explained that someone had pushed for a hearing to get Joe Scully released from jail, so John needed to get to Atlantic City. Jason agreed to take John back to Port Charles.
In Atlantic City, Joe wanted details about Jerry's job so that Joe could furnish Jerry with the right personnel. Jerry refused to tell Joe anything until it was necessary. Joe wanted to at least know what the target was. "Not what, who," Jerry cryptically revealed. Jerry explained that the target had been hard to kill in the past, so Jerry's main objective was to cheat death once again.
Joe warned Jerry not to get too cocky, because it could lead to mistakes. Jerry found it laughable for Joe to dispense advice from behind bars, because Joe had ended up at the mercy of Sonny with no one to turn to except for Jerry. "Not necessarily," Joe replied smugly.
Jerry was curious if Joe was referring to Joe's son, whom Joe believed no one knew about. Joe's smile faded when Jerry asked how Trey was doing. Joe demanded to know how Jerry knew about Trey, so Jerry reminded Joe that Jerry made a point of knowing everything about his associates.
Joe warned Jerry not to hurt Trey. Jerry was curious if Trey realized to what extent Joe was using his son or how far Joe was willing to go to destroy anything Corinthos. Before Joe could reply, a guard announced that it was Joe's lucky day, because Joe was about to be released. After Joe was led away to be processed, Jerry had another violent coughing fit. Moments later, Ewen called.
Ewen revealed that Alexis and Josslyn were in the hospital, so Ewen demanded to know what Jerry had injected them with. Jerry made it clear that it wasn't any of Ewen's concern, but revealed that he had been keeping tabs on Alexis and Josslyn. Ewen was curious if Jerry had been monitoring Wyndemere too, because John and Jason were there. Jerry tensed as he demanded to know what Ewen had told John and Jason. Jerry was furious when Ewen recounted the conversation, because Ewen had slipped up by claiming that the security company had left Ewen a message.
Ewen suggested that Jerry might have thought about that before Jerry had lured Alexis to Wyndemere. Jerry didn't have time for regrets because he had to move up the timetable for his plans. Ewen was more concerned about reversing whatever Jerry had injected Alexis and Josslyn with. Jerry warned Ewen that it would be unwise, as well as futile, to attempt.
After Jerry ended the call, Joe walked up. Joe was pleased to be wearing his street clothes again. Shortly after Jerry and Joe left, John arrived. John was stunned that Joe had managed to walk away from the murder charges. The guard agreed that it was astounding.
At Wyndemere, Joe was impressed with the antique furnishings. However, he was curious if Jerry was concerned that Jason might return. Jerry explained that they would only be there long enough to finalize the arrangements. Joe wondered what Jerry was talking about, so Jerry opened up his briefcase to reveal vials of an unknown substance.
In Alexis' hospital room, Alexis complained that she was dizzy. Sam assured her mother that the doctors were running tests to find out what was wrong with Alexis. Kristina decided to call Molly to let her know about Alexis, but Alexis wanted Molly to enjoy her day with T.J. Kristina insisted that Molly had a right to know what was going on, so she stepped out of the room to make the call. Sam took the opportunity to question Alexis about the fainting spells and Alexis' trip to Wyndemere.
Alexis' memory was fuzzy. Alexis recalled arriving at Wyndemere, but little else. Sam was curious about the bug bite on Alexis' arm. Alexis had no idea when it had happened, but she assumed that a spider had bitten her at Wyndemere. Sam suggested that it might be something altogether different, so she wondered if Alexis remembered anything, like sounds or smells at the castle. Alexis seemed to recall something, but the memory quickly faded, so Sam urged her mother to get some rest.
Steve explained that Alexis and Josslyn had the same illness. Steve revealed that it didn't appear to be contagious, but they didn't know how to treat it. Carly and Sam were stunned when Steve confessed that Alexis and Josslyn had likely been injected with the virus, so he had sent blood samples to another facility to be tested.
Moments later, Jason joined the group, so Carly and Sam quickly filled him in on what Steve had told them. Jason couldn't believe that someone had deliberately injected Alexis and Josslyn. Nearby, Ewen eavesdropped on the conversation.
8/17 At Wyndemere, Joe was surprised when Jerry revealed that Kristina's mother, Alexis, had been keeping an eye on the castle for her nephew, Nikolas. Jerry assured Joe that Alexis was a lovely woman, and then confessed that Jerry's accomplice had kidnapped Jerry's niece, Josslyn, so that Jerry could inject Alexis and Josslyn with a chemical toxin that had them very sick.
Joe was curious if Alexis and Josslyn would survive the illness. Jerry smiled wickedly, because he was certain that the doctors at General Hospital were chasing their tails in an effort to figure out what was going on with Alexis and Josslyn. Joe wondered where he fit into Jerry's plans, but Jerry didn't have an opportunity to reply because Ewen called.
At the nurses' station, Ewen eavesdropped as Steve explained that Alexis and Josslyn had been intentionally injected with an unknown toxin. Steve hoped that the medications would keep Alexis and Josslyn's fevers down, so that their bodies could fight off their illnesses. Carly and Sam were visibly shaken by the grim news. Jason confessed that he suspected that someone had kidnapped Josslyn and then had spirited the tyke to Wyndemere, where Alexis and Josslyn had been injected with the toxin. Carly decided to call Jax to let him know what was going on.
Sam couldn't understand why someone would target Alexis and Josslyn. Jason spotted Ewen standing at the nurses' station, so he thought perhaps Ewen could enlighten them. Ewen suggested that Jason was projecting because Jason was upset.
Elizabeth and Sam were startled when Jason revealed that Ewen had shown up at Wyndemere while Jason and John had been looking around for answers about what might be ailing Alexis and Josslyn. Ewen explained that he had once lived there, so the security company had called him to report that an alarm had been triggered. Jason argued that the security company hadn't had a record of the call to Alexis, so it had been a fake.
Molly, T.J., and Shawn arrived. Sam quickly led them to Alexis' hospital room. Elizabeth was relieved that Ewen hadn't gone to Wyndemere the previous evening, because Ewen might have been injected too. Ewen claimed that he had a patient to see, so he quickly excused himself. Elizabeth reiterated that Ewen had been lucky. "You sure it's luck?" Jason asked. "Aren't you?" Elizabeth wondered.
Elizabeth was shocked that Jason would accuse Ewen of lying. Jason insisted that Ewen had lied, because it didn't make sense that Ewen would get the same fake call about the alarm at Wyndemere as Alexis had. Elizabeth pointed out that it was just as odd that Alexis and Josslyn, who were completely unconnected, had been injected with the same mystery toxin.
Jason was certain that Ewen was involved in some way, but Elizabeth argued that Ewen was a doctor, so Ewen would never hurt anyone, much less a child. Jason warned her that there were too many inconsistencies, starting with the night that Ewen had fished her out of the water. Elizabeth pointed out that Ewen had saved her life, but Jason argued that Ewen had covered it up. Jason was certain that Ewen was doing the same thing again.
Elizabeth wondered if Jason might be focused on Ewen because Jason wanted to be Sam's hero by saving Alexis. Jason reminded Elizabeth that Josslyn had been injected too. Elizabeth immediately apologized. She appreciated that Jason was worried, but she suspected that Ewen had been right to accuse Jason of projecting, because Jason felt powerless to help Alexis and Josslyn.
Elizabeth realized that Jason didn't like Ewen, but Jason clarified that he didn't trust the doctor. Jason was certain that she felt the same way. Elizabeth insisted that she liked Ewen, so Jason advised her to be careful. Elizabeth assured Jason that she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself, so it wasn't necessary for Jason to protect her.
Ewen called Jerry to let him know that people were onto Jerry. Ewen explained that the doctors had determined that Alexis and Josslyn had been injected with a chemical toxin and that Jason had traced it back to Wyndemere. Jerry wasn't concerned because the doctors didn't know what Alexis and Josslyn had been given nor did anyone know that Jerry was in town. Jerry explained that he had a guest at Wyndemere, so he ordered Ewen to leave him alone and then ended the call.
Jason saw Ewen growl with frustration as Ewen tucked the phone away. Jason wondered why Ewen wasn't with the patient that Ewen had left to see. Ewen claimed that he patient had called to cancel the appointment. Ewen spotted Steve, so he quickly asked Steve how Alexis and Josslyn were doing. Steve explained that all they could do was wait. Moments later, Sam fetched Steve to see if there was something that he could do for Alexis.
Molly, T.J., Shawn, and Sam entered Alexis’ room. Molly began to cry when she saw her mother. Dr. Rashi wanted to have a private word with Alexis' daughters, so T.J., Shawn, and Trey left. Dr. Rashi explained that Alexis' health was deteriorating, so she was in danger of organ failure and brain damage. Sam comforted her weeping sisters, and then decided to talk to Steve, to see if he could help Alexis.
Steve checked Alexis' vitals as Sam, Kristina, and Molly stood at the foot of their mother's bed. Steve confessed that nothing more could be done for Alexis. Sam wondered how much time their mother had left. "Not long," Steve admitted. Molly broke down sobbing, so Sam and Kristina tearfully tried to comfort her. Moments later, the alarms sounded as Alexis' condition took a turn for the worse.
At Wyndemere, Joe was furious that Jerry had made Alexis sick because it had upset Trey. Jerry assured Joe that it would soon be over. Jerry remarked that people thought that it was a tragedy to die young, but Jerry disagreed. "To die when you know what death means, when all the illusions are stripped away and you realize that you're really quite frightened after all, that's the tragedy," Jerry added.
Joe wondered if Jerry were suggesting that Alexis' death counted more than Josslyn's. Jerry glanced at his watch as he remarked that everything should be ending soon. Joe was curious if Jerry meant that Alexis and Josslyn would die. Jerry assured Joe that he would never do anything to harm Josslyn or Alexis.
At the hospital, loved ones were overjoyed when Alexis and Josslyn's fevers suddenly broke and they opened their eyes. Meanwhile, Jerry explained to Joe that Alexis and Josslyn had been given vaccinations to protect them. "From what?" Joe wondered. Jerry showed Joe one of the vials from Jerry's briefcase. "What I'm about to unleash on everyone else in Port Charles," Jerry revealed.
8/20 At GH, Jason caught up to Spinelli as he was about to deliver flowers to Alexis and a large teddy bear to Josslyn. Jason herded Spinelli into the chapel and told Spinelli that he had a job for him. Spinelli listened in amazement as Jason explained to him that both Alexis and Josslyn had been injected with the same substance at the same time, apparently at Wyndemere.
Spinelli played devil's advocate when Jason suggested that Dr. Ewen Keenan was involved and detailed why he suspected the good doctor. Eventually Spinelli said that he trusted Jason's instinct and would do whatever Jason wanted him to do.
Jason told Spinelli to investigate Ewen fully. Jason said to check bank records, personal records and any link between Alexis and Josslyn. Spinelli said that he would get started if Jason would deliver the teddy bear and flowers in Spinelli's stead.
At Wyndemere, Jerry offered Scully coffee, but Scully wanted answers instead. Jerry acquiesced and showed Scully a small suitcase containing several canisters. Jerry said that the canisters contained a potent chemical capable of killing everyone in PC except for Alexis, Josslyn, and Jerry, who had received inoculations. Jerry said that everyone else was expendable. Scully said that his son was not expendable. He added that he had not agreed to let his son die. Jerry told Scully that if he wanted to save his son, he should get him out of Port Charles.
Jason and McBain met up at General Hospital. Jason said that he had no leads on whoever had injected Josslyn and Alexis. John told Jason that Scully was out of jail, and Sonny might soon be calling on Jason to locate Scully
At Wyndemere, Jerry started coughing while looking at his medical records. He swallowed a pill from a prescription bottle.
8/22 At the lake house, Sam apologized for having kept John waiting. She handed him an envelope as she explained that Alexis had arranged for an associate at the law firm to draw up a petition to lift Natalie's restraining order. John was surprised that Alexis had thought about his situation, given how sick Alexis had been.
Sam admitted that she had reminded her mother to take care of it. Sam confessed that she felt responsible for John's troubles, so she was determined to help him in any way that she could. Sam didn't think that it was fair of Natalie to use Liam against John and to deny John an opportunity to explain himself.
John confessed that he hadn't told Natalie about the kiss because he couldn't assure Natalie that he hadn't meant to kiss Sam. John admitted that it had taken every ounce of his will to pull away from the kiss. Sam reminded John that they had been in a bad place, but John argued that he would have been lying if he had told Natalie that, because the kiss had meant something to him.
Sam was curious what John planned to do next, so John explained that he was determined to fight because he had never thought that Natalie would use their son to hurt him. Sam realized that she had it easy compared to John, because Jason wouldn't contest their divorce.
She immediately apologized because it had sounded as if she had been letting John know that she would soon be free. Sam realized that was probably too soon. John agreed, but he warned her that they would have to have that conversation one day. "I know," Sam quietly admitted.
8/23 Elizabeth lit candles, as she waited for Ewen to arrive for their date. She thought about her talk with Jason and Jason's admission that he didn't trust Ewen.
Meanwhile, Jerry called out to Ewen as Ewen was about to knock on Elizabeth's front door. Jerry noticed the bottle of wine in Ewen's hand, so he assumed that Ewen intended to "seal the deal" with Elizabeth. Ewen revealed that the police were looking for the person responsible for what had happened to Alexis and Josslyn, so it wouldn't be a good idea for Ewen and Jerry to be seen together. Jerry warned Ewen not to say anything to Elizabeth.
At Pozzulo's, Jason left a message for Spinelli to return his call because Jason wanted to know what Spinelli had learned about Ewen. Moments later, Sonny entered the restaurant. Jason sensed that something was troubling Sonny, so Sonny revealed that Joe had dropped by. Sonny told Jason about Joe's release from jail and Kate's reaction to the news. Jason wondered if Sonny wanted Jason to do anything about Joe, so Sonny instructed Jason to leave Joe alone.
Sonny intended to personally take care of Joe when the time was right. Jason was curious why Joe was in town, so Sonny explained that Joe had claimed it was business. Sonny and Jason agreed that they needed to find out what Joe's business was. Moments later, Spinelli burst through the door and announced that he had found a connection between Alexis, Josslyn, and Ewen. Sonny was not pleased to hear that Jason and Spinelli had been digging into Ewen's background because Ewen had been instrumental in helping Kate.
Jason explained that he had concerns about Ewen because Ewen had shown up at Wyndemere when Jason had gone to Spoon Island to look for clues about who might have injected Alexis and Josslyn with the life-threatening toxin. Sonny wondered what Spinelli had uncovered, so Spinelli began to babble about how Ewen had put himself through medical school in Australia by sheering sheep.
Eventually, Sonny ordered Spinelli to get to the point. Spinelli explained that Ewen had excelled in medical school, so Ewen had had his choice of psychiatric residencies in Australia, but Ewen had opted to go Anchorage. Spinelli wondered if Jason and Sonny thought that it was odd that an Australian had moved to Alaska.
"Just like Jax," Jason replied. Jason was curious if Spinelli had found a connection between Ewen and the Jacks family. Spinelli explained that it was yet to be determined, while Sonny admitted that he had hoped never to hear Jax's name again. Jason was certain that it wasn't a coincidence that both Ewen and Jax had left Australia to live in Alaska.
Sonny wanted proof that Ewen was connected to what had happened to Alexis and Josslyn before anyone made a move against Ewen. Jason ordered Spinelli to go to Alaska to dig for more information. "Alaska? Like, 'I can see Russia from here'?" Spinelli asked. Jason explained that he wanted Spinelli to find a link between Ewen and Jax.
Jerry arrived. Joe hustled Jerry into the room, and then shut the door. Joe couldn't believe that Jerry had taken such a huge risk by returning to the hotel that had once been the scene of one of Jerry's infamous crimes. Jerry insisted that he knew the hotel like the back of his hand, so he wasn't concerned about anyone seeing him. Jerry was curious if Joe had managed to get Trey out of town, so Joe admitted that, with any luck, Trey was long gone.
Jerry was pleased when Joe assured him that the team was in place and awaiting Jerry's orders. Jerry revealed that he had the perfect method to ensure that the pathogen entered everyone's blood stream, so he wanted Joe and the team to meet him at the reservoir later that evening. Joe was curious if Jerry was certain that the plan would work, so Jerry admitted that he had once used a similar toxin on Nikolas Cassadine with satisfactory results. Joe wondered how Jax would feel about what Jerry had done to Josslyn and Alexis.
Jerry confessed that he had taken steps to make certain that Jax was stranded on the other side of the world. However, Jerry was confident that Jax wouldn't be concerned because Jax would soon receive word that Josslyn would make a full recovery. Joe demanded that Jerry give him a vaccine, so Jerry assured Joe that Joe was covered. After Jerry left, Joe wondered what he had gotten himself into. Moments later, Joe received a text message from Trey revealing that Trey and Kristina were on a plane. "At least one of us is safe," Joe mumbled.
Jerry appeared in the hallway, unaware that Jax was in the next room. Jerry called a mystery person to report that the plan had been put into motion. However, Jerry warned the person not to violate their agreement, or Jerry would go after the person with everything that he had, because Jerry had nothing to lose.
8/24 Jason arrived at Elizabeth’s house the next morning. Jason explained that he needed to talk to Elizabeth about Ewen. "Did I hear my name?" Ewen asked as he appeared on the staircase without a shirt.
Jason looked away to hide his annoyance. Elizabeth explained that Jason had been about to tell her something about Ewen. Ewen was surprised when Jason admitted that he had been wrong about Ewen. Jason claimed that he had been upset about Josslyn and Alexis when he had made the accusations against Ewen. Jason apologized for jumping to the wrong conclusion, so Ewen thanked Jason
The hospital paged Ewen, so he explained that he had to leave. Ewen thanked Elizabeth for a wonderful evening and then left. Elizabeth waited until Ewen was gone and then clarified that Ewen had slept on the sofa. "Good," Jason replied. Elizabeth was curious why Jason was really there, so Jason admitted that he had lied; Ewen was hiding something. Elizabeth didn't want to hear it because Ewen had been wonderful to her.
Elizabeth explained that Ewen had been there for her when everything had fallen apart. Jason told her about Ewen's connection to Alaska, but Elizabeth didn't think that it was suspicious that Ewen had moved to the same place that the Jacks family had.
Jason reminded her that Ewen had shown up at Wyndemere when Jason had been searching for clues about what had happened to Josslyn and Alexis. He was curious if Ewen had ever said anything to Elizabeth about the Jacks family. Elizabeth reluctantly admitted that Ewen had named each member of the Jacks family during Elizabeth and Ewen's first date.
Jason suddenly recalled that Jerry Jacks had once given Nikolas Cassadine an injection of a toxin similar to the one that Alexis and Josslyn had been given. Elizabeth argued that Patrick and Robin had been able to create an antidote for the compound that Nikolas had been given.
Jason hadn't realized that Patrick had been involved with synthesizing the antidote. Jason announced that he had to leave, but he asked Elizabeth to be careful and not mention anything to Ewen. Jason confessed that he wouldn't be able to handle it if something happened to her. Later, Jason approached the nurses' station to talk to Patrick. Jason revealed that it concerned Robin.
In Joe's hotel room, Jerry revealed that 1.4 million people lived without clean drinking water. According to Jerry, dirty water killed more people than war, malaria, and HIV combined. Jerry insisted that the people of Port Charles took their water for granted because they assumed that it was limitless. Jerry explained that they drank it, bathed in it, and played in it without giving a second thought to how they squandered a resource that gave them life.
Jerry decided that the denizens of Port Charles needed a wakeup call to force them to examine their priorities. Jerry suggested that perhaps the citizens of Port Charles would dispense with their rivalries and unite, because people seldom valued their lives until they were in danger of losing them.
Joe wondered if Jerry truly believed that Jerry's plan would draw people together. "That remains to be seen," Jerry replied and then added that it was a good day to be away from Port Charles. Jerry announced that he had to leave to tie up some loose ends.
Later as various PCers turned on the television, they discovered that Jerry was on the air. "Greetings and salutations," Jerry said. "Please pardon this interruption from your regularly scheduled programming. I'm sure many of you are wondering, 'Who in heaven's name is this man? Why is he on my television? Where is my soap opera?'
If that is the case, please allow me to introduce myself. Some of you may know me as James Brosnan, others, as James Craig, but the name that most of you know me by is my real one. I am Jerry Jacks. Do I have your attention? Please listen closely, because I have something very important to say. I've been keeping a little secret and I think it's time to let you all in on it," Jerry revealed.
8/27 At the Metro Court, Carly was with Jax and wanted to know if he knew that Jerry was alive. Jax said no. Tracy watched the news with Joe Jr. and muttered that Jerry was a murdering psychopath who had killed her brother.
Elizabeth was at home having tea with Ewen and shouted out that Jerry was insane and she knew that because he had held her hostage along with a lot of others at the Metro Court.
