Jason & Sam #32 March 28 - June 7, 2012: 8 hour original edit
DVD #32A Sonny immediately realizes that something is wrong, so Jason explained that Sam had been running late for a flight. Sonny was certain that there was more to Sam's odd behavior, so Jason admitted that Sam needed time to get over the scare of nearly losing Jason. Jason then conceded that Sam had started to question the kind of life that she and Jason would provide for their baby. Sonny was curious why Sam suddenly had questions about Jason's line of work. Jason blamed it on Sam talking to the wrong people. "How wrong?" Sonny asked. "John McBain," Jason answered. Jason filled Sonny in on how Sam had met John at the church when John had gone looking for Sonny. Sonny was concerned that Sam might have revealed too much about Sonny's organization to John, but Jason assured Sonny that Sam had shutdown when she had realized that John was a cop. Sonny suspected that Jason had more concerns about Sam, so Jason confided that it seemed like John had gotten under Sam's skin, even though John and Sam had just met. Sonny wondered if John had convinced Sam that Sonny had been responsible for shooting out Anthony's car tires. Jason insisted that Sam was simply confused, and that she would realize that she had been wrong when they identified the real shooter. Jason handed a thick file to Sonny, and then explained that Bernie had called in some favors to compile a complete dossier on John. Jason admitted that, from what he had seen in the file, John might be a big problem. Sonny was curious where John was most vulnerable, so Jason held up a picture of John's wife, Natalie, and son, Liam. "Same as you. His family," Jason replied. At the airport, John tried to follow Starr, but he bumped into Sam. John quickly apologized, and then realized whom he had walked into. Sam was curious if John had been following her, but John chuckled, as he pointed out that he would have been doing a poor job of it, if he had been. Sam wondered if John were headed out of town, so John clarified that he intended to remain in Port Charles until Sonny paid for the crimes that Sonny had committed. Sam couldn't understand why John was at the airport, so John revealed that he had been meeting someone. Sam appeared leery of the explanation, so John told her that, despite his penchant for dark clothes, he was one of the good guys. "So is Jason," Sam replied. "That right? What about Sonny?" John asked. Sam ignored the question, as she warned John to stay away from Jason. John thought that it was sweet how Sam looked out for her husband, so Sam admitted that she was also looking out for John.
John appreciated Sam's concern, but he assured her that he could hold his own. Sam warned John that he clearly didn't know Jason and Sonny very well. John pointed out that Sam didn't know John. Moments later, Sam's flight was ready to board. John wished her a safe journey, and then watched her leave. 3/29 At Jason's penthouse, Sonny claimed that John McBain was using the car accident as an excuse to keep gunning for Sonny, so Sonny wanted to know where John was most vulnerable. Jason handed Sonny a picture of John's wife and son, as he explained that John's family was John's weakness. "Cute kid" Sonny remarked, and then reminded Jason that they did not target women and children. Jason argued that others might. Sonny realized that his enemies were aware that John was trying to go after Sonny, which might present a problem. Sonny was also concerned that the person who had tried to frame Sonny would attempt to do it again. However, Sonny made it clear that he didn't want anything to happen to John's family. Jason pointed out that they couldn't warn John, because it would sound like a threat. Sonny's temper flared, as he explained that John needed to be dealt with. Sonny realized that even if he were able to prove that he had not caused the accident, John would find another way to get to Sonny. Jason was curious why John hated Sonny so much, so Sonny warned Jason that it wasn't a pretty story. Jason insisted on knowing what was going on, so Sonny revealed that years earlier, when Sonny had been a mid-level mobster, Sonny had outmaneuvered an FBI agent. According to Sonny, John had been a rising star at the FBI, so John had decided to boost his career by taking down Sonny. Sonny claimed that John had failed, but Jason sensed that there was more to the story. Sonny admitted that it had gotten very personal between Sonny and John, but Sonny refused to elaborate. Moments later, Carly knocked on the door. Sonny didn't want to deal with Carly, but Jason explained that he couldn't ignore Carly. Carly continued to knock on the door, demanding to be let in, so Jason opened the door. Carly was not pleased that she had been left waiting because of Sonny. Carly immediately began to rant at Sonny for trying to put Jason back to work when Jason was still recovering from life-saving brain surgery. Sonny was curious where Carly's concern for Jason's health had been when she had rushed to Jason's side to tell Jason about Robin's death. Carly insisted that Jason had had a right to know. "Yeah, eventually," Sonny argued. Sonny suspected that Carly had been motivated by the need to be the first one to tell Jason about the horrific tragedy. Carly denied it, and then suggested that Sonny could turn to Max or Milo for help, so that Jason could recuperate in peace. Jason ordered Carly and Sonny to stop arguing, because they needed to find out who had framed Sonny for shooting out Anthony's tires. Carly continued to complain about Sonny's lack of compassion for Jason's delicate condition, until Jason demanded that she focus. Meanwhile, Sonny accused Carly of sleeping with the enemy. Carly informed Sonny that he didn't have a right to comment about her private life, so Sonny clarified that he didn't care whom she spent her time with, but he didn't want Johnny to use her against Sonny. Carly denied that Johnny was doing that, so Sonny wondered if perhaps John McBain were. Carly insisted that she had only met John McBain twice. Jason defended Carly by assuring Sonny that Carly would never give Sonny up to a cop. Sonny explained that he had found Carly and John McBain in Kate's office. Sonny revealed that Jason didn't have any doubts about Sonny's innocence, but Sonny was curious if Carly did. Carly conceded that Sonny was capable of shooting out Anthony's tires, and then covering it up. However, she would never have believed it possible for Sonny to cover up his role in the death of a child until she had seen how Sonny had relentlessly pursued Jax, and then had fired a gun in Robin's home. Carly wanted to believe that Sonny was innocent, but she couldn't trust him. Sonny resented Carly's lack of faith in his honor, and intelligence. Sonny insisted that he would never have hidden incriminating evidence, like a gun, in Kate's office. Carly was forced to admit that he had a point, but she was adamant that Johnny hadn't shot out Anthony's tires. Sonny wasn't surprised that Carly suddenly trusted Johnny, but Carly explained that Johnny couldn't have planted the gun in Kate's office, because it would mean that Johnny had attempted to kill Anthony. "Like I said, sleeping with the enemy," Sonny grumbled, and then left. 3/30 Sam met with an administrator at the hospital where Jason had been born. Sam used her pregnancy as the reason she was researching Jason's medical history. The woman reported that there was nothing remarkable about Jason's birth, but Sam noticed that a page was missing from the medical record. The clerk told her that there was no way to recover the information that had been on the missing page. Sam wondered whether there would have been a record of Susan's birth coach. The administrator did a search and found the information Sam needed: Heather Webber, had been Susan's Lamaze partner. Sam left the clerk's office and made a phone call to Steve. "I know this is going to sound really strange," she prefaced. "Is there any way you can tell me where your mother is?" she asked. Carly defended Johnny to Jason, who accused her of sleeping with the enemy. Carly deflected attention by prodding Jason to tell her about Sam. Carly was shocked to learn that Jason hadn't kicked Sam to the curb, after she'd lied to him about Robin's death. Carly was angry that Jason had forgiven Sam. Jason demanded that Carly stop stalling. "What's really going on between you and Johnny Zacchara?" he pointedly asked. She recounted the night at the hospital benefit, when Sonny had publicly humiliated Johnny. She finally admitted that she'd spent that night with Johnny. Jason forbade Carly from continuing to sleep with Johnny. Jason said she was putting her children in danger. Carly admitted that she was falling for Johnny, but she led Jason to believe she'd call things off with Johnny. 4/2 Sam phoned Jason and told him that she was following a lead to Heather Webber, who had been present at his birth. Jason said that Heather was certifiable, but Sam said that she hoped to catch Heather on one of her lucid days. Jason said that he wanted to be with Sam, but had to stay in Port Charles to help Sonny. Jason told Sam that McBain's grudge against Sonny went back further than the recent accident. Sam ended the phone call when Heather entered the visitor's room. Sam introduced herself, but Heather said she remembered Sam as being pregnant and planning to call her child, "Lila," when Heather had been comforting Edward shortly after his wife, Lila's death. Sarcastically she asked Sam how Edward liked being reminded of Lila by Sam's daughter's name. Sam quietly told Heather that the child had been stillborn. Heather was momentarily quiet, and Sam took the opportunity to say that she was there to get information about Jason's birth. Sam explained that a page was missing from the birth record, and since Heather had been present at the birth, she might fill in the missing information. Heather wanted to know more details, so Sam told Heather about Franco and the home movies that he had sent to Jason. Heather recognized Franco as the artist and said that she loved his work. Sam was revolted but did not let it show. When Sam asked Heather if anything unusual had happened the day of the birth, Heather wanted to know what was in it for her. When Sam asked what Heather wanted, Heather said that she had a baby of her own that she wanted to reunite with. Sam pointed out that Steve was a grown man and made his own decisions. Heather said that she was not delusional and that she knew Steve was an adult. Heather said that all she wanted Sam to do was deliver a letter to Steve. Sam was relieved and agreed. Heather handed Sam the letter and them Sam showed Heather pictures of Baby Boy Moore from the video and asked what Heather knew. Heather looked at the pictures and said that, for starters, the baby in the picture was not Jason Morgan. Spinelli showed up at Jason's apartment and said that he needed Jason's help. Spinelli explained about Maxie and her confession and told Jason that Maxie was behaving irrationally. Jason said that Maxie was trying to punish herself and that if she could not pay for the crime that she believed she had committed, then she would pay for a crime someone else had committed.
Spinelli saw the logic in what Jason said. Jason told Spinelli that when people lost someone they loved, they looked for someone to blame, even if they had to blame themselves. Jason also said that Maxie would not stop until she was punished. Jason admitted that he knew how Maxie felt because he also wanted to shoulder some of the blame for Robin's death. Spinelli said that there were many factors that could have altered the outcome. Jason replied that Spinelli had to find a way to convince Maxie, and if he could not do that, then Spinelli had to find Lisa's real killer and prove that Maxie could not be guilty. Jason advised Spinelli to be careful, because the real killer was in the clear and would not like things stirred up. Jason added that Maxie's first statement about Anthony was probably true. Spinelli asked if his research about John McBain had been helpful. Jason said that it was, but that he still did not know how to clear Sonny. Spinelli advised Jason to follow his own advice and find the person who had actually shot out Anthony's tires. 4/3 At Michael's apartment, Starr decided to duck out of sight, while Michael went to answer the door. Jason entered the apartment, but wondered if anyone else were there when he spotted two place settings on the table. Michael explained that he hadn't cleared the dishes away from the previous day, and then wondered why Jason was there. Jason was curious if anyone, including Johnny, had tried to influence Michael's testimony. Michael thought that it was an odd question, so Jason explained that Sonny was certain that Johnny had shot out Anthony's tires, and then had framed Sonny for the crime. Jason warned Michael that Johnny would be willing to use anyone close to Sonny to take Sonny down. Michael wondered if Jason thought that it was possible that Johnny had framed Sonny. Jason explained that he knew Sonny, so Jason was certain that Sonny would never run if Sonny had been responsible for killing a child. Meanwhile, Starr carefully eavesdropped on the conversation, as Jason cautioned Michael that the district attorney might call Starr to testify. Michael wondered if Sonny had sent Jason to make certain that Michael stayed away from Starr. Jason denied it, but he was curious about Michael and Starr's connection. Michael acknowledged that he had a bond with Starr, but Jason warned Michael that grief often led to anger, which might lead Starr to want to punish Sonny. Jason urged Michael to keep away from Starr. Michael was noncommittal, so Jason wondered if Starr had been in touch with Michael. Michael was spared from having to answer when Sonny dropped by. Jason greeted Sonny, and then explained why he was there. Michael assured Jason and Sonny that he hadn't talked to Starr. Sonny admitted that Michael made Sonny vulnerable, because Michael had been at the scene of the accident. Sonny feared that the prosecutor, or Starr, would take something that Michael had said, and then twist it around to make Sonny look guilty. Michael wondered if Sonny was nervous about the trial. Sonny was confident that everything would be fine, as long as Michael was behind him. "Yeah. Yeah, always," Michael told his father. After Jason and Sonny left, Starr entered the living room. Her mood was stormy, as she assured Michael that she hadn't expected him to lie for her. Michael insisted that he believed that Starr deserved answers. Starr appreciated that, but she promised him that he wouldn't have to cover for her for much longer. Michael assured her that everything would soon be over. "Oh, I know it will be," Starr quietly muttered. In the hallway, Sonny warned Jason that Johnny was working Carly. Jason admitted that he knew that. Sonny wondered if Jason had found anything that might connect Johnny to the gun. Jason confessed that he hadn't uncovered anything yet, so Sonny revealed that it didn't matter, because Sonny intended to "bring that son of a bitch down to his knees." At Ferncliff, an institution for the criminally insane, Sam wondered if Heather knew why Franco would want Jason and Sam to see Jason as a baby. Heather glanced at the pictures, and then announced that the baby in the photographs wasn't Jason. Sam was certain that Heather was mistaken, because Sam had checked the hospital records herself, which had confirmed that Susan Moore had given birth to a baby boy. Heather clarified that the baby in the pictures was Susan's son, but it wasn't Jason. Sam was confused, so Heather revealed that after Susan had given birth to a baby boy, the nurse had whisked the infant away. Heather explained that the doctor had left the room, but Susan had continued to have contractions. Heather became alarmed when Susan had passed out, so Heather had raced to the door to fetch the doctor, but the nurse had appeared instead. The nurse had quickly determined that Susan was still in labor. Seconds later, a second baby boy was born. Sam was shocked to realize that Susan had given birth to twin boys. According to Heather, the nurse realized that only Heather and the nurse knew about the second infant's birth, so the nurse had suggested that they keep it that way. Sam was horrified, as Heather revealed that the nurse couldn't have children, and that she had been turned down for adoption, so the nurse had offered to buy one of the baby boys. Heather explained that money had been tight for her and Susan, so Heather had agreed to sell the baby to the nurse. However, Heather quickly clarified that she had chosen the better twin for Susan. Sam wondered how it had been possible for Heather to tell the difference between identical twin boys. Heather pointed out that she had never said that the boys had been identical twins; Heather revealed that they had been fraternal twins. Heather claimed that she had kept the blue-eyed, blond baby for Susan, and given the nurse the baby with the dark eyes. Heather explained that there had been something off with baby that she had sold to the nurse, because the baby's eyes had been empty, like a doll's eyes. Sam was curious what the nurse's name had been. "Elizabeth Frank," Heather replied. Heather then revealed that the nurse had gone by the name "Betsy." Sam realized that Heather had sold Jason's twin brother to Franco's mother. Heather perked up when she realized that she was related to the famous artist, whom she admired. Sam stumbled to the door in a dazed state, even though Heather reminded Sam of Sam's promise to give Steve the letter. Sam ignored Heather, as she walked out of the door. Heather was undaunted. "Don't worry, Steven Lars, I'll find another way to get to you. Hold on, baby; Mama's coming," Heather promised her son. In the hallway, Sam crumpled to the floor, as she realized why Franco had been so obsessed with Jason. Sam was certain that Franco had known that he and Jason were fraternal twins. Moments later, Sam was slammed with another realization; the paternity test on her baby hadn't excluded Franco as the father, because Franco and Jason were twins. 4/4 Jason knocked on Kate's office door. Kate quickly stashed the book under some files, and then bade Jason to enter. Kate was surprised to see Jason, so he explained that he was there to talk to her about the gun that had been found in her office, so that they could prove that the gun hadn't belonged to Sonny. Jason wanted Kate to take him through the morning, before Dante had found the gun. Kate explained that her assistant, Maxie, had been out that morning, because Maxie's cousin, Robin, had been killed the night before. Jason's interest was piqued when Kate mentioned that Olivia had dropped by to check on Kate, to make certain that Kate was okay after Sonny's shooting. Jason wondered what time that had been, but Kate couldn't remember. However, Kate insisted that it didn't matter, because Olivia hadn't been responsible for planting the gun in the office. Jason argued that Olivia had been the only person in the office, besides Kate. Kate grew increasingly uncomfortable as Jason began to fire questions at her about the gun, and Kate's movements prior to the discovery of the gun. Kate was furious at Jason's suggestion that the gun might have belonged to her. She vehemently denied that she would have anything to do with a gun. Jason kept pushing, until Kate shouted that she resented Jason's implication that she had caused the death of a little girl. Jason was stunned, so he asked her what she was talking about. Kate had a dizzy spell, which drew out Connie. "Are you calling me a liar, huh? You come in here, getting all in my face. Who the hell do you think you are?" Connie demanded. Jason was shocked by the change in Kate. He wondered what was wrong with her, but Connie assured him that she was fine. She then tried to turn the tables on Jason by asking him if he had any idea whom he was talking to. "Why don't you tell me," Jason replied. Connie bragged that she was the woman whom Sonny loved, and shared his bed with, which made her number one in Sonny's life, not Jason. Connie warned Jason not to cross her again, or he would regret it. Jason had no idea what was going on with Kate, but he realized that she wasn't herself. "Damn straight, Stone Cold. Get the hell out of my office," Connie ordered him. Jason left, but it was clear that he was concerned about his strange encounter with Kate. Sam arrived home, but her thoughts remained on what Heather had told her about Jason's twin brother, and Franco's mother adopting the baby boy. Sam had no idea how to break the news to Jason, but she gathered her courage, and then called out to her husband. No one responded, so she sat down at the dinning room table, while stroking her belly. Sam's eyes filled with tears, which she quickly wiped away when Spinelli bounded down the stairs and into the living room. It took only a glance for Spinelli to realize that Sam was upset, so he wondered what was wrong. Sam explained that she was tired, and then changed the subject by asking how Maxie was doing. Spinelli revealed that Maxie might end up in jail, if they couldn't prove that Maxie hadn't killed Lisa Niles, or the first mate of the yacht where Lisa had terrorized everyone. Spinelli suggested that he could use Sam's help, but Sam said that she had too much going on. She wondered if Spinelli knew where Jason was, which prompted Spinelli to remember that Sam had been in New York City.
He was curious if she had found anything out about Franco and the DVD. Sam admitted that she had talked to the administrator at the hospital where Jason had been born, but she was spared from having to elaborate when Spinelli's laptop chimed. Spinelli glanced at his laptop, and then explained that he had been waiting for something that might help him with Maxie's case. Sam encouraged Spinelli to check the laptop, so Spinelli carried it to the desk and then opened it. He was disappointed, because it had not been what he had been expecting. Spinelli explained that there was one more place where he could get his hands on Lisa Niles's case file, so Sam assured him that it was fine for him to leave. After Spinelli left, Sam agonized over the possibility that her baby's father might be Franco. She had no idea how to break the news to Jason about his twin, or the baby's possible paternity. Sam spotted a file on the desk, so she picked it up. "You again," she said, as she looked at John's picture. Sam grabbed her keys and jacket, and then left. Sam arrived to visit her mother. Sam offered to leave when she saw Sonny, but Sonny assured Sam that he was done. Sonny stopped to let Sam know that he was aware that she had doubts about him, so he promised that everyone would soon know the truth about what had happened on that fateful night. After Sonny left, Alexis wondered what was going on with Sam. Sam was visibly upset, as she explained that she didn't know where to start. Alexis was frustrated when she received a text message requesting her appearance in court, because the judge was ready to rule on Alexis' petition to have Maxie's guilty verdict thrown out. Alexis invited Sam to go with her, so that they could talk, but Sam decided to wait for her mother to return. Sam thought that some time alone would give Sam the opportunity to calm down. After Alexis left, Sam curled up on the sofa, and then began to cry, as she recalled Heather mentioning that Jason's twin brother had had sinister eyes. Moments later, someone knocked on the door. Sam told the person to go away, but the person continued to knock until Sam answered the door. Sam was startled to see John McBain standing on her mother's doorstep, so she asked what he was doing there. John explained that he had hoped to talk to Alexis, so Sam explained that her mother wasn't there, and then tried to shut the door. John could see that Sam was upset, so he asked her if she were okay. Sam suspected that John only wanted to take advantage of her during a vulnerable moment by questioning her about Sonny. John clarified that he just wanted to help. He followed Sam to the living room, as she told him that no one could help her. John suggested that it might help to tell someone about what was troubling her. Jason returned home. Spinelli was reviewing Lisa Niles's case file at the desk, so Jason wondered if Sam had returned. Spinelli revealed that Sam had been home, but then she had left. However, Spinelli confessed that Sam had seemed anxious to speak to Jason. 4/5 At the penthouse, Jason explained to Spinelli that it was imperative for Jason to find a way to prove that Sonny had been framed. Spinelli was curious if Kate had been helpful. "No," Jason admitted, and then changed the subject to find out if Sam had learned anything about Franco's DVD during her trip to New York City. Spinelli admitted that he didn't know; he was certain that Sam would want to discuss it with Jason first. Jason doubted that there was anything to find out, because the DVD had been Franco's last attempt to play mind games. Spinelli was impressed, because Jason sounded rational about Franco. Jason confessed that he was concerned about Sam, but Spinelli suggested that perhaps she was looking for closure, so that she could focus on the baby. Jason agreed, but he worried that things wouldn't settle down until Sonny was exonerated. Jason then confided that something was going on with Kate. Jason told Spinelli about Kate's outburst, so Spinelli thought perhaps Kate had simply been uneasy. Jason insisted that it had gone beyond that, because she had seemed paranoid and had kept accusing Jason of saying things that he hadn't. Jason had no idea what had made Kate melt down like that. Spinelli admitted that Kate had a short fuse, because he had seen her have similar reactions over what Spinelli considered trivial matters. Spinelli confessed that he had been on the receiving end of Kate's temper several times. Jason explained that she hadn't gotten hostile until Jason had started to question her about the gun, so the gun had set her off. Jason confided that it had seemed like Kate had felt threatened by Jason's attempt to prove that Sonny had been framed. Spinelli wondered if Jason had somehow offended Kate. Jason revealed that Kate had seemed nervous when he had first entered her office, because she had quickly tucked a book beneath some files folders. According to Jason, everything had been fine until Jason had asked about the gun. Spinelli speculated that Kate knew more about the gun than she was saying. Jason conceded that it was a possibility, but he insisted that Kate's behavior hadn't made sense, because she had been defensive, not afraid, as if she had feared that Sonny had actually committed the crime. Spinelli admitted that it sounded almost like Maxie, who might end up in jail after pleading guilty. Jason offered to help Spinelli, but Spinelli declined, because he knew that Jason had to focus on Sonny. However, Spinelli realized that there was someone who could help. Later, Sonny stopped by to talk to Jason about Jason's recovery from brain surgery. Jason assured Sonny that he was fine, but Sonny suggested that perhaps Jason needed more time to recuperate. Jason disagreed, so Sonny wondered if Jason had experienced any rage attacks since the surgery. Jason assured Sonny that Robin's medication had worked, so Sonny decided to ask Jason about Jason's visit with Kate. At the lake house, John McBain offered to help Sam, because she was clearly upset, but Sam couldn't handle his "good cop" routine. She explained that he was the last person that she should be talking to, so she asked him to leave. John assured Sam that he was in town to investigate Sonny, not Jason, so he promised that he wasn't using her. Sam wasn't swayed, so John reminded her of their talk in church. Sam admitted that she hadn't felt like she had been talking to a stranger, so John suggested that she trust him, the way that she had trusted him in the church. Sam steadfastly refused, so John decided to slip into the kitchen to fetch a glass of water for her. Sam realized that John had no intention of leaving. John explained that he had business with Alexis, so he planned to stay until Alexis returned. Sam decided to leave, but she began to sway as she stood up. John quickly reached out to steady Sam so she didn't fall. He pointed out that she was in no condition to drive, but Sam suggested that it might be best for everyone if she were to wrap her car around a tree. John was horrified by the thought, so he reminded her of the precious life growing inside of her. Sam admitted that she should probably talk to Jason about what she had found out in New York City, but she didn't know how to broach the subject. John wondered if Jason would react badly to the news, so Sam confessed that that would be an understatement. John worried that Jason might become violent with Sam, but she quickly assured him that Jason was not like that. Sam explained that Jason was always in control, but one man had been able to make Jason lose it. John recalled reading that Jason had been the target of a serial killer artist. Sam explained that Franco had been a sick freak who had played mind games. "So this is about Franco," John guessed. Sam admitted that Franco had thought that he and Jason had been alike, prompting John to point out that Jason was a mob enforcer, so he could see why Franco would think that. Sam insisted that Jason would never hurt anyone deliberately, but Franco had enjoyed it. Sam then confessed that Franco still had the power to destroy Jason and Sam's lives. She told John about the DVD that Franco had left for them, and then confided that she had regretted watching it. Sam's eyes filled with tears as she revealed the details of the video, and her decision to dig into the message behind it. Sam regretted that decision, because Jason had wanted a child for so long, but it was all ruined. John suggested that if Jason were the man that Sam had claimed that Jason was, then Jason would stand by her and help her deal with whatever she had found out in New York City. Sam explained that she had no idea what the information would do to Jason, or how it would impact her relationship with her husband. John cautioned Sam not to repeat the mistake that she had made when Robin had died by withholding important information from Jason. Sam wondered how John would feel to learn that Franco was his brother. Sam realized that she had said too much, so she begged John not to tell anyone. John assured her that her secret was safe with him. He was curious how certain she was that Jason and Franco were brothers. Sam clarified that Jason and Franco were twins, and then revealed the details of Susan's delivery, and Heather's decision to sell one of the twins to Elizabeth Frank, Franco's mother. John pointed out that Elizabeth Frank seemed like a common name, but Sam explained that Jason had been able to trace Franco's mother to Woodstock, so Sam had decided to pay Betsy a visit to verify Heather's claims. According to Sam, Betsy had admitted that Heather had told the truth, and then Betsy had given Sam the hospital identification bracelet that Franco had found, along with the DVD, when Franco had been a teenager. Sam explained that Franco had badgered Betsy for the truth, until Betsy had admitted that Jason and Franco were twins. Sam was certain that Franco had first sought out Jason to reconnect with his twin, but then Jason had rejected Franco. John understood why Jason would be unwilling to deal with a sociopath like Franco. "You have no idea," Sam replied. John pointed out that Franco was dead, so whatever Franco had done to Jason was over. "No, it's not," Sam tearfully explained. Sam confided to John about how Franco had raped Sam while Sam and Jason had been on their honeymoon. Sam admitted that she had refused to go to the hospital after the rape, so she had decided to have a paternity test when she had realized that she was pregnant, since she was certain that she had conceived during her honeymoon. Sam explained that the paternity test couldn't rule out Franco as the father, because Jason and Franco were twins. 4/6 Sonny asked Jason why Jason had grilled Kate, but Jason denied that his and Kate's interaction had been a heated one. Sonny assumed, as Kate wouldn't have exaggerated, that Jason had been having blackouts again. Jason let Sonny know that Kate hadn't been acting like herself. He worried that Kate might have been having doubts about Sonny's innocence. "I think something's wrong with Kate," Jason worried. Sonny refused to believe that Kate had been involved with the shooting that had blown out Anthony's tires. Sonny asked Jason to stay away from Kate. After Sonny left, Sam arrived. Jason asked Sam whether she'd gotten the answers she had sought at Ferncliff. Sam regretted confiding in John McBain, but he tried to comfort her as she lamented the fact that Jason and Franco were twin brothers. The genetics test was worthless, she explained, since the two men shared DNA. "Not necessarily," cautioned John. He pointed out that, since Jason and Franco were fraternal twins, their DNA would not be identical. Sam told John they wouldn't be able to get a sample from Franco, because he was dead. John let Sam know that the FBI had Franco's DNA on file. John offered to get in touch with some of his contacts at the agency. Sam swore him to secrecy, but he strongly urged Sam not to hide the truth from Jason. He likened Sam's actions to Natalie's. "Do you ever think maybe we don't want to be spared?" he asked. Alexis walked in, surprised to see John with Sam. Sam assured her mother that everything was fine and left. "What the hell just happened here?" Alexis asked John. John told her he'd investigated Sonny while working for the FBI and was investigating Cole and Hope's deaths. Alexis pointed out that John was no longer with the FBI and, as a lieutenant with the Llanview Police Department, he was out of his jurisdiction. John presented Alexis with documentation proving he'd been given a federal allowance to continue investigating Sonny. "Since when do the Feds empower a local police officer?" an incredulous Alexis asked. "Since they want your client as badly as I do," he smugly answered. 4/9 At the penthouse, Sam told Jason about her meeting with Heather, but left out all of the pertinent details concerning Franco. She did not exactly lie, but she did not tell all the truth. Jason reminded Sam that before she left for New York she had promised him that she would drop the investigation if she did not find out anything important. Jason concluded that since Sam had just told him that she had not found anything new, it was time for her to stop obsessing about Franco and let matters drop. Sam agreed that Jason was right. Jason noted that Sam looked tired and urged her to rest. Sam laughed and said that it was funny that Jason had said those words because he was already back at work for Sonny after Jason's recent brain surgery. Jason told Sam about his interview with Kate. Jason said that he thought that Sonny had a real problem on his hands. He told Sam that Kate had called him Sonny's "lapdog," and had warned him that he would be sorry if he crossed her. Sam said that it did not sound like Kate. Jason agreed that Kate seemed like a different person. Sam urged Jason to tell Sonny what had happened. Jason said that he had informed Sonny, but that Kate had told Sonny a different story, and Sonny had chosen to believe Kate. Jason said he understood why Sonny had taken Kate's side. Jason said that the last thing that a man wanted to believe was that the woman he loved was lying to him. Sam could not meet Jason's eyes. Sam told Jason that she was sorry that Kate had lied and acknowledged his frustration. Jason said he would deal with it. Sam told Jason that she loved him and he returned the sentiment and said that he just wanted everything to be okay with the baby. Sam said she wanted the same thing. When her phone rang, Jason said he would go to the kitchen and make some food. When Sam answered, it was John, who told her that the FBI lab still had Franco's DNA, which they would be sending him. John said he would contact Sam as soon as the sample arrived. Sam said that it was very helpful but that she could not talk. She hung up as Jason walked in and asked if things were okay. Sam said they were, but looked pensive. 4/11 At the penthouse, Jason left a message for Spinelli, because Jason wanted to discuss the message that Spinelli had left about Kate's precarious mental state. Jason wanted to know exactly what Spinelli had been referring to.
Meanwhile, Sam stood in the hallway, talking to John McBain on the phone. John offered to meet Sam at General Hospital to give her the sample of Franco's DNA that he had obtained from the FBI. Jason opened the front door, as Sam ended the call. "What's going on? Did you get bad news?" Jason asked when he noticed Sam's somber expression.
Sam followed Jason into the penthouse, as she explained that she had a prenatal checkup. Jason wanted to go to the appointment with Sam, so that he could hear the baby's heartbeat, but Sam assured him that it wasn't necessary. She realized that Sonny's trial was set to begin, so she knew that Jason wanted to be there to support Sonny. Jason made it clear that the baby was more important, and that he could go to the trial after the doctor's appointment. Sam pasted on a smile, and then let the matter drop. Moments later, Spinelli arrived, eager to discuss the situation with Kate. Sam immediately seized the opportunity to urge Jason to stay to talk to Spinelli, and then dashed out of the door before Jason could stop her. Jason was frustrated, but he remained behind to find out what Spinelli knew about Kate's mental health. Spinelli explained that there appeared to be something clinically wrong with Kate, and that she was being treated for a serious problem, but Spinelli didn't have any specifics. Spinelli revealed that he had stumbled onto the information, while snooping through Ewen's office, in an attempt to find evidence to prove that Maxie had falsely confessed to killing Dr. Niles. Spinelli then shifted gears to ask Jason to talk to Maxie. Jason doubted that Maxie would listen to him, and then explained that he needed to focus on Kate. Spinelli realized that Jason was right, so he explained that Ewen had drawn up papers to commit Kate to a sanitarium against her will. Jason had no idea what to do with the information, because Sonny was in complete denial about Kate's odd behavior. Jason confided that Sonny had ordered Jason to leave Kate alone, so Jason would need proof that something was wrong with Kate. Jason wondered if perhaps he should simply leave things alone, since it was clear that Kate was seeking treatment for her problem. Spinelli warned Jason that the papers had indicated that Kate was a danger to herself, and to others. Jason asked Spinelli to keep the information between them, and then wondered if Spinelli could hack into the hospital's computer system to access Ewen's records. Spinelli admitted that he couldn't, but he knew someone who could. Jason decided to go to the hospital to meet Sam for her doctor's appointment, while Spinelli made some calls. At the hospital, Sam thanked John for meeting her, so John quickly handed her the vial of Franco's DNA. Sam promised that she wouldn't let anyone know where she had gotten the sample. John was curious if Jason planned to meet her, so Sam admitted that she hadn't told Jason anything yet. John realized that Sam thought that she was protecting Jason, but he warned her that, at the end of the day, she was lying to her husband. Sam insisted that she hated what she was doing, so John suggested that she stop. Sam explained that she couldn't, because Jason's sworn enemy had been Jason's twin. She wanted to be able to assure Jason that the baby was Jason's when she revealed that Franco had been Jason's brother. John was curious what Sam intended to do, if the baby turned out to be Franco's. Sam admitted that nothing would ever be the same, but she would find a way to tell Jason. John hoped that things worked out for her, so Sam thanked him for listening. She confessed that it felt weird to be with him. "Why is that?" she wondered. John suggested that perhaps they were put where they were meant to be. Meanwhile, Elizabeth rounded the corner, and then stopped short when she saw Sam and John in deep conversation. Sam confided to John that she wanted the baby to be Jason's, so John urged her to get the paternity test done, because the longer Sam waited, the longer it would take for her and Jason to know what they were dealing with. Jason bumped into Elizabeth when he arrived at the hospital. She was surprised to see Jason, because she knew that Sonny's trial was scheduled to begin. Jason explained that he intended to go to the courthouse after Sam's prenatal checkup. Elizabeth revealed that Sam wasn't with Dr. Lee. Jason was curious where his wife was. "She's right around the corner, talking to some guy," Elizabeth told him. 4/12 At the hospital, Sam glanced down at the vial of Franco's DNA that John McBain had given to her. She quickly tucked it into her jacket pocket when Jason walked up. Sam wondered what he was doing there, so Jason explained that he had hoped to go to the checkup with Sam, but Elizabeth had told him that Sam had been talking to "some guy." Jason wondered if he had missed the appointment. Sam tried to change the subject, prompting Jason to wonder if she were trying to get rid of him. Jason insisted that he wanted to be supportive by attending the doctor's appointments with her. Moments later, Kelly Lee walked up. "Sam, you needed to see me about something?" Kelly asked. Jason appeared confused by the question, so he reminded Kelly that they were there for Sam's checkup. Kelly noticed Sam's uneasy expression, so she covered for Sam by blaming the mix-up on the receptionist. Kelly assured Jason and Sam that one of her patients had cancelled, so she invited them to follow her to an examination room. Later, Kelly asked that Jason give them some privacy for the first part of the exam, so Jason stepped out of the room. "What's going on?" Kelly asked Sam after Jason left. Sam explained that she needed another paternity test, and then handed the vial of Franco's DNA to Kelly. Sam revealed that Jason and Franco were fraternal twins, so Sam was concerned about the results of the paternity test. Kelly agreed that the first paternity test might have given them a false-positive reading, so Kelly agreed to run another paternity test. Kelly also promised to put a rush on it, so that Sam could have the results in twenty-four hours. After Jason returned to the examination room, Kelly decided to do an ultrasound. Sam and Jason were awed when they saw the baby. Kelly revealed that the baby was healthy, and then offered to try to find out the sex of the baby, even though the baby appeared to be a bit shy. Jason and Sam wanted to be surprised, so they agreed to wait until the baby was born. Kelly handed Jason a picture of the sonogram, so Jason asked Sam if it were okay for him to keep it. Sam smiled, as she assured him that it was fine. After Jason left to go to the courthouse, Kelly gave Sam a piece of paper that Sam would need to pick up the results of the paternity test the following day. Sam insisted that the baby had to be Jason's, because she feared that it would destroy Jason if Franco were the father. Later, Sam was looking at the piece of paper that Kelly had given to her, while she waited for the elevator. Heather walked up, and tapped Sam on the shoulder. "Hello, Samantha, remember me?" Heather asked. 4/13 Heather confronted Sam at the hospital. Heather explained that Steve had signed the papers to get her released from Ferncliff. Heather was surprised to learn that Sam hadn't told Jason that Franco was his brother. Heather revealed that she knew Franco was Jason's twin. "I am not having this discussion with you," Sam said as she turned and walked away. Heather grabbed Sam, the two struggled for a moment, and Sam dropped the paperwork she'd been holding. Heather picked it up and asked why Sam was having a DNA test conducted. Heather put two and two together and assumed that Sam had slept with Franco. Heather threatened to tell Jason about the test. Sam turned the tables and threatened to tell Steve everything, and she predicted Steve would rescind the agreement that was keeping Heather out of Ferncliff. Heather reluctantly agreed to keep Sam's secret. "Samantha, I'm keeping my fingers crossed the baby is Franco's," Heather taunted. Spinelli informed Jason that he hadn't been able to gain access to Ewen's files. Spinelli suggested that Jason warn Sonny about Kate's precarious mental state, but Jason said he had to have proof first. Jason showed Spinelli Sam's ultrasound photo, and the two shared a lighthearted moment. The prosecutor sought to introduce Anthony's written statement as evidence because, the attorney alleged, Anthony feared reprisal. The judge disallowed the statement, which elicited an outburst from Starr. At that moment, Anthony walked in. On the stand, Anthony testified that he'd seen Sonny in his rearview mirror the night of the crash that had killed Cole and Hope. Anthony stated that he had excellent eyesight, so Alexis tested his abilities. She held up a page with "perjury is a crime" written on it, but Anthony couldn't make out the words on the paper. The people rested their case, and the judge asked Alexis to call her first witness. "We won't be calling any witnesses, Your Honor," she explained. "The defense rests," she concluded. Sonny was nonplussed, but Alexis assured him it was in his best interest. As the prosecutor gave his closing summation, Kate began to squirm. Alexis started her closing argument, and Jason noticed Kate's odd behavior. 4/16 Kate opened the door as Jason was about to knock. Jason turned to leave, but Kate started apologizing for her behavior to him. Jason tried to explain why he had questioned her about the gun, but Kate started hearing Connie's voice and screamed at her to "leave her the hell alone." Jason thought that Kate was talking to him. Kate said she was sorry and rushed out of the house.
Sonny got home and overheard Jason talking to Spinelli about Kate and how she had gone off on him again. Sonny told Jason to stay away from Kate. Jason was calm when he asked Sonny if he could honestly say that there had been nothing odd about Kate's behavior recently. Sonny said that Kate had been high strung, but there was nothing wrong. Jason tried to tell Sonny that Kate's psychiatrist thought that she was dangerous. Sonny screamed at Jason to stop going behind his back. Sonny insisted that he knew Kate, and he did not want to talk about her again. Jason left quietly. At Kelly's Diner, Sam made a call to inquire about her most recent paternity test but found that the results were not yet available. As Sam hung up the phone, Alexis sat down with her and wanted to finish the conversation they had started a few days earlier. Sam said that she was fine and no longer needed to talk. Alexis was not convinced and continued to probe Sam about her relationship to Jason and what had happened when Sam and John had conversed while Alexis had been gone from her home and Sam had been alone with John. Sam continued to evade Alexis' probes and blamed her condition on hormones. Alexis assured Sam that Sam had a perfect life and that nothing would go wrong. Sam still seemed unhappy, but before Alexis could ask more questions, Steve and Heather entered the diner. Heather greeted Alexis and Sam and acted friendly until Steve walked away to speak to Alexis privately. Then the gloves were removed, and Heather demanded to know why she should not inform Jason about Sam's paternity test. Sam said that she had kept her side of the bargain. Heather accused Sam of telling Steve about the stolen baby, but Sam said she had stuck to their deal and had not told anyone about anything that had occurred between Sam and Heather. Heather seemed convinced that Sam had not been responsible for sending Steve to ask Ewen to reevaluate Heather. Before Heather could make more threats, Sam got a call from General Hospital, alerting her that the DNA test results were in. Jason entered, looking for Sam. Alexis wanted to know if everything was okay between Jason and Sam. Jason said that he and Sam were very happy. Jason left Kelly's, but Heather rushed out after him. She asked how her cousin once removed was doing? Then said that they had a lot to catch up on. Sam picked up the DNA test results from GH and went to the docks to open them privately. She flashed back to the first test and how happy she and Jason had been when they got the results and then she thought about how upset she had been when Heather had told her that Franco had been Jason's twin. As she prepared to open the envelope, John appeared on the docks. 4/17 At Kelly's, Heather followed Jason outside. Steve was hot on his mother's heels, as Heather called out to Jason. Jason was curious when Heather had been released from Ferncliff. Heather ignored the question, as she admitted that it was nice to see her cousin, once removed. According to Heather, they had some catching up to do, but Jason disagreed. Heather snagged Jason's full attention when she insisted that there was something that Jason needed to know about Sam. Jason demanded to know what Heather had to say. "Quite a bit, actually," Heather replied. Steve tried to intervene by explaining that Sam had visited Heather at Ferncliff. Jason revealed that Sam had told him everything about the visit. "Not everything," Heather assured Jason. Heather then revealed that she had been present at Jason's birth. Jason told Heather to get to the point. Heather was annoyed by Jason's lack of interest in the events surrounding his birth, but she confessed that he had been a beautiful baby, who had been "golden." "Not all are so blessed," Heather cryptically added. Heather then revealed that Jason's birth had not been the end for Susan. Jason wondered what that meant, but then decided that he didn't have time for Heather's games. Heather resented Jason's rudeness. She explained that she had something important to tell him that he needed to know. According to Heather, there had been some complications during Susan's delivery. "Medical complications?" Jason asked. "Among others," Heather replied. Heather informed Jason that he should be grateful to her, because things could have easily gone the other way. Heather was about to tell Jason her secret, but Alexis stepped out of Kelly's to inform Jason that the jury had reached a verdict. Heather resented Alexis' interruption, but Jason and Alexis ignored Heather. On the pier, Sam had the paternity test results in hand when she spotted John McBain. Sam wasn't surprised that he was there. "Nice to see you too," John replied. Sam explained that she didn't want to seem ungrateful, because he had helped her, but she was reluctant to look at the results of the paternity test. She confessed that she had been walking around, wondering if her baby's father might be Franco, so she was tempted to throw the results into the water without opening them. John was curious if Sam were prepared to live without knowing the truth. Sam thought that it might be for the best, but John warned Sam that secrets had a way of getting out. Sam realized that he spoke from experience, because of what had happened when Natalie had lied to John about his son, Liam. Sam realized that John thought that it was a mistake for her to keep the truth from Jason, but she explained that Jason had been so happy during the sonogram when Jason had seen the baby for the first time. John reminded Sam that it was her call to make, but, as a general rule, John favored telling the truth. Sam admitted that it didn't matter, because Heather had been released from Ferncliff, and that she had discovered that Sam had had the paternity test. Sam explained that Heather was mentally unstable, so there was no telling what Heather would do, since Heather resented Sam for not delivering a letter to Steve. John wished that he could help, so Sam asked him to stay, while she read the results of the paternity test. Sam then confided that she felt as if she were having another déjà vu moment. She sensed that she had known John from somewhere, so she needed him with her, because he didn't feel like a stranger to her. "How is this possible?" Sam wondered. John pulled Sam close, as she wept on his shoulder. John promised Sam that she and Jason would get through it, and that Jason would understand. Sam was curious if John had understood when Natalie had lied to him. Moments later, Sam's cell phone rang. It was Jason, calling to tell her that Sonny had been found not guilty. Sam pulled herself together, and then asked Jason to meet her at the penthouse, because she had something to tell him. 4/18 At the penthouse, Sam was looking at the results of the second paternity test when Jason arrived home. She put them down, as she greeted her husband. Jason wondered if something had happened to the baby, so Sam assured him that the baby was fine. She then reminded him about her visit with Heather at Ferncliff. Jason admitted that he had seen Heather recently, and that Heather had mentioned that there had been some complications during his birth. Sam tearfully admitted that she should have told him sooner, but she hadn't known how. Jason was confused, so Sam revealed what Heather had told her: that Susan had delivered a second baby shortly after Jason's birth. Jason seemed to have difficulty grasping what she was saying, so Sam clarified that he'd had a twin brother. Sam then explained that Heather had sold Jason's brother to a nurse named Betsy Frank. Jason immediately recognized the name of Franco's mother. "Franco was my brother?" Jason asked. Jason insisted that Heather had lied, and then reminded Sam that Heather was insane. Sam explained that she had confirmed everything with Betsy, and that Betsy had given her proof that Franco had indeed been Jason's twin. Sam revealed that Franco had found out about Jason when Franco had been a teenager, and that had led to Franco's obsession with Jason. "You'll never know," Jason quietly said. Sam was curious what Jason meant by that, so Jason confessed that those had been Franco's last words to him. Jason was stunned to realize that he had killed his own brother. Sam quickly reminded Jason that Jason hadn't known that at the time, and that it wouldn't have mattered because of everything that Franco had done. Jason realized that Franco's biological connection to him might have affected the results of the paternity test. Sam admitted that she'd had a second paternity test, and she handed him the results as she revealed, "The baby is Franco's." 4/19 At the penthouse, Jason stared at the results of the paternity test that showed that there was a 99.999% probability that Robert "Franco" Frank was the father of Sam's baby. "I'm so sorry," Sam tearfully said. Sam explained that the first test had been a false-positive match, so Jason wondered if it were possible that the second test was also wrong. Sam shook her head, and then explained that she'd had the paternity test done on Jason and Franco's DNA samples. "How?" Jason asked. Sam admitted that she had obtained Franco's DNA sample from a contact at the FBI, who had investigated Franco at one time. Sam then revealed that she had given both samples to Kelly. Jason suddenly realized why Kelly had seemed confused about Sam's appointment; Sam hadn't had one. "Yes," Sam quietly admitted. "So you lied to me, again," Jason accused his wife. Sam assured Jason that she had intended to tell him everything after she had received the results of the paternity test. Sam explained that she had hoped to spare Jason the pain of wondering if Franco were the baby's father when she revealed that Franco had been Jason's brother. Jason resented Sam keeping him in the dark once again, because of a desire to protect him. Sam argued that she had been hoping to give Jason some good news. "I was coming from a good place. Please tell me you understand that," Sam pleaded. Jason felt as if Sam hadn't heard him when he had explained to her how he had felt after he had discovered that she had lied to him about Robin. He wondered if she had thought that he couldn't handle the truth, but Sam insisted that she hadn't wanted him to suffer. "So you suffered alone," Jason replied. He reminded her that they were supposed to lean on each other for support, so he couldn't understand why she couldn't talk him, yet she had been able to talk to a stranger like John McBain. Sam assured Jason that she had struggled with her choices. She explained that she had been afraid, because she hadn't wanted to see the look that he had in his eyes at that moment. Jason realized that they needed to face the reality that he wasn't the baby's father. "So now what?" Sam asked. She wondered if Jason could love the baby and be a part of its life. Jason didn't immediately reply, so she worried that the idea made him sick. Jason pointed out that he hadn't said that. Sam had no idea why she was looking to Jason for answers, since she didn't have any either. She confessed that she didn't want the baby to be Franco's, and that she desperately wanted to go back to when they had been happy and excited about the baby. Jason admitted that he hated the idea that Franco had been his brother, and that she was pregnant with Franco's child. He also despised what Franco had done to her. "Us," Sam corrected Jason. Jason ignored her remark, as he admitted that what he hated most was that she had chosen to go through everything alone. Sam wondered what they were going to do. "I don't know," Jason admitted. Sam asked Jason to hold her. When he didn't immediately reach for her, she added, "Please." Jason opened his arms, so Sam stepped into them, and then wept on his shoulder. 4/20 Jason and Sam lamented the fact that Franco was indeed the father of Sam's baby. Sam wondered whether Franco might have turned out differently had Heather not sold him to another woman. If Susan had raised Jason and Franco together, maybe Franco might not have ended up a psychopath, Sam thought. Jason worried, "What if the baby turns out to be like Franco?" Sam implored Jason to accept that he was her baby's father in every way that mattered. Jason expressed his frustration that Sam hadn't gone to him the moment she'd learned Franco was his brother, but he acknowledged that Sam had been dealing with a heavy burden. Jason told Sam that Kate wanted them to attend Sonny's birthday party. Neither was in the mood, but they decided the party would make for a good distraction.
Sam and Jason arrived at Sonny’s birthday party at the Metro Court. Sam went to see her mother, and Jason left to find Sonny. Sonny assured Jason that Kate was fine. In another room, Connie grabbed a knife and attacked Sonny's cake with it. 4/23 Back at Sonny's party, a glum Sam asked an equally glum Jason if he wanted to go home. Sam said that there were so many things that they had not discussed, such as what Edward and Monica would say when they found out that Jason had a twin. Jason said he could not think about the consequences. He said that they had attended the party to get away from thinking. Jason said that what Sam had found out would affect the rest of their lives and that they would have to find a way to go on. Alexis joined them and said that she had to warn them about Molly, who was enthusiastically making lists of very unusual baby names. Alexis said that making lists of baby names was a very happy time, but when she suggested that they name the baby Jason Junior and call him J.J., Jason walked away. Alexis was perplexed and asked if everything was okay with the baby. Sam said that the baby was fine, but that Jason did not want to talk about the baby any longer. Alexis wondered if Jason was having second thoughts because of his job and Robin's death. Sam admitted that Jason was having second thoughts. Alexis comforted Sam and told her that everything would work itself out. Alexis said that she would respect Sam's wishes, but she knew that something was going on that Sam did not want to confide in her. Alexis assured Sam that when the time arose that Sam did want to talk, Alexis would be there for her. Jason sat down with Michael and asked if he was okay with the verdict in Sonny's trial. Michael said that he had been convinced of Sonny's innocence all along and that Jason had helped when he told Michael that Sonny could not look Michael in the eyes and say that he was innocent if he had been responsible for the deaths of Hope and Cole. Michael told Jason that he would soon know about the father-son bond. When Jason seemed uncomfortable, Michael asked if Jason was okay. Jason said that talking about the baby was stressful. Michael told Jason that he would be an awesome dad and said that Jason had been great to Michael. Michael continued that it took a very special person to raise another man's kid. Michael joined Alexis and Sam and told Sam how pretty she looked. Alexis confirmed that Sam was glowing. Michael asked if Sam was as tired of the baby talk as Jason was. Sam said that they had been through a lot. Michael told her that they could put all the bad stuff behind them and start a new chapter. Alexis walked over to Jason and told him that whatever was going on with the baby, he had to stop shutting Sam out, or Sam would continue to confide in strangers like John McBain. That got Jason's attention and he asked what Alexis meant about John McBain. 4/24 At the Metro Court Restaurant, Michael reminded Sam that Franco was dead, so Sam and Jason were free to start a new chapter in their lives with the baby. Sam smiled politely, as she glanced at a nearby table where Jason was talking to Alexis. Sam quietly admitted that she hoped that Michael was right. Meanwhile, Alexis urged Jason not to shut Sam out, so that Sam wouldn't feel compelled to talk to strangers, like John McBain. Jason wondered what John had to do with anything. He assumed that Alexis had been referring to the time that Sam had met John in the church, following Robin's funeral. Alexis had no idea what Jason was talking about, so Jason asked her to clarify her remark. Alexis suggested that Jason go to the source, and ask his wife. Carly approached Sam at the bar to remark that it appeared that Sam and Jason had made up. Sam had no idea what Carly was talking about, so Carly reminded Sam about Sam's decision not to tell Jason about Robin's death. Carly insisted that it had been a big deal for Jason to forgive Sam for lying to him, because Jason resented people making decisions for him under the guise of protecting him. Sam defended her decision, and then informed Carly that she had no desire to talk to Carly. Carly suggested that Sam didn't seem to want to talk to anyone recently, including Jason, so Carly was curious whom Sam confided things to. Carly warned Sam that keeping secrets would only make things worse. "You would know," Sam shot back. Carly observed that Sam seemed troubled, but Sam argued that the only thing that was bothering her was the headache that Carly was giving her. Carly saw through the lie, but let the matter drop when Jason walked up. Carly cheerfully greeted Jason, and then wondered why he hadn't returned any of her calls. Carly wondered if Jason was okay, but Jason assured her that he was fine. Carly didn't believe him, so she suggested that he talk to his wife, and then left. Jason wondered what Carly had meant by that, but Sam dismissed it as Carly being Carly. According to Sam, Carly had the impression that Carly knew Jason better than Sam did. Jason conceded that Carly knew him well. Sam insisted that the only thing that Carly had been right about was that Jason was clearly not okay. She wondered if perhaps it had to do with the baby, and then offered to talk to him about it, but Jason explained that he was more concerned about John McBain. Jason recounted his conversation with Alexis regarding Sam confiding to John. Sam initially tried to dismiss what Alexis had said, but then admitted that she had bumped into John at Alexis' house a few days earlier. Jason wondered why Sam hadn't mentioned it before, so Sam explained that there hadn't been anything to tell. Jason warned Sam that John would use anyone, including Sam, to get to Sonny, so he wanted to know exactly what Sam and John had discussed. Sam explained that John had been looking for Alexis to discuss a restraining order, but refrained from telling Jason the rest. Michael and Alexis approached Sam and Jason to tell them that the party was over. Michael confessed that he was concerned, because someone had destroyed the birthday cake, and Sonny and Kate were missing. Alexis was stunned when Jason and Michael decided to look for Sonny. Alexis couldn't believe that Jason would abandon his pregnant wife at the party, but Sam assured her mother that it was fine. After Jason and Michael left, Alexis demanded to know what was going on between Sam and Jason. Sam explained that she and Jason were dealing with some things, and then admitted that it hadn't helped that Alexis had told Jason about John McBain. Sam wanted to know what Alexis had said to Jason. Alexis explained that she had advised Jason to be more supportive of Sam, so that Sam wouldn't feel the need to turn to strangers to talk to. Sam was upset that her mother had said that Jason, but Alexis insisted that she had been concerned about her daughter. Sam appreciated Alexis looking out for her, but she was curious if it had occurred to Alexis that Jason might be upset about Sam talking to John. Alexis suggested that Sam start talking to her, so that Alexis would know what secrets to keep. Sam realized that her mother had been looking out for her, so she told Alexis that she had met John in the church, following Robin's funeral. Alexis was certain that Sam and Jason would work through their problems because Sam and Jason loved each other and the baby. Alexis offered to take Sam to a place that served chocolate mousse cake, but Sam insisted on waiting for Jason to return. Jason and Michael arrived at Sonny’s. Max immediately informed Jason about John's visit, and the search warrant. Max revealed that the FBI was backing John, which triggered Jason's memory about Sam's confession that a contact at the FBI had obtained a sample of Franco's DNA, so that Sam could have the second paternity test. Jason snapped back to the present, and then demanded that Max tell him everything about John's visit. Max showed Jason the present that John had left for Sonny, and the search warrant. Jason was furious when Max admitted that John had wandered through the house alone. Max explained that he hadn't been able to follow John, because Dr. Keenan had shown up looking for Kate. Michael revealed that something strange was going on, and then told Max about Sonny's birthday cake. Jason wondered if Kate had been acting oddly around Max, so Max admitted that she had been tense recently, but Max had attributed it to the stress of Sonny's trial. Jason was curious what Dr. Keenan had wanted with Kate, so Max explained that the doctor would only say that it was urgent and confidential. Jason decided to talk to Dr. Keenan, so he left. On the terrace, Sam gently rubbed her belly. "Hey, are you listening in there?" Sam asked her baby. She told her baby that one day the baby would see the stars in the sky. Sam confided that the stars had always been something that she had been able to count on to make her feel safe, until she had met Jason. She confessed to her baby that she had never felt safer with anyone than she did in Jason's arms. Sam recalled years earlier, when Jason had admitted that Sam made him feel happy, content, and at peace, so Sam had revealed that she had finally learned what it meant to be home when she was with him. Sam returned to the present to assure her baby that it would know those same feelings. She promised her child that Jason was a good person, and that he would be a great father. "I just don't want to lose him," Sam whispered. She then looked up at the night sky to beg for a sign that everything would be okay. Moments later, Sam heard footsteps behind her, so she looked over her shoulder, expecting to see Jason. Instead, John stood in the doorway. At the hospital, Jason spotted Elizabeth when he exited the elevator. He wondered if she knew where Dr. Keenan was. Elizabeth explained that Ewen had left to deal with a patient in crisis. Elizabeth started to walk away, but Jason asked for a minute of her time. Jason showed her a picture of John on his cell phone, and then wondered if John had been the man that Elizabeth had seen Sam talking to the other day. "What's this about?" Elizabeth asked, but Jason refused to explain. He just wanted to know if John had been the man that Elizabeth had seen Sam with. "Yes, that's him," Elizabeth admitted. 4/25 Elizabeth followed Jason to the hospital's rooftop, because she was concerned about him. "She's been lying to me," Jason confessed. Jason rambled about Sam turning to John with her problems, and obtaining a DNA sample from the police officer. Elizabeth was confused about why Sam would need a DNA sample. Elizabeth wondered if there were a problem with the baby, so Jason admitted that the baby wasn't his. Elizabeth was stunned when Jason told her that he had been forced to watch as Franco drugged and raped Sam during Jason and Sam's honeymoon in Hawaii. Jason confided that Sam had refused to get medical treatment after the rape, so Elizabeth admitted that she understood why Sam would be reluctant. Jason apologized, because he realized that he had dredged up memories of when Elizabeth had been raped. Elizabeth assured him that she was fine, and then confessed that she was glad that he had told her, because it gave her insight into what Jason and Sam had been dealing with. She pointed out that there wasn't any reason that Jason couldn't be a father to Sam's baby. Jason conceded that he might be a better man than he had thought, so perhaps Elizabeth was right. Elizabeth insisted that she didn't have any doubts, and then reminded him of how he had loved Michael. However, she urged Jason to talk to Sam to work things out. Jason's temper flared, because the problem was that Sam had confided to John, not to Jason. Jason told Elizabeth about Sam's encounters with John since meeting John at the Queen of Angels church, following Robin's funeral. Jason was hurt, because Sam had told John about Franco before she said anything to Jason. Elizabeth suggested that perhaps Sam had been trying to protect Jason, but Jason insisted that it was merely an excuse for lying. Elizabeth argued that Jason didn't know that, so Jason reminded her that he didn't know anything, because Sam confided to John, not Jason. Elizabeth advised Jason to talk to Sam about it, but Jason didn't want to hear any more lies. Elizabeth insisted that Jason needed to tell Sam how he felt, so Jason agreed. After Jason left, Elizabeth looked up at the night sky, and then asked Robin to watch over Jason. "He needs us," Elizabeth told her friend. On the terrace at Metro Court Restaurant, Sam wondered why John McBain had appeared when she had prayed for a sign that everything would be okay with her, Jason, and the baby. John apologized for disappointing her, and then suggested that "the man upstairs" had a wicked sense of humor. Sam smiled, and then admitted that she had been asking for the impossible, because the only way for things to be okay were if Franco hadn't fathered her child. Sam changed the subject to ask what John was doing there. John confided that he had heard about Sonny's birthday party, but it appeared that he had missed it. John realized that Sam had told Jason about Franco, and the baby's paternity. Sam confessed that Jason hadn't taken the news well, and that Jason had been upset that she had dealt with it alone. She admitted that she hadn't been able to tell Jason that John had helped her through it. Sam appreciated that Jason had a lot to absorb, but she was disappointed that Jason hadn't been able to assure her that he could love her baby even though it was another man's child. John advised Sam to give it some time, but Sam argued that her child wasn't to blame for the circumstances of its conception. John insisted that the baby was the best part of Sam, and that he was certain that Jason would eventually realize that. Sam confided that John was saying everything that she wanted and needed to hear from Jason. Sam didn't want to lie to Jason, but she admitted that he was unreasonable about John. John didn't blame Jason, because Jason knew that John was in town with the intention of taking Sonny down. Sam regretted that she couldn't tell Jason how much John had done for her. John reminded Sam that she had always intended to tell Jason about Franco and the baby's paternity. Sam thanked John for providing her with Franco's DNA sample, but John was sorry that it had caused problems for her and Jason.Sam was curious why John always seemed to be on hand when she had bad news. She suspected that the universe was throwing them together. John confessed that it was unexpected. Sam thought that it was strange, because John felt familiar to her, as if she had known him. "Is it crazy, or do you feel the same way?" Sam wondered. "You're not crazy," John replied. Sam suggested that she and John were clearly on some sort of collision course, and then wondered what he was doing in Port Charles. John revealed that he had another matter to attend to, but only a short time in which to do it. "Whatever this crazy connection between us is, it'll be broken when my business with Sonny is finished," John told her. Shortly after John left, Sam turned and saw Jason standing in the doorway. 4/26 On the terrace at Metro Court Restaurant, Sam was glad that Jason had returned. She was curious if he had found Sonny and Kate. Jason told her that he hadn't, so Sam wondered if Jason thought that something might be wrong. Jason admitted that there was something wrong; he and Sam were falling apart. Sam assumed that Jason was referring to Franco being the baby's father, so she quickly assured him that their marriage was strong, and that, together, they could get through it and raise the baby. Jason wondered how they could make things work when she continually kept Jason in the dark. Sam tearfully assured Jason that she had only delayed telling him about Franco, and the baby's paternity until she had all of the answers because she had wanted to spare Jason any unnecessary pain. Jason confessed that he hated that she had gone through all of that alone, but then realized that she hadn't been alone. "Where you?" he demanded. Sam suggested that they go home to talk things out, but Jason wanted an answer. He asked if she had been alone when she had gone to get the paternity test. Sam explained that she had been reeling from the news that Franco was Jason's twin when she had run into John at Alexis' house, and that everything had spilled out before she had realized it. Jason wondered why she hadn't confided to Alexis, or to Jason. "Okay, you're right, I needed him," Sam defiantly admitted. Jason demanded to know if Sam had seen John after that. Sam was forced to tell Jason that she had bumped into John on the piers, after she had received the results of the second paternity test. Jason begged her to tell him that she hadn't shared the results of the paternity test with John, but Sam tearfully confessed that she had. She explained that she had been tempted to throw them, unopened, into the water, so that Jason wouldn't lose the baby that he had loved. However, John had given her the courage to read the results, and to tell Jason the truth. Sam insisted that it had been the last time that she had seen John, but then amended her remark by admitting that John had been on the terrace earlier that evening. Jason wanted to know what they had talked about, so Sam revealed that she had confessed that she feared that Jason couldn't love the baby. "Don't turn this around on me," Jason warned Sam. He insisted that his anger wasn't about the baby, but about her lying to him and shutting him out. Jason resented that Sam had confided to someone that Jason had specifically asked her not to talk to. Jason started to leave. "Jason," Sam cried out. Jason suggested that if she wanted to talk to someone, then she should find John. After Jason left, Sam appeared devastated as she stood on the terrace alone. 5/1 Carly knocked on Jason and Sam's penthouse door. Sam opened the door, so Carly marched into the penthouse, as she explained that she was there to see Jason. Sam revealed that Jason wasn't home. Carly assumed that Jason had been doing something for Sonny until she noticed Sam's troubled expression. Carly wondered if Jason and Sam had argued, but Sam ignored the question to remind Carly that Carly had a boyfriend to turn to when Carly needed help with problems. Carly admitted that she had ended things with Johnny after catching him in bed with Kate. Carly embarked on a tirade about how Johnny had played her, and then ended her rant with the comment that, at least, she hadn't fallen in love with Johnny. Sam suspected that the opposite was true; Carly had fallen in love with Johnny. Carly revealed that perhaps Luke had been correct to suspect that Johnny had been a replacement for Jax. Carly confided that it was her and Jax's fifth anniversary. According to Carly, she had planned to sign the divorce papers, so she had gone to Johnny's to share the news with him, but had been surprised to find Johnny in bed with Kate. Carly suddenly realized that she had shared too much information with Sam, but Sam suggested that sometimes it was easier to share something personal with someone that they shouldn't. Carly sensed that Sam was no longer referring to Carly's situation. It dawned on Carly that Jason might not be at home for another reason. Sam admitted that Carly was free to say, "I told you so." Carly wondered what had happened, so Sam explained that she had made everything worse with Jason by trying to protect him again. Carly assured Sam that Jason loved Sam, and that nothing could drive Jason away from his marriage, because Jason had made a promise to Sam. Sam appreciated the support, so she admitted that she was confident that Carly would get through the disappointing breakup with Johnny, because no one could take Carly down. "Oh, God, I think we just had a girlfriend moment, " Carly said with horror. Carly suggested that they pretend that the conversation had never happened, so that they could return to hating each other. "Please. I've already started," Sam replied. Carly walked to the door, but then stopped to assure Sam that Jason would return. Sam smiled, and then thanked Carly. At Greystone Manor, Jason was relieved when he saw Sonny sitting in the parlor. Jason explained that he and Michael had been concerned, after Sonny had disappeared from the birthday party. Sonny revealed that he had walked in on Johnny and Kate in bed together. Jason insisted that it didn't make any sense, because Kate loved Sonny. Sonny clarified that the affair had been going on for four months, and that he suspected that Kate had wanted to punish him for nearly getting her killed on their wedding day. Jason remained skeptical, and suggested that perhaps something else had been going on with Kate. Jason confessed that he had asked Spinelli to dig into Kate's medical records, and that Ewen had been ready commit Kate to Shadybrook, but Sonny brushed it off. Sonny resented that Kate had lied to him, and wondered if Jason knew what it felt like. Sonny was surprised when Jason admitted that he did. Sonny was curious what was going on with Jason and Sam, so Jason revealed that the baby wasn't his, and that Jason had been forced to watch while Franco raped Sam. Sonny urged Jason to talk to Sam about it, but Jason explained that Sam had been turning to John McBain for solace. Sonny was certain that John had ulterior motives for lending Sam a sympathetic shoulder. Jason agreed. Sonny assured Jason that Jason and Sam would be able to work things out, but Jason confided that Sam questioned Jason's ability to love the baby. Jason then quietly admitted that a part of him wondered if he would be able to look at the baby without being reminded of what had happened to Sam. Jason realized that it wasn't fair to Sam or the baby. Sonny didn't know what to say, except that it wasn't the child's fault. Jason then revealed that it would help if they could find something to use against John, so that they could get John out of their lives. Sonny warned Jason that McBain was squeaky-clean, so it wouldn't be easy. However, Sonny advised Jason not to let John get between Jason and Sam. Jason quickly turned the conversation back to Sonny and Kate. Sonny admitted that Dr. Keenan had left a message, so Jason suggested that Sonny return the doctor's call.
5/2 At the penthouse, Sam put down the figurines of the dragon and the phoenix when Jason arrived home. Sam was curious if Jason were there to stay, but Jason didn't answer. Sam suggested that it was a simple question, but Jason argued that nothing was simple, because she had shared everything with John McBain, not her husband. Sam assured Jason that she would gladly change things, if she could, but that was impossible, so they should focus on moving forward. She insisted that what mattered was that Jason knew everything about Franco and the baby, so they could forget about John. Jason explained that it was impossible, because John was everywhere. Sam's temper flared as she accused Jason of being a hypocrite, because she couldn't confide to John, yet Jason didn't mind Elizabeth, a woman with whom Jason had history, sticking her nose in their business. Jason quickly clarified that Elizabeth had defended Sam to Jason. Jason then revealed that he had opened up to Elizabeth, because Elizabeth had noticed Jason's troubled expression after Jason had showed Elizabeth the picture of John. Sam conceded that neither John nor Elizabeth was the problem, Sam and Jason were. Sam confessed that she felt like Jason looked at her as if she were tainted. Sam needed to know how Jason felt about the baby. "Will you, or will you not, be able to love this child as if it were your own?" Sam asked. Jason asked what Sam wanted to hear, but he admitted that he needed more time. Frustrated, Sam asked how much more time Jason would need, and then wondered if he would know by the time she gave birth, or when the baby was a couple of months old. Sam insisted that she was able to give their child the love that it deserved, but Jason reminded her that it wasn't their child. Jason explained that he couldn't pretend that Franco hadn't been a part of creating the child. Sam was crushed, but insisted that the baby needed Jason's love, patience, and protection. "Please, tell me that you can give all of that," Sam pleaded. "I can't," Jason quietly replied. Sam refused to believe that, because he had been able to love Michael. Jason revealed that he was afraid that the baby would be a constant reminder of what Franco had done to Sam. Sam admitted that she couldn't walk away from her baby, because it was a part of her. Sam reminded Jason that the baby was innocent; it hadn't asked to be conceived. Jason insisted that he just needed more time to think things over, so Sam decided that it would be for the best for her to move out. Later, Sam returned to the living room with her packed bag. Jason wanted Sam to stay at the penthouse, but Sam refused. Jason wondered if she intended to go to Alexis' house, but Sam wasn't ready to answer a lot of uncomfortable questions, so she promised to call Jason when she found a place. At the door, Sam quietly told Jason that she loved him, and then left. "I love you too," Jason replied after the door closed. He looked at the two figurines, and then recalled when he and Sam had exchanged the special presents. He pushed the memory aside, and then set the phoenix on the mantel, in front of Sam's picture. Dvd #32B 5/3 At a local motel, John was on the phone with Natalie when he spotted Sam in the hallway. John heard Liam calling for Natalie, so he promised to call Natalie back later. After John disconnected the call, he asked what Sam was doing at the motel. Sam admitted that she had left Jason, "because of you." John was surprised, so Sam explained that she had confided things to John that she should have first talked to Jason about. Sam then quietly added that she had lost Jason's trust. Sam pulled the dragon figurine out of her pocket. John wondered what it was, so Sam told him what the dragon and the phoenix symbols signified to her and Jason. Sam suspected that Jason might have understood her decisions if she hadn't shared the results of the paternity test with John. John felt bad for causing problems between Jason and Sam, but Sam assured him that he was not to blame. Sam explained that the real problem was that Jason wasn't sure if he would be able to love the baby, so Sam had decided to give them some time to sort things out. John was curious which room Sam was staying in. "204," Sam answered, holding up her key. John showed her his key, and then revealed that he was staying in the room next to Sam. John feared that it might not be a good idea, but Sam was too tired to look for another place to stay, and her room had been the last one available. Suddenly, they heard a television blare in a nearby room. Sam was curious if it were a common occurrence. John admitted that the place was usually quiet. Sam shrugged her shoulders, and then wondered where the vending machines were. She decided to stock up on snacks, since she would be up for most of the night. John pointed her in the right direction, and then knocked on the door of the room with the loud television. In an undisclosed motel room, Ronnie put on a cartoon to keep Lulu busy, and then went to take a shower. Lulu used her feet to scooch the remote close enough to turn up the volume on the television. Moments later, Ronnie ran into the room with a towel wrapped around his hips. He was furious, because he realized that Lulu had intended to draw someone to the door. John McBain knocked on the door. Ronnie and John had never met, so they didn't recognize each other. John asked Ronnie to turn the volume on the television down, because there was a pregnant woman in a nearby room who needed her rest. Ronnie snidely informed John, "I didn't knock her up," and then tried to close the door. John used his foot to keep the door from closing. John ordered Ronnie to turn the volume down, but Ronnie threatened to put a hole in John's foot if John didn't move it. John decided to back away, so Ronnie slammed the door shut. Moments later, John's phone rang. It was Anna. She asked John to meet her at the hotel, because she needed his help. After John ended the call, Sam returned, munching on a bag of cheese curls. John plucked the bag out of Sam's hand, urged her to eat something healthy for the baby's sake, and then left. In the hallway, Ronnie and Sam were startled when they bumped into each other. Ronnie remarked that it appeared that Sam and Jason's honeymoon was over, "and with a bun in the oven, no less." Sam ignored the callous comment, and asked if Ronnie were there because of the noise complaint. Ronnie assured her that he had taken care of it, but Sam heard a loud thump in the room. She urged Ronnie to check it out, but he dismissed it. Sam decided that she would investigate, so Ronnie grabbed her arm, and then in a menacing tone told her, "I'm afraid I can't let you do that." A short time later, John returned to the motel. He drew his gun as he approached the door, but stopped when Dante suddenly rounded the corner. Dante made it clear that he was there to save Lulu, so John and Dante quietly crept to the door. Dante kicked in the door, and then followed John into the room. 5/4 Dante and John gathered evidence in the room where Ronnie had held Lulu. John offered to help Dante find her. John found evidence that led him to believe Ronnie had taken Sam as a second hostage. John suggested that, with two hostages, Ronnie would not likely have gotten far. John noticed a matchbook from the Haunted Star and asked if Dante was familiar with it. Dante explained it was a casino on a yacht that belonged to Lulu's father. Dante noticed that Lulu's keys were missing, and she'd have to have them to get into the casino. Dante wanted to call Jason to have him meet them there, but John stated that Jason didn't belong there, because he wasn't a cop. At the Haunted Star, Ronnie had Sam and Lulu tied up. He taunted them, telling them they were powerless. Lulu told him that having kidnapped a cop's wife and the wife of a mob enforcer ensured that he'd end up with a bullet between his eyes.Sam told Ronnie that John, an ex-FBI agent, knew she was missing. Sam and Lulu suggested that Ronnie leave town. Ronnie said he didn't have a choice, he'd have to kill them. Sam carefully worked one hand free of its bonds. Dante and John arrived and observed from outside the main room. Carly admitted to Jason that he'd been right about Johnny. She blamed herself for having believed in Johnny. At least he had not taken Michael into the business, she told Jason. "I don't understand why it's hurting so bad," Carly cried. Jason expressed that Kate had been acting strangely and was surprised that she'd hurt Sonny by sleeping with Johnny. Carly laughed and replied that it hadn't, according to Johnny, been Kate but her alter-ego, Connie. Carly scoffed at the notion, but Jason was intrigued. Jason asked Carly if Johnny might have been telling the truth, and she answered that Johnny had seemed sincere. Jason said that he was leaning toward believing the scenario. Carly remembered that she'd seen Kate's medical record and that there was a document in the file that referred to Kate's DID diagnosis. All Carly knew was that it was an acronym for something that meant split personality. "Obviously, Dr. Keenan thinks she's dangerous, and I'm starting to wonder if he's right," declared Jason. Jason explained that Kate had become increasingly erratic. He told Carly that Kate had gone ballistic when he'd questioned her about the gun found in her office. "You think the gun is Kate's?" wondered Carly. "No," Jason replied. "Maybe it was Connie's," he theorized. Carly let Jason know that Kate/Connie had headed to the airport. Jason rushed out. 5/27 On the Haunted Star outside the room where Ronnie was holding Sam and Lulu hostage, Dante and John McBain made a plan to capture Ronnie. Inside the casino room, Ronnie held a gun on Lulu who was tied hand and foot, and Sam who was tied up and also handcuffed to a rail. As Ronnie prepared to shoot them, he blamed Lulu for sticking her nose in where it did not belong. Before Ronnie could shoot, Lulu distracted him by asking why he had attacked the dancers. Dante burst in and said he also wanted to know the answer to that question. Dante told Ronnie to drop his gun, but Ronnie told Dante that the only way that Dante could save Lulu was to drop his gun. When Dante put his gun on the floor, Sam noticed that John had circled around and was hiding behind a curtain at the main entrance to the room. Dante told Ronnie that he could not get away with killing three people because too many others knew that Lulu was missing and that Ronnie was the perpetrator. Dante told Ronnie to let the women go and to take Dante as the hostage instead. Ronnie refused and said he would kill all three if it took that to make sure that he stayed free. Dante asked what had happened to Ronnie, whom Dante had know and admired all his life. When Dante said that Ronnie had had a good life, Ronnie angrily replied that Dante had had the good life. Ronnie was bitter when he said that his wife had turned out to be a whore who would sleep with anyone, just like the dancers that Ronnie had attacked. Dante told Ronnie that he would get him help. Ronnie said that there was no help because Ronnie had framed and later killed a man named Donofrio for the attacks. Ronnie blamed Padilla and Dante, who had not let the attacks rest, for uncovering Donofrio's alibi and clearing him as a suspect. Ronnie also blamed Dante because he had found the footprints in the alley and had taken his cell phone, which contained the pictures of the footprints, to Sonny's party. Dante realized that Ronnie, not one of the Zaccharas, had tried to kill him in the parking garage on the night of Sonny's party because Dante had been getting too close to the truth. Dante asked Ronnie if he was aware of the events that had been set in motion when Dante's father had taken the bullet meant for Dante. Ronnie jumped on the word, "father," and wondered what had happened to "Sonny, the murdering bastard" whom Dante was supposed to put in prison. Dante said that Ronnie was the reason that Sonny had gone after Anthony, and Ronnie was the one responsible for the deaths of Hope and Cole. Ronnie said that Dante had just proved why there was no way out for Ronnie. Dante said that Ronnie could go for an insanity plea, but Ronnie said there was no way he was going to end up in Ferncliff. While Dante distracted Ronnie, Lulu and Sam managed to untie their bonds. Before they could get away, Lulu made a noise, and Ronnie turned and fired at her. John emerged from hiding and fired at Ronnie. Dante rushed to protect Sam and Lulu, who had been grazed by Ronnie's first shot. As Ronnie and John exchanged gunfire, Dante was able to get Lulu out of the Haunted Star, but Sam was still handcuffed, and Ronnie grabbed her. John told him that Dante would call the cops, who would be there in a few minutes. Ronnie scoffed and said that Dante would not call anyone because he had escaped from lockup and was a fugitive himself. Ronnie pointed at Sam's baby bump and asked if John wanted to be responsible for the death of two hostages. Sam begged Ronnie to spare her baby, but Ronnie kept the gun at her head. Sam said that she was feeling sick. When she suddenly dropped to her knees, John shot Ronnie. Jason found Connie at the airport and asked her what was going on. She pretended to be Kate and said that she was leaving on business. Jason said that she was not going anywhere. He confronted her about being Connie. Jason said that he had heard the whole story from Carly and knew that Connie had deliberately slept with Johnny to ensure that Sonny would never forgive Kate. Jason asked if Connie had been the one who had shot out Anthony's tires. Connie made a joke and said that she had also murdered Jimmy Hoffa, and then asked Jason what she looked like. He responded that she looked like a person with an illness. Connie started calling for security when Jason wanted to take her to General Hospital, but the woman who had initially recognized her said that Connie had been talking to herself and did seem disturbed. Connie tried to brush past Jason, and when he shoved her back in her seat, Kate emerged and tearfully asked what Connie had done and if Connie had hurt anyone. Jason told Kate that everything would be okay. Kate said that the last thing that she remembered was being in Dr. Keenan's office where she was seeking help for her condition. Kate asked if Sonny knew. When Jason said, "Not yet," Kate begged him to take her to Dr. Keenan. Jason took Kate to GH. When they asked to see Dr. Keenan, Elizabeth was surprised. She told them that Ewen had been attacked in his office and had a severe brain injury. Kate cried out that Connie had done it and that had been what Connie had meant when she said that it would be a long time before Dr. Keenan was treating patients. Elizabeth said that Kate was talking like Connie was another person. Jason said that Connie was another person and that Kate needed to see a staff psychiatrist. Elizabeth left to find an appropriate doctor for Kate. The police found Kate and said that they needed to question her. Jason said that Kate was there for treatment. Jason called Sonny and told him that there was an emergency at GH, and Sonny needed to be there. Kate said that she had waited too long to tell Sonny about her condition and that he would never forgive her. Jason assured Kate that Sonny could well understand the crazy things that people did when they were ill. Dante arrived with Lulu, who had been grazed on the arm by a bullet. When Jason asked what had happened, Dante said that Ronnie was still holding Sam hostage on the Haunted Star. Jason rushed out. Dante wanted a doctor, but Lulu said her injury was just a scratch. He wanted to know how Lulu could be so calm. She said it was because she had been much more frightened a few hours earlier and by comparison, it was not serious. John McBain comforted Sam as Ronnie lay on the floor. John told Sam that he would not have taken the shot if she had been in harm's way. Sam cried with relief as John complimented her for dropping down and getting out of the way so that he could shoot Ronnie. John was hugging Sam when Jason walked in and found them together. 5/8 At the Haunted Star, Sam stared at Ronnie's dead body, while she quietly thanked John McBain for saving her life. John put his arms around Sam, and gently rocked her, as he reminded her that she and her baby were unharmed. "Because of you," Sam insisted. Jason stopped short when he entered the casino and saw his wife in John's arms. Seconds later, Sam and John looked up. Jason approached Sam, and asked her if she was okay. Jason explained that he had been at the hospital when Dante and Lulu had arrived. Teary-eyed, Sam explained that Ronnie had been responsible for the attacks on the dancers. John quickly excused himself to give Jason and Sam some privacy, so Jason again asked how Sam was doing. Sam assured him that she was fine, as was the baby, if he were interested. Sam then revealed the details about Ronnie's intention to shoot her and the baby. Jason was curious how John had become involved, so John admitted that he also had a room at the motel. Jason immediately accused John of trying to use Sam to get to Jason, because John was determined to go after Sonny, but Sam insisted that it had been a coincidence. John pointed out that he had been living at the motel for several weeks, so he had no idea that Sam would eventually rent a room. Sam reminded Jason that if it hadn't been for John, Ronnie would have killed Sam and Lulu. Moments later, Delores arrived, and then declared the casino a crime scene. John urged Sam to go to the hospital to be checked out, so Sam reluctantly left. Jason remained behind to talk to John, but John had to answer Delores' questions first. John gave Delores a brief accounting of the events that had transpired, so Delores asked John to stop by the station. After the coroner took away Ronnie's body, John suggested that Jason go to Sam. Jason decided that it was time to set John straight about some things. Jason made it clear that he didn't like John hanging around Sam, nor John's interference in Jason and Sam's private business. Jason reminded John that Natalie and Liam were waiting for John in Llanview, but John made it clear that he wasn't leaving Port Charles until his job was done. John advised Jason to stay out of John's way, or Jason might end up behind bars with Sonny. Jason insisted that John didn't have any business investigating Sonny, but John claimed that his federal warrant suggested otherwise. John thought that it was touching how protective Jason was of Sonny, but John was curious what Sonny had done to earn such loyalty. Elizabeth was startled when she entered a room where Sam was waiting to be examined. Elizabeth wondered if Sam were okay, and then asked if Jason had found Sam. Sam curtly informed Elizabeth that Jason had caught up to Sam, and that Ronnie had been killed. Elizabeth revealed that Dante had mentioned that John had been at the Haunted Star. Sam credited John with saving her life, and then assured Elizabeth that it wouldn't be necessary for Elizabeth to run to Jason with the update, because Jason already knew. Elizabeth was taken aback by Sam's hostility, so she clarified that she hadn't gone to Jason with any information. Elizabeth explained that she had simply answered Jason's question. Sam revealed that she knew that Jason had confided everything to Elizabeth. Elizabeth felt bad for Sam, because she knew how difficult it was to deal with a rape, but Elizabeth couldn't imagine what it was like to discover that the rapist had fathered her child. Sam was livid, because even Alexis was unaware of what had happened, so it wasn't right that Elizabeth knew. Elizabeth was curious what Sam expected her to say. Sam was annoyed that Jason had been upset because Sam had "supposedly confided" to John McBain; however, Jason didn't have a problem talking to Elizabeth. Elizabeth reminded Sam that Elizabeth and Jason were friends. "Oh, that's right, friends," Sam snarked. Elizabeth had no idea what Sam was accusing her of, but she made it clear that she had no intention of getting between Jason and Sam. Elizabeth assured Sam that she was on Sam's side, but Sam said she didn't need Elizabeth fighting her battles. Sam was confident that she and Jason would work things out, so Elizabeth agreed, informed Sam that the baby was okay, and then left. At the Hudson Street motel, John spotted Sam in the hallway, so he called out to her. Sam assured him that she and the baby were fine, and then wondered how everything had gone between John and Jason. John joked that he had hoped to settle their differences by going bowling, but that wasn't likely to happen. Sam insisted that she couldn't thank John enough for saving her at the Haunted Star. John assured Sam that she had thanked him sufficiently, so Sam smiled and started to go to her room. John called out to Sam, and then produced the dragon figurine that he had found. He handed it to her, and then went to his own room. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Jason asked Elizabeth where Sam was. Elizabeth explained that Jason had just missed her, but Sam and the baby were fine. Later, Jason looked at the phoenix figurine. He was about to leave when Elizabeth approached. She was holding a bouquet of flowers. Jason noted that the flowers were nice. Elizabeth quietly explained that they were for Jake. Jason's eyes filled with unshed tears, as he realized that it was their son's birthday. "Five years old, can you imagine?" Elizabeth asked. Jason was curious what she thought Jake would be doing. Elizabeth chuckled, as she assured Jason that Jake would have been riding the two-wheeled scooter that she would have bought him. Elizabeth invited Jason to go to Jake's grave with her, so Jason accepted. 5/9 At Greystone Manor, Jason talked to Sonny about Kate's split personality. Sonny made it clear that he didn't believe Kate's claims, but Jason confessed that it appeared to be true. Sonny insisted that Kate had lied about it, but Jason argued that Kate had been a completely different person when Jason had first encountered her at the airport. Jason revealed that he had seen the transition between the personalities, so there was no doubt in Jason's mind that Kate had DID. Sonny insisted that Kate had been playing Jason, but Jason explained that Kate had been terrified when she had realized where she was, and she had been desperate to get to the hospital and to Sonny. Sonny admitted that he couldn't get the image of Kate in bed with Johnny out of his mind. Jason confessed that he had talked to Kate's psychiatrist, who had assured Jason that Kate had all the signs of multiple personalities. Sonny snidely commented that it meant that Kate had two personalities that Sonny couldn't trust. Jason was disappointed in Sonny's reaction, because Jason had thought that Sonny could appreciate that Kate had a mental illness. Sonny argued that his bipolar disorder was nothing like what Kate had, but Jason disagreed. Jason pointed out that there had been times when Sonny had felt like a different person. Sonny seemed startled, and decided to change the subject by asking how things were going between Jason and Sam. Jason wandered over to the bar, and then leaned down to pick up a bottle of water. Jason froze when he spotted a listening device planted under the bar. Jason quickly pulled it off, and then silently showed it to Sonny. Sonny continued the conversation, as if nothing were amiss, while Jason dropped the bug into a glass of water. Jason and Sonny quietly agreed that John McBain had planted the bug. Jason quickly checked the room for other listening devices, but didn't find any. Jason was frustrated, because he had instructed Max and Milo to sweep for listening devices every day. Jason was curious if Sonny had said anything that might be used against Sonny. Sonny admitted that he'd been too preoccupied with what had been going on with Kate to do business. Sonny sarcastically suggested that perhaps Kate had done Sonny a favor by sleeping with Johnny. Jason ignored the remark, as he promised to take care of John. Before Jason left, he urged Sonny to consider what Jason had said about Kate. "She needs help," Jason said, and then left. At the Rendezvous Motel, on Hudson Street, Sam surprised John with coffee to thank him for saving her life, and the life of her baby. John assured Sam that she had expressed her gratitude enough, and then scolded her for not resting. Sam admitted that she hadn't been able to sleep, even though she was exhausted. Sam changed the subject by asking what John had been listening to when she had arrived. John claimed that it had been jazz. John quickly surmised from her reaction that Sam wasn't a jazz fan. John smiled, and then wondered what kind of music Sam liked. Sam admitted that she enjoyed a variety of music, but preferred rock. John asked for her phone, so that he could download a couple of jazz songs that he insisted would change her mind and please the baby. Their conversation then turned to what had happened at the casino. Sam confessed that she had no idea what she would have done if something had happened to the baby. John chuckled, and then welcomed her to parenthood. Sam revealed that she had never stopped to ask herself if she could love her baby when she learned that Franco was the father. She had been too focused on whether or not Jason could accept the baby. Sam told John that she'd discovered the answer when Ronnie had threatened to shoot her; she couldn't imagine her life without her child. John suggested that sometimes the fear of losing something made a person appreciate what they had. Sam explained that Jason didn't feel that way, so she had no idea if Jason would be able to get past what Franco had done to her and Jason. John reminded Sam that she had moved out to give Jason some time to think things over, but Sam worried that nothing would change. Sam refused to be with a man who couldn't accept her baby, so she feared that she might end up alone. John assured Sam that would not happen. Moments later, Alexis called. Alexis was relieved to hear that Sam was okay, but she insisted on dropping by the apartment to check on Sam in person. Sam was forced to reveal that she had moved out and was staying at the Rendezvous Motel. Alexis was stunned, and immediately insisted that Sam move in with Alexis and Molly at the lake house. Sam made it clear that she preferred to stay at the motel. Alexis wondered if Sam's pregnancy had led to the strain in her marriage to Jason, or if John McBain had anything to do with it. Sam conceded that the baby was part of the reason that she had moved out, but insisted that John had nothing to do with it. Sam heard a beep, so Alexis explained that Sonny was calling. Sam urged her mother to talk to Sonny, and then ended the call. Sam warned John that there was a 99.9% probability that Alexis would show up at the motel within twelve-and-a-half minutes, or less. John smiled, and then thanked Sam for the coffee. Sam picked up her things, and followed John to the door. John promised to stop by her room later, to make certain that she listened to at least one of the jazz songs that he had downloaded for her. Sam and John's smiles froze when John opened the door to reveal Jason standing on the doorstep. Sam quickly assured Jason that nothing was going on between her and John, so Jason explained that he wasn't there to because of her. After Sam left, John invited Jason in. Jason held up the listening device, and then dropped it on John's desk. "I told you, you come at Sonny, you got to go through me first," Jason growled. 5/14 Inside Kelly's, Jason spotted Elizabeth, who was tending both Aiden and Emma. Emma was drawing pictures. When Jason approached, Elizabeth said that she was caring for Emma because Patrick was consulting at Mercy. When Elizabeth encouraged Emma to draw a picture for Patrick, Emma said that she wanted her mommy. Jason told Emma that her mommy, Robin, had been a friend to him and that Robin had taught him a lot of things, including how to play checkers and how to cook spaghetti. Jason said that he missed Emma's mommy. Emma said that her mommy was in heaven. Jason said that Robin still watched over Emma, and Emma agreed that she could feel Robin in her heart. Emma went back to drawing pictures while Jason and Elizabeth stood nearby and talked. Elizabeth thanked Jason for going to Jake's grave with her. Jason said it was no problem and that he liked hearing Elizabeth talk about Jake. The talk changed topic to Sam. Jason said that Sam had moved out and was staying at the same motel as John McBain. Elizabeth was surprised and thought that Sam would prefer to be near her family, but Jason said that John had saved Sam's life when Ronnie had held her at gunpoint, and he thought that Sam felt closer to McBain. Jason said that Sam did not need him right then. He said he had been truthful when Sam had asked if he could love her baby. Jason said that he did not know if he could love the baby because every time he thought about it, he saw Franco's face. Elizabeth said that sometimes people did not want the truth; they just wanted to know that everything was okay. Elizabeth added that Sam and Jason had a lot to work out, but that did not mean that they did not love each other. Jason acknowledged that he loved Sam but that they needed to be apart to work things out. Jason admitted that Sam had been right when she said that nothing was the baby's fault. Elizabeth told Jason that he would love the baby when it was born and he saw it for the first time. Elizabeth's phone rang. It was the hospital with an update on Dr. Keenan, who needed brain surgery. Elizabeth told Jason and added that she had known that Kate was sick, but was unsettled by the violence of the attack on Ewen Keenan. Luke and Anna entered Kelly's, Luke did not know what to expect from Jason, but Jason merely thanked Luke for the scholarship that he had set up in Jake's name. Luke was relieved. Jason left and stopped outside to make a call.
Sam knocked on John’s door. She wanted to know what John and Jason had discussed. John assured Sam that they had not been talking about her. He showed Sam the bug that Jason had found at Sonny's and returned to John. John said that the bug had not been meant for Jason. John said that he had been sending Sonny a message that he was not backing off. Sam confided that a part of her had hoped that Sonny would be convicted so that she could start a new life with Jason. When Sam asked why John was after Sonny, John said that Sonny had hurt someone he cared about and that he was running out of time to catch Sonny. The subject changed when Sam felt the baby move for the first time. John said that Sam should be sharing moments like that with Jason. Sam got a call from Molly, who was unaware that Jason and Sam had split up. Molly wanted to have a sleepover and orchestrate a celebration of Sam's birthday. Sam demurred and asked that they postpone it to another time, and Molly agreed. After the call was over, Sam said that Molly thought that Sam and Jason shared a fairy tale romance. Sam thought Alexis hoped that Sam and Jason would reconcile before Molly had to face the disappointment of their split. Sam said that she had not told Molly because she did not want to admit that it was the worst birthday of her life. As Sam was about to leave, John told her to wait. He sat her down in a chair and told her to close her eyes, which Sam did. John put a bar of motel soap in her hand and wished her a happy birthday. When Sam opened her eyes, John told her that everyone should have something to unwrap on their birthday. They shared a laugh, and John said that a birthday was a time to look forward to future happiness. As Sam reflected on that, Téa knocked on John's door. John made introductions, and Téa said that Sam's husband had to be be very happy. Sam said yes and that Téa's husband must also be happy. Téa replied that her husband had passed away a few months earlier. Then she told John that Todd was still in town. John said that he was not surprised. He asked if Téa could get Starr off. Téa said that she could if Todd did not pull anything. Sam excused herself and headed towards her room. Jason caught up with her in the hall and wished her a happy birthday. Sam asked if Jason wanted to visit her room and talk, but Jason declined and said that he had to go. Sam said okay and wished him a good day before Jason walked away. 5/15 At the penthouse, Jason stared at the phoenix figurine until Spinelli arrived seeking Jason's help. Spinelli handed a photograph to Jason, and then asked Jason to describe what Jason saw. Jason studied the picture for a moment, and then admitted that it looked like a dark-haired man holding a wrench, while in the process of striking Lisa Niles. Jason looked up, as it dawned on him that Spinelli had uncovered the identity of Lisa's killer. Spinelli was curious if Jason was able to identify the man. Jason studied the photograph, and then confessed that he couldn't. Spinelli was relieved, because it meant that the authorities wouldn't be able to figure out who had killed Lisa. Spinelli filled Jason in on Matt's role in Lisa's murder, and Maxie's request for Spinelli to keep quiet about it. Spinelli was delighted that he would be able to use the photograph as proof that Maxie hadn't killed Lisa without breaking his promise. Jason hoped that everything worked out, but it was a big risk, because the police might be able to enhance the picture. Spinelli appreciated the advice, but decided to change the subject by inquiring how things were going between Jason and Sam. Jason admitted that he had visited Sam on her birthday, but Jason hadn't stayed because he was reluctant to make any promises that he might not be able to keep. Spinelli had never given up hope of finding a way to free Maxie, even when it had seemed impossible, so Spinelli advised Jason not to give up on Jason's marriage. After Spinelli left, Jason looked forlornly at the phoenix figurine that was perched on the fireplace's mantel. At the hospital, Sam stared at the dragon figurine while she waited for Kelly to arrive for Sam's prenatal checkup. Kelly was curious if Sam had picked a birthing partner for the classes. Sam admitted that she had asked Alexis, because Jason was afraid that the baby would be a reminder of Franco, so Jason didn't know if he could love the baby. Kelly was certain that Jason just needed some time, but Sam doubted it would help, because things hadn't gone well when Jason had visited Sam on her birthday. Kelly felt bad for Sam, so she changed the subject by assuring Sam that Alexis would be a wonderful birthing partner. After the exam, Kelly advised Sam to avoid stress, because Sam's blood pressure was a little high. Kelly then glanced down at the chart to check Sam's blood work. Sam noticed that Kelly seemed concerned, so Sam wondered what was wrong. Kelly explained that Sam's iron levels were elevated, which might be an early indication of beta thalassemia. "Another curse from the Cassadines," Sam grumbled. Sam was curious if it was dangerous, so Kelly explained that it was treatable. Kelly assured Sam that they would test the baby after the baby was born. Meanwhile, Kelly wanted Sam to focus on having a healthy baby. After Kelly left, Sam looked down at the dragon figurine. 5/21 Molly started to kiss T.J., but they jumped apart when Sam arrived to pick up Alexis. Molly quickly explained that Alexis wasn't home, and that T.J. was there to study for a test. Sam smiled, and then revealed that she and Alexis were scheduled to attend a Lamaze class together. After T.J. left, Molly returned to the living room, and then promptly questioned why Alexis, not Jason, was going to the birthing class with Sam. Sam claimed that it had been Alexis' idea. Molly accepted the explanation, but suggested that Sam call Jason, since Alexis wasn't available. Sam admitted that she couldn't, because Sam and Jason were no longer together. Molly was stunned, so she demanded to know what had happened. Sam was reluctant to tell her teenage sister, but Molly insisted that she wasn't a child anymore. After some cajoling from Molly, Sam reluctantly confessed that Jason wasn't the baby's father, and then revealed the details of her rape. Molly was moved to tears, as Sam finished the story. Molly wanted to help her sister, so Sam admitted that it had helped to talk with Molly about it. Molly wished that she could rewind time, so that she could stop Sam and Jason from going to Hawaii, because they had been so happy that day. Sam agreed. After Molly fetched a glass of ginger ale for Sam, Molly assured her sister that Jason loved Sam. Molly was certain that Jason would also love the baby when he held it. Sam agreed, but explained that Jason had difficulty believing that, because the baby was a reminder of how he had failed to protect Sam. Molly insisted that it was ridiculous, because Franco had drugged Jason and Sam. Molly urged Sam to try to make things work with Jason, because Jason and Sam's love was special. Molly then offered to go to the Lamaze class with Sam, since Alexis wasn't around. Elizabeth bumped into Jason at GH. Moments later, a nurse recognized Jason, so she assumed that he was there for Sam's birthing class. The nurse started to lead Jason to the class, but Jason explained that he was not attending the class with his wife. The nurse seemed baffled, so she checked her list, which confirmed that Alexis would be Sam's birthing partner.
The nurse was embarrassed, so she quickly left. Elizabeth apologized for the awkward situation, but she was curious why Jason was there. Jason explained that he had seen a doctor for a six-week checkup and that he had been given a clean bill of health. Elizabeth was relieved, but she confessed that she was worried about Jason and Sam. She was curious if Jason and Sam could patch things up. Jason admitted that he had visited Sam on Sam's birthday, but they hadn't talked about the baby. Elizabeth realized that the rape and Franco's connection to Jason were a lot to process, but she insisted that it wasn't the baby's fault, so Jason and Sam needed to talk. Jason complained that Sam kept putting John McBain in the middle of things. Elizabeth explained that Sam had a lot going on, so she was emotional. Elizabeth admitted that sometimes it was easier to talk to a stranger, because they didn't have any preconceived notions. She recalled how easy it had been for her to open up to Ewen when she had met him, but Jason argued that Ewen was a psychiatrist. Elizabeth admitted that she hadn't known that at the time, so it had been easy to confide to him. She suggested that Sam might feel the same way about John. Jason conceded that Elizabeth had a point. Elizabeth pointed out that Jason loved Sam, so she was curious if he really thought that his marriage to Sam was over. Jason confessed that he didn't know, but he had been tempted to move forward when he had seen Sam on her birthday. However, nothing had changed about his feelings for the baby, so he couldn't make any promises to Sam. A short time later, Elizabeth walked Jason to the elevator and then decided to check on Ewen. Jason hoped that Ewen recovered quickly, for Elizabeth's sake. Elizabeth smiled and admitted that she hoped that everything worked out for Jason and Sam. Elizabeth and Jason shared a friendly hug, as Sam and Molly exited the elevator. 5/22 At the hospital, Sam and Molly watched Jason and Elizabeth share a hug. Molly quietly reminded Sam that they had to get to the Lamaze class, but then Jason glanced in their direction. Sam and Jason exchanged a long, tense look, so Elizabeth explained that the hug had been a celebration, because Elizabeth had received great news about Ewen, who was expected to recover. Sam was curious why Jason had been at the hospital. Jason told her about his follow-up appointment with Dr. Morrucci, who had given Jason a clean bill of health. Sam explained that she and Molly were at the hospital for a birthing class. Molly volunteered to let Jason take her place, but Jason didn't reply. Jason and Sam squirmed uncomfortably, as Molly desperately tried to persuade Jason to attend the class. Elizabeth took pity on the couple, so she gently suggested that Molly allow Jason and Sam to discuss it privately. Jason was startled when Molly insisted that Jason could still be a part of the baby's life, even though he wasn't the father. Sam quickly asked to have a private word with Jason, so he followed Sam to a quiet corner. Jason seemed dismayed that Sam had made the baby's paternity public. Sam apologized for Molly's insensitive remark, but she reminded him that Molly was her sister. Sam admitted that she had felt compelled to explain things when Molly had questioned why Sam and Jason were no longer together. Jason was surprised when Sam suggested that the Quartermaines would have to be told, because the baby was a Quartermaine, and Jason's family would wonder why she was raising the baby alone. "But you don't have to," Jason told Sam. Sam's face lit up with joy, as she asked if Jason wanted to raise the baby with her. Jason admitted that he wanted to, but he feared that it would be too difficult to accept living with Franco's baby. Sam wondered if he might change his mind. Jason didn't know, because she had moved out before they could discuss the alternatives.
Sam was curious what kind of alternatives Jason had in mind. Jason broached the possibility that Sam give the baby up for adoption. Jason assured Sam that there were people out there who would love the baby without judgment, as the baby deserved. Sam fought back tears, as she admitted that she had set aside her own personal issues with adoption to consider the possibility of giving the baby up to a loving couple. She conceded that it would be a good solution for everyone, so Jason quickly reminded her that they could have their own children when she was ready. Sam confessed that she had grown to care for the baby after seeing the sonogram and feeling it kick. However, Sam's feelings for the baby had intensified when Ronnie had held a gun to her stomach, because that was the moment that the baby had become real to her. Sam admitted that she loved her child, and wanted to raise it. She assured Jason that she could handle the baby's paternity, even if Jason couldn't. Molly walked up to remind Sam that the class was about to begin, and then offered Jason another opportunity to take her place as Sam's birthing partner. "It's just you and me, sis," Sam replied sadly. 5/24 Jason walked into the Q mansion to find Delores and another police officer there. Jason wondered what the cops are doing there? Monica assured her son that everything was fine and invited Delores to look around. Delores thanked Monica, and then left. Jason wondered if Edward was at home. Monica revealed that Edward had gone to the office, so Jason decided that it was for the best, because he had to tell Monica something about Sam's baby. Monica feared that something was wrong with the baby, so Jason assured her that the baby was fine. However, he wasn't the baby's father. Monica was stunned as Jason told her that Franco had raped Sam. Monica wondered how long Jason had known, so he admitted that he had recently found out. Monica realized why Jason had been reluctant to tell Edward about the baby, because Edward had been looking forward to having a great-grandchild. "Edward will still be getting his great-grandchild," Jason revealed. Jason told Monica that Susan had given birth to twins, and that Heather had sold Jason's brother to a nurse. After Monica recovered from the shocking news, she acknowledged that Jason and Sam had a lot to work out. Jason confessed that he and Sam were not together, because Sam wanted to keep the baby, while Jason was unable to assure Sam that he could love the baby and be a father to it. Monica revealed that after Susan had died, Monica hadn't wanted anything to do with Jason either, because Jason had been a reminder of how rocky Monica and Alan's marriage had been. However, all of the pain, anger, and resentment had disappeared the moment that Monica had held Jason. Jason insisted that his situation was different, but Monica disagreed. Monica pointed out that Jason had been an innocent baby, just like Sam's child. Monica admitted that she had loved Alan, so it had been impossible not to love his son. She thought that Jason owed it to himself and Sam to find out if the same would be true for Jason. At Kelly's, Heather spotted Sam having breakfast. Heather remarked that she hoped that Sam was drinking a decaffeinated beverage, because Heather wouldn't want Sam's little bundle of joy to "vibrate" its way out of Sam's womb. Sam was curious why Heather was unaccompanied, so Heather informed Sam that Steve would be along shortly. Heather claimed that she was concerned about the baby's well-being, because the baby was her flesh and blood, regardless who the father was. Heather then wondered what the paternity test had revealed. Sam refused to answer, but Heather figured it out from Sam's expression. Steve was curious what was going on when he walked up. Heather smiled brightly, as she claimed that they had been talking about the baby. Sam added that Heather had mentioned that the baby would make them all one big happy family. Heather relaxed when Steve excused himself to take a call from the hospital. After Steve walked away, Heather was curious if Jason knew about the baby's paternity. Sam revealed that he did, so Heather goaded Sam by suggesting that they shout the news from the rooftop, because Franco had been a famous artist. Sam turned the tables on Heather by proposing that they also tell everyone how Heather had stolen Susan's infant son while Susan had been unconscious and then had sold him to the nurse who had delivered Franco. Sam wondered how Steve would react to the news. Heather suspected that it would be similar to Jason's reaction when Sam had told Jason about the paternity results. Heather coldly suggested that Sam had reaped what she had sowed. Sam was outraged that Heather would say something like that, but Heather was unapologetic, because Sam had broken her promise to Heather by refusing to deliver Heather's letter to Steven Lars when Heather had been locked up in Ferncliff. Heather vowed to make Sam pay if Sam crossed Heather again. Heather assured Sam that she'd never hurt a pregnant woman, but Sam wouldn't remain pregnant for much longer. Sam informed Heather that Jason had decided to tell the Quartermaines about the baby's paternity and how Franco had ended up with Betsy Frank, so it was only a matter of time before Steve learned the truth. Steve returned and Heather claimed that Sam had invited Heather to the baby shower, so Heather had decided to buy the baby finger-paints to encourage its artistic sensibilities. Steve explained that he had to get to work, so he needed to drop Heather off at the apartment. Later, Sam was surprised to see Jason enter the diner. Jason admitted that Molly had told him where to find Sam. Jason revealed that he had told Monica everything. Sam wondered how Monica had reacted to the news. Jason conceded that it had been hard, so Sam was curious if Monica wanted to be a part of the baby's life. Jason thought so, which didn't surprise Sam because Monica had always loved Jason. Sam promised to let Monica have a relationship with the baby, because not everyone felt that way. Sam announced that she had to pick up Molly, so Jason wondered if they were going to another birthing class. Sam confirmed that they were, so Jason was curious how it was going. Sam chuckled, because Molly was a bit intense. Jason was surprised when Sam suddenly wondered if Jason would like to join her. 5/25 At Kelly's, Sam asked if Jason wanted to go with her to the Lamaze class. She was disappointed when he didn't reply, because she realized that his answer was no. Sam admitted that she couldn't stop thinking about Monica and how Monica had been able to love Jason even though he had been a product of an affair between Alan and Susan. Jason insisted that their circumstances were different, but Sam argued that Monica had made a decision to see Jason for who he was, not what his parents had done. Sam was certain that Jason would be able to love the baby if he allowed himself to believe it. Sam didn't want to push Jason, but she didn't want to lose him either. Moments later, a reporter entered the diner and then approached Sam and Jason. The reporter was curious if Sam and Jason wanted to comment on the story that the Port Charles Press intended to run. Sam and Jason appeared confused, so the reporter held up an early edition of the newspaper, with a headline that read, "Honeymoon Horror." Sam demanded to know how the press had found out about her rape. The reporter insisted that he couldn't divulge his source, so Jason warned the reporter that the newspaper couldn't print the story. Sam claimed that the newspaper would be liable, but the reporter disagreed if the story were true. Sam insisted that their personal lives were private, but the reporter reminded her that Franco had been a renowned artist and serial killer.
Sam and Jason refused to comment on the story, so the reporter gave them the copy of the newspaper, and then left. Sam immediately apologized, but Jason insisted that it wasn't her fault. Sam realized that it was pointless to continue their earlier discussion, so she decided to pick up Molly. Shortly after Sam left, John walked in. Jason glared at John. "Proud of yourself?" Jason asked, as he showed John the newspaper article. Jason warned John not to use Sam to get to him, but John assured Jason that John would never use a tabloid to go after Jason. Jason didn't believe John, so he wondered if John's obsession with Sonny had been worth trashing Sam's life.
John insisted that he hadn't done anything to Sam, but Jason accused John of going after Sam while she had been at her most vulnerable. John was curious if Jason had talked to Sam about Jason's theory. Jason reminded John that Jason had found the bug that John had planted in Sonny's home. John didn't deny it, but he clarified that he intended to use Jason, not Sam, to get to Sonny, because Jason was like a brother to Sonny.
According to John, Jason was Sonny's weakness. Jason wondered why John was still in town, since Sonny had been acquitted. Jason reminded John that Sonny had had an inured arm on the night of the shooting and wouldn't have been foolish enough to stash a gun where it could be found. Jason questioned what kind of cop John was if John hadn't figured out that Sonny had been framed. John confessed that it had never really been about Sonny's trial. John explained that Sonny had committed other crimes, which Sonny had to answer for. Jason was curious why John had to be the cop who made Sonny pay. John admitted that it was personal, and then told Jason about the shooting in Atlantic City. Jason was surprised to learn that the woman killed in the incident had been John's sister. Jason argued that John didn't have any proof that Sonny had been responsible for John's sister's death, so John vowed to get what he needed. Outside of Kelly's, Jason shoved the newspaper into the garbage. Moments later, two Beecher's Corners police officers walked up, identified themselves, and then informed Jason that he was under arrest for the murder of Robert Frank, also known as Franco. Alexis wondered how it was possible that Jason wasn't the baby's father. "Because I was raped," Sam answered from the doorway. "Franco raped me," Sam clarified. Sam told her stunned mother about what had transpired in Hawaii. Alexis hugged Sam, and then asked why Sam hadn't told her sooner. Sam explained that she and Jason had tried to put it behind them so that they could move forward. Sam talked about finding out that she was pregnant, the first paternity test, learning that Franco had been Jason's twin, and then taking the second paternity test, which had confirmed Sam's worst fears. Alexis felt terrible for Jason. Sam admitted that it had been difficult for him, which was why Jason feared that the baby would be a constant reminder of Franco. Sam admitted that she had wanted to tell her mother about the rape, but she had feared that Alexis would think that she was damaged. Alexis insisted that she saw someone beautiful and strong, who had gone through something horrible with grace and dignity, when she looked at Sam. Sam doubted that others would feel the same way when the article was published. Alexis wondered what Sam was talking about, so Sam told her mother about the article in the Port Charles Press. Alexis immediately called Diane, in an effort to get the article pulled. Diane promised to do what she could, but Diane doubted that she could stop it. Sam suggested that they call Kristina, so that Kristina wouldn't be blindsided by the article. Alexis wished Sam luck, because Alexis hadn't been able to reach Kristina for weeks. Molly gave Sam the number to Kristina's roommate. Kristina's roommate revealed that Kristina had left Yale weeks before. Frantic, Alexis called Sonny. A short time later, Sonny arrived. Alexis told him that Kristina was missing, so she wondered if Sonny knew where Kristina was. Sonny reminded Alexis that Alexis had wanted Kristina to have a real college experience, so he had pulled his guards. Alexis decided to call the police so that they could organize a search party. "Don't bother, I'm right here," Kristina said from the doorway. 5/29 At the Beecher's Corners police station, Jason was questioned about where he had been on January 13, 2012. Jason made it clear that he had nothing to say without his attorney present, so the police officer revealed that Franco had been shot twice at point-blank range. According to the police officer, Franco had been dead prior to being incinerated in the studio. The police officer claimed that an anonymous tip had pointed them to Jason. "It was McBain," Jason whispered to himself, as the police officer walked away. Jason called Alexis, but the call went to voicemail, so he reached out to Elizabeth for help. A short time later, Elizabeth arrived at the police station with the bail money. She was curious why Jason had wanted her to deliver the money, instead of Bernie. Jason explained that Bernie might have been given a hard time, if Bernie had shown up waving the bail money around for a "nuisance arrest." Elizabeth insisted that murder was a serious charge, but Jason claimed that nothing tied him to Franco's murder.
Jason confided to Elizabeth that he suspected that John McBain had called in the tip. Moments later, a police officer dropped a newspaper on the desk for Jason to read, while the bail was processed. Elizabeth was shocked when she saw the headline, which read, "Honeymoon Horror." Elizabeth insisted that the story was criminal, because it was an invasion of privacy. Jason accused John of leaking the story to the media. Elizabeth wondered what John stood to gain by tipping the police off and leaking the story. Jason suggested that John would be able to go after Sonny and "whatever else he can get," with Jason out of the way. Elizabeth realized that everyone would soon know all of Jason and Sam's secrets, so Jason revealed that he had told Monica about the rape and the baby's paternity, because the baby was still a Quartermaine. Elizabeth was curious how Monica had taken the news. Jason confessed that Monica had talked about accepting Jason when Alan had taken Jason in after Susan's death. Monica had made Jason realize that Sam's baby was innocent, and that it hadn't been fair for Jason to burden the baby with his history. Jason admitted that he had intended to talk to Sam about it, but then the reporter had shown up, which had stirred things up again. Elizabeth was confident that Jason and Sam would work things out. Jason pounded on John's door. John opened the door, and then asked what he could do for Jason. "Haven't you done enough already?" Jason asked. At the lake house, Alexis was ready to organize a search party for Kristina when Kristina appeared on the doorstep. Relieved, Alexis raced to hug Kristina, but Kristina coldly told Alexis not to bother. Kristina's frosty greeting startled Alexis, so Alexis demanded to know what was going on. The phone rang, so Kristina invited Alexis to answer it. Alexis insisted that nothing was more important than her children, so Alexis ignored the call. Sam was also concerned about what had happened to Kristina at Yale. Kristina explained that she had quit, because she had discovered that she didn't belong there. Kristina glared accusingly at Sonny as she revealed that Sonny had pulled some strings to force Yale to accept Kristina. Sonny invited Kristina to take a walk with him to discuss it, so that Alexis, Sam, and Molly didn't have to be involved, but Kristina wanted her family to know exactly what Sonny had done. Kristina began to rant about all the wrongs that Sonny had ever done, so Sonny warned Kristina not to drag the past into it. Sonny acknowledged that he had done what was necessary to get Kristina into Yale, but he insisted that any parent would have done the same. Kristina argued that most parents wouldn't have resorted to threats and intimidation tactics. Kristina was tired of Sonny and Alexis lying to her, so she demanded to know if Alexis had known. Sonny shook his head at Alexis, willing to take the full blame, but Alexis admitted the truth. Kristina wondered if sending her to Yale had been about getting Kristina into Alexis' alma mater, keeping Kristina way from Ethan, preventing Kristina from pursuing a career in fashion with Crimson, or all of the above. Sonny pointed out that that no one had forced Kristina to go to Yale. Kristina complained that Sonny had strong-armed Yale into accepting her, so she hadn't gotten in on her own merit. Molly suggested that Kristina was being unfair, because what mattered was that Kristina had been given an opportunity to attend the prestigious school. Kristina explained that she had been ridiculed and ostracized by the students, because her father was a mobster. Sam pointed out that Kristina could have proven everyone wrong by toughing it out. Kristina appreciated that Sam didn't mind being married to the mob, but Kristina had resented having been made a laughingstock. Alexis wondered where Kristina had been since Kristina had left Yale. Kristina explained that she had ended up in a coffee bar, where she had met a male grad student. Kristina cryptically explained that she and the grad student had been working on a family project. Molly was curious if Kristina were pregnant, like Sam. Alexis was shocked by the suggestion, but demanded an answer. Kristina insisted that when she got pregnant, it would be on purpose and with someone that she loved. Sonny appeared confused. "Is she pregnant?" Sonny asked, as he carefully studied Kristina's midsection, while she took off her coat. "No," Molly and Alexis clarified in unison. Kristina explained that she wanted the kind of happiness that Sam and Jason had. Sam looked uncomfortable, as Kristina hugged her. Molly was curious what Kristina's new project was, so Kristina revealed that she intended to star on a reality show called Mob Princess. 5/30 At the lake house, Kristina revealed that she intended to star in a reality show called Mob Princess. Sonny, Alexis, Sam, and Molly were stunned when Kristina added that she expected her entire family to be a part of the show. Sonny and Alexis immediately objected, while Sam explained that the last thing that any of them needed was more media exposure.
Kristina angrily complained that Sonny's mob influence had been used to get Kristina into college, which had left Kristina humiliated. Kristina had decided to embark on a new career, since college had been ruined for her. Sam reminded Kristina that Sam had once done a reality show, which Sam had regretted, so Sam feared that Kristina would end up feeling the same way. Alexis accused Kristina of overreacting to what Sonny had done, while Sonny argued that he had merely called in a favor to give Kristina what Kristina had wanted. Sonny pointed out that Kristina had made the choice to go to Yale. Kristina made it clear that she would be calling the shots in her life, not her parents. Sonny was adamant that neither he, nor the rest of the family, would have any part of Kristina's show. As if on cue, the film crew arrived and began to record. Kristina addressed the camera, as she angrily introduced her family as a non-traditional American family. Alexis threatened to file injunctions against the film crew, but Kristina ignored her mother. Sonny tried to pull Kristina aside, but Kristina bitterly accused Sonny of almost killing her when Sonny had planted a bomb in Johnny Zacchara's car. Kristina smiled smugly as Alexis gasped with shock, while Sonny glared at his daughter. Sam immediately tried to defuse the tense situation by trying to pull Kristina aside, but Kristina turned her hostility on Sam, by announcing to the cameras that Sam was married to Sonny's enforcer. Next, Kristina introduced Molly, whose father was also a mob attorney, like Alexis, and Sonny's half-brother. Kristina continued by revealing that Michael had gone to prison and then suggested that Morgan was away at school, learning to become a sniper. Kristina also talked about her eldest brother, Dante the cop, who Sonny had shot. Sonny's temper exploded when Kristina claimed that she had been the result of a sleazy one-night stand. Undaunted, Kristina snidely wondered what Sonny intended to do about her tirade, so Sonny snatched a camera out of one of the film crew's hands, and then smashed it. Later, Alexis noticed that she had missed a call. Another camera captured Alexis revealing to Sam that Jason had been arrested in connection to Franco's murder. Sonny immediately tossed the film crew out of Alexis' house. Alexis made it clear that she would not permit the film crew back into her home, so Kristina threatened to leave and never look back if her family didn't cooperate. At the Rendezvous Motel, Jason accused John of calling in the tip that had resulted in Jason's recent arrest. John denied that he had made the anonymous call, but Jason wondered why else the police would haul him in for Franco's murder. John suggested that perhaps it had been because Jason had killed Franco. Jason was grateful that at least John had decided to go after Jason directly, instead of using Sam. John pointed out that Jason was a prime suspect in Franco's murder, because of Jason's history with the serial killer, not because John had tipped off the police. Jason was curious what John would have done if someone had raped Natalie. John suggested that Jason stop making it personal. Jason accused John of telling the newspaper about Sam's rape, but John denied it.
John clarified that he didn't operate that way and wouldn't wish what had happened to Sam on anyone. Jason argued that John was trying to get Jason out of the way to get to Sonny, because of what had happened in Atlantic City. Jason insisted that Sonny hadn't killed anyone, but John wondered how Jason could know that, since Jason hadn't been there. Jason switched tactics by wondering if John wanted Jason out of the way to get to Sonny or to Sam. John explained that he'd had his own paternity issues to deal with, so he knew what Jason was going through. John insisted that was what John and Sam had talked about. Jason didn't want to hear it, so he started to leave. John advised Jason not to make more out of John and Sam's acquaintanceship than there was, because Jason might end up losing Sam. Jason reminded John that John's investigative allowance was about to expire, which meant that John would have no reason to remain in Port Charles. John sarcastically thanked Jason for stopping by, and then shut the door. In the hallway, Jason bumped into Sam. Sam revealed that she had heard about Jason's arrest. Jason explained that Elizabeth had dropped off the bail money, because Bernie was still recovering from the shooting at Pozzulo's. Sam was curious why Jason was at the motel, so Jason suggested that Sam ask her friend, John. Sam was stunned when Jason accused John of arranging for Jason's arrest and the story in the newspaper. Jason warned Sam that John was the wrong person to trust, because John was a cop. 5/31 In Sonny's office, Sonny admitted that he had heard about Jason's arrest. Jason explained that Elizabeth had picked up the bail money from Bernie, and then had taken it to Beecher's Corners to bail Jason out. Sonny was curious why Jason hadn't called Sam. Jason insisted that he didn't want Sam anywhere near the investigation into Franco's murder, because Sam had been through enough. Sonny wondered why Jason had been arrested, so Jason accused John McBain of calling in the tip. Jason quickly assured Sonny that nothing linked Jason to Franco's murder, so the case was circumstantial. Sonny wasn't surprised about John, because it was clear that John needed Jason out of the way to get to Sonny. Jason feared that John wanted Sam too. Jason confessed that he had no idea why Sam seemed more comfortable talking to John, instead of her husband. Sonny was curious if Sam might have said anything that John could use against them. Jason doubted it, but Jason suspected that John had leaked the story about Franco to the press, because John was the only person who stood to gain from it. Sonny wondered what Jason intended to do about it, so Jason explained that they needed to be patient, because John's investigative allowance was about to expire. Sonny insisted that he'd had nothing to do with John's sister's death, but John was on a crusade to avenge her, so Sonny doubted that John intended to leave town until Sonny was behind bars. Jason didn't want Sam to be caught in the middle of John's agenda. "Then maybe Lt. McBain needs to disappear," Sonny suggested. Sonny feared that John wouldn't hesitate to use Kate's dissociative identity disorder to hurt Sonny by destroying Kate's life. Sonny vowed that he would not let that happen. Jason reminded Sonny that John seemed to be focused on Jason at the moment, so Sonny was curious if Jason intended to allow John to continue to sniff around Jason's pregnant wife. Sonny insisted that John needed to be eliminated, but Jason argued that they had to be careful, because John was a cop and an ex-FBI agent. However, Jason suggested that they send John a message. Sonny trusted Jason to take care of it. Jason pointed out that getting rid of John wouldn't change the baby's paternity, so Sonny reminded Jason that it would keep Sam from turning to John. Jason started to leave, but Sonny called out to him. Sonny was certain that Sam didn't want to lose Jason, even though it seemed like she was doing everything to push Jason away. Jason explained that everything had been fine between Jason and Sam until Sam had found out that the baby was Franco's. Sonny suggested that perhaps Sam had subconsciously turned to John, because it would be easier for her to deal with Jason's anger towards John, than to deal with the baby's paternity. Jason agreed that Sonny might be right, but John was still in the way. Sonny was certain that Jason and Sam would be able to work things out, once John was gone. Jason seemed doubtful, but Sonny was certain that Sam wanted Jason at her side. At the Rendezvous Motel, Sam asked if John had been responsible for Jason's arrest. John was curious what Sam thought, so she admitted that she had defended John to Jason. John was pleased that she had understood him, because John hadn't tipped off the police. Sam thought that it was a stretch to say that she understood John, because she barely knew him. John conceded that she had a point. Sam was frustrated, because Jason tried to blame everything on John. John revealed that Jason was worried that John wanted Sam, but Sam insisted that it was all in Jason's mind. Sam seemed uneasy when she heard a boom of thunder, because the storm sounded intense. John wondered if she were afraid of storms. Sam admitted that she wasn't, but the storm raging outside seemed ominous. John changed the subject by assuring her that he didn't want Sam caught in the middle of what was going on between Jason, Sonny, and him. Sam didn't see how she could avoid it, so John was curious if she could patch things up with Jason. Sam assured him that Jason would welcome her home, but there would be a wall between them because of the baby. Sam feared that Jason would never be able to connect with the baby, because he had wanted her to give it up for adoption. Sam couldn't imagine giving her child up, so John suggested that she move in with Alexis. Sam made it clear that she had no intention of giving birth on a reality show. Sam decided to return to her room, but stopped when she reach the door, because she felt a contraction. John immediately helped Sam to the bed, and then offered to call her doctor. Sam tried to remain calm, while John picked up his cell phone. John discovered that his cell phone didn't have a signal, so he picked up the landline phone, but it was dead. Sam tried to brush off the labor pain as Braxton Hicks contractions until her water suddenly broke. Sam explained that she'd been pregnant before, but her daughter had been stillborn, because of a condition called abruptio placentae. John decided to go to the front desk to check if the phone was working there, but Sam grabbed John's hand, and then begged him not to leave her. "Oh, God. This is it. I'm having this baby right now," Sam cried, as another painful contraction hit. Todd was startled when Téa suddenly cried out in pain, and then revealed that she was in labor. Todd looked back to check on Téa, but Téa yelled for him to watch the road. 6/1 Jason paid some goons to "persuade" John to leave town. Carly arrived as they left and asked Jason if the newspaper article about Jason's involvement in Franco's death was true. Jason admitted the story was correct. He explained that Franco was his fraternal twin. Carly felt bad for having railed against Sam after Sonny's birthday party, since she knew Sam had just discovered the truth. Jason explained that he and Sam had separated. He told Carly that he didn't want to burden Sam's unborn baby with the hatred he had for Franco. Carly promised that Jason would feel different once he held Sam's child. Carly berated Jason for not realizing that Sam didn't want to leave him; Sam didn't want to be alone at such a delicate time. "She's not alone," Jason replied. He explained that Sam and John had become close. Jason believed that John was using Sam to get Jason out of the way, so John could take down Sonny. Jason insinuated that John wouldn't be in the way much longer.
Carly figured out that the men who'd left the penthouse as she arrived were men Jason had hired to lean on John. She demanded that Jason call off his goons. Jason called the men but got their voicemail. Carly told Jason he had to make the first move and go to Sam. She implored him to forgive himself for not having been able to save Sam from Franco. Then he needed to forgive Sam for having kept secrets to try to protect him. Carly realized she needed to do the same; she needed to forgive someone. After Carly left, Jason decided to go to Sam. Todd helped Tea as she was in labor at the same time as Sam. She lamented that she was stuck there with Todd. Todd talked Téa through her contractions. She gave birth to a boy, but he was not breathing. Téa begged Todd to take the infant to the hospital, and Todd left on foot. Téa made it to the car and prayed that her son would be all right. Heather said that she might be able to help the boy, because she was a mother. Todd reluctantly handed over the baby but threatened to harm Heather if she hurt the boy. Heather examined the infant but the look on her face suggested the prognosis was not a good one. 6/4 At the Rendezvous Motel, Jason knocked on Sam's door. He explained that he wanted to talk to her about the baby. Sam didn't reply, so Jason admitted that he had been wrong about the baby. He assured Sam that he loved her, and wanted her and the baby in his life. Jason pleaded with Sam to open the door, but Sam didn't reply, so he let himself into her room.
In John's room, Sam was worried about her newborn son, because he seemed so quiet. She tearfully begged her baby to cry, but the baby remained quiet. Sam grew anxious when John didn't return, so she decided to get her son to the hospital. She bundled the infant up, fought back a wave of dizziness, and then left the room. On the side of the road, John McBain slowly regained consciousness. He gingerly sat up, looked around, and then recalled that Sam was waiting for him. John grimaced in pain as he stood up and then made his way to the motel.
Shortly afterwards, Jason knocked on John's door, looking for Sam. No one replied, so Jason entered John's room. Jason noticed the bloody towel on the bed, and then spotted the dragon figurine that Sam had left behind. He recalled when Sam had given the figurine to him, and then flashed back to when Sam had decided to leave him. Sam had told Jason that the dragon and the phoenix were stronger together, so Jason had wondered why she was leaving him. Sam had explained that she needed Jason to believe it. John stumbled through the door, prompting Jason to return to the present. John warned Jason that Jason was too late. "Your wife had a baby," John added. Jason argued that it was too soon, so John explained that Sam's water had broken. Jason demanded to know why John hadn't taken Sam to the hospital. John revealed that the phones had been down, so John had been forced to deliver the baby, and then go for help, but Jason's "friends" had intercepted John. Jason wondered how Sam and the baby were doing, so John assured Jason that mother and child had been fine. Jason dashed out of the door to look for Sam and the baby, but returned a short time later, because he hadn't found them. John wondered if Jason had seen Sam's car, so Jason revealed that the car was still at the motel. John doubted that Sam had gone far, because she had been exhausted after the unexpected delivery. Jason was pleased when John mentioned that the baby had been a boy. John wondered why it mattered, since Jason hadn't wanted the baby. Jason confessed that he was there to talk to Sam about the baby. John was curious what had changed Jason's mind about Sam's child. Jason ignored the question, because he was determined to find his wife. John insisted on going with Jason, but Jason argued that John wasn't in any shape to search for Sam. Jason advised John to see a doctor, and then left. At the cabin, Todd anxiously waited for Heather to help his nephew. After several minutes of CPR, Heather announced that nothing could be done for the infant. Todd refused to accept that, but Heather insisted that the newborn had died. Todd was devastated, because he had promised Téa that he would save the baby. Heather gently explained that it wasn't Todd's fault, but Todd was filled with remorse, because he had killed the baby's father. Sam clutched her son close to her, as she made her way down a rainy road. She stopped when she spotted a road closed sign, so she assured her baby that everything would be okay, and then continued to walk. A short time later, Sam spotted a cabin. She gently placed her son in a basket on the porch, and then knocked on the front door. Sam passed out just as Todd opened the door. Todd quickly checked to make certain that the unconscious woman was alive. Moments later, Todd heard a baby cry out. Confused, he stepped out onto the porch, and then looked around. Todd was stunned when he saw the infant in the basket. He quickly scooped the baby up and was about to enter the cabin when Téa walked up. Téa was overjoyed when she heard the baby crying, because she assumed that it was her newborn son. She immediately demanded to hold her child. Todd tried to explain that it wasn't Téa's baby, but Téa snatched the baby out of Todd's arms, and then cried with joy, as she held the infant close. Moments later, Heather returned to the cabin. Heather was shocked to see that the baby was alive. Téa had no idea what Heather was talking about, so Heather explained that Heather had "breathed new life," into the infant. Heather added that Todd had refused to give up on the child. Téa was overcome with gratitude, so Todd helped Téa to a bench. Téa sat down, and then cooed to the baby in Spanish. Heather noticed Todd's somber expression, so she quietly asked him why he wasn't smiling. Todd led Heather into the cabin to show her the unconscious woman. He quietly closed the door, as Heather looked down at Sam. Todd was surprised when Heather admitted that the woman on the floor was Heather's cousin's wife. Todd quickly explained that the baby in Téa's arms was Sam's son. Todd had no idea how to break the news to Téa, so Heather suggested that he not say anything. Todd was shocked. Heather explained that Sam's husband didn't want the baby, because it was another man's child. Heather claimed that Sam had probably intended to abandon the child, so things had worked out as they should. Todd insisted that it was wrong to take Sam's child, but Heather argued that he needed to think outside of the box. Todd was horrified when Heather suggested that they tell Sam that Sam's baby had died. He revealed that he had just witnessed the pain and grief that his daughter had experienced when Starr had lost her child. Todd couldn't imagine putting another human being through that kind of agony. Heather insisted that Todd shouldn't waste his guilt on Sam, because Sam had wanted to get rid of the baby. Heather promised that everyone would be better off, if Sam were told that the baby had died. Téa called out for Todd, so Heather urged him to go to her before Téa walked in. Heather warned Todd that the baby switch wouldn't work if Téa saw Sam and the dead baby. Resigned, Todd insisted that no one could ever know the truth. Heather agreed, and then rushed Todd out of the door. On the porch, Téa wondered what Todd had been doing inside the cabin. Todd explained that he had been talking to the lady who had helped them, and then distracted Téa by asking how the baby was doing. Téa assured Todd that the baby was perfect. Moments later, Todd's cell phone beeped. Todd suggested that they go to the road, so that Todd could call someone to take Téa and the baby to the hospital. Inside the cabin, Heather felt bad that the baby had died. However, Heather insisted that Sam had gotten exactly what Sam had deserved. 6/5 Téa and the baby arrived in the emergency room via ambulance. Téa and the baby were whisked into an examination bay, as Todd followed. Téa clutched the baby close, as she thanked Todd for saving her son's life. Téa admitted that she didn't know what she would have done if her son had died. Téa asked Steve to check over the baby, because her son hadn't cried after the delivery. Téa explained that her baby had barely been breathing, so Todd had gone for help. Steve turned to Todd for answers, but Todd was vague, so Téa revealed that Todd had found a woman who had helped them. Téa confessed that she'd had a terrible feeling that her baby had been gone, until she had found Todd. Téa stared adoringly at the baby in her arms, as she confessed that she was afraid to take her eyes off of the infant. Steve assured Téa that it was natural to have separation anxiety, but he promised to have the baby back to her quickly. Steve advised Téa to rest, because she would need her strength to take care of the baby. Later, Téa stared at her son, trying to figure out who he looked like. Jason stood on the side of the road, while he called for backup to help look for Sam. He noticed a light in the distance, so he ended the call, and then went to check it out. In the cabin, Heather gloated that fate had drawn Sam and Heather together. Sam remained unconscious on the floor of the cabin, as Heather vowed that Sam would only remember bits and pieces of the night that Sam had "lost" her child. Heather decided that everyone was better off, especially Sam's baby, who had been blessed with a new mother. Moments later, Heather heard Jason in the distance, calling out for Sam. In the cabin, Sam slowly regained consciousness, as she heard Jason call out her name. Moments later, Jason burst through the door. He quickly gathered Sam into his arms, as she told him about her attempt to find help for her baby. Jason wondered where the baby was, so Sam told him that she had left the baby on the porch in a box that had looked like a cradle.
Jason raced outside to check on the baby, but stopped short when he noticed how still the baby was. "Please, God," Jason begged, as he slowly checked the infant. Jason's eyes filled with unshed tears when he realized that the baby was dead. He gently picked up the baby, and then rocked him in his arms. "I'm sorry," Jason told the baby. He admitted that everyone had been right; holding the baby had made him realize that he could have loved the infant. Jason kissed the baby's head, and then tensed when Sam called out. Jason had no idea how to break the news to Sam. Jason insisted that it wasn't fair for Sam to lose another child. Sam stepped onto the porch, and then demanded to see her son. Jason put the infant back into the box, and then guided Sam to the bench. Sam became increasingly agitated, because Jason refused to give her the baby. She explained that her son needed to stay warm, so Jason gently explained that it was too late. Sam refused to believe that her baby was gone, so she demanded to see him. Jason quickly picked up the baby, and then handed him to Sam. Sam tearfully pulled back the blanket to look at her son. "Jason, this isn't my baby," Sam said when she saw the baby's face. 6/6 In the examination bay, Téa studied the baby's features, trying to decide who he looked like. She had hoped that her baby would look like Victor's side of the family, but she realized that the baby didn't resemble her or Victor. She decided that the baby looked like himself, which made him an original. At the cabin, Jason handed the infant to Sam. Sam pulled back the blanket to look at the baby's face, and then looked up at Jason with tear-filled eyes. "Jason, this isn't my baby," Sam said. Jason gently reminded Sam that the baby was gone, and then told her how sorry he was. Sam insisted that her baby had not been dead. She explained that her son had looked just like Jason, so she was certain that someone had taken her son, and then had replaced him with the infant in her arms. Jason didn't believe Sam, even though Sam assured him that her son had been healthy and alive. Jason tried to get Sam to accept that her son had died, but Sam refused to believe him, so Jason suggested that he get her and the baby to the hospital. At the hospital, Todd followed Epiphany to the nursery, but stopped short when he spotted Jason and Sam. Sam, seated in a wheelchair, cradled the dead infant in her arms, as Jason called out to Epiphany. Todd quickly turned his back to Jason and Sam, so that Sam wouldn't see the baby in his arms. Meanwhile, Jason filled Epiphany in on what had happened. Sam quietly wept over the baby, as Epiphany went to fetch Dr. Rashid. Todd listened, as Jason told Dr. Rashid that Sam had given birth in a motel room. According to Jason, the baby had stopped crying, so Sam had gone for help when Sam hadn't been able to wake the infant up. Dr. Rashid wanted to examine Sam, so Epiphany gently asked Sam to hand the baby to her. Sam refused to let go of the infant, because Sam insisted that her son wanted to be with his mother. Epiphany explained that the baby was with the angels, and then reached for the infant boy. Sam was inconsolable as Epiphany walked away with the baby. Later, Jason asked Dr. Rashid why the baby had died. Dr. Rashid explained that they would have to wait for an autopsy report, so Jason decided to check on Sam. Sam had been sedated, so she was groggy. She couldn't understand why her son had died. Sam was certain that her baby could have been saved, if John had returned. Jason insisted that it wasn't John's fault. "Then whose fault is it, Jason?" Sam demanded. Sam explained that John had promised to take her to the hospital. Jason started to tell Sam what had happened, but a nurse entered to announce that it was time for Jason to leave, because Sam needed her rest. Sam reached for Jason's hand, and then tearfully confessed that she had picked a name for her son. "Jason, after his father," Sam revealed. Meanwhile, Epiphany asked Téa for the baby's name. "Victor, after his father," Téa answered. 6/7 At Rendezvous Motel, John called the hospital for an update on Sam and the baby. He spoke to several people before someone told him that Sam's baby had died. At the hospital, Todd had a vivid dream about telling Téa that her baby had died. Téa angrily accused Todd of taking her husband and son from her, and then screamed, "I hate you." Todd woke up with a start. Téa, who gently rocked the baby in her arms, saw Todd jerk awake. "You okay?" she asked. Todd brushed it off, and then asked how the baby was doing. Téa confided that she felt happier than she could have imagined. Steve explained to Tea that the baby may have a genetic blood disorder called beta thalassemia. The disorder is commonly known as Mediterranean anemia, because it was prevalent in people of Italian or Greek ancestry. In Sam's hospital room, Sam had a dream about holding her son. She confided to her baby that he had given her a scare, but she had known, deep down inside, that he had been alive. Moments later, Sam woke up to the reality that her son was gone. Jason immediately rushed to her side to assure Sam that she would be okay. Sam disagreed, because her child was dead. Sam told Jason about her dream. Sam couldn't understand why John hadn't returned to the hotel room as he had promised. Jason recalled his conversation with John in the motel room, when Jason had learned that Sam had given birth to a baby boy. Jason started to confess that he had been the reason that John hadn't returned, but his phone rang. It was Alexis. After Jason ended the call with Alexis, Jason tried to talk to Sam about his realization that he could love her child. Sam cut Jason off, because she didn't think that it mattered anymore. Jason remained determined to tell her, but Sam's temper flared when he mentioned that he had talked to Carly about it. Sam resented that Jason had been able to talk to Carly, but not his wife. Jason tried to clear things up, but Alexis, Molly, and Kristina arrived. Jason quietly excused himself, as Sam's mother and sisters gathered around her. Jason hovered near the doorway, as Sam told her family about the delivery and John's disappearance. Todd passed Sam's room, as a nurse approached the room with a tray of food. Jason explained that Sam was busy, so the nurse decided to leave the tray with Jason. She extended her condolences, and then left. Moments later, Jason walked away. Todd crept to the door to eavesdrop on Sam and her family. Sam told her mother and sisters that she had gone to the front desk, but no one had been there, and the phones had been dead. Sam had decided to go to the road, in the hopes of flagging down a passing car. Sam had noticed a light in the distance, so she had set out in the direction of the light, which had led her to a cabin. Sam recalled putting her son down, entering the cabin, and then passing out. Sam's next memory had been of waking up in Jason's arms. Sam had been certain that someone had switched her son with the baby that Jason had found on the porch. Sam tearfully confessed that she couldn't understand why her baby had died. In Sam's hospital room, Molly wished that she could do something for Sam. Sam assured her youngest sister that she loved her. After Molly left, Sam thanked Kristina for stopping by. Kristina insisted that she loved Sam, and then offered to fetch a magazine for Sam in the gift shop while Sam rested. Jason spotted Alexis near the nurses' station, so he approached her. Jason confessed that he was sorry that Sam had lost her son. "Her son, not yours," Alexis replied. Alexis suggested that if Jason had shown a tad bit of compassion and generosity then Sam might have been with Jason, instead of in a motel room, when Sam had gone into labor. "Perhaps I would have my grandson," Alexis added, and then left to find Dr. Lee. Moments later, John bumped into Jason at the nurses' station. Téa cradled the baby in her arms, as a nurse wheeled Téa to the elevator across from Sam's room. Téa realized that she had forgotten the pamphlet that Steve had given to her, so the nurse agreed to fetch it. Meanwhile, Sam decided to leave her room, but froze in the doorway when she saw Téa and the baby. **The End** |
