Jason & Sam #31 December 13, 2011 - March 28, 2012: 8 hour original edit
DVD #31A Michael's anxiety mounted after he learned that Abby had failed to make it to her appointment. According to Michael, Abby had been five minutes away from her destination when she had talked to him. Michael decided to go to Chicago to search for Abby, but Sam reminded Michael that there were other ways to look for someone. Sam called a hospital in Chicago, near where Abby had been staying, to see if anyone with Abby's name, or fitting Abby's description, had been admitted. Sam and Michael continued to make phone calls to nearby hospitals, and people whom Abby had been scheduled to meet, to no avail. Sam was unaware that the DVD from Franco had fallen to the floor while she had been on the phone. Michael received a call from someone at a construction site in Chicago, who had found Abby's cell phone after a load had slipped from a crane, and then crashed to the ground. The construction worker revealed that Abby had been unconscious when the ambulance had rushed her to the hospital. Michael ended the call, and then told Sam about the accident. Sam insisted on accompanying Michael to the Chicago. Robin noticed that Jason had been staring off into space, so she called out his name. Robin became worried when Jason didn't immediately respond. Jason quickly snapped back to the present, and then assured her that he was fine. He explained that he had become distracted with thoughts of Franco, because of something that she had said. Robin suspected that there was more to it, so she gave him a cursory examination, and then asked if he'd had any headaches recently. Jason brushed off her concerns, but admitted that he'd had some headaches. Robin wondered how bad Jason's headaches had been, but Jason refused to elaborate. He explained that he had been furious about Franco, and that there were times when the anger took over. Robin empathized, because she had felt the same way when she had woken up to find herself tied to a chair in a stateroom with Lisa looming over her. Robin revealed that Lisa had intended to inject Patrick with Robin's infected blood, which hadn't made much sense to Robin at the time, because Robin's viral loads had been almost non-existent. Jason picked up on Robin's past-tense reference, so he asked her to clarify. Robin reminded Jason of her decision to go on the cocktail of medications to treat her HIV. Robin assured him that she had always known how important it had been to stick to the schedule and drug protocol. Jason wondered what her viral load was at that moment. Robin quietly confessed that the medications hadn't been working for months. Jason was shocked. Robin explained that she couldn't prove it, but she suspected that Lisa had replaced the life-saving medications with placebos. Jason wondered when Robin had found out. "The day after Lisa died," Robin admitted. Robin explained that her body had built up a resistance to certain medications used in the drug cocktail, so she had started another drug protocol. However, the new cocktail hadn't improved her viral load, so it appeared that she might face a slow death. Jason reminded Robin that she couldn't be certain that the medications wouldn't start to work, but Robin seemed resigned to her fate. She regretted all the time that she had wasted on work, instead of focusing on her daughter and husband. Jason was curious what Robin had told Patrick about her situation, so Robin admitted that she hadn't told anyone. Jason was stunned; he insisted that Patrick deserved to know, because Patrick was her husband. Robin argued that she was trying to spare her husband and daughter the disappointment of false hope. She wanted her family to have the most amazing Christmas ever, because it would be their last. Robin intended to disappear after Christmas. Jason reminded Robin that she didn't know for certain that she would die, so there might be a chance that the new medications might work. Robin explained that the doctors had started talking to her about options, which she knew did not bode well for her. She recalled that Alan, Jason's father, had talked about options when Stone had been near the end. Jason confided that Robin had taught him that "sadness comes from loss," because of what she had gone through when Stone had died. He couldn't understand why Robin would put her family through that kind of pain, without giving them the opportunity to say goodbye. Robin insisted that it would be better for Patrick and Emma if their loss were sudden, rather than prolonged. Jason had doubts about that, so Robin wondered if Jason would have felt better if Jake had wasted away from a disease, rather than dying suddenly. Jason assured her that he wouldn't have wanted Jake to suffer, but Jason would have welcomed the opportunity to spend whatever time he could have with his son, to say goodbye. Robin promised that she intended to say goodbye to her family, but in her own way. She wanted to have a wonderful Christmas celebration with her family before she disappeared. She implored Jason to send her somewhere where no one could find her. "I'm sorry. I can't do that," Jason quietly told her. 12/14 Michael and Sam boarded a plane bound for Chicago. Michael was anxious to get there, because he was worried about Abby. He explained that he had sent Abby to Chicago to be safe, so he felt responsible if anything had happened to her. Michael warned Sam that he couldn't lose Abby, but Sam assured Michael that Abby would be fine. She insisted that Michael had done everything to protect Abby, but Michael worried that he might react as Jason had in the alley with Pres Floyd, if Abby were hurt, or worse.
Michael shifted gears by wondering if perhaps Jason's sudden bouts of rage were a side effect of Jason's recent brain surgery. Sam seemed to consider it, but didn't reply. Later, as the plane was about to land, Sam reached for Michael's hand. She promised Michael that everything would be fine with Abby. In the interrogation room, Jason assured Robin that he wanted to help her, but he didn't think that it would be fair to anyone if Robin were to leave without a word. Robin wondered what was fair about AIDS. She reminded Jason that Stone had died young, and that the deadly virus had ravaged Africa. Robin insisted that it would be best for her family if she were to disappear. Jason disagreed, because he believed that Patrick and Emma needed Robin. Robin explained that she had planned to grow old with her husband, so she wasn't eager to leave him or Emma. Jason suggested that Robin could still grow old with Patrick, but Robin didn't agree. Robin reminded Jason that she was more than capable of reading her own test results, so she knew exactly how grim her situation was. Jason accused Robin of giving up before the new drug protocol had a chance to work. He urged her to talk to Patrick, because Jason believed that Patrick had a right to know what was going on. Robin was curious if Jason would want to know if Sam were sick. Without hesitation, Jason insisted that he would want to be there for Sam if she were going through the same thing as Robin. Robin conceded that Jason was the worst patient, next to Robin. She was curious what Jason would do if their roles had been reversed. Robin didn't wait for a response, because she was certain that Jason would try to protect Sam by walking away. Jason warned Robin that Patrick would end up blaming himself, but Robin insisted that disappearing was the right thing to do. "What about Emma?" Jason asked. Robin recalled being told that her parents had perished when she hadn't been much older than Emma. Robin admitted that she had been sad, but all of her memories of Robert and Anna had been good. Jason was curious if Robin feared that Emma might not see Robin in the same light. Robin ignored the question as she asked Jason how he had been able to give up Jake, so that another man could raise his son. Jason explained that he had tried to do the right thing by Jake. "Exactly," Robin replied. Robin explained that she was trying to do the same thing for Emma. Jason wasn't swayed; he urged Robin to talk to Patrick, because Patrick deserved to know the truth. Robin insisted that she wanted her family to remember the good times, instead of seeing her slowly waste away. She confided that she'd already had a taste of what it would be like over Thanksgiving. According to Robin, she had needed to excuse herself from the dinner table, because she had been so fatigued that she had to lie down. Robin regretted the disappointment that she had seen on Emma's face. Robin revealed that it was the reason that she was doubly determined to make certain that Christmas was perfect for everyone, especially Emma. Jason reached for Robin's hand, and then reminded her of the time that he had found her on the bridge after a young girl had died from AIDS. Jason recalled that Robin had warned him that it was only a matter of time before it was her turn, and how she didn't want to have to go through that. Robin remembered Jason taking her hand, and then standing on the other side of the bridge, ready to jump to their deaths. He pointed out all the things that they would have missed out on if they had jumped, including Emma's birth. "It's too soon to jump," Jason quietly told Robin.Robin was curious if Jason had been the anonymous donor who had paid to rebuild the bridge. "Yes," Jason admitted. Robin wasn't surprised, so she asked him what he thought about the new bridge. "It sucks," Jason confessed. Robin laughed, and then suggested that perhaps Jason should be more specific about what he wanted the next time. Jason argued that it was better "this way." "You can't bring back something that's gone," Jason added. Robin agreed, but she insisted that they could remember things as they had been, and be grateful for what they'd had. Jason confessed that the things that she had taught him had changed his life. "Me too," Robin replied. Robin admitted that she had thought that her life was over after Stone had died, because she had felt as if she didn't have a future. Jason assured Robin that she had one. Robin smiled sadly as she talked about Patrick being the love of her life. Jason suggested that if Robin believed that then she would talk to Patrick about what was going on with her. Robin wanted Jason to respect her decision, and privacy, by promising her that he wouldn't tell Patrick. Jason assured her that he wouldn't; she needed to do that. Seconds later, Carly barged in. Carly stopped short when she saw Robin in the interrogation room. Carly demanded to know what Robin was doing there, and then proceeded to argue with Robin until Jason was forced to demand that they both "shut up." Carly and Robin were startled, so Carly wondered if Jason were okay. Jason assured Carly that he was fine, but he didn't want to see Carly and Robin argue. Robin was curious if Jason had felt the same burst of anger when he had attacked Pres Floyd. "Yes," Jason admitted, prompting Robin to wonder if Jason's vision had ever become blurry. Carly immediately became concerned as Robin continued to pepper Jason with questions, and then advised Jason to schedule a checkup with Patrick. Jason insisted that he was too busy to go to the hospital to see Patrick, but Carly agreed with Robin that Jason should make the time. Jason suggested that Robin was the one who needed to talk to Patrick, but Robin ignored the remark. Robin once again urged Jason to call Patrick, and then left. Afterwards, Carly demanded to know what was going on. Jason refused to tell Carly anything. Carly started to grumble about Robin, but Jason warned her to drop it. Carly explained that she was worried about Jason, because she had seen him lose his temper on several occasions, which wasn't like Jason. Jason admitted that he'd had some headaches, but he assured Carly that they hadn't been as intense as the ones that he'd had prior to the brain surgery. Carly insisted that Jason's bouts of rage weren't normal, but Jason disagreed. He explained that his anger stemmed from Franco resurfacing on the heels of Jason and Sam's wedding. Carly wondered if Jason and Sam were having problems, so Jason pointed out that their problem was Franco. Carly appeared skeptical, because she realized that Sam wasn't at the police station. Jason explained that Sam was at home with Michael. Carly demanded to know what Michael had to do with anything. Jason reluctantly told Carly about Franco's recent graffiti tag, and that Michael had seen it. Carly insisted that she didn't want her son involved in the mess with Franco, so Jason promised her that Michael was safe at the penthouse. 12/15 Alexis entered the interrogation room to inform Jason that he was free to go, but Jason seemed lost in his own dark thoughts. Alexis was forced to repeat Jason's name several times before he snapped out of it. She wondered if Jason were okay, so he quickly assured her that he was fine. Jason stood up, but Alexis stopped him from taking a step. "Not so fast," she warned Jason. Alexis explained that Jason couldn't run out and kill Franco, but Jason didn't see the problem with that. Alexis insisted that if Jason killed Franco, without letting the police handle it, then Franco would win. She was curious if Jason really wanted that kind of violence to stain his life. "It already has," Jason replied. Alexis wondered what that meant, but Jason refused to elaborate. Alexis confessed that she was tired of Jason and Sonny always talking in circles. "What could possibly be so awful you won't tell me now?" Alexis asked. Jason ignored the question as a police officer entered the room, and then unlocked the handcuffs. After the police officer left, Alexis reminded Jason that they were family, so whatever affected Sam also affected Alexis. Jason's temper flared as he confessed that his past had affected Sam. Alexis yelled back that perhaps Jason shouldn't have married Sam. Alexis wanted to know what was going on, but Jason refused to tell her. Moments later, Pres entered the interrogation room. Pres immediately blamed Jason for Franco's return. Alexis accused Pres of deliberately trying to provoke Jason, but Pres ignored Alexis as he continued to push Jason's buttons. Alexis noticed that Jason was quickly losing control of his temper, so she shoved Pres away from Jason, and then ordered Jason to leave. Carly entered the squad room just as Jason was about to leave. She explained that she had gone to the penthouse to talk to Michael, but she had found the door open, and Michael and Sam gone. Jason became concerned when Carly showed him the DVD that she had found. Jason admitted that it was for the best that Michael and Sam were out of town. He wondered if Carly had watched the DVD, but Carly shook her head. Jason decided to check it out, but Carly stopped him from leaving. She confessed that she was concerned about Jason's bouts of anger, so she advised him to follow his own advice to her by counting to ten before he did anything. Carly didn't know what was going on with Jason, but she wanted him to know that she was there for him, if he needed her. Jason thanked Carly, and then hugged her. After Jason left the squad room, he stopped to leave Robin a voicemail message to let her know that he had been released from jail, so she could call him if she needed to talk. A short time later, Jason arrived home, and then put the DVD into the laptop. The DVD was a recorded message of Franco suggesting that Jason was the "portrait of rage." Franco anticipated that congratulations were in order. Jason seethed with fury as Franco insisted that it had been an honor to have been "a part of the team." Franco realized that one child couldn't replace another, but he believed that he, Jason, and Sam had achieved the ultimate conceptual art. "We're gonna be a daddy," Franco taunted. Jason's temper exploded as he stood up and then began to kick the laptop. In Chicago, Michael and Sam made their way to Room 419. Michael was shocked when he realized that it was the morgue. Michael was filled with trepidation as he looked at the door, but Sam warned him not to jump to conclusions. She was certain that they had simply gotten the room number wrong. Michael pushed the door open, and was greeted by a body on a gurney, covered with a sheet. Sam tried to stop Michael from pulling the sheet back, but Michael ignored her. Michael was devastated when he saw Abby's lifeless body. He dissolved into tears as he gathered Abby close to him, and then gave into the grief. Later, Michael and Sam sat in the hallway. Michael was filled with anguish as Sam revealed that she had talked to the nurse on duty, who had assured Sam that they had done everything possible to try to save Abby's life, but Abby's injuries had been too grave. Michael blamed himself for Abby's death, because he had arranged for Abby to leave town. He suspected that Abby had been too distracted with talking to him on the phone to notice the danger around her. Sam insisted that it wasn't Michael's fault, but Michael didn't believe her. He shared the details of his last conversation with Abby. Abby had told him that she had found something special for Michael, while she had been Christmas shopping. Michael revealed that Abby had asked him to take a few days off, so that he could join her. Michael was haunted by the thought that Abby might be alive if she hadn't been talking to him. Sam warned Michael that there were a thousand what ifs, but none of them would lead him anywhere. "Sure it will. It will lead me here, where Abby died. Because of me," Michael replied. Sam reminded Michael that blaming himself for the accident wouldn't change anything; Abby would still be gone. Michael regretted that he hadn't told Abby how much he loved her, but Sam assured him that Abby knew, so it didn't have to change anything. Michael disagreed. "Now it doesn't have any place to go," Michael explained. Sam reached for Michael as he began to cry. 12/16 Sam comforted Michael, who was grieving over Abby's death. Michael blamed himself. He said that those he loved always got hurt. He was just like his father, he stated as he walked out of the room. Michael phoned Abby's mother to inform her of the death. He was shocked by the woman's reaction. After hanging up, he told Sam that Mrs. Haver had said she wasn't surprised that Abby "had come to no good" and had assumed Michael was calling to ask for money for the funeral. Michael wondered how a woman could turn her back on her own child. Sam appealed to Michael not to judge the woman without knowing the circumstances. Sam broke down in tears and admitted that Franco had raped her. Spinelli walked into Jason's penthouse and witnessed the aftermath of Jason's rage. Jason worried that he was losing control. He reminisced about the first time he had met Sonny. He'd been out of control then, too, but Sonny has taught Jason how to suppress his rage and use it to his advantage. Spinelli offered whatever support he could give. He walked Jason through the chain of events that had led up to Jason's loss of control. Jason worried his edge was gone. Spinelli asked if Jason's love for Sam might have proven to be a vulnerability Franco was able to exploit. Jason thanked Spinelli for his friendship. Later, Sam called Jason and disclosed that Abby had died. Jason told her he'd get a flight out that night. As he hung up, Monica arrived. She was concerned that Jason hadn't gone to his post-surgery checkup. She noticed the state of the penthouse and worried that his anger was getting the better of him. She beseeched him to see a specialist and gave him the man's card. Jason remained silent as his mother left. 12/19 Shawn went to the penthouse to confer with Jason about an upcoming meeting. Jason was distracted, and Shawn noticed. Jason told Shawn that Abby had been killed and Jason was worried about Michael. Shawn asked if Franco was responsible, but Jason said it appeared to be an accident. Shawn told Jason that he could handle the meeting and that Jason should catch the first plane to Chicago to be with Michael and Sam. Jason was reluctant at first, but Shawn's arguments were convincing, and Jason agreed to let Shawn handle the meeting. Shortly after Shawn departed, Carly appeared at Jason's door. She told Jason that he was not being himself, and she was worried. Jason said that he was distracted because he had a lot going on. Carly replied that Jason had just had major surgery. When Carly said that it was all Sam's fault, Jason got very hot. He said that it was not Sam's fault. He put on his coat, told Carly that he had to catch a plane, and walked out of the penthouse, leaving Carly standing alone. In Chicago, the dam finally broke for Sam, and she tearfully told Michael that Franco had raped her. At first, Sam tried to deny that she was upset, but Michael knew better. When Sam suggested that he concentrate on assuaging his grief over Abby's death, Michael said that changing the subject and running away was not the answer. He told Sam that she was behaving exactly the way he had behaved after Carter had assaulted him in prison. Sam said that their situations were different. Michael said that the details were different, but the pain was the same. Michael said that he had pretended to be whole, but had not been and had thought that he never would be. Sam knew the feeling. Michael said that he had spent months alone, pushing away the very people who cared for him and wanted to help. Michael told Sam that talking about the incident and letting it out was the only way to overcome it. Sam then told Michael the whole story of what Franco had done to her and Jason on the last night of their honeymoon in Hawaii. Sam felt guilty that she had done nothing to stop Franco. Michael said that Sam was not responsible for what had happened to her, and she had to stop thinking that she was. Sam said that she had been happy on her honeymoon with Jason and that Franco had taken it all away from her. Michael said that while Sam felt like she would never get over the pain, Michael was living proof that it would pass. Michael said that Sam had introduced him to Abby, and he had been able to talk to her. Michael said that Abby had reached him, and he had realized that he did not have to go through his trauma alone. Michael told Sam that Jason could do the same thing for her that Abby had done for Michael. Sam said that she wanted to confide in Jason but that she could not because Jason blamed himself and got uncontrollably angry whenever he thought about Franco. Sam said that talking to Jason only made it worse. Jason stood outside the door and heard Sam's comments to Michael. 12/20 In Chicago, Jason eavesdropped on Michael and Sam's conversation, as they discussed her rape. Sam admitted that she was reluctant to talk to Jason about it, because Jason felt guilty that Franco had been able to get to her. Michael offered to listen, if Sam needed to talk. Moments later, Jason entered the room, but he pretended that he hadn't overheard Michael and Sam's conversation. Jason quickly offered his condolences to Michael, who admitted that Abby's death had seemed like a nightmare. Michael decided to take care of some paperwork, so that he could return to Port Charles with Abby's body. After Michael left, Jason realized that Michael blamed himself for Abby's tragic death. Sam explained that Michael needed a reason for why Abby had died. Jason revealed that he had gone to the construction site to find out what had happened, and that it appeared to have been a horrible accident. Sam was relieved when Jason assured her that Franco hadn't been responsible for Abby's death. Sam then switched gears to find out how Jason had gotten out of jail, so Jason explained that Alexis had pulled some strings.Sam was grateful for her mother's help, because she had been worried about Jason. Jason assured Sam that he was fine, but he wondered how she was doing. "What do you mean?" Sam nervously asked. She quickly steered the conversation away from her, by talking about what a good friend Abby had been. Jason's phone rang. It was Carly. Carly insisted that Jason return to Port Charles, because Bernie had been shot during an ambush meant for Jason, and that no one had been able to reach Sonny. Jason promised to take care of everything, and then ended the call. Jason revealed to Sam that a "business deal" had gone south. Michael entered the room during the explanation, so he urged Jason to return home. Jason reluctantly agreed, but Sam insisted on staying with Michael. After Jason left, Michael admitted that he was grateful that Jason hadn't told Carly about Abby's death. Sam assured Michael that there wasn't a rush, and then offered to contact Abby's friends, to let them know about Abby. Michael pulled his date book out; he quietly revealed that Abby had given it to him, and that she had filled it out through 2012, to mark the dates that she intended to spend doing something special with him. Michael was overcome with grief, because it was a reminder of all the things that he and Abby wouldn't get to do. Michael and Sam talked about Abby, and what she had meant to them. Michael regretted that he had never taken Abby on a trip around the world, to visit all of the places that she had wanted to see. Sam was certain that Abby had never felt cheated during her time with Michael. Michael's head snapped up as a thought occurred to him. He cryptically told Sam that he had figured out a way to honor Abby, and then left. At Pozzulo's, Ronnie wasn't surprised when Jason entered the restaurant. Ronnie suspected that Jason had valuable information, including who had been behind the shooting, but Jason explained that he had been in Chicago. Frustrated, Ronnie left. Moments later, Max entered the restaurant. Jason was relieved to learn that Bernie would make a full recovery. Max then revealed that the Soleitos had been behind the ambush. Jason was surprised, but Max suggested that perhaps the crime family hoped to expand their territory. Jason was furious that the Soleitos had managed to catch him off-guard. After Max left, Jason entered the office, and then looked at the bullet casings, and blood left behind on the floor. Jason then returned to the restaurant, sat down, and then released a long breath. Music montage to “One Goodbye” by Jayson Belt. 12/21 Sonny entered Pozzulo's to see Jason seated at a table. Sonny demanded to know what had happened, so Jason explained that the gunmen had been looking for Jason. Sonny pointed out that Jason was impossible to target when he wasn't distracted. Sonny doubted that the ambush would have happened if Jason had been paying attention. Jason agreed, so Sonny suggested that Jason either deal with his personal issues, or focus on business. 1However, Jason couldn't do both, because Sonny needed someone reliable. Jason bristled, as he demanded to know if Sonny were suggesting that Franco wasn't a priority. Sonny refused to sacrifice all that he had worked for, because of Franco. According to Sonny, Franco was a "stupid" reason to throw everything away, so he wanted Jason to let it go. Jason's temper flared as he shouted, "I can't!" 1Jason calmed down, and then he confided that he'd been experiencing periods of rage, which had left him with memory gaps. Jason conceded that he couldn't think clearly, so he missed things like the ambush. Jason explained that his periods of rage and blackouts were getting worse, so he was frustrated, because he didn't know how to turn off the anger. Jason and Sonny talked about the first time that they had met, when Sonny had taught Jason to channel his anger. Sonny insisted that Jason owed it to himself to deal with whatever was going on, but Jason wanted to focus on the ambush. Sonny realized that the Soleitos had been responsible, so he suspected that the Zaccharas had pulled the strings, because Anthony Zacchara and Gino Soleito had once been close friends. 1Jason had doubts, because he knew that Johnny wanted to honor the peace treaty; however, Jason didn't discount Anthony working behind Johnny's back. Sonny wondered if Jason could stop the Zaccharas if they decided to go after Sonny's territory. Jason promised to do his best, but he refused to make any guarantees. Sonny advised Jason to get out of his own head, because it was clear that Jason didn't trust himself. 1Jason's temper flared as he questioned if Sonny had been able to do that when Sonny had struggled with bipolar disease. Sonny confessed that he finally saw what Jason had been forced to deal with during the years that Sonny had refused to seek medical treatment. Sonny acknowledged his regrets, including firing his gun at Robin's house while he had been on the hunt for Jax.
Jason mentioned that he had recently talked to Robin, so Jason was confident that Robin would be receptive to Sonny reaching out to her. Sonny respected Patrick's concerns, so Sonny didn't want to get between Patrick and Robin. However, Sonny pointed out that he was still standing, so there was hope for Jason. 1Sonny wanted to help Jason, but Jason doubted that anyone could. Sonny implored Jason to let Sonny try, and then questioned Jason about the symptoms. Jason told Sonny about everything that had transpired in Hawaii, except Sam's rape, and the first episodes of rage. Sonny suggested that Jason should take comfort, knowing that Franco hadn't targeted someone that Jason loved. Jason's mood darkened as he insisted that he should have stopped Franco. Sonny sensed that Jason was withholding something, so he pleaded with Jason to trust him. 12/22 At Pozzulo's, Sonny apologized for not being available when Jason had needed him. Sonny admitted that he had been dealing with some personal issues, including his failed marriage to Brenda, so he had been wrapped up in his own world. Jason didn't hold it against Sonny, because Sonny couldn't have known what Jason hadn't told him. "Tell me," Sonny urged his friend. Jason explained that he needed to figure out a way to deal with the rages, and control the anger, but Sonny wondered if that were even possible with Franco running around. Sonny implored Jason to consider seeking professional treatment, before someone that Jason loved was hurt or worse. Later, Sam was waiting when Jason arrived home. Jason revealed that Sonny had gone to check on Michael, so Sam wondered if Jason had intended to tell her about Bernie. Jason was furious when he realized that Shawn had told Sam about the shooting at Pozzulo's. Sam suggested that Jason wasn't mad at Shawn, and then held up the broken DVD. "Is this what you're really mad at? Did you watch the DVD?" Sam wondered. Sam warned Jason that they couldn't get crazy over what Franco had said in the DVD, because Franco had just been messing with their heads. She assured Jason that she wasn't pregnant, but Jason refused to think or talk about it. Moments later, Michael called to ask to see Sam, because he needed her. 12/23 Jason and Sam shared a peaceful Christmas Eve at the penthouse, alone. They exchanged gifts. Each had given the other an ornament by the same artist. She got a Phoenix, and he a dragon. Christmas music montage. 12/27 Sam sat down at a booth, and then ordered a coffee. After the waitress left, Sam noticed a baby doll abandoned on the bench. She picked it up, and then questioned the waitress about it when the waitress returned with the coffee. The waitress recalled that a man had been seated in the booth earlier, so Sam immediately asked for a description. Sam became uneasy when the waitress seemed to describe Franco. Moments later, Patrick walked up to the table, and then breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Sam had Emma's toy. Patrick thanked Sam for finding the doll, and then explained that it was Emma's new favorite toy. Sam relaxed as Patrick insisted that he owed Sam, because Emma would have had a meltdown if the doll had been lost. According to Patrick, it was one of the lesser joys of parenting, but he wouldn't change it for the world. Sam invited Patrick to join her, so Patrick sat down, and then ordered a coffee. He admitted that he and Robin had gone through a lot of trouble to buy the doll, so he was happy that it hadn't been lost. Sam chuckled, and then asked if Patrick and his family had had a good Christmas. Patrick confessed that it had been the best holiday he'd ever had, because Robin had been determined to make it perfect for Emma. Patrick asked if Sam and Jason had had a good holiday, and then wondered if people had started to ask them when they planned to start having children. Patrick quickly apologized when he realized that it had been an insensitive question, because of Sam's fertility issues. Sam assured him that she hadn't been offended, but Patrick switched gears to remind Sam that Jason needed to reschedule his post-op checkup. The waitress returned to refill their coffee cups, but Sam decided to order a cup of herbal tea instead. After the waitress left, Sam confessed that she admired Patrick and Robin, because they had been through so much with Lisa Niles, but they had managed to keep their marriage together. She was curious what the secret to their happiness was. Patrick assured her that there wasn't a secret; he and Robin loved each other and didn't want Emma to grow up with divorced parents, so they refused to give up on their marriage. Sam noted that love was a powerful thing, but Patrick insisted honesty was the key. Robin apologized for stopping by Jason's penthouse unannounced. She realized that Jason had turned down her request to help her disappear, but she insisted that she didn't have anyone else to turn to. Jason was stunned that Robin hadn't talked to Patrick about her HIV status, so Robin explained that she had sought a second opinion from a doctor in Africa, who was considered to be a leading specialist in the field. According to Robin, the doctor had urged her to give the new drug protocol a chance, because "it could and should" work; however, Robin insisted that she needed to be prepared for the worst. Jason suggested that it sounded as if Robin were giving up, but Robin argued that she had been living with HIV for twenty years. Jason reminded Robin to give the new drug protocol time to work, but Robin wondered why she should bother, since it might eventually fail again. Jason refused to help Robin disappear, so he warned her not to ask him. Robin decided to change the subject by imploring Jason to make an appointed for a checkup. Jason insisted that he was fine, and then urged Robin to tell Patrick about her deteriorating health. Robin explained that she just wanted to preserve the memory of the man that she loved, so she didn't want to put Patrick in a position where he had to carry the burden of "forcing a lightness" that Patrick didn't feel, just to keep her spirits up. Jason was curious if Robin had considered how Patrick and Emma would feel if she were to suddenly disappear without a trace. He insisted that Robin wasn't sparing her family; she was cheating them. Robin ignored Jason's remark as she tried to persuade Jason to see Patrick about the bouts of rage, because she feared that it might be neurological. Jason assured her that he would, when he had the time. However, he reminded Robin that his loved ones had had the opportunity to say what they had needed to, because he hadn't kept them in the dark about his situation prior to the brain surgery. According to Jason, Robin was denying Patrick and Emma the same opportunity. Robin insisted that they had been talking about Jason, not her, so Jason accused Robin of shifting the focus. Robin argued that she simply wanted to help those she cared about, while she could, because she wanted to make certain that her loved ones were set up to live long lives. She admitted that she was concerned that something was seriously wrong with Jason, but he insisted that he was fine. Robin feared that the episodes of rage would worsen until he hurt someone close to him, like Sam. Jason argued that nothing like that would happen, because he knew when the anger had started, and why. However, he refused to elaborate.Robin was curious if Sam knew about Jason's bouts of uncontrollable anger. Jason's silence spoke volumes, so Robin wondered why Jason expected her to tell Patrick about her situation, but he refused to say anything to Sam about the episodes of rage. Jason agreed to have a follow-up exam if Robin promised to talk to Patrick about her own health problems. 12/28 At the penthouse, Jason offered to have a post-op check up if Robin agreed to tell Patrick that her drug protocol had stopped working. Robin wondered if Jason were truly prepared to risk his health to blackmail her. Jason explained that he would do whatever necessary to get through to her. She warned Jason that everything would change if Patrick were to find out that her life-saving cocktail of medications had failed. Jason was unmoved, so Robin wondered why he was being so stubborn. She was curious if Jason would blame himself if Franco were to do something to Sam. "Where did that come from?" Jason asked, startled. Robin explained that her meds had stopped working, because Lisa had tampered with them, so Patrick would blame himself. Jason argued that Patrick would do that regardless, so it didn't matter. He insisted that Robin couldn't take Patrick's guilt away, but she could let Patrick help her. Moments later, Jason's phone rang. He perked up when the caller revealed that they might have a lead on Franco. Jason instructed the person to call back when there was proof, and then abruptly ended the call. Robin had noticed Jason's burst of temper, so she warned him that he appeared to have a serious neurological problem. She feared that the attacks would continue to get worse, so she begged Jason to seek medical treatment. Jason reminded her of his terms, but Robin pleaded with Jason not to throw his life with Sam away. Jason stood firm, and then explained that he needed to take care of something first anyway. Robin relented, but she warned Jason that he only had until the end of the night to hold up his end of the bargain. Moments later, Michael knocked on the door. Robin offered Michael her condolences, and then left. Michael wondered if Sam were around, so Jason revealed that she was at work. Michael thought that it was probably for the best that Sam kept busy, and then asked if Jason were curious about the trip to New Zealand. Jason figured that Michael would talk about it when Michael was ready, which made Michael smile. Michael appreciated that Jason and Sam never pushed him. Jason was stunned when Michael revealed that Sam had told him about what Franco had done in Hawaii. Jason recovered quickly, and then admitted that it was good to know that Sam had found someone whom she could talk to. Michael was curious how Jason was holding up, because Jason had been forced to watch what Franco had done. In a burst of temper, Jason knocked the books off of the coffee table, and then admitted that he wanted to kill "that son of bitch." "Jason, this is why Sam can't talk to you," Michael replied. After Jason's rage subsided, he revealed that he might have a lead on Franco. Michael insisted that Sam was more important than finding Franco, but Jason argued that Michael didn't understand Jason's need to make Franco pay. Michael warned Jason that the more Jason focused on revenge, the more alone Sam would feel, which was why Sam couldn't open up to Jason. Michael explained that Sam needed to feel comforted and supported, but all Jason had to offer was rage. Moments later, Robin called to remind Jason of their deal, so she wanted to know when he would arrive at the hospital for the checkup. Jason was curious if Robin had held up her end of the bargain, but Robin argued that it wasn't an answer. Jason insisted that he had to go, but he promised to talk to Robin later. After Jason ended the call, he started to leave, but Michael stopped him. Michael advised Jason not to get caught up in the hate, or Sam might slip away. Later, Robin was relieved when she saw Jason arrive at the hospital. Jason admitted that he was ready for answers. Seconds later, Jason's phone rang. The caller informed Jason that they had proof of Franco's location, so Jason assured the caller that he would be right there. Robin tried to stop Jason from leaving the hospital, but he promised her that he would be back. He reminded Robin of their deal, and then disappeared into the elevator. 12/30 Sam tossed and turned in bed as the nightmare of Franco's rape haunted her. Jason called, and she told him how much she wanted him to be with her during the holiday. He told her that Franco was gone. Sam asked Jason to forget about Franco, at least for the night. Jason responded that he couldn't let it go. Sam all but begged until Jason relented and promised to go home. Later, Sam realized that her period was late. On his way home, Jason suddenly sees Michael standing in the middle of the road and has to ditch his bike. 1/3 Jason and Michael lay unconscious on the roadside, following a motorcycle accident. Jason awoke first, so he quickly rushed to Michael's side to check on his nephew, who remained unconscious. Dante arrived on the scene to assure Jason that an ambulance had been called. Michael's eyes snapped open. "You knew, didn't you?" Michael angrily demanded as he glared at Jason. Michael was furious that Jason had kept the truth about Jax a secret, thereby depriving Josslyn of her father, and adding to Morgan's pain. "You didn't even think about it, did you? How much it hurt to lose somebody that you love," Michael accused Jason. Disgusted, Michael got up, and then walked away. Jason started to follow Michael, but Dante volunteered to look after Michael. At the penthouse, Sam realized that her period was late. She quickly recovered from the shock, grabbed her coat, and then left. A short time later, Sam returned home with a home pregnancy test kit in hand. She dropped the bag in a chair when Jason called to ask her to meet him at the hospital, because he had been in an accident. At GH, Carly quickly raced to Jason's side when she spotted Jason exit the elevator. Jason explained that Michael had unexpectedly darted out into the road, so Jason had swerved to avoid a collision. Carly revealed that Michael had been upset, because she hadn't told Michael about Jax. Jason insisted that Michael was grieving for Abby, not Jax, so Michael was looking for an outlet. "Right now, it's us," Jason added. "Us? Why is he mad at you?" Carly asked. Jason explained that Michael was upset that Carly had confided to Jason about Jax, but Carly reminded Jason that she hadn't told Jason until months later. Jason insisted that it didn't matter to Michael, so they needed to be patient, and to give Michael time to work things out. Patrick approached Jason to ask some questions about the accident. Patrick decided to examine Jason for possible injuries, and to give him a post-op check-up. Patrick revealed that Robin had been concerned about Jason's recovery from the operation. "I'm worried about Robin too," Jason replied, but Patrick suspected that Jason's remark was a diversionary tactic. Moments later, Sam entered the examination bay to hug her husband. Patrick insisted that they had to run some tests, so Jason reluctantly agreed to cooperate. Later, Jason and Sam returned the penthouse. Jason reminded Sam that he was fine, but Sam pointed out that the tests were still out. Sam wanted Jason to take it easy, but Jason was eager to talk to Michael. Sam explained that Michael was grieving, so he was looking for a reason to lash out at people. Jason realized that his quest to find Franco had nearly hurt Michael, so Jason was determined to make his life with Sam about them, not Franco. 1/4 At the penthouse, Jason decided to check on Michael. Sam thought that it was a good idea, but she was curious if Jason wanted to discuss what had happened the previous night. Sam knew that the accident had been hard on Jason. Jason admitted that he was shaken up by what had happened, so he needed to see Michael. Sam offered to go with him, so she dashed to the bedroom to fetch her jacket. Jason wandered over to the sofa, where he noticed Jake's motorcycle lying on the table. Bittersweet memories of Jake showing Jason the toy assailed Jason as he picked up the motorcycle. Jason's eyes filled with tears, as he shook off the memories, and then called to Sam to see if she were ready. In the bedroom, Sam tugged on her jacket as she kicked the pharmacy bag, with the home pregnancy test, under the bed. Sam and Jason knocked on Michael’s door. Michael welcomed Sam, but he was cold towards Jason, because Jason had kept Carly's secret. Jason explained that he had only learned that Jax had survived the crash months later. "You still owed us the truth," Michael shouted. Sam reminded Michael that Jason had other things going on, while they had been in Hawaii, but Michael was unmoved. Jason mentioned Abby's name, prompting another outburst from Michael. Jason quietly explained that he regretted that he hadn't been waiting for Michael when Michael had returned. "You mean you should have protected me," Michael spat, and then suggested that Jason could do that by persuading Sonny to let Michael into the business. Jason was surprised, because he had thought that Michael had liked managing the coffee warehouse. Michael admitted that he had also liked waking up next to Abby every morning, but things had changed. Michael explained that there wasn't a crime-free future left to plan for, but he would call Jason if anything changed. Michael then slammed the door in Sam and Jason's faces. Jason and Sam returned home. Jason was frustrated, because he couldn't help Michael. Sam explained that Michael was going through a lot, so Jason shouldn't take it personally. Jason insisted that he was concerned, because Michael wasn't thinking clearly, and he wanted to get into the business. Sam was certain that Michael would calm down, once Michael had a chance to process everything. Jason didn't hold out much hope for that, because of Michael's reaction to the news about Jax.Sam suggested that everything was still fresh for Michael, so he couldn't see that Carly had actually done the right thing by keeping quiet about Jax surviving the crash. 1/5 At the penthouse, Jason hated that Michael thought that Jason had lied about Jax. Sam insisted that it wasn't really lying if someone kept quiet to spare another person pain. Moments later, Molly called. Molly wanted Sam to meet her at Kelly's earlier than they had planned, because Molly had something to show Sam. Sam promised to join her sister shortly, and then ended the call. Sam then advised Jason to find a way to talk Sonny down, before Sonny went after Jax. Moments later, Spinelli entered the penthouse. He stopped when he saw Sam and Jason standing in the living room. Spinelli explained that he had decided to move out, because "three's a crowd," so he was there to collect his things. Jason and Sam insisted that it wasn't necessary, but Spinelli's mind was made up. Sam assured Spinelli that there wasn't a rush for him to move out, and then left for Kelly's. Jason led Spinelli to the living room to find out what Spinelli intended to do about Sonny's missing money. Spinelli assured Jason that the twenty million dollars had been returned. Jason was shocked that Spinelli had found the missing money. Spinelli became evasive, which didn't escape Jason's notice. Jason demanded answers, so Spinelli confessed that he had an ability to predict the outcome of sporting events.Spinelli then revealed that he had an intricate network of friends, known as FOS, "Friends Of Spinelli," who had made bets on the games, and then had given Spinelli a small percentage of their winnings. Spinelli had used part of that money to replace Sonny's missing millions, before donating the rest to various charities. Jason was intrigued when Spinelli confided that his friends were able to provide Spinelli with video footage, data, and anything else that Spinelli needed. Jason realized that the FOS network essentially accomplished the same thing that Spinelli had formerly done on the computer. "Yes," Spinelli confirmed. Jason wondered about leaks, but Spinelli assured Jason that everything was confidential. Jason decided to put the FOS network to the test by requesting footage of an obscure location on a random date. Within seconds, Spinelli had the requested footage available for Jason to review. Jason revealed that he had promised Sam not to pursue Franco until they had concrete proof of Franco's whereabouts. Spinelli offered to help locate Franco using the FOS network, but Jason wasn't ready to take that step. However, he assured Spinelli that he would let Spinelli know when he was. Ewen told Molly about an Aboriginal myth regarding the spirit of a child who had hidden until it had found its mother, and could take human form. Sam entered as Molly wondered if the spirit of the child had been good or evil. Sam quickly approached the table before Ewen could answer Molly's question. Molly introduced Sam, and then revealed that Sam was a newlywed, so Molly hoped that Sam soon had a baby. Sam smiled uncomfortably as Ewen tactfully excused himself. Sam immediately scolded Molly for talking to Ewen, and then reminded her that the last thing that their mother needed was another daughter falling for an Australian guy. Aghast, Molly pointed out that Dr. Keenan was "like thirty." Sam relaxed when Molly explained that she liked the doctor, because he was helping Shawn. Sam noticed the photo album on the table, so Molly revealed that she had found it at Wyndemere. Molly had hoped that Sam could help identify some of the people in the pictures, but Sam quickly clarified that she did not recognize any of the Cassadines. Molly then showed Sam the button that Molly had found on the beach. Molly was curious if Sam had any guesses who the owner might be, so Sam suggested that perhaps Nikolas had dropped it. Molly thought that it might belong to the mystery man who had saved Elizabeth. Sam confessed that she suspected that Elizabeth had made the story up, because Elizabeth had been a "little delirious." Molly appreciated that Sam was so down-to-earth, but Molly voted for the stranger theory. Sam smiled, and then asked Molly to ignore her, because Sam loved that Molly was so innocent and imaginative. "Maybe too innocent," Molly quietly admitted. Sam was curious about Molly's comment, so Molly confessed that her friends had changed since they had entered high school. According to Molly, her peers constantly talked about sex. Sam cautioned Molly not to change too much, because she envied Molly. Molly had no idea why Sam would feel that way, since Sam's life with Jason was great. "Isn't it?" Molly asked. Molly was relieved when Sam assured Molly that everything was fine. Molly confessed that Sam and Jason were a perfect couple, and so passionate, so Molly would be deeply disillusioned about love if Sam and Jason were to break up. Sam promised Molly that they wouldn't, so Molly resumed talking about the button. Molly wondered if Sam could help her find the owner of the button, but Sam admitted that it was beyond her skills as a private detective. A few minutes later, Sam announced that she had to leave, so she offered to pay for lunch. Sam went to the counter to settle the bill. As she turned to leave, Ewen confessed that it had been nice to meet her, and then told her to take care of herself. Sam returned home, with the pregnancy test kit safely nestled in her jacket pocket. Spinelli had packed most of his things, so he stopped to say goodbye to Sam as she entered. Spinelli then thanked Jason for giving him a place to live, friendship, and guidance. Spinelli urged Jason to call if Jason changed his mind about the other matter. After Spinelli left, Sam questioned Jason about Spinelli's cryptic comment. Jason explained that Spinelli had offered to find Franco, but Sam asked Jason not to do it right away. 1/6 Michael called Sam to apologize for having unloaded on her. She told him she would always be there to talk, but Michael replied that it was time for action. Sam urged Michael to talk to Jason. Michael said he didn't need help; he knew what he needed to do. After she hung up, Sam told Jason, who got his gun and told her he needed to stop Franco so they could move on. Jason went back to where he had run Michael over with his motorcycle and was surprised to find Michael there. Michael asked why Jason had always taken responsibility for Michael's mistakes. Before Jason answered, Michael admitted it was his fault that Abby had been killed. Michael threatened to work for the Zaccharas. Jason begged him to reconsider, but Michael's decision had been made. Later, Jason went to see Patrick at the hospital and asked about Robin, before he passed out. Sam approached the graffiti on the brick wall in the alley and realized it might be Franco's way of reminding her that she could be carrying his child. She went home and took a pregnancy test. 1/9 At General Hospital, Patrick examined Jason and Monica comforted Sam. Jason passed out briefly, but recovered before Patrick got him on a gurney. Jason wanted to leave without tests, but Patrick insisted. In the exam room, Jason said he was experiencing numbness in his hand when Patrick asked about other symptoms. Patrick said he would run more tests to determine whether or not the numbness was due to Jason's latest brain surgery or to a previous shoulder injury. Jason was surprised to hear that Robin was looking for him. Patrick wanted to know what Jason knew about Robin that Patrick did not. Jason said that he had known Robin at a different time in her life and perhaps she felt comfortable talking to Jason about those times. Jason said that he knew Robin loved Patrick and encouraged Patrick to talk to Robin. Patrick told Jason that by the same token, he should talk to Sam. Monica alerted Sam to Jason's condition and said that Jason was having tests, but for the moment, anyway, Jason seemed to be okay. Monica asked if Jason had experienced any other symptoms, but Sam noted that Jason was stoic and did not complain about pain. Monica said that Sam understood Jason very well. Monica said that it had hit her hard to find out that she was related to Jake only after the little boy was dead. Sam said that Jason had not intended to hurt Monica; he had only wanted to do what was best for Jake. Monica encouraged Sam to try to get pregnant, not to replace Jake, but for Sam's sake. Monica said that Jason took terrible chances. Monica feared Sam would have regrets if she missed out on having a baby with the man she loved. Before Sam could respond, Monica got paged and left Sam sitting quietly and thinking. As Monica walked away, Sam examined the pregnancy test she had taken earlier. Patrick approached Sam and updated her on Jason's condition and the tests that he had ordered for Jason. He asked if Jason had experienced headaches or other symptoms, including mood swings. Sam told Patrick about Jason's angry outbursts without mentioning Franco. Patrick said that the best thing Sam could do for Jason was try to help keep his stress level down. After Patrick was gone, Sam looked at the pregnancy test again. Monica found Jason in the examination room. She asked him how he was feeling and informed him that Sam was waiting in the lobby. Jason said he did not want Sam to worry. Monica laughingly said that worrying was part of a wife's job. Monica admitted she might be overstepping when she encouraged Jason to try for a baby with Sam. She said that a child was the greatest gift two people could give each other. Before leaving, she told Jason that she loved him. Sam hid the pregnancy test from Jason when he approached her to ask if she was okay. 1/10 At the hospital, Patrick and Robin discussed Jason's case. Robin was frustrated, because Jason was not a cooperative patient. Patrick confessed that he was concerned about the remarks that Jason had made about Robin. Robin managed to assuage Patrick's uneasiness by suggesting that Jason had been worried about Robin's determination to help her AIDS patient. Patrick revealed that he knew that Jason had paid to have Robin and Stone's bridge rebuilt. Robin was shocked at the idea that Patrick might be jealous, but Patrick assured her that he wasn't, because if it hadn't been for Jason then Patrick would never have met Robin. In the waiting area, Sam asked Jason to hold her. Jason wrapped his arms around his wife, and then assured her that he was fine. Sam insisted that neither of them were okay, but Jason argued that he had passed out because of lack of sleep. Sam loved Jason, but she pointed out that he'd had brain surgery over the summer, and then had recently had a motorcycle accident. She also reminded him that he'd had fits of anger, and problems with his left hand. Jason revealed that Patrick suspected that the "hand thing" was a result of Jason getting shot in the shoulder. "What about when you go still?" Sam asked. Jason had no idea what she was talking about, so Sam explained that she had seen him periodically drift off, and disconnect. Moments later, Patrick and Robin joined Sam and Jason. Robin was curious if it had been the first time that Jason had passed out. Jason assured Robin that it had been, but Robin wondered if perhaps Jason had passed out just before the accident on New Year's Eve. "No way," Jason insisted. Sam told the doctors that Jason had been sleeping less than normal, and that she had found Jason staring out the window, as if he were unaware of his surroundings. Patrick wondered if Jason had experienced any headaches. Jason assured them that he hadn't, but Robin quickly clarified that they were curious about even mild headaches. Jason reluctantly admitted that he'd had a few. Sam decided to tell the doctors about Jason going still, when it seemed that he didn't hear anyone, on several occasions. Robin recalled that Jason had had an episode like that in jail, during one of her visits. Jason assured Robin that he'd heard Robin, but he had been thinking about something that he hadn't wanted to discuss with her. Sam realized that Jason had been referring to Franco. After Patrick stepped away, Robin instructed Jason and Sam to keep a detailed list of Jason's symptoms, and to continue to monitor Jason. Jason balked at being watched, but Robin argued that it was necessary, so that they could properly diagnose Jason. Sam's cell phone rang, so she excused herself to take the call. Robin hoped that Jason wasn't mad at her for pushing him to have the tests. "You mad at me?" Jason wondered. Robin confessed that she had been impressed with is ability to finesse the truth. Jason assured her that he hadn't told Patrick exactly what was going on with her. Robin appreciated that Jason had kept her secret. She then changed the subject by urging Jason to reassure Sam, and not to take any risks, because it was clear that Sam was terrified. Moments later, Patrick returned with the results of the latest round of tests. Robin was disappointed that nothing was conclusive, so they would need to run some more tests on Jason. Jason insisted that he knew what was wrong with him, and it wasn't medical. Sam knew that Jason was once again referring to Franco, but she kept silent. Moments later, a nurse informed Robin that the car service had arrived to take Robin to the airport. Patrick decided to walk his wife to the car, so Robin urged Jason to let Patrick run whatever tests were needed. Jason reluctantly agreed. After Robin and Patrick walked away, Jason explained that the tests were unnecessary, because they both knew why he was mad; however, he agreed to do whatever Patrick asked of him to ease Sam's concerns. Sam revealed that she needed to tell Jason something. Jason explained that he needed to tie up some loose ends first, so that he could give Sam his full attention. Patrick approached Sam to explain that it was important to keep Jason calm until they could figure out what was going on with Jason. Sam promised to do what she could. Nearby, Jason left Spinelli a message ordering Spinelli to find Franco. Sam wandered to the maternity ward. A woman, who had been looking at the newborns, struck up a conversation with Sam. The woman pointed to one of the infants, and then revealed that it was her daughter. She wondered if Sam had any children, so Sam admitted that she didn't. The woman admitted that having a child was the most incredible thing that a woman could experience. Moments later, the woman was given permission to enter the room to hold her newborn daughter. Sam's eyes misted as she watched the woman gently rock the baby in her arms. 1/12 At Pozzulo's, Sonny was on the phone with Jason, demanding that the person responsible for the shooting at the restaurant be held accountable. Jason assured Sonny that he was on it, but Sonny argued that from where he was standing, Jason was letting everything fall through the cracks because of Franco. Sonny was not pleased, because Johnny was hanging around Michael. Jason promised to take care of it, but Sonny had his doubts. Sonny realized that it wasn't easy for Jason to let go of what had happened with Franco, but Jason needed to get past it. Jason argued that Franco was not someone who should be let go, but Sonny warned Jason that was exactly how Franco wanted Jason to feel. Sonny advised Jason to get past it or it would eat Jason alive. Sam ran into Jason's arms when he entered the penthouse. She admitted that she had missed him when she had woken up and realized that he had left. Jason explained that he hadn't been able to sleep, because of Franco. Sam admitted that she had heard Jason talking on the phone in the hallway. Jason confessed that Sonny sensed that something was wrong, but Jason couldn't forget what Franco had done to Sam. Jason blamed himself for what had happened to Sam, because he had involved her in Franco's games by marrying her. Sam insisted that Jason wasn't to blame. She reminded him that they loved each other, so they would get each other through it. Jason didn't know if he could drop it. Sam was frustrated when the phone rang. Jason urged her to answer the call when she saw that it was Alexis. Alexis begged Sam to meet her at Kelly's, because Molly was about to write Alexis off as a mother. Sam reluctantly agreed, and then ended the call. Sam arrived and joined Alexis and Molly at Kelly’s. Alexis tried to cheer Molly up by inviting Molly to order whatever Molly wanted, but Molly only wanted her freedom. Molly explained to Sam that Alexis was policing Molly's MyFace page. Exasperated, Alexis agreed to stop, "because you know what my mother was doing when I was your age? Nothing, because she was dead." Sam and Molly wore matching expressions of shock as Alexis stormed away from the table. A few minutes later, Alexis returned, and then apologized for the outburst; she realized that it had been unfair. Sam tactfully suggested that Alexis was trying to say that she was sorry for being a bit protective, and overbearing, but Alexis would be there for Molly when Molly needed her. Sam admitted that she wished that she'd had that growing up, so Molly was lucky to have a mother like Alexis. "I guess," Molly grudgingly admitted. Alexis smiled, and decided to drop it. Molly flipped through the Cassadine family photo album, and then remarked that it appeared that none of the Cassadines had that kind of parent, because they all looked sad and dark. "Don't forget mentally unstable," Alexis added. Molly confessed that she had read that mental illness was inherited, but Sam assured Molly that Molly didn't have to worry about that. Molly worried about her future children. "Won't the craziness get passed on to them?" Molly asked. Sam grew quiet at the thought, but neither Molly nor Alexis seemed to notice. Alexis took the photo album from Molly, and then began to look at the pictures. Alexis saw a picture of Olga, an intense woman who had worked for the Cassadines, and a picture of Alexis and Stefan as children. Molly recalled that Uncle Stefan had liked poetry. "From the pricking of my thumb, something wicked this way comes," Alexis and Molly said in unison. "Creepy," Sam replied. Alexis explained that it was a line from Shakespeare. Molly recalled that she had felt something wicked arrive on the night of the storm a few months back, but Alexis insisted that whatever it had been was long gone. Molly suggested that perhaps it was waiting to return, prompting Sam to wonder what they were talking about. Alexis assured Sam that it was nothing, but Molly reminded them of the baby that Dr. Keenan had told her about, who had ridden the wind, and then had slipped into the mother's body. Alexis sensed that something was troubling Sam, so she asked her daughter how things were with Jason. Sam assured her mother that everything was fine, but Alexis had her doubts, so she ordered Sam to go home to talk to Jason. Sam told Molly that Alexis' intuition was exactly why moms were great to have around, and then left. Molly took the album back from Alexis, and then noticed that there weren't any pictures after the ones of Alexis and Stefan. Alexis explained that they had disappeared one day, and no one ever knew what had happened to them. Spinelli arrived at the penthouse to reveal that his friends had located Franco. Jason demanded to know where Franco was, but Spinelli was reluctant to tell him, because he feared that Jason would do something that Jason would later regret. Spinelli urged Jason to think things over before he went after Franco. Jason insisted on knowing where Franco was, so Spinelli admitted that Franco had been hiding in plain sight at the art gallery. Later, Sam arrived home and found a note on the desk from Jason that read, "It couldn't wait." Franco smiled when he heard the door to his studio slam shut. "What a surprise. Pleasant or not remains to be seen," Franco said as Jason appeared in the studio with his gun raised. Jason explained that Franco had left a trail, so Franco admitted that he hadn't been hiding. Franco realized that Jason felt helpless, because of what had happened in Hawaii. Jason wondered why Franco had let Jason find him. "That would be the question. What would you do for the answer?" Franco wondered. 1/13 Sam left a message for Jason, begging him not to go after Franco. After hanging up, she reminisced about her and Jason's wedding at the Chinese restaurant. She prayed that Jason was the father of her unborn child. Sam made calls to people who might know where Jason had gone. Michael arrived and asked her to help him find the man he was convinced was responsible for the attacks on the strippers. Sam was concerned that Michael sought revenge and would do something impulsive. Later, Michael met a young man in an alley and illegally purchased a handgun. At Franco's studio, Jason held a gun on Franco and demanded to know what game Franco was playing. Franco answered in riddles. Jason shot him in the shoulder. Franco said that Jason would never know why he'd entered Jason's life if Jason were to kill him. Jason shot once more, hitting the man squarely in the chest. Jason sped away, leaving behind an inferno at Franco's studio. Jason returned to the penthouse, where a relieved Sam greeted him. He announced that it was over; Franco was out of their lives for good. Sam responded, "I'm pregnant." 1/16 At the penthouse, Jason was stunned to learn that Sam was pregnant. Sam said that she had wanted to tell Jason earlier, but Patrick had told her to keep Jason's stress to a minimum, and she had. Jason asked Sam how she felt, and she said that she did not know. Jason wanted to know if Sam had seen a doctor, but Sam said that she had taken two home pregnancy tests, which were nearly 100% reliable and both had confirmed what she already knew, that she was carrying a child. Sam wanted to know how Jason felt. Jason wanted to know Sam's feelings. Sam said that after all the time of not being able to get pregnant, she was not sure. She asked if she and Jason would be okay. Jason said that he loved Sam. Sam said she had dreamed of the day that she could tell Jason that she was having a baby, but had never considered it would be under such circumstances. Jason told Sam that Franco was gone and could not harm her. Jason said that being married to her was the best thing that had ever happened to him and the only thing that made sense. Sam asked what they were going to do. She said that she had wanted a baby but not under such conditions. Jason told Sam that she did not have to worry about Franco any more. He said that their love had gotten them that far, and they could handle anything. "Even if the baby is Franco's?" Sam asked and then said that she could not bear the thought of having Franco's baby. Jason said he would support whatever decision Sam made. Sam asked for Jason's honest feelings and whether or not he could raise Franco's child. Jason said that he did not know. Sam said that they had to hope and pray that the baby was theirs. 1/18 At McCall and Jackal Private Investigations, Spinelli revealed to Jason that a fire had been reported at Franco's art studio. Jason wondered if a body had been recovered. Spinelli confirmed that the authorities had found the charred remains of a body, and that it had been identified as Franco. Jason was curious if the cause of the fire had been determined, so Spinelli told him that the fire had been ruled an accident after a bottle of turpentine had tipped over. Jason thanked Spinelli for the information. Spinelli wondered if it meant that Franco's "demonic presence" would no longer cast a shadow on all of them. Jason assured Spinelli that it was finally over with Franco, but Spinelli noticed that Jason didn't seem as excited as Spinelli had expected. Jason assured Spinelli that Spinelli's help had meant a lot to Jason. At the penthouse, Sam had a nightmare of Franco. She dreamed of him snapping pictures of her during her time as his captive in the glass enclosure that had a bomb rigged to it. She then dreamed of being drugged, showering, and Franco swooping her up to carry her to the bedroom. The terrifying memories woke Sam up. Later, she was relieved when Jason arrived home. Sam was proud of herself for not giving in to the urge to call Jason. Jason and Sam went to the living room, as she told him about her nightmare of Franco. She confessed that she hated feeling scared and weak. Jason insisted that she wasn't, and then held her in his arms. Sam enjoyed his attempt to comfort her, but she pulled away, because they needed to decide what to do with the baby. She pointed out that it might be Franco's baby. Sam confided that she regretted having the procedure to restore her fertility, but Jason urged her not to, because she had wanted a baby. Sam clarified that she had wanted Jason's baby, prompting Jason to wonder if she were thinking about terminating the pregnancy. Sam admitted that she didn't want to have Franco's baby, but she didn't know what to do. Jason reminded her that the baby might be his. Sam realized that, but she had a lot of hate and anger inside of her, and feared that she would end up putting it on the child. "What if the baby looks like Franco?" Sam wondered. Jason vowed to stand by Sam, regardless what she decided to do about the baby. Later, Sam ended a call with Kelly Lee. Sam explained that Kelly had assured Sam that there was a way to safely determine the baby's paternity. Jason insisted that they should do it, so that they knew exactly what they were facing. 1/19 At Jason's penthouse, Sonny and Jason argued about how to deal with the Zaccharas. Sonny was certain that Johnny was responsible for shooting him, but Jason cautioned Sonny not to make a move until they were certain. Jason explained that they weren't in a position to make any mistakes. Sonny argued that Johnny kept using Sonny's children to get to Sonny, so it was time to take Johnny out. Jason refused, because he claimed that he couldn't do it. Sonny was curious if Jason meant that literally. Jason revealed that he had been having some problems with his left hand, which might stem from complications of Jason's recent brain surgery. Sonny was stunned, but he recalled that Jason shot with his right hand. Jason admitted that he could shoot a gun with both hands, but there had also been some blackouts. Sonny wondered why Jason hadn't mentioned it sooner, so Jason explained that the tests had been inconclusive. Sonny was curious if perhaps Jason were using the blackouts as an excuse not to deal with Johnny. Jason denied it, and then asked Sonny for some time to look into the recent shooting, as well as the others, to make certain that Johnny had been behind them. Jason explained that Sonny's gunshot wound had been the result of a nine-millimeter gun, which would require the shooter to stand at close range. Jason insisted that Johnny was a better shot than that, so it appeared to have been the work of an amateur. Sonny usually trusted Jason's judgment, except in regards to Johnny. Sonny couldn't understand why Jason always seemed to protect the younger Zacchara. Jason argued that if they went after the Zaccharas, and it turned out that they hadn't been responsible for the shooting in the warehouse and the two shootings at Pozzulo's, then it would be the Jax situation all over again. Jason apologized for not being there for Sonny when everything had fallen apart with Sonny's marriage to Brenda. Sonny assured Jason that he understood, because Jason had been dealing with having brain surgery. Jason pointed out that they couldn't afford to make another mistake, like what had happened with Jax, but Sonny wondered why he should wait to have Johnny killed when Jason hadn't shown the same restraint with Franco. Sonny admitted that he had never seen Jason lose it like he had with Franco, which concerned Sonny. Jason assured Sonny that everything was under control, and then agreed to arrange "the accident" as they had discussed. 1/23 Jason and Sam had an appointment with Kelly at GH. They agreed not to tell anyone about her pregnancy until they found out the result of the paternity test. Kelly told them that the CVS test would determine paternity, but was considered invasive and might cause a miscarriage. Sam said that she had to know and insisted that Kelly conduct the test. While Kelly did the test, Jason waited in the lobby where he ran into Elizabeth. She was curious about his visit to GH, but Jason said he was awaiting results of his tests. They talked about Robin and learned that each of them had encouraged Robin to tell Patrick the truth about her condition. Kelly and Sam joined Jason. Kelly said the results of the test would be back in a week to ten days. Sam told Jason that she wanted to go home and curl up in his arms. Jason said that no matter what happened, he would be there for her. As they left, Elizabeth mentioned the tests, but when Elizabeth indicated that she meant Jason's tests, Sam was relieved that her secret was still safe. 1/24 Michael went to McCall and Jackal Private Investigations to hire Sam to find the guy who had been attacking the dancers. Michael warned her that he was afraid that he might do something that he would regret if she didn't take the job. Sam advised Michael to let the police handle the investigation, but Michael explained that the police had released a man named Chuck Donofrio, despite proof that Donofrio had assaulted the dancers. Michael insisted that he would take matters into his own hands if Donofrio weren't arrested. Sam was stunned when Michael showed her the gun that he had tucked into his pants. Sam demanded to know where Michael had gotten the gun, but Michael didn't think that it mattered. "It does, if you are planning to use it," Sam argued. Michael insisted that Donofrio was a piece of garbage that should be made to pay for attacking the dancers, so he wanted Sam to get something on Donofrio. Michael explained that Abby was everything to him, but Sam warned Michael that Abby would not want Michael to take the law into his own hands. Michael was frustrated, because everyone, including Sonny and Johnny, had refused to help him. Michael was determined to stop Donofrio, if no one else did, but Sam thought that it was a bad idea. "Isn't that what Jason did to Franco?" Michael asked. Sam insisted that Jason would not want Michael to go after Donofrio. Sam reminded Michael that Abby's death had been an accident, but Michael argued that Abby had died, because he had sent her to Chicago, and then he had distracted Abby by talking to her on the phone. Sam accused Michael of making up reasons to blame himself for what had happened. Michael had no idea how he was supposed to go on without Abby, so Sam urged Michael to give it some time. Michael admitted that he still did things that he and Abby had done, but it became harder each day, because it reminded him that he and Abby no longer had a future together. Sam was certain that Abby would want Michael to carry on without her, not to stop his life. Michael insisted that Abby would want the person, responsible for the attacks on Abby's friends, found. Michael thought that it was the least that he could do to honor Abby's memory. Sam argued that Abby would "freak" if she knew that he had a gun. Michael promised Sam that he didn't intend to use it; he planned to throw it into the harbor, and watch it sink. Meanwhile, Michael wanted Sam to investigate Donofrio. Sam wondered if Michael were sure that Donofrio was responsible for the attacks, so Michael explained that he was certain enough to want to kill the man. At the Drake residence, Jason wondered how Robin was doing. Robin admitted that she was jetlagged, but Jason clarified that he wanted to know about her health. Robin explained that she had gone to Seattle to see a doctor, who had started her on a third drug protocol, but they wouldn't know the results for a few more weeks. Robin then revealed that Elizabeth had told Patrick that Robin's viral loads were unstable, so Patrick had confronted Robin about it when Robin had arrived home. Robin confessed that Patrick had been wonderful and supportive after she had explained that she had been hesitant to tell Patrick about her health crisis, because of what had happened to Stone. Robin then switched gears to ask about Jason's ongoing health problems. She wondered if he were still having episodes of rage. Jason assured her that he was fine, so Robin admitted that she had read about the fire at Franco's art gallery, and the artist's death. However, she remained concerned about Jason, because she noticed that his fist was clenched, so she was certain that Jason's anger remained a problem. Jason admitted that he still had bouts of anger, but they were less frequent. Robin suspected that Jason's episodes of rage were physiological, so she urged him to follow up on the tests. 1/25 At McCall and Jackal Private Investigations, Jason was surprised to see Sam at work. Sam explained that she hadn't been able to relax at home, because she had been obsessing about the paternity test, so she had decided to review some case files. Jason reminded Sam that they wouldn't know the results of the paternity test for another week. Sam realized that, but she needed to keep busy. Jason held up the newspaper, which featured a front-page story on Franco. He implored Sam not to think about Franco, so Sam assured Jason that she would try. Jason switched gears to ask if Sam had been having any morning sickness. Sam shook her head, but Jason decided that she needed something to eat, so he left to fetch some food. Shortly afterwards, Sam called the hospital to see if the test results were in. Jason appeared in the doorway as she ended the call. "Is it mine?" he asked. Sam explained that she had been checking on his test results, but they weren't in. Jason promised Sam that he was fine, but Sam disagreed, because they had the paternity issue hanging over their heads. Sam wanted Jason to take care of himself, because if the child were theirs, then he or she would need Jason. Jason assured Sam that he wasn't going anywhere. Sam then changed the subject by urging him to talk to Michael. She explained that Michael had asked her to find Chuck Donofrio, the man who had been questioned, and then released, regarding the attacks on the dancers. Sam warned Jason that Michael had a gun. After Jason left, Alexis stopped by to drop off a pair of earrings that Kristina had borrowed from Sam. However, Alexis realized that she had forgotten them at home. As they chatted, Alexis mentioned that Molly was tutoring a boy named T.J., but Alexis was concerned, because T.J. had already gotten into trouble shortly after arriving in Port Charles. Sam grew concerned about her mother when she noticed that Alexis seemed out of breath, and overheated. Alexis insisted that she was fine, but she sensed that Sam was hiding something. Sam claimed that she had no idea what Alexis was talking about, but Alexis saw through the lie. Alexis shrewdly eyed her daughter, and then asked. "Are you pregnant?" At Kelly's, Jason pulled Shawn aside to find out if Shawn had seen Michael. Shawn was curious if something were wrong, but Jason refused to elaborate. Jason then switched gears to find out what Shawn knew about the shooting at Pozzulo's. Shawn explained that he had gone to the office to resign, because he had intended to make some changes in his life. Shawn then revealed that it was more important than ever to make those changes, because the son of the man that Shawn had killed in Afghanistan had moved in with Shawn. Shawn wasn't sure if things would work out; however, Shawn explained that it was "heavy stuff" raising another man's kid. Jason looked uncomfortable, but didn't respond. After Jason left the diner, he stopped to leave a message for Michael to call him, because it was important. On the waterfront, Dante spotted Michael crouched over a body in an alley. Michael explained that the man on the ground was Chuck Donofrio. Dante shoved Michael out of the way, and then checked on the victim. Dante realized that Chuck Donofrio had been shot in the chest. Michael clutched a gun in his hand as he looked down at Chuck's body. 1/26 In the waterfront alley, Michael denied that he had killed Chuck Donofrio, but Dante pointed out that it was difficult to believe Michael when Michael had been making threats against Donofrio at the police station, and was holding a gun. Michael insisted that he had no idea who had killed Donofrio, because Donofrio had been dead when Michael had entered the alley. Dante decided that Michael needed to get far away from the crime scene before the police arrived, because Michael would be the prime suspect, and Dante refused to let Michael go back to Pentonville. As the police sirens closed in, Michael left. Meanwhile, Jason had been lurking nearby, eavesdropping. Moments later, Ronnie and Delores arrived on the scene, with guns drawn. They holstered their weapons when they realized that Dante was alone, and that Chuck Donofrio was dead. Ronnie suggested that justice had been served when he determined that Donofrio had died of a single gunshot to the chest. At McCall and Jackal Private Investigations, Sam was curious why Alexis thought that Sam was pregnant. Alexis explained that it was a mother's intuition, and then demanded to know if her suspicions were true. Sam confirmed that she was pregnant, prompting Alexis to race to the window, throw it open, and then stick her head outside. After Alexis cooled off, she grew teary-eyed as she admitted that she couldn't believe that her baby was having a baby. Alexis was certain that Kristina and Molly would be thrilled to learn that they were going to be aunts. Sam was concerned about her mother's reaction, but Alexis insisted that she was happy for her daughter. Sam had doubts, because Alexis was crying. Alexis explained that being a grandmother made her sound old, and that it was bit overwhelming, because it seemed as if she had just had her own babies, yet Sam was married, Kristina was in college, and Molly was eager to leave home. Sam carefully avoided using the term "grandmother," as she assured Alexis that Alexis would be great. "You are happy, right?" Alexis asked Sam. "Yes," Sam quietly said as she glanced at the newspaper article on Franco. Sam then confessed that the pregnancy had been a bit of a surprise. Alexis reminded Sam that things were different than the last time that Sam had been pregnant, and that Sam and Jason were free to live their lives, without having to worry about looking over their shoulders because of Franco. Alexis noticed Sam's strained smile, so Alexis wondered how Jason felt about the baby. Sam assured Alexis that Sam and Jason wanted their child more than anything. Alexis was relieved, so she urged Sam to allow herself to be happy, because being a mother was a wonderful experience. Alexis was eager to share the news with Kristina and Molly, but Sam asked Alexis not to say anything yet, because Sam and Jason wanted to make certain that everything was okay with the pregnancy first. Alexis agreed to keep quiet about the baby, but she continued to sense that something was bothering Sam. Alexis implored Sam to let it go, so that Sam could enjoy the pregnancy. Alexis promised Sam that it was the best time of Sam's life. Michael returned to his apartment, but jumped when Jason pushed his way in before Michael could close the door. Jason suggested that Michael should be scared, because the guy that Michael had insisted had attacked the dancers was dead, and Michael had been at the scene. Jason revealed that he had been in the alley, so Jason had heard everything that Dante and Michael had said. Michael assured Jason that Dante wouldn't say anything, but Jason warned Michael that the forensics team would comb the alley, and eventually trace the bullet to Michael's gun. Michael realized that Sam had told Jason about the gun, but Jason wondered what Michael had been thinking when Michael had decided to buy a gun. Michael explained that the police hadn't done anything to protect the dancers, because they had let Donofrio go. Jason was incredulous that Michael would take it upon himself to go after Donofrio. "Isn't that what you did to Franco?" Michael asked. Michael reminded Jason that Jason had made Franco pay for what Franco had done to Sam. Michael explained that he had merely wanted to protect Abby's friends, so he resented Jason acting as if Michael had killed Donofrio. "Did you?" Jason asked. Michael admitted that, since losing Abby, he'd been doing things to numb the pain that he shouldn't have been. Jason explained that he needed to know exactly what had happened, so that he could take care of things, while there was still time. Michael admitted that he had hoped to keep some of Abby's friends safe by stopping Donofrio. Jason wished that Michael had gone to Jason first, and then wondered where Michael had gotten the gun. Michael assured Jason that the gun was untraceable. "Did you kill Donofrio?" Jason demanded. Michael confessed that he had wanted to, but he hadn't done it. Jason was curious if Michael were willing to risk going back to Pentonville, because the reality of being in organized crime was that the police would be able to haul Michael off to jail whenever they wanted, regardless of whether Michael were guilty of a crime or not. Michael explained that he had gone to Sonny for help with Donofrio, but Sonny had insisted that Michael let Dante handle the investigation. Jason again wondered why Michael hadn't talked to Jason. Michael admitted that he had been furious with Jason because of the situation with Jax. Michael also reminded Jason that Jason had been busy dealing with Franco. Jason wanted to know where the gun was, so Michael revealed that he had ditched it, and that no one would be able to find it. Michael insisted that he hadn't killed Donofrio, so the gun couldn't tie Michael to the murder. Jason confessed that what concerned him was that Michael had wanted to kill Donofrio. "Yeah, I did want to," Michael conceded. Michael admitted that he'd been angry with everyone, especially God, for taking Abby. Jason apologized for not telling Michael about Jax, but Michael explained that it wasn't necessary, because he had realized that Jason hadn't done anything wrong. Michael also realized that no one was to blame for Abby's death, because "sometimes horrible things happen." Michael was ready to honor Abby by being responsible, and doing what she would have wanted Michael to do. After Jason left, Michael began to cry as he looked at his day planner, which showed that he'd had a date scheduled with Abby for the fifteenth. Jason returned to Sam's office. She wondered if he had talked to Michael, so Jason told her about what had happened to Donofrio. Jason assured her that Michael had denied killing the man. Jason was confident that Dante would keep Michael's name out of the investigation, and then admitted that Michael seemed to be in a better place. Sam revealed that Alexis had figured out that Sam was pregnant, so Sam had told her mother about the baby, but not the concerns about the baby's paternity. Jason promised Sam that, no matter what, he would still love her. 1/27 Sonny told Jason that the Corinthos organization had purchased the King Street Pier. Jason pointed out that the Zaccharas had wanted that property, but Sonny explained that he'd taken care of Johnny. "I hit him with something even better than a bullet," Sonny boasted. Sonny told Jason that Claudia had actually been Johnny's mother, not his sister and Anthony was his grandfather. Gino Soleito, Claudia's late husband, was Johnny's actual father. Sonny was convinced that the news would drive Johnny to murder Anthony. Spinelli proposed to Sam a way to get new clients, as Sam pointed out that they hadn't had any investigative work since the previous summer. Dvd #31B Later, Jason arrived because Robin had texted him. Patrick asked him why he'd kept Robin's secret. Jason replied that Robin had needed to tell Patrick about her medical condition in her own way. "Actually, Robin didn't tell me. Elizabeth did," Patrick clarified. Robin arrived, and Patrick left to see a patient. Robin delivered Jason's test results, which showed that his condition was worsening. Jason received a call and told Robin he had to leave. "If you leave right now," she cautioned, "you might be risking your life." Spinelli noticed that Sam had a baby gear catalogue on her desk and nudged her toward considering motherhood. Sam worried that the apple wouldn't fall from the tree, and since her tree had the Cassadines at it roots, she fretted. She changed the subject to Spinelli's apartment search, and he revealed that he was moving in with Maxie. Sam asked Spinelli if he might have been hoping to break Maxie and Matt up. As they chatted, Sam began to have severe cramps. 1/30 In the P.I. office, Sam doubled over with cramps, and Spinelli rushed to help. Sam convinced Spinelli that she was hungry so Spinelli rushed out to get food. While he was gone, Sam looked up cramping on the Internet and found out that it could indicate a miscarriage. She muttered that it would be a relief. When Spinelli returned with food and said he had gotten several dishes in case Sam had cravings, Sam said that she was no longer hungry. When Spinelli turned away to take a phone call from Maxie, Sam left the office. Jason went to GH to see Robin. She told him that his test results indicated that he had a swelling in the brain. She said that Jason's brain was pressing against his skull and might be depriving his brain of oxygen. Jason wanted to shrug it off, but Robin said that Jason had to think of more than himself. She said he had to think of how Sam would be affected. While Jason talked to Robin, Sam arrived to see Kelly. Elizabeth was nearby and heard Sam ask for Dr. Lee. Robin said that she would run more tests, and they would try to reduce the swelling with drugs. Robin said that Jason might have to have more surgery. Jason said that he would not submit to more surgery. Robin said that she would look at the blood work again. Robin left, and Jason noticed Sam descending the mezzanine stairs. Jason asked Sam if everything was okay with her. Sam explained that she had had some cramping, but that Kelly had assured her that she would be fine. Sam thought Jason was there because Spinelli had called him. Jason said he was there for other reasons. When Sam wanted to know what those reasons were, Jason said they should go home and talk. When they left, Elizabeth emerged from an alcove where she had been eavesdropping on the conversation. 2/1 When Jason arrived home, Sam wondered where he had been. Jason explained that he had gone for a motorcycle ride around the lake, and then suggested that he and Sam go to the cabin where they had spent their first night as husband and wife. Sam refused to be sidetracked, so she demanded to know why he had been at the hospital the previous day. Jason revealed that Robin had told him that he had some swelling on the brain that hadn't been present following his brain surgery. Sam wanted to know how serious it was, but Jason tried to downplay the situation by explaining that Robin and Patrick were monitoring things to see if the swelling would go down by itself. Sam was curious if Jason would need brain surgery, but Jason was reluctant to answer the question. Sam was frustrated, because she resented being kept in limbo. She explained that when she had gone to the hospital after experiencing signs of a miscarriage, a part of her had been prepared to lose the baby, because then things would have been definite. She realized that sounded horrible, but Jason assured her that he understood. However, she wondered what would happen if it had been their last chance to have a baby. Later, Jason suggested that they set aside the "what ifs" for the day, by doing something together. Sam was tempted, but she confessed that she was queasy and tired, because of the pregnancy. Sam admitted she was trying to stay focused on the thought that the baby was theirs. Jason realized that the waiting was difficult, but they didn't have a choice. Sam acknowledged that Jason was dealing with a lot, because he had his own health problems on top of the paternity test. Sam wondered what they would do if the baby wasn't Jason's, but Jason assured her that it didn't matter, because he loved her. He promised her that nothing would change. Sam was deeply touched, because she could tell that Jason meant it. Later, Sam flipped through some baby catalogs that Alexis had given to Sam. Jason suggested that she throw them away, because he had learned a lot from taking care of Michael. Jason didn't think that they would need baby care books, and the various gadgets that Sam had been looking at. Moments later, the phone rang. It was Kelly, informing Sam that the results of the paternity test were in, so Kelly could see them the following day. 2/3 An agitated Sam lamented the state she was in. She'd been having nightmares and was wondering what she would do if Franco turned out to be her baby's father. She wondered if she should terminate the pregnancy. Jason assured her that they'd take one step at a time. Sam received a phone call from Kelly, who had the test results. 2/6 Kelly went to the penthouse to give Sam and Jason the results of the paternity test. They were relieved to find out that Jason, not Franco, was the father of Sam's baby. Kelly told them that the baby was healthy, and she could even tell them the gender if they wanted to know. Sam said she was content just knowing that the child was Jason's. After Kelly was gone, both Sam and Jason were smiling and happier than they had been since before Franco had intervened on their honeymoon. Jason told Sam that she never had to think about that horrible night again. He said that he was glad to see her smile again. Sam said that she was glad that she could smile again. Sam thought that they ought to be reading or doing something to prepare to be parents. Jason said he just wanted to sit and hold her. Sam said it was amazing to think that in time they would be sitting on their terrace, staring at the stars and knowing that a whole world of possibilities was staring back at them. Jason held her close and smiled. 2/8 At the cabin that Jason had built, Jason and Sam talked about their baby. They both felt content and peaceful about the pregnancy, but Sam remained concerned about Jason's health problems. Jason assured Sam that everything was okay, but Sam argued that he had swelling on the brain. Jason insisted that Robin worried too much. Sam recalled hearing that happiness was good for one's health, so she agreed that perhaps everything would be fine. She then shifted gears to warn Jason that their lives were about to change dramatically, because of the baby. Sam wondered if Jason were ready for fatherhood, so Jason assured her that he was. Jason then turned the question on Sam; he was curious how she felt about the timing of the pregnancy. Sam confessed that she wasn't surprised, because they had spent most of their honeymoon making love. She wondered if perhaps the fertility necklace had helped them, but Jason insisted that they deserved all of the credit. Later, Sam admitted that things felt different from her last pregnancy, because she was married to a man whom she loved. Sam then began to talk about converting the pink bedroom to a nursery. Sam confessed that she was nervous about having a baby, because she had no idea how to change a diaper. Jason promised to help Sam. Sam smiled as Jason kissed his wife, and then fetched some wood. Sam wanted to stay in the cabin until the baby was born, but Jason warned her that people would notice that they were missing. However, Jason suggested that they spend the weekend in the cabin. Sam loved the idea, but she revealed that she was starving. Jason presented her with a bag of food that he had packed. Sam looked in the bag, but then a wave of nausea hit her, so she raced to the bathroom. A short time later, she returned, ready to dig into some salsa and chips, but another bout of nausea forced her back to the bathroom. 2/9 At the cabin, Jason wondered how Sam was feeling. "Relieved," Sam replied. She was thankful that the baby was Jason's. However, she wondered if Jason would have been able to raise Franco's child, if the paternity test had turned out differently. Jason didn't see the point in talking about it, and then shifted gears to assure her that he hadn't had any episodes of rage for a while. Sam was delighted, but she insisted that Jason had to follow up with Patrick and Robin, because Sam and the baby needed Jason to be healthy. Sam suddenly felt queasy, so she raced to the bathroom. Moments later, she returned to the living room, and then remarked that she didn't know why everyone referred to it as morning sickness, because the nausea lasted all day. Later, Sam and Jason arrived home, so Jason offered to make dinner. Sam admitted that she could get used to him spoiling her. She then sobered, because she realized that Franco had robbed them of the happiness that they were feeling in the weeks leading up to the paternity test. Jason reminded Sam that they didn't have to think about Franco anymore, and then kissed her.
They were unaware that a gift-wrapped present was perched outside on the balcony. After the kiss, Sam decided to change before she and Jason had dinner. Jason offered to light a fire, so he went to fetch the matches, while Sam went to the bedroom. Jason suddenly dropped to his knees as he was hit by a neurological episode. 2/10 Sam failed to notice that Jason was having another episode as she rambled about whether or not to go public with the news of her pregnancy. She worried Carly would go ballistic, but Jason assuaged her fears. As they attempted to go onto the back terrace, they noticed the door wouldn't open. Sam took a call from Alexis while Jason worked at getting the door open. Outside sat a gift-wrapped present. Monica stopped by to inquire about Jason's test results. She was checking in, because Robin was concerned. He said everything was fine, though Monica noted that he wouldn't share with her if something was wrong. She looked down and noticed a baby magazine on the sofa and assumed Sam was pregnant. She was thrilled, but Jason explained that he and Sam were trying to keep the news under wraps for a while. Jason let Monica know that he wanted her to be a part of the baby's life. Edward, too, he reluctantly added. "I'll call you after the first sonogram," Jason told her as he escorted her to the front door. "I'd like that," she said. After she was gone, Jason got the back door open and immediately noticed the present. He retrieved it and prepared to destroy it, but had an attack and passed out. Sam stopped by for a visit with her mom but didn't notice Molly was in the room. Sam mentioned the morning sickness, which caused Molly to erupt with excitement. Molly immediately called Kristina but got her voicemail. Molly gave Sam a list of names from great literature. Sam liked the name Holden, from Catcher in the Rye. Alexis assumed that, if Sam were to have a girl, Molly would suggest the name Desdemona. 2/13 At the penthouse, Sam found Jason passed out by the couch. She did not see the envelope from Franco that Jason had dropped on the floor. Sam was able to revive Jason. Jason said that he was okay, but Sam insisted that they go to the hospital. At GH, Sam told Patrick that she had found Jason collapsed on the floor. Patrick said that there was no obvious sign of head trauma. Patrick asked if there was anything Jason was not telling. Jason said he was fine. Patrick said Jason was not fine because Jason had experienced two blackouts in a short period of time. Sam wanted to know if Jason was getting worse. Patrick wanted to admit Jason to the hospital. He left to look at Jason's test results. While Patrick was gone, Jason told Sam that Robin had cleared him and believed that the swelling would go down on its own. When Sam asked what Jason remembered, he said that he might have been on the terrace but did not recall what had happened before he blacked out. Jason told Sam to stop worrying because the stress was not good for her. Sam said that she could not help her worry and begged Jason to help her get over it. Patrick returned and told Sam and Jason that Jason's condition was not improving, but was getting worse. Patrick said that the swelling had occurred since the last surgery. Jason got his back up and said that he did not want another surgery. Patrick concurred. Sam and Jason were shocked when Patrick announced that Jason's condition was inoperable. 2/14 In Jason's hospital room, Jason watched as Sam slept in a chair. Thoughts about finding the package that Franco had left on the balcony, and Sam's desperate cries for Jason to wake up after she had found him passed out on the living room floor, replayed in his mind. Sam suddenly woke up, and then noticed Jason staring at her. She immediately rushed to his side to ask if he were having an "episode." Jason explained that it wasn't like that, but Sam doubted that Jason would be able to tell when he had one. Jason continued to have flashbacks of finding the present on the balcony. Sam sensed that Jason was holding something back from her, so she wondered if it had to do with Franco. Jason remained silent, which confirmed Sam's suspicions. Sam became upset, but Jason insisted that Franco was dead, so he asked her to drop it. Sam resented that Jason was trying to shut her out; she pleaded with him to tell her if Franco had left something behind that might be a threat. Sam wanted Jason to trust her, and to trust that she would do everything to protect the baby. "There is something," Jason reluctantly admitted. He told Sam about the package that Franco had left on the balcony, which Jason suspected was a DVD. Sam realized that it was still in the apartment, so she decided to fetch it. Jason refused to let Sam leave. Their argument was cut short when Robin and Patrick entered the hospital room. Sam prayed that Robin and Patrick knew what was going on with Jason, and how to "fix it." The doctors explained that Jason's condition was "delicate," which concerned Sam, because they had made it sound as if it were a death sentence. Robin promised that she was working on a drug therapy to help Jason, but Robin needed Jason to remain in the hospital, so that they could continue to monitor Jason's condition. Jason wanted to make the most of the time that he had left, instead of staying in a hospital. "It's too soon to jump," Robin cryptically told Jason. Sam wondered what Robin was talking about. Robin explained that Jason had helped Robin through a difficult time, so Robin intended to return the favor. After Robin and Patrick left, Sam grabbed her coat with the intention of finding the package that Franco had left on the balcony. Jason made Sam promise that she wouldn't open it until she returned to the hospital. Sam agreed, and then left. A short time later, Patrick entered Jason's hospital room. Patrick was a little surprised to see that Jason had stayed in the hospital. Jason explained that he wanted to know what he was facing, so he expected Patrick to be honest, if Robin's treatment didn't work. Patrick promised to be truthful, but he urged Jason to remain calm, because the dopamine levels aggravated Jason's situation; according to Patrick, Jason's anger towards Franco was killing Jason. Robin spotted Carly as Carly exited the elevator, so she assured Carly that they were doing everything that they could "for him." "For who?" Carly asked. Robin realized that Carly didn't know about Jason's situation, so Robin quickly filled Carly in. Carly wanted to know if Jason would be okay, so Robin admitted that she didn't know, but they were running out of time. At the penthouse, Sam searched around for the package. She found it in the living room, picked it up, and then nervously looked around. 2/15 At the penthouse, Sam tore open the present that Franco had left behind. It was a DVD. She went to the laptop, inserted the DVD, and then looked at the screen. In the hospital's lab, Patrick assured Robin that Jason had not left the hospital. Robin feared that Jason sensed that his time was limited, so she was afraid that Jason might leave. Patrick and Robin discussed Jason's situation, and agreed that they would not give up. Robin explained that she would need Patrick to surgically implant the treatment, once she was able to find a cure for the brain swelling. Patrick was confident that Robin would succeed. Robin explained that she had narrowed it down to three viable possibilities. In Jason's hospital room, Carly confronted Jason about his health crisis. She blamed Sam for not giving Jason enough time to recover from the brain surgery, before dragging him halfway around the world for a honeymoon in Hawaii. Jason argued that his scans following surgery hadn't shown any indication of the brain swelling, and that Sam had been the one to rush him to the hospital after she had found him unconscious in the living room. Jason suffered another neurological episode during their argument, prompting Carly to wonder if he were okay. Jason quickly recovered, so he decided to go home to Sam, but Carly refused to let Jason leave until they had some answers. However, she was curious why Sam wasn't there.
Jason told Carly to leave Sam alone, because Sam was pregnant. Carly was shocked, but delighted for Jason. Carly hugged Jason, and then assured him that he would be the best father. Jason appreciated the compliment, but he insisted that Sam didn't need any additional stress, so he asked Carly not to pick a fight with her. "With who?" Sam asked, as she entered the hospital room. Sam handed the laptop to Jason, so Carly congratulated Sam on the pregnancy. Sam was surprised that Carly knew about the baby, so Carly reminded Sam that Carly was Jason's best friend. Sam suggested that perhaps Carly should have tried to keep Jason in bed, so Carly groused that perhaps Sam shouldn't have left Jason's side. Jason warned Carly to behave, so Carly explained that she had stopped Jason from leaving. Sam immediately relaxed, and then apologized. Moments later, Robin entered the room, and then asked to have a private word with Jason. After Sam and Carly left, Robin revealed that she had three leads, but all of them would involve minor surgery. Jason was not pleased, but he agreed to cooperate, because he realized that he didn't have a choice. Robin and Jason reminisced about a time on the bridge when they had discussed their futures. Robin insisted that Jason had too much to live for, so Jason told her about the baby. Robin was happy for Jason and Sam, so she assured him that she was confident that one of the three leads would work. Robin promised to return when she had good news, and then left. Jason sat on the bed, and then rubbed his forehead. Moments later, he opened the laptop, and inserted the DVD. In the hallway, Sam was curious how Carly had found out that Jason was sick. Carly explained that Robin had told her. Sam and Carly cleared the air, so that they could focus on helping Jason through his crisis. They agreed that they had faith in Robin finding a treatment to save Jason. Moments later, Sam returned to Jason's hospital room. In the lab, Robin was disappointed when her most promising lead failed to yield the results that she had hoped for. Patrick received a page, so he urged Robin to keep trying, and then left. Moments later, Carly stormed in, and then demanded to know how Robin intended to save Jason's life. In Jason's hospital room, Sam wondered what Robin had to say. Jason explained that Robin had some good leads, and then changed the subject by asking if Sam had watched the DVD. Sam admitted that she had been tempted to, but she had promised him that she wouldn't watch it alone. Sam joined Jason on the bed, and they watched the video. The video was of a baby in a hospital nursery, but neither Sam nor Jason knew what the meaning of the video was. 2/16 In the lab, Robin ordered Carly to leave, but Carly demanded to know how Robin intended to save Jason's life. According to Carly, Jason had too much to live for. Robin sarcastically pointed out that she wasn't in the lab, painting her nails, and then reminded Carly that Carly wasn't the only person who cared about Jason. Robin insisted that Carly was just getting in the way, but Carly refused to budge. Eventually, Robin threatened to call security on Carly, but Patrick entered the lab before Robin picked up the phone. Patrick wondered what was going on, so Robin explained that Carly thought that Robin should call someone else to help find a cure for Jason. Patrick explained to Carly that Robin was Jason's best chance. In Jason's hospital room, Sam confessed that she couldn't understand why Franco had sent the video of a baby in a hospital nursery. She wondered if perhaps Franco had known that she was pregnant. "We may soon find out," Jason replied. Sam suggested that they determine the identity of the baby, and then asked Jason to promise that they would stop playing into Franco's hands, once they watched the video in its entirety. Sam wanted Jason to focus on getting better. Jason turned on the DVD, and then continued to watch it. He noticed that the baby had a hospital bracelet on, so he paused the video to study the bracelet. The bracelet read, "Boy Moore. M, Susan Moore. NYC 1437." "That's me," Jason realized. Jason had never seen the footage. Sam thought that it seemed harmless enough, but Jason was curious why Franco would send it, and where Franco had obtained it. A short time later, Spinelli arrived. After Spinelli gave Jason some magazines, Jason and Sam decided to tell Spinelli about the baby. Spinelli was delighted, especially when Sam mentioned that Spinelli would be the baby's godfather. Spinelli was curious if that were the reason that they had called him, so Jason handed the DVD to Spinelli. Jason quickly filled Spinelli in on what was on the DVD. Sam added that they suspected that Franco had left it on the balcony, while Jason and Sam had been in Hawaii. Jason explained that they wanted to know where Franco had gotten the footage of Jason as an infant. Spinelli agreed to have his friends look into it, but Spinelli wanted to make certain that the information was simply for an answer, not because Franco might be alive. Sam stepped out of the room, so Jason explained to Spinelli that Jason didn't want Sam to worry. Spinelli was curious if Jason were certain that Franco had died. Jason refused to go into detail, but he assured Spinelli that Franco was dead. Spinelli wondered if Jason had set the fire, so Jason admitted that he hadn't. However, Jason confided that Franco had said something before dying. "Rosebud?" Spinelli asked. "You'll never know," Jason clarified. Jason insisted that they needed to figure out what Franco had meant, but Jason didn't want Spinelli to tell Sam. After Spinelli left, Sam entered the hospital room. Sam realized that Jason hadn't told Spinelli about the brain swelling, so Jason admitted that he wanted Spinelli to focus on finding out how Franco had obtained the video. Sam confessed that she agreed with Spinelli, that there wasn't much to be gained by finding out how Franco had gotten his hands on the video. Jason started to reply, but then clutched his head in pain. Sam immediately ran out of the room to fetch Patrick. Shortly afterwards, Patrick examined Jason. Jason assured Patrick that it had just been a brief headache, and that it had passed, but Sam argued that Jason had been in significant pain. Patrick warned Jason and Sam that the frequency of the painful headaches would increase, as the swelling progressed. Patrick promised that Robin was working on a treatment, but Sam wanted to know how much time Jason had. Patrick admitted that he didn't know. 2/17 While waiting for Dr. Lee, Sam prevented Jason from talking about the possibility he might die. "Now I have everything to live for," he promised. Sam had a severe cramp, but told Jason it wasn't a big deal. Monica stopped by, which prompted Sam to see someone about discharging Jason. After Sam left, Jason asked Monica for an update. The swelling on Jason's brain had worsened, she reported. Jason asked Monica to promise that she would be Sam and his baby's family. "I will be with that grandchild, just as long as Sam will let me," she vowed. Jason asked if Monica had home movies of him as a newborn. She explained that she had thousands but none of him as a newborn, because he'd been with Susan, his biological mother, then. Patrick went to search for Robin, but Sam intercepted him. She asked whether Jason could leave, and Patrick explained that another seizure could be detrimental. Patrick arrived at the lab and was overcome by the fumes. 2/20 Robin found Patrick in the lab, passed out from the gas. She dragged him outside the door and gave him CPR. Patrick started breathing and regained consciousness. He told Robin that he had knocked over something in the lab. She ran to the door and saw that Jason's drug protocol was okay. Patrick told Robin not to go in, but Robin rushed in to grab the vial. As she tried to exit, Robin knocked over a beaker and the lab door automatically locked before she could get out. Patrick started pounding on the door. Robin put Jason's protocol in the pass-through door and urged Patrick to take it and make sure that he administered it to Jason. Smoke started filling the lab. Robin begged Patrick to leave before the emergency doors closed and he was also trapped. Patrick refused to leave her. Alarms started going off. Robin told Patrick that he had to take care of Emma. She told him that she loved him and Emma more than anything and that she would always love him. Robin demanded that Patrick leave her. Patrick continued to refuse, but finally went through the security doors to call for help. Before he could get back to Robin, the emergency doors locked, and the lab exploded. Spinelli visited Jason in his hospital room. He told Jason that he had not yet found anything out about the DVD that Franco had sent to Jason. Jason said that was not the reason that he had asked Spinelli to visit. Jason said that he wanted to ask Spinelli for a favor. Jason told Spinelli that he might be dying. Jason said that he had been diagnosed with an inoperable cerebral edema, but that Robin was working on a drug protocol. However, there was no guarantee that it would work. Jason said that if the drug regimen did not work, then Jason wanted Spinelli to take care of Sam and Jason's baby. Spinelli asked if Jason had told Sam. Jason said that Sam knew but did not want to believe that the worst could happen. Jason wanted to know if Spinelli could find the missing twenty million dollars that Spinelli had placed, then lost, in an offshore account because he wanted to make sure that Sam and the baby had enough money. Spinelli said he could. Jason said that the money did not matter as much as Spinelli's friendship. Jason asked Spinelli to be as good a friend to Sam and his baby as Spinelli had been to Jason. Spinelli said that he would. Jason told Spinelli that Sam would not be alone because she would have Alexis, Kristina, and Molly, but he worried that Sam would be nervous about being a good mother. Jason asked Spinelli to help Sam because Spinelli was the smartest and kindest person he had ever known. Spinelli said that Jason should be there for Sam and the baby. Jason agreed that he wanted to be, but said that he had taken a lot of chances in life and sooner or later, things had a way of catching up. Spinelli started babbling and then apologized. Jason said it was okay. Spinelli said that he preferred to believe that Robin would find a cure and Jason would survive. Jason replied that he wanted that, as well, but if it did not happen, then he wanted the chance to say goodbye and thank Spinelli for everything he had done for Jason. Spinelli said he was the one who should be grateful to Jason for taking him under his wing. Spinelli added that all his accomplishments had been with Jason's help. Spinelli said that Jason was stoic and seemed better able to face his own death than his friends were capable of doing. Jason replied that he needed one more favor. He asked Spinelli to continue working on the DVD and give the results to Jason, not Sam. Spinelli agreed that he would. Spinelli said that he appreciated Jason's confidence in him, but like Sam, he preferred to put his faith in Robin and believe that she would find a cure. 2/21 In Jason's hospital room, Jason and Sam felt a tremor that rocked the hospital. Jason went to the door, intent on investigating the odd occurrence, but Sam stopped him. Sam decided to find out what had happened.
Spinelli entered the room as Sam left. Jason was curious if Spinelli had learned anything new about the video footage that Franco had left on the penthouse balcony, so Spinelli revealed that the video had been authentic, and that it appeared to have been recorded by Jason's deceased birth mother, Susan Moore. Later, Sam approached Anna to ask if Anna knew anything about the tremor that had shaken the hospital. Anna admitted that she was more concerned about Robin, because Robin had gone to the lab to look for Patrick, but she had not returned. Patrick pounded on the lab's locked doors, as Robin pleaded with Patrick to flee to safety. She assured him that he and Emma were in her heart, and then promised to always be with him. Patrick tearfully vowed to return with help, and then ran to the door. Inside the lab, Robin collapsed as a drop of chemical hit the floor and then mixed with the fumes that had filled the lab. In the hallway, Patrick was thrown back as an explosion ripped through the lab. Patrick ran back to the lab, but smoke filled the room, so he was unable to see inside. Patrick called 911 to report the blast, and to beg them to find a way to open the lab's sealed doors. The operator was unable to open the doors, so Patrick ripped an intravenous pole off of a wheelchair, and then tried to pry the doors open, but they remained firmly closed. Eventually, the fire department arrived. One of the firefighters had to hold Patrick back, while the rest of the firemen entered the lab. Sam walked up, as Patrick pretended to cooperate long enough to break free, and then race to the lab. A firefighter blocked Patrick from entering the lab, and then explained that no one could have survived the fire. Patrick's eyes filled with tears of denial, so the fireman added, "She's gone," and then handed Robin's wedding ring to Patrick. Patrick entered the lab, and then fell to his knees, sobbing with grief, as he saw Robin's body draped with a yellow tarp. Sam was in a semi-state of shock when she entered Jason's hospital room. Jason was immediately concerned, so Sam started to tell him what had happened in the lab. However, she couldn't find the words. 2/22 In Jason's hospital room, Sam explained to Jason that there had been a gas leak in the lab, where Robin had been working, which had led to an explosion. Sam assured Jason that the fire had been contained, and that Robin was fine. Jason realized that the protocol that Robin had been working on might have been lost, so he wanted to check with Robin to see if it were okay for him to leave the hospital. Sam insisted that Robin would have told them if there had been any news about the protocol, so she urged Jason to remain in the room, but Jason was determined to talk to Robin. Sam offered to find Robin, if Jason promised to stay put in the room, and rest. In the hallway, Sam took a moment to collect herself. Monica approached Sam, and then admitted that she had just learned about the tragedy in the lab. Sam revealed that she hadn't told Jason about Robin's death, because Jason needed to remain calm. Sam feared that Robin's death would kill Jason. Monica agreed that it had been the right decision; however, she warned Sam that Robin's death meant that Jason would likely not recover, because Robin hadn't been able to find a cure before the explosion. Sam needed some time to think things over, so she asked Monica to stay with Jason. 2/23 At the nurses' station, Sam spotted the vial in Patrick's hand, which had Jason's name printed on it. She wondered if it were the drug protocol that Robin had been working on to save Jason's life. "This is it," Patrick confirmed. Sam wondered if it would work, but Patrick told her that it didn't matter. "Robin died working on this, and there's no way in hell I'm going to let him have it," Patrick vowed. Sam was stunned. Sam realized that Patrick was going through a difficult time. Patrick bristled at her choice of words; he explained that difficult was losing a job or flunking out of medical school, not telling his daughter that her mother had died. Sam tearfully reminded Patrick that the medication was Jason's only chance for survival, but Patrick was unmoved. He informed Sam that he didn't care about Jason, but Sam argued that Robin would want Patrick to save Jason. Sam realized that Patrick was hurting, but she reminded him that Jason was getting worse, and that Patrick was the only person who could save her husband. Patrick argued that it was Jason's fault that Robin was dead, because she had run into the lab to fetch the vial of medicine. Sam was certain that Patrick didn't really see things like that, but Patrick assured her that he did. Patrick started to leave, but Sam grabbed his arm, and then pleaded with Patrick to reconsider. She insisted that Robin would want him to save Jason, and then added that Robin would have risked her life for any other patient, not just Jason. Patrick resented Sam talking about Robin, as if Sam had known Robin well enough to know what Robin had thought. Sam immediately apologized, and then admitted that no child should have to grow up without a parent, like Emma would. "Including mine," Sam added. "How dare you play that card?" Patrick growled. Sam was unapologetic, as she pointed out that her child would grow up without its father. Sam appreciated that Patrick might not want to do the surgery, so she begged him to give the medicine to another doctor to implant. Patrick informed Sam that only he could successfully perform the operation. Patrick wondered why he should operate on a man who would continue to risk his life. Patrick reminded Sam that Jason hadn't bothered to change for Jake, or for her, so it was doubtful that Jason would change for Sam's baby. Sam insisted that Jason deserved to be a father, but Patrick didn't agree. Sam begged Patrick to change his mind, and then pleaded with him not to put her through the same kind of grief that he was going through. Sam implored Patrick not to take his pain out on Jason, because it wasn't what Robin would have wanted. Patrick argued that Robin would have wanted to live, and to watch Emma grow up. Sam was curious how Patrick had gotten the medicine. Patrick was reluctant to answer, but Sam already knew the answer, because it was clear that Robin had given Patrick the vial before she had died. Sam insisted that it meant that Robin had wanted Jason to live, so Patrick needed to honor that. Patrick made it clear that he didn't have to do anything. Sam was shocked. "What did you just say?" she asked. "No," Patrick replied. Sam warned Patrick that Jason would die if Patrick didn't operate. "Good," Patrick told her. Sam reminded Patrick that he was a doctor, so he couldn't just let someone die. Patrick pointed out that he had just lost his wife, but Sam argued that it didn't give Patrick the right to ruin Sam's life. She promised him that it wouldn't make him feel better, and then began to grovel. Anna walked up, and then asked what was going on. Sam was confident that Patrick would do the right thing, because he was a good man. She offered Anna her condolences, and then left. Anna revealed that she hadn't been able to reach Robert, but she had told Mac. "You told him that Robin is dead?" Patrick coldly asked. "Don't say it like that," Anna replied. "It's true, isn't it? In my mind, so is Jason," Patrick said. 2/24 Anna tried to reason with Patrick, who blamed Jason for Robin's death. Patrick wouldn't save Jason's life, because Jason was a hit man; Patrick believed he'd actually be saving lives by letting Jason die. "Robin would never forgive you," Anna admonished. Patrick wondered how he would tell Emma that her mommy was dead. Anna left to call Robert. Michael saw Sam in the hospital lobby and asked how Jason was taking the news of Robin's death. Sam told him Jason didn't know and warned that he couldn't find out; a shock that big could kill him. Michael said he hadn't realized how precarious Jason's health was. Sam told Michael that Patrick was the only one qualified to do the procedure that would reduce the swelling on Jason's brain, but Patrick would not perform the procedure, because Robin had died trying to save Jason. Sam inadvertently disclosed that she was pregnant. Michael told Sam that he had to visit Sonny, as he'd been shot earlier in the evening. Sam insisted that Michael not tell Jason that Robin was dead. As Michael walked away, Patrick emerged from the elevator. His and Sam's eyes met, as he scowled in her direction. He agreed to do the procedure, to honor Robin's last act. 2/27 Patrick finally agreed to do the procedure on Jason. Sam was tearful and grateful. Patrick said he was only doing it for Robin. Sam asked Patrick not to tell Jason about Robin for fear that it would kill Jason. Patrick got angry and said that Robin was dead because of Jason. He questioned Sam's right to ask him to protect Jason's feelings. In his room, Jason had a conversation with ghostly Robin. When he said he was glad that Robin was there, Robin asked, "Where else would I be?" Jason told her that Sam had told him about the explosion. Robin said that she was not feeling any pain and that soon Jason would not be feeling any pain either. Monica, who was sitting by Jason's bed, woke him and said that Jason had been talking in his sleep. Patrick strolled into Jason's room and said that he had something to tell Jason about Robin. When Jason inquired, Patrick said that Robin was gone. Sam jumped in and said that Robin had gone home because she had been working hard and was tired. Jason said that Robin was an amazing friend. Patrick responded that he hoped Jason appreciated everything that Robin had given up for him. Jason said that he did. Patrick told Jason that if Jason really wanted to repay Robin, he should make his life worth saving. Patrick said that the procedure would begin in an hour and that a nurse would be in to prep Jason and then left abruptly. As the nurse prepped Jason, Monica and Sam talked in the hall. Monica said that perhaps another surgeon should do the procedure. Sam said that Patrick had pulled Jason through before and would do it again. Monica acquiesced. Monica told Sam that Jason had been talking in his sleep. She said that all Jason seemed to want was to spend time with Sam and their baby. A nurse emerged from Jason's room and told Monica and Sam that Jason was ready. Monica told Sam to spend a little time with Jason before the surgery. As Sam entered Jason's room, she heard him leaving a message for Robin. Jason thanked Robin for all that she had done for him and told her that he would see her on the other side. As Jason was being wheeled to OR, Jason told Sam that he loved her and Sam told Jason that she loved him. Sam thanked Patrick, who told Sam not to thank him yet. Sam followed Jason. Patrick watched and touched his wedding ring. Robin appeared beside him and touched the hand that was touching the ring. Patrick said, "Please forgive me," and walked away. Robin's imaged faded from view as a nurse walked by the place where Robin had been standing. 2/28 In the operating room, Jason asked Patrick to thank Robin for all she had done, before succumbing to the anesthesia. Patrick looked up, to see Robin standing across the room, watching him. Patrick began to operate, but then hesitated. Robin asked him what he was doing, so Patrick admitted that he was reluctant to save Jason's life. Robin was confident that Patrick didn't want to let Jason die, but Patrick wondered why Jason should live when she hadn't. Jason's vital signs plummeted. Robin urged Patrick not to tank the operation on purpose, but Patrick argued that no one would ever suspect that he had done it. Robin insisted that Patrick couldn't leave Jason a "vegetable," and that it wasn't Patrick's place to play God. Patrick cried that he didn't know what to do without her, so Robin reminded him to focus on being a father to their daughter, Emma. Robin begged Patrick not to abandon Emma, because she didn't deserve to lose both of her parents. Robin claimed that Patrick was better than that, but Patrick confessed that hurting Jason was the only thing that he could do. Robin argued that Patrick wouldn't be the man that she had fallen in love with if he hurt Jason intentionally. Patrick focused on the operation. The operation appeared to go well, until Jason's vital signs once again dropped. Sonny spotted Sam in the waiting area, so he asked her how Jason was doing. Sam revealed that Patrick was operating on Jason's brain, and then confessed that she hadn't told Jason about Robin's death. Sonny seemed a little surprised, so Sam was curious what Jason had told Sonny about the seizures. Sonny explained that Jason had given him the impression that the seizures had been mild, and nothing to be concerned about. Sam wasn't surprised that Jason had downplayed the situation, so she explained to Sonny that Jason's life was on the line. Sam revealed that she had thought that the last brain surgery had been the answer to what had been ailing Jason, but then Jason had started having headaches in Hawaii. She blamed Franco, because Patrick had explained that the seizures were triggered by intense emotions, and anxieties. Sonny reminded Sam that Franco was dead, so he was confident that Jason would get through the crisis. Sam confided that she was concerned about Patrick's state of mind, because Patrick had lost his wife, and he hated Jason. Sonny recalled how deeply he had regretted going to Robin's house, while on the hunt for Jax, and then firing a gun. He confessed that things hadn't been the same between him and Robin after that night, even though Robin had told him that she had forgiven him. Sonny had decided to give Robin some space, because he had thought that there would be time to work it out, but he had been wrong. Sonny revealed that he had met Robin while Robin had been in high school. He became choked up, as he talked about how Robin and Stone had loved each other. According to Sonny, it had been a sweet first love, until Stone had died. Sonny admitted that he would never forget the look on Robin's face right after Stone had died. Sonny recalled that Robin had been crying, yet at peace, as if Robin had known how to let go. Sam quietly suggested that perhaps Robin had been prepared for the inevitable. Sonny confided that Robin had made accepting Stone's death easier, and then admitted that he had loved Robin like a sister. Sonny revealed that the light had gone out of Robin's eyes after Stone had died, and that it had returned when Robin had met Jason. Sonny explained that Robin had started to see a future for herself again, but Sam wondered why Sonny would let Jason get into the business if Jason had meant that much to Robin. Sonny insisted that it had been Jason's decision, and that he hadn't been able to talk Jason out of it. Sonny admitted that, in time, he, Robin, and Jason had become their own little family. He reminisced about a special Christmas that the three of them had shared, when Sonny had given Robin a little five-dollar Christmas tree. Sonny's eyes welled up with tears, as he realized that he would never see Robin's beautiful smile again. Sam revealed that Patrick had not wanted to operate on Jason at first, but then she had resorted to begging, and had even used her pregnancy, in an attempt to sway Patrick. Sonny was stunned by the news that Sam was pregnant, so he quickly congratulated her. Sonny credited Robin with making him believe in himself, and striving to be a better man, so he was certain that Patrick wouldn't let Robin down, because Robin had had a similar influence on Patrick. Shortly after Sonny left, Sam spotted Patrick exit the elevator. Patrick confirmed that the operation was over, so Sam asked him if Jason were okay. 2/29 In the waiting area, Sam confessed that she knew how difficult things had been for Patrick, but Patrick wasn't interested in what Sam had to say. He insisted that she had no way of understanding his grief, so he didn't want to hear her talk about it. Sam quickly apologized, but Patrick wasn't satisfied. He informed her that he was in hell alone, until he had to tell his daughter about Robin's death, and then Emma would join him. Sam decided to change the subject by asking if Jason had survived the surgery. "I know you want me to say yes, but I can't," Patrick replied. Sam became alarmed, so she demanded to know what had happened. Patrick explained that he had done all that he could for Jason, so the surgery had been a success; however, they wouldn't know the results of the serum until Jason woke up. Sam started to thank Patrick, but he made it clear that he had done it for Robin, not Sam and Jason. Patrick believed that it would have been a favor to society by allowing Jason to die on the operating table. However, Robin was the one in the morgue, while Jason was resting in recovery. "You happy?" Patrick wondered. Sam assured Patrick that she was devastated by Robin's death, because Robin had been an amazing woman. Patrick confessed that he couldn't imagine talking about Robin in the past tense, especially when Jason was alive. Sam promised Patrick that Jason would always love Robin, and never forget what she had done for him. Patrick told Sam to go see Jason, so she left. Moments later, Patrick slid down the wall as tears filled his eyes.
3/2 Monica updated Sam on Jason's condition. All tests showed that the procedure had worked, but Monica was still concerned. Sam wondered if Patrick might have botched the surgery. Monica thought that Patrick wouldn't have, on purpose, but that his emotional state at the time might have compromised his abilities. Monica admonished that Jason had to be kept calm until he'd had a chance to recover. Carly arrived to see Jason, but Sam told her to leave. Sam said that she'd not let Carly heap her problems on Jason and risk his life. Carly said that she needed to support him, because Jason would need his friends to deal with Robin's death. Sam let Carly know that Jason hadn't been told Robin had been killed. Carly threatened to tell Jason as soon as he regained consciousness, and Sam promised to have Carly barred from seeing him. "You can put security anywhere you want, but I will make sure Jason gets what he needs," Carly spouted before she stormed away. Carly beseeched Epiphany to overrule Sam, but Epiphany would not be swayed. Carly pointed to all the money she'd raised for the hospital, but Epiphany threatened to ban her from the entire hospital. Sonny happened by and asked what was going on, and Carly explained the situation. Sonny caught himself as he began to suggest they ask Robin for an update. Carly gave Sonny a big hug. 3/14 In Jason's hospital room, Jason opened his eyes, and then saw Sam sleeping in a chair. He called out to her, so she immediately sat up. Jason wondered if the baby were okay, so Sam assured him that everything was fine. She then joined him on the bed. Jason was curious how long it had been since the operation. Sam revealed that it had been a few days, prompting Jason to wonder if the drug had worked. Sam smiled, as she explained that Jason was expected to make a full recovery. Jason was eager to thank Robin, so Sam claimed that she didn't know where Robin was. Jason decided to check with the nurses, so he got up. Sam was desperate to keep Jason from leaving the room, so she told Jason that she had suddenly recalled that Robin had the day off. Sam continued to lie to Jason when he asked her for a cell phone, by making an excuse about why she couldn't give him one. A short time later, Spinelli stopped by to visit Jason. Jason mentioned Robin, so Spinelli commented, "She was the most brilliant, dedicated, and talented doctor." "What do you mean, 'she was'?" Jason asked. Spinelli quickly realized that Jason was unaware of what had happened to Robin, so he covered his slip by explaining that he had misspoken. Jason insisted that he wanted to talk to Robin, to thank her for saving his life, but Sam wanted Jason to rest. Jason assured her that he felt fine, so Sam persuaded Jason to stay in bed, while she went to fetch Patrick. Spinelli followed Sam to the hallway, where she explained that she hadn't told Jason about Robin's death, because she worried that Jason might suffer a setback. Sam wanted to wait until Patrick had assured her that Jason was okay, but Spinelli warned Sam that Jason would want to attend Robin's funeral. Sam argued that it was too soon for Jason to receive such devastating news. She feared that Jason would suffer a relapse if he pushed himself too hard. Spinelli gently reminded Sam that it was Jason's decision to make, not hers, but Sam refused to jeopardize Jason's recovery. Spinelli suggested that the longer she kept the truth from Jason, the more betrayed Jason would feel. Sam explained that Jason would feel guilty, and partially responsible for Robin's death, so she intended to keep the news from Jason until she was certain that Jason was strong enough to handle it. Sam added that Jason hadn't been able to be a father to Jake, and that she didn't want her child to grow up without a father. She threatened to post guards at Jason's door to keep everyone, including Carly, away from Jason. Spinelli realized that Carly thought that Jason should know that Robin had died, but Sam made it clear that she didn't care what Carly thought. Sam insisted that Jason was her husband, so it was Sam's decision to make. Spinelli assured Sam that he would respect her decision. Sam relaxed, and then asked how Maxie was holding up. Spinelli admitted that Maxie was trying to bury herself in her work, and had refused all attempts to console her. However, Spinelli was determined to break through Maxie's resistance, and provide her with the solace that she needed. Later, Jason tried to leave his hospital room, but Sam blocked Jason's exit. She explained that she was terrified that he would relapse, so Jason asked her to trust that he wanted a life with her and their baby. 3/15 At the nurses' station, Monica wondered why Epiphany wasn't at Robin's funeral. Epiphany explained that she had considered going, but then had realized that the best way to honor Robin was to take care of the patients. Monica confessed that she had felt the same way, and then admitted that she had also wanted to be close to Jason. Epiphany revealed that Jason was awake. Monica smiled, because she had already heard the good news. Epiphany then confided that Carly had been trying to sneak into Jason's room, so Epiphany was determined to honor Sam's wishes to keep Carly away from Jason. Monica feared that Carly would just be more inclined to get to Jason; however, Monica agreed to do her part to keep Carly from succeeding. Epiphany and Monica were unaware that Carly lurked nearby, eavesdropping on their conversation. A short time later, Carly smiled wickedly, as she approached an orderly in the hallway. Carly turned on the charm, as she flirted with the orderly to get him to let her into the supply closet. Afterwards, the orderly felt guilty, so he decided to alert Epiphany. Epiphany was livid. Jason was determined to find Robin, so that he could thank her for saving his life. Sam blurted out that Jason couldn't see Robin, because Robin was gone. Jason was curious where Robin was, so Sam told him that she didn't know, but she was certain that Robin wasn't at home. Jason was frustrated, but Sam insisted that Jason wasn't strong enough to leave the hospital. Jason argued that he felt fine, but Sam refused to let him leave until a doctor had cleared him. Moments later, Alexis and Molly arrived to visit Jason and Sam. Jason immediately asked to use Alexis' cell phone, so Alexis handed it to him. Jason called Robin, but reached her voicemail. He left a message, thanking Robin for everything that she had done, and then promised to get in touch with her as soon as possible. Jason handed the cell phone back to Alexis, and then announced that he intended to go home to fetch his phone. Sam turned to her mother for help, so Alexis advised Jason to wait until the doctors had a chance to examine him. Jason wanted to see Patrick, but Sam explained that Patrick was not on duty. Jason was determined to find another doctor, so Sam offered to go to the nurses' station to see if one was available. Alexis followed Sam out of the room, leaving Molly behind to distract Jason with suggestions for baby names. Molly also promised to babysit Sam and Jason's baby. In the hallway, Sam worried that Molly might accidentally let it slip that Robin had died, but Alexis was confident that Molly appreciated that Sam was concerned about Jason's recovery. Sam was relieved that someone finally understood her reasons for not telling Jason about Robin's death. Sam confessed that she was tired of defending her decision. Alexis assured Sam that it was clear that Sam had Jason's best interests at heart. Sam promised that she intended to tell Jason about Robin, as soon as Sam was certain that Jason was out of danger. A short time later, Alexis returned to fetch Molly. Before Alexis left, she asked Jason to stop trying to leave, because Sam had been under enough stress, worrying about him. Jason agreed to wait for a doctor to okay his release from the hospital. Alexis assured Jason that everything that Sam had done had been out of love for Jason. Monica spotted Sam as Sam passed the nurses' station. Monica revealed that she had spoken to Dr. Morucci. According to Monica, Dr. Morucci had assured her that Jason was on the road to recovery, and strong enough to hear about Robin's death. Sam immediately argued that Dr. Morucci was not familiar with the case, but Monica explained that Dr. Morucci had reviewed all of the test results, and the case file. Sam wasn't satisfied, so she begged Monica to keep quiet about Robin until Patrick could examine Jason. Sam explained that she feared that Jason would try to leave the hospital to attend the funeral if he were told of Robin's passing. Sam refused to risk compromising Jason's health, so she wanted Monica to respect her wishes. Monica accompanied Sam back to Jason's hospital room. Monica happily greeted her son, and then assured him that Dr. Morucci had been encouraged by the test results. Jason wondered if it were okay for him to leave the hospital, but Monica advised Jason against it, until Patrick cleared Jason. Monica left, with promises to track down Patrick, so Sam assured Jason that he would just have to wait one more day, and then they'd have the rest of their lives together. Later, Sam and Jason were snuggled together in his hospital bed when Epiphany knocked on the door, and then poked her head inside to ask to have a private word with Sam. Sam followed Epiphany to the nurses' station, where Epiphany revealed that Carly had managed to access the supply closet. Sam was furious. Meanwhile, Carly, dressed as a janitor, slipped into Jason's hospital room. Jason was stunned to see her, and wondered why she was dressed as a janitor. Carly was relieved that Jason was awake, and then confessed that it had been the only way that she had been able to get to him. Jason seemed confused, so Carly clarified, "This can't wait." 3/16 Sam worked with Epiphany to keep Carly out of Jason's room. Sam knew they couldn't turn their backs on Carly, so Sam went looking for her. In the locker room, as Ewen stepped out of the shower, Sam barged in, demanding that Carly show herself. Ewen, not knowing she was referring to Carly, complied and he dropped his towel. After Ewen covered up, Sam explained her actions. She tried not to stare as Ewen dressed. He asked why Jason had such a high tolerance for Carly's shenanigans, and Sam said that it didn't matter at that moment; Carly's actions could kill Jason. Sam admitted she'd kept Robin's death from Jason. Carly, dressed as a janitor, sneaked into Jason's room. He asked her why she'd felt the need to go undercover. Carly explained that Sam had banned her, but Jason asked Carly to go easy on Sam. He also sensed that Carly was keeping something from him. They argued about Sam having banned Carly, but Carly said that she had to tell Jason something important. Sam had been lying to Jason for days, she announced. Carly began to cry as she told Jason that Robin had died. 3/19 At General Hospital, Carly told Jason that Robin had perished in the lab explosion. Jason said that he had heard the explosion, but his head had started hurting, and Sam had told him that Robin was okay and that when Patrick had treated him, Patrick had merely said that Robin was gone. Jason wanted to know why he had not been told about Robin. Carly said it was because Sam would not let her tell. Jason wondered why Patrick had done the procedure on him. Carly said that Patrick had done it for Robin because Robin had gone back into the lab to get the medicine for Jason. Carly said that Robin had gone back for the drug because she was a doctor, and that meant something to her. Carly said that Jason was Robin's friend and that meant even more to Robin. Carly told Jason not to blame himself. She said that Robin was Jason's friend, and he needed to find a way to honor that. Jason lamented that he had not had a chance to say goodbye. When he asked about the funeral, Carly told him that the service was being held that day. Jason left the hospital. When Sam returned to Jason's room, she found Carly waiting and Jason gone. When Sam asked what Carly had done, Carly said that she had told Jason the truth about Robin and he had gone to Robin's funeral. Sam rushed out. Epiphany confronted Carly and asked if Carly was proud of herself. Carly said that telling Jason about Robin was what she'd had to do. She said that she wished that Sam had chosen differently, and she had to wonder if Jason would ever forgive Sam for keeping the truth from him. Jason arrived at the church after the funeral was over and everyone was gone. He found a printed handout about Robin on the floor. Sam followed him in, and he confronted her about lying to him. Jason asked why Sam had not told him. Sam said that she had been waiting for the right time. Jason asked why she hadn't chosen all the times he had asked to see Robin or after the explosion when Sam had known that Robin was dead. Jason wanted to know why Sam had kept lying to him. Sam said that Jason had been dying, and she had been told to keep him calm. Sam told Jason that if he had died, also, then Robin's death would have been for nothing. Sam said that she wanted to make sure that Robin's sacrifice had been worth it. Jason said that it was not. Sam responded that Robin had wanted Jason to be a father and to be part of his child's life. Jason said that Robin had people to live for as well. Sam said that she had been scared and afraid of losing Jason and that she did not want their baby to grow up without knowing Jason's love. Sam said that she had made the only choice she could. Jason told Sam that it had not been her choice to make. Sam asked if he was angry because she had lied. Jason said that he was angry because she had kept lying and that she had caused Monica, Molly, Alexis, and the hospital staff to lie to him as well. Jason said that Carly was the only one who had told him the truth because he needed to know the truth. Sam said that was because Carly did not care if Jason died; she only cared to make the point that Carly knew Jason better that Sam. Jason angrily responded that maybe Carly did know him better. 3/20 At the church, Jason was curious if the doctors had advised Sam to continue to lie to him about Robin after the surgery. Sam reminded Jason that Patrick had warned them that it was best for Jason to stay calm, but Jason pointed out that it wasn't what he had asked her. Sam confessed that the initial results had indicated that Jason was improving, but she was reluctant to risk his health by telling Jason that Robin had died. Sam tearfully explained that Jason had been close to death prior to the surgery, and that Robin had already been gone, so Sam had refused to take a chance with Jason's life after the surgery, because she had known that he would try to go to the funeral. Jason was stunned that Sam had kept quiet to keep him from attending Robin's funeral. Sam reminded Jason that he had only woken up from the life-saving brain surgery earlier that morning. She insisted that he shouldn't have left the hospital, because he still had to undergo tests to make certain that everything was okay. Jason refused to return to the hospital, so he insisted that she drop it. Sam suggested that they go home, but Jason made it clear that he didn't want to do that either. He insisted that lying to him for his own safety didn't make things okay, and then announced that he was going somewhere to say goodbye to Robin. He warned Sam not to follow him, and then left. Later, Sam sat in one of the pews, as she tearfully stared at a picture of Robin. "Don't look at me like that," she told Robin's smiling portrait. Sam explained that she had been trying to protect Jason, and that she had wanted to make certain that their baby knew its father. Sam was startled when someone gently put a hand on her shoulder to offer her comfort. Sam turned around and saw John McBain standing behind her. "I know you," Sam said. John sat down in the pew behind Sam, and then admitted that he didn't recall ever meeting her. Sam insisted that she recognized him from somewhere; it was something about his eyes. John suggested that perhaps he reminded her of someone. "That's not it," Sam replied. She admitted that she was having "the weirdest déjà vu," so John decided to introduce himself. Sam didn't recognize the name, but she was certain that she knew him. John revealed that he had been in the newspaper recently, so perhaps she had seen his picture. "Yeah, maybe," Sam conceded. John wondered if she were okay. "No, I think I just lost my husband," Sam quietly confessed. Sam was curious if he thought it were okay to lie to someone to save their life, or to spare them pain. John admitted that he was the wrong guy to ask. Sam confided that she had lied to her husband to protect her husband and their child. John confessed that it had a familiar ring to it, prompting Sam to realize that his wife had lied to him. John clarified that she hadn't been his wife at the time, but the lie had torn him up. "It was like a stake to the heart," John added. Jason stood on the bridge, as he confessed to Robin that he had never seen the point of wishing for things, because he believed that whatever happened, happened. However, he wished that he didn't have to say goodbye to her. Moments later, Jason heard footsteps. He looked up in time to see Elizabeth approaching. Elizabeth was surprised to see Jason out of the hospital. Jason explained that he had tried to make it to Robin's funeral, but he had been too late. Elizabeth realized that he was there to say goodbye to Robin. He wondered if she thought that Emma would remember Robin. Elizabeth assured Jason that they would make sure to talk about Robin, and show her pictures, to remind Emma of Robin. Jason argued that it wouldn't be the same, because Emma would never know how smart Robin had been, how little things had made Robin smile, and how hard Robin had tried to do the right thing. "And now I've lost her. I've lost her forever," Jason tearfully added. Jason confessed that Robin had said goodbye to him on the bridge before she had gone to Paris for the first time. Elizabeth sensed that Jason was very upset, so she offered to leave and to call Sam. Jason was curious if Sam had asked Elizabeth not to tell him about Robin. Elizabeth explained that Sam hadn't wanted anyone to tell Jason about Robin's death, because Sam had feared that Jason wasn't strong enough. Jason wondered if Elizabeth would have lied to him about it. "I don't know," Elizabeth admitted, and then explained that she had stayed away from him, so that she wouldn't have to make that choice. Jason revealed that Sam had persuaded Monica, Alexis, Molly, and even Spinelli to lie to him. Elizabeth assured Jason that Sam had only been trying to protect him. Jason couldn't hide his fury. He resented that Sam had decided what everyone should say to him. Jason was also angry that Sam had decided that he couldn't handle the news regarding Robin, so he wondered how to forgive Sam. 3/21 At the church, John McBain advised Sam to give Jason some time. John explained that he had been lost for a while, but then had gotten past the pain of being lied to. He revealed that he and his wife, Natalie, were raising their son, Liam, so everything had worked out. Sam was surprised that he had a son, so John showed her a picture of Liam. Afterwards, John assured her that one lie didn't have to ruin everything. "Oh, really? You don't know Jason Morgan," Sam replied. Sam explained that things were always black or white for Jason. John regretted that he couldn't be of more help to her, so he offered to call someone to pick her up. Sam assured him that she was fine, and then confessed that she didn't feel like she was talking to a stranger. "Maybe we knew each other a long time ago," John suggested. Sam smiled, and then changed the subject by asking if he had known Robin. John revealed that he hadn't; he had been looking for Sonny Corinthos. John admitted that he had some unfinished business with Sonny. Sam immediately became suspicious, so she demanded to know who John really was, because she knew what kind of men Sonny tended to have unfinished business with. John was vague, but Sam remained persistent. She explained that she was a private investigator, so it was in her nature to be curious. John confided that his business with Sonny dated back to before Sam's husband had started to work for Sonny. Sam wanted to know what John knew about Jason, so John admitted that he was aware that Jason was Sonny's right-hand man. Sam asked to see some identification, so John handed his badge to her. Sam noted that Lieutenant McBain was out of his jurisdiction. John chuckled, as he confessed that he'd heard that from several people in town. However, he added that the two people who had been killed in the car crash, which Sonny was accused of causing, had been from Llanview, and that he had been close to Cole Thornhart. Sam assured John that Jason had had nothing to do with the accident, because Jason had been in the hospital. John promised that he wasn't after Jason. "Not yet, anyway," John added. Sam wondered what that meant, but John refused to elaborate. He offered to give her a ride home, but Sam told him that she had her car. John extended his condolences to Sam on the loss of her friend, and then advised her to be careful, because it was dark outside. Sam assured him that she wasn't afraid of the dark, like most people. She again wondered if they had met before. "Maybe in another life," John offered. Sam chuckled, and then asked if he really believed in such things, so John admitted that he did. On the bridge, Jason confessed to Elizabeth that he had sensed that something had been wrong after the explosion in the hospital. He then revealed that after the surgery, he had seen it in Sam's eyes that something was off every time he had asked for Robin. Elizabeth assured him that Sam had done everything that she could to save Jason's life. Jason was curious if Elizabeth knew that Robin had died for him. He insisted that Robin should have been at home with Emma, not dead. Elizabeth argued that Robin would have done the same for anyone, because it was how Robin had lived her life. Jason was filled with remorse, but Elizabeth explained that it had been Robin's choice, so it wasn't Jason's fault, or Sam's. She urged Jason to forgive himself for being alive, because it was what Robin had wanted. Jason confessed that he was there to say goodbye, but he didn't know where to start. Elizabeth warned him that holding onto Robin wouldn't change things. Jason assured her that he knew that, but Elizabeth realized that he might have found closure if he had attended the funeral. Jason was curious about the funeral, so Elizabeth told him told him about everyone's eulogies, but carefully avoided mentioning Maxie's meltdown. Jason wondered how Patrick was doing, so Elizabeth admitted that Patrick was struggling. She then revealed that Robin would be cremated, which was something that a child shouldn't be told. Therefore, Elizabeth had arranged to have a commemorative brick added in the hospital's courtyard with Robin's name on it. Jason was curious how Emma was holding up. Elizabeth explained that Emma was confused, because children didn't understand death the way that adults did. Jason noticed Elizabeth's sad expression, so he realized that she was thinking about Jake. Jason remarked that the one-year anniversary of their son's death was the following day. Jason was surprised when Elizabeth confided that Jake had loved going to the bridge, and that their son had first seen it when Elizabeth had taken the boys to a nearby park. Elizabeth told Jason that Jake had loved standing on the bridge, and gazing at the rushing water below. According to Elizabeth, Jake had acted like it was the best place on earth. "Well, he was with his mom," Jason quietly told her. Elizabeth smiled sadly, as she confessed that being on the bridge made her feel closer to Jake. "Almost within reach," Elizabeth added. Jason thanked Elizabeth for telling him about Jake's connection to the bridge. Elizabeth reached into her coat pocket, and then pulled out a handful of dried leaves. She tearfully revealed that Jake had taken the leaves home after their last trip to the bridge. Elizabeth explained that Jake had enjoyed tossing the leaves over the bridge, so that he could watch them drift to the water. Her voice cracked, as she recalled that Jake had once asked her if she thought that the leaves would make it to the ocean. Jason was curious what Elizabeth had told Jake. "Absolutely. They're not going to stop until they get where they need to be," Elizabeth replied. Jason wrapped his hand around hers, as she quietly admitted that she missed Jake. Jason's eyes filled with tears. "I hope you can hear us, Jake. Just hope you can feel how much we love you," Jason told their son. The wind whistled, as Jason and Elizabeth opened their hands to allow the crackling leaves to drift away. Afterwards, Jason continued to hold Elizabeth's hand, as they watched the water carry the leaves down the river. 3/22 Sam was on the phone with her mother when Jason arrived home. Sam quickly ended the call, and then told Jason that she had been concerned about him, because he had been gone all night. Jason assured her that he hadn't meant to worry her, so Sam wondered where he had been. Jason admitted that he had gone to the bridge at Blackstone Canyon. "Alone?" Sam asked. Jason revealed that he had been with Elizabeth. Sam wondered how Jason and Elizabeth had ended up together, so Jason explained that Elizabeth had gone to the bridge, because it had been Jake's favorite place. Jason then added that it was the one-year anniversary of Jake's death. Sam assured Jason that she was glad that he'd had the opportunity to spend some time with Elizabeth. Jason was curious if Sam would have let Elizabeth see him if he had still been in the hospital. "Of course," Sam answered. Jason had his doubts, because talking about Jake might have upset him as much as finding out about Robin's death. Sam explained that she hadn't told Jason about Robin's passing, because she had been trying to give him time to heal after the surgery. She didn't understand why he was mad at her for wanting to protect him. Jason pointed out that Sam had lied to him, and that he didn't want her lying to him for what she thought was his own good. Sam admitted that, if she had to do it over, she would have done the same thing, because she was certain that Jason would have tried to go to the lab, even though Robin couldn't have been saved. Jason argued that it had been his choice to make, not Sam's. Sam reminded Jason that Robin had wanted Jason to live, so Jason was curious why Sam had continued to keep the news from him after the procedure. Sam insisted that she had been trying to give him time to heal, but Jason reminded her that it was his life, and that Robin had been his friend. According to Jason, everything good in his life had started with Robin.
Sam assured Jason that she had intended to give him time to grieve, but Jason wasn't satisfied, because it hadn't been her place to decide what he could and couldn't handle. Sam insisted that she had waited day after day, and night after night, for Jason to wake up, so she couldn't bear the thought of losing him. Sam begged Jason to forgive her. Jason explained that she had taken away his power to make his own decisions, so he didn't know what to do with that. Sam offered to go to Alexis' house to give him time to think things over. Jason assured Sam that it wasn't necessary, because he knew that she had acted out of fear. Jason revealed that Elizabeth had told him that it hadn't been Sam's fault, and then admitted that he was mad at Robin for going into the lab to save his life. Jason was frustrated, because he couldn't fix that. Jason realized that Sam had lied because she loved him. Sam relaxed when Jason assured her that he loved her too. Jason and Sam hugged, and then sat down on the sofa. Jason changed the subject by asking if there had been any more messages, or signs, from Franco. Sam promised him that nothing had surfaced since they had received the DVD. Sam wanted them to focus on their future, so Jason kissed her, and then suggested that they go to the bedroom. Jason and Sam made it as far as the stairs when Spinelli knocked on the door. Jason opened the door. Spinelli quickly figured out that Jason had heard about Robin, so he offered Jason his condolences, and then shifted gears to reveal that he had news. According to Spinelli, Franco's DVD might have been a clue. 3/23 Spinelli was concerned that the anniversary of Jake’s death and Robin’s funeral might be too much for a recovering Jason. He hesitated when Jason and Sam asked him for the details of Franco’s DVD. Spinelli was flustered and distracted, causing Jason and Sam to worry Spinelli was under too much stress. Spinelli said he was fine and revealed that Jason had been delivered at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in New York City. Jason noticed Spinelli’s continued hesitancy and demanded to know what was going on. Spinelli explained that Maxie was in a dire situation, and Spinelli couldn’t do anything to help her. Sonny arrived, and Sam and Spinelli left. Jason lamented the choice Sam had made, to have kept him from knowing Robin had been killed. The hardest thing, Jason declared, was knowing that Robin had perished trying to save Jason’s life. Jason changed the subject to Sonny’s defense against the charges he’d shot out Anthony’s tires. Jason made it clear that he knew, in his gut, that Sonny did not have anything to do with the crash that killed Cole and Hope. “I need you to deal with a cop named John McBain,” Sonny announced. Sam told Spinelli she knew he would not rest until Maxie was released from custody. Spinelli said that it was complicated, because Maxie had confessed to having killed Lisa. Spinelli let Sam know that he understood why Sam had kept Robin’s death from Jason. Sam returned, prompting Sonny to exit. Sam offered to go to the hospital where Jason had been born to look for clues, but Jason discouraged Sam from pursuing it. As he headed upstairs, there was a knock on the door. Sam was surprised to find McBain in the hallway. 3/28 At the penthouse, Sam looked at a picture of Jason, shortly after Jason's birth, which showed the hospital's identification bracelet. Jason walked up behind his wife, and then wrapped his arms around her. He began to nuzzle her neck, so Sam warned him that she would miss her flight if he didn't stop. Jason confessed that he could think of worse things to happen. Sam was curious why Jason didn't want her to go to the hospital, where he had been born, for answers. Jason confessed that he didn't think that there was anything to be gained by digging into the past, and that he had thought that she had wanted to put Franco behind them. Sam explained that she couldn't find closure until she knew why Franco had left the DVD, and what Franco was trying to tell them. Sam assured Jason that she realized that Franco could no longer hurt them, but she needed to do it. Jason insisted that the hospital wasn't going anywhere, so he wanted her to wait until he had a chance to sort things out for Sonny regarding the car crash. Sam was curious if Jason believed that Sonny were innocent. Jason explained that Sonny would have confessed if Sonny had caused the death of a child, but Sam pointed out that innocent people had been caught in the crossfire in the past. She reminded Jason of what had happened to Jax, and of the time that Sonny had fired a gun in Robin's home. Jason continued to defend Sonny. Sam realized that Jason was loyal to Sonny, but she feared that Sonny was using that against Jason. Jason insisted that Sonny would take responsibility for a little girl's death. "No, you would admit it. You and Sonny aren't the same," Sam argued. Sam accused Sonny of not always thinking things through, so Jason suggested that Sam look at the facts. Jason reminded Sam that Sonny had been shot in the left arm earlier in the evening, so Sonny couldn't have been driving down the road, and shooting out Anthony's tires with an injured arm. Sam agreed that it wouldn't be easy, but she insisted that it wasn't impossible. "To hit the rear wheels of a moving car?" Jason asked. Jason argued that Sonny wasn't that good of a shot. Sam remained unconvinced, because Sonny had been extremely emotional on the night of the accident, which meant that Sonny hadn't been thinking clearly. Jason wondered why Sam seemed to want Sonny to be guilty. Sam admitted that, with the baby on the way, she had wondered what things might be like if Sonny were sent away. Sam pointed out that Jason would be free. "We'd be free," Sam quietly added. Jason was stunned. Sam explained that it would be safer, and more stable, if Jason were no longer in the mob. Jason reminded Sam that she had known what she was getting into. He was curious if perhaps that had been the reason that she had been talking to John McBain. Sam promised Jason that John had nothing to do with it. She insisted that she just wanted to provide the best, and the safest life for their baby. Moments later, someone knocked. Jason realized that it was Sonny. Sam quickly apologized for making an issue of Jason's role in Sonny's organization before she left for her trip. Jason assured Sam that he loved her, and then asked her to call when she landed. Sam agreed, kissed her husband, gathered her things, and then sailed out of the door without acknowledging Sonny. **The End** |
