Jason & Sam #26 August 19 - November 29, 2010 - 8 hour original edit DVD #26A At Jason's penthouse, he and Sam shared breakfast together. They fantasized about a fabulous vacation in a tropical paradise, when the police knocked on the door. Jason answered to find Ronnie, who informed Jason that he was the prime suspect in a suspicious fire at one of Johnny's warehouses the previous night. Ronnie arrested Jason and took him to jail. In the interrogation room at the police station, Jason refused to answer any of Ronnie's questions without his lawyer present. Ronnie rhetorically asked what magic Sonny had. He referred to the fact that Claire had left a loophole in the plea agreement so that Jason could be released and that she'd used the loophole as a favor to Sonny. Another cop led Michael into the room, and Ronnie explained that he thought Michael knew more than he'd admitted about the drive-by shooting that was almost responsible for killing Johnny. Ronnie told Michael about the witness who had described having seen "a big blond kid" at the scene of the shooting, before Michael had said he was there. Ronnie questioned Michael but, on Jason's advice, Michael said nothing. Diane arrived and scolded Ronnie for illegally questioning, not one, but two of her clients. Outside of the interrogation room, Diane spewed a litany of reasons as to why Ronnie's actions were not only negligent but criminal. As she read him the riot act, Sam slipped into the interrogation room. Michael told Jason that he didn't need to be protected by Jason every single minute. Diane returned and announced that Michael was free to leave but that Jason might be held for up to 48 hours. Michael and Sam left the room, and Diane updated Jason on the tensions between Sonny and Johnny that had been escalating while Jason was in prison. Diane demanded to know if Sonny had ordered Johnny's warehouse torched. Jason replied that he believed Sonny when Sonny had stated that he wanted to deescalate hostilities after Michael nearly got shot. At that moment, Jason noticed that Sam had left and asked Diane where she had gone. Sam arrived at Sonny’s with the news that Jason had been arrested. She reported that she'd called Diane who was on her way down to the police station, but Sam wanted to know if Sonny had been the one to have the warehouse destroyed. Sonny vehemently denied having had anything to do with the incident and insisted it must have been Santos Lopez. At Jason's penthouse, Sam strapped a knife to her ankle and stashed a gun in her waistband as Spinelli walked in. She asked Spinelli to check the schematics of the Lopez Brothers' warehouse because she had to prove that Jason had not torched Johnny's warehouse. 8/20 Sam snuck into a warehouse and overheard Santos tell another man that Johnny would pay for Tomas' death. They heard a noise and surmised that someone was in the building with them. They both drew their weapons. Santos directed the other man to leave, as Santos had some of his own business to tend to. The man left, and Santos called someone on the phone and told the person that the enemies of the Lopez Brothers would not be left alone. He scouted around the warehouse and looked for the intruder. Sam hid, crouched between boxes on a shelf. Later, as Santos told another man to run Johnny down if he were to see him, Sam took photos with her phone. Santos drove away in a panel van, while Sam hid in the back of another one. In the interrogation room at the Port Charles police station, Jason worried that Sam might do something dangerous to prove that he had nothing to do with the fire at Johnny's warehouse. Diane made it clear that Jason would not be able to go to Sam's aid until Ronnie released him. Diane left to check in with Spinelli and returned with information that Sam had requested the floor plan of a warehouse that belonged to the Lopez Brothers. Jason demanded that Diane spring him from jail, as Ronnie entered the room. Ronnie hinted that he might have to falsify evidence to keep Jason locked up but that Jason wouldn't be released for some time. Diane called a judge and worked a personal connection to get a hearing. Claire walked in and told Diane not to bother because Claire had been called in to oppose. After Diane explained the situation, Claire asked Ronnie to speak with her in private.Outside of the interrogation room, Claire blasted Ronnie for his actions. Ronnie justified his actions and told Claire that she had become a liability to law enforcement. She replied that she'd have his badge if he were to pull another stunt like that. Ronnie was recalcitrant. Claire returned to the interrogation room and told Diane that she would not drop the charges. Letting Jason out of Pentonville, Claire explained, had been her last favor to him or Sonny. Later, Dante returned to the police station, surprised to see that Jason was detained. Dante asked Ronnie why Jason had been arrested. Ronnie replied that Jason was a suspect in the fire that had destroyed Johnny's warehouse. Dante knew that it didn't make any sense for Jason to have done that. Ronnie and Dante argued about which side of the law Dante was on and whether Ronnie was waging a vendetta that was compromising his decisions. Ronnie left and Dante went to talk to Jason. Dante told Jason that Santos believed Johnny had killed Tomas but that Dante and Jason knew it was Sonny who had been behind the hit. Dante told Jason that a lot of people they cared for could be hurt if things continued to escalate. Jason railed against Ronnie and informed Dante that Ronnie had taken Michael off of a road crew as an attempt to harass Jason. Dante said he'd make sure that wouldn't happen again but worried more about the brewing war between Johnny and Sonny. Jason relayed that Sonny was willing to negotiate with Johnny. After Dante left, Claire walked in and released Jason. The judge had agreed with Diane's contention that the police lacked sufficient evidence to hold him. She returned Jason's personal belongings to him and he left, just in time to receive a call from Sam. Calling from the back of the Lopez van as it was being driven by one of Santos' men, she whispered that she'd gotten good evidence to prove that it was Santos who had torched Johnny's warehouse, The bad news, she reported, was that she was trapped. Sonny walked down the sidewalk in front of the Harborview Towers. Johnny appeared and held a gun on Sonny. Sonny told Johnny that he was willing to make peace, but Johnny wouldn't have it. Johnny accused Sonny of having broken Claudia down until she lost her mind and that Michael, an innocent kid, had to take her out. To make matters worse, Sonny had buried her like an animal. Johnny was momentarily distracted when someone walked by, and Sonny acted; he pulled out his gun and shot Johnny. As Johnny lay on the sidewalk, bleeding, Sonny walked away. Ronnie walked by and found Johnny, struggling to breathe. Ronnie told Johnny that he'd call an ambulance and asked who had shot him. Johnny uttered that it had been Sonny. Ronnie used a handkerchief to pick up the gun Johnny still clutched in his hand and placed it in his own back pocket. Ronnie then called in an APB for Sonny Corinthos, who he said was armed and dangerous. "He just shot an unarmed man on the street," Ronnie lied. 8/23 Sam managed to hide in the Lopez's van before they left to make a drug deal. She called Jason, who had just been released from police custody, to tell him what had happened. Jason located her using the GPS in her phone. Jason told Sam to get out of the van as soon as it stopped and he would pick her up. As soon as the Lopez gang got to their destination, Sam escaped the van and ducked behind a dumpster, where Jason found her. She and Jason almost got away, but were caught before they could get out of sight. Tomas Lopez smashed Sam's cell phone, which had the evidence Sam had gone after in order to clear Jason. Lopez raised his gun to shoot, but Sam and Jason were quicker. They overpowered Lopez and his thugs, jumped in Lopez's van, and sped away. Sam was upset because the evidence to clear Jason had been lost. Jason laughed and said it was not needed because Diane had taken care of the problem. Jason said their big worry was that they were driving a van, which was probably filled with illegal contraband. Jason said that they needed to ditch the van as soon as possible. When they pulled the van over and parked it, each told the other how much they cared. As Jason and Sam shared a warm kiss, police sirens and flashing red lights closed in on them. 8/24 Jason and Sam were pulled over after they had fled the Lopez compound. Jason and Sam were nervous until the policeman explained that the van, that they had been driving, had a flat tire. The policeman offered to change their tire, but he was curious what Jason and Sam were doing in the middle of nowhere. Sam immediately began spinning a story about how Jason had driven around for hours because he had refused to stop to ask for directions. The officer chuckled as he confessed that he had similar arguments with his wife and that she had given him a GPS device for Christmas, which was still in the box. The police officer wondered where they were headed. Jason named a nearby town, so the officer offered to change the tire and then give Jason directions. Jason panicked when the officer started to open the van door to fetch the spare tire. Jason immediately held it closed and then explained that he would never hear the end of it if he didn't change the tire himself. Sam quickly confirmed Jason's claim. Jason and Sam breathed a sigh of relief when the police officer received a request for backup after a tractor trailer had overturned on the highway. The officer gave Jason directions and then left. Sam and Jason quickly checked the van for essentials. After Sam found some water and chocolate, Jason rigged the van to explode. Unfortunately for Sam, she twisted her ankle as they started to flee into the woods. Jason was forced to hoist Sam over his shoulder as they began their trek. Jason stopped when he found a secluded area for them to rest in for the night. Sam felt terrible that she had made such a mess of things, but Jason reminded her that she had saved them when the cop had questioned them about the van. Sam pointed out that she would likely have had more than a busted up ankle if Jason hadn't rescued her from the Lopez compound. 8/25 In the woods, Sam woke up in Jason's arms. Sam's ankle remained injured, so Jason had to carry Sam through the woods until they found an abandoned cabin. They quickly determined that the cabin didn't have electricity or phone service, but there was food. Jason ordered Sam to rest her foot while he scrounged together a meal. A short time later, Sam had to admit that she was impressed with Jason's skill in the kitchen. As they ate, Jason revealed that he had spotted a Jeep in the garage. Jason planned to check it out, to see if he could get it started. Sam admitted that she was disappointed at the prospect of returning to Port Charles because she had enjoyed spending time alone with Jason. Jason confessed that he had thought of her every moment while he had been in jail. Jason was determined not to lose her again, so he promised to take her on a vacation after they returned home. Jason handed Sam a gun and then left to check out the Jeep. A short time later, Jason returned with news that he couldn't start the Jeep. Sam suspected that it might be the distributor, so she insisted on looking at the Jeep herself. Jason was reluctant to agree until Sam suggested that he was just intimidated because he knew how to cook, but she knew how to fix things. Jason hoisted her onto his back and then opened the door. Jason took one step as shots rang out. Under a hail of bullets, Jason retreated back into the cabin. 8/26 In the woods, shots rang out as Jason and Sam started to leave the cabin. Jason and Sam quickly retreated inside and then hit the floor as bullets zipped over their heads. Sam realized that Lopez and his men had found them. Sam blamed herself for their predicament because she had been determined to gather proof to keep Jason from going back to jail. Jason insisted that it wasn't her fault, but Sam refused to let him make excuses for her. Sam confessed that she had been desperate to keep him with her, but she had never planned for them to become trapped in a cabin that was surrounded by their enemy. Sam tried to get up, in an effort to make a run for it with Jason, but her ankle was too badly injured. Jason instructed Sam to stay put. He decided to lure Lopez's men inside by letting them think that Jason and Sam had run out of ammunition or escaped out the back door. Jason hoped to pick the men off one by one as they entered the cabin to investigate. As Jason and Sam hunkered down, Sam admitted that she hated waiting to die. Jason promised that she wouldn't be killed, but moments later, the shooting resumed. Sam wondered how long it would last as she covered her head from the flying debris. Jason didn't know, but he was concerned because the men hadn't entered the cabin yet. 8/27 Despite Jason's warning, Sam attempted to walk on her injured ankle, but was unable to walk much. They made plans to deal with Santos' men, should they attack the couple in the cabin they'd taken refuge in. Sam reminisced about the last time she and Jason had been trapped somewhere with someone pursuing them: when Jerry Jacks wanted to kill Jason, as they'd sought Michael and Kristina in Mexico, the year before. Sam said that the experience had probably been good for them because, aside from the fact that they'd survived, they'd also grown closer and had been able to put all of the mistakes in their past behind them. Jason agreed, and they began to kiss, when they heard a noise outside. Jason identified that Santos' men were getting into position. Before Jason left to get a jump on them, Sam kissed him and told him to be careful. Jason sneaked outside, while Sam sat behind an overturned table, a rifle in her hands. Outside, Jason trained his sights on the men as they approached the door to the cabin. The men burst through the door, and gunfire ensued. 8/30 Out in the woods, one of the Lopez thugs broke in the cabin and Sam shot him. Jason almost shot the next intruder, who turned out to be Lucky. Lucky explained that he had been following the Lopez gang and had been about to call for backup when he was spotted and had to run. He had dropped his cell phone, but had fortunately spotted the cabin before the gang caught up with him. Sam and Jason explained that their adventure had begun when Sam had tried to get evidence against the Lopez gang so that she could clear Jason of Ronnie's false charges. Lucky was glad to hear she had evidence but sorry it had been lost when Lopez had smashed her cell phone. Jason had rescued Sam, but in doing so had ended up destroying the Lopez gang's van and getting trapped in the cabin after Sam sprained an ankle. Since Lucky's car was nearby, Jason suggested that Sam and Lucky make a run for it while he held off the Lopez thugs. Both Sam and Lucky refused that plan because it meant that Jason would have to hold off five or six armed men. Lucky suggested that they wait. He said that if he did not check in soon, the PCPD would start looking for him. Before the threesome made a decision, the thugs tossed burning bottle of gasoline through a window and the cabin caught fire. 8/31 In the woods, Lucky, Sam, and Jason weighed their options when they realized that the cabin that they were hiding in had been set on fire. They realized that if they ran out of the front door then Lopez's men would open fire on them. Lucky decided that their best hope of escaping the inferno was if Lucky created a diversion at the front of the cabin, so that Jason and Sam could slip out the back door. The plan was put into motion. Moments later, Jason and Sam made it to safety. Jason and Sam breathed a sigh of relief when Lucky caught up to them minutes later. Unfortunately for them, the danger had not passed. Lopez's men continued to fire at them. Jason decided that it was his turn to draw the men away, so that Sam and Lucky could escape. Jason raced through the woods, firing his gun. A short time later, Lopez's men had scattered or were dead. Lucky was annoyed when he finally heard the sound of police sirens, so Lucky instructed Jason and Sam to let him do all of the talking when the police arrived.9/1 Jason and Sam arrived at the hospital. As Epiphany went to fetch a wheelchair for Sam, Claire approached Jason to demand to know where Sonny was. Jason was stunned when Claire revealed that Sonny had skipped town after claiming that the shooting had been self-defense and then posting bail. Jason assured Claire that he had no idea where Sonny had gone, but Claire didn't believe him. Claire was certain that Sonny had called Jason to let Jason know about his plans. Epiphany returned with the wheelchair for Sam. Steve walked up moments later to find out what had happened to Sam. Sam explained that she had twisted her ankle, but Jason clarified that Sam had torn up her ankle. Steve decided to examine Sam's ankle in a nearby examination bay, but Claire stopped Jason from following Sam. Claire insisted that she had some questions for Jason. Jason and Claire stepped into the conference room to speak privately. Claire reminded Jason that she had arranged for his release from Pentonville, so he owed her. Jason suggested that Claire speak to Lucky because Lucky was his alibi. A short time later, Lucky confirmed that Jason and Sam had encountered Santos Lopez's men in the woods. After Claire ended the call with Lucky, she argued that Sonny could have called Jason. Jason didn't deny it, but he explained that he had left his phone in the car. Claire was certain that Sonny had shot Johnny, but Jason doubted that Sonny would shoot an unarmed man. He was curious if Claire seriously thought that Sonny was stupid enough to open fire on someone on a public street. Claire ignored the question as she instructed Jason to call her when Sonny contacted him. Jason was noncommittal, but he doubted that Sonny would risk it. Moments later, Steve and Sam approached Jason. Steve explained that Sam had a "soft tissue" injury, so she needed to rest her ankle for a few days. Jason promised that it wouldn't be a problem and then took Sam home. When Jason and Sam arrived at the penthouse, she made it clear that she didn't want Jason to fuss over her; however, Jason was determined to take care of Sam. Sam confessed that she desperately wanted a shower, so Jason picked up Sam and then carried her to the bathroom. Diane arrived to talk to Jason. Diane explained that Sonny was headed to Rome, but she couldn't figure out why Sonny would fly to Italy. Jason revealed that Brenda lived in Rome. Diane had never met Brenda, but she recognized her name and her face from various fashion magazines. Diane grumbled that Sonny should probably avoid being around such a high-profile person while he was on the run. Their talk abruptly ended when someone knocked on the door. It was Carly, she wanted to know where Sonny was. 9/2 At the penthouse, Carly demanded to know where Sonny had fled to. Diane advised Jason not to prolong the suffering. Diane thought that it was best to use the "rip off the band aid" method. Jason promised to let Carly know Sonny's destination once he had some kind of confirmation. Carly decided to plant herself on Jason's sofa to wait. Diane chuckled knowingly as she suggested that the suffering that she had referred to had been in reference to Jason, not Carly. Diane warned Jason that Carly would find out eventually; she suggested that it might be easier on Carly if she heard the news from a friend. Jason didn't think that Diane was helping, so Diane decided to leave. Carly quickly played the Michael card to get Jason to tell her where Sonny was. Jason pleaded with Carly to remain calm. Carly promised not to get upset because she didn't think that there was anything that Jason could say that would shock her. Jason revealed that Sonny had flown to Rome to find Brenda. "Except that," Carly responded. Carly was livid that Sonny had abandoned his four children to chase after a "spoiled little drama queen." Carly proceeded to rant about Sonny's selfishness and how bad Sonny and Brenda were for each other. Jason gently reminded Carly that it wasn't their call to make, but Carly disagreed. Carly insisted that it wouldn't be good for the kids, so they had to stop them. Jason begged Carly to promise not to do anything. Carly assured him that she wouldn't and then left. A short time later, Sam hobbled into the living room. Jason quickly ushered Sam to the sofa and then asked if she had slept. Sam confessed that Carly's yelling had awoken her. Sam was curious what Carly had been upset about. Jason revealed that Sonny had flown to Rome to see Brenda. Jason feared that if Sonny were apprehended then he might have to stand trial. Sam was confident that Sonny was smart enough to avoid getting caught. "Not when it's about Brenda," Jason argued. Jason thought that it had been a mistake for Sonny to search for Brenda because Sonny and Brenda always ended up hurting each other. 9/3 In his living room, Jason explained to Sam that Brenda meant nothing to him, that he'd married her because of blackmail. Sam compared the situation to his having stepped in when Sam had gotten pregnant with Sonny's child. Jason made it clear that he'd truly wanted to be there for Sam when she was in need. Sam worried that Jason still felt obligated to Brenda, but he replied that he'd never really gotten "the whole Brenda thing." He told Sam that Brenda was everything Sam was not. Brenda was nothing more than annoying to him. Later, Dante arrived at the penthouse and demanded to know where Sonny had gone. Jason explained that he and Sonny hadn't talked before Sonny jumped bail, because Santos' and his men were ambushing Jason at the time. One thing he did know, however, was that Sonny was too smart to have shot a defenseless Johnny in public, as Johnny had claimed. Dante asked Jason to help prove it. Dante explained that he was bound by the confines of the law, but Jason had more freedom to find evidence that would prove Johnny had set Sonny up. At that moment, Carly burst through the door--and didn't see Dante--as she blabbered about Sonny having left the country. Dante asked her for details, which caught her off-guard. 9/8 At the penthouse, Dante persuaded Jason to work together to clear Sonny's name. After Dante left, Jason ordered Spinelli to run a full background check on Brenda. Jason was certain that Sonny was with Brenda, so he they needed to find Brenda. Spinelli confessed that he was curious about Jason's former wife. Jason grumbled that he had hated being married to Brenda. Sam lurked at the top of the staircase, eavesdropping as Spinelli and Jason talked about Brenda. Spinelli couldn't imagine someone as lovely as Brenda being anything, but an angel. Sam looked uncomfortable as Spinelli waxed poetic about Brenda's beauty. Jason complained that Brenda was a horrible person and that Sam was better than Brenda in every possible way. Spinelli beamed with satisfaction and then announced that he needed to head to the office to complete his investigation. After Spinelli left, Jason saw Sam sitting on the bottom step with a broad smile on her face. Sam confessed that Jason's words had been the nicest thing that he had said about her. Jason returned the smile and then helped Sam to the sofa. Sam sensed that something was troubling Jason. He explained that Sonny took too many risks, so he didn't think that he could help his friend. Later, Jason revealed that he had agreed to work with Dante to clear Sonny's name. Sam was curious if there had been any leads. Jason admitted that they had eight names, but no guarantees. Jason confided that perhaps it had been for the best that Sonny had left town. 9/9 Carly arrived at Jason's penthouse at his request. Jason explained that Sonny had called to let Jason know that he had decided to return for the sake of the children. Carly immediately demanded to know if Brenda would be with Sonny. Jason didn't know, but he didn't think it was important, since Sonny would be busy with the authorities once he landed. Carly's curiosity about Brenda's travel plans evaporated when Jason mentioned that he and Dante needed to work together to prove that Sonny had shot Johnny in self-defense. Carly couldn't believe that Jason would team up with Dante. Carly ranted that Dante was nothing more than a liar who had sent Michael to Pentonville. Jason didn't dispute Carly's claims, but he explained that Dante believed that Sonny was innocent of the charges. Carly was certain that Dante was just trying to get his hands on any evidence that might exonerate Sonny, so that he could get rid of it before it cleared Sonny of wrongdoing. Carly insisted that Dante had been the reason that Michael had gone to jail. Jason reminded Carly that Dante had also gotten Michael out of jail. Carly didn't care; the damage had already been done to Michael by then. Jason thought that they had other things to worry about than Carly's hatred for Dante, but Carly refused to let it go. She informed Jason that Michael wanted to drop out of school because he thought that he was nothing and didn't have any hope of a future. Carly insisted that Michael hadn't been the same since he had been released from Pentonville. Jason argued that they all bore some responsibility for what had happened to Michael. Carly revealed that Michael had almost flipped out when Kristina's friend had tried to pull Michael into the pool. She also added that Michael always flinched when someone touched him. Tears gathered in her eyes as Carly insisted that Michael was broken. Carly blamed Dante for that and swore that nothing Jason could say would change her mind. As far as Carly was concerned, Dante would never be able to redeem himself for what Michael had endured in prison because nothing could make it go away. Jason was waiting for Dante at the police station when Dante arrived. Jason and Dante went to the interrogation room to speak privately. Dante was surprised when Jason revealed that Sonny was on his way back to Port Charles to face the charges, so it was imperative that they find proof of Sonny's innocence. Dante showed Jason the list of five people that Spinelli had found who had used an ATM near Baker Street around the time of the shooting. Jason was stunned to see Ronnie's name on the list. Jason immediately accused Ronnie of hating Sonny enough to tamper with evidence by getting rid of Johnny's gun after the shooting. Dante refused to accept that Ronnie would go that far, but Jason reminded Dante that Ronnie had kept silent about his connection to Franco. Jason explained that Dante had a choice: protect Ronnie or get to the truth. 9/10 Jason presented evidence to Dante that Ronnie had ditched Johnny's gun at the crime scene, after Johnny had been shot. Claire arrived as Diane and Sonny walked into the police station. Diane explained that Sonny had merely spent time alone to clear his head but that he had not jumped bail. Claire didn't buy it and demanded to interrogate Sonny. Sonny asked to speak to Jason first, and Claire allowed it. In the interrogation room, Sonny told Jason that he'd returned to Port Charles because of his children but that he absolutely couldn't go to prison. Sonny explained that the better part of him had been lost somewhere along the way toward that point in his life and that he had to reclaim his better self. He wanted to show that side of him to his kids. Sonny begged Jason to find evidence that would prove Johnny had been armed the night of the shooting. Jason left. Dante approached Ronnie and asked when Ronnie had decided to remove Johnny's gun from the crime scene. Ronnie categorically denied that he had framed Sonny and accused Dante of allowing himself to be manipulated by Sonny. Ronnie told Dante to get his priorities straight. After Ronnie walked away, Dante told Jason that it was credible that Ronnie had disposed of the gun. They had to prove it, Dante stated.
Dante and Jason went to a construction site to speak to one of the potential witnesses. Dante took the lead, as they posed as a television crew doing a story on Johnny Zacchara's shooting. The man stated that he didn't know anything about the incident and wouldn't feel comfortable discussing it if he did. Dante convinced the man that he could become a celebrity if they were to do a story on him. The man admitted that he had been on Baker Street, shooting video of a potential construction site, when Johnny was shot. He showed them footage that clearly showed the confrontation between Sonny and Johnny. 9/13 Jason and Dante pretended to be TV reporters when they questioned a construction worker who had recorded video footage of the confrontation between Sonny and Johnny. The footage was inconclusive. It was apparent that Johnny was holding something, but whether or not it was a gun was unclear. Dante revealed himself as a policeman and convinced the worker to give him the video footage. After the worker left the room, Dante told Jason that he had a plan to get Johnny to confess the truth. They agreed that if Dante's plan worked, they had to convince Sonny and Johnny to call a truce. Dante confronted Johnny at the hospital. He showed Johnny a photo that was clearly Johnny with something in his outstretched hand. Dante bluffed that the worker who had taken the video would testify that Johnny had a gun. Dante offered Johnny a choice: make peace with Sonny or face arrest for making a false statement. Johnny reluctantly admitted that he had pulled a gun on Sonny but did not know what had happened to the gun. He agreed to make peace. Jason talked to Sonny at the police station. He told Sonny about the bluff that Dante was running on Johnny. Jason said that if it worked, Sonny and Johnny had to reach a genuine truce, which they would have to work out between themselves. Sonny readily agreed. He told Jason that he wanted to protect his kids, and he was eager to make peace with Johnny. He added, "I'm better than this." Sam was still using crutches for her ankle when Michael stopped by the penthouse to see Jason. He said he wanted to talk to Jason about going back to school. Sam encouraged him to go to school and told him he would have lots of opportunities as a result. Michael seemed uncomfortable with the direction of the conversation and left after asking Sam to tell Jason he wanted to talk. When Jason got home, Sam was excited about the trip she was planning for them. She listed the benefits of going to Greece and renting a sailboat. Jason said that with Sam disabled, it sounded like a lot of work for him. Sam was laughing when she retorted that if you got a tan it was not work. Sam told Jason that Michael had been by to say that he was going back to school. Jason was glad to hear it. He told Sam about Dante's plan and Sonny's agreement to make peace with Johnny. As they went back to discussing Sam's proposed Greek trip, Jason got a call. It was Suzanne. She said that Jason was listed as an emergency contact for Brenda. 9/14 At Jason's penthouse, Jason spoke to Suzanne on the phone about the recent attacks on Brenda. Suzanne sensed that Jason was surprised by the call, so she explained that Brenda had listed him as an emergency contact. Jason demanded to know more about the attempts on Brenda's life. Suzanne explained that someone had recently tried to knife Brenda and that Interpol had become involved. Jason was curious why Brenda wasn't surrounded by security. Suzanne revealed that Brenda had a security team in place to protect her, but Brenda didn't take the threats seriously enough, so she tended to ignore all of the security measures. Jason requested that Suzanne fax him all the details and then promised to fly to Rome that evening. However, Jason made it clear that he didn't want Brenda to know his intentions. After Jason ended the call, Sam seemed unhappy at the prospect of Jason flying to Italy to take care of Brenda. Jason explained that Brenda had listed him as an emergency contact and that there had been several attempts on Brenda's life. Sam assured Jason that she understood, but Jason sensed that Sam remained troubled. He invited her to join him on the trip, but Sam declined. She thought that he would have enough to contend with trying to take care of Brenda. Sam grabbed her crutches and then explained that she had to run an errand, but she promised to return before he left for Rome. Jason assured Sam that he wouldn't have agreed to go unless it had been an emergency. Sam admitted that Brenda had been smart to marry Jason because he really was the best protector. A short time later, Jason filled Spinelli in on Brenda's recent troubles. Spinelli was horrified that someone as divine as Brenda was in peril. Spinelli was eager to join Jason on the trip, but Jason made it clear that he had to deal with Brenda alone. Spinelli argued that he could be of help to Jason, but Jason refused to change his mind. Spinelli wondered if Jason preferred some privacy during his reunion with Brenda. Jason insisted that he just wanted to get to Rome, take care of the problem, and then return home. Sam returned in time to overhear part of Jason and Spinelli's conversation before she opened the front door to enter the penthouse. Spinelli suggested that Jason might want to rekindle things with Brenda, but Jason insisted that there wasn't anything to rekindle. Spinelli argued that Rome was the eternal city of love. "What could be more romantic?" Spinelli wondered. Sam opened the door and then hobbled in. Spinelli immediately realized that Sam had overheard him. Later, Jason returned to the living room to find Sam sitting on the sofa. He wondered where Spinelli was. Sam confessed that Spinelli had been mortified because she had overheard his comments about a possible romantic reunion with the "oh so gorgeous Brenda." Jason assured Sam that Spinelli was just being Spinelli and that he hadn't meant any harm. Sam realized that Spinelli had a rich imagination, so she didn't hold any grudges against him. However, she admitted that a part of her had been a bit insecure, but only for a second. Jason explained that he was flying to Italy because he had to, not because he wanted to. Jason made it clear that the invitation for Sam to join him was still open. Sam appreciated Jason's consideration, but she insisted on staying in Port Charles. 9/16 Carly went to the penthouse to talk to Jason, but Sam explained that Jason had flown to Rome to help Brenda. Carly was livid. Carly insisted that Michael needed Jason, as did Carly. Carly demanded to know when Jason would be back, but Sam didn't know. Carly complained that Jason was not put on earth to take care of Brenda. Sam suggested that Jason might have felt obligated to help Brenda because they had been married once. According to Carly, Carly and her children were Jason's first priority and Carly refused to share that with Brenda. Sam guided Carly to the sofa and then invited her to sit down. Sam was curious if Carly thought that Jason had feelings for Brenda. "Not the way that you think," Carly assured Sam. Carly was confident that Jason saw through Brenda's act and that he was not into someone who was high maintenance. However, Carly acknowledged that Jason had felt compelled to help Brenda. Before Carly could elaborate, someone knocked on the door. It was Michael. Michael was looking for Jason. Carly and Sam revealed that Jason wasn't there. Carly wondered if she could have a moment alone with Michael. Jason arrived in Rome. Suzanne Stanwyck introduced herself, but it was clear that Jason was not what she had expected. She couldn't believe that he was Brenda's ex-husband. Jason tried to get to the bottom of what was going on with Brenda, but Suzanne refused to answer his questions until she had more background information on Jason's relationship with Brenda. Suzanne was curious how Jason and Brenda had ended up married. Jason explained that he had been Brenda's only option. "Meaning?" Suzanne probed. "She had no other options," Jason replied. Suzanne was frustrated by Jason's lack of cooperation. Jason finally relented by volunteering that Brenda had feared that she might be sick. Brenda had needed someone to make legal decisions for her if her illness became too bad. Jason explained that the other two men in Brenda's life had been married, so Jason had been the only person available. "So you're not in love with her?" Suzanne asked. Jason made it clear that he and Brenda did not get along, but he was determined to protect her. Suzanne appreciated his honesty. She confessed it had been impossible to protect Brenda. Jason knew that Brenda hated bodyguards, so he realized that it had been a challenge for Suzanne to keep Brenda safe. Suzanne thought that it was generous of Jason to offer to protect Brenda, but she questioned if perhaps Jason suffered from a savior complex. Jason explained that Brenda meant a lot to several people close to Jason. Suzanne acknowledged that Brenda had a gift for inspiring people to care about her. Jason insisted that he didn't need to care about Brenda. Suzanne chuckled; he was the exception to the rule because most men found Brenda compelling and impossible to leave. During a photo shoot, Brenda wore a stunning silver gown as Gilles prepared to snap photos of her. Gilles made idle conversation with her by asking if Brenda had ever been married. Brenda recalled her wedding to Jason. She smiled as she admitted that she had been married once. Gilles was curious what the best part of marriage had been. "Getting divorced," Brenda laughingly answered. As the photo shoot progressed, Gilled continued to ask Brenda questions about her past. Brenda became lost in thoughts about how each of her weddings to Sonny and Jax had ended before they had a chance to exchange vows. Brenda became emotionally upset as she recalled the heartbreak of Sonny leaving her at the altar. Gilles sensed that Brenda was troubled. Brenda asked for a break, so that she could compose herself. A short time later, Brenda arrived at her suite in a foul mood. Brenda demanded to know why Suzanne hadn't warned her that it would be a photo shoot for wedding dresses. Suzanne admitted that she hadn't known, but she was relieved that Brenda had opted to fulfill her obligations to Cartullo. Brenda informed Suzanne that she expected Cartullo to pay all of the necessary costs for the trip to promote Brenda's pet charity. Suzanne warned Brenda that it might not happen because it wasn't worth risking Brenda's life. Brenda explained that she had done the photo shoot to satisfy Cartullo. Brenda hated modeling because it was a mindless and pointless occupation, but she did it because Suzanne had insisted that Brenda's fame would shine the spotlight on the Allegiance to Save Exploited Children. Suzanne acknowledged she had told Brenda that, but Suzanne argued that it had become too dangerous. Brenda was furious because her ineffectual security team had not done their job. As Brenda ranted, Jason stood in the hallway eavesdropping on Brenda and Suzanne's conversation. Brenda angrily demanded that Suzanne find someone who could provide adequate security because Brenda intended to travel on behalf of ASEC. Moments later, Jason knocked on the door. Brenda marched to the door to open it despite Suzanne's protests. Brenda immediately tried to slam the door shut when she saw Jason standing on the doorstep. Jason pushed his way into Brenda's suite. Suzanne quickly excused herself and then left. Jason informed Brenda that her security was lacking because it had taken him less than ten minutes to gain access to her room. Brenda didn't care because Jason was just a hired killer. Jason reminded Brenda that the men trying to get to her were also professional killers. He wondered if Brenda wanted to die. Brenda argued that Suzanne had exaggerated matters. She reminded Jason that it had been eight years since they had seen each other, so she demanded to know what he was doing there. Brenda worried that Sonny had sent him. She was stunned when Jason admitted that Sonny had no idea that he was in Rome. 9/17 Brenda accused Jason of lying when he told her Sonny had not sent him. Jason informed Brenda that the charges against Sonny had been dropped and that Sonny hadn't even mentioned Brenda to him. Jason wanted to focus on beefing up security for Brenda, but she wanted to know if Sonny had been seeing anyone. Jason reported that Sonny was dating a woman but that it didn't appear to be serious. Jason admitted that it had been Suzanne who had informed him that Brenda was in danger. Brenda got angry that Suzanne was, in Brenda's opinion, overreacting. Brenda and Jason argued over whether or not he would protect her. As Spinelli entered Jason's penthouse, he received a call from Jason. Carly demanded to talk to Jason, but Jason told Spinelli to make Carly wait. Brenda tore the phone from Jason's ear at the same time Carly yanked Spinelli's phone from him. Carly and Brenda got into it over the phone until Jason took his phone back. Carly whined to him about Michael having almost gotten expelled from school. Michael snatched the phone from Carly and explained that he had gotten into a fight but that it had been no big deal. He gave the phone back to Spinelli. Jason directed Spinelli to dig up any and all information on the Balkan. After Carly and Michael left, Spinelli set about to discover what he could about the crime figure. Dante arrived and asked for Jason because they needed to discuss Michael. As Spinelli explained that Carly and Michael had already informed Jason of the incident at school, Dante noticed that Spinelli had been researching the Balkan. Dante threatened to arrest Spinelli if Spinelli didn't tell Dante everything he knew about the criminal. Spinelli replied that he didn't know as much, apparently, as Dante did. Brenda asked who Spinelli was? Jason explained that Spinelli was a hacker who could access information that Interpol was unlikely to share. Jason asked if Brenda had any idea why the Balkan would want to harm her. She explained that the work she was doing to end child slavery was a threat to the Balkan's criminal empire. Jason said there had to be more to it than that and demanded to know what Brenda had done to raise the ire of such a powerful figure. Brenda was angered by the accusation but agreed to let Jason be her bodyguard. She told him he needed a tux, because they were going to a gala. 9/20 Brenda and Jason bickered in her hotel suite. He wanted her to stay home from a Cartullo gala, but she insisted that she had to go. Brenda said that her work with the charity was important, and she had to go to those events to promote it. Jason told Brenda that she had not changed because she still made everything about herself and her own importance. Brenda was hurt, but covered it with sarcasm and bravado about her safety. Suzanne interrupted them and wanted to know why Brenda was not ready. Jason said they had to cancel, but Suzanne said that they had taken his advice and upgraded security for the event. He left to check out the new arrangements. Brenda noted that Suzanne was wearing a white dress instead of her usual black. Brenda wanted to know if Suzanne was trying to impress Jason by looking more feminine. Brenda advised Suzanne not to fall for Jason because he killed people. Suzanne told Brenda that she like dangerous men. When she called Jason "cuddly," and said that his ideas for security were very impressive, Brenda got snarky. Suzanne told Brenda that she sounded jealous. She also told Brenda that it was refreshing to see a man who did not fawn at Brenda's feet. Jason returned and told Suzanne and Brenda that security was still not tight enough to guarantee Brenda's safety. Both Brenda and Suzanne insisted that Brenda had to attend. Suzanne explained that Brenda's celebrity was what gave them power to stop abuse of children. She said that because Brenda had gotten so much publicity when she visited a mine that was worked by child slave labor, the mine had been shut down, which was a major victory. Suzanne said that Brenda had to attend because it would be their last chance of the season to secure donations and support. Brenda told Jason that he would have to be her escort and wear a tux, but he resisted and said he would watch from the sidelines. Suzanne stepped in and explained that the other attackers had appeared suddenly and if that happened again, he would not be able to reach her in time. Jason reluctantly agreed to wear a tux. 9/21 In Rome, Brenda warmly welcomed Ernesto as the paparazi continued to snap pictures of Brenda and Jason. Brenda introduced Ernesto Cartullo to Jason and then explained to Ernesto that Jason was her ex-husband. Ernesto extended his hand to Jason as he wondered how Jason had managed to let an angel like Brenda get away. Jason ignored Ernesto's question and hand until Brenda ordered Jason to be polite. Jason shook Ernesto's hand and then insisted that they had to get Brenda inside because Ernesto's security team was lacking. Brenda quickly tried to downplay Jason's assessment of Ernesto's security force, but Jason ignored her as he hustled Brenda away from the paparazzi. Later, Brenda and Jason returned to Brenda's hotel suite where she proceeded to berate Jason for being rude to Ernesto. Jason was unapologetic for letting Ernesto know that Cartullo's security team was ineffective. Brenda was also furious that Jason hadn't made any effort to be sociable during the event. Jason was curious why Brenda had continually introduced him as her ex-husband. Brenda explained that everyone at the party was likely on the computer, as they spoke, trying to find out everything that they could about Jason, so she had decided to put it out there first. Brenda announced that she was headed to bed because she was exhausted. She was stunned when Jason made it clear that he would remain in the suite to guard her. Brenda didn't think that it was necessary, but Jason refused to budge. Brenda left the room to fetch a pillow and blanket, which she deposited on the sofa. Brenda let Jason know that was called having good manners. After Brenda went to bed, Jason checked the locks on the door and patio and then pulled out his gun. He sat down on the sofa and had just closed his eyes when he heard Brenda cry out. Moments later, Brenda and Jason emerged from the bedroom. As Brenda curled up on the sofa, Jason sat in a nearby chair. He was curious if Brenda had suffered nightmares often. Brenda admitted that she rarely had them, especially when she was focused on her work for the Alliance to Save Exploited Children. However, she acknowledged that the bad dreams tended to plague her when she had a photo shoot. Jason could see how hard it was on Brenda, which surprised her. Brenda decided to change the subject by asking if Jason recalled the last time that he had worn a tuxedo and escorted her to an event. Jason was certain that it had never happened before. Brenda burst out laughing as she reminded him of their high school senior prom when he had been in love with Karen Wexler and Brenda had been in love with Jagger Cates. Brenda chuckled as she recalled how she and Jason had felt like a couple of outcasts. Jason was glad that he didn't remember the prom. Brenda dropped the subject and then asked if Jason had ever visited Greece. Jason quietly confessed that he had gone there once on his way to Egypt. Brenda was curious which part of Greece he had seen. Jason revealed that he had gone to Kythnos. Jason had enjoyed the small island because it hadn't been a tourist spot. He confessed that it reminded him a bit of Italy. Brenda revealed that it helped her to hear him talking because it made her sleepy. Jason decided to continue telling her about his thoughts of Kythnos, particularly the beaches. As he spoke, Brenda fell asleep. Jason quietly rose, turned off the light, and then returned to his chair. Jason appeared to be deep in thought as he watched Brenda sleep. 9/22 In Rome, Jason entered Brenda's suite to discover that Brenda had gone to a meeting at Cartullo. Suzanne assured Jason that Cartullo's security team had escorted Brenda, but Jason wasn't satisfied. Suzanne promised Jason that Brenda was her friend, so she had every reason to want Brenda to be safe. Jason didn't think that it mattered because Brenda might end up dead. Suzanne could sense how irritated Jason was; he blamed it on Brenda because Brenda was an annoying person. Suzanne was surprised that Jason was not smitten with Brenda like every other man. Jason ignored the comment. He was frustrated because Cartullo's security team was more suited to deal with crowd control rather than the type of people who worked for the Balkan. Suzanne thought that it was a good thing then that Jason was Brenda's bodyguard. She handed Jason a magazine that featured a front-page picture of Jason and Brenda at the gala. Jason couldn't understand why anyone would care about who Brenda was dating. Suzanne explained that Brenda had been considered Murphy's girlfriend until recently, so Brenda suddenly appearing on the arm of her ex-husband had piqued the public's interest. Jason wondered why Suzanne seemed pleased about it. Suzanne admitted that people didn't want to see pictures of needy children because it made them sad. However, the public took notice when their favorite celebrities were photographed visiting areas in need. People tended to be generous if they thought the charity was "cool."
Suzanne explained that Jason's appearance with Brenda at the gala had made Brenda more famous than ever, which translated to more money for the Alliance to Save Exploited Children. Jason was curious what Interpol was doing for Brenda. Suzanne confessed that Interpol seemed more interested in catching the Balkan rather than protecting Brenda. Their conversation was cut short when Murphy knocked on the door. Murphy wanted to have a private word with Jason about Brenda, so Suzanne excused herself. Murphy wondered what was going on between Brenda and Jason. Jason explained that he just wanted to keep Brenda safe. Murphy was curious if there were more to Jason's relationship with Brenda. Jason quickly clarified that he and Brenda were not a couple. According to Jason, he and Brenda had gotten married for a stupid reason and then quickly divorced. Murphy revealed that Brenda had unresolved feelings about someone from her past, which had led her to end their engagement. Jason denied that he was the man that Brenda still cared about. Murphy didn't believe Jason, but he wanted Jason to appreciate the second chance that he had been given with Brenda. At Jason's penthouse, Spinelli quickly closed his laptop when he spotted Sam entering the living room. Sam was curious what Spinelli had been trying to hide. Spinelli lied as he insisted that it was highly sensitive work-related material. Sam saw through Spinelli's lie, so she continued to question him about what he didn't want her to see. Spinelli tried to change the subject by suggesting that he pop into the kitchen to grab a snack. Sam snatched up the laptop the moment that Spinelli stepped way. Spinelli leapt to stop her from opening it, but Sam made it clear that she was determined to know what he had been hiding from her. Spinelli gave in to Sam's demands by opening the laptop. Sam stared at the picture of Jason and Brenda on the red carpet. Spinelli realized that it was a dagger to her heart, but he reminded her that any hero would rush to Brenda's rescue. Sam suggested that Spinelli look at the picture objectively instead of through the eyes of his infatuation with Brenda. Sam pointed out that Jason hated tuxedos and the paparazzi. Sam was certain that Jason had been miserable when the picture had been taken. Spinelli wasn't completely convinced; he was certain that Brenda has a strong influence on Jason. Sam insisted that the picture didn't bother her because it had merely been a photo opportunity. The argument was cut short when Carly dropped by to find out if Jason were on his way home. Spinelli explained that Brenda still required Jason's assistance, so Jason would remain in Italy. Carly was not pleased. She couldn't imagine what kind of "self-made drama" Brenda had gotten herself into and why Murphy and Murphy's bodyguards couldn't help. Spinelli revealed that Brenda had been targeted by sinister forces that only Jason could deal with. Carly thought that Spinelli needed a reality check because Brenda was just a needy and selfish person. Sam explained that Jason had felt obligated to help Brenda, while Spinelli argued that Brenda was grateful for Jason's help. Spinelli decided to show Carly the picture of Jason and Brenda to drive his point home. Sam entered Jax's office after she received a message from him that he had wanted to talk to her. Jax showed Sam the picture of Brenda and Jason. Sam revealed that she had already seen the picture. Jax was curious what Sam knew about the picture and why Jason was in Rome with Brenda. Sam explained that Brenda was in trouble and that Jason had been listed as the person to contact in case of an emergency. Jax wondered if Sonny's recent visit to Rome had anything to do with the trouble that Brenda was in. Sam would only reveal that the director of A.S.E.C. had contacted Jason. Jax confessed that, judging by the picture, it was hard for him to believe that Brenda was in dire straights. Sam shrugged and then suggested that Jax should ask himself why Brenda's business mattered to him. She admitted that if she were Carly, she would want to know. Jax claimed that Jason's trip to see Brenda had seemed to happen out of nowhere. Sam suggested that perhaps Jax should call Brenda to find out what was going on. When Jax didn't respond, Sam realized that Jax was upset that he hadn't been the one that had been called to save Brenda. Carly entered the office in time to hear Sam's comment. "Wrong," Carly clarified. Carly insisted that she and Jax had worked things out, so he didn't care about Brenda. "Do you Jax?" Carly asked her husband. 9/23 At Jax's office, Jax explained to Carly that he had learned that Jason had escorted Brenda to an event the previous evening. He had been curious about it, so he had asked Sam to stop by. Carly let Jax know that she had been aware of Jason's trip to Italy. Carly grumbled that Brenda had dragged Jason into a situation, of Brenda's own making, that evidently Murphy couldn't handle. Sam insisted that it wasn't a big deal; she was confident that Jason was not buying into all of Brenda's drama. Carly agreed with Sam's assessment, but it bothered Carly that Brenda had called Jason when she had plenty of other men at her disposal to help. Sam pointed out that Jason would have returned home if there hadn't been a problem, so clearly things were not okay with Brenda. In Rome, Brenda was livid when she entered her suite to find Jason and Murphy talking about her. Murphy quickly took responsibility for the meeting; he claimed that he had wanted to meet his rival. Brenda clarified that Jason wasn't the man that she had unresolved feelings about, but Murphy didn't believe her. Murphy was certain that Brenda's ex-husband was the reason that she had broken off their engagement. Brenda continued to deny it, so Murphy demanded to know who Brenda was in love with. Brenda assured Murphy that it didn't matter because she didn't have any intention of seeing that man again. Brenda reminded Murphy that it would never have worked for them because she could never make Murphy happy. Murphy disagreed; she had made him happy. However, Murphy accepted Brenda's decision, so he asked Jason to take care of Brenda and then left. Brenda acknowledged that Murphy was an amazing man, but he didn't make her happy. Jason suspected that it was because of Sonny. Brenda admitted that she never had the same deep feelings for Murphy that she'd had for Sonny. She was certain that she would have left Murphy one day, one way or another, so she had decided to spare him the pain of that because she knew how deeply it hurt. Moments later Suzanne arrived. Suzanne was upset because the picture of Brenda and Jason had been causing quite a sensation on the Internet. According to Suzanne, people thought that Brenda and Jason were dating. Brenda didn't see the problem, so Suzanne explained that they couldn't have the world thinking that Brenda was dating a hit man while trying to save exploited children. Suzanne had no idea that Jason had been tried for murder and that he had recently been released from prison. Brenda was surprised to hear that Jason had been in jail. Brenda wondered why Jason hadn't mentioned it. "Because I'm out," Jason answered. Brenda was curious what he had been convicted of, but Jason didn't want to discuss it. He simply explained that the charges had been dropped. Suzanne explained that the children that they were trying to help were often exploited by crime syndicates, so they couldn't have Brenda running around with a professional criminal. Brenda insisted that Jason wasn't a professional criminal; he was a bodyguard who would kill anyone who hurt a child. Suzanne worried that they would spend so much time explaining Jason that it would take them off-message. Suzanne confessed that she would never have called Jason if she had known about his life. Brenda pointed out that Jason had been listed as an emergency contact, so it hadn't been up to Suzanne. Brenda insisted that she intended to move forward with her travel plans for the charity and that Jason would head her security team. Suzanne made it clear that Jason was no longer an option. After Suzanne left, Jason acknowledged that Brenda's work to save exploited children was important, but he wanted Brenda to be careful. Jason confided that he didn't think that the Balkan was trying to kill her. Jason suspected that the Balkan wanted to kidnap Brenda, but he didn't know why. Brenda implored Jason to pass along a message if Sonny asked about her. Brenda wanted Sonny to know that her life was great. "It's not," Jason argued. Brenda insisted that he tell Sonny that anyway. She also wanted Sonny to know that her work with the children was important and gave her life purpose. Brenda insisted that Sonny needed to know, so that he could go on without her. Jason would only promise to tell Sonny "something," but he wouldn't lie. Brenda was annoyed, but she didn't argue. Jason reminded her that she had all of his numbers, so she was to call if she needed him. Brenda thanked Jason for helping her. They exchanged goodbyes and then Jason left. Brenda wandered to the patio as she recalled a time that she and Sonny had been driving. Sonny had suddenly stopped the car and then reached over to pull Brenda close for a passionate kiss. Brenda snapped back to the present when she heard her door rattle as someone tried to break into her suite. Michael went to Jason's penthouse to see if Jason had returned from Italy. Sam explained that Brenda was obviously a handful, so Jason remained in Rome. Michael apologized for bothering Sam and then started to leave, but Sam stopped him. Sam wanted to talk to Michael about something, so she invited him inside. Michael was startled when Sam revealed that Jason had been behaving differently ever since he had returned from Pentonville. Michael looked uncomfortable as Sam confided that she hoped to help Jason, if she could figure out what had happened to him in jail. Michael didn't know how he could help her. Sam explained that Michael had been in jail with Jason, so he must have seen something. Sam didn't want Jason walking around in so much pain. She wondered if she should try to get Jason to talk to her or just pretend that everything was fine when it wasn't. Michael suggested that Sam respect Jason's wishes. Sam realized that Michael was right. Moments later, Sonny dropped by to see if there had been any word from Jason. Sonny and Michael were pleasantly surprised to see each other, so Sam excused herself to give Michael some time alone with his father. 9/24 After Jason left Brenda's villa, two men burst through her door and grabbed her. They told her they wanted answers. Brenda was defiant, so one of the men injected her with heroin. As Jason was driven to the airport, he received a call from Suzanne, who was worried, because Brenda had missed two appointments and was not answering her phone. Jason told the driver to turn around. A bound Brenda, woozy from the drug, still refused to answer her captors' questions. Jason broke through the door and shot each man. He demanded to know what the Balkan wanted from Brenda, but it was too late. Both men were dead. Suzanne walked in and was shocked by the scene. She called the doctor and told him that there had been an unintentional overdose. Jason wanted to take Brenda to the hospital, but Suzanne explained that they needed to protect Brenda's privacy. After the doctor left, Jason returned to the suite after having conferred with Agent Bates of Interpol. Bates had confirmed that the two men who attacked Brenda had been working for the Balkan. Jason made clear to Suzanne that the Balkan would have killed Brenda had he just wanted to stop the work of ASEC. She had something the Balkan wanted, Jason argued. Brenda regained consciousness, and Jason asked what she remembered. Brenda recalled that the men who Jason had killed were the same men who'd tried to abduct her when Sonny had been in town. Jason assured her that Suzanne would keep the incident out of the media. She noted that Suzanne really cared about her. Brenda replied that Jason did too. 9/27 In Rome, Jason sat with Brenda as she overcame to effects of the heroin with which she had been forcibly injected. She wanted to know all about Sonny. She asked about Carly's relationship with Sonny. Jason told her that divorce was best for both of them. Brenda wanted to know if Sonny talked about her to Jason. At first Jason said no, but then relented and told Brenda that Sonny had once said that he would die remembering Brenda's face. Brenda was touched and asked Jason if he thought that she and Sonny could have made it if Sonny had tried harder. Reluctantly, Jason told her that it seemed to him that she and Sonny did not make each other happy for very long. Brenda was quiet when Jason told her that her life was in serious danger and that he was taking her back to Port Charles to ensure her safety. 9/28 In Rome, Jason tried to persuade Brenda to return to the United States with him because he believed that he could protect her better in Port Charles. Brenda strongly objected to the idea of going to Port Charles. Jason realized that Brenda was afraid to face Sonny. Brenda clarified that it was more than fear; Sonny was like an addiction to her, so she was determined to avoid him at all costs. Jason wondered if avoiding Sonny was more important than staying alive. Brenda couldn't believe that Port Charles was the safest place for her. Jason explained that he was familiar with Port Charles, so he could be much more effective as a bodyguard on familiar ground. Jason also reminded Brenda that he had a life in Port Charles that he wanted to get back to. Jason was certain that Brenda knew what the Balkan was looking for, but Brenda denied it. Jason let the matter drop to focus on convincing Brenda to cooperate. Jason explained that he would have more resources at his disposal to track the Balkan in Port Charles. Brenda suggested that Jason didn't really want her to go back to Port Charles. She reminded him that he had married her to keep her from breaking up Sonny and Carly's marriage. Jason reminded Brenda that Carly was married to Jax. Brenda wondered if Jason had a change of heart and now thought that Brenda was good for Sonny. Jason didn't think that it mattered. He told her that she could choose to do what she wanted with Sonny, but he was determined to make sure that she returned to Port Charles. Brenda refused to put herself in that position again. She cried that her heart wasn't safe in Port Charles. Jason didn't care about her heart because he was trying to keep her alive. Brenda argued that she couldn't be around the people that she loved because she didn't want them to have the power to hurt her. Jason promised that Brenda could go abroad once he killed the Balkan, but that wasn't enough for Brenda. Jason made it clear that Brenda didn't have a choice. Defeated, Brenda wondered if perhaps she should call Sonny. Jason let her know that it was up to her. Brenda confessed that she didn't want to resort to her old behavior or to hurt anyone. 9/29 Carly went to Sam's apartment to find out if Sam had heard from Jason. Carly was annoyed because Jason and Sam hadn't returned any of her calls. Sam explained that she had been working, but she admitted that Jason had called her to let her know that he would be returning home. Carly's joy was short-lived when Sam added that Brenda was in real trouble and that Jason wasn't certain when he would be back in Port Charles. Carly couldn't understand why Sam hadn't flown to Rome to fight for Jason. According to Carly, Jason was the best thing that had ever happened to Sam. "Don't you mean the best thing that's ever happened to you?" Sam shot back. Sam assured Carly that she wasn't threatened by Brenda like Carly was. Sam trusted Jason, so she suggested that Carly do the same. Carly insisted that there was a weird bond between Brenda and Jason, despite Jason's claims that Brenda drove him crazy. Carly reminded Sam that Jason had dropped everything to fly to Rome to help Brenda. Sam suggested that Carly had her "panties in a twist" because Carly and Brenda shared the same place in Jason's life; they were high-maintenance women whom Jason felt compelled to help. Carly resented Sam comparing her to Brenda. Sam strolled to the front door and then held it open for Carly. Carly marched out without another word. After Carly left, Molly stopped by to visit her sister. Molly explained that Alexis had dropped her off with the understanding that Sam would drive Molly home. Sam invited Molly to join her for dinner, but Molly had already eaten. However, Molly was eager to talk about Sonny. Molly revealed that she had dropped off Kristina's senior pictures at Sonny's house because Kristina had been reluctant to give the appearance that she cared too much. Molly had been stunned to find Claire with Sonny. Molly was certain that Kristina would be furious to learn that Sonny was dating the woman who had put Michael in jail. Sam confessed that she wasn't surprised that Sonny was seeing Claire, but she pointed out that Claire had tried to help Michael. Molly didn't think that it would matter because Kristina would use Sonny's relationship with Claire as another excuse to hate him. Sam wasn't a fan of Claire's, but she thought that Kristina should realize that she only had one father. "So she should smile and make nice?" Molly wondered. Sam suggested that Molly and Kristina should accept and understand that no one was perfect, even their loved ones. 9/30 Maxie arrived at Sam's apartment with several couture outfits for Sam to select from. Sam was embarrassed to admit that she wanted to find something glamorous to wear for Jason because he was returning to Port Charles with Brenda. Maxie was surprised to hear that Brenda would be staying with Jason. Sam explained that Brenda was in danger, so she needed to lay low for a while. Maxie assured Sam that there wasn't anything wrong with wanting to look good when an ex-girlfriend was around. Sam insisted that she wasn't insecure. Maxie was saddened when she realized that Robin would be thrilled to know that Brenda was on her way to town. Sam immediately noticed that something was troubling Maxie. Maxie revealed that Robin was missing and that Mac was searching for her; however, Mac had not kept Maxie in the loop. Sam offered to find something in her own closet to wear if Maxie needed to leave, but Maxie insisted that it helped to stay busy. Sam felt silly for worrying about what to wear because Jason wasn't the type to pay attention to things like clothes. Maxie argued that they were choosing an outfit for Sam to make her feel pretty and confident. Sam agreed. Later, Maxie found an outfit that she thought would look great on Sam. Sam hesitated, but Maxie argued that it would be nice if Sam didn't always look like she was about to head to a shoot-out. After Maxie left, Sam made some phone calls to see if she could get a lead on Robin. Molly stopped by to beg her sister for a huge favor; she wanted Sam to invite her to Jason's penthouse while Brenda was there. Sam was stunned as Molly expressed admiration for the work that Brenda did for the Alliance to Save Exploited Children. Molly also admitted that it was cool that Brenda had been dating Murphy Sinclair. Sam smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. On the plane, Brenda dreamed that she and Jason had bumped into Sonny on the docks. Jason stood back, so that Brenda and Sonny could have a private reunion. Brenda's joy quickly turned to horror when two shots rang out and then blood spread across Sonny's shirt. Brenda began to scream as Jason pulled Brenda away from Sonny. Brenda woke up from the nightmare, calling out Sonny's name. Jason assured Brenda that it had just been a dream; he promised her that she was okay. Brenda was grumpy as she admitted that she'd rather go anywhere except Port Charles. She also resented how everyone, including those on the plane, stared at her. Jason thought that she would be used to it because of her work with A.S.E.C. Brenda admitted that she'd rather crash and drown than go to Port Charles. However, she acknowledged that with her luck, she'd end up stranded on a deserted island with Jason. Jason wondered if Brenda would like a drink. "Yes," Brenda admitted gratefully. Jason signaled to the flight attendant just as they hit some turbulence. A short time later, Brenda and Jason arrived at the penthouse. Brenda was eager to get inside, so she demanded that Jason hand over the key. Spinelli threw open the door before Jason could dig the key out of his pocket. Spinelli invited Brenda inside and then started babbling. Brenda quickly realized that Spinelli was the "computer guy." Spinelli was delighted when she recalled speaking to him on the phone and remembered his name. Brenda extended her hand, which Spinelli held and then gazed at with awe. Jason explained that Spinelli was staying in Brenda's room, so she would have to take the guest room. Spinelli quickly objected; he had restored Brenda's room to its original state, so he insisted that she take it back. Brenda was impressed when Spinelli offered refreshments: coffee and biscotti. She invited Spinelli to join her on the sofa, so that they could chat. Brenda was flattered when Spinelli referred to her as "the Divine One," but she preferred to be called Brenda. Later, Michael stopped by to see if Jason had returned. Jason explained that he had been about to call Michael because he had heard that Michael had encountered some trouble at school. Michael confessed that if it hadn't been for Dante, he would have been kicked out of Madison Prep on his first day. Michael believed that Jason was the only person who could understand what Michael was going through. Michael revealed that everyone was eager to help him, including Sam, who had expressed concern about Jason in an effort to get Michael to open up. Jason offered to listen if Michael needed to talk, but before Michael could find the words, Brenda entered the living room. Brenda greeted Michael and then asked Jason, "Who's this?" Brenda realized that it was Michael. She was amazed by how much Michael had grown; he had been a baby the last time that she had seen him, but she remembered that he had been obsessed with the Yankees. Michael smiled as he admitted that he was still a Yankees fan. Jason explained that he and Michael had been in the middle of something, but Michael assured Jason that it was okay. Brenda and Michael talked about school and then Josslyn. Brenda was curious how old Josslyn was and when she had been born. Michael became silent and then quickly excused himself. Brenda turned to Jason to find out what she had said to upset Michael. She was speechless as Jason explained the circumstances of Josslyn's birth and that Michael had only recently been released from prison for killing Claudia. Jason warned her that Michael was going through hell, so he wanted Brenda to be careful. Later, Brenda was having a snack in the living room when Sam let herself into the penthouse. "Brenda?" Sam asked. "Yeah, sorry, who are you?" Brenda wondered. Jason stood on the staircase, looking a bit uncomfortable. 10/1 Sam entered Jason's living room and, in an awkward encounter, met Brenda. Sam got to see another side of Jason as he got flustered arguing with Brenda. Sam commented that it was funny to witness him in such a state. Brenda and Sam sat and got to know each other. Sam uncomfortably shared her past with Jax and Sonny. Brenda reacted with discomfort, since she also had a past with both men. Brenda offered to stay elsewhere, because she didn't want Sam to feel uncomfortable. Sam insisted that it wasn't a problem and asked Brenda to stay. After Sam left, Brenda berated Jason for not having told her anything about his life. The two continued to spar until Brenda announced that she had to go see Sonny. Spinelli returned home to witness Jason and Brenda sniping at one another, as Brenda left the penthouse to meet bodyguards downstairs. Sam returned, and Jason asked Spinelli to leave them alone. Sam announced that she thought she and Jason should break up. Sam walked in and sat with Maxie. Sam complained that her meeting with Brenda had not been horrible. On the contrary, Brenda was kind. Sam was frustrated because she felt as if she'd made an ass of herself to Brenda. Under other circumstances, Sam surmised, she might actually like Brenda. Sam was frustrated by the chemistry between Jason and Brenda. Maxie offered to hate Brenda for Sam. According to Maxie, Spinelli thought that "God made Brenda magnificent and then got bored." Sam lamented that she'd allowed herself to become insecure and vowed to do something about it. 10/4 At his penthouse, Jason refused to let Sam break up with him. He told her that he loved her and had no interest in Brenda. Sam said that she was being insecure. Jason told Sam that she was the one he loved and the one that he wanted to be with. Sam apologized for being needy and said that she liked things the way they were and did not want to change. She said that she like being in her apartment some of the time, and that with Brenda staying in the penthouse, Jason would want to go to Sam's when Brenda started driving him crazy. Jason laughed when he said, "Starts?" Then he asked Sam if she noticed how quiet it was with Brenda gone and Spinelli out running errands to get all Brenda's organic products. They snuggled and started kissing. Just as they were about to go upstairs, someone knocked in the door. It was Michael. He said that he had to talk to Jason. Sam excused herself. When they were alone, Michael told Jason about Ali. He said that he really liked her and did not want to disappoint her. He said that girls expected guys to sleep with them, and he did not want to be clumsy about sex the first time he was with a girl he liked. Michael asked Jason to get him someone who could teach him about sex. 10/5 At Jason's penthouse, Sam eavesdropped on Jason and Michael's conversation. Jason was stunned by Michael's request to hire an escort. Michael believed that a professional could help him gain sexual experience, so that he wouldn't mess things up with Ali. Jason didn't understand why Michael couldn't take things slowly by getting to know Ali. "You know why," Michael reminded Jason. Michael insisted that Pentonville had damaged him, so he couldn't trust himself to be with someone like Ali without fear of hurting her. Jason thought that Michael should give it a chance before turning to a call girl, but Michael disagreed. Michael argued that he wasn't normal and that no one could understand what he had gone through in Pentonville. Jason suggested that Michael's protective instincts towards Ali indicated that Michael would be careful around her. Jason conceded that the first time with a girl was scary for any guy. Michael insisted that he would feel more comfortable if he were with a woman that he didn't have feelings for because then he wouldn't feel bad if he hurt her. Jason didn't think that calling some random escort was the answer. Michael threatened to find a prostitute on his own if Jason didn't help him. Before Jason could respond, Sam entered the living room. Sam apologized to Michael as she explained that she needed to have a private word with Jason. Michael agreed to leave, but Jason wanted Michael to promise not to do anything until they had finished their conversation. Michael agreed and then left. Sam immediately admitted that she had overheard Jason's talk with Michael. She was certain that she had a way to help Michael. Jason didn't think that a call girl would help Michael, but Sam disagreed. Jason doubted that a professional would erase what had happened to Michael in jail. Sam pointed out that Michael wasn't ready to talk to a therapist, so an experienced woman who knew how to be gentle and caring was better for Michael than a young girl who would be just as nervous as Michael. Sam urged Jason to help Michael, but Jason remained reluctant. Sam revealed that she knew the perfect girl. Sam explained that she had worked undercover with a young woman named Candy, who was trying to put herself through college. Sam assured Jason that Candy was beautiful and understanding. Jason was certain that it was a bad idea. Shortly after Sam left, Brenda arrived home. Jason made it clear that he wasn't in the mood to deal with Brenda's problems. Brenda ignored Jason as she told him about her visit to Greystone Manor to see Sonny. She was desperate for Jason to help her stay away from Sonny. Jason explained that he had more important things to deal with. Brenda reminded him that the only reason that she was in Port Charles was because Jason had talked her into it. She begged him, as a friend, to keep her from blowing her life apart. Jason realized that Brenda was genuinely upset, so he apologized for snapping at her. Brenda admitted that she should be able to stay away from Sonny without Jason's help. Jason assured her that Sonny wasn't trying to hurt her. Brenda realized that, but she was certain that if she stayed in Port Charles that she'd end up being destroyed. Brenda implored Jason to get the situation with the Balkan resolved as soon as possible, so that she could return to Rome. Sam asked Michael to meet her at a hotel room. Sam invited Michael into the room and then explained that she had overheard his discussion with Jason, so she knew about his problem. Michael immediately became uncomfortable. Michael reminded her that it wasn't any of her business. Sam realized that, but she had heard what Michael had threatened to do if Jason didn't help. Michael's discomfort grew when Sam invited Michael to join her on the sofa. Sam immediately realized that Michael thought that she was offering herself. She quickly clarified that she had a friend named Candy who could help Michael. Sam confessed that she had told Candy about Michael's situation and that Candy was willing to meet with him. Michael seemed to have reservations about it, but Sam assured him that everything would be fine. A short time later, Candy arrived. Michael was nervous, so Sam offered to send Candy home. Michael was determined to see things through, so he declined. Sam opened the door, introduced Candy to Michael, and then left. Candy acknowledged that it was an awkward situation, so she suggested that they take some time to talk and get to know each other. Michael started to relax as Candy revealed that her real name was Abigail.
In the office at Pozzulo's, Suzanne informed Jason that she didn't think that the Balkan would give up on Brenda. She was certain that he would follow Brenda to Port Charles. Jason confessed that he hoped the Balkan showed up in Port Charles because it would put the crime lord at a disadvantage. Suzanne wondered what would stop the Balkan from going after Brenda on her next trip. Jason made it clear that Brenda would not be traveling until the Balkan had been dealt with. Suzanne argued that it was unreasonable to expect Brenda not to travel, because she had commitments to fulfill for Cartullo. Jason insisted that all of Brenda's trips would be suspended until it was safe for Brenda to travel. Suzanne doubted that Brenda would go along with those plans. Sam entered the office seconds later. Jason introduced Suzanne to Sam. Suzanne smiled politely and then explained that she needed a few more minutes alone with Jason to discuss Brenda's security. Sam realized that Suzanne had been the one to call Jason to help Brenda. Sam was curious why Suzanne hadn't been able to provide adequate protection for Brenda. 10/6 Sam informed Suzanne that just because Jason had been married to Brenda, for a few months a long time before, didn't mean that he had to take care of Brenda forever. Sam was curious why Suzanne couldn't provide Brenda with adequate protection. Suzanne explained that Brenda had listed Jason as her next of kin and emergency contact, so Suzanne had merely called Jason to let him know what was going on. Suzanne suggested that perhaps Sam should ask Jason why he had felt compelled to hop on the first plane to Rome and then take over Brenda's life. Sam turned to Jason; she realized that he had a job to do, but she resented Suzanne dismissing her from the office. Suzanne explained to Sam that the Balkan wasn't a simple threat; he was an international crime figure and a killer. Suzanne didn't think that Brenda deserved to die because Sam didn't want to share her boyfriend. Suzanne insisted that Brenda was important for countless children who benefited from the work that the Alliance to Save Exploited Children did. Sam wondered why Suzanne was incapable of keeping Brenda in line. Suzanne confessed that she would love to be able to control Brenda, but Brenda would only listen to Jason. Moments later, Sam's phone rang. Jason immediately realized that something was wrong. Sam explained that it was about Michael, but she refused to elaborate. After Sam left with promises to call Jason, Suzanne commented that it was clear that Michael was someone important to Jason. Jason explained that Michael was his nephew and that he and Michael's parents had made a lot of poor choices for Michael. Suzanne was sympathetic as Jason revealed that Michael had gone to jail for killing someone in self-defense. Suzanne had learned through her work with ASEC that taking a life changed a person. She suggested that the best way to help Michael heal was through time and effort. Later, Suzanne wondered who she had to sleep with to get a drink. Milo offered to fetch Suzanne some wine, but he assured her that she didn't have to sleep with him for it. Suzanne smiled as she explained that she had been joking. As Milo poured Suzanne a glass of white wine, Suzanne questioned Max about Brenda's contact list that Jason had provided. She wasn't happy that it was limited to a few people, but Max explained that he wasn't in a position to do anything about it. Sam went to the hotel room to check on Michael. Michael explained that things hadn't worked out with her friend. Sam was surprised because Abby had given Sam a different impression. Michael revealed that he had blown it with Abby. Sam thought that Michael was exaggerating. Michael didn't think that Sam could possibly understand what he was talking about, so he left. Jason arrived home to find Michael sitting in the hallway. Michael was clearly despondent. Jason assured Michael that he was welcome inside whenever he liked. Michael confessed that he had been hoping to avoid Sam and Brenda. Jason revealed that Brenda was sleeping and that Sam had gone looking for Michael. Jason opened the door and then invited Michael inside. As they sat down on the sofa, Michael revealed that Sam had tried to help him. Michael assured Jason that it had not been her fault that he was a train wreck. Jason was curious what had happened. Michael told Jason about Abby. Michael confessed that he had lost it when Abby tried to take his shirt off; he'd been transported back to the moment in Pentonville when Carter had attacked him. Michael confided that he had been filled with rage, so he had inadvertently hurt Abby when he had pushed her away. Michael was certain that Abby had been freaked out even though she had tried to hide it. "How messed up is it that I can't even be with a girl?" Michael forlornly asked. Jason didn't think that Michael should be so hard on himself. Jason assured Michael that it was normal to be nervous the first time. Michael disagreed; he would never be normal. Michael had tried to follow Jason's advice by giving it some time, but nothing had gotten better. Jason insisted that Michael was a survivor who had been through hell. Michael argued that being a survivor meant that he was alive, not that he was actually living. According to Michael, Ali was a sweet girl, but he couldn't let her see who he really was. Jason suggested that bad things had happened to Michael, but it didn't have to define him. Jason vowed that he would not give up on Michael. 10/8 Sam arrived to return the clothes Maxie had lent her. She explained to Lulu that she had used the new look in an insecure bid for Jason's affections. Lulu commiserated. Sam said that she wished anyone but Jason had rescued Brenda. While Spinelli ran around Jason's penthouse, trying to make the place pretty for Brenda, Jason walked in and told Spinelli to stop fawning all over Brenda. Jason angrily reminded Spinelli that the top priority was to gain information on the Balkan. Spinelli ran out anyway, to get organic produce from the farmer's market before it closed. Carly stormed in and berated Jason for not warning her that he'd convinced Brenda to return to Port Charles. Carly assumed that Brenda wanted to resume a relationship either with Jax or Sonny. Jason made it clear that he was not enjoying Brenda living with him but that it was the only way to keep her safe. He explained to Carly who the Balkan was and that Jason wanted the man to go to Port Charles where he'd be on Jason's turf. Carly shared her concern that Jax might fall back in love with Brenda. Later, Suzanne paid Brenda a visit. They sparred over Brenda's unwillingness to discuss work and Brenda's desire to have a personal life. She needed to face her demons, Brenda elaborated. There was someone she wanted to allow herself to love. After Brenda left, Suzanne complained to Jason that Brenda was on her way to see Sonny.Suzanne worried that Brenda was in love with Sonny and planned to tell him. Jason said he didn't care about what went on between Sonny and Brenda. Suzanne replied that at least she had control over Brenda's career. To that end, Brenda would do a fashion shoot in Paris the following week. Jason replied that it was not feasible. Sam met Spinelli on the waterfront. He appealed to her to help him support Brenda in her time of need. He explained that Brenda's bravado was simply a cover for her delicate sensibilities. Sam shared that she had been insecure for a moment, once Brenda had arrived, but had since reassured herself. Brenda and Jason, Sam declared, could not stand one another. Spinelli left to shop for groceries. Dvd #26B 10/10 At the Crimson offices, Sam and Lulu discussed Brenda and the effect that she was having on the men of Port Charles. Sam said Jason was not bowled over by Brenda, but did feel the need to protect her. Sam admitted that she would be glad when Brenda went back to Rome. Lulu said she was glad that Sonny was the great love of Brenda's life so that Brenda would stay occupied with him. Maxie arrived and was upset that Spinelli was a blubbering mess over Brenda and thought she was the incarnation of Ariel Blaine, superspy, a character from a computer game. Maxie wanted Sam to force Jason to send Brenda back to Rome, but when Sam said that she could not do that because Jason had appointed himself Brenda's guardian, Maxie said that she would take care of it. Suzanne was with Jason at the penthouse. She wanted his help to stop Brenda from getting involved with Sonny again. Jason said that no one could stop Brenda from doing what she wanted to do, especially with Sonny. Susanne said that Brenda listened to Jason more that anyone else, but Jason was not moved. He said that he would protect Brenda from the Balkan, but could not protect her from Sonny. Maxie pounded on the door and demanded that Jason send Brenda back to Rome. She was upset because of Spinelli's impassioned infatuation with Brenda. Maxie said that Brenda was messing with Spinelli's mind. Suzanne sputtered when Maxie called Brenda a "mind-altering bimbo," but Maxie continued to vent and said that Brenda was a bad influence on Spinelli. Jason said that Brenda could not go back to Rome because people were trying to kill her. In a very soft voice to avoid being heard, Maxie muttered, "Yeah, anyone with a man." 10/12 At Jason's penthouse, Carly ranted about Brenda. Carly was certain that Brenda wouldn't be happy until every man was fawning at her feet. Jason argued that Brenda wanted to be with Sonny, but Carly wasn't satisfied. She was certain that Brenda would eventually seduce Jax. Carly continued to complain about Brenda, so Jason let her know that Brenda planned to leave Port Charles once the danger had passed. Carly then complained that Brenda would break Sonny's heart. Jason suggested that Carly warn Sonny, if she was so concerned. Carly let the matter drop, but she demanded to know how long Brenda would remain in Port Charles. Jason confided that it would help if he knew what the Balkan looked like. Later, Brenda stormed into Jason's penthouse to let him know that she intended to leave town immediately. Jason realized that Brenda had been in a fight with Sonny. Brenda insisted that things had turned out exactly as they should have. Jason wondered if Brenda had confessed that she still had feelings for Sonny. Brenda was livid when she realized that Suzanne had been talking to Jason. She felt like they were all in high school.
Jason assured Brenda that Suzanne had just been concerned. Brenda didn't think that it mattered, since she didn't have any plans to be with Sonny. Brenda angrily blamed Jason for her troubles because Jason had forced her to return to Port Charles. According to Brenda, there wasn't any difference between being emotionally dead and physically dead. Jason suggested that Brenda simply stay away from Sonny. Brenda confessed that she had to tell Jason something that was worse than anything he could imagine. "What makes it worse?" Jason wondered. Brenda's eyes filled with tears as she tried to find the words. Jason grew frustrated as he pushed Brenda to reveal her secret. Brenda resented Jason's lack of compassion, so she shut down. She decided that she would call someone else to guard her, but Jason ignored her as he walked away. 10/13 In the office at Pozzulo's, Claire made it clear that Michael had violated the terms of his parole by seeing Sonny. Jason clarified that Michael had stopped by to talk to him, not Sonny. Claire argued that Sonny was a co-owner of the restaurant, so it was a reasonable expectation that Sonny would eventually show up. Jason was curious why Claire was trying to send Michael back to jail after she had expressed so much regret for her role in Michael's incarceration. Claire insisted that she was obligated to uphold the law. Jason argued that Michael hadn't broken any laws, but Claire disagreed. She reminded Jason and Michael that Michael had been ordered to have minimal contact with Sonny, so showing up at Pozzulo's violated the terms of Michael's parole. Jason couldn't understand why Claire would report Michael after Jason had helped her with Franco. Claire insisted that she had repaid Jason for his help by securing his release from Pentonville. Claire added that she had gotten a ton of flak for that, so it had been the last favor that she would ever do for Jason and Sonny. After Claire left, Michael feared that he might have to go back to Pentonville. Jason insisted that Claire had been bluffing. Jason explained that Claire's superiors wanted Sonny, not Michael. Jason was curious why Michael hadn't gone to the penthouse to talk to him. Michael admitted that he had been hoping to avoid Sam. Michael felt like a loser because he had made an idiot of himself in front of Sam's friend. Jason assured Michael that Sam hadn't mentioned it, so no one thought less of Michael because of what had happened. However, Jason made it clear that Michael could never return to Pozzulo's. Jason insisted that Michael had to follow the rules until his parole was over. Michael worried that it might not be enough because of Claire. Jason promised to take care of it. Diane marched into Jason's office to complain about Spinelli. Jason told Diane about Claire's threat against Michael. Diane wasn't surprised because Claire was a scorned woman. She revealed that Sonny had taken Claire to the island, but then he had pushed her aside when he had learned that Brenda was in town. Diane warned Jason that Claire wanted payback, so she wouldn't hesitate to use Michael. A short time later, Claire entered the office at Pozzulo's to hand Jason a copy of a writ notifying the court of Michael's parole violation. Claire assured Jason that Michael would return to Pentonville once she filed it. However, she suggested that Jason could stop it if he agreed to give her evidence and testimony against Sonny. "Forget it," Jason told her. Claire promised that she would send Michael to jail if Jason didn't cooperate. She warned him, "This time you won't be there to protect him." 10/14 At Pozzulo's, Jason warned Claire that Michael wouldn't survive another stint in Pentonville. Claire suggested that Michael shouldn't have violated the terms of his parole. Claire was startled when Sonny suddenly appeared in the doorway and then ordered her to leave Michael and Jason alone; her problem was with him. The wind left Claire's sails when Sonny insisted that Claire was a better person "than that." Sonny threatened to bar her from the restaurant if she continued to pull stunts like the one that she had. Jason decided to call Diane about the writ. Claire explained that it wasn't necessary because she had never intended to send Michael back to jail. However, she informed Jason that Diane would be notified if they had more questions about the Zacchara car bombing. Maxie tried to enlist Jason's help when he arrived home. Jason didn't want any part of her argument with Brenda, but Maxie continued to rant about Brenda. Eventually, Jason shouted, "Enough!" Maxie smiled smugly when Jason demanded to know what Brenda had done to Spinelli. Brenda was infuriated that Jason appeared to be accusing her of wrongdoing. Brenda insisted that Spinelli had been very kind and helpful to her. Jason argued that she wasn't there to be waited on. Maxie added that she didn't understand why Brenda was even in town. Meanwhile, Spinelli clarified that it had been an honor to help Brenda. Maxie continued to plead her case for Spinelli to move out because he was nothing but a glorified butler to Brenda. Spinelli reminded Maxie that it was his choice to decide who his friends were. Maxie was stunned when Jason ordered her to leave. Maxie couldn't believe that Jason would toss her out after everything that she had done for him. After Maxie left in a huff, Jason pointed out that the only way that Spinelli should be helping Brenda was by tracking down the Balkan. After Spinelli left, Jason informed Brenda that he wanted her to back off of Spinelli. Brenda was offended, but Jason explained that Spinelli tended to spend too much time in the cyber-world, so Spinelli had difficulty separating fantasy from reality at times. Brenda assured Jason that she would never do anything to hurt Spinelli. Jason believed her, but he insisted that Spinelli would read too much into her kindness. Jason feared that Spinelli would rush into danger to save her from the Balkan. Brenda realized that Jason was just trying to keep Spinelli safe, so she agreed to take a step back. However, she asked that Jason take care of things as soon as possible and persuade Sonny to stay away from her. Jason returned to Pozzulo's to talk to Sonny. Sonny assured Jason that Claire wouldn't follow through with her threat to turn in Michael for a parole violation. Jason warned Sonny that Claire remained a threat because she was in a position to cause them trouble. Sonny realized that; he confided that there had been something special about Claire, but then Brenda had returned. Jason explained that Brenda hadn't wanted to fly to Port Charles. According to Jason, Brenda was still messed up, so she didn't trust herself to be around Sonny. Sonny felt the same way, but he wanted to try to work things out with Brenda anyway. Sonny was certain that Brenda kept seeking him out because she was looking for reassurance that she could take a chance with him again. 10/15 Jason told Sonny that Brenda was serious about not wanting Sonny in her life. Jason explained that she had nearly been destroyed, emotionally, after Sonny left her at the altar. He warned Sonny not to pursue Brenda because their past had caused untold damage on those around them. Sonny said that he couldn't help himself. He wondered if Jason was seeing danger that wasn't there. Jason went to see Dante and asked Dante to talk to Claire to ask her not to pursue Michael for violating his parole. Dante agreed and promised to remind Michael to stay away from Sonny. Dante also informed Jason that the Lopez brothers had been cleared in the car bombing that had almost killed Johnny and Kristina, and that Sonny had become the prime suspect. Michael might be asked to testify against their father, Dante cautioned. Mayor Floyd walked in to find Dante and Jason conversing and insinuated that Dante was a crooked cop. The mayor threatened to launch an internal affairs investigation. Jason reminded the mayor that Sam and Spinelli had photos showing the man in bed with a hooker, and threatened to release them. Mayor Floyd left in a huff. Jason walked into his living room and, soon after, Sonny arrived. 10/18 At Jason's penthouse, Jason and Sonny discussed Brenda. Sonny wanted to renew his romance with Brenda, and Jason worried that Brenda knew something about the Balkan that she was not telling. Jason said that the Balkan was trying to take Brenda, not kill her. Jason thought it was because Brenda knew something or had something that the Balkan wanted. Spinelli and Jason tried to find out more about the Balkan and understand his connection to Brenda. Jason tried to understand why Brenda would try to reconcile Sonny and Dante when she kept saying that she did not want to have any contact with Sonny. Jason called Max and bawled him out for letting Dante in to see Brenda. Spinelli said that he had narrowed down the search for the Balkan, but still did not know his identity. Jason said that he believed Brenda knew the Balkan's identity. Spinelli was gone when Brenda descended the stairs. A sad, quiet Brenda insisted that she needed to go back to Rome. Jason ignored her plea and wanted to know about the Balkan. He told Brenda that somebody would be hurt or killed because she was not telling the truth to him. Brenda told Jason that she hated him, then walked out to the terrace. An angry Jason left the penthouse and met Sonny on his way back in to see Brenda. Max and Milo stood guard at the door. Luke called Jason to the Metro Court, to tell him what had happened to Ethan. He asked that Sonny not outsource any men to beat up on his family. Jason agreed. When he asked Luke for the name of the person who was after him, he was stunned to find out that it was the Balkan. 10/19 Jason and Luke stood in Metro Court's lobby, discussing the Balkan. Luke made it clear that his cooperation was a courtesy. Jason appreciated Luke's help. Jason explained that he was trying to gather as much information as possible on the Balkan, in the hopes of stopping the ruthless crime lord. Luke was curious why Jason was interested in the Balkan. Jason explained that the Balkan had targeted Brenda Barrett. Jason didn't think that Brenda would be safe until the Balkan was dead. Luke thought that Jason had his work cut out for him. Luke acknowledged that he had never had direct dealings with the Balkan, but the Balkan had quickly built a reputation as a powerful man who was well connected and not someone to be crossed. Jason wondered who the Balkan really was and where he could be found. Luke didn't know the Balkan's true identity, but Luke revealed that the Balkan tended to spend time in and around Budapest. Luke also admitted that the Balkan was interested in Lucky. Jason was surprised to learn that Lucky was working undercover for Interpol, posing as Ronan O'Reilly, the Balkan's assassin. Luke filled Jason in on what had transpired in Ireland. Luke admitted that he was concerned because the Balkan wanted to talk to Luke about Ronan. Jason appreciated Luke's cooperation; he promised to continue sharing information if Luke agreed to do the same. At Greystone Manor, Jason updated Sonny on what he had learned about the Balkan. Sonny trusted Jason to stay on top of things, so Sonny changed the subject to Brenda. Sonny admitted that he had seen Brenda earlier that evening and that she had been upset. Sonny realized that he had been the cause of Brenda's sorrow. Jason admitted that he had confronted Brenda about his suspicions that she was hiding something. Jason made it clear that he had let Brenda know that he didn't appreciate her keeping secrets from him. Sonny was curious how Brenda had reacted. "Not good," Jason admitted. Jason had warned her that it would be on her if someone got hurt or killed because she had kept secrets. Sonny reminded Jason that Brenda was in a fragile state, so he advised Jason to be patient. Jason assured Sonny that he was trying. Sonny knew that Brenda didn't want him taking care of her, but he asked Jason to promise to look out for Brenda. Jason readily agreed. Sam arrived at the penthouse to learn that Jason wasn't there. Brenda offered to leave when Sam explained that she had plans with Jason. Jason entered moments later. To Brenda's surprise, he apologized to her for yelling at her earlier. Brenda appreciated it, but she insisted that it wasn't necessary because she had been unfair to him. After Brenda left, Sam admitted that she was curious about what was going on. Jason confessed that he thought that it had been about Sonny, but he was no longer certain. He sighed as he admitted that he had to figure out a way to handle Brenda. Sam thought that it might help if Brenda were nicer to Jason. Jason confided that he just wanted to find a way to get everything resolved quickly, so that Brenda could return home. Sam realized that guarding Brenda wasn't a picnic for Jason, but Sam admired how Jason took care of Brenda even though it was the last thing that he wanted to do. Jason admitted that it would be worse if he didn't have Sam. Sam worried that she might be getting in the way, but Jason insisted that she kept him sane. Jason invited Sam to go to his bedroom, but Sam didn't want to sleep with Jason while Brenda was in the penthouse. However, Sam assured Jason that he was welcome to drop by her apartment later. After Sam went to the kitchen, Jason called someone to get an update about the Balkan. 10/21 At the penthouse, Brenda thanked Jason for everything that he had done for her, but she thought that the threat to her was affecting too many of her loved ones, so she had decided to take her chances by leaving town. Jason promised to take Brenda wherever she wanted to go, if she would trust him with the truth about why the Balkan was after her. Jason was certain that Brenda knew more than she was saying because he could see the fear growing in Brenda every day. Jason implored Brenda to cooperate, but Brenda was determined to fix things on her own. Jason pleaded with Brenda to trust him; he promised not to breathe a word of what she told him. Jason's frustration mounted as Brenda remained tightlipped. Jason switched tactics by revealing that he had told Sonny to stay away from Brenda and that Sonny had agreed. The ploy didn't work because Brenda refused to tell Jason what she knew about the Balkan. Jason hoped that it wouldn't be too late when she finally worked up the courage to confide the truth to him. Jason briefly updated Sonny on how Brenda was doing and what was going on with the Balkan. Conan entered the office to deliver a perfumed envelope that had arrived for Sonny. It was from Claire. Jason arrived home to find the penthouse empty. He had just sat down on the sofa to relax when Carly pounded on the door. Carly sailed past Jason when he opened the door for her. He realized immediately that she was upset. Jason started to question Carly about it, but Carly had other ideas. She kissed him passionately. 10/22 At Jason's penthouse, Carly passionately kissed Jason. Taken aback, Jason wondered what had gotten into Carly. She replied that she had to sleep with him in order to save her marriage to Jax. Carly explained that she needed to make her husband jealous because Brenda had set her sites on Jax. Jason told Carly that all Brenda wanted was to return to Rome. He suggested Carly talk to Jax instead of resorting to charades. Carly made it clear that she was desperate. Jason warned her not to formulate any crazy plans, but Carly replied that not all of her plans were destined to fail. In fact, she explained, she had arranged for Claire and Sonny to meet for dinner, each thinking the other had invited them. Carly hoped that if Claire were occupied with Sonny, she wouldn't be as likely to try to send Michael back to prison. The only problem, Carly expressed, was that Sonny wouldn't be available to keep Brenda away from Jax. As Carly railed against Brenda, Brenda walked in. Brenda made it clear that she was not trying to make Carly insecure. The two women had a heated exchange before Carly stormed out. Jason suggested to Brenda that she steer clear of Carly. Lucky met Jason on the waterfront and explained that he was pretending to be Ronan O'Reilly. Lucky told Jason that the Balkan wanted Brenda kidnapped and that Lucky was supposed to carry out the abduction. As they spoke, a man took photos of them from a distance. 10/25 The Balkan's man used his cell phone to snap a candid shot of Lucky and Jason meeting on the docks. He was not close enough to hear their conversation as Lucky and Jason discussed staging a fake kidnapping so that Lucky could identify the Balkan and fulfill his mission for Interpol. Lucky told Jason that the Balkan was an evil man who exploited children and was responsible for many other heinous crimes. Both Lucky and Jason questioned the Balkan's fixation on Brenda and Brenda's reluctance to tell what she knew. After agreeing to meet again, Jason left. Lucky heard a noise and pulled a gun, but did not see the Balkan's thug lurking in the shadows. Once Lucky was gone, the Balkan's man sent the photo he had taken along with a text message that read, "Don't trust him." Jason went to Sonny's office and told him what he had learned from Lucky. Sonny liked the fake kidnapping plan that Lucky and Jason had devised, but told Jason that he could not use Brenda as bait. Jason told Sonny to trust him to keep Brenda safe. Sam went to see Jason at the penthouse, but met Brenda instead. When Brenda wanted to know why Sam had not been around, Sam said she had been working, but had some free time and wanted to spend it with Jason. When Jax arrived to see Brenda, Brenda took that as a cue to leave with him. Sam was waiting when Jason got home. He was glad to see her. He held her as he told her about the plan he had made with Lucky. Sam approved the plan with one modification. She suggested that she impersonate Brenda and act as bait for the Balkan. 10/26 At the penthouse, Sam suggested that Jason use her as bait instead of Brenda. Jason refused to take such a risk with Sam's life, but Sam argued that she was the perfect person for the job because she worked well with Jason and knew his cues. Jason thought that the Balkan was less likely to kill Brenda if things went wrong. Sam wondered if Jason were willing depend on Brenda during a life-or-death situation. Jason believed that Brenda was motivated to cooperate because Brenda was desperate to get home. Sam accused Brenda of being impulsive and then continued to argue her case until she eventually wore Jason down. Brenda and Jax arrived at the penthouse to find Jason and Sam in the living room. Jax informed Jason that he had arranged for a police guard for Brenda. Jason assured Jax that it wasn't necessary because Jason had it handled. Jax ignored the comment and then left. Brenda was annoyed by the way that Jason had treated Jax, but Jason didn't apologize. He insisted that Jax didn't know what he was doing. Brenda didn't want Jason to be rude to her friends while she was in Port Charles. Sam sat quietly on the steps as Jason informed Brenda that it would be over soon because he had arranged to meet the Balkan on Friday. Brenda was relieved until Jason revealed that he intended to use Sam as the bait. Brenda worried that Sam would be hurt, but Jason argued that Sam was experienced with weapons and worked well with him. Brenda sarcastically commented that she was certain that an international criminal would walk right into Jason and Sam's trap. The argument ended abruptly when someone knocked on the door. It was Dante. Dante informed everyone that he had been assigned to guard Brenda. Brenda immediately objected, but Dante explained that she didn't have a choice because Jax had made the arrangements. Jason didn't mind because he was confident that he could use Dante's help. Dante assured them that he would report for duty in the morning and then left. Brenda was more determined than ever to go to the meeting with the Balkan. Jason and Brenda continued to argue until Brenda stormed off to her bedroom. 10/28 At Jason's penthouse, Jason explained to Sam that Brenda was upset because she didn't want Sam to risk her life. Jason agreed that Brenda had a point. Sam didn't get a chance to respond because Suzanne arrived. Suzanne was curious what was going on with Brenda. Jason told Suzanne about their plans to lure the Balkan out of hiding by "kidnapping" Brenda. Suzanne thought that it was a great plan, but she didn't think that Brenda would go along with it. Spinelli entered the living room moments later, babbling about Brenda. Sam suggested that they spare themselves lots of trouble by simply locking Brenda in her room until the Balkan had been dealt with. According to Spinelli, Brenda hated Jason's plan because she thought that it was stupid and would likely get everyone killed because the Balkan would see through it. Spinelli insisted that Brenda didn't want anyone to get hurt. Suzanne urged Jason to talk to Brenda; she was certain that, deep down, Brenda wanted Jason's respect. Jason just wanted to get it all over with. Suzanne realized that she wasn't getting anywhere with Jason, so she decided to make the necessary arrangements to put his plans into motion. Meanwhile, Jason and Sam went to the warehouse where they planned to meet the Balkan. Sam was curious what Jason's plans were for the Balkan once they had him trapped in the warehouse. Jason explained that Interpol wanted Lucky to find and identify the Balkan, so he suggested that it would be easier to accomplish if they killed the international crime lord. Sam wanted to make sure that Lucky would keep Jason's name off of all of the paperwork. Jason counted on it. Sam remained uneasy; she feared that something could go wrong. Jason assured her that she could back out if she didn't want to take Brenda's place. Sam clarified that she was worried about Jason because his stint in Pentonville had made her realize that she could easily lose him. Jason smiled and then kissed Sam. Afterwards, they carefully made their way through the warehouse in an attempt to find all of the escape routes and to memorize the layout. Jason and Sam returned to the penthouse a short time later. Jason was satisfied that Spinelli had found the perfect place for the ambush. Spinelli warned Jason that Brenda continued to have reservations about the plan, but Suzanne was trying to ease Brenda's fears. Jason promised to make another attempt to explain things to Brenda. Suzanne entered the living room moments later to announce that Brenda had agreed to stay put. However, Suzanne suspected that Brenda had been lying because Brenda had capitulated too easily. Later, Dante went to Jason's penthouse to report for duty. After Suzanne left, Jason filled Dante in on the plans. Their attention shifted to Sam when she entered the living room to show them her disguise. She looked eerily like Brenda. 10/29 At Jason's penthouse, Sam, dressed as Brenda, assured Dante that she'd be as effective as an undercover cop at luring the Balkan. Jason reminded Dante that the plan was Lucky's but that it wouldn't work if they couldn't control Brenda. The three of them went over the details. Sam, posing as Brenda, would be led to a car. Lucky, posing as Ronan, would abduct her. Dante worried that the Balkan would know that Jason would kill Ronan in such a situation. Max and Milo showed up, having been invited by Dante who explained that they would pose as "Brenda's" bodyguards. Brenda walked into the living room and announced to Dante and Jason that their plan would fail. She argued that she should be the one to be "kidnapped" by Lucky. Jason put his foot down and left. Brenda told Dante that, since the two of them were the only people who knew that the Balkan was after her because she'd accidentally killed a man named Aleksander, they needed to thwart Lucky's plan. Brenda wondered why, after all those years, the Balkan would pursue her. Dante explained that, six months before, the New Jersey police had discovered Aleksander's body, where Dante had dumped it. Brenda made Dante promise that he'd never admit to his involvement in the death. Dante assured Brenda that, once the Balkan was apprehended or killed, their past would remain buried. As Dante momentarily turned away, Brenda hit him over the head with a vase and ran out. Downstairs, Max and Milo escorted Sam, disguised as Brenda, to the car. Lucky accosted her and dragged her away. He took her to a warehouse where Jason met them. Lucky made a call and explained to the other party that he had Brenda but would only meet with the Balkan. Jason took his gun and hid outside. Lucky tied Sam up but left her hands loose enough so that she could get free and grab her gun. He placed a loosely woven burlap sack over her head. 11/1 At the warehouse, Jason, Sam, and Lucky prepared for the upcoming meeting with the Balkan. Meanwhile, at Jason's penthouse, Dante woke up to find that Brenda was gone. In the lobby, Brenda bumped into a couple of painters as she ran out of the building. Spinelli arrived that the penthouse a short time later to find the front door wide open and everyone gone. He immediately called Jason. Jason had Spinelli check the surveillance footage, which showed Brenda racing out of the lobby, followed by Dante two minutes later. Jason was confident that Brenda would be fine, since she didn't have any idea where the meeting with the Balkan had been scheduled to take place. Jason realized something was wrong when Spinelli remained silent. Jason demanded to know what Spinelli was hiding, so Spinelli confessed that he had told Brenda where Jason and Lucky had planned to ambush the Balkan. After Jason ended the call, he let Sam and Lucky know that their plans had hit a snag.
Jason decided that it would be best to pack things up, but Lucky argued that their plan could still work. Jason disagreed. In the alleyway, Brenda raced to the warehouse, but before she could enter the building, one of the Balkan's goons caught her. Brenda struggled violently with the man until Dante arrived. Dante managed to free Brenda from the thug's grip, but Brenda didn't run to safety. She watched as Dante tried to overpower the burly man, until she spotted a gun on the ground. Brenda picked up the gun as she began to have flashbacks of another violent fight in an alleyway between an unknown person and Dante. Distraught, Brenda took aim and then fired at the goon, who had gained the upper hand on Dante. The thug stumbled away from Dante and then collapsed to the ground. Brenda became hysterical as she realized that she had killed the man. Jason, Sam, and Lucky arrived seconds later. Jason gently talked Brenda into lowering the gun and then giving it to him. Brenda threw herself into Jason's arms as she sobbed. Sam watched Jason and Brenda as Dante insisted on calling the police. Lucky didn't want to involve the police because he feared that it would blow his cover as Ronan O'Reilly. Jason argued that Brenda was too upset to deal with the police, so he wanted to take her home. Dante insisted that Brenda hadn't done anything wrong, so there wasn't any reason to cover up what had happened. Dante suggested that Lucky and Sam leave. Dante thought that Brenda could claim that she had been at the warehouse with Jason and then had gone into the alley when she had heard a noise. Sam didn't look pleased when she walked away. After Lucky and Sam left, Brenda looked at Dante with confusion as she reminded him that he had promised her that no one would know. Dante stared at Brenda with concern, but didn't respond to the comment. Sam was livid because Brenda had ruined the plans to capture the Balkan by killing one of the Balkan's thugs. Sam accused Brenda of compromising Lucky's cover, involving the Port Charles Police Department, and destroying any future chance of catching the Balkan. A short time later, Jax dropped by to see Brenda. Sam's mood hadn't improved. She updated Jax on what had happened in the alley and then suggested that Jason and Brenda shared a bond that Jason and Brenda didn't even realize was there. On Spoon Island, Siobhan was abducted by one of the Balkan's men and then spirited to an abandoned warehouse. Siobhan warned the goon that he had kidnapped the wrong woman and that her boss, Nikolas Cassadine, would call the police the moment that he realized that Siobhan was gone. The thug assured Siobhan that no one had noticed that she was missing yet and that she wasn't going anywhere because she was the bait. At the police station, Dante ushered Brenda and Jason to the interrogation room and then turned to fetch someone to take Brenda's statement. Brenda didn't want to give a statement because she feared that she would be sent to jail. Dante assured her that she hadn't done anything wrong by saving his life. Brenda was traumatized and remained in the grips of the past as she admitted that she didn't understand why Dante was telling the police when he had promised her that they would never talk about "it." Jason demanded to know what was going on. Dante was spared from having to answer Jason because Agent Bates entered the squad room to demand to speak to Dante. Jason closed the door to the interrogation room while Dante approached the Interpol agent. Agent Bates warned Dante that Dante had a "significant situation" on his hands. Agent Bates wanted to know why the Balkan was focused on Brenda. In the interrogation room, Jason called Diane to ask her to meet him at the station, so that she could get Brenda released. After he ended the call, Jason promised Brenda to get her through the crisis, but he insisted that she had to tell him what had happened. "This time or the time before?" Brenda asked. 11/2 At the police station, Agent Bates demanded to know why the Balkan was interested in Brenda. Dante claimed that he didn't know why, so Agent Bates questioned how Brenda had ended up killing the Balkan's henchman, Banovic. Dante would only reveal the barest essentials: he had been assigned to guard Brenda, and she had saved his life when Banovic had tried to kill him. Agent Bates was curious what Brenda had been doing in the alley in the first place. Dante suggested that she had been looking for her ex-husband, Jason Morgan. Agent Bates knew that Dante had a history with Brenda, so he didn't believe Dante's story. In the interrogation room, Jason questioned Brenda about what she had meant when she had told him that something had happened in the past. Brenda refused to tell Jason. Jason didn't have an opportunity to probe further because Diane had arrived. Diane tried to get to the bottom of what had happened, so that she could figure out how to help Brenda. Brenda made it clear that she refused to give a statement about the shooting.
Brenda turned to Jason for help, so Jason instructed Diane to find a way for Brenda to go home as soon as possible. Diane left the room, but returned a short time later. Jason urged Brenda to tell Diane what had happened. Brenda admitted that she had known about the ambush, so she had raced to the warehouse to stop Jason from meeting with the Balkan. Brenda then told Diane about the attack and subsequent shooting. Diane agreed that it was best for Brenda not to give a statement, since it was clear that she had known far too much about what had been planned at the warehouse. Moments later, Agent Bates entered the room to interrogate Brenda about the Balkan. Diane quickly interceded by informing Agent Bates that she was Brenda's legal counsel. Agent Bates acknowledged that Diane had a right to be present, but he insisted that Jason had to leave. Jason assured Brenda that he would be close by. Jason approached Dante to let him know that Brenda seemed to have the shooting mixed up with something that had happened in the past. Jason was curious if Dante knew what Brenda had been trying to tell Dante in the alley. Diane insisted that Brenda be allowed to go home. Agent Bates finally relented, but he warned Diane that he intended to question Brenda the following day. Jason thanked Diane for her help, but Diane cautioned Jason that it wasn't over. She pulled him aside to explain that Sonny had been "canoodling" with Claire, while publicly comforting Brenda. Diane didn't think that Claire would take that kind of slap in the face lying down. Jason thought that it was Sonny's problem to deal with. Jason and Diane returned to the interrogation room to let Brenda know that she was free to leave. Diane was confident that she could delay Brenda from having to make a statement for weeks. As Jason, Brenda, and Diane walked through the squad room, Agent Bates stopped them. Agent Bates warned Brenda that sooner or later, she would have to tell him why the Balkan had targeted her. Diane insisted that Brenda didn't have any personal knowledge of the Balkan, so Diane threatened to file a complaint if Agent Bates continued to harass her client. After Jason, Brenda, and Diane left, Agent Bates turned his attention to Dante. Agent Bates wanted to know what had happened in the alley with Banovic. Dante stuck to his story. Lucky received a call from Agent Bates ordering Lucky to go to the police station because they had news on the Balkan. Lucky arrived at the police station a short time later. Agent Bates revealed that the Balkan had almost captured Brenda Barrett. Dante left as Lucky pointed out that the attempted kidnapping had failed, so he didn't understand why Agent Bates was upset. Agent Bates explained that Interpol was not happy with Lucky's performance. Lucky explained that the Balkan had taken the woman that had been helping Lucky. Lucky expected Interpol to back him while he searched for Siobhan. Agent Bates made it clear that Lucky was no longer of any use to them, so they were cutting Lucky loose. Agent Bates added that the missing woman was Lucky's problem. After Agent Bates left, Dante returned with grim news. Dante had received an email addressed to Lucky. It was a picture of Siobhan tied to a chair. Lucky's fears were confirmed when he realized that the Balkan had Siobhan and was aware of Lucky's true identity. At Jason's penthouse, Sam asked Spinelli to hack into the police station's mainframe to find out what was going on with Brenda. Spinelli was a bit surprised that Sam was concerned about Brenda, but Sam quickly clarified that she was worried about Jason. Sam complained that Brenda was unstable and couldn't be saved because Brenda didn't want it. Spinelli suggested that perhaps Sam could muster up a bit of sympathy for Brenda's situation. Sam realized that Brenda was in grave danger, but she was certain that there was more to the story than Brenda had told them. Spinelli was curious why Sam thought that Brenda was hiding something. Sam admitted that after the shooting, Brenda had said some strange things to Dante including, "You told me not to tell." Sam confessed that it had sounded like Brenda had been talking about something other than the shooting in the alley. Later, Spinelli let Sam know that Jason and Brenda were still at the police station. He could tell that Sam was exhausted, so he suggested that she get some sleep. Sam acknowledged that she was tired, but she was tempted to stay awake until Jason arrived home. Sam confided that she had felt a weird vibe between Jason and Brenda in the alley. Spinelli apologized if he had said anything that had made Sam doubt Jason's love for her. Sam assured Spinelli that she knew that Jason loved her. Spinelli agreed that Jason loved Sam deeply and sincerely. Sam relaxed as she admitted that she felt bad for Brenda; she imagined that Brenda was probably terrified to have someone like the Balkan hunting her down. Jason and Brenda arrived at the penthouse to find that everything was dark and no one appeared to be there. Jason suspected that Sam was in bed, sleeping. Brenda took the opportunity to thank Jason for his help. Jason suggested that Brenda get some rest, so she went to her bedroom. Jason went to his own bedroom, where Sam was sound asleep in his bed. Jason glanced out the window for a moment and then curled up in bed with Sam. Brenda threw the pillows off of her bed and then flopped down. In the other bedroom, Jason and Sam were sound asleep when they woke up to the sound of Brenda screaming. Jason raced to Brenda's bedroom to find her sitting up in bed after a terrifying nightmare. Brenda threw herself into Jason's arms just as Sam arrived. Sam watched Jason comfort Brenda for a moment and then quietly turn away with a troubled expression. 11/3 At the penthouse, Sam asked Jason how Brenda was doing. Jason explained that Brenda had finally calmed down and then fallen asleep around four in the morning. He admitted that he hadn't felt right to leave her afterwards. Sam sipped her coffee to hide her displeasure. Sam then changed the subject by revealing that she had tried to stay awake until he had arrived home from the police station, but she had been too exhausted. Jason told Sam about what had unfolded at the police station and Diane's fear that Claire would "rain hell down on Sonny," because of Brenda. Jason then confided that he believed that something else was going on with Brenda. Sam relaxed as she joined Jason on the sofa. She admitted that she also had a feeling that something was off with Brenda. Moments later, Spinelli arrived home. Jason decided to confront Spinelli about revealing the location of the meeting with the Balkan to Brenda. Jason thought that it would be best for Spinelli to stay in a hotel until Brenda left town. Sam spoke up for Spinelli, so Jason relented. However, Jason made it clear that he expected Spinelli to keep his mouth shut, especially around Brenda. Later, Jason and Sam went to the alley where Brenda had shot the Balkan's thug. As Jason and Sam reviewed the events of the previous night, they realized that Brenda's comments to Dante hadn't made sense unless Brenda had known Dante in the past. Sam didn't understand why Dante had resorted to hand-to-hand combat rather than shooting the Balkan's goon. Sam could understand Dante's reluctance to shoot if Lulu had been in the alley, but Brenda was merely a client. According to Sam, it was harder to keep things professional when someone you loved was involved. Jason agreed that Sam had a point. 11/4 At Jason's penthouse, Spinelli discovered a picture on the internet of Brenda and Dante that dated back to April 2007. Carly was thrilled to discover that Brenda had been in Manhattan during April 2007. She was smiling with satisfaction when Jason arrived home. Jason immediately suspected that Carly and Spinelli were up to something. Carly admitted that Spinelli was about to prove that Brenda and Dante had a past connection. To Carly's surprise, Jason was annoyed. Carly couldn't believe that Jason didn't want to know that Brenda and Dante had been lying to everyone. Jason argued that it didn't matter because he had bigger problems to worry about than Carly's revenge plot against Dante. Jason also pointed out that everyone knew how much Carly disliked Brenda. Jason insisted that Brenda had been through a lot and that she wasn't as strong as Carly, so he felt obligated to help Brenda. Carly hated it.
Carly was curious whom Jason would save if she and Brenda were dangling over a pit of alligators. Jason thought that it was a stupid question because Carly wouldn't be anywhere near alligators. Carly clarified that it was a hypothetical situation, but Jason refused to answer the question. Carly smiled brightly because she assumed that his silence meant that he would save her. Satisfied, Carly left. Spinelli admitted that he hated questions like that because there was never a right answer. Jason wondered if Carly might have been right about Dante having guarded Brenda in the past. Spinelli went to work on his laptop. A short time later, Spinelli confirmed that Dante had once been assigned to protect Brenda. Jason asked Spinelli to find out if Dante and Brenda's association had gone further; however, Jason made it clear that he didn't want Brenda to know. As if on cue, Brenda walked in. She promptly sensed that Jason and Spinelli had been talking about something that they didn't want her to know about. Jason didn't deny it, but he made certain that Brenda understood that he had ordered Spinelli not to reveal anything confidential to her. Brenda apologized for tricking Spinelli into telling her where the meeting with the Balkan had been planned; she insisted that she was to blame, not Spinelli. Jason was curious where Brenda had been. Brenda revealed that she had paid Edward a visit, which she thought Jason should do too. "Why?" Jason wondered. Brenda explained that Edward missed Lila. Jason groaned because it was clear that Brenda intended to lecture him. He refused to get into another argument with her, so he changed the subject by asking her about the "other guy" that she had shot. Brenda grew quiet. Jason promised her that he would wait until she was ready to talk, but he knew that something had happened. Brenda was spared from having to respond when someone knocked on the door. It was Dante. Dante told them about Sonny's arrest. Brenda was immediately concerned, so she decided to go to the police station to check on Sonny. After Brenda left, Jason and Dante discussed the situation with the Balkan. Dante confirmed that the Balkan had taken Siobhan. Jason warned Dante that the stakes were high, so he wanted Dante to be honest about how involved Dante had been with Brenda in 2007. Jason was curious about what had happened in the past that had caused her to mix it up with the shooting in the alley. Dante downplayed his association with Brenda by claiming that he had just been one of four police officers who had opened doors for Brenda. Jason didn't get an opportunity to question Dante further because Dante received a text message informing him that the Balkan wanted to trade Siobhan for Brenda. 11/5 Lucky arrived at Jason's penthouse and updated Jason and Dante on the search for Siobhan and the Balkan. Dante informed Lucky that the Balkan had demanded a trade: Brenda for Siobhan. Jason said that they'd make no such deal. Lucky was incredulous and worried that the Balkan would kill Siobhan. Jason replied that the Balkan would kill Brenda if given the chance. Lucky suggested that they take Brenda to meet with the Balkan's men and then stage an ambush. The men would expect that, Dante reasoned. Jason suggested they stall. Lucky was adamant that they not let Siobhan die. Dante and Jason explained that Brenda was too fragile, emotionally, to be involved. Lucky vowed that he'd do anything to ensure Siobhan's safety then left. Brenda returned to the penthouse, and Jason told her that the Balkan wanted her in exchange for Siobhan. Jason asked Brenda to tell him why the Balkan wanted Brenda so badly. She replied that she wanted to tell Jason everything but that she couldn't. Jason let her know that he was aware of her past with Dante and wanted to know what that had to do with the Balkan. Brenda begged Jason to leave it alone, use her as a target, and stage an ambush. Jason could not guarantee that she'd be safe. Brenda said she was willing to take that chance. She would not allow an innocent woman to die to save her. Lucky and Dante went back to the penthouse. Brenda informed them that she was going to meet the Balkan's men with them. Jason rejected the idea of going to the warehouse that the Balkan had designated as the meeting point and suggested a bluff where they could place a sniper. Jason and Lucky left. Alone, Dante and Brenda discussed the situation and reiterated how important it was that the truth not be revealed. Lucky made a call to the man holding Siobhan. Lucky told him that they would meet at another location. The man put Siobhan on the phone and inflicted pain to make her scream. 11/8 Lucky was on the phone with the Balkan's henchman, Marko. Lucky vowed to kill Marko if Siobhan was hurt. Marko glanced down at Siobhan, who remained tied to a chair that had been tipped over. Marko warned Lucky that Siobhan would die a slow and painful death if Brenda were not taken to the warehouse. Lucky demanded to talk to Siobhan, but Marko refused. Lucky's temper flared until Jason advised Lucky to calm down.
Lucky took a deep breath and then explained that he refused to walk into an ambush, so he insisted on meeting Marko and Siobhan at the bluffs on Adams Road. Marko agreed and then disconnected the call. Jason understood that Lucky was upset about Siobhan, but he advised Lucky to get himself under control before someone ended up dead. In the penthouse, Brenda confessed to Dante that things were getting tricky. She was certain that the Balkan's men knew why the Balkan wanted her. Dante didn't agree, but he assured her that they would deal with it if that were the case. Brenda relaxed as she admitted that he was exactly the same as he had been when she first met him: calm and collected. However, she made it clear that she didn't want Dante to get hurt because of her. Dante reminded Brenda that it was his choice to make. He wanted her to believe him when he promised her that everything would be okay. Brenda was smiling when Jason and Lucky walked in. Lucky asked if Brenda still wanted to help rescue Siobhan. Brenda assured Lucky that she was ready, so they went over the plans. Dante quietly confided to Jason that he was concerned because Lucky seemed more interested in saving Siobhan than in keeping everyone, including Brenda, safe. Jason appeared to agree. A short time later, Jason, Dante, and Lucky put their plan into motion with Brenda's help. Jason and Dante took sniper positions in the brush as Lucky and Brenda stood in a clearing waiting for Marko and Siobhan to arrive. Brenda pretended to struggle against Lucky's strong grip as Marko, flanked by two goons, appeared with Siobhan. Jason warned Dante to hold his fire until Jason gave the word. Meanwhile, Marko wondered how long Brenda had thought that she could run. Brenda screamed in outrage seconds before Dante fired a shot. 11/9 On the bluffs, Marko, flanked by several thugs, held onto Siobhan tightly as he warned Brenda that the Balkan knew what she had done. Brenda screamed in outrage as she charged Marko. Jason, hidden in the bushes, radioed to Dante to hold his fire, but Dante took aim and then shot Marko. Lucky immediately grabbed Siobhan as gunfire erupted all around them. Once the smoke had cleared, all of the Balkan's men were dead.
Lucky quickly confirmed that Siobhan and Brenda were unharmed as Jason and Dante made their way to the clearing. Jason was curious why Dante had taken the shot early. Dante claimed that things had gone south, so he had to shoot Marko or Marko would have taken off with Brenda. Jason accepted the explanation. Lucky and Dante realized that the police would have to be notified, but they didn't want Siobhan and Brenda to be present when the police arrived. Jason agreed to take Siobhan and Brenda to his penthouse while Lucky and Dante dealt with the police. After Jason, Siobhan, and Brenda left, Lucky confessed that something didn't add up. Lucky found Marko's comments to Brenda and Brenda's reaction odd. Lucky couldn't understand why Brenda had charged Marko rather than flee. Dante attributed it to fear. Jason arrived home with Siobhan and Brenda in tow. He questioned Siobhan about her time spent as the Balkan's prisoner. Siobhan revealed that the men had been instructed to capture Brenda alive. Siobhan also recalled hearing the name Aleksander mentioned several times. Jason turned to Brenda to see if she knew who Aleksander was. Brenda insisted that she couldn't discuss it. Siobhan decided to leave, so Jason insisted on sending a few guards with her. Brenda started to head to her bedroom, but Jason ordered Brenda to wait for him until he had returned. Jason walked Siobhan out of the penthouse, so that he could assign some men to watch over her. Alone, Brenda became lost in memories of the past. Brenda recalled taking a walk with Dante. Brenda and Dante had ended up in an alley where they a man named Aleksander approached them. Brenda tensed up as she reminded Aleksander that she didn't want to see him. Dante tried to force Aleksander to leave, but Aleksander reacted violently. As Dante and Aleksander struggled, Brenda spotted a gun on the ground. Dante yelled at Brenda to run, but she refused to budge. Eventually, Aleksander gained the upper hand in the fight. Brenda panicked when Aleksander started to choke the life out of Dante. She picked up the gun and then shot Aleksander. Aleksander was stunned as he slowly turned to look at Brenda with accusation in his eyes. "Bitch," Aleksander growled as he stumbled towards Brenda. "I loved you," Aleksander confessed before he crumbled to the ground. Dante quickly confirmed that Aleksander was dead. Brenda was distraught as Dante wrapped his arms around her and then promised to take care of everything. Brenda shook off the daydream just as Jason walked through the door. Jason joined Brenda in the living room and then demanded that she tell him the truth about Aleksander. Jason warned her that lying wasn't an option. Brenda confessed that she would be breaking a promise if she told him what she knew. Jason assured her that she could trust him. Brenda's lips trembled as she slowly told Jason about Aleksander's shooting. Brenda explained that Dante had hidden the body because they had feared the Balkan's wrath. She insisted that Jason had to keep quiet about what had happened because it could ruin Dante's career. Jason wondered why the Balkan would be so upset about Aleksander's death. Brenda revealed that she had briefly dated Aleksander until she had realized that he was involved in criminal activity. According to Brenda, Aleksander had begun to stalk her after she broke off their relationship, so she had turned to the police for help. Brenda had been told that Aleksander was on the short list of international criminals who were being watched by Interpol, so Interpol had arranged for her to be protected by bodyguards. Jason was stunned when Brenda revealed that Aleksander had been the Balkan's son. 11/10 Dante went to Jason's penthouse to check on Brenda. Jason refused to let Dante see Brenda until Jason and Dante had a talk. Jason revealed that Brenda had told him about Aleksander's death and Dante's decision to dump the body. Jason was curious why Dante would risk his badge for Brenda. Dante explained that he had just been trying to help Brenda, but Jason didn't buy it. Jason wondered why Dante would cover for Brenda, but turn in Michael. Dante argued that he had been trying to save Michael because Dante knew what it was like to cover up a crime that would one day return to "bite him in the ass" just as it had Brenda. Dante stormed out and then went to his loft. Seconds later, Sam stopped by to talk to Dante about Brenda. Sam admitted that something didn't add up about Brenda's actions on the bluffs. Dante suggested that she talk to Jason, but Sam ignored the advice. She was curious why Brenda had moved when she shouldn't have and why Dante had fired his gun before Jason had given the order. Sam was frustrated because they had four dead men, but weren't any closer to finding out who the Balkan was. She also found Brenda's comments to Dante, following the shooting in the alley, odd. Dante claimed that it had been the ramblings of a distraught woman, but Sam was certain that there had been more to it. Sam didn't want Jason risking his life to protect Brenda without knowing exactly what kind of trouble Brenda was really in. Sam wanted Dante to take a more active role in protecting Brenda, but Dante didn't see anything wrong with Jason's plan. Suzanne arrived at Jason's penthouse shortly after Jason left a message for her. Jason told her about the shootout and then admitted that Brenda had opened up to him about the Balkan. Suzanne was relieved to hear that he had gotten somewhere with Brenda. Jason suspected that Suzanne knew more than she realized, so he began to question her about how she had met Brenda. Suzanne revealed that she had met Brenda in 2007 at a charity event. According to Suzanne, Brenda had been "immediately and passionately" interested in ASEC, so Suzanne had invited Brenda to join the next relief trip to Africa. Suzanne confessed that Brenda's trip had nearly been cut short when Brenda had fallen ill for a week. However, after the illness had passed, Brenda had been more committed to the cause than ever. Jason was curious if there had been any threats or signs that Brenda had been running from someone since 2007. Suzanne didn't think so, but she realized that she hadn't known Brenda as well as she had thought. Sam arrived shortly after Suzanne left. Sam admitted that she suspected that Dante was hiding something. She was upset because their lives had been turned upside down and there wasn't an end in sight. Sam insisted that she just wanted Jason to be safe. Jason confided that he had uncovered more about the Balkan's connection to Brenda. Sam's hopes were dashed when Jason confessed that it wasn't enough to track down the Balkan. Sam demanded to know when enough would be enough. She couldn't understand why Jason couldn't let someone else take care of Brenda. Jason realized that it was tough on Sam, but he assured her that he was making progress. Jason revealed that he knew why the Balkan was after Brenda. "Why?" Sam wondered. She was hurt when Jason reluctantly confessed that he couldn't tell her. 11/11 At Jason's penthouse, Sam admitted that she hated that their lives had been put on hold until Brenda was safe. Jason realized that it was difficult on Sam. Brenda entered the living room in time to hear part of Jason and Sam's conversation. Brenda made it clear that she didn't want Jason and Sam to put their lives on hold for her. Sam wasn't satisfied; she complained that she and Jason couldn't even have a conversation without it being about Brenda and the Balkan. Brenda suggested that Jason wasn't much of a talker to begin with, but Sam didn't find any humor in the observation. Sam wanted to know what secret Jason was keeping for Brenda. Brenda explained that it wasn't any of Sam's business, but Sam insisted that Brenda be honest. Brenda argued that there was a difference between lying and personal boundaries. Jason stepped in to assure Sam that he would do everything in his power to try to get everything resolved as quickly as possible. Sam admitted that she would feel better if she knew what was going on; she assured Brenda that she just wanted to help. Brenda reiterated that she couldn't tell her about the secret. Sam's temper flared because they weren't just talking about Brenda's life; Jason was in danger too. Brenda realized that. Brenda wondered if Sam had ever made a choice that had haunted her. Sam admitted that she had. Brenda guessed that Sam wouldn't want Brenda to know all of the details about Sam's secrets. Sam claimed that she would shout the details for everyone to hear if it meant that it would help someone. Jason smiled, but Brenda was unmoved. Sam accused Brenda of not having any perspective. According to Sam, Brenda couldn't tell the difference between getting her feelings hurt and getting someone shot. After Sam stormed out, Brenda urged Jason to go after his girlfriend to reassure Sam. Jason didn't want to lie to Sam, but Brenda clarified that she had never suggested that he lie. It was clear to Brenda that Sam was upset about Jason's decision to keep a secret from Sam, so Jason needed to remind Sam how much Sam meant to him. Jason refused to discuss his relationship with Sam, so he decided to question Brenda about Aleksander. However, Brenda continued to try to get Jason to focus on Sam. Brenda advised Jason to romance Sam by buying a bottle of wine, taking Sam out to a nice dinner, or writing Sam a poem. Jason immediately rejected each suggestion. Brenda and Jason were arguing about it when Spinelli arrived home. Brenda tried to enlist Spinelli's help to get Jason to patch things up with Sam, but Jason insisted that everything was fine. Spinelli confessed that he had thought the same thing about Maxie until she had cheated on him. Brenda was surprised by Spinelli's revelation; she had thought that Spinelli had ended things with Maxie. Spinelli admitted that he had been too "nerdy" for Maxie, which prompted Brenda to switch gears. She decided that she and Jason needed to help Spinelli. Spinelli confided the details of Maxie's one-night stand with Franco and then her attempt to make Spinelli jealous by flirting with Matt. Spinelli admitted that he had finally moved on when he had met Brenda. Brenda was touched, but she made it clear that Spinelli could not waste his devotion on her. Brenda insisted that Spinelli needed a real love. She was curious if Spinelli wanted to work things out with Maxie. "More than anything," Spinelli confessed. Brenda advised Spinelli to fight for Maxie and then asked Jason to back her up. Jason didn't want to get involved, so he decided that Spinelli should focus on work. Brenda insisted that Spinelli shouldn't let a chance at reconciliation pass him by because he might not get another opportunity. Jason realized that Brenda wouldn't give up, so he advised Spinelli to get back with Maxie if Spinelli wanted to. Spinelli decided that he had a lot to ponder, so he went to his room. Afterwards, Brenda announced that she would pay Dante a visit to let him know that she had told Jason about their secret. Jason assured Brenda that he had already told Dante. Brenda was surprised, but she remained determined to talk to Dante to make certain that he was okay with everything. On the pier, Dante remembered saying goodbye to Brenda in 2007. Dante had walked Brenda to the car and then explained that the driver would take her to the airport. Brenda thanked Dante for saving her life; she had no idea why he had done it. Dante assured her that he had just been doing his job. Brenda appreciated what Dante had done for her. After she climbed into the backseat, Brenda looked out the window at Dante as the limousine pulled away. Dante was surprised when Jason approached him. Jason thought that Dante should give Brenda a call because she had gone looking for him. 11/12 Jason arrived to see Sonny. Sonny breathed a sigh of relief that he had been cleared of all charges involving the bomb that had been planted in Johnny's car. Regardless, he lamented that he'd caused so much harm to Claire's career. He said he would sincerely miss her. Jason updated Sonny on Brenda and the search for the Balkan. Sonny wanted to know the details, but Jason refused to share them. Jason and Dante discussed the Balkan's possible next steps. They assumed that the Balkan knew that Brenda had killed Aleksander, the man's son. Jason asked Dante if there was anything else about Brenda's past with Dante that was relevant to the situation. Jason filled Dante in on Brenda's family's mental health history. He explained that Brenda's mother had suffered from mental illness and that Brenda had experienced a nervous breakdown after Sonny had left her at the altar. That was why Jason and Brenda had gotten married, he elucidated. Jason worried what might happen to Brenda's mind should Dante's life be ruined because of something she'd done three years before. Jason urged Dante to discuss with Brenda what had happened in 2007 and to make sure their stories matched. 11/15 Jason and Sonny met at the restaurant office. Sonny wanted to know about Brenda, but Jason would not divulge the secrets that she had told him. Jason left after promising to call Sonny if Brenda needed help. At Jason's penthouse, Brenda apologized to Dante for messing up his life. Dante assured Brenda that she was not causing trouble in his relationship with Lulu and that he wanted to help keep her safe. Dante said that he had been glad to help her in the past. When he started to mention another secret they shared, Brenda said that she did not want to talk about the baby, and she did not want Sonny to know. Dante said that he would never tell. After Dante left, Spinelli cast Dante in the worst possible light as he described the events leading up to Michael's prison sentence. When Jason walked in, Spinelli was happy to tell him that he has spilled the beans about Dante's heinous behavior to Brenda. Jason sent Spinelli to his room and gave Brenda a less biased account of the actions that had been taken after Claudia's death. He told Brenda that there was plenty of blame to go around and that he, Carly, Sonny, and Sam had all conspired in the cover-up. He said that he blamed himself the most because he had taught Michael, and he was responsible for how Michael had grown up. 11/16 At Jake's, Jason questioned Siobhan about her time spent as the Balkan's captive. Jason wondered if Siobhan recalled anything of significance that might help them locate the Balkan. Lucky demanded to know what was going on when he spotted Jason questioning Siobhan. Jason explained that Siobhan had recalled the Balkan's men had mentioned the name Jack while she had been held a prisoner. Siobhan quickly clarified that she had told Jason and Lucky everything that she knew. Jason reminded Siobhan how important it was to catch the Balkan, so he asked her to call him if she remembered anything else. After Jason left, Siobhan was curious if Jason was Brenda's boyfriend. She was stunned when Lucky admitted, "No." Siobhan thought that Jason and Brenda were involved because they fought like an old married couple and Jason had gone through a lot of trouble to keep Brenda safe. "Are you saying that the only person worth risking your life for is someone you love?" Lucky wondered. Siobhan smiled sheepishly, but didn't answer. Jason showed up at Sam's apartment to apologize to her for keeping secrets. Sam hated it because she felt that it put up walls between them, but she understood that Jason was doing what he had to. Sam accepted Jason for who he was and understood that he was protective of those who mattered to him, which included Brenda. Jason insisted that he loved Sam. After they kissed, Sam and Jason started to make love, but Jason's phone rang; it was Brenda asking to see Jason immediately. Jason arrived at the penthouse a short time later. Brenda explained that Carly was determined to expose Brenda's secrets, which threatened to blow Dante's life apart. Jason seemed to realize the enormity of the situation with Carly. Later, Jason saw Brenda sitting at the dinning room table, deep in thought. 11/17 At Jason's penthouse, Jason instructed Spinelli to research the Balkan's possible connection to someone named Jack. Spinelli worked diligently on the laptop, but couldn't find anything. Jason suggested that Spinelli widen the search. A short time later, Spinelli discovered someone named Gabor Jacovick, which might be an abbreviation for Jack. Jason suggested that Spinelli start with that name and then move on to any other possible suspects. A knock at the door heralded Maxie's arrival. Maxie hoped that Brenda wasn't there, but Spinelli revealed that Brenda was in her room, doing yoga. Maxie immediately began to complain about Brenda. She suggested that Spinelli's crush on Brenda had moved from embarrassing to delusional. Spinelli argued that Brenda had "regenerated" Spinelli's shattered heart. Maxie insisted that Brenda was using Spinelli and probably didn't even realize that he existed. Maxie wanted Jason to confirm that Brenda was a spoiled diva, but Jason refused to get involved. Spinelli confessed that Brenda had showered him with kind words from her lips. "You want lips?" Maxie demanded to know. "I'll give you lips," she insisted and then passionately kissed Spinelli. Afterwards, Maxie assured Spinelli that "fantasy Brenda" couldn't hold a candle to her. Jason smiled after Maxie stormed out of the penthouse because he realized that Spinelli had played Maxie. However, he was curious why Spinelli hadn't admitted how he felt about Maxie. Spinelli explained that Maxie would only respond if she had to fight for him. Jason feared that Spinelli had been spending too much time with Carly. Michael showed up to talk to Jason about Carly. Michael wanted Jason to stop Carly from going after Dante. Jason advised Michael to focus on his own life instead of getting sidetracked by other people's agendas. He promised Michael that he would take care of things if Carly got into trouble. At the Metro Court Restaurant, Carly was happy to see Jason enter the restaurant. Jason recognized the look on Carly's face, so Carly didn't bother to deny that she was scheming against Dante. Jason wondered if Carly had considered how her plans might affect Michael. Carly insisted that she would never hurt Michael. Jason warned Carly that she was making things worse by going after Dante because Michael had bonded with Dante. Carly argued that Dante had sent Michael to prison, which continued to affect Michael. Jason didn't disagree, but he insisted that Michael could talk to Dante and that she needed to respect the relationship that Dante and Michael had formed. Carly vowed that she would always hate Dante for what he had done to Michael. Jason didn't have a problem with that, but he begged her to leave Dante alone. Jason insisted that they all had to make sacrifices for their children. Carly assured Jason that she wasn't lifting a finger to hurt Dante, but she couldn't be held responsible for something that Dante had done to himself. 11/18 At Jason's penthouse, Dante was surprised to learn that Brenda had been asking for him while she had been sick in Africa. Suzanne was curious why Dante and Brenda had kept their association a secret. Dante started to explain that he hadn't thought that Brenda had remembered him. However, Brenda entered the room and immediately made it clear that her trip to Africa was never to be discussed. Suzanne started to explain herself, but Brenda asked to speak privately to Suzanne. After Dante left, Brenda made it clear that Suzanne was not to snoop in her private business again. At the Metro Court Restaurant, Jason warned Carly to stop scheming against Dante. He was certain that it would blow up in her face. "Not this time," Carly confidently told Jason. According to Carly, she was the one telling the truth. Jason wondered what that was supposed to mean. Carly promised him that he would soon find out, but Jason insisted that he didn't have time to clean up her disasters. Jason demanded to know what Carly was planning. Carly avoided Jason's questions by claiming that she needed to speak to Olivia about important work-related business when she spotted Olivia enter the restaurant. Jason made it clear that he expected to see Carly in his penthouse within half an hour. After Jason left, Olivia was curious what Carly had done to anger him. Carly didn't seem concerned as she explained that Jason never stayed mad at her for long. Jason arrived home to find Brenda waiting for him. Brenda wanted Jason to have Dante reassigned because she claimed that he was a constant reminder of guns and blood. Jason wanted to know what was really going on, but Brenda stuck to her story. Jason explained that Jax had ordered police protection for Brenda, so Brenda decided to call Jax. Jason told her not to because it would only aggravate Carly further, but Brenda insisted that she didn't care about Carly's insecurities. Brenda once again insisted that she didn't want Dante around and then stormed out. Carly arrived at Jason's penthouse as ordered, even though she wasn't thrilled at the prospect of Jason yelling at her. Jason assured her that he didn't have any intention of yelling. Carly suggested that Jason talk to Brenda to warn Brenda to stay away from Jax. Jason admitted that he had talked to Brenda and that his guards would let him know if Brenda visited Jax. However, Jason wanted Carly to stop obsessing and move on. Carly wanted Brenda out of Port Charles, but Jason made it clear that it wouldn't happen any time soon. He was curious why Carly always had to make things harder than they had to be. Carly claimed that she was just trying to protect her marriage, so it would be easier with Brenda out of the way. Jason didn't need Carly to make matters worse. Carly resented how Jason bent over backwards for Brenda when Brenda had been lying to him. Jason demanded to know what Brenda had lied about. Carly revealed that Brenda and Dante had an affair in 2007. Jason stared at her in disbelief. "That's right, Sonny's great love was banging his firstborn," Carly smugly clarified. 11/19 At Jason's penthouse, Jason sternly told Carly to drop her vendetta. Carly defended herself and said that she could prove that Brenda and Dante had engaged in an affair in 2007. She explained that a former cop, along with Dante, had guarded Brenda during that time, and that Dante had never denied to his partner that he had slept with Brenda. Jason still didn't believe it and told Carly to leave it alone. Jason updated Sonny on Brenda's situation. Jason apologized for having taken Brenda back to Port Charles. She'd told him that it would be too painful for too many people, but Jason had thought she'd be safer there. Sonny wondered if he hadn't left Brenda at the altar, if they would have had a family. Brenda walked into Jason's to find Suzanne, who questioned Brenda about Dante. Brenda said it was absurd to think that she and Dante had ever been romantically linked, because he was Sonny's son. "What does that have to do with anything?" asked Suzanne. Suzanne wanted to know why Dante, who had been doing a superb job of protecting Brenda, had been reassigned. As an irked Brenda left the penthouse, she replied that, every time she saw Dante, she thought of Sonny. Later, Jason informed Dante that Brenda had fired Dante. Dante understood and said he wasn't worried about himself, but he was about Brenda. Jason said that was a problem. He let Dante know that Carly had proof of Dante and Brenda's affair years before. 11/22 At the penthouse, Jason asked Dante if he had slept with Brenda. He said he needed to know so that he could do damage control. When Dante denied sleeping with Brenda, Jason said that Carly believed that he had. Jason told Dante that Carly was out for revenge and would not stop digging until she uncovered the truth. Dante said he could handle Carly's hatred, but wondered why she would put so many lives in jeopardy should the Balkan find out that Brenda had killed his son and Dante had helped cover it up. Jason said that Carly could be very vindictive when her children were hurt. Dante asked Jason to intercede with Carly. Jason said that she could probably be convinced to keep silent until Michael's probation was over so that Michael would not suffer. Jason added that Carly's thirst for revenge would drive her to make sure that Brenda and Dante's crimes were eventually revealed and punished. Spinelli glided into Jason's place with a bouquet of flowers that he had purchased on orders from Brenda. Jason was upset with Spinelli and told him that his job was to find the Balkan, not buy flowers and run errands for Brenda. When Spinelli tried to sing Brenda's praises, Jason said that he did not want to hear about Brenda. Jason took flowers to Robin and said they were from Brenda. They laughed and talked until Jason got a phone call from Max, who informed him that Brenda and Sonny were together in Sonny's old apartment. Jason told Max to interrupt them, but Max said that he would not cross Sonny. When he hung up, Jason said he had to go break up Sonny and Brenda, but Robin persuaded him to stay with her and give Brenda and Sonny a chance to resolve their past. 11/20 In Robin's hospital room, Jason and Robin talked about Sonny and Brenda. Jason was worried about where Sonny and Brenda's relationship was headed, but Robin thought that their friends would have to work things out for themselves. Robin confided that a part of her wanted Sonny and Brenda to work things out because Robin and Stone had been denied a happily ever after. Jason argued that Sonny and Brenda weren't always good for each other. Robin admitted that she didn't think that Sonny and Brenda had ever gotten over each other and never would. Eventually Jason and Robin's conversation drifted to their love affair. Robin was grateful for everything that Jason had done for her. She realized that it had taken them a while to get to a good place, but she was happy that they had made peace with their past. Jason regretted that Robin had moved to Paris after the truth about Michael's paternity had been revealed. Robin softly smiled as she reminded him that she had moved back, so it had worked out. The conversation took a lighthearted turn when Jason talked about his experience on the red carpet with Brenda. Robin laughed as Jason insisted that it had been an "awful and horrible" experience. At Jason's penthouse, Molly and Spinelli put the finishing touches on their plans to surprise Jason and Sam with a romantic evening. Molly was grateful for Spinelli's help because she didn't want Jason and Sam to drift apart. Spinelli assured her that it had been his pleasure. In the hallway, Jason and Sam bumped into each other. They quickly figured out that they had been set up when they realized that neither had called the other to arrange to meet. Jason and Sam entered the apartment to find Spinelli and Molly waiting. Jason and Sam were sent to the bedroom to change into some dressy clothes. After Jason and Sam returned to the living room, Molly explained that Jason had been neglecting Sam, so Jason needed to get his priorities straight. Sam assured Jason that she hadn't said anything to Molly. Molly clarified that it had been obvious to her. Molly and Spinelli seated Jason and Sam at a candlelit table for two. Molly handed Jason a list of "approved romantic activities," while Spinelli proudly pointed out that they had champagne and hors d'oeuvres for the couple. Spinelli then drove Molly home, so that Jason and Sam could be alone. Sam promised Jason that she hadn't put Molly up to it, but Jason conceded that only Molly could dream up a stunt like the one that they had walked in on. Jason referred to the list to see what Molly had written. The first suggestion was for Jason to pour a glass of champagne and then to toast to Sam's courage and beauty. Sam covered her face with her hands to hide her embarrassment. Sam realized that Jason had work to do, so she let him know that it wasn't necessary for him to indulge Molly's whims. Jason admitted that he liked the idea of spending time with Sam, but he wanted to make his own toast. Jason raised his glass and then declared his love for Sam before he complimented her on her beauty. Sam was touched by the heartfelt words. Later, Sam wondered what was next on the list, but Jason thought that it was time to toss the list aside. Sam didn't want to disappoint Molly, but Jason insisted that he had followed the first five suggestions. It was clear that Sam wouldn't let him off the hook, so Jason stood up and then held out his hand. Sam smiled as she accepted the unspoken invitation to dance. "Are you happy?" Jason wondered as they gently swayed to the soft music. "Very," Sam answered. 11/24 Sam went to the hospital to enlist Robin's help. Sam explained that Kristina and Molly were determined to have Alexis and Mac spend Thanksgiving together. Sam revealed that her sisters were frustrated because Alexis and Mac had only gone out on a few dates, so their relationship hadn't progressed far enough for Mac and Alexis to have made plans to spend the holiday together. Robin was eager to lend a hand. Maxie walked through the door and announced that Mac had stubbornly refused to join her. Spinelli carried in a load of wood seconds later and then stopped short when he spotted Maxie. Maxie and Spinelli smiled shyly as they greeted each other. Spinelli beamed as he sat down next to Maxie, while everyone took their seats for dinner. They were all pleasantly surprised by the last-minute arrival of a guest. Mac quickly stepped forward to take the turkey when Alexis entered the dinning room with the holiday bird. Alexis smiled with embarrassment as Sam and Kristina jumped up to invite Mac to sit at the head of the table. 11/29 Brenda conversed with Jason at the penthouse. She told him that she was happy for the first time in a very long time. Brenda said that she had told Sonny about killing Aleksander and about Dante's part in the killing. She said that Sonny had told her to forgive herself. Brenda said that she was going on a date with Sonny and wanted to know what Jason thought about it. Jason hedged and said that he would stay out of her personal life and focus on the Balkan. Brenda said that she cared what Jason thought. She tried to get him to wish her well, but Spinelli interrupted before Brenda could get a response from Jason. Spinelli immediately offered to make tea, but Jason said that they had to get over to Sam's office to meet Lucky and Dante. Spinelli refused to go when Brenda said she wanted tea with a shot of whiskey, so a frustrated Jason left alone. Lucky met Sam at her P.I. office. He told her how grateful he was that she had space for him, Jason, and Dante to work and search phone records for a trace of "Jack." Lucky said that listening to Siobhan relive her captivity had made him angry all over. When Sam smiled, Lucky wanted to know why. Sam said it was good to see him invested in someone again. She said it was a sign that he was getting over Elizabeth and moving on. Sam said that Siobhan had no relationship to anyone in Port Charles, so it was a fresh start and wondered what more Lucky could ask for. Dante and Jason arrived at Sam's office to find Lucky working on the phone records. When he could find nothing relating to "Jack," Jason suggested looking for who had claimed the body of the Balkan's son, Aleksander Janacek six month before. When Lucky refused to proceed until he knew everything that Jason knew, Dante told Lucky what had happened with Brenda three years before. Lucky approved Dante's actions but worried that Carly would eventually spill the beans. He appealed to Jason for help. When Lucky was unable to unearth any new clues using the name Aleksander Janacek, Jason suggested that "Jack" might be a last name instead of a first name. Sam was on the phone, making arrangements to do some undercover work at the local strip club, when she unlocked her apartment and went to the bedroom to change clothes. A man, wearing black gloves, whose face was not visible, stepped out from behind a screen in the living room. **The End** |
