DVD #19A
October 31 - Sam arrived in the warehouse district to meet Jerry. When she
heard a noise, she pulled her gun for a confrontation. Instead of Jerry
she ran into Jason, just as an explosion went off in a trash bin on the
corner where she had been standing. The force sent them both flying. Jason
recovered quickly, but Sam had some cuts and scrapes. Jason helped Sam
back to his penthouse. While she took care of her wounds, she told him the
story about her undercover work on the drug ring and about how Jerry had
set her up with the police. Jason told Sam that she should let the police
handle the matter, but Sam was determined to get the goods on Jerry. Jason
looked through the peephole when someone knocked on his door and spied
Jerry. He motioned for Sam to hide. While Sam eavesdropped, Jerry told
Jason that he had come over to do him a favor. He said that he wanted
Jason to know that Sam had been doing business with Karpov and that she
had stolen from him. Jerry was concerned that Jason might feel compelled
to break his truce with Karpov and retaliate if something happened to Sam.
Jerry said he wanted to head that off by letting Jason know the facts
ahead of time.
Jerry tried to convince Jason that he was only there to make sure the
truce with Karpov wasn't broken because of Sam. Jason wasn't fooled and
told Jerry that Mr. Craig would be the first to die if a war broke out.
Jerry noticed blood on the papers on Jason's coffee table and said there
was satisfaction in dealing with someone who was utterly predictable. Once
Jerry was gone, Sam came out of hiding and told Jason she didn't want to
cause trouble for him. She asked to see the piece of the detonator from
the bomb, and Jason handed it over. He wanted to have Spinelli check it
out to see if there were any similarities between that bomb and the one
from the Metro Court explosion.
Sam told Jason her suspicions about Jerry being involved with Karpov and
the illegal drug smuggling. She didn't have any evidence, but she was
certain Jerry was in business with Karpov. Jason thought Sam was in over
her head and should go to the police, but Sam said she had no real
evidence. She told Jason about the clinic fire, also. The clinic was where
Nadine, Nikolas, Lucky, and Sam had always met to discuss the drug
smuggling. They had been getting close to finding answers when the fire
was set. Sam was more determined than ever to get the evidence against
Jerry on her own. When Sam arrived home, her cell phone rang, and it was
Jason checking to make sure Sam had made it home okay. She said she was
home, but Sam dropped the phone when Jerry came out from the shadows and
put his hand over her mouth.
Jerry wrestled the phone away from Sam, disarmed her, and held her at
gunpoint. Jason was on the other end of the line when Sam's phone went
dead. When Jason dialed back and got voicemail, he rushed over to Sam's.
While Jason was on the way, Jerry told Sam his plan to take her away and
have Jason running around in circles looking for her. Sam thought Jason
would rescue her, but Jerry predicted that Jason would arrive to check on
her any minute. He told Sam that if she did not pretend to Jason that
everything was okay with her, he would kill Jason. When Jason knocked on
Sam's door, Jerry hid behind a screen with his gun aimed at Jason. Sam
told Jason that nothing was wrong and that she had hung up on him because
she was over him and did not want to see him any more. Jason seemed
puzzled by Sam's answers, but left when she insisted.
Jerry smirked and gloated after Jason left. Sam struggled when Jerry tried
to drug her, but he succeeded in pumping a needle into her arm. As Sam lay
on the couch, nearly immobile, she struggled to get to her cell phone, but
Jerry intervened and took it away from her. As Jerry tidied up the living
room to remove any signs of his struggle with Sam, she managed to retrieve
the bomb fragment from her pocket and drop it as a clue. Jason was in his
penthouse talking on the phone to Bernie when he saw a suspicious drop of
blood on a file folder. He realized that Jerry might be on to Sam and
rushed to her apartment. Sam and Jerry were gone, but Jason found the clue
that Sam had left behind. On Jerry's freighter, a drugged Sam asked Jerry
where they were going. He told Sam that it was her last trip. Jerry then
showed Sam the bomb he planned to kill her with. While Sam appeared
momentarily stunned, Jerry taunted her. He said that she would go out with
a bang.
At the penthouse, Jason handed Cody the detonator from the bomb that had
been planted at Sam's meeting place. He wanted Cody to track the purchase
of the device. Jason stepped out of the elevator at GH and inquired after
Robin. Maxie told Jason that Emma was healthy, but Robin's condition
remained grave because of a blood clotting disorder. Jason knocked on the
door to Robin's hospital room. Patrick stood up and invited Jason into the
room. When he told Jason about Robin's condition, Jason offered him hope.
He told Patrick that Sam had suffered from the same condition and had made
a full recovery. Patrick appreciated Jason's attempt to ease his worries
and asked Jason to stay with Robin for a few moments while he stepped
away. After Patrick left, Jason sat down at Robin's bedside and took her
hand in his. He reminisced about their past and the impact that Robin had
on his life. He was interrupted by Anna's arrival. As Jason gathered his
things and prepared to leave, Anna stopped him. She told him what he was
to Robin and assured him that she would let Robin know that he had stopped
by for a visit.
Jason enlisted Spinelli's help to find Sam and expose Jerry. They broke
into Sam's apartment and were soon interrupted by a knock at the door. It
was one of Sam's neighbors. When they explained that Sam was missing, the
woman revealed that she had seen Sam earlier with one of her boyfriends.
Jason produced a picture of Jerry and showed it to the neighbor. She
confirmed that he was the man she had seen Sam with. She went on to tell
them that she suspected that Sam and her beau were in an amorous mood
because Sam had been draped all over the man. Sam woke up on a ship and
found Jerry hovering over her. She soon realized that she was not only a
prisoner, handcuffed to a bed, but in mortal danger. Jerry appeared to
take perverse delight in telling her that he intended to kill Sam by the
end of the day. Sam tried reasoning with Jerry, to no avail. Sam found a
chink in Jerry's armor when she mentioned Jax and Alexis. Jerry readily
admitted that he did not want to hurt either and applauded Sam for her
insight. Sam took advantage of the opportunity and tried to convince Jerry
to become allies rather than remain enemies. Before Jerry walked out, he
said that he would consider it. The moment Sam was alone she renewed her
efforts to escape. She managed to find something to pick the lock on her
handcuffs but she only made it to the door before Jerry stopped her. He
had anticipated the escape attempt. Jerry returned Sam to the bed and
replaced the handcuffs. Jerry then showed Sam the bomb he planned to kill
her with. While Sam appeared momentarily stunned, Jerry taunted her. He
said that she would go out with a bang.
Jason went to the Metro Court to tell Jax his suspicions about Jerry.
Unfortunately, Jax wasn't interested in hearing about Jerry's latest
escapade. He told Jason that people like Sonny, Carly, and Jerry always
went from one dramatic event to the next. Jason was on his own, but Jax
did authorize Jason to go up to Jerry's room to see if there were any
clues. After searching Jerry's room, Spinelli and Jason went back to
the office to decide on their next move. Jason wasn't surprised that
nothing had come of their search. It was almost as if Jerry had cleaned
the room so nothing of interest could be found. Spinelli decided to search
the Internet for any recent sales in the Port Charles area of the parts
that were used to make the bomb detonator Jason had found. It wasn't long
before Spinelli had a hit. One of Jerry's aliases had purchased a lot of
explosives and they had been delivered earlier in the day. Jason and
Spinelli wondered aloud what Jerry was planning to blow up and how Sam was
involved.
Meanwhile, Jerry appeared to be assembling a bomb as Sam did her best to
convince him to let her go. Sam promised she knew all different kinds of
places they could go to where no one would find them. Jerry said those
types of places were boring and Sam would escape at the first chance,
anyway. He promised he would take her to a place she couldn't escape. They
would be mourned, not hunted. As Jerry fiddled with the bomb, he started
to count backwards, causing Sam to scream. Suddenly, Jerry stopped
counting and started laughing. He told her he wasn't ready to die yet, so
he planned to time to explosion just right so he could still escape. Jerry
wouldn't blow the boat up until he received his payment and the shipment
was secure. Sam asked if he was trying to fake his death so Jason and
Karpov wouldn't come after him. Jerry thought it would be best for
everyone involved, including Jax and Alexis, to think Jerry had died. As
Jerry worked on his bombs, Sam asked questions about his plans. Jerry
decided to play a game and threw one of the bomb's detonators to Sam. He
told her each time she caught the device, she could get an answer to a
question. Sam's first question was about the plan specifics. Jerry said he
planned to blow up the ship with enough product for everyone to think the
entire shipment had been lost. Sam's body and Jerry's planted DNA and
blood would make everyone think he had also been killed in the explosion.
Jason and Spinelli were in Jason's office trying to figure out whether or
not Sam had gone with Jerry willingly or if she was his hostage. They
managed to trace the clue Sam left behind and found that someone using one
of Jerry's aliases had purchased a large quantity of explosives. Jason and
Spinelli decided that the evidence pointed to Sam's being Jerry's hostage.
As they were trying to figure out where Jerry had taken Sam, Spinelli's
computer notified him about a false distress call from a boat in the
harbor. When he checked the report, they recognized the boat owner's name
to be the same as the alias that Jerry had used to buy the explosives.
They immediately began trying to locate the freighter.
Jerry kept Sam handcuffed to a bunk while he played a sick game with her.
He answered her questions as long as she caught the explosives he tossed
at her. As Jerry gloated about his plan to kill her and fake his own
death, Sam managed to activate the radio and send a distress signal while
his back was turned. When the Coast Guard announced they were responding
to the distress signal, Jerry slapped Sam. When the Captain boarded, Jerry
apologized and offered to pay the fine imposed for a false distress call.
Jerry said that he and his girlfriend had accidentally sent the distress
call during a boisterous lovemaking session. When the captain asked about
Jerry's girlfriend, Jerry told him that she had run to the shower because
she was so embarrassed. The captain could hear the water running and when
Jerry offered to bring the girlfriend out and let her tell her story, the
captain was convinced that Jerry was telling the truth, and he left the
boat. A very seasick Spinelli did his best to help Jason, but he was
unable to accompany Jason due to his illness. Before Jason took off to
look for Sam, Liz called and told him Robin had stabilized. He was
thankful for the call. Liz asked if he wanted to meet up later, but he
told her he had to work. When he hung up the phone, Spinelli saw the smirk
on Jason's face and asked if he had just spoken with the "maternal
one." Jason smiled but said they weren't going to talk about Liz. He
rushed off before Spinelli could tell Jason to be careful. Jerry prepared
to head back to shore, but took the time to compliment Sam on what a
worthy adversary she had been. Speaking about his past schemes, she had
been the only one who thought to pull the silent alarm during the Metro
Court crisis. Things could have turned out differently, but Sam would
still end up at the bottom of the ocean floor. Jerry handed Sam a cooled
cup of coffee before leaving for another shipment of drugs.
Once Jerry was gone, Sam tried desperately to get out of the handcuffs by
using a screw she had found. She dropped the screw and tried to retrieve
it but was unable to reach it. Meanwhile, Jerry approached Spinelli, who
asked where Sam was being held. Jerry said Sam was waiting to take a
pleasure cruise with Jerry once he got back. Spinelli didn't believe him
and threatened to tell Jason. Jerry pointed out that Jason was nowhere in
sight, and Jerry asked what Spinelli intended to do to keep Jerry there
until Jason returned. Spinelli tried desperately to fight Jerry, but
Spinelli was knocked out with one punch. Jason returned to find Spinelli
still unconscious. When he awoke, Spinelli told Jason about being knocked
out by Jerry. Fortunately, Spinelli had been able to place a tracking
device in Jerry's pocket before the young man had been knocked out. Jerry
returned briefly to the ship and seemed to enjoy baiting Sam for the last
time. He left her alone again to set the rest of the explosives on the
ship. Soon, Jason found the room where Sam was and set to work getting her
free. Jerry walked in, though, and held them both at gunpoint. Jason put
his hands in the air and left his gun sitting on the bed next to Sam. She
finished getting out of the handcuffs and grabbed the gun, shooting at
Jerry. Jason and Jerry struggled and the men fell onto the explosive
device that had been left in the cabin. The device started the countdown.
Sam and Jason rushed to get off the boat, while Jerry struggled as his
legs became tangled in netting. Sam and Jason escaped the freighter by
flinging themselves overboard moments before an explosion rocked the
harbor. They left Jerry behind struggling to reach the detonator. As soon
as they were clear, he stopped struggling and smirked.
Sam and Jason walked into Jason's penthouse. They were dripping wet. Maxie
started making wise cracks and jumping to conclusions. Rather than explain
that they had survived by swimming away from an exploding freighter, Jason
asked Maxie to leave. After Spinelli left for errands, Jason and Sam got
into dry clothes. A few minutes later, Elizabeth came to the door. When
Jason opened it, Elizabeth was angry to see Sam and wanted to know what
she was doing with Jason. Elizabeth turned to Jason for answers. She
wanted to know why his ex-girlfriend was able to cozy up to his fireplace
while Elizabeth could barely get past the front door. Jason realized that
Elizabeth was hurt and he told her that about Jerry kidnapping Sam.
Elizabeth turned to Sam and told her that she was glad that Sam was okay
but wondered why she hadn't gone to Lucky for help. Sam started to
explain, but seemed to realize that Elizabeth and Jason needed to work
things out for themselves. She quickly gathered her things and left the
apartment.
As soon as they were alone, Elizabeth admitted that it had bothered her
that he and Sam had an adventure. However, she was more concerned by the
fact that Jason hadn't trusted her enough to tell her about it. Jason
explained that it hadn't been a matter of trust, but rather an effort to
protect Elizabeth, that had prompted the lack of details. "But it's
okay to involve Sam?" she asked, to which he replied, "No."
With the matter of trust raised, Elizabeth decided to tell Jason about the
decision to reveal the truth about Jake's paternity to Laura. Jason was
stunned. Elizabeth didn't regret her decision. She told Jason that when
she was faced with her lies again, she had been filled with an
overwhelming sense of regret. Jason appeared uncomfortable with the
confession and asked her what she was trying to tell him. Elizabeth told
Jason that she loved him and wanted the freedom to express her feelings
for him without having to sneak around on the side. She went on to tell
Jason that they needed to be completely honest and begin living that
truth.
She reminded Jason of the time that he had asked her how Jake would feel
when he learned that the adults around him had lied. Elizabeth realized
that Jason had been right to be concerned about Jake's reaction. She no
longer wanted to risk hurting Jake like that. Instead, Elizabeth wanted
Jake to grow up knowing that Jason was his father. Jason reminded
Elizabeth of the danger that they would face if Jason claimed Jake as his.
Elizabeth understood Jason's fear but reminded him that Michael and Kate's
shootings had been a result of Sonny's choices, not Jason's. Sensing
Jason's reluctance, Elizabeth put everything on the line and asked Jason
if he wanted to be with her or not. Jason only took a moment to tell her,
"Yes." Elizabeth was overjoyed as Jason pulled her into his arms
and kissed her. The two began talking about their future, until Elizabeth
noticed the time. She told Jason that she had to pick the boys up from
daycare, then asked him over for dinner later that evening. Jason happily
accepted, and gathered his things after Elizabeth left. He was on his way
out the door when a knock at the door changed everything. Cody told Jason
that Karpov was dead and that Sonny had been arrested. Before Jason could
absorb that information, Cody announced that Karpov's men had made their
move and began to retaliate. Jason called Elizabeth to cancel their date.
Elizabeth turned off her phone when Jason began telling her that it would
be too dangerous to see her. With the call disconnected, Elizabeth gave in
to her fury and threw the phone across the room. On the other side of
town, Jason stood in his penthouse, holding his phone. His expression was
pensive.
Sam returned to her apartment and found Lucky waiting. When he asked her
where she had been, Sam was disappointed to realize that Lucky had feared
that Sam had jumped bail. Their spat was short-lived. A short time later,
Sam returned to her living room as Lucky wrapped up a call on his cell
phone. He told Sam that a few of Jerry's personal effects had been found,
but not a body. As the two talked about Jerry, they cleared the air. Sam
told Lucky that she loved him and never had any interest in Jerry. Lucky
apologized for his behavior and the two kissed.
Maxie told Jason about the Russians who had destroyed Kelly's and beaten
Mike. Jason wanted to know if Maxie would be able to identify the men, and
Maxie thought she would be able to at least identify a tattoo she noticed
on the men who had spoken with Russian accents. Maxie had not told her
Uncle Mac what she knew, though. Jason complimented Maxie and told her she
had done well. In the same breath, though, Jason told Maxie she needed to
leave. She had proven she couldn't be trusted. Due to her friendship with
Spinelli, Maxie was permitted in Jason's home and place of business. This
caused Maxie to hear things she shouldn't hear. Maxie's actions with Liz
had upset Jason and he would not allow Maxie to treat Liz as she had. Once
Maxie had stormed off, Spinelli apologized for Maxie and promised he would
not reveal any confidential information to Maxie anymore. Jason said he
would not dictate who could be Spinelli's friend and who could not be.
However, Jason saw Maxie as having some Carly-like qualities. Both Maxie
and Carly couldn't think past the person who most recently hurt their
feelings and how to exact revenge on that person. He would not allow Liz
to be a casualty of Maxie's attitude. Bernie updated Jason on the status
of their transport yard and said it was totally unsalvageable. Jason's men
were angry that Sonny had caused retaliation on their organization. Jason
asked Bernie to set up a meeting so he could alleviate his men's concerns,
but Bernie had already set it up. The meeting was too early, so Jason
asked Bernie to push it back one hour. Bernie asked what was more
important than meeting with their men.
Sam soon stopped by GH and wanted to talk to Liz. She explained to Liz
that Jason's rescue of Sam was totally random. Sam had no intentions of
rekindling her romance with Jason. Sam felt lucky to have come to a place
in her life where she and Liz could actually get along, and Sam liked
being able to be around Lucky and Liz's boys. Liz apologized for
overreacting, and the two women talked about the problems in their own
relationships. After talking about how she and Jason couldn't seem to
reconnect, Liz asked out loud if love was enough. Sam seemed to support
Liz and Jason's relationship and reminded Liz that Jason truly did love
her. Jason stopped by the hospital to see Liz, but she told him she was
busy. Just like his work was important, Liz said her work was equally as
important. Jason heard the bitterness in Liz's voice and said he deserved
her comments. He would wait on the roof to speak with her once she got a
break. Soon, Liz met with Jason and apologized for her behavior. She
didn't want to be a "bitch" and she knew it was a possibility
they would never be together. Jason said she didn't have to apologize. He
loved her, but he wasn't sure Liz understood the reality of his life. He
wasn't a regular guy with a regular life. Jason stopped and suddenly
noticed from up on the roof that his office was on fire. Unknown to Jason,
Olivia (Kate's cousin) was trapped inside his office. Sonny happened on
the scene as the barista stumbled out. He told Sonny that Olivia was in
the office. Sonny went in to get her. Jason arrived on the scene in time
to help them both out of the fire. The paramedics arrived and Olivia was
taken to General Hospital.
Meanwhile, Maxie went to see Sam and told her about what she did to Liz.
They talked about loving danger and the way Sam used to be. The girls had
no idea that one Karpov's men, who had seen her at Kelly's, was following
Maxie. Sam and Maxie exchanged girl talk while the thug sent by
Sasha lurked outside the door. Maxie apologized to Sam for sending
Elizabeth to Jason's. Sam denied that she felt anything other than
friendship for Jason, but Maxie was not convinced. They talked and
laughed, then noticed the door of Sam's apartment opening. Instead
of Sasha's henchman, it was Lucky. Maxie was flabbergasted when Lucky and
Sam told her that their break-up had been a ruse to find out about the
drug ring. Maxie said her goodbyes and left Sam's place. The thug, who was
hiding around the corner, followed her out of the building.
Sonny and Jason talked as the fire crew worked to put out the coffeehouse
blaze. Sonny told Jason that they had to retaliate. Jason told Sonny that
there was no "we." He also said that there would be no need to
retaliate if Sonny had not killed Karpov. Sonny said that he had no
choice, because Karpov had stabbed him and tossed him in the harbor. Jason
maintained that Sonny was at fault for jumping to conclusions in the first
place. Jason said that he would do what he had to in order to protect his
men. He said that Sonny was on his own against Karpov's mob. Spinelli
intercepted Lucky as he tried to talk to Jason and Sonny, but Jason said
it was okay. When Lucky asked what happened, Jason said to talk to his
lawyer. Sonny, however, spilled the beans and told the truth about what he
knew as Jason watched. Sonny walked away and so did Lucky. Jason
told Spinelli to get to his computer and start finding out everything he
could that would help them combat the Russians. After Spinelli left for
the apartment, Cody arrived.
Jason told Cody that it was time to strike against the Russians. Jason
also said that when he was done, no one would ever dare come after him
again. Before he could say more, Elizabeth arrived on the scene. Liz
walked up as Jason was giving orders to Cody. Once they were alone, Liz
hugged Jason, thankful he was okay. Jason told her it wasn't a good time
for her to be around him. Liz explained that two of her patients had died
that day. She was with a man when he was told his fiancée had passed. He
cried for the time he had missed spending with the one person who meant
more than anything else to him. Lucky was walking into the crime scene
when he saw Jason and Liz talking. He immediately walked over and
chastised her for being seen at a crime scene with a known mobster. She
was undoing everything he had done by declaring himself as Jake's father.
Lucky escorted Liz back to the hospital where Sam was waiting. Sam wanted
to know details about the fire. Jason went to visit Olivia as she and Kate
were talking about Sonny and Dante. He offered to pay for Olivia's medical
bills, but Kate said she would be taking care of her cousin's medical
expenses. Kate also told Jason that she and Sonny had broken up, and that
Sonny was planning to marry Claudia in order to gain the Zacchara family's
power. Later, Sam met up with Jason and tried to convince him to let her
help with the Russians. She reminded him that she had been spending time
with them and working with them on her undercover drug bust. Sam wasn't
like Liz, and Sam thought Jason wasn't in the position to turn down help.
A tired and distraught Spinelli returned to Jason's apartment. He was
putting Jason's gun away when Jason found him. He told Jason that he
wanted revenge for Maxie. Jason told Spinelli to let him handle it.
Spinelli thought it was because Jason thought Spinelli was a wimp, but
Jason said no, it was because hurting someone else left a dark, dirty hole
in the heart and he did not want Spinelli to feel the darkness. Before he
could say more, Bernie called and an unconvinced Spinelli used the call as
an excuse to exit Jason had no choice but to talk to Bernie. He told
Bernie to get everyone ready to retaliate for the harm done to Jason's
property and friends. Jason met with Cody and told him to get all the men
prepared. Jason intended to call a meeting with Sasha for the ostensible
reason of making a truce. Once she was in the meeting, Jason intended to
attack the warehouse where her remaining men were housed. Jason told Cody
to make sure there were no civilians inside and then Jason wanted to make
sure that none of the Russians left the warehouse alive.
Sam went to Sasha, who was running the Karpov gang, and asked for a job.
Since Sam had worked for Karpov before, Sasha told her to come back to the
warehouse later because she had a job for her. Sam met Lucky on the docks
and told him that she had a job with Sasha. Lucky wanted her to stand
down, but she insisted that she was the only one who could do the
undercover work necessary to stop the drug smugglers. Sam showed up at
Karpov's warehouse and got a piloting job with Sasha, who told her to hang
around until it was time to go to the ship. Sasha left for her meeting
with Jason. Sam was told to wait in the corner as Sasha's men opened a
crate of guns and each took one. Outside the warehouse door, Jason, Cody,
and their men prepared to enter the warehouse. When Jason opened the door,
they entered with guns blazing and Sam was caught in the crossfire.
Gunfire was exchanged between Jason's men and the Russians. Sam was caught
in the middle and tried to scramble to safety. She had managed to get her
hands on a gun when Jason came around a corner. She fired her gun but
missed Jason. Jason was surprised to see Sam and demanded to know what she
was doing in the warehouse. He didn't give Sam an opportunity to answer as
he hustled her to safety.
Jason and Sam arrived at the house. Jason pulled Elizabeth aside and
quickly explained that the Russians were retaliating and a mob war had
broken out. He wanted her to pack up the children and go into hiding along
with Sam. Sam tried to bring Lucky up to date on what had transpired at
the warehouse. A phone call from the police department interrupted her.
When Lucky ended the call, he questioned Jason about the shootout at the
warehouse and the dead bodies found inside the torched building. Jason
said little beyond that he did what he had to do. Lucky insisted that the
women and children be taken to a remote cabin that Lucky knew of, rather
than one of Jason's safe houses. Everyone agreed, and Elizabeth went
upstairs to pack a few things and fetch the boys. After Jason left, Sam
sensed that Lucky was troubled. She wondered if he was mad at her, but
Lucky didn't answer. Later, as Elizabeth and Sam loaded the back of
Elizabeth's car, Sam asked Elizabeth not to blame Jason for leaving.
Elizabeth seemed genuinely confused by the advice, and clarified that she
did not have a problem with Jason's abrupt departure. Lucky walked around
to the back of the car and told Sam and Elizabeth that he had received a
call from Mac. Mac wanted Lucky to follow up on a lead that they had
received on the Russians. Elizabeth told Lucky to go. She assured him that
they wouldn't have a problem following the directions to the cabin. As
Elizabeth, Sam, and the kids pulled out of the driveway, a Russian thug
stepped out from behind some bushes. He reached for his cell phone and
placed a call.
Jason returned to his penthouse. Spinelli immediately realized that Jason
was a man on a mission. Jason explained that with Elizabeth and the
children safely out of town, he could focus on the mob war and eliminating
the Russian threat. Spinelli confided in Jason that he had taken one of
Jason's guns and tried to avenge Maxie's injuries from the Russians.
Spinelli was upset because he couldn't be the hero for his love, Maxie. He
had drawn his gun on two Russians down by the docks but froze up and
couldn't shoot them. If Johnny hadn't shown up, Spinelli probably would
have been killed. Jason told Spinelli that he didn't need to shoot anyone
to be Maxie's hero. Spinelli was too smart for that. Jason told his friend
that if he wanted to be Maxie's hero, Spinelli needed to stay true to the
man that he was. Olivia showed up at Jason's penthouse and asked him to
let Sonny back into the mob business. Jason said he wouldn't talk business
with Olivia, especially since he hardly knew her. Olivia thought Jason
should make peace with Sonny before something terrible happened. If Sonny
married Claudia, Kate would be devastated. Olivia knew Sonny and Jason
must have had a close friendship for them to have worked together all
those years. She couldn't believe Jason wanted Sonny in alliance with the
Zacchara family. They were interrupted when Ric knocked on the door. He
was shocked to see Olivia there, but he told them he had interesting news
for both of them. Sonny had agreed to marry Claudia and take over the
Zacchara organization. Jason asked if Ric was telling him that to warn
him, but Ric said he was just telling Jason so that if he wanted to stop
it, he would get moving.
Sam and Liz drove towards the cabin Lucky had set up for them, and made
small talk along the way. Sam talked about camping with the boys until
suddenly they heard a loud bang. At first they thought it was a gunshot,
but it ended up just being a blown tire. Sam quickly changed the tire so
they could get on their way again. Liz thanked Sam and said she had been
apprehensive at first about hiding out with Sam. Both women admitted to
being a little jumpy when the tire blew, but they smiled as they seemed to
bond. Once they arrived at the cabin, Liz got the boys settled in and
called Jason, while Sam unloaded the car. Jason was furious when he
learned Lucky had not gone with them to the cabin. He still had his doubts
about whether or not Liz would be better off at one of his safe houses.
Liz said they were fine, but their cell phones didn't work. She gave Jason
the phone number to the cabin before he had to get off the phone. While
Sam was outside gathering firewood, she heard enough rustling in the
leaves to know they were not alone. Sam went inside the cabin and locked
the door before telling Liz that they had been followed. Liz picked up the
phone to try to dial out, but the phone line had already been cut. Sam
told Liz they were on their own. After Jason hung up the phone from
speaking with Liz, he answered the door to find Detective Harper. Jason
was being arrested for murder and arson.
Mac put a handcuffed Jason in the interrogation room of the Port Charles
Police Station. He blamed Jason for all the mob violence in Port Charles
and vowed that Jason would pay the ultimate price. Diane visited Jason at
the Port Charles Police Station. Jason wanted out of the clink and told
Diane that they had no evidence against him. Diane spied Alexis outside
talking to Mac and feared that getting Jason out on bail might be a hard
sell. Diane went to talk to Alexis and Mac. Alexis took her aside
and advised her to drop Jason as a client. Alexis said that Jason was
going to pay for all the violence that was going on in Port Charles, and
that Mac intended to hold Jason until they had evidence against him. Diane
scoffed as they walked to the interrogation room. Alexis told Jason that
she knew that he was supposed to be the "good" mobster, but that
no longer held any sway. She told him that he was going to pay and that he
could count on going away for a long time.
Sam, Elizabeth, and the boys were having fun at the cabin in the woods.
Sam went outside for firewood and noticed a man hiding in the bushes. She
calmly took some wood inside and locked the door. When Elizabeth tried the
phone, the line was dead. Sam told her they were on their own. Sam helped
Elizabeth move mattresses over a bedroom window to make a safe room for
the boys. They built a fort and played a game that kept the boys
entertained and willing to stay hidden. Sam found a shotgun and gave
Elizabeth her handgun. As they waited, Elizabeth blamed herself for not
listening to Jason's advice to stay away from him. Sam told her to focus
on their survival and let the adrenaline kick in. When Elizabeth asked,
Sam told her that she would lay down her life rather than let harm come to
Elizabeth's children. Sam and Elizabeth waited for the Russians to strike,
but nothing happened. Just when Elizabeth started hoping that the killers
had left or that Jason and Lucky would show up in time to help them, the
quiet was broken as a gunshot came through the window, scattering broken
glass all over the living room floor and barely missing Sam.
Jason waited in the interrogation room as Diane and Alexis argued over
whether Jason would be released or not. Diane thought Alexis was just
being hard on Jason because of Jerry. She had turned a blind eye to
Jerry's dealings, so someone had to take the fall. Alexis said she owed it
to the public to do her duty as prosecuting attorney. Spinelli
interrupted the two attorneys when he came in and asked to speak with
Jason. At first, Alexis said Jason couldn't have any visitors, but Diane
said she was just being spiteful. Spinelli said he had an alibi for Jason,
and an exasperated Alexis said she knew Spinelli would lie for Sonny,
along with a group of other people. Alexis finally relented and left the
room with Diane to give Spinelli five minutes with Jason. Once they were
alone, Spinelli told Jason he had learned his lesson and decided not to
try to be like Jason. Spinelli realized his technological prowess was what
Jason needed, and he hacked into INTERPOL and created a file saying the
bombing was from a rival gang in another country. As they talked, an
INTERPOL agent could be seen from the interrogation room talking to Alexis
and Diane and showing them paperwork. Soon, Alexis and Diane came back
into the room and told Jason he was free to go. INTERPOL was taking over
the investigation and confiscating all the evidence.
As soon as Jason was released, he talked to Bernie and said he needed to
check on Elizabeth and the boys. He tried calling the cabin but the phone
line was out of order. Jason decided to go check on Elizabeth, Sam, and
the boys in person. Meanwhile, Sam and Elizabeth were doing their best to
keep the Russians at bay. Sam came up with the strategy to be quiet and
make the Russians think the girls were dead. Sam and Elizabeth would lie
in wait and shoot them as they entered the door. Elizabeth asked how Sam
could take another person's life, and Sam told her about her upbringing
and how she first shot a person when she was only eight years old. Sam's
theory about lying in wait for the Russians seemed to be working but was
very slow. She killed one Russian before Cameron started to yell out for
his mother. Liz needed to get to her boys and calm them down. Sam promised
to protect them, or die trying. When Liz got back from checking on
the kids, she was forced to shoot a mobster herself. She was upset about
taking another human life, but Sam pointed out that the very same man Liz
had shot would have easily killed them if he had not been shot first.
Unfortunately, the Russians changed tactics and decided to kidnap Jake.
Jason pulled up just as Liz discovered her missing son. She screamed for
Jake and told Jason to get her baby back.
Jason learned that the Russians had kidnapped Jake. Sam jumped in the car
with him and they took off after the kidnappers, who were ahead by only
minutes. Sam reloaded her gun from Jason's ammo supply. She managed to get
a cell phone signal just long enough to call the police and send them to
Elizabeth and get an APB out on Jake. Sam apologized for watching when
Jake had been previously kidnapped and not doing anything. She said she
would do anything to make sure that Jake was returned safely. She told
Jason what had happened at the cabin and how Elizabeth had saved her life
by shooting one of the kidnappers before he could shoot Sam. Jason
despaired because he had not spotted the black van the kidnappers were
using, but knew of an abandoned mine nearby that the Russians were reputed
to use. Sam feared that it might be a trap. Jason said that regardless, he
had to go, and that there could be no other reason to take Jake except to
make Jason come to find him. Sam and Jason found activity at the Russian
mine. Sam distracted a guard and Jason knocked him out. They got past two
other guards to get into the mine, but once inside, found it deserted.
They were about to leave when Sam found Jake's shoe. As they were
examining it, they heard a loud rumbling noise. Before they could react,
the tunnel caved in on them.
Elizabeth kept Cameron safe at the cabin. She was startled when she heard
a knock on the door, but relieved when it turned out to be Lucky. She told
him everything that had happened and her worries about Jake. A trooper
took Elizabeth's statement at the cabin. She became frustrated when he
asked her if she had heard from Sam or Jason since they had gone off after
the kidnappers, and was very frustrated when she explained again that
there was no cell signal and the phone lines had been cut by the
kidnappers. Jason and Sam were trapped by a cave-in. As they removed rocks
from the passageway, they talked about their plans to locate Jake and
whether or not Jake was kidnapped because the Russians knew he was Jason's
son. Sam thought it was because Cameron had stayed hidden as Elizabeth had
asked, but Jake had not, so he was easily taken. Jason said that even
though he suspected the kidnapping was a trap for him, he had to go after
Jake, anyway. After another near cave-in, Jason and Sam were able to clear
a pathway through the rocks. They escaped the cave and headed for Jason's
car.
Alone in her office, Sasha had a conversation by speakerphone with a
mystery voice that wanted to know if Jason would be able to find the
location where Jake was being held. When Sasha assured him that Jason
would find Jake, she got orders to have Jason killed. Sam and Jason
located the Russian warehouse. They snuck around to the back and spotted
Jake through a window guarded by several Russians. Jason told Sam that
calling the police was too risky because the police might make a noise,
alert the Russians, and get Jake killed, instead of rescued. Jason told
Sam that they would have to rescue Jake themselves. Inside the shack where
Jake was being held, a Russian mobster showed Sasha that bombs had been
set all around the place. He handed her a remote detonator. All she had to
do was get Jason Morgan there. Sam convinced Jason that she was his best
bet to get Jake out safely. Sam went into the shack and told the head
Russian mobster that she was there looking for work. She used to work for
Karpov on one of his ships. She knew he was dead, but she needed a way to
pay her bills. She was just as good on ground as she was on a ship. Sasha
walked in and asked Sam what she was doing there. The last time Sasha had
seen Sam was right before the warehouse had blown up. Amazingly, everyone
had perished except Sam. Sasha wondered if Jason had saved her. She
remembered that Jason and Sam had a history together. Sam assured Sasha
that Jason had used her and they no longer had feelings for each other.
Sasha seemed convinced and said she might have a job for her. Sasha left
to get the information and Sam asked for a drink. She started to go around
the bar where one of the bombs was mounted but the mobster stopped her.
Sam held up her hands and apologized.
Jason headed towards the back of the shed to check on Jake and was almost
caught by the man in charge of watching Jake. He headed back to the front
of the shack and started to enter. A man yelled out to him and they
exchanged shots. Jason fell to the ground. The man walked up to Jason to
check his pulse, and Jason grabbed him and broke his neck. Jason revealed
a bulletproof vest as he pulled the shell out of the vest. Meanwhile, Sam
was inside and asked to visit the bathroom. The main Russian mobster
frisked her before allowing her to leave. Sam located the room where Jake
was being held and threw a flask at the door. That caused the two guards
to run out, looking for whatever had caused the noise. Sam used that
opportunity to go in and rescue Jake. Unfortunately, Sasha was close
behind and pulled a knife out on Sam's throat. She said she knew Sam was
too good to be true. During a musical montage, Jason entered the shack and
started firing at anything that was moving. Sam was busy in the back of
the shack, fighting off Sasha. Jason thought he had killed all the
mobsters, but the main Russian was still alive behind the bar. He set the
remote detonator off and blew Jason out of the shack. Stunned, Jason stood
up and realized what had happened, yelling out for Jake.
At the roadhouse, Jason had a shootout with the Russians while Sam fought
hand-to-hand with Sasha and baby Jake played with blocks. Jason shot all
the Russians, but one of them managed to trigger a bomb under the bar
before expiring. The explosion threw Jason clear, but the bar area was an
inferno. As the front of the building collapsed, Jason called for Jake.
Jason was at his car searching for firefighting tools when Sam called out
that Jake was safe. Sam explained that Sasha had not finished the fight
with Sam but had fled instead, so Sam had grabbed Jake and dived through a
window just before the explosion. Jason was overcome with emotion as he
held his son. He told Sam that they were even. He thanked her sincerely
for saving Jake.
Jason had tears in his eyes as he drove Jake and Sam back to town. Sam
talked and played with Jake. Elizabeth called and talked to Jake, and Sam
assured her that he was okay. It was a joyous homecoming when Jason and
Sam arrived at Lucky's. Elizabeth was radiant as she held a healthy,
unharmed Jake in her arms. Liz, Lucky, and Cameron rushed outside as Sam
and Jason were bringing Jake back home. Everyone was very excited to see
Jake again, but Jason was clearly uncomfortable. Lucky took the boys
inside to get snacks while Liz thanked Jason and Sam. Jason tried to say
Sam was the true hero, but Sam said Jason was the one who found where Jake
was being held. Liz didn't care about the specifics; she was just thankful
her boy was safe. Liz went inside to allow Lucky the chance to come out
and properly thank Jason and Sam. When Lucky came outside, he hugged Sam
and thanked God she was okay. Lucky asked what had happened, and Sam and
Jason briefly recapped rescuing Jake. Lucky was upset they hadn't called
the cops, but Sam said they did what they thought was best at the time.
Lucky decided it was time to get back inside, but asked Jason to make sure
Sam got home safely. Lucky went in the house and read a book to Jake and
Cameron with Liz at his side. They all agreed that they liked being back
together.
As they drove, Jason asked Sam if she was okay. Her hip was hurting a bit,
but she was glad to be alive and happy Jake was safe. Sam said she hoped
Jake was okay, but he had acted calm and steady. Actually, she thought
Jake acted a lot like his father. Jason said he didn't want Jake to be
like him. He didn't even want Jake to remember who he was. Sam said Jason
was being too hard on himself, but Jason blamed himself for setting off
the explosion. It wasn't the first time he put his son in danger, but it
would be the last. When they arrived at Sam's, Jason thanked Sam for her
role in saving Jake's life. Sam admitted that she owed Jake and Elizabeth
for the past, but Jason said that was over. Sam thanked Jason for the ride
and they went their separate ways. Sam met Alexis at the hospital so that
she could apologize and tell her what had really happened with Jerry.
Alexis said that she was glad that Sam had told her everything, but that
she already knew. Alexis said that she was playing Jerry just like he
thought that he was playing her. Sam was amazed and touched when Alexis
said that the drug charges against Sam were being dropped and that she
would never have allowed Sam to be prosecuted. They shared a tender,
familial hug.
Jason arrived home and was talking to Spinelli about Jake's rescue, when
Maxie came downstairs at the penthouse where she had spent the previous
night in the guest room. Before Maxie could make much of an explanation of
why she was there, Jason told her that it was not safe for her to be
around him and she had to go elsewhere. Jason explained to Spinelli
why he did not want Maxie in their place. He told Spinelli that Jake would
have died in the explosion if it had not been for Sam's quick thinking.
Jason blamed himself for triggering the explosion. He thought that the
explosion was a result of the gunfire. He did not know that the bomb had
been deliberately set off by one of Sasha's henchmen. Jason was very
regretful and said that he did not want anyone else hurt because of him.
He said he did not want his son to know anything about him. Diane
showed up and told Jason to get dressed because he had a meeting downtown
with the Feds. Spinelli was gone when Jason came beck downstairs in a
suit. Jason wanted to know if Diane had taken care of some private
business that he had asked her to handle and to keep confidential. Diane
said she had done as he asked, but that business could wait so that Jason
could concentrate on the upcoming meeting. Diane told Jason that the Feds
wanted to question him about the shootout at the roadhouse. She told him
that his usual silent treatment would not work because he would be looked
at as arrogant and would face every charge they could throw at him. Diane
advised Jason to be honest and tell the truth about what really happened
at the Russian roadhouse.
At the courthouse, Sam and Jason waited to be interviewed by FBI Special
Agent Thomas Rayner. As they sat outside his office, Sam and Jason talked
about Jake's rescue. Sam was happy that everything had worked out, but
confessed that all the pressure, tension, and split-minute decisions made
the aftermath seem flat. She likened it to the end of the Wizard of Oz
when everything returned to black and white. Then she realized that Jason
probably never saw the movie, and therefore wouldn't understand what she
meant. She was wrong; Jason admitted in a sad voice, that he knew exactly
what she meant. When they were seated in Agent Rayner's office, the
questions began. Jason and Sam kept the self-incriminating information to
themselves and gave the agent an edited version of what had transpired.
The agent wasn't completely fooled and asked them whose decision it had
been to rescue Jake without calling the police. Jason and Sam each took
responsibility. Sam went on to explain that it had been the only viable
option under the circumstances.
The agent then moved on to the deaths of the men found at the scene. He
pointed out that not all of the five men killed had died in the explosion.
One had a broken neck and several others had died of gunshot wounds.
Again, Sam and Jason gave him a watered down version of what had happened.
In the end, the agent concluded that they had acted in the defense of a
child, and cleared them of any wrongdoing. Before Sam left the courthouse,
she let Jason know that she intended to go after Sasha. Jason said nothing
as she walked away. A moment later, Diane walked up. As she was talking,
Elizabeth arrived at the courthouse. Diane quickly realized that Jason
wasn't paying any attention to her; his entire focus was on Elizabeth.
Diane felt that it wasn't the appropriate time for the lovers to have a
heart-to-heart talk, but Jason ignored her. Diane walked away as Jason
approached Elizabeth. When he sat down with her, Jason told Elizabeth that
he wanted her to ask Agent Rayner about the five men who were killed.
Jason wanted Elizabeth to hear the gory details so that she could
understand that Jake could have met the same fate as some of the men who
had died if Sam had not rescued him in time.
Sam arrived home to her empty apartment. As she started to walk into her
bedroom, someone knocked at the door. It was Lucky. As soon as Sam opened
the door, Lucky pulled her into his arms and apologized for not seeing her
sooner. He felt that it wouldn't have been right for him to leave Jake so
soon after his return. Sam was understanding, and invited Lucky inside.
Things took an uncomfortable turn when Lucky went to kiss Sam and she
pulled way. Lucky leaned in to kiss Sam, but she pulled away. He
asked her why she pulled away from him, and she made up an excuse about
hurting her hip during Jake's rescue. Lucky immediately wanted to take her
to the hospital, but Sam said she would be fine. She told him about when
she testified to the Feds and that they were dropping all the charges
against her. Lucky thought that was wonderful until he realized she wasn't
done with the Russians. Sam said she had a gut feeling and she couldn't
just drop it. He thought she should leave the investigating up to the
cops, but Sam wanted to do it herself. Lucky also suggested Sam become a
cop, but they both knew she would never be hired because of her criminal
background. Besides, Sam said she preferred to work without rules. Lucky
decided he would leave and go to work, but Sam said they would talk later
over dinner. She was sure they would work something out that they could
agree upon.
At the courthouse, Jason tried to explain to Elizabeth why they could
never see each other ever again. He explained in graphic detail how Sam
rescued Jake and how their little boy could have died. Liz couldn't
understand why Jason was reliving their nightmare, but Jason said Liz
needed to know why their relationship was ending permanently. Liz
understood, and apologized for not listening to him all the other times he
tried to warn her. She had just wanted to be with him. Jason tried to take
some of the blame from her and said they were both at fault. He would
never have any contact with her, Jake, or Cameron ever again. He set up a
trust fund and paid off the house Elizabeth was renting. Liz didn't want
to take his money, but Jason said it was the only thing he could do. He
would never see his son again, and Jake wouldn't have Jason's last name.
He wanted to at least support his family. Liz promised to give their son a
good, safe life. She also apologized for not listening to him and for
putting their family in danger. Jason said they were both at fault.
Jason arrived home and started working out by punching his punching bag.
Carly soon arrived and asked him why he hadn't returned any of her phone
calls. It only took one look for her to realize something was seriously
wrong. Jason explained that he would never see his son again after
realizing the risks he put Jake through just by associating with
Elizabeth. When they were rescuing Jake and the shack exploded, all Jason
could think about was that he was watching his son die. He realized no one
was safe anymore-no one. When Spinelli arrived home, he started to tell
Jason about Maxie's new apartment. Jason said he couldn't talk about
Maxie, because he needed Spinelli to focus on getting information about
the Russians. Spinelli said he had a file about Karpov already, so Jason
thought they should start there. Jason asked if there were any other
apartments available in Maxie's building, but Spinelli didn't think so.
Jason thought it might be a good time for Spinelli to move out, also.
Spinelli was concerned that he had upset Stone Cold, but Jason revealed he
was just worried about Spinelli's safety. Spinelli said he would only be
in danger if he left Jason's penthouse. As they talked, they were
sidetracked and didn't notice the message that appeared on Spinelli's
laptop, saying files had been copied.
Sam hid and watched as Sasha and her guard walked into a building. As soon
as the coast was clear, Sam got into their vehicle to look through files
that were kept in the back. It didn't look like she was finding anything,
but suddenly, Sam heard the door slam and knew Sasha was coming back. Sam
ducked down and listened as Sasha's phone rang. Sasha told the caller it
might not be as easy as they thought to eliminate Jason Morgan. Sam
followed Sasha to the docks and overheard her telling her minions that
their Russian bosses were not happy that Jason had survived the explosion.
Before they could say more, Alexis arrived and told Sasha that she was a
person of interest. Sam feared for Alexis but stayed hidden. Sasha traded
words and threats with Alexis, who showed no fear, even as Sasha's
henchmen bracketed her. Alexis told them to back off or she would press a
button that would send a text message that would have the police there in
two minutes. Alexis left soon after, but not before telling Sasha to watch
out because she was in a very precarious position. After Alexis left,
Sasha told her goons to go after Jason again and to make sure they got
him.
At the penthouse, Spinelli told Jason that he would not move out because
of the danger posed by his living arrangement. Spinelli felt he could help
Jason best by being close by to provide his cyber skills. He also
encouraged Jason to ask for Sonny's help. Jason said that he did not want
to ask Sonny because he was not sure that they were friends. He said that
Sonny had changed since Michael had been shot. Jason said Sonny felt
betrayed because Jason had sided with Carly and insisted that Sonny give
up custody of his sons. While they talked, someone copied the files from
Spinelli's computer unnoticed. When an FBI agent knocked on Jason's door
and wanted to talk, Spinelli took his computer and skedaddled. The agent
told Jason that they had a big file on him. The agent said that Jason had
been an upright citizen until he had an auto accident that caused brain
damage when he was twenty. The agent said that he was in the position to
offer Jason a deal. The agent told Jason that he could have immunity
immediately and leave organized crime, or, if he chose to continue in his
occupation, his actions would become a very low priority for law
enforcement. The agent said that Jason would not even have to testify. All
Jason had to do was give the agent information that would bring down both
Sonny and Anthony Zacchara. Jason told the FBI agent that he would have to
talk to his lawyer. The agent told him not to take too long, because the
offer would not stay on the table. As he left, the agent told Jason that
eventually he would cooperate; it was just a matter of time until the FBI
found the right lever to ensure his compliance.
Sasha told Sam she was tired of Sam being a constant thorn in her side.
Sam tried to convince Sasha and her goons that she could be used to get to
Jason but Sasha pointed out that she had already tried that with Jake. Sam
said Jason would retaliate if she turned up dead but Sasha disagreed.
Jason was too busy trying to hold onto his territory to fight for an
ex-girlfriend. They took Sam to a wooded area and Sasha asked Sam if she
had any last words. As Sam talked, she managed to get a small knife out
and lunged at one of the goons. She took off running in the opposite
direction as quickly as she could. Sasha yelled at her goons and they
attempted to shoot at Sam as she ran away. Sam continued to run until she
fell into an apparent trap and was knocked unconscious.
Diane wanted to know about the deal the Feds had offered Jason. He
explained he would get full immunity in exchange for information about
Sonny and the Zacchara family. Diane was shocked that he would get such a
good deal and said he would be a fool not to take it. Jason said it wasn't
a deal someone in his position took. Diane told him he would eliminate all
the competition by turning Sonny and the Zacchara family in. Jason would
be able to raise his children in a town free from enemies. Jason said he
already took care of Elizabeth and Jake, but Diane made a good point that
Elizabeth and Jake weren't necessarily any safer with Jason out of their
lives. Jason said Sonny had been like a father to him. The least Sonny
deserved was Jason's protection, and the more Jason thought about it, the
more he realized he should have offered more.
Jason arrived at Sonny's house after Sonny had already left. Max let him
in and Claudia offered him a drink. Claudia thanked him for not marrying
her previously, because it had freed Claudia up to marry Sonny. It had
been one of the best moves she had made. Claudia told him about Sonny's
decision not to retaliate against the Russians until Jake was safe, and
Jason said he wouldn't have expected anything less from Sonny. Claudia
said it was time for Sonny to step up and take the reins to lead their
organization. Jason asked if she was insinuating that Sonny make a move
against him. Claudia decided she should take a message for Sonny
because she wasn't sure when her husband would be back, but Jason said he
had to speak with Sonny in person. Claudia reminded Jason it was too late
for him and Sonny to make up, and Jason asked if Claudia spoke for Sonny.
It wasn't that long before that Claudia couldn't stand Sonny. Claudia said
she and her new husband were finding common ground. She thought maybe it
was good that Jason was making the first move. Maybe Jason and Sonny could
coexist. Sonny walked in and asked Jason what he was doing there? Jason
said he thought they needed to talk, but decided there wasn't anything to
say. Jason did thank Sonny for not acting against the Russians while Jake
was kidnapped. Before Jason left, Sonny congratulated his former friend on
his son coming home safely. Once alone, Claudia said she couldn't
understand Jason. He had waited all that time to speak with Sonny, and
then only said two words before he left. Sonny said that Jason realized he
had forced Sonny to make an alliance with the Zaccharas. Jason had
essentially forced Sonny to become his enemy.
At the penthouse, Jason had an intense workout with his punching bag and
then showered. When he came downstairs, he found Lucky knocking on his
front door. As soon as Jason opened the door, Lucky barged in and asked if
Sam was with Jason. Before he realized that Jason was alone, Lucky's
jealousy began to rear its head. He started to ask Jason about what had
happened between Jason and Sam during their attempt to rescue Jake, but
then seemed to think better of it and changed the subject. He told Jason
about his dinner plans with Sam and how she had not shown up or called.
Jason asked a few important questions and learned that Lucky and Sam had
argued about her insistence to pursue the investigation against Sasha.
Realizing that Sam could have met with foul play, Jason decided to
investigate Sam's disappearance. Jason had Spinelli use his skills to
locate Sam. Spinelli was able to discover that Sam's last call had been to
Jason. Spinelli suggested that perhaps Sam had merely taken off to be
alone after her argument with Lucky. Spinelli had a theory that the time
Sam had spent with Jason might have rekindled old feelings. Jason
dismissed the possibility. He told Spinelli that Lucky and Sam had argued
about Sam's determination to bring down Sasha, not how she felt about
Jason. Jason thought that she was the key to finding Sam. When Spinelli
received an alert that Sasha had recent activity on her cell phone, he
told Jason.
DVD #19B Sasha called Jason and told him that she knew where
Sam was. She wants to meet with Jason on the pier in an hour. Spinelli
opposes this idea, sure it is a set up. Jason tells him that if Spinelli
can find Sam that Jason won't have to meet with Sasha, but otherwise he
has no choice but to meet with Sasha. She warns Jason that he is Sam's
only chance of surviving. As soon as Jason was off the phone, Spinelli
made a comment about Jason's sudden attentiveness to Sam. Jason said he
owed it to her after she saved Jake. Sam woke up in what appeared to be an
abandoned mineshaft. She tried to climb out, but her the fall had
aggravated her old hip injury. She was unable to escape the shaft so Sam
tried to build a fire. She managed to gather the materials, including a
book of matches, but the task proved to be too difficult. She was
unsuccessful at starting the fire, so Sam crawled into a corner and tried
to rest. After Sam fell asleep, she had a dream about Lucky. He was
crouched nearby before a fire. When Lucky asked her if she loved him, Sam
told him yes, but Lucky faded away. Sam awoke with a start and looked
around. She made another attempt to climb out of the shaft but was greatly
hindered by her injury. Sam was trying to get up off the ground. She was
obviously in a lot of pain and collapsed in tears.
Sasha seemed surprised that Jason actually met her. Sasha explained that
Sam had escaped when Sasha was trying to drive her out of town. Sam ran,
fell, and got trapped. Sasha decided to turn lemons to lemonade and use
Sam's misfortune to get Sasha's escape paid for. Sasha figured she was
only alive because there was no one left to run the business since Karpov
had been killed. The Russians would soon be pulling out of Port Charles,
and Sasha wanted Jason to finance her escape from Port Charles before the
Russians killed her. Jason called Bernie and had funds wired to Sasha's
account. He wanted to know where Sam was. Sasha said she was relieved to
be done with Port Charles. She started to go on, but Jason grabbed her and
told her to tell him where Sam was. He had given her what she wanted, so
Sasha needed to do her part. Alexis appeared in a dream-like state to Sam
and told her to get up. She would freeze to death if she didn't keep
moving. Sam said no one would miss her if she died, but Alexis said Sam
knew it wasn't true. Sam wanted her mother to save her, but Alexis said
she couldn't. She was appearing to Sam in a dream to tell her what she
already knew. Sam could save herself, but she had to get moving.
Sasha was about to tell Jason where to find Sam when a sniper shot her.
Jason held her and demanded that she tell him where to find Sam. With her
dying breath, Sasha said the words, "white rock." Jason quickly
left Sasha and the crime scene. Sam was cold and hurt, and she fell asleep
and dreamed that she had stopped Jake's kidnapper when he was taken from
the park, instead of standing by and saying nothing. A tear fell on her
cheek as she slept. Sam was startled awake. She forced herself to get up.
She tried to hobble around the pit she was in, but fell to the ground
instead. Spinelli was on the phone frantically trying to locate Jason,
when Jason arrived at the penthouse. He informed Spinelli that Sasha had
been killed in an ambush and asked him to make an untraceable call to
9-1-1. As soon as that was done, Spinelli began a search for the words
"white rock," he found several matches, but a quarry outside of
town seemed most promising. Jason and Spinelli left to check things out.
Jason found Sam in the quarry just in time. He leaped into the pit and
woke her up. Spinelli came prepared with a thermal blanket for Sam. As
Spinelli waited for the EMTs, Jason tried to keep Sam awake. Jason told
Sam to keep talking. Sam told him about her vision and how much she
regretted letting Jake be kidnapped from the park. She was crying as she
told Jason how sorry she was. When Sam awoke, the first name she uttered
was Jason, but it was Lucky walking into her room at that moment. Lucky
told her that hypothermia had been everyone's main concern with Sam and
her hip was fine. Jason knew enough to keep Sam's temperature from
dropping any lower while they had waited for the ambulance. Sam started to
apologize about calling him Jason and said he had been the last person she
saw before she passed out. Lucky said he was more concerned about why she
kept getting herself into positions where she needed saving. Sam said
Sasha had been instrumental in Jake's kidnapping and had tried to kill Sam
more than once. Sam wasn't going to wait around for Sasha to strike again.
Lucky couldn't understand why Sam hadn't trusted him enough to tell him
what was going on, but Sam said she knew what he would have said. Lucky
sarcastically said he understood why she wouldn't keep going to someone
who never said what she wanted to hear, and he walked out.
Spinelli woke up and was relieved Jason was back, safe and sound. Jason
told him the war was over and the Russians were leaving town. Spinelli
asked if that meant Sonny and Jason would reconcile, but Jason avoided
answering the question. Spinelli commended Jason on the carefully placed
explosions from the previous night that were causing all the Russians to
leave town. Spinelli started to leave to get ready for the Scorpio/Drake
wedding, and Jason said he would not be attending the second round. He
didn't want to bring any violence to Robin on her wedding day. Spinelli
understood and said he would bring Jason's good wishes to Robin. As
Spinelli was going upstairs, he turned to ask Jason again about
reconciliation with Sonny. Jason said he wanted peace with Sonny, but he
wasn't sure if it was still possible. Maxie arrived at Jason's penthouse
to pick Spinelli up for the wedding and Jason let her in. He asked if
everything was going okay, and Maxie said the odds were already stacked
against Patrick and Robin with all the mob influence in their town.
Spinelli came downstairs to hear Maxie ranting and raving and asked why
she was in such a tizzy. Maxie said history always repeated itself, so she
was sure something would go wrong.
Claudia was standing on the fireplace hearth, searching for something,
when Jason walked in and asked what she was doing. Claudia immediately
became defensive and asked if Jason were there for a pre-emptive strike.
She asked if he was trying to break into the house, but Jason said he
always looked into a room before he entered. He asked why she was acting
so weird. Claudia was saved when Sonny came home and both he and Jason
realized they had stayed away from Robin's wedding for the same reason.
Jason told Sonny about his strike against the Russians. Sonny wouldn't
need the Zacchara family anymore, and Jason wanted Sonny to end the
alliance.
As Alexis brought her daughter home from the hospital, Sam told her about
her strange dreams when she was suffering from hypothermia. Sam had dreamt
Alexis was there urging her to live. She thanked Alexis, even thought it
had been a dream. Alexis was happy her daughter was okay. When they opened
the door, Lucky was sitting on the couch. Alexis asked what was going on
between the two of them, and Sam admitted they had not really broken up.
Suddenly, everything made sense about Sam's involvement with the drug
shipments and Jerry. After Alexis left, Sam asked Lucky what the status of
their relationship was. They were briefly interrupted when Lucky talked on
the phone to Cameron about Christmas. Once he finished up, though, Lucky
said he wanted to get back to the place where he and Sam could trust each
other. Sam said she wanted the same.
Jason visited Sonny and begged him to leave the Zaccharas. Sonny was all
for it if Jason was willing to give him back the top spot in the
organization. When Jason refused and reminded Sonny of why he took over in
the first place, Sonny accused Jason of being power hungry. When Jason
said it was not true, Sonny picked up a phone and told his men to land
their shipment at Pier 17. Since Pier 17 belonged to Jason, Sonny's action
was a slap in the face, and Jason was dumbfounded by Sonny's bold
behavior. He wondered aloud how Sonny could do such a thing on Michael's
birthday. Then Jason questioned whether or not Sonny even remembered it
was Michael's birthday. Sonny responded with a snarl. He told Jason that
he thought about Michael every day and that the hurt and guilt he felt
would never go away. Jason backed off. He told Sonny that in remembrance
of Michael he would not stop Sonny from using his pier on this one
occasion. He warned Sonny that if the Zacchara organization tried to use
Jason's shipping lanes again, he would take the same punitive action
against Sonny that he would take against any other interloper.
Jax went to Sam's apartment to ask her about Jerry. She told him about her
undercover work and how Jerry had kidnapped her and shared his plan to
kill her, blow up the ship where he was holding her, and fake his own
death. Jax wanted to believe that Jerry had survived. Sam said it was
highly unlikely, because she and Jason had left Jerry tangled in a fishing
net and had barely made it off the ship before it had exploded. Jax clung
to the possibility that Jerry might be alive. He apologized to Sam for
Jerry's actions, but Sam said she had chosen to go after Jerry, and her
actions might have been responsible for his desperation. She told Jax that
Jerry always spoke well of him and she knew that despite all the bad
things that Jerry had done, he genuinely loved his brother. Jax took some
comfort in that.
Jason rushed over to Sam's apartment after she called him. She told him
that FBI Agent Rayner had called trying to get information out of her
about Jason and his associates. She told Jason that she was sure that she
had evaded the questions successfully. Jason told Sam that Rayner had
tried to get him to give up Sonny, but he had refused. When Jason still
did not understand why Sam had called, she told him it was because Agent
Rayner had started asking questions about Spinelli and, even though she
had dodged them, she was worried that Spinelli was on the FBI's radar.
Jason was also concerned by Rayner's inquisitiveness.
Sam called Jason again and left him a message telling him that she found
Agent Rayner's business card from the FBI under her door. She was
suspicious and was going to check things out. There was a knock at her
door and Lucky was walked in. He wanted to explain why he had never shown
up for New Year's Eve. Liz was having problems with her hot water heater
and it would have cost a fortune to have a plumber come out on New Year's
Eve. Later, he was called in to work overtime at the police department.
Sam insisted she understood, but Lucky was insistent that he didn't want
to keep any secrets between the two of them. He immediately realized she
was hiding something from him and asked what was going on. Sam didn't want
to talk about it. He asked if it was something illegal, but Sam insisted
that it wasn't. He left, still frustrated that he couldn't find out what
was going on with Sam. Later, Spinelli stopped by and worried Sam when she
noticed how upset he was about his computer being hacked.
Maxie knocked on Sam's door, and Sam seemed exasperated when she answered
the door. Maxie said she had been getting that reaction a lot that day,
like she was the third wheel. Except Maxie said she wasn't anyone's third
wheel. Sam realized Maxie needed someone to listen, and warned her friend
that she probably wouldn't have any good relationship advice given the
status of Sam's love life. Maxie explained that a new girl was stalking
Spinelli. Sam asked if it was romantic, but Maxie didn't think that it
was. Sam told Maxie that it sounded like Spinelli and Winifred had a lot
in common. That common ground could be powerful. Both Maxie and Sam knew
what it was like to feel like an outsider, how when you finally met
someone who was similar you didn't have to act phony anymore. Maxie said
she had always been the girl who stole boyfriends from other girls, not
the other way around. Quickly, Maxie corrected herself and said that
Spinelli was just a friend. She still didn't want to lose him, though.
Once Maxie was gone, Sam called Jason and left a message for him to call
her. It was important and she really needed to talk to him, but she didn't
want to leave a message. Lucky walked in as she was finishing the message
and asked what she needed to talk to Jason about. Sam didn't want to go
into it, but Lucky got mad. He asked her how she would feel if he was
having private conversation with an ex he used to live with. Sam pointed
out that Lucky still communicated with Liz, but Lucky felt that was
different because they were raising two boys together. Lucky started to
storm off, but Sam did her best to stop him. Lucky said he wanted her to
stop treating him like the enemy. He was tired of being on the outside
looking in.
Lucky and Sam stood outside his house after he had seen her looking in at
him and Elizabeth playing a video game. Sam told Lucky that she had wanted
to talk to him about their relationship but had decided that it could wait
since he was busy with Elizabeth. Lucky got the impression that Sam was
upset and told her that what she saw between him and Elizabeth was not how
it appeared. Sam brushed it off and said that she understood. She told him
to call her when he was free, and then walked away. Sam showed up at
Maxie's apartment after her friend called her. Maxie was upset because
Winifred had warned Maxie to stay away from Spinelli. Maxie was convinced
that Winifred was a cyber-stalker. Sam suggested that perhaps Winifred was
simply interested in Spinelli as more than just a friend. Maxie dismissed
the possibility outright. She insisted that there was more to Winifred
than met the eye. Sam entertained the possibility, and asked Maxie if
Winifred knew Jason. Maxie admitted that Winifred's interest in Jason only
went as far as the computer game that Spinelli had designed. Maxie then
switched gears and proposed sleeping with Spinelli as a solution to
dealing with Winifred. Sam urged Maxie to reconsider because she worried
that Spinelli would end up hurt. Sam thought that instead of Maxie
sleeping with Spinelli, she should go to Jason with her concerns regarding
Winifred. Maxie didn't think Jason would listen to her, but she believed
he would listen to Sam. Maxie asked Sam to talk to Jason for her. Sam
seemed reluctant at first, but Maxie quickly changed Sam's mind.
Elizabeth and Lucky ran into Sam on the dock, who helped Elizabeth with
all her paraphernalia. As they talked, a boat exploded in the harbor. Sam
recognized that it was in Jason's shipping lanes, and told Elizabeth that
she was going to check out the explosion. Sam asked Elizabeth if she
wanted to know if Jason was okay. Elizabeth said that she was trying not
to care about what happened to Jason because being close to him brought
the potential for danger to her children. Sonny and Claudia were surprised
when Jason blew up their shipment and then appeared on the docks and told
them that he had blown up their ship because they were trespassing in his
territory. Sonny did not see it that way. He saw it as taking back the
territory that already belonged to him. Jason wanted to work things out,
but Claudia got in the middle. Sonny told her not to interfere, but she
insisted that Jason was in the wrong to strike without warning. She and
Sonny left before matters were resolved with Jason.
Maxie called Sam from the Port Charles Police Station, in hopes that Sam
could locate Jason. Fortunately, Sam had arrived on the docks as Sonny and
Claudia departed and had just found Jason when Maxie called. Maxie told
Jason that Spinelli was in custody. He left immediately for the police
station. When Jason arrived at the police station, Diane told him the bad
news. She said that the FBI had proof that Spinelli had hacked into
systems protected by national security. She said that Spinelli was looking
at very serious charges. When Rayner called Jason in, Diane wanted to go
along but Rayner told Jason it would go better for Spinelli if Rayner
could see Jason alone. Jason acceded to his wishes. As soon as Jason was
in the interrogation room, he asked Rayner if Spinelli had been arrested
to get to Jason. Rayner admitted that he had. He told Jason to make no
mistake. He said that Spinelli's freedom and, potentially, his life were
at risk if Jason did not do
exactly as Rayner said.
Agent Rayner told Jason they would cut a deal with him to set Spinelli
free if Jason would give the FBI information about Sonny and the Zacchara
family. The FBI wanted Jason to continue acting as head of the Corinthos
family and work undercover for the FBI. If Jason cooperated, Spinelli
would be released. If Jason didn't cooperate, Spinelli would go to prison
for life. Jason offered a full confession if they would let Spinelli go.
Jason was even willing to turn Anthony Zacchara over, but Jason didn't
want to betray Sonny. Agent Rayner said Jason was not in a position to
negotiate. Suddenly, the officers prepared to move Spinelli somewhere more
permanent. Diane stormed in and said she would get a court order to halt
their progress, but Agent Rayner and Jason showed up and said there would
be no need. Spinelli was being released.
Sam approached Lucky, Cameron, and Liz on the docks as they were preparing
to go home. Lucky told Sam he needed to make sure Cameron got home okay,
but Lucky asked if he could stop by Sam's place later. Sam mentioned that
he should call first, because she would be out and about checking up on
Spinelli. Once Sam was gone, Liz asked if Lucky and Sam were doing okay.
She had noticed the tension between the two of them. Lucky said he was
happy at that moment being with Liz and Cameron, and that was all that
mattered. Sam knocked on Maxie's door and was surprised to find
Spinelli there with her. They talked about Spinelli's crimes and how he
suddenly was released. Spinelli was concerned the Feds were using him as a
bargaining chip to get Jason to cooperate. Sam told Spinelli that he
needed to let his friends take care of him.
Jason told Carly that he needed a favor from her. He needed to speak
to Sonny and wanted her to set up a meeting between them that night. He
warned her that things were about to blow up between them and he needed to
broker peace, after he admited to her that he blew up Sonny's ship. Carly
asks if there is anyway that Jason can't approach Sonny on his own. Jason
tells her no that if Sonny sees him coming that he might think he was
there for revenge. He tells her this is too important to risk a
misunderstanding. Carly turned him down, explaining that Jax was on his
way over and this was her last chance with him. Jason showed up at Sonny's
house and asked him to step down. If Sonny chose not to step down from the
Zacchara family, Jason wouldn't be able to save him. Sonny had put himself
in a bad position by joining forces with the enemy. Jason wanted it to be
perfectly clear. If it was Sonny's clear choice to be with the enemy,
Jason owed him no further protection.
Spinelli was waiting for Jason when he came home to the penthouse. He
wanted to know what Jason had done to get him released from federal
custody. Jason did not want to talk about it, but Spinelli persisted. He
feared that Jason had made a deal with the Feds to save him. Jason told
Spinelli that he considered him a really good friend. He said that he
forgot that Spinelli was a kid and that he had been wrong to enlist
Spinelli's help in some areas. Jason said that he felt responsible for
Spinelli's trouble, and anything he had to do to make sure that Spinelli
was free and out of danger was worth it. Jason asked Spinelli to stay out
of his business and to let the matter drop. A dejected Spinelli picked up
his laptop and left the apartment.
Lucky knocked on Sam's door and she seemed glad to see him. Their
happiness did not last long. As soon as Sam said she was applying to be a
P.I., Lucky hit the roof. He said it was more proof that she was addicted
to danger. She said that it was one of the few things that she would be
good at. She pointed out that she was an independent woman who made her
own decisions. As their argument heated up, Alexis knocked on Sam's door.
Lucky used Alexis' arrival as an excuse to leave. After he was gone, Sam
expected Alexis to be against the P.I. idea, but was pleasantly surprised
to find that she had Alexis' full support.
Jason was not happy to get a call from Agent Rayner, who told him that he
was coming over for a meeting. As soon as he was off the phone, Carly came
to the door. She wanted to know if Jason had worked thing out with Sonny.
He said that they had not. He told her that he feared that he and Sonny
were no longer friends, and he wondered how much more protection he could
give Sonny. Carly was puzzled, but could see that Jason was agitated. She
told him that she loved him and cared about him. Jason was glad to learn
that Carly and Jax were on their way to reconciliation, and he assured her
that he did not need her help or want to jeopardize her fragile
relationship with Jax in any way. Jason was not happy when Rayner showed
up at his door. He told Rayner that their relationship would be revealed
if it were known that Rayner was coming to Jason's apartment. Rayner said
that he did not care about that, because priorities had shifted. He told
Jason that a truck belonging to Equinox Corporation had been hijacked. He
said that the number one priority was the recovery of that truck. Rayner
demanded that Jason locate the missing truck through his sources. When
Jason said that an FBI raid would compromise his informant status, Rayner
told him to use whatever means were necessary to find and recover the
missing truck.
9 hours before the surgery: 10am. Jason was at his penthouse, on the phone
with Bernie. Someone was knocking impatiently on the front door while
Jason ordered Bernie to find a hijacked Equinox truck. After he wrapped up
the call, Jason answered to door. It was Maxie. She was concerned about
Spinelli and wanted talk to Jason about it. Jason listened as Maxie
explained that Spinelli was upset because he felt as if he had ruined
Jason's life. His hurt was compounded by Jason's refusal to tell Spinelli
about what the deal that Jason had cut with Rayner to get the charges
against Spinelli dropped. Maxie thought she could help Spinelli if Jason
told her what was really going on. Jason's response was to tell Maxie that
it was none of her business. He told her that if he wouldn't tell
Spinelli, he certainly wouldn't tell Maxie. Maxie was frustrated by
Jason's stubbornness to open up and started to chastise him for making
things difficult for Spinelli. During her tirade, Maxie revealed that she
had slept with Spinelli to keep him from falling for Winifred. Jason
couldn't believe Maxie's logic. He told her that using Spinelli like that
made absolutely no sense. He advised Maxie to focus on being a friend to
Spinelli. Jason was certain that if Maxie calmed down about things, it
would help settle Spinelli down. Before he sent her on her way, Jason
warned Maxie not to sleep with Spinelli again, unless she cared about him.
After Maxie's departure, Robin dropped by for a visit. Jason was happy to
see her but told her that it was not a good idea for her to be at his
penthouse because of the danger around him. Robin brushed his concerns
aside and showed Jason pictures of Emma. As he looked at the pictures,
Robin asked him how Carly knew that she had been suffering from
post-partum depression following Michael's birth. Jason took Robin over to
the sofa and the two sat down. Jason told Robin that Carly had realized
there was a problem when she couldn't bring herself to touch Michael.
Shortly after his birth, Jason had taken Carly to the NICU to see Michael
but Carly was refused to hold her son. A couple of days later, Carly
decided to leave town for a while. Robin made a few derisive comments
about Carly's fitness as a mother and then seemed to conclude that all was
well with her. Robin decided that she didn't suffer from PPD because she
didn't have the same symptoms that Carly had exhibited. Jason cautioned
Robin not to rely on him for a diagnosis. He reminded Robin that he only
knew Carly's case and urged her to seek professional advice. Robin waived
away Jason's concern. She told him that Patrick had only made the
suggestion and put the concern in her head, that she had PPD, because he
was a perfectionist. He needed to have a diagnosis for everything. Robin
thanked Jason for his help and left before Jason could persuade Robin to
see a specialist about her situation. Sonny stopped by Jason's penthouse
to tell him about Spinelli's earlier visit and what he had revealed. He
confronted Jason with his suspicions that Jason had cut a deal with the
FBI. When Jason didn't deny it, Sonny concluded that Jason had agreed to
help the FBI take Sonny down. He realized he was right when Jason remained
silent.
Six Hours Before Surgery - 11:00 a.m. Sonny relayed to Jason his anger at
the thought of him turning Sonny and the Zaccharas over to the Feds. Sonny
didn't think Spinelli was worth that kind of betrayal. The only way Jason
could get Spinelli out of trouble was to make a deal. Jason couldn't turn
over on Sonny, so he wanted Sonny to leave the Zacchara organization
before the Feds swept into action. Sonny couldn't leave yet. He knew
Karpov hadn't shot Kate and he suspected someone in the Zacchara family
had set up the shooting. He had Anthony just where he needed him in order
to get the information. Sonny couldn't just leave the organization. Sam
met up with Jason and told him she was sure he had cut a deal to get
Spinelli out of jail. In one moment, Spinelli went from facing hard jail
time to being released. Someone had to cut a deal, and she knew it had
been Jason. Sam knew Jason cared about Sonny, though. She asked him what
he was going to do.
Seven Hours Before Surgery - 12:00 p.m. Sam outlined to Jason her plan to
go undercover and join the Zacchara mob so that she could get information
that would help free Spinelli from the FBI; Jason did not think it was a
good idea. He thought her ties to him, Sonny, Lucky, and her mother, the
DA, might make the Zaccharas suspicious. She thought she could handle the
situation. Jason recognized that Sam would do what she wanted to. He told
Sam that if Spinelli ended up behind bars, it was on her head. Ric went to
Jason and delighted in saying that Anthony would come after Jason if he
destroyed Anthony's property again. Jason remained stoic, even when Ric
said that Jason's friendship with Sonny would not help him avoid
retaliation. Jason showed Ric the door as Carly entered. Carly had come to
talk to Jason about the benefit she was hosting that evening for pediatric
head trauma and the foundation she was setting up to honor Michael. She
worried that the coming blizzard might interfere with the party, but
primarily she wanted Jason to attend and try to heal the rift with Sonny.
Jason was noncommittal on the subject, but asked Carly if the real reason
she was starting the foundation was because she believed that it might
bring Michael back? Sam spotted Ric in the Metro Court and made a beeline
to him. When he wondered what she wanted, she quickly answered that she
wanted an introduction to Anthony Zacchara so that she could get a job.
Ric was ready to turn her down when she said that she could pilot a boat
and do a lot of other things for Mr. Zacchara. Behind her, Anthony said he
wanted to know what kind of things Sam had in mind to do for him.
Six Hours Before Surgery - 1:00 p.m. In the lobby of the Metro
Court, Anthony wanted to know what Sam could do for him. Sam told him that
she was an experienced pilot and knew all the good places to land, with no
questions asked. Ric immediately pointed out her relationships to Jason
and Lucky. Sam responded with tales of her own. She told Anthony that Ric
was being vindictive because he had slept with her while he was still
married to her mother. She told Anthony that she and Jason were over, and
that her relationship with Lucky was on-again, off-again; the bottom line
was that no man told her what to do.
Carly and Jason talked about the benefit that Carly was hosting and the
foundation she wanted to endow to research pediatric head trauma. Jason
was more than happy to contribute to the cause, but wanted to make sure
that Carly was not setting herself up for a fall. He wanted to know if her
real motive for starting the foundation was to try to save Michael. Carly
admitted that she did hope that a cure could be found for Michel, but she
accepted the reality that chances were very slim that Michael would ever
recover. Jason offered to attend the party if Carly really wanted him
there, but she told him it was not necessary. She said she would let him
off the hook if he wrote a big check. They had a good laugh. Sam went to
Jason and told her about the meeting with Anthony. She was convinced that
she would get a job with him. Jason warned Sam not to underestimate
Anthony. He worried that she was getting in over her head, but Sam's only
question was whether or
not Jason was going to help her investigate Anthony for Spinelli's sake.
Five Hours Before Surgery - 2:00 p.m. Sam was at Jason's penthouse trying
to convince him that her plan to work for Anthony was sound. When she
asked Jason what he wanted her to do, Jason refused to comment. He said it
wasn't his place to make decisions for her. That was enough for Sam to
move forward with her scheme to infiltrate the Zacchara organization.
Jason cautioned Sam about the danger she faced. He reminded her that the
game she intended to play could cost Sam her life. Sam thought that she
had the situation under control. Jason didn't appear to have the same
confidence. He advised her not to underestimate Anthony. He also told her
not to hesitate to ask for backup if she needed it. Spinelli's arrival
interrupted them. He was clearly agitated and rambling. Jason couldn't
make sense out of what Spinelli was saying, so he pawned him off on Sam
and left. Spinelli quickly realized that Sam was working with Jason and
took umbrage over the idea of Sam protecting Spinelli from the FBI. It
made Spinelli feel like a big wimp. However, it didn't keep Spinelli from
trying to pump Sam for information. Sam was wise to Spinelli's tricks. She
understood his concerns, but advised Spinelli to trust Jason to handle
matters.
Jason went to General Hospital to talk to Patrick about Carly. Jason was
worried that Carly had unreasonable expectations for Michael's recovery.
Patrick made it clear that everything he had told Carly about Michael's
prognosis had been true. If she had derived hope from what he had said,
then there was nothing Patrick could or would do to take that away from
her. Patrick went on to point out that Carly's foundation for children
with head injuries was a positive step to channel her hope. Before Jason
left, Patrick asked Jason about his visit with Robin. He wanted to know
what Jason's impression of Robin had been. Patrick wasn't surprised when
Jason told him that Robin had seemed a little tense. Jason returned to the
penthouse where he found Spinelli working on his laptop. As soon as
Spinelli saw Jason, he stopped working. Spinelli's fidgety behavior and
eagerness to work in his room alerted Jason to the possibility that
Spinelli was hiding something. At first Spinelli was reluctant to tell
Jason what he had been working on, but Jason pressed for answers. Finally,
Spinelli blurted out that he had been attempting to hack into FBI files.
Jason was furious. He asked Spinelli why he would risk doing that given
the circumstances of his recent arrest. Spinelli felt he had little choice
because Jason had refused to share the details of the deal he had struck
with Agent Rayner.
Three Hours Before Surgery - 4:00 p.m. It was a tough day for Jason,
who was home and on the phone talking tough to Bernie. He was anxious to
find the missing Equinox shipment for the Feds. Bernie did not have a clue
to the hijacked truck's whereabouts. Jason talked tough and was still
steaming when he answered another call. It was Agent Rayner getting tough
with Jason and demanding to know the location of the missing truck. Jason
told him he was working on it and hung up abruptly to answer the angry
knocking on his apartment door.
Lucky was at the door because a friend had told him that Sam had been to
see Jason on two occasions recently. He demanded to know what was going
on. Jason told him they were working on something together. When Lucky
wanted specifics, Jason told him to talk to Sam. Spinelli breezed through
the door and a very angry Lucky stalked out. Spinelli wanted answers from
Jason, who put on his coat. As he opened the door to leave Jason was firm
when he told Spinelli to drop his questions and stay out of Jason's
business. Spinelli did not like Jason's answer. Before Jason could exit,
Spinelli told him politely, but firmly, that Jason was treating him like a
child. Jason did not agree with Spinelli's assessment and told him in no
uncertain terms to find legitimate arenas for his talents. Jason stated
firmly that he would never reveal the terms of the deal he made with the
Feds to Spinelli. Spinelli did not like that answer and retreated up the
stairs.
Sam went to see Elizabeth at the hospital. She wanted to talk about Lucky.
Elizabeth was reluctant to get involved and advised Sam to give up her
undercover work if that was what was causing so much trouble in her
relationship with Lucky. Sam said she could not, because she had to help a
friend. Lucky met Sam at the Metro Court bar because he was afraid that
she would be mad that he had gone to see Jason. She said that she was not
mad, but thought that Lucky would be upset because she went to see
Elizabeth. Lucky felt better knowing that she still cared, and so did Sam.
They seemed to draw closer.
At a sleazy motel, an unknown man took delivery of a box from the hijacked
Equinox truck. The box contained five round objects, each about the size
of a bonbon. He paid the delivery person with a sack of cash. After the
deliveryman left, the unknown man phoned another party and said that the
Equinox truck would never be found. He also said that he had a plan for
getting the goods to the next stop. When he put down the phone, he picked
up one of the round balls and a glass of water. As Jason reached for the
door to leave his apartment, Agent Rayner knocked on it. He demanded to
know what progress Jason had made in locating the truck. Jason said he was
working on it. Rayner wanted to know why the truck had not been found when
it sported an Equinox logo and had been spotted on Route 87. He asked
Jason what he was missing. Spinelli eavesdropped on the conversation,
unbeknownst to Jason or Agent Rayner.
Two Hours Before Surgery - 3:00 p.m. Sam and Lucky relaxed in the hot tub
and started to kiss. Things started to progress until Lucky mistakenly
called Sam by Elizabeth's name. Suddenly, everything was off and both Sam
and Lucky were getting out of the hot tub. After they were both dressed,
Sam told Lucky that he had given her hope when everything was going badly
in her life. Lucky said it sounded like she was saying goodbye. Sam felt
that it was time to end their relationship while they could still remain
friends. She opened the door and asked Lucky to leave, which he
reluctantly did. Once Lucky left, Sam called Jason and said she was
leaving to meet a shipment for Anthony Zacchara. She wanted him to come
looking for her if he hadn't heard from her by 2:00 the next morning.
Spinelli overheard Agent Rayner talking to Jason about the shipment from
Equinox that Jason was supposed to be finding. Jason wanted more
information, but Agent Rayner wasn't giving any additional information
out. Before the FBI agent left, he warned Jason that they needed
information soon to save innocent lives and to keep Spinelli out of jail.
Once Agent Rayner was gone, Jason called Spinelli downstairs and chastised
him for eavesdropping on the conversation. Spinelli was upset and insisted
on being able to help, but Jason wasn't about to risk Spinelli's freedom
again. Spinelli arrived home to tell Jason what Winifred had told him
about the poison that was on the truck. Deadly poisons were on the truck
that the federal agents were trying to obtain. Jason wanted Spinelli to go
to Maxie's, but Spinelli refused. He would reveal the rest of the
information from Winifred only if Jason agreed that they would work
together. Jason finally admitted defeat and said Spinelli would help him
on the mission.
Winifred told a higher-up that Spinelli did not belong on a list of
criminals. She was fierce in his defense when she said that Spinelli
belonged on a list of heroes, because he knew the danger he was facing
when he entered GH, but he risked his life to save others, anyway.
One Hour Before Surgery - 6:00 p.m. Spinelli was on the computer and
Jason was on the phone with the biker gangbanger who had hijacked the
Equinox truck. He told Jason that the guns and other weapons were still on
the truck, but one small box had been delivered to a man in a motel room.
He gave a description of the man to Jason. Jason warned the hijacker to
leave the truck, keys, and cargo where it was and get as far away from it
as possible, then Jason hung up. Spinelli wanted to track down the missing
box, but Jason said he would give the information to the Feds and his job
was done. When FBI Agent Rayner arrived, Jason told him the location of
the truck, and gave a description of the man with the missing poison.
Spinelli overheard Rayner demand more from Jason and threaten to question
the hijackers personally. Jason responded that if Rayner did that, he
might as well paint a target on Jason's back. Rayner said that he would do
everything possible to protect Jason as a source, but he demanded the name
of the hijacker. When Jason was reluctant to give it to him, Rayner was
vociferous when he told Jason that Jason could either give up the
hijacker's name or Spinelli could rot in jail.
After Jason gave Rayner what he wanted, Rayner reiterated that Jason's
help with the Equinox truck in no way changed their original deal. Jason
was to get information on Anthony Zacchara that would allow the FBI to
prosecute him. Rayner cautioned Jason to keep violence to a minimum,
because the FBI wanted Anthony alive so that they could have a public
trial. After Rayner left, Spinelli revealed himself and said that he was
honored by Jason's sacrifice on his behalf, but he was also distressed
that Jason had to betray his code. Spinelli suggested that it might aid
Jason's cause and give him some leverage if they located the buyer and
found the missing shipment for the Feds. Spinelli pointed out that even if
all they did were get the information and give it to the Feds, they would
succeed in thwarting the plans of an "evildoer." Jason agreed.
They figured the weather would make flying difficult, so Spinelli started
searching car rental records in the Port Charles area and
cross-referencing renters with driver's licenses of those who fit the
description of the buyer.
Sam was brought into the emergency room with a sprained wrist. Another
driver hit her car, which skidded off the road. While Elizabeth took her
vitals, Sam said that the other driver was in much worse condition because
his car had plowed into a pole. Patrick's next patient was Sam. He treated
her sprain and said the other guy had serious internal injuries and would
probably need surgery. He asked Elizabeth to assist. Sam said she was not
surprised because he was driving much too fast for the blizzard
conditions. Elizabeth left to prep for surgery. Sam asked after Robin and
Emma. Patrick spoke of his love for both, but Sam recognized the worry
beneath his words. Patrick ordered tests for Sam and she shared her
experience after a c-section. She told Patrick that no matter how
depressed and upset she had been, the one thing that got her through was
that Jason was always there for her and gave her his boundless love. She
told Patrick that if he could do that for Robin, she was sure that all the
problems would work themselves out. Patrick said thank you.
Patrick was in the Emergency Room when Earl Bragg's x-rays were delivered.
He had just spotted the contents of Earl's abdomen when Epiphany answered
a call inquiring about Earl Bragg. Patrick grabbed the receiver,
identified himself and wanted to know why the caller was asking about Earl
Bragg. Seconds later he said, "Poison. Yes, I know where that
is." Patrick hung up, told Epiphany to call OR and stop them from
operating. Then he rushed off to OR. Epiphany dialed rapidly, but no one
in the operating room noticed the flashing phone light. Monica, Matt,
Elizabeth, and Leyla had Earl prepped when the blood arrived. Patrick took
the stairs as Matt made the first incision. Jason and Spinelli rushed to
GH. In her new home, Robin became increasingly tense as Emma cried
forlornly. While making a call outside the GH boardroom, Nikolas spotted
Rebecca Shaw, an Emily look-alike. Carly lost some of her smile when Kate
arrived for the benefit. Johnny found Maxie after her car accident.
Patrick reached the OR as Matt opened Earl Bragg. Before Patrick could
warn them about the danger, blood splattered the surgical team. Then
Leyla, Matt, Monica, and Elizabeth crumpled to the floor.
While Patrick banged on the observation window, hoping to stop the
surgery, pandemonium broke out in the Operating Room. As the doctors and
nurses collapsed, Patrick was powerless to do anything but watch.
Elizabeth made it to the door and tried to get out. She was overcome
before she could do more than open the door a crack. Patrick rushed to the
nearest phone to call for help. When he spotted Sam, he asked her why no
one had gotten through to the doctors in the OR. Sam said that Epiphany
had tried, but she had been unsuccessful. While Patrick reached for the
phone, Sam started to go to the aid of those who were trapped in the OR.
Patrick stopped her. He reminded her that she was just as susceptible the
poison in the room as everyone else.
Jason was in his car, racing to the hospital, while he updated Agent
Rayner about what he had discovered. Jason told Rayner that a man named
Earl Bragg had been taken to the hospital after a car crash. Jason was
positive that Bragg was the man that Rayner was looking for. Jason went on
to tell him that when he called Patrick to tell him that his patient could
be carrying poison, Patrick had yelled for someone to call the OR to stop
the surgery. Rayner was stunned. He realized that if they opened Bragg up,
the poison could become airborne and kill everyone. As soon as Jason
arrived at the hospital, he tried to get answers from Epiphany.
Unfortunately, Epiphany had no idea what was going on. She told Jason that
she had tried to call the OR but had not been able to reach anyone. Jason
told Epiphany to expect a call from the FBI then dashed off to the OR.
When Jason caught up to Patrick, Patrick filled him in on what had
happened after he had last spoken to Jason. Jason called Rayner then
handed the phone to Patrick so that he could update the agent on what had
happened. Rayner told Patrick that it was imperative that no one left the
OR. The toxin was airborne and could contaminate anyone who came into
contact with it. Spinelli arrived at the hospital shortly afterwards.
Jason instructed him to find out where the air ducts from the OR led.
While Spinelli worked on that, Patrick donned a biohazard suit so that he
could enter the OR. The first person he found was Elizabeth. He picked her
up, carried her out and gently laid her down on a gurney. Jason was
rattled when he saw Elizabeth's unconscious body. A quick check confirmed
that she was alive but in critical condition. Medical personnel rushed her
off to the Intensive Care Unit. Patrick returned to the OR for the next
victim, Matt. Matt refused to be rescued before the others. Jason received
a second blow when Patrick carried Monica out. She was in the same
condition as Elizabeth. Other than the patient, Earl Bragg, the only other
casualty was Andy Archer, the anesthesiologist.
Later, Jason, Sam, and Spinelli gathered in the hospital's lobby. Sam
offered to help while Jason checked Elizabeth and Monica, but Jason
declined. He didn't think that he could help them by standing at their
bedside. Patrick soon joined them bearing grim news. Only one sphere, out
of five, of biotoxin, had been found inside Earl Bragg's body. The x-ray
had clearly shown that there had been five just before the surgery. When
Rayner learned about the four missing spheres, he ordered Patrick to
return to the OR to find them. Spinelli had dire news. It seemed that one
of the air ducts in the OR led to the room where the benefit was being
held.
Patrick, Jason, and Spinelli told Agent Rayner that the dangerous toxins
were being transmitted through vents into the boardroom where a charity
event was taking place. Agent Rayner insisted they seal off the boardroom
and not allow anyone in or out. Patrick handed the phone back to Spinelli,
and the FBI agent told the computer genius that Spinelli would need to
hack into the hospital's mainframe to shut down the ventilation system.
Although Spinelli was doing as he was told, he wouldn't admit what he was
doing to Agent Rayner. Sam overheard Agent Rayner on speakerphone tell
Spinelli that if he wouldn't cooperate, people would die. Sam grabbed the
phone from Spinelli and explained that no one wanted to admit anything
that could be used against them later on. Agent Rayner assured them that
he wasn't concerned with prosecution at that time. Sam wanted to know
exactly what they were dealing with, so the FBI agent explained that the
toxin was a poison and not a virus. It wasn't contagious from person to
person, but breathing even a little bit could be fatal.
Before too long, Jason had arranged for a medic in a biohazard suit to
come rescue Kate so medical professionals could treat her. Nikolas saw
Jason coming from the boardroom area and asked for a status update.
Nikolas learned that Kate had been evacuated, so he wanted Jason to pull
some strings and get Nadine out of the boardroom. Jason said they were
doing the best they could do. Nikolas started to freak out until Jason
slammed him up against the wall and asked what was going on. Nikolas
admitted he had left Nadine in the ballroom so he could chase a fantasy.
Jason asked if the fantasy had anything to do with Emily, and Nikolas
admitted that it did. He didn't feel like going into it then, though.
Unknown to everyone at the hospital, someone had entered the quarantined
operating room and removed one of the dangerous toxic balls from the
deceased patient, Earl Braggs.
Sam and Jason stood in the hospital lobby waiting for help to arrive when
Jax tapped on the window. Jax tried to get in the hospital but Jason and
Sam explained that the FBI had quarantined it. Elizabeth woke up in ICU as
Jason waited outside the room. Epiphany came out and told him that
Elizabeth's condition was critical. Lulu, Spinelli, and Sam were standing
around in the lobby trying to figure out what more they could do to help
when Lucky came in. Both Lulu and Sam were astounded that he had broken
the quarantine to get to Elizabeth.
Jason passed Claudia as she was being wheeled to ICU. She tried to warn
him about Anthony's plans, but fainted before she could tell him that
Anthony had shot Kate. When Jason joined Sam, Spinelli, Lucky, and Lulu.
Lucky immediately demanded to know where Elizabeth was. As soon as Jason
told him that she was in ICU, Lucky left to see her. Jason and Sam
speculated that Earl Bragg might have had an accomplice, and decided to
check that the biotoxin spheres were still in OR where Patrick had left
them. Jason and Sam examined the OR through the viewing window. Jason
noticed that one of the remaining four spheres was missing. Sam declared
that the situation had just gotten a whole lot worse.
Sam discovered that one of the toxic spheres was missing from the
operating room. She found Spinelli in the waiting area and told him the
latest news. Jason was looking for a biohazard suit so he could enter the
operating room. Spinelli and Sam decided they needed to inform the FBI of
the situation. Spinelli dialed the phone and Winifred answered. Spinelli
quickly filled her in on the situation and asked if the FBI had any
information about any possible accomplices Earl Bragg could have been
working with. Patrick talked to Spinelli and Sam about Earl Bragg and the
toxins. Suddenly, he decided to check his voicemail, since he hadn't heard
from Robin. He listened to the message about Emma having a fever, and
Patrick told Spinelli and Sam that Robin was headed to General Hospital.
Patrick was in the Emergency Room with Epiphany. He was trying to reach
Robin. Spinelli, Jason, and Sam were also there trying to figure out who
took the biotoxin from the Operating Room. Jason stopped in to check on
Monica. She wanted to know if he had anything to do with the poison. He
assured her that he was not involved and that he would never do anything
that would cause harm to innocents. Monica was relieved to hear it and
proud when Jason said that he was working with the FBI to resolve the
situation.
Spinelli and Sam watched surveillance tapes hoping to get a clue as to who
might have taken the sphere of biotoxin. Spinelli worried about Maxie, but
Sam told him to have faith. Sam said that Maxie was resourceful and would
be okay. Sam also told Spinelli that he reminded her of her brother.
Spinelli was flattered. Sam decided that Spinelli needed an orange soda
and he agreed. Sam went in search of vending machines while Spinelli
continued to scan the surveillance tapes. Elizabeth and Lucky shared a
heartfelt stroll down memory lane. Sam watched them bond through the
observation window.
Jason found Carly and told her how much he appreciated that she had been
able to keep everyone from panicking when they had been trapped in the
boardroom. She said that she was glad to help. Jason and Sam stopped a
deliveryman from breaking through the front door and leaving the hospital.
When they explained the situation and said that the FBI would shoot anyone
who tried to exit, the man pulled a gun and held it on Jason. He said he
intended to use Jason as a hostage to get out. He told Sam that he would
shoot Jason unless she smashed through the door. Sam pulled a gun of her
own, but hesitated to shoot. Despite Jason's order for her to fire, Sam
tried to talk the deliveryman into surrendering. Jason told Sam to kill
the guy or he would. When it seemed that Sam would not shoot, Jason took
action and grabbed the gun. Just as he moved, Sam fired. She shot Jason,
who was incredulous when he cried, "You shot me!"
Jason couldn't believe that Sam had shot him in the arm. Sam defended
herself; she told Jason that she had aimed for the deliveryman's shoulder
but unfortunately Jason had jumped in the path of the bullet at the last
moment. Meanwhile, the deliveryman took off, unnoticed, while Jason and
Sam continued to argue about whether or not Sam could properly shoot a
gun. Eventually, Jason made his way to an exam room where Epiphany patched
him up. When Sam walked into the room to check on Jason, Epiphany asked
her to keep Jason and his mobster cohorts out of further trouble. Shortly
after Epiphany left, Spinelli barged in. He was agitated because of
something that he had learned about Equinox Corporation.
Patrick updated Agent Rayner on the situation at the hospital. Patrick was
frustrated with Rayner's inability to provide crucial information, which
might help Patrick treat the critically ill patients felled by the
biotoxin. Rayner was sympathetic but his hands were tied. He insisted that
his FBI superiors had stymied all his efforts to gather medical
information to help Patrick. The only thing that Rayner could do to help
the hospital was to arrange to have the biotoxin spheres removed. When
Patrick ended the call, Jason, Sam, and Spinelli asked for an update. When
Spinelli learned that the FBI would arrive with a team to extract the
biotoxin, he became upset. He was convinced that the Equinox Corporation
was behind everything. Spinelli begged Patrick to keep the biotoxin from
falling into Equinox's hands. Patrick told Spinelli that he didn't have
the authority to stop the FBI from entering the hospital. He reminded
Spinelli that his priority was treating the patients who had been affected
by the deadly poison. Spinelli wasn't satisfied with Patrick's answer, so
he appealed to Jason for help. Jason told Spinelli that Patrick had made
his decision; he warned Spinelli to stay out the FBI's way.
As Patrick and Jason walked away, Sam lingered behind to talk to Spinelli.
She beseeched Spinelli to respect Jason's wishes, but Spinelli was
undeterred. Later, when Winifred arrived with a team to extract the
biotoxin, Spinelli managed to obtain a HAZMAT suit. He snuck into the
operating room as Winifred instructed the team to collect the spheres. She
was stunned when she looked up and immediately recognized Spinelli.
In another room at the hospital, Sonny confronted Anthony about shooting
Kate, manipulating a mob war with Jason, and faking his paralysis. Anthony
immediately began accusing Claudia of lying. He claimed that Claudia
wanted Sonny to do the dirty work for her by killing her father. Sonny
leveled a gun at Anthony then threatened to kill him. He gave Anthony the
choice of dying like a man or a coward. Anthony recoiled with fear. He
cried and pleaded with Sonny to reconsider. Just as Sonny seemed poised to
pull the trigger, Jason burst through the door. He told Sonny to drop the
gun but Sonny refused. Sonny defended his actions by exposing all
Anthony's crimes and transgressions. Jason reminded Sonny that they needed
Anthony alive. When Jason and Sonny's argument turned into a struggle for
Sonny's gun, Anthony took advantage of their inattention. He jumped out of
the wheelchair then ran out of the room just as Sonny's gun went off.
Jason told Sam that he had to find Anthony before Sonny killed him.
Someone had to be turned over to the Feds. If Sonny killed Anthony, Jason
would be forced to turn over Sonny. Jason and Sam ran into Ric in the
hallway, where Jason threw Ric up against the wall and asked if he had
seen Sonny. Ric laughed and didn't want to help them but he ended up
telling them that he had seen Sonny running around looking for Anthony.
Patrick found Sam and asked if she had seen Spinelli. Patrick needed to
find out if Emma and Robin had been admitted to Mercy Hospital. Sam hadn't
seen Spinelli in a little while, but she was concerned that Spinelli had
done something crazy and gotten himself into trouble. Patrick was worried
Spinelli might have found a way to leave the building, but Sam was sure
Spinelli wouldn't have done that. Spinelli knew he was the only one who
could enable the hospital to communicate with the outside world, so no one
thought he would abandon them. Sam was worried because Spinelli didn't
want the poison falling back into the hands of the Equinox Corporation.
She was afraid he would do something daring, and Patrick thought he might
endanger the rest of the people at the hospital. Patrick and Sam's
conversation was halted when Patrick's cell phone rang. It was Robin, and
the cell phone connection was bad. Patrick tried to tell Robin to go to
Mercy Hospital, but she couldn't hear him. When Patrick hung up, Sam
assured him that the phone call had at least verified that Robin was okay.
Patrick worried about his daughter though.
Spinelli tried to convince Winifred that they shouldn't be returning the
poison to Equinox. Spinelli felt that any corporation that would
manufacture such a deadly toxin shouldn't be trusted. The fact that such a
deadly toxin was stolen was proof of Equinox's incompetence. Spinelli
wanted Winifred to use her own conscience, not the orders she was given,
to stand up and be counted as a savior to the human race. The two argued
over Spinelli's desire to do what was morally right and Winifred's desire
to follow orders from her superior. Spinelli and Winifred stopped arguing
when two other individuals came into the operating room claiming to be
from the FBI. Winifred and Spinelli talked as the two FBI agents put the
poison in safe, metal tubes. As they worked, Spinelli noticed the
fluctuation of the oxygen sensors. He and Winifred managed to jump out of
the operating room just as an explosion went off.
Sonny walked into the chapel and didn't see Anthony, so he quietly waited.
Anthony tried to crawl out the other door, but Sonny saw him and stopped
him from leaving. Sonny told him no one was left to save Anthony. Sonny
wanted to know why Anthony shot an innocent woman, but Anthony said there
was no such thing as an innocent woman. Anthony couldn't believe Sonny
would shoot him in a chapel, but Sonny pointed out that Anthony had no
problem shooting Kate in the church where Sonny and Kate were about to be
married. Sonny pointed the gun at Anthony's head, prepared to kill his
enemy. Jason stormed into the chapel with his gun drawn. He yelled to
Sonny not to shoot Anthony. Sonny was upset that Jason had a gun pointed
at him. Jason tried to explain why he needed Anthony alive, but Sonny was
only interested in revenge. Anthony kept yelling that Jason needed to
shoot Sonny before Sonny shot Anthony. Jason pleaded with Sonny that no
matter what had happened between the two of them, Spinelli didn't deserve
to go to jail. Frustrated, Sonny kicked Anthony and knocked him out. Sonny
looked at Jason and told him he wanted to kill Anthony more than anything
else. He would refrain from doing so as a favor to Jason, though.
Sam ran into Lulu as they were both looking for Spinelli. Thy teamed up
and started searching for anyone trapped in the smoke. Sonny and Jason
heard the explosion and decided to help out. Sonny told Jason that Anthony
was Jason's responsibility. Jason took Anthony to a vacant hospital bed
and strapped him down. Anthony feared for his life, but Jason said he
would be back for Anthony after he had helped with the evacuation. Anthony
laughed at the irony that he was under Jason's protection. Sam and Lulu
met up with Jason, who told them what he knew. They kept looking for
survivors while investigating the path of the fire. Sam, Jason, Winnifred,
Spinelli, and Lulu were studying the hospital evacuation plans when
Nikolas and Patrick arrived. The group looked to Patrick, who gave
instruction to start evacuating patients. Sam and Jason left to make sure
that the west stairwell was clear. Jason and Sam checked the west
stairwell and found it completely filled with smoke.
Sonny caught up to Trevor just as he reached the edge of the fire. He
threatened Sonny with exposure to the poison again, but Sonny said that
fire would destroy the poison. He told Trevor that if he shot him between
the eyes, Trevor would fall backwards into the flame and the toxin would
be destroyed. Trevor laughed, Sonny fired, the oxygen tanks exploded and
Trevor fell backwards. The explosion also felled Sonny, who lay
unconscious next to flaming pieces of walls and flooring. Jason and Sonny
met up in a hallway, and Jason asked what had happened to Trevor. Sonny
said there had been an explosion and he hoped Trevor was dead. Sam
approached them just as Sonny told Jason to go look for Anthony. Sonny
left, and Sam told Jason that it appeared as if Sonny and Jason were on
the same page again. Jason continued searching hallways and stumbled upon
a girl lying on the floor. He scooped her up just as the fire got worse,
and rushed her into a safer area with a gurney. He couldn't stop staring
at her when he noticed how much she looked like Emily. He apologized and
told her she looked like his sister who had passed away. Sam entered the
room and immediately gasped as she saw Emily's look-alike. Jason asked Sam
to take care of the woman while he went on his way to rescue more people.
Sam introduced herself to the young woman, who said her name was Rebecca
Shaw. Sam brought Rebecca around the corner to where Edward and Monica
were staying. Edward was speechless, and Monica gasped, "Emily,"
when she saw the young woman.
Jason and Nikolas were in the stairwell at GH, using extinguishers to put
out small batches of fire so that people could make their way to the
rooftop. While they worked, Nikolas asked Jason if Rebecca had said
anything to him. Jason said that she had asked him why he was staring at
her; he thought he might have said something about Emily. At that point,
Jason said, Sam came up to ask him to help fight the fire. After the men
had the last of the fires out, Jason and Nikolas returned to the floor
where people were waiting to be evacuated. Nikolas approached Patrick,
Sam, and Edward as they hovered over a distraught Monica, who was seated
in a wheelchair. Edward explained that Monica had fainted when she saw a
woman who bore an uncanny resemblance to Emily. Sam told them that the
woman's name was Rebecca Shaw. Monica couldn't get past how much Rebecca
looked like Emily. She was convinced that the two had to be related.
Nikolas agreed, but he had no idea how; he didn't recall Emily mentioning
a sibling. Monica was certain that if there had been a second child,
Emily's biological mother would have told Monica.
The pair went inside to find Winnifred. Winnifred was frantically typing
away on her laptop in an attempt to get a signal so that she could
communicate with the outside. Carly refused to believe that Jax had
perished in the helicopter, despite what she had seen. Jason soon joined
them. When he learned what had happened to Jax's helicopter, Jason took
Carly aside to comfort her. Sonny and Patrick converged in the hallway
were Spinelli, Winnifred, Jason, and Carly were gathered. They discussed
their options and decided that they needed to get everyone to the rooftop
in the hopes that another rescue attempt would be made. Carly was
determined to find Jax, so she slipped away with the intention of making
her way to the lobby where the helicopter had crashed. When Jason noticed
that she was missing, Sonny and Jason went to find her. On the rooftop,
the patients gathered just as Jax landed the helicopter. Edward helped
Monica while Lucky helped Elizabeth. Sam watched as Lucky kissed Elizabeth
after she pleaded with him to fly to safety with her. Nearby, Winnifred
threw herself into Spinelli's arms. She didn't want to leave the hospital
without him.
Sam found Jason in a smoke-filled hallway. She tired to get him to go to
the rooftop, but Jason refused. He was determined to find Anthony
Zacchara, because he was the only bargaining chip Jason had to bargain
with the FBI to keep Spinelli safe. Trevor shows Kate the biotoxin he had
stolen, Kate was stunned. Sam approached them. Trevor told Sam to stay
back, then ran off as Sam followed him. Jason found Claudia in the
stairwell. She doesn't think he will help her. Jason carries her to a
waiting area. Kate was there and she told Jason about her encounter with
Trevor and how Sam had followed him when Trevor fled with the biotoxin.
Kate warned Jason that Trevor was unstable. When Claudia confirmed Kate's
assessment, Jason asked Claudia why she hadn't told him that she'd seen
Trevor earlier. Claudia admitted that she had been afraid if she had,
Jason would have left her behind so he could find Trevor.
Spinelli discovered that the northwest utility closet had hardwire access.
Spinelli realized that he could patch his laptop in and connect with the
authorities, which would make rescue attempts easier. He didn't want to
risk his laptop succumbing to fire, so Spinelli decided to leave it behind
while he went to see if the utility closet could be accessed. When
Spinelli went into the closet to confirm that it had hardwire access, the
worst happened. The door slammed shut, trapping Spinelli inside. Patrick
came upon Spinelli's abandoned laptop.
