The TCO FAQ
TYPE OF MAIL.
This is a Buffy The Vampire Slayer mailing list, but most of OT (off
topic) emails are welcome here too. If you've had a bad day, and you just
want to get it off your chest, feel free to drop us a line.
However, there is some mail that I won't permit; please don't send the
following kind of mail:
· CHAINLETTERS - you may send virus warnings or surveys that you need filled
in
for school/work/a club etc. But other than that I don't want to see any kind
of forwarded messages unless they are about BtVS or Angel, which is
doubtful.
· ONE-LINERS - please don't send in really short emails, e.g.:
Thanking people for answering a question (thank them off-list or in an email
that you were going to be writing to the list anyway, not just one who's
soul purpose is to thank those people),
or wishing people a happy birthday (same advice as given to thanking
people), or advertising your website (you wanna advertise it? Send in an ad
to me - read further for more details - or include it in your signature or
ask Willow to put a link on the website.),
or replies saying things like "I totally agree with you"; you can let us
know that you agree with something, but elaborate your opppinion a bit, don'
t just leave it at that.
· PERSONAL MESSAGES - replies to most OT messages should be kept off-list.
If
you think it is something that the whole club would be interested in
hearing, then reply to it on-list, but please try to keep it off-list if
possible.
THE SUBJECT LINE.
'TCO:' automatically comes up in your subject line when posting to the
list, so you don't have to remember to add that, however if you don't think
your message is Buffy related, then please remember to add 'OT' which stands
for Off Topic and applies to any subject that is not about the show or
(former) cast. You can also use TAN which stands for tangent and means the
same.
Example:
· TCO: Buffy & Angel. (don't add the 'TCO' yourself)
· TCO: OT/TAN: This movie I saw. (don't add the 'TCO' yourself)
SPOILER SPACES.
If you are talking about a specific episode then you must add spoiler spaces
(approximately two dozen lines) as some people may not have seen it yet and
might not want to know what happens before they see it. Also, you must say
what, exactly, you're spoiling before you add the spoiler space. Some people
might not know the names to all the episodes, so, if you don't know the
name, just say what season it's in, and whereabouts it is in the season. If
you do know the name of the episode, you still have to add what season it's
in for those who don't know. So it would look something like:
"spoiler for 'Prophecy Girl' - end of season 1."
MEMBER NAMES.
This can be any name (from Buffy, or any other TV show, or just a name you
like), and all the other members will call you by it. To get a member name,
send an e-mail with the subject title 'Member Name' to me at
buffy_summers_tco@yahoo.co.ukwith a few names in it that you would
like to have as a member name (the reason I don't want you to send just one
is because if you send a few, chances are that at least one will be
available) and I'll see what I can do. There is a list of available and

If you can think of anymore names let me know! And of course your name doesn
't have to be from Buffy (or Angel). However, you must ask me for a member
name; don't just start using one! You should sign off with the member name
that I approve; not a name that you see is available and thus figure that
you can have. It's not your member name unless I have approved it. Also,
if you don't have a member name yet when you send in a message to the list
and are thus using your real name, please clarify that it is not your member
name when signing off with it. So, if you don't have a member name and you
use your real name which, let's say, is Amy, then you would sign off your
e-mails to the list with Amy ~ (no TCO name yet) or something to that
effect.
You must, however, get a member name. You can use your real name for about a
month after you've joined, but after that I expect you to ask me for a
member name. If you want to continue using your real name you can ask me if
that can be your member name, however, if it's already been chosen, then I
will ask you to choose some other name. If you haven't chosen a name after a
month, I'll mail you, asking you to choose one, and if you still don't, I'm
sorry, but I will just assign you one. It may sound mean and pointless, but
there could be more than one member on the list who have the same real name,
and if they were all to use it, then it would lead to confusion.
Willow and I both keep a list of all The Chosen Ones' member names, and
there is also a list on the website.
If you like, I can make it so that your messages to TCO (The Chosen
One) come up from whatever your member name is. This will not affect any
messages to anywhere besides this list. Just mail me off-list
(buffy_summers_tco@yahoo.co.uk) if you would like me to do this.
INTRODUCTIONS.
You do not have to send an introduction into the list if you don't want to,
but it would be nice for the other members to get to know you. Here's some
information you could include in your intro:
Your real name,
Your member name,
Your age,
What country you live in,
What your hobbies are,
Who your favourite BtVS characters is, etc.
ADVERTISEMENTS.
Got a website or mailing list you want to advertise? Why don't you make out
an
advertisement, send it to me at buffy_summers_tco@yahoo.co.uk, and I'll send it out (along with any other ads sent to me by other Chosen Ones) to
the list once a month. Remember to include your e-mail address, and your
real name and member name in the advertisement. And, of course, give a brief
discription of the list/site you're adverising.
You can also advertise your website by sending the address of it to Willow
(iter@clubi.ie) and she'll stick the address up on our site for
you.
TCO WEBSITE.
We have our own chatroom called The Bronze. You can find it on our
website, the address being:

If you are going into The Bronze, I'd just like to ask you to enter
with your member name and put TCO (The Chosen One) after it. This is so you
can immediately tell who is on The Chosen One mailing list when you
get in, as there might be people just visiting our website in there too. So,
for example, if I was going in, I'd go in as Buffy_TCO.
Also, members of TCO can have their profile up if they wish. Just check out
the existing profiles
on the website, and if you want to make one for yourself, then you can
either write it out in a similar manner as the existing ones, or you can
just jot down some information about yourself and Willow will sort it out
for you. Either way, when you're finished, just send it to her at
iter@clubi.ie and she'll fix it up on the site
Since Willow is actually the creator of our website and is in charge of it,

I am currently setting up a website for our list, which should get us more
members and hopefully become a freestanding website at some point. If anyone
wants to help out with this project, e-mail me, Willow, at
iter@clubi.ie.
People with html knowledge are especially welcome!!
You don't have to know anything about websites to help, and even if you have
an idea, or there's something you'd like to see on the site which isn't
there, let me know. I want to make this a site with something for everyone
on it. If you want to make a page but have no html knowledge you can e-mail
text to me (iter@clubi.ie) and I will fix it up on the site for you. I
also have others who can help out with this, and if anyone wants to help
with html commands but not the site, that would be useful too.
Any ideas for the site must go through me. I'll definitely agree to most
things, but it's just to keep things running smoothly for now. Don't paste
information on the site without my approval or Buffy's.
Any problems with getting to the site or opening pages should be sent to me
and I'll sort them out if possible.

QUOTES.
You can add quotes at the end of your signature if you want. Your quotes do
not have to be said by whatever character you are, infact they don't have to
be from BtVS at all. You can use quotes from anywhere, as long as they are
not offensive. Also, don't let your list of quotes exceed ten lines. Less,
if possible. And this does not mean that each individual quote can take up
no more than ten lines; all of your quotes together can't take up more than
ten lines!
UNSUBSCRBING YOURSELF.
You can unsub yourself at any time by sending a blank email to
BtVS.TheChosenOne-unsubscribe@topica.com -
or else you can ask me to unsub you - however, if you unsub yourself I do
ask that you let me know, so I can delete you from the forms and so that I
can make your member name available. If you want to leave the list for a few
weeks (if you're going on holidays, or you have important exams coming up;
whatever reason), then let me know and give me a vague idea of how long you'
ll be gone for. Your member name will be kept for you, and all you have to
do when you want to be subbed again is send me an email letting me know, or
send an email to BtVS.TheChosenOne-subscribe@topica.com.
Also, if you want to be subbed to the digest, just ask me! The digest option
helps cut down on mail in your inbox and keep your TCO mail together. You
still receive all messages sent to the list, but you get them in one long
e-mail which you receive once daily.
THE LIBRARY.
If you like to write stories or poetry and enjoy reading other people's
work, then why not join The Library? To join, send a blank message to
BtVS.TheLibrary-subscribe@topica.com. Here's the information you need
about it:
This is a list where you can send stories (and poems) you've written, and
read ones written by others. Or you can just read other members' stories and
not send out anything yourself, that's fine!
Your stories do not have to be BtVS related.
When posting to this list, please remember to add the following:
TITLE OF STORY/POEM
No duh!
Also, if your story is long, then only send one part (or chapter if it's in
chapters) per day.
AUTHOR
Please put down your real name and/or your member name on TCO list if you
are a member of TCO.
RATING
Consider any violence, sex, or bad language in your story, and base your
rating on that (think of the movies).
SPOILERS
If your story is BtVS related, give us an idea of what season it would be in
if it were to be turned into an episode.

PROBLEMS.
If there are any problems or questions you can always mail me
(buffy_summers_tco@yahoo.co.uk) and I will try to help. If you feel
that any member on the list is hassling you in any way, then it is essential
that you tell me. I am responsible for you while you are on this list and I
want to create as pleasant an atmosphere for you as I can. However, do not
complain about this member on-list. If I feel that it is necessary, then I
will mention it on-list, but the only person you need tell is me.
Any other problems, just let me know; my door is always open!
MPORTANT POINTS!
· Add 'OT/TAN:' if necessary in your subject line.
· Sign off using your member name, or if you do not yet have a member name,
sign off with your real name but make it clear that you do not yet have a
member name.
· Add spoiler spaces if necessary, and remember to say what season and
whereabouts in that season you are spoiling. The name of the episode alone
is not adequate. And if you're replying to a message, it may still need
spoiler spaces added.
· Make sure that if you are replying to a message, you quote enough of the
original message so that people can follow what you're talking about.
· Make sure the quotes in your signature do not exceed ten lines.
· Take into consideration that the age, race and religion of members vary.
Do not do anything which could offend other Chosen Ones (i.e. don't use
abusive language, don't make racist remarks etc.). Do not flame each other
on-list.
· Turn off your stationary. It does not work on some computers, and anyone
subbed to the digest wouldn't be able to see it at all and would instead end
up with a load of gibberish gobbledygook. Also, please don't send any
scanned pictures/text or attachments to the list for the same reason.
