LET IT REST
By: Marie and Crystal

Note: This is a rough draft.

Many Marla fans like myself feel she doesn't get enough airtime on, The Practice. With this in mind, Marie and I wrote this fan fic script over a period of a year and 1/2; working out storylines and so on. Please, feel free to share your comments
Marie and I have decided to keep the story line between Angel and Lucy going. As we do, we'll go through and tighten things up. So it's easier to follow. Right now, it's kinda mixed, because sometimes I wrote in things and other times she did. As for the legal stuff, we're just going for it, after all this is all in fun, right? I thought this song fit really well:
Trik Turner: Friends and Family Chorus Mp3
Length: 1min
From: www.trikturner.net
The midi playing is, Linkin Park: One Step Closer.
Clicking on Friends and Family will turn Linkin Park off. You can always click on then close, Trik Turner if you don't want to hear either song!

In this storyline, we introduce Lucy's younger street wise sister, Angel. With a colorful past. She's got this way of annoying everyone around her, especially, Lucy. They both have a lot of issues from the past to deal with. Like why Lucy really left and the truth about their Mother's death. Helen is acting like Richard through out this whole thing and....Okay, we won't give away the details....

It all Starts Here:

Scene: At Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt

(Lucy's rape counselor pager goes Off)

Lucy: I'm sorry but the Rape Crisis Center needs me, be back in awhile.

Ellenor: Didn't know you were still volunteering.

Lucy: Only when they absolutely need me.

Ext: Lucy

Scene: Angel's Hospital Room
Ent: Lucy

Lucy: Hi! I'm Lucy (walking towards Angel's bed) Hatcher with the....Angel!

Angel: No way, Lucy!

(Opening credits)

Scene: Angel's Hospital Room

Lucy: Oh my god! What happened?! I can't believe this!

Angel: I'm fine! Michael got mad because I took something he wanted to lift. He raped me!

Lucy: You mean stealing? I taught you better then that!

Angel: So, you left!

Lucy: Doctor Laneson, How is she physically?

Doctor Lanson: She's fine. She may be really sore in that area for awhile, but she's okay.

Lucy: Good! I'll call Ellenor and Eugene.

Angel: No! I don't want anyone else to know.

Lucy: Yes, we've got a case. Ellenor and Eugene are great laywers and friends of mine.

Ext: Lucy

Scene: Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt

Eugene: (getting off the phone) That was Lucy. Her sister was raped. She wants us to go down there.

Ellenor: Then let's go!

Lindsay: (saying to self) Lucy has a sister?

Scene: Angel's Hospital Room

Lucy: Angel, this is Ellenor and Eugene.

Action: Ellenor, Lucy, and Angel start talking in the background.

Eugene: (On his phone) Bobby? They can't arrest Angel, unless they can place her outside with the bracelet. They only have that she was raped.

Bobby's voice: Okay, we need to make arrangements for Angel to stay with one of us during the hearing.

Eugene: I'm on it.

Action: Eugene hangs up the phone

Eugene: Bobby, just told me there's a warrant out for Angel's arrest. Apparently, she stole a valuble bracelet from a store called, "Fulvio Fashions".

Angel: No way! That can't be possible.

Lucy: What? Damn it Angel!

Scene: Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt

Bobby: Jimmy, you and Ellenor work on defending Angel. "Fulvio Fashions" is the most respected high class retail store around. We're gonna have to work hard to get Angel off.

Bobby: Lindsay and Rebecca you take care of finding out what you can from the DA's. We've all got work to do. Also, go to the store and see what you can get out of the employees who were there.

Scene: Angel's Hospital Room

Both conversations are going on at the same time.

Eugene: Angel, here's what's gonna happen. "Fuvio Fashions" wants to prosecute.

AngeL: What, it was a five thousand dollar bracelet.

Lucy: Doctor, is she okay enough for me to take home?

Doctor Lanson: Sure, just sign this release form.

Action: Lucy signs the form and Eugene is helping Angel out of bed, so she can change clothes.

Eugene: Are you sure she's okay?

Angel: I'm fine! God!

Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt

Ent: Angel, Eugene, Lucy

Eugene: Angel is allowed to stay with Lucy on probation.

Lucy: Don't worry! I'll keep her out of trouble.

Angel: Great! Torture!

Lucy: If you feel that way, I'll kick your butt back into the streets.

Angel: No, thanks!

Lucy: Then quiet!

Acton: Angel moves towards a desk; pulls a little whoopie cushion from her pocket and places it on a chair. Then moves far away. Lindsay slides between her desk and chair. She sits down. This fart like sound comes out. She stands up.

Lindsay: Who? Why?

Lucy: (pointing to Angel) I think I have pretty good idea who!

Lindsay: Next time you do this...

Lucy: I'll handle it! Gee you were a joker at ten. (Not thinking about what she's saying!) Now your turning into me.

Angel: Huh!

Ent: Bobby

Bobby: Lucy once put a medical bag with a pop-up head on Ellenor's desk.

Angel: And, you get mad at me! Gee, that's fair!

Lucy: Thanks Bobby!

Bobby: (shrugs his shoulders) Sure!

Scene: In Fulvio Fashion; a first class clothing store

Lindsay: Hi! I'm the Lindsay Dole Angel's attorney. I was hoping you could give me some information.

Store Lady: I'm sorry I can't talk to you.

Lindsay: Then may I speak with your manager?

Store Lady: One moment, please.

Rebecca: Must have been one of these bracelets Angel took.

Ent: Store Owner and Manager, Mr. Fulvio

Fulvio: Yes, may I help you?

Lindsay: I'm looking into the shoplifting incident that happened yesterday. I was hoping you could give me some information.

Fulvio: Yes, earlier today we lost a five thousand dollar bracelet to a female shoplifter.

Lindsay: Would you be willing to drop the charges against her. You got the bracelet back.

Fulvio: No, I wouldn't. Shoplifters do us no justice.

Fulvio: I don't like shoplifters and I'm taking it to court. I don't wanna have this discussion anymore. Good day!

Scene: Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt

Lucy: What happened?

Rebecca: We're going to court!

Angel: Am I going to jail?

Lucy: No! Your going to the carnival. Yes, if we can't win, you little sister will be caged.

Ellenor: We're doing our best to get you off.

Lucy: If, Angel, does get convicted how long will she be in jail?

Lindsay: Two years! Or the DA's offer, one year at a juvenile correction facility and one year. probation.

Angel and Lucy: What, they call that an offer?

Angel: That's not an offer that's the same time split two ways.

Lindsay: Only because we have officers that are willing to say that you've been caught shoplifting and banned from stores before. We go to court tomorrow. Mr. Fulvio is a big name here. It's gonna be tough to get you off.

Scene: In the Courtroom {Legal Help Needed}

Helen: Helen Gamble for the Commonwealth

Ellenor: Ellenor Frutt for the defendant.

Jimmy: Jimmy Berluti second chair for the defendant.

Helen: Commonwealth calls, Officer Davis.

(Officer Davis takes the stands)

Helen: Can you please tell the court about your encounter with the defendant on March 14, 2002?

Officer Davis: Well, I was on call for a teenage shoplifter. I was told she stole a very expensive bracelet.

Helen: Did you see this kid before?

Officer Davis: Yes, I've stopped her many times before. We decided to let her go with a warning.

Helen: Why would you let her go?

Officer Davis: I remember my teen years, Ms. Gamble. I used to be in the defendant's chair. That's why I became a cop.

Helen: No further questions.

Ellenor: Did you see the defendant steal the bracelet?

Officer Davis: No, when I got there she was in the store.

Ellenor: If she was in the store, then how did she steal the bracelet?

Officer Davis: An employee of the store saw her with it. As she came in the doors. That's supposedly when the alarms were set off.

Ellenor: So you didn't see her with it. She was arrested in the store. You can't prove anything.

Officer Davis: She's been caught shoplifting before.

Ellenor: She's been caught shoplifting before? No further questions, Your Honor.

Scene: At Donnell, Young, Dole, and Frutt

Ent: Jimmy, Ellenor, Lucy, Angel

Bobby: Jimmy? Ellenor? How was the case?

Jimmy: We're gonna win!

Lindsay: What? How?

Ellenor: First, Helen is on the case. Second, they had no solid evidence.

Lucy: I can't believe Helen, took the case.

Ellenor: All they have is a bit of history and eyewitness' that didn't know what was fully going on.

Lucy: She admitted to doing it.

Ellenor: Without evidence, she's free.

Lucy: I'm curious, did you sign a confession statement?

Angel: No! Not that I know of.

Lucy: Good!

(Lucy goes back to her desk and sits down)

Ellenor: What's wrong with Lucy?

Bobby: She just lost her dad and Angel has charges against her.

Lucy: I care about, Angel. Not my step-father.

Action: Angel Over-hearing from Jimmy's desk

Angel: I didn't know you cared.

Jimmy: Come on, let's go.

Ext: Jimmy and Angel

Lindsay: Step-father?

Lucy: Angel's my half sister, same mother different fathers. She doesn't know that.

Lindsay: I think you should tell her.

Lucy: Did you know I taught Angel what she knows.

Ellenor: What?

Lucy: We grew up in bad situation. She needed to take care of herself. Never thought she'd turn on me.

Ellenor: The first rule of sisterhood is: Never teach them what they can throw back at you later. Speak from experience, middle of three. Older brother and a younger sister.

Lucy: Thanks! Where were you ten years ago?

Ellenor: Speaking of siblings, did you get the guardianship papers?

Lucy: What? No!

Ellenor: (starts going through alot of papers on her desk) Where are they?

Bobby: What are you looking for?

Ellenor: The guardianship papers for Lucy to sign.

Lucy: What? Would someone like to fill me in?

Ellenor: Well they're not here.

Bobby: Maybe the papers are on Lucy's desk.

Lucy: Nope, I haven't gotten them.

Ellenor: You don't think, Angel, could have them do you?

Bobby: Why would Angel want them?

Ellenor: Maybe she doesn't want to stay with Lucy!

Scene: In The Courtroom {Major Legal Tech}

Ellenor: Have you ever seen the defendant before?

Employee: No I haven't.

Ellenor: You said in your statement you saw the defendant with the bracelet outside.

Employee: That's right! This was after I saw her and her friend by the bracelet cases.

Ellenor: What you were doing while my client was by the bracelet cases? Employee: Helping another customer. I didn't think anyone would steal from such a crowded store. I had a feeling they were up to something.

Ellenor: Why didn't you stop her.

Employee: I was busy with a paying customer.

Ellenor: Shoplifters are paying customers. They make everyone pay.

Employee: True. Other people were by the cases.

Ellenor: Did you think someone would take notice?

Employee: Yes!

Ellenor: Well you were wrong!

Helen: Objection! Badgery!

Judge Swackheim: Sustained!

Ellenor: What I don't understand is why you would have a bracelet worth so much out on the tables like that.

Employee: We cater to the rich. It's rather cheap, compared to what's in our glass cases.

Ellenor: My understanding is, when my client was arrested, she was in the store. How did you know she was stealing it?

Employee: First she was by the bracelets, then outside, coming back in, the alarms went off.

Ellenor: So you weren't watching. Anything could have happen when you weren't looking. Isn't it possible my client was returning the bracelet after another youth stole it. She did return the bracelet! Did that occurr to you?

Employee: No that never occurred to me.

Ellenor: It never occured to you. No further questions Your Honor.

Helen: No questions for this witness Your Honor.

Judge Swackheim: You may step down.

Helen: I'd like to call up, Michael Baker.

Angel: I know that guy.

Ellenor: Angel how do you know him?

Angel: Small world. Actually in middle school. I know Kendall too. That's how I found, Lucy.

Helen: How long have you known Angel Hatcher?

Michael: Four or five years.

Helen: So you're good friends?

Micheal: Yes, I wouldn't be here if I wasn't.

Helen: Okay! Can you tell me in your own words what happened that day.

Micheal: Well, we wanted to check out the rich shops in the area. When we got to, "Fulvio's Fashions" Angel thought it'd be cooll to.....(Someone comes in with the requested survelance video)

Helen: Your Honor, I have a survalance video of what happened the day of the theft. I would like to call it in as evidence.

Judge Swackheim: Approach the bench!

Helen: This will prove our case.

Judge Swackheim: Mrs. Frutt?

Ellenor: Be my guest!

Judge Swackheim: Okay.

Helen: I would like to introduce this video tape to the court.

Action: She plays the tape, which is very grainy. It appears you can barely see Angel and Michael by the bracelet cases.

Helen: Appears there's a transfer being made. Let's see that in slow play. Okay now I'll pause it. Looks like Michael hands Angel a bracelet. (unpause) Angel hands it back. Now it's completely disappeared.

Action: (Helen turns the tape off)

Helen: Micheal can you explain what's going on?

Micheal: I thought the bracelet would look cool on my sister. She's into that kind of stuff.

Helen: What happened after Angel handed the braclet back to you?

Michael: I handed it back to her, where she pretended that it slipped out of her hands.

Helen: Did it really slip?

Micheal: Yeah it slipped right into her shoe, gee what a coincidence!

Angel: You traitor!

Ellenor: Angel, shut up!

Helen: No further questions your honor!

Scene: In The Hallway

Angel: You bitch! How could you turn my friends against me?

Ellenor: Angel, come on.

Jimmy: Angel, please, don't!

Helen: I didn't turn him against you. He turned himself against you.

Angel: No wonder, Lucy likes you so much.

Helen: What's that supposed to mean?

Fade into Scene: Donnell, Young, Dole, and Frutt

Ellenor: Eugene we need to talk.

Eugene: Okay....

Ellenor: Michael Baker rings a bell. He's one of Kendall's friends and Angel's as well. He's just like ruined our whole case.

Eugene: Micheal Baker? I remember, his mom turned Kendall in for drugs.

Ellenor: How is that gonna help us?

Rebbecca: Maybe he took a wrong turn since then.

Jimmy: Ellenor, when you think about it the bracelet did disappear after Micheal took it back.

Eugene: Are you questioning, Kendall? 'Cause Kendall hasn't been around that group since he moved in with Sharon.

Ellenor: Lucy? Get me anything you can on a Michael Baker. There's gotta be something on him.

Lindsay: A friend of mine saw, Angel, Michael, Kendall and a couple other kids by "Fulvio Fashions".

Ellenor: What?

Lindsay: She saw Angel take a braclet from one of the boys.

Jimmy: Who was it?

Lindsay: How am I supposed to know? He was an old student.

Ellenor: How does that help?

Lindsay: I'll see if she can help us.

Lucy: How are you gonna do that without a name?

Eugene: Kendall would know his name.

Lucy: Would you like me to get Kendall on the phone?

Angel: Let me save you time! I know his name.

Ellenor: Look, she speaks! You let us go through all of that.

Angel: It was fun to watch such a busy firm.

Lucy: Told ya, trouble!

Angel: His name is Seymore Butts!

Rebecca: Who's Seymore Butts!

Angel: You have, Ms. Washington!

Ellenor: What's his name?

Angel: Alright! Thomas Richards

Scene: Philip Middle School: The front desk

Lindsay: Is Lauren McMillian in?

Receptonist: She's in a class at the moment. School gets out in ten minutes, is it important?

Scene: Donnell, Young, Dole nd Frutt

Lucy: I found something on, Thomas. He's been busted for shoplifting, literally.

Ellenor: What?

Lucy: Not little things like Jewlry but big things like cars.

Scene: Philip Middle School

Lindsay: I need some information on an old student of yours, Thomas Richards.

Lauren: His records are filed away. I only have records for his attendance and grades.

Lindsay: okay, guess that'll help me out a bit.

Lauren: Why the interest in this student?

Lindsay: It's for a case.

Lauren: Okay. Here it is. (pulling out a book from a file cabinet) My old records from that time. You can take a look at them.

Linday: (Takes the book and starts scanning it) He was suspended? For what?

Lauren: He was arrested. This school makes you write suspended. I don't know why.

Lindsay: Me neither. Thanks!

Lauren: Sure, If you need me to testify against him, I will.

Lindsay: The case is against, Angel!

Scene: Dnnell, young, Dole ad Frutt

Lindsay: You are not gonna believe what I found out?

Rebecca: Same here. You first!

Lindsay: Thomas was arrested. I couldn't find out for what though.

Lucy: He was arrested for grand theft auto.

Ellenor: Angel, could you choose your friends anymore wisely? You've got this system so twisted.

Angel: How else am I supposed to make a clean escape?

Scene: The Courtroom

Ellenor: Mr. Baker, do you have any previous arrests or run in th the law?

Michael: No, I don't.

Ellenor: Are you sure you have never been arrested for any crime?

Michael: If my record was any cleaner, you could eat it.

Ellenor: Do you know who, Thomas Richards is?

Michael: Yes, he's a good friend of mine, we're very close.

Ellenor: Close enough to maybe be the same person?

Michael: I don't know what your talking about.

Ellenor: I'm sure you don't. Here's the real Michael Baker. The young man on the witness stands, looks like Michael. But he is really, Thomas Richards a known car thief. With a prison record mile long.

Commercial Break

Scene: The DA's Office

Ellenor: Sorry, If I ruined your mop and glow moments, Helen. Your witness has been arrested for grand theft auto! What did you do? Make a deal with him?

Helen: What? Come on Ellenor, you know me better then that.

Ellenor: Turns out Michael Baker looks exactly like another one of Angel's friends. Thomas Richards, who was arrested for grand theft auto.

Helen: Let me get this straight, the guy who I thought was Michael on the stands was really this car thief, Thomas? Wow, Angel's really got this system wired. What? You think, I knew about it and put him up there because he was good for the case?

Ellenor: That's what I said.

Ext: Ellenor

Scene: In Lucy's apartment

Action: Lucy is curled up in a chair reading a book. Angel walks in wearing P.J's and with dripping wet hair.

Angel: (leaning over the chair Lucy's in) What are you reading?

Lucy: 'Tomorrow When the War Begun'

Angel: What's it about?

Lucy: Love, war, annoying sisters in trouble with the law!

Angel: Why is an adult like you reading a teen's book?

Lucy: It was my fave when I was about your age. Every once in awhile I read it for fun.

Angel: Cool. Who wrote it?

Lucy: John Marsden!

Action: Angel's wet hair has made a big wet patch on Lucy's book.

Lucy: (pushing Angel away) Angel, do you have to stand so close!!!

Action: Lucy gets up and starts looking for something to dry the book while talking to Angel.

Lucy: What are we going to do with you?

Angel: Your the oldest, you'll think of something.

Lucy: Don't worry! I will.

Angel: I can't stay with Mom. Haven't seen her since dad croaked.

Action: Lucy, ignoring Angel puts her book between two book shelves to dry. Then she reaches for the hair dryer, when Angel snatches it.

Angel: Thank you!

Lucy: Angel!

Action: Angel sits down in another chair and begins tapping her foot on the floor while drying her hair.

Lucy: Angel, do you have anything you would like to say?

Angel: What?

Lucy: You are so annoying. You've been giving me a hard time since you got here! Only someone that is stupid would tick me off.....well!

Angel: Dad's funeral is tomorrow. I don't have anything nice to wear.

Lucy: Oh! and I suppose you want to borrow something of mine.

Angel: Lucy, I want to look nice not (stops).

Lucy: His funeral is tomorrow. We'll go shopping tomorrow. Have any money?

Angel: Only (reaching for her wallet) $100.

Lucy: Did you steal that?

Angel: Yes! (turning the hairdryer off) from mom's wallet.

Lucy: Alicia is not your mom. Go to bed!!

Angel: Can't I watch TV or something, 9 p.m. is too early for me. By the way, she was more of a mom to me than your mom was.

Lucy: TV? No, way! Go to bed or read a book.

Angel: Damn, your bossy!

Lucy: (listening in then yelling) My house, my rules!

Angel: It's not a house, it's an apartment!

Scene: The Streets of Boston

Action: walking down the street

Angel: (pointing to a posh dress store) Can we look in there?

Lucy: What? That's the same store that's taking you to court! What are you stupid?!

Angel: So, I'm not stupid! We're potential customers.

Lucy: Alright! They approach us, we're outta there!

Angel: Why?

Lucy: They'd only approach us to kick us out.

Angel: Not necessarily!

Scene: In the store

Lucy: (holding up an ode Green gown) You'd look good in this.

Angel: Ewwww! What are you? Blind! (walks across the room to another dress) I like this one.

Lucy: (Walking towards Angel) It's nice. (Checking the price) We don't have four hundred dollars.

Angel: I could beg for it!

Lucy: Your Hopeless!

Angel: Why! Thank you!

Lucy: Never mind!

Angel: (Seeing a bright shiny blue dress) This one is beautiful. (Holds the dress to her body)

Lucy: I know dad would want you to look nice. This is a funeral! Not a prom!

Angel: Maybe you like shooping at one dollar Dress Rack. But that's not me!

Store lady 1: Excuse me girls but are you lost? We don't allow children in here unsupervised.

Lucy: we are not children we are...

Action: Angel interrupts

Angel: Please, excuse my sister. Our father's funeral is today and I was told you sold the most beautiful dresses here.

Store lady 1: Thank you. I'm sorry about your father.

Lucy: Yeah right!

Angel: That's ok. How about the dress.

Store lady 1: I'm sorry are you sure you weren't told to go to 'Budget Gowns' across the street. I'm sure everything here is out of your price range.

Scene: Outside Fulvio Fashions

Lucy: What the heck, were you thinking?

Angel: Buying a dress.

Lucy: Buying a dress my ass.

Angel: I thought it was fun.

Lucy: You call that fun?

Angel: You and mom seemed to like it. I remember the stories you told me. After you and mom came home laughing and smiling. Mom told me I could come when I was bigger. Don't you remember? It was always the same "When your bigger, you can come". Mom died before I was old enough. You used to tell me those stories. You made me feel like I was out with you and mom, when I wasn't.

Lucy: Angel, I remember. That's why I told you the stories. Unfortunately, that was a very long time ago. Those kinds of outings are no longer fun. When you look back on it, they were embarassing.

Angel: (pushing Lucy away) Don't say that just to make me feel better Lucy. You loved those outings and you know it!!

Action: Lucy reaches out and grabs Angel's arm

Angel: Lucy, I hate you!!

Action: Runs across the road just before the traffic lights turn green
