Wasn't it good, Wasn't it fine

Wouldn’t you know it
I’ve lost my courage
Isn’t that funny
Me lost for words
Not that it really matters
Cause I know you know
And you would have told me
Yourself if you could

Sheridan found herself staring at Luis, tears threatening the corners of her eyes. She hadn’t wanted him to know she was feeling this way, hadn’t intended to break down, and most surely hadn’t meant to start singing. But sometimes, she found that she could only find her emotions through music. So here she was, singing in the middle of lighthouse park while the mist rolled in off the ocean. Luis took one of her hands and she didn’t object to it’s being there.

Remember the first time
We met each other
You were in your world
And I was in mine
Breaking down the barriers
We broke all the rules
And wasn’t it good
Wasn’t it fine
While I took for granted you took your time
Longing for love oh how we tried
It’s over now that’s understood; but wasn’t it good?

Sheridan walked through the surf rolling in, barefoot in the coarse white sand, leading Luis by the hand, and reminiscing about the past in tune. It was a full round sound her throat made, but at the same time, Luis could hear all the hurt and hope in her voice. She had enjoyed all those moments as much as him. He could hear that now. But she thought he was using her...and that tore him up.

So long together
Two would be lovers
Caring for flowers that just wouldn’t grow
And in all of our tomorrow’s
We’ll have yesterdays and wasn’t it good
Wasn’t it fine
While I took for granted you took your time
Longing for love oh how we tried
It’s over now that’s understood
But wasn’t it good

Sheridan stopped somewhere between a rocky ledge and the wooden walkway back up to the sidewalk. Luis stared into those eyes, the ones that had haunted him since last summer, and felt a tears slip down his cheek. She had poured her heart out to him tonight on this beach, and no one had heard her sing.

She had opened up so much in two days that he felt like he knew her completely. Soul and all. He reached out for both of her hands. She took them and he pulled her into a tight embrace. He felt her tears soak his shirt, and she felt his tears soak into her hair. He whispered in her ear “It wasn’t me baby. Please believe me! Come on you have to believe. I...I love you Sheri” he choked out his words from the bottom of his heart. “I believe you luis, I always have I think. And I love you too” she whispered back. They leaned in for a sweet kiss, and they stood there, tasting, trusting, loving, as the light from the lighthouse swept over them, carrying their love out to sea as they walked hand in hand to the cottage.
