Chapter 2: Protecting Love
Back at Sheridan's cottage, Mike and Sheridan had just returned rom dinner. Sheridan was about to
go out of her mind. Mike was very serious about his job, he didn't let her out of his sight. Hell, he
even stood outside the ladies' restroom when she went in. She hadn't had a minute alone to herself.
She thought going for a walk would clear her head. She made a move for the door but Mike quickly
stopped her.
"I'm sorry Ms. Crane but you can't leave." Mike said.
"Excuse me. Are you telling me I can't walk around my family's estate?"
"That's exactly what I'm saying, you can't leave."
"I'll go where I please. You work for me let's not forget that."
"I haven't forgotten I'm just doing my job." Mike stated.
"Whatever. I'm going to go change." she said frustrated.
She went into her room and changed into an all black outfit there was no way she was going to put
up with Mike. She quietly lifted the window up and climbed out. She snuck out to the mansion and
took the keys to the red Mercedes convertible. She was on her way to the Crane cabin. She was in
an hurry, so in an hurry that she didn't know she was speeding. She was smiling as she remembered
going down the same road in which Luis chased her. Suddenly she heard sirens. She looked in the
rearview mirror and saw a police car.
"Dammit." She muttered under her breath.
"I don't have time for this." She sped up, she was doing at least 95. The patrol car was no longer
there when she looked in her mirror. She sighed showing relief. She suddenly slammed on the
brakes to avoid hitting the squad car that was in front of her. She began to put the car in reverse but
the cop ordered her out. She stepped out one foot at a time with her hands up. The cop walked
towards her with his gun drawn.
"Turn around nice and slow." Sheridan recognized the voice.
"Luis." she said turning around.
"Sheridan." Luis said. She smiled at him.
"Deja Vu officer." He put away his gun and walked over to her. They were smiling at each other
until Luis noticed she was by herself. His smile quickly turned into a frown.
"Sheridan, where is Mike, your bodyguard?" Sheridan tried to get back into her car, opening the
door but luis closed it.
"Sheridan, where is Mike?" he said raising his voice at her. Sheridan winced at the sound in his
voice. She didn't know how to answer him because she knew he would be mad. She just stayed
quiet.
"Sheridan, i asked you a question. Answer me." Luis demanded.
"Don't tell me what to do!" Sheridan yelled. Luis calmed down, his face softening towards her.
Sheridan saw the same man she did a couple of months ago on their date at the Lobster Shack.
"Sheridan will you please tell me where Mike is? He's suppose to be protecting you, where is he?"
Luis asked again this time a little less harsh. He almost had a kind of sweetness in his voice. She
could not answer him.
"I left him at my cottage." Sheridan said looking down at the ground. Luis became angry all over
again. He thought 'She's got to be joking!' but looking at her he knew that she was telling the truth.
He became even angrier. He grabbed her chin gently and raised her face so he could look her in the
eye. When she finally looked in his eyes she knew very well that he was beyond angry or he was
getting there.
"What do you mean you left him at your cottage? Sheridan what the hell is your problem? Your
life is in danger and you don't seem to give a damn!"
"It's my life Luis!" she said finally getting her nerve back.
"You won't have a life if you keep this up...this is it, I'm through arguing with you Sheridan."
Sheridan's face washed over in relief, but not for long.
"Sheridan your under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be
held against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney if you cannot afford one, one will
be appointed to you...." He said as he slapped the handcuffs on her wrist and put her in the back of
the squad car.
