Chapter 5: Desire
Chapter 5:
Luis drove off to the Youth Center to find Hank. His first thought was
that Hank would be there. Then again, was Hank stupid enough to be hanging
around the place he worked, after what he did to Sheridan?...... 'Maybe so.
Hank was stupid enough to actually try to hurt Sheridan. He should have known
that I would get him.' Luis parked the car and got his handcuffs ready. He
was prepared to pounce on Hank as soon as he saw him. Actually, he was about
ready to kill him. Luis ran into the Youth Center. It seemed to be empty. He
walked around the Youth Center many times, but couldn't find him. "Guess he
isn't here." Luis said to himself. Luis looked out the window at the Book
Cafe. "Maybe Beth knows where he is," Luis said. Luis walked out of the Youth
Center and went to the Book Cafe.
Beth was cleaning a table when Luis came in. "Beth," Luis called. When
Beth saw him come up to her, gave him a huge smile. "Oh. Hi Luis." Luis was
annoyed at how weird she was around him, but he forced a smile at her. "Hi.
Um... Beth." "Yes," she asked excitedly. Luis said, "Have you seen Hank
around lately?" Beth's smile faded, but she said, "Actually, I saw him about
10 minutes ago." Luis said, "Do you know where he is now?" "Before he left,
he told me he was heading over to your place. It was kind of strange though,
because he saw you going inside the Youth Center while he was here. I wonder
why he wants to go there." Luis's heart stopped and his stomach turned. How
could he have been so stupid? Hank was over at his house and Luis wasn't
there to protect her. "Oh no," Luis thought and he turned and ran out the
door, leaving Beth standing there confused.
Luis jumped in his car and raced back to his house. He just prayed that
Pilar would be able to protect her until he got there. He took out his
cellphone and called his house. The operator came on and said, "We're sorry.
The line you have called has been disconnected and is no longer in service."
Luis turned off the phone and threw it on the floor. "DAMNIT!!" he yelled,
"Now I know something's wrong."
When Luis got to the house, he jumped out and ran to the door, before he
even got there, Pilar ran out of the house and hugged him. "Oh Luis. Thank
god." Luis pulled back from her and looked at her. Pilar had a large cut on
her head. "Mama. What happened? Where's Sheridan?" Luis asked, getting
worried. Pilar replied, "When Hank got here, he pushed me out of the way, and
ran into the house. I tried to stop him, but I couldn't." Without a word,
Luis flew inside the house. He looked around frantically to find Sheridan or
Hank, or both of them. He just prayed that Hank hadn't hurt her. He had
promised her that he wouldn't let her get hurt.
Somewhere else in the house, Hank was looking for Sheridan. He quietly
walked though every room to find her. The night before, he had been drunk,
and he remembered what he did to her. He felt really bad about it now, even
though he wanted to for so long, but what was done, was done. Now, he had to
get rid of her, or he would be put in jail and his life would be ruined.
Then, he would get rid of Pilar so that no one would be able to testify
against him. He went around a corner and bumped into Sheridan. "Well... hello
Sheridan." He said when he saw her face. Sheridan let out a loud scream and
Hank pushed her against the wall and put his hand over her mouth. "You're not
getting away this time, Sheridan." He put his hands around her neck and began
to choke her. Sheridan tried to scream and gasp for air, but his hands were
squeezing tighter and tighter. Sheridan couldn't breathe anymore. She began
to feel weak and dizzy. Her last thoughts before she passed out were, 'I love
you, Luis.'...
