Chapter 20: Desire

Chapter 20:

As soon as Luis hung up the phone, he turned to Sam. He had a wide look of fear in his eyes. "It's Sheridan. She's in trouble!" "My god. Where is she?" Sam asked as Luis started to gather up his weapons. "I think she's in the mountains. She's being held hostage. I need to get up there fast, or I'll loose her forever." Luis stated. "All right, let's go," Sam said as he ran out of the station with Luis and into the police car. As soon as they got in, Luis started up the car and flew away before the doors were even shut. He was driving like a mad man, going about 85 miles per hour.

He didn't go too far, before Sam yelled, "LUIS", and he stopped the car. He looked over at Sam, who looked terrified. Sam said, "Maybe you should let me drive." Luis reluctantly got up and switched seats with Sam. As they continued driving, Sam said, "Geez, Luis. If you drive like you just did, you're going to get someone killed." "I know. I'm sorry Sam," Luis apologized, "It's just that I have to get to Sheridan before something happens to her. I can't let her get hurt again." Sam patted Luis on the shoulder. "Don't worry. It will be all right." Sam said. Luis stared out the window at the mountains. 'Please god, let Sheridan be all right. Things can't end this way.'

Back in the mountains, Sheridan heard footsteps coming down the stairs. She jumped up when she thought it would be Luis coming to rescue her, but then, she heard the person say, "Your time has come, Sheridan. You must die." She recognized the acsent and knew that it was Antoine. He was planning to kill her now. 'God, if I don't do something fast, I will never get out of here alive.' Sheridan looked around and got an idea. She went behind the door and waited. Finally, the door opened and a figure stepped into the room. As soon as Sheridan saw him, she pushed him over and made a run for the door. She tried to lock Antoine in, but he stopped the door from closing.

After a few moments of struggling, Sheridan gave up and made a run for it. She ran up the stairs until Antoine caught her leg. "You'll never get away from me, Madmoiselle Crane." With all of her strength, Sheridan pushed Antoine off and he fell. Sheridan continued to run up the stairs. When she opened the door, she saw that she was in a broken down basement with machinery everywhere. She looked around and saw a knife sitting on the table. Before she could do anything, Antoine came up and tackled her from behind. Sheridan struggled as hard as she could to get free. She looked over at the knife that was a few yards away and she got an idea.

She rolled over to the knife, grabbed it, and stabbed Antoine in the heart. Antoine screamed and let go of Sheridan. Sheridan got up and ran for the door to get out of the basement. Antoine fell to the ground as blood ran from his chest. When Sheridan reached the door, she discovered that it was locked. As she struggled to open it, Antoine said, "If I'm going down, you're coming down with me." With his last ounce of strength, he lifted his gun and pointed it at Sheridan. Sheridan stared at him with eyes full of fear. She was trapped. There was no way out of this one.

Antoine pulled the trigger, but inside of hitting Sheridan, it went right past her and hit a gas machine. The machine exploded into a cloud of flames and heat. Sheridan screamed and jumped away from it, just before she could get swallowed up by the flames. She looked over at Antoine, who gave her an evil smile before passing out. Sheridan looked up at the fire, that was quickly beginning to spread. She ran in the other direction, trying to find some way to get out.

Now that she knew that Luis loved her, she just had to survive. She wouldn't let herself die. She finally found a door and ran to it. When she turned the knob, she was releived to find that it was open. But before she could make a move, a giant piece of wood came flying at her. She jumped out of the way and ran out of the basement, but the fire continued to follow her into the next room, burning everything in it's path. Sheridan continued to run through the house, trying to get out.

**A HALF-AN-HOUR LATER**

Luis and Sam were driving through the forest in the mountains, looking for the cabin that Sheridan was being held hostage in. Luis's heart was pounding the whole time they were driving, thinking that by the time he got there, it would already be too late to save Sheridan. Luis tried to push those negative thoughts out of his head. Loosing Sheridan was definitely not an option. She was going to live. She just had to. He needed to hold her in his arms again, to kiss her passionately, and tell her how much he loved her. If she died, he didn't know what he would do. He stared out the window at the sky. It was night time and the sky was a very dark blue. There were stars twinkling everywhere. It looked like a picture of heaven. Luis forced a weak smile and prayed for Sheridan to be safe.

"What the heck is that?" Sam asked. Luis looked down from the sky and looked at Sam. "What, Sam?" Luis asked. "What is that?" Sam asked as he pointed out in front of him. Far in the distance, Luis could see a huge bright yellow light shining. It was flickering and moving around in a strange way. As they got closer to it, it all came into focus. When they were close enough, Luis's heart sank when he saw that they were huge flames of fire, consuming a cabin. "Oh my god. It's a fire!" Luis shouted. Sam gasped when they pulled into a clearing and were face to face with a burning cabin. The cabin was completely covered in flames. They stopped the car and starred at the cabin. They got out of the car and starred at the cabin.

Luis took one step forward and stepped on something. He looked down to the ground and saw something silver. He picked it up and dusted it off. It was the compact that he gave Sheridan many months ago. The compact slipped out of his hands and dropped to the ground. Luis became weak in the knees and he suddenly felt dizzy, like the world was crumpling around him.

"Oh no! SHERIDAN!!!" Luis cried as he took off towards the house. Before he went more than seven steps, Sam tackled him from behind. "Luis! Are you crazy? You'll get yourself killed." "I have to save her! I can't let her die!" Luis cried as tears started to come down his face. Sam pulled Luis back and held onto him tightly. "Luis. Get a hold of yourself. You can't go inside. I'll call the fire department and they will be here within minutes."

Sam said. Luis glared at Sam. "Sam, by then it could be too late. We have to get in there now!" Luis shouted. Sam said, "Luis. Just calm down. Sheridan will be all right." Sam pulled him into the car and locked him inside. Luis didn't say anything. He just starred at the cabin that was being consumed by the flames. He was in shock. He had never been more afraid in his whole life. This feeling inside of him was unbearable. The feeling that he would never see the love of his life ever again. He reached into his pocket an pulled out the small velvet box that he got at the jewelery store for Sheridan.

He rubbed his fingers along the box and opened the box. Inside, there was a beautiful silver ring with three small diamonds across it. It seemed to sparkle in the night time. Then, he pulled out some papers that were in his pockets. He looked at the papers and a picture of the beautiful house that he had seen earlier. The house that was supposed to be their's forever. He put the papers back into his pocket. He took the small ring out of the box and brought it up to his face. He kissed it lightly before putting in back into the box. He closed the box and clutched it close to his heart. 'It was suppose to be you and me, Sheridan. Forever and Always.'
