Chapter 16: Desire
Chapter 16:
Outside of the hospital, Antoine sat in his car. He had arrived in
Harmony and was ready to kill Sheridan like Roger and Pierre had ordered him
to. Antoine had even messed with Sheridan's car so that her breaks wouldn't
work as well. He had hoped that it would have killed her, but unfortunately,
she had survived. But not all hope was lost. She was in the hospital,
unconscious. It would be easy to kill her now. But he also knew that Luis was
in there, watching over her. If he walked in, and Luis saw him, he would have
his head. Antoine had eventually fallen asleep in his car after waiting all
night. He was waiting to see Luis come out of the hospital, but the doors
never opened. Antoine was now awake, still waiting in his car. He was getting
tired of waiting. He pulled out his cellphone and dialed.
"Hello?" the voice said. "Roger. It's Antoine." "Antoine. Is Sheridan
Crane dead yet?" Roger asked. "No. I almost did, but she is in the hospital
now. I am still outside the hospital." Antoine replied. "Well, then what are
you waiting for? Go in and kill her," Roger ordered. "I can't. That American
cop friend is with her. If he sees me, he'll know I had something to do with
Sheridan's car accident. He is still at the hospital with her now." "Hmmm.
Yes, that does present a problem. But wait as long as you have to, sooner or
later, the hospital will make Luis leave, and when he does, Sheridan will be
an easy target to kill." Roger smiled. Antoine looked at the hospital and
said, "Yes, such a pity that it has to end like this, for such a beautiful
lady, but I have to do it. As soon as the American cop leaves, I will kill
her." Antoine smiled evilly and let out an evil laugh.
Inside the hospital, Luis was still laying his head on Sheridan's chest,
fast asleep. The sounds of her heart beat and her breathing were like a
lullaby that soothed him and put him to sleep. Feeling the warmth of
Sheridan's body made him feel so comforted. He had no bad dreams that night,
only good ones. Dreams of living a happy, peaceful life with the woman he
loved...
**DREAM**
Luis pulled his car to a stop. He got out and went to the other side. He
opened up the passenger side door and helped Sheridan out of the car. She was
blindfolded and had no idea what was going on. "Luis. What's going on?"
"You'll see Sheridan," Luis said. He took her hands and pulled her forward.
He walked with her, guiding her along, until he came to a stop. "Now can I
see," Sheridan asked. "No. Not yet. I'm gonna take the blindfold off, but I
want you to keep your eyes closed okay?" Luis said. Sheridan said quickly,
"Okay." Luis smiled and said, "I don't believe you." "What?" "I don't believe
that you'll keep your eyes closed like I asked you to." "Oh, Luis. I can't
take the suspense. Just take off the blindfold." Luis stepped closer to her
and brushed his lips on her cheek and her neck, sending chills through her
body. Luis whispered, "For me... don't open your eyes until I say okay?"
Sheridan answered, "Okay. I promise." Luis believed her and he slowly took
off the blindfold. "Keep your eyes closed." He said. Sheridan smiled and had
her eyes closed as tightly as possible, trying to fight the temptation to
open them and look. Luis lead Sheridan a little bit further. Finally, they
stopped. Sheridan was curious as she felt the wind blowing against her face
softly and the strange, but soothing smell in the air. Luis let go of her
hands and walked up behind her. He put his arms around her and peered over
the shoulder. Sheridan put her hands on his arms as he held her close. Luis
whispered, "All right. Open your eyes." Sheridan slowly opened her eyes and
gasped as what she saw. They were standing on a high cliff above the ocean.
Below them, she saw a beautiful beach.
The sun was setting and the sky had a
pinkish orangish hue in it. It was the most beautiful sight she had ever
seen. "Oh my gosh, Luis. This is wonderful." By the excitement in Sheridan's
voice, Luis could tell that she was excited. "I can see that you like it." He
said. "Like it? I love it!" She said. Sheridan looked down at her feet and
saw that they weren't standing on a cliff, but on a balcony. She turned
around and saw a beautiful house behind Luis. It was a gorger house. She
said, "Luis. Where are we?" "Our new home." "What?" "Sheridan..." Luis
kneeled on one knee, "I love you. I love you more than I have ever loved
anyone else. More than anyone else in this world. You make my life complete.
I don't know what I'd do without you. I can't imagine going through a day
without seeing your face. Sheridan, will you marry me?" By this time,
Sheridan had tears running down her cheeks and she was beaming from ear to
ear. "Oh Luis. Of course I will." She ran into his arms and kissed him
passionately...
**REALITY**
Luis awoke from his dream, very happy. It took him a few moments to
remember where he was, and then he felt the warm skin next to him. He was
back at the hospital with Sheridan. It felt so good to be here with her. To
feel her skin next to his. He slowly lifted up his head to look at Sheridan.
He smiled and brought his hand behind her head and began to massage her neck.
He leaned in and gave her a soft, but full kiss on the lips. He pulled back
and smiled at her and marveled at how beautiful she was. He couldn't wait for
her to wake up so he could tell her that he loved her and he wanted her back.
He just hoped that she would listen to him.
Luis heard the door open and turned around to see Beth standing there.
"Beth?" "Hi, Luis." "What are you doing here?" asked Luis. "Well, I heard
about Sheridan, so I came over to see how she was." 'Right. Like I would
really give a damn about Sheridan. I just wish that Luis would stay away from
her.' Beth thought. She walked over to Luis and said, "Luis. You have been
here all night." "I can't leave Sheridan," said Luis. Beth said, "Come on.
I'll take you to the Book Cafe for a drink." "Oh, I don't know Beth. I have
this feeling that Sheridan needs me here." Beth thought for a minute and then
came up with a sly idea. "Luis. You really care about Sheridan, don't you?"
Luis looked up at Beth and said, "I love her." Beth cringed inside and said,
"You wouldn't want her to get hurt, physically and emotionally, right?"
"Right?" "Well... then, I don't think that Sheridan would want you to be
spending every second by her side. It will make her feel bad to know that she
caused you pain."
Luis looked at Sheridan, tears welling up in his eyes and
said, "I could never hurt her. Never." "Well, she would be very hurt to know
that you are in this kind of pain. Come with me to the Book Cafe." Beth said.
Luis hesitated for a second and then got up, "Okay. I'll come." Beth smiled,
"Great. Let's go." Beth grabbed his hand and Luis said, "Wait!" He walked
over to Sheridan and gave her a soft kiss that made Beth's blood boil. They
then walked out of the hospital and headed towards the Book Cafe.
Outside of the hospital, Antoine was waiting to see Luis leave. He smiled
as he saw Luis walking away with another woman. "Well, well, well. Isn't this
interesting? While Ms. Crane is in the hospital, the American cop is seeing
someone else." Antoine watched to make sure that Beth and Luis were out of
sight and then he said, "Now, it's time to put my plan into action." He got
out of his car and walked into the hospital...
