Chapter 15: Desire

Chapter 15:

"WHAT?!" Luis shouted, as he jumped up from the couch. The person said, "Sheridan Crane had been in a car accident, sir." Luis's knees buckled and he collapsed on the couch in shock. This couldn't be happening. Sheridan was hurt. She could be dying. The man continued, "She is over at the Harmony Hospital right now. We called her nephew and he said you should know about it. Can you come over to the hospital? Luis? Luis?" Luis didn't hear most of the sentence. He was out of the door in a matter of seconds and drove away quickly.

As Luis drove to the hospital, a million thoughts raced through his head. This just couldn't be happening. Sheridan had to be all right. She just to be. She had to know that he still loved her, that he wanted to be with her forever and ever. Luis remembered the look on Sheridan's face when he told her he couldn't see her anymore. She looked devastated. He could see all the pain in her eyes. She was terribly upset. If Sheridan didn't make it, he would never forgive himself. And he would never be able to live without her in the first place.

Luis pulled into the hospital and jumped out. He ran into the hospital and almost ran over some nurses. He was like a mad man. He finally got to the right floor and saw Pilar and Ethan there. Pilar saw Luis and ran to him. "Oh Luis. Thank god you're here." Luis hugged her as she cried and looked up at Ethan. "Ethan, what happened?" Ethan said, "I don't know. She got into a car accident. Luckily someone found her and called 911." Luis pulled back from his mother when he saw a doctor come out of the room that Ethan and Pilar were standing by. The doctor began to walk away, but Luis grabbed his arm. "Excuse me. Is Sheridan going to be okay?" Luis said, with fear in his voice, afraid to hear the answer. "Come down, sir. Sheridan will be fine. She is unconscious right now, but she will wake up soon. She is very lucky that come people walked by and saw her. They were so concerned about her, they are still at the hospital." "Yeah, I would like to thank them too." Luis smiled. The doctor walked away and Luis walked into Sheridan's room. His heart skipped as he saw Sheridan lying there. She had bruises and cuts all over her. Luis hated to see her like this. If it hurt this much for him to see her like this, he couldn't imagine what she felt like, not only from the accident. She had looked like her heart had been ripped out of her chest when he told her he couldn't see her anymore. Luis knew that he only did it for Sheridan safety, but it wasn't enough anymore. He needed to be with her. He would protect her from Jullian no matter what. He would make sure that Jullian wouldn't even come near Sheridan again. He was just relieved that she was safe. He couldn't wait to tell her how sorry he was. He sat down on a chair next to the bed. He touched her hand and he quivered. It felt so good to touch her again, but he was so afraid that he would loose her. Luis brought her hand up to his face and kissed it softly. A few tears fell from his eyes as he watched her.

Luis heard the door open and turned around. Ethan was standing there, followed by a man. Ethan said, "Luis. This is Harold Stevenson. He is the man who found Sheridan." Luis smiled at walked up to the man. "Hello," he said as he shook his hand. Harold looked at Sheridan. "How is she?" "She's still unconscious." Luis answered. The man nodded, "She's very lucky to have survived." Luis said, "Yeah. Thank god that you found her. If it weren't for you__." "Actually, it wasn't me." Harold said. The door opened again and Luis looked down at a little girl in the doorway. Harold looked at Luis and said, "It was my daughter, Julie." Luis smiled at the little girl. Julie walked over to Sheridan and looked at her for a moment, then, she looked back at her father. "Daddy. Is she going to be okay?" "Yeah, honey. She'll be fine." Harold replied. Luis walked over to Julie and crouched down so he was at eye level with her. "So, you found Sheridan?" Luis asked. Julie nodded. Luis smiled and said, "Thank you so much. You've saved her life. I don't know how I'll ever thank you." Julie smiled at gave Luis a hug. "No problem," Julie said as she hugged Luis. Harold came forward and said, "Well, we just wanted to make sure she was all right. It was nice meeting you, Luis, but we'd better get going." "But Daddy. I want to stay until the lady wakes up." Julie whined. Harold said, "We'll come back later and see her then." Julie nodded and looked at Luis. Luis said, "Thanks again, Julie." Julie smiled and walked out of the room with her father.

Luis resumed his place next to Sheridan's bed and held her hand tightly. He waited impatiently for her to wake up. It seemed to take forever. Pilar came in and said, "Luis. It's late. Maybe you should go home, and visiting hours are over." Luis looked up at his mother. "I don't care about the visiting hours. She needs me to be here with her. I want to be here for her when she wakes up." "Hijo. It's late. Go home and get some rest." "How am I supposed to sleep while knowing that she's here, alone. I know that she can feel my presence. She needs me, and I need her." Luis answered. Pilar smiled and said, "The doctors will not let you stay. They'll have you thrown out." "Then they will have to drag me away kicking and screaming, but there is no way in hell I am leaving Sheridan's side again." Luis said, seriously. Pilar smiled and said, " Goodnight, son." "Goodnight, Mama," Luis said. Pilar walked out and Luis continued to wait for Sheridan to wake up.

Meanwhile outside, the doctor was about to go inside, when he looked through the window and saw Luis sitting with Sheridan. He was about to go inside to tell him to leave, but he noticed the way he looked at Sheridan. It was obvious that they were in love. They looked so cute. It was against policy to let someone stay, but he decided to make an exception. He felt that Luis really cared about Sheridan.

Inside Sheridan's room. Luis began to get a little tired. He considered going home, but didn't want to leave Sheridan. He smiled at her and thought, 'I could wait all night and day for her to wake up.' He brought his hand up to her face and gently caressed her cheek. Her skin was so soft and silky. He slowly leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on her lips. Then, he rested his head on her chest. He could hear and feel her heart pounding inside of her and it comforted him. Luis closed his eyes and fell asleep to the rhythm of her heart beat...
