Chapter 14: Desire

Chapter 14:

Luis decided to wait for a little while at Sheridan's house until she got back. He couldn't wait to see her. He couldn't wait to hold her in his arms and tell her how much he loved her. He saw how badly hurt Sheridan was and hoped that she would forgive him. Luis sat on the couch and waited for her. He looked over at a nightstand by the table. There was a small book laying on it. Luis wondered what it was. He picked it up and noticed that it was a photo album. Luis opened the photo album.

The first picture was surrounded by pretty little drawings and jewels. It was a picture of her mother on the beach. Her mother was very beautiful. She looked just like Sheridan. Luis turned the page and smiled when he saw Sheridan's first picture. Her mother was in the hospital and Sheridan was born that day. Sheridan was lying in her mother's arms, fast asleep. Luis awed as he looked at the picture. Sheridan was even beautiful as a baby. Luis continued to turn the pages and he found many pictures of Sheridan and her mother. They seemed to spend a lot of time together. After going through many pages, they seemed to not go out as often. Sheridan's mother was almost always sitting or lying down. Eventually, Luis came to the last page. It wasn't a picture this time. Instead, it was a note. Luis read it carefully...

My dearest Sheridan,

All of the times we have spent together, I promise I will remember forever... holding you close, looking into your beautiful eyes, having fun together, and staring into the skies. But now, I have to go away. I am so sorry, but I cannot stay. I will miss you with all of my heart, but in our spirits, we'll never be apart. And no matter what happens in this world, you will always be my little girl.

With all of my love,
Mommy
Luis felt tears well up in his eyes as he read the letter. Sheridan must have been heartbroken when her mother died. Luis knew how it felt to loose a father, but his father abandoned the family. Luis remembered how Sheridan said she was sent away to Paris after her mother died. That her family never cared about her after that. What an awful family she had! They didn't care about her at all. And after all of those men that had used her, Sheridan must have been dying inside. This only made Luis feel more guilty, knowing that he hurt Sheridan even more. Luis looked outside again, anxious for her to come home and leaned back against the couch. He closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep...

**DREAM**

Luis jumped out of his sleep in a cold sweat. He was breathing hard and had a look of fear on his face. Something didn't seem right. Something really felt wrong, but there couldn't be. Sheridan was fine. She had to be. She would be home shortly and he would be able to hold her in his arms. All he had to do was wait for a little while longer.

In the forest, a young man was walking through the woods with his wife and 5-year-old daughter. They were up in the forest for vacation and were taking a hike. The daughter, Julie, was always running up ahead. The parents didn't really like that, but they let her have fun. Julie ran around a corner and froze. A little bit down a hill, she saw a car that had crashed into a tree. Julie's mouth dropped open and she stared at it in shock for a few minutes. After a few seconds, Julie cried out, "Daddy, daddy. Come quick!" Seeing the panicked look on his daughter's face, the father rushed to her. "What's wrong, sweetheart?" Julie pointed down the hill at the car. The father and mother gasped at what they saw. "Oh my gosh," the father said. "I'd better go see if they are okay." The mother and Julie watched with concern as the father ran over to the car. He pried open the door and saw Sheridan in the car, unconscious and bleeding from the head. "There's an unconscious woman inside," the father said, "call an ambulance." The mother took out her phone and dialed 911. While she was telling them where the car crash was, the father pulled Sheridan out of the car and onto the ground. Julie walked over to her father and said, "Daddy. Is the lady okay?" "I don't know, sweetie. Thank god that you found her, Julie. Now maybe she has a chance to survive." The mother called, "Is there any identification on the body?" The father reached into Sheridan's pocket and pulled out her id card. "It seems that her name is... Sheridan Crane? Oh my gosh! The Sheridan Crane?..." "Honey! What's the woman's name?" shouted the mother. "Uh... uh... Sheridan Crane. Her name is Sheridan Crane." He shouted. "You know her Daddy?" said Julie. He answered, "This is a very famous person. She is from Harmony too." A few minutes later, an ambulance arrived to take Sheridan away.

Luis was still at Sheridan's cottage, waiting for her to come back. It had been quite a few hours and he was getting worried. He couldn't wait for her to get home so he could wrap his arms around her and tell her how much he loved her. Every once in a while, he would hear a car coming and jump to the window to see if it was her, but the car would always pass and Luis would frown and go back to the couch. Luis sat there waiting and waiting anxiously for her to get home. Suddenly, the phone rang. Luis hesitated to pick it up since it probably was for Sheridan, but he picked it up and said, "Hello?" "Hello. Is this Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald?" a voice said. "Yes, this is," Luis replied. The voice said, "Good. Pilar told me that you might be there." "What is it?" asked Luis. The person hesitated for a moment, then said, "I'm sorry, Luis, but there's been an accident. It's... it's Sheridan..."
