Chapter 13: Desire
Chapter 13:
At the Lopez-Fitzgerald house, Theresa and Pilar were in the living room.
Pilar was lecturing Theresa on staying away from Ethan. "Theresita, you have
to stop this quest to get Ethan to love in love with you." Theresa just
sighed, "Oh, but I can't help it, Mama. I know I can make him fall in love
with me. Fate wants us to be together." Pilar said, "Even if Ethan did fall
in love with you, there would be no way for you two to be together." "And why
is that?" asked Theresa. "Because his family would never allow it. They would
do whatever it takes to separate you. And I do mean anything." Pilar said.
Theresa asked, "Where is this coming from, Mama?" Pilar sighed and said,
"Well, Jullian told Luis that if he didn't stop seeing Sheridan, that she
would get hurt." "Oh my gosh." "Yes. Luis was very upset about it." Pilar
said. "Well, where is Luis now?" asked Theresa. Pilar replied, "He made up
his mind that he had to break up with Sheridan before she got hurt, so he
went to her cottage to tell her." "Oh my gosh. Sheridan will be heart
broken." Theresa said. "Yes. But I hope she understands that Luis is doing it
because he loves her." Pilar said.
They heard someone knocking on the door. Pilar went to answer it. When
she opened the door, she found Luis standing there. He was in tears and
looked like he had just been stabbed through the heart. He stared at his
mother for a moment before bursting into tears and hugging her. Pilar hugged
him back. "Oh my gosh. Luis, what happened?" Theresa came in and saw Luis.
"Oh my gosh, Luis." She walked over to him and hugged him.
After a few minutes of crying, Pilar and Theresa led Luis into the living
room and sat down with him on the couch. Pilar said, "Luis. What happened?
Did you talk to Sheridan?" Luis caught his breath and said, "Yes. I did. And
now I've destroyed her." Theresa asked, "What did she do?" Luis shook his
head slowly and said, "When I told her that I couldn't see her anymore, it
broke her heart. She just ran out of the cottage and drove away." "Oh Luis.
I'm so sorry," Pilar said, hugging her son. Theresa patted Luis on the back
and said, "Luis. Do you need anything?" "I... I just need to be alone for a
while." Theresa and Pilar nodded and Luis walked out of the house.
Luis thought that maybe a walk on the wharf would do him some good. He
just really needed a place to calm down right now. The sounds of the sea
always seemed to help. When Luis got to the house, the sun was just beginning
to set. The sky was so beautiful, with a mixture of pink and orange. It was
an amazing site. And the way the sky reflected off of the water was magical.
In a way, the sky reminded him of Sheridan, but he tried not to think of
that. It would only make him cry.
Luis continued to walk for a while. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks.
This was the spot where Luis and Sheridan kissed all those months ago.
Luis's bottom lip trembled as he remembered how it felt to hold Sheridan in
his arms. Her lips were so soft and sweet. That kiss was like magic. Luis
felt tears well up in his eyes as he thought about her. He turned around and
looked out at the sea, trying to get his mind off of Sheridan. Luis looked
over at a nearby bench and went to sit down on it. As he stared off into the
water, he couldn't get his mind off of Sheridan. He looked into the water and
saw her beautiful reflection smiling back at him. Looking at him with stars
in her eyes and a smile on her face. Suddenly, a fish jumped out of the water
and the reflection disappeared. He was missing her so much, he was starting
to see things, and feel things too. It almost felt like Sheridan's arms were
wrapped around him, holding him close. Luis quivered as he imagined her in
his arms. He would give anything to touch her again. To hold her close and
kiss her. Suddenly, he heard a song...
Baby, I didn't want things to end this way.
But I promise you, everything will be okay.
Someday soon, I will hold you in my arms again.
So don't you cry, it's not the end.
(Bridge)
Just wait a little bit longer,
and our love will grow stronger.
Just remember that my love is true.
I'll never stop loving you.
(Chorus)
I will love you forever,
and someday soon, we'll be together.
I'll have faith in you, if you have faith in me.
We'll be together soon, cause we're meant to be...
Luis couldn't take it anymore. He buried his face in his eyes and sobbed.
He had never felt so awful in his life, but what was he supposed to do. If he
stayed with Sheridan, she might have ended up hurt. He could never forgive
himself if something happened to her. But he could have protected her from
the Cranes. He should have done everything in his power to stay with her. He
would have been able to protect her, but he didn't. Luis knew what he had to
do. He jumped up and said, "I'm going to find Sheridan, and I'm going to get
her back." Luis ran out of the wharf and back to his house.
He raced into the living room and Pilar said, "Luis. What are you doing?"
Pilar noticed that he was grabbing his car keys and his jacket. "I'm going
over to Sheridan's. I'll going to get her back." "What? But Luis, Jullian
said that__." "I don't care what Jullian says Mama. I... I love her. I love
her with all of my heart. I will not let Jullian ruin our future. I will not
let them tare us apart like this. I will protect her. I can't live without
her and I can't stand to be apart from her." Before Pilar could protest, Luis
was out the door. Luis got into the car and drove quickly to Sheridan's car.
He had hoped that she would listen to him. He hoped that she would forgive
him and they could just get back to where they left off. Luis just didn't
want to see her cry anymore. He hated to see her in pain. He really just
hoped her hadn't done something. She seemed pretty upset when he talked to
her and he hoped that she didn't do something drastic. Luis pull up to the
cottage and got out. He ran to the door and knocked. "Sheridan. Sheridan.
Open the door." There was no answer. Luis turned the door and it opened. Luis
ran into the house. "Sheridan? Sheridan! Where are you? We need to talk.
Sheridan!" Luis searched the house, but couldn't find her. He walked back
into the living room and said, "Everything's exactly the way I left it. She
must have not come back yet. Luis looked outside and saw that it was starting
to rain again. Thunder and lightning crashed. Luis looked out the window and
his heart pounded as he heard the pitter-patter of the rain drops on the
windows. She was in no condition to drive. She looked awful when she left.
God, what if something had happened to her? He prayed to god that nothing did
happen, but he decided to stay for a little while for her to come home. He
sat on the couch and he tried to shake off this strange feeling her had...
