Chapter 12: Desire
Chapter 12:
Luis drove slowly in his car towards Sheridan's house. As hard as he
tried, he couldn't stop crying. It was going to be so hard to not see
Sheridan again, but he had to. He had to protect her from getting hurt, and
if that meant not being able to see her, than so be it. There was no turning
back now. He was going to do this. There were times when he thought about
turning around and going back home. He couldn't stand the thought of breaking
things off with Sheridan. He wanted to just forget about it all and tell
Jullian that there was nothing he would do that could tare them apart. But
his mind kept on wandering to Sheridan. He kept on thinking about how
terrible it would be if Sheridan got hurt because of him. He would never
forgive himself. He had to do what Jullian asked, no matter how painful.
He was pulled from his thoughts when he heard someone honking behind him.
He snapped back to reality and realized that he had been driving at ten miles
an hour. He waved sorry back to the driver behind him and started to drive
faster. When he got to Sheridan house, he parked the car and prayed that
Sheridan wouldn't be there yet. Then, he might give him time to think about
how he was going to say this. He knew that this would hurt Sheridan to hear
that he couldn't see her anymore. It would break her heart, but he had to...
he had to do it, for her own good.
Luis walked up to the cottage and realized that Sheridan was inside. Luis
sighed sadly and walked up to the door. He just hoped that Sheridan was in a
good mood. He raised his hand to knock on the door, but he paused before he
knocked. He had to gain control of himself, or he would break down and give
in to her. He had to keep in his mind that he couldn't let Sheridan get hurt.
He knocked on the door and Sheridan came to answer it.
When she opened the door, she was happy to see Luis standing there. Even
though it had only been a few hours, she still missed him terribly. "Oh
Luis," she cheered. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him
passionately. Luis pulled back quickly so that he wouldn't fall into the
kiss, but Sheridan didn't stop. She kissed his cheek and his neck. Sheridan
was in such a good mood to see him, it would be even harder to break up with
Sheridan. She seemed so happy. He didn't want to ruin that... No, no. He had
to stick to this. He had to do this.
He pulled Sheridan away from him. Sheridan was shocked. "Luis. What is
it?" Luis said, "Sheridan. We need to talk, now." Sheridan's smile faded and
she said, "Okay." Luis took her hand and they walked over to the couch. They
sat down on the couch, facing each other. Outside, they heard thunder and it
started to quietly rain, as if the sky was crying for them. Luis brought his
hand up to her face and rubbed it gently. His stomach turned, knowing that he
would never be able to touch her, or kiss her, or stare into her beautiful
eyes again. Sheridan could sense that there was something wrong in his eyes,
but what? "Luis. Tell me. What's wrong?" Luis looked at the floor and up at
Sheridan. "Sheridan... I... I love you. I love you with all of my heart." "Oh
Luis. I love you too." "...I... I can't bear the thought of you getting
hurt..." "Neither can I Luis__." Sheridan said. "Sheridan. Please let me
finish... Anyway, I care about you too much for you to get hurt. No matter
how painful it is, I must protect you." Sheridan was even more confused then
ever. "Luis. What are you trying to say?" Luis felt tears well up in his eyes
again and he said, "Sheridan. I can't see you anymore."
Sheridan's small smile fell into a shocked look as she heard the words
that she never wanted to hear come out of Luis's mouth. "What?" she asked
softly. Luis gulped and said, "Sheridan. I can't be with you anymore." Almost
as instantly as he said it, a few tears trailed down Sheridan's cheeks. She
let go of Sheridan's hand and slowly stood up. "You're... you're breaking up
with me?" Luis stood up, "Sheridan, please__." He stopped as he looked at
Sheridan's heartbroken face. It killed him to see her like this. Sheridan
slowly shook her head and whispered, "I can't believe this is happening. I
thought that you were the one." "Sheridan, don't__." Luis said.
Before Luis could finish his sentence, Sheridan ran out the door in
tears. Luis tried to go after her, but she was gone before he got to the
door. As soon as she left, thunder struck loudly and it started to rain
harder. Tears fell from Luis's eyes. This was the most horrible day of his
life. He looked out into the sky and said, "I love you, Sheridan. I'll always
love you." Then, Luis broke into sobs and fell onto his knees. He buried his
face in his hands and cried harder than he ever had in his life. He curled up
into a ball on the floor and cried for what seemed like an eternity of pain.
Sheridan drove though the rain, in tears. She couldn't believe what was
happening. Luis was breaking up with her. What? Was she not good enough for
him? Did he not love her anymore? She really thought that he was the one. She
really thought that he was the person she would spend the rest of her life
with. But she was wrong. Luis and she would never be together. He didn't feel
the same way about her.
Sheridan was crying so hard, that it was getting hard for her to see, but
she had to keep going. She wanted to get away. Get away from Harmony and
everything that reminded her of Luis. She made a promise to herself that she
would never come back to Harmony again. It was too painful. She hated being
there. She hated Jullian, she hated Alistair, she hated Hank, she hated Beth,
she hated everyone, except for Luis. She loved him, more than anything, but
that was why she had to leave. She couldn't stand to look at him and know
that he could never be her's. Sheridan was so out of it, that she didn't see
the turn up ahead, she swerved to dodge the tree, but it was too late. Her
car flipped over and tumbled over and over until it landed upside down.
Sheridan hit her head and blacked out...
