Chapter 1:
After Julian tried to shoot Luis, he and Sheridan decided not to see each
other anymore. Sheridan stopped working at the youth center. She couldn't
handle seeing Luis and not be able to be with him. She moved out of her
cottage and to a condo on the beach. Ethan move into the cottage. He and
Gwen broke up after realizing he loved Theresa. Luis would not allow Theresa
to date Ethan for fear of Julian hurting her. Sheridan got a job working at
the hospital. She had to do something to keep her mind off Luis. All day
long she thought of Luis and all night long she dreamt of him. It was always
the same dream everynight. She had flashes of all that has happened between
them. When they first met, the tango, Santa Fe, New Year's Eve, their first
real date. The one night that always lingered in her mind was the night of
their second date. Luis had taken her to the pool hall. She felt
uncomfortable at first. All the people were staring at them, plus she didn't
know how to play pool. Once they learned to ignore everyone it became really
fun, especially when Luis had to put his arms around her to teach her how to
play. After they finished playing Luis took Sheridan home. He once again
asked permission to kiss her. Sheridan said yes (how could she not?). Luis
leaned in, kissing her fully on the lips this time. This surprised Sheridan.
It was the best kiss she ever had. Luis was so strong, but also so gentle.
This scene replayed in her mind over and over again, until she woke up.
Sometimes Ethan would come to visit and find her sleeping mumbling Luis' name
over and over again. Ethan felt so bad for his aunt. She had finally found
her one true love but she couldn't have him because of Julian and Alistair.
Ethan had to do something. He hated seeing Sheridan so depressed. He also
was depressed. He couldn't see his true love, Theresa, either. Ethan
couldn't understand how he and Sheridan could be so different from the rest
of their family. It was like they weren't even Cranes.
"Maybe we aren't really Cranes" Ethan said.
"Mmmmm…" Sheridan mumbled. "Ethan?""Good morning Sheridan," Ethan said.
"What are you so anxious about?" Sheridan asked.
"I just had a thought. What if you and I aren't really Cranes?"
"What?!?" Sheridan exclaimed. "What do you mean 'what if we aren't Cranes'?"
"Think about it Sheridan. We are nothing like the rest of out family. And
you don't really know anything about your mother. Maybe Alistair isn't
really your father. And my mother and father have always had a loveless
marriage. Is it possible that my mother was having an affair?"
"You're right," Sheridan said. For once Ethan was making sense and not being
stupid.
"Maybe chief Bennett will let us look at some records at the police station,"
Ethan suggested.
"Ethan, I can't go there and risk running into Luis. It would hurt too much
to see him."
"I'll talk to Sam and make sure we go when Luis won't be working okay?"
"Yeah Okay""I'll go call Sam and be right back."
Ethan went into Sheridan's living room to use the phone.
'If I'm not really a Crane, then I could see Luis and father would have no
say in it.' Sheridan thought.Ethan came back into the bedroom.
"I talked to chief Bennett. He said we can come tonight. Luis gets off at
6, and he's there until 10," Ethan explained."Great!" Sheridan replied.
"How come you're so happy all of a sudden?"
"I was just thinking. If we aren't Cranes, the I can date Luis and you can
date Theresa. There's nothing they can do about it."
"Oh my god! You're right!" Ethan ran over and hugged his aunt tightly.

Chapter 2:
Later that night about 6:30pm
“I think it’s safe to go now.” Ethan said.“yeah, we can take my car”
they arrived at the police station. There was no sign of Luis’ jeep anywhere,
so they went in. they immediately spotted Sam.
“Hi chief Bennett” Ethan said, walking over to him.
“Hello Ethan, Sheridan. How are you?”“Good but nervous” Sheridan answered.
“You can use the computer in my office so you can have some privacy.” Sam said
as he led them into his office.
“Thank you. You have no idea how much we appreciate this” Ethan stated.
“It’s no problem really. I’ll be out at Luis’ desk if you need anything” Sam
said“Thanks” Sheridan said
They started by looking up Sheridan’s birth certificate. On it, it said her
mother’s name. Then underneath that it said Alistair Crane with an asterisk
next to it.
“I wonder what that asterisk means” Sheridan looked at Ethan to see if maybe he
knew.“I don’t know. Let’s look down below to see if it says anything.”
They scrolled down and the computer said an asterisk meant that the name had
been changed. Sheridan and Ethan looked at eachother in shock.
