Random Thoughts
I once again reume this
column to
go over some thing that I have observed, but I do think think I could
write
an entire column on them. Like my foot fungus. I mean, how much is
there
to tell?
CBS delays The Amazing Race:
CBS is delaying the 6th season of The Amazing Race until late October,
nearly a month after it was supposed to air. CBS says they're giving
viewers
a chance to catch their breath (which is entirely plausible considering
Tuesday's episode- the most intense thing on tv in a very long time),
but
me thinks something different is going on. Back when CBS announced that
TAR was going it air on Saturdays, it was May. TAR was never a big hit,
but could bring a solid audience to Saturdays and lift the networks
18-49er
fortunes on the night. Then it airs the show over the summer on Tuesday
and it breaks out. A few weeks it was the top rated series of the week
in adults, and rarely, if ever, fell out of the top 5. So what's a
network
to do? Air the show on Saturdays where'll it'll lose all the long
overdue
buzz and shear its ratings by a third? While slightly under "Judging
Amy"s
regular season numbers in total viewers, it double said show's
performance
in adults. My guess? CBS, with a shortage of hurting timeslots, will
find
a week night for the show. Potential slots include Tuesday at 9pm and
10pm
and Friday at 10. Why not move the rapidly aging "Amy" to Saturdays at
10pm and let TAR grow into the hit it's bound to become? Don't waste
this
opportunity, CBS!
Father Of The Pride:
While 9.6 million viewers is nothing to crow about, the fact that the
show
held all of it's audience from week 2 to week 3 (when series typically
still lose viewers) is a very good sign indeed. The show is not as bad
a people make it out to be quality wise (not great either), and it's
only
scheduled to air 13 episodes this season. If it can hold at these
levels,
NBC, with a lack of sitcoms with any promise, will be hard pressed not
to go for a second season. The reason for cancellation? If anything,
it'll
come down to cost, but it doesn't hurt that Tuesday's episode was
basically
an informercial for 7-11.
Fox's Impending Collapse:
Just how bad is this season going to be for Fox? This fall, to say the
least, it going to be catastrophic. Thought ABC 2001 was bad? With its
line-ups until November airing on Monday thu Saturday, the network
averaged
just 6.1mil viewers, bounced by football on Sunday. Monday and Friday
are
disasters like Fox has not yet seen, while Wednesday is not as big as
it
was over the summer. And with "Idol" likely peaking last season, it's
going
to be a very tough year for Fox.
ABC Rebounding:
Something quite miraculous is happening over on ABC. After years of
floundering,
the alphabet is finally looking up. "The Benefactor" premiered strong,
"George Lopez" is on the verge of breaking out, "Less Than Perfect" is
looking good on Fridays and "Home Edition" is looking strong no matter
where the network repeats it. With heavily hyped series like "Desparate
Housewives" and "Wife Swap" coming up, things will only get better from
here on out.
