I was going to chronical more combined series today, but after the
cancellations
of three more series yesterday, there's a more pressing issue at hand.
What happened to all the mid season shows?
Nothing, absolutely nothing, seems to be working for the nets in this
area
this season. Last season saw "My Wife & Kids," "What About Joan?"
"The
Mole" all do well, but no show seems to have that spark this season. So
here's a break down, net by net, or what's working, (and usually)
what's
not.
ABC:
Series:
The
George Lopez
Show: To Premiere Wednesday, March 27th
Wednesday
9:30pm,
8:30 central: To Premiere Wednesday, March 27th
The Court:
Premiered Tuesday, March 26th.
Record:
Week 1: 11.4mil
We still don't know if they
really love you,
Ms. Fields, but the premiere numbers aren't extremely promising.
The Bachelor:
Premiered Monday, March 25th
Record:
Week 1: 9.8mil
With the kind of trouble ABC
is having on
Mondays this season (sometimes losing to the WB), this could spell a
hit.
Look back in week 2.
The Wayne
Brady Show: Cancelled
Record:
Week 1: 7.1mil
Week 2: 4.6mil
After a brief hit summer run,
this show just
never got started mid-season.
The Chair:
Cancelled
Record:
Week 1: 12.5mil
Week 2: 10.0mil
Week 3: 10.6mil
Week 4: 9.4mil
Week 5: 6.2mil
Week 6: 7.0mil
Week 7: 4.8mil
Seemed to get off to a strong
start, but got
cuaght up in the Olympics, and fans fleed when it moved to Mondays.
CBS
Series:
American
Fighter
Pilots (premieres Friday, March 28th)
The Amazing
Race 2: Premiered Monday, March 11th
Week 1
9.7mil/12.5mil
Week 2: 13.5mil
Airing right after "Survivor"
certainly helps,
once "Marquesas" moves back to Thursdays, look for al return to normal,
mediocre levels.
Baby Bob
(Premiered Monday, March 17th)
Week 1: 15.6mil
Week 2: 14.4mil
Not bad at all. A strong
premiere, little
drop off in its second epiosde, could we have a winner?
Survivor:
Marquesas (Premiered Thursday, February 28)
Week 1: 23.2mil
Week 2: 23.5mil
Week 3: 20.5mil
(aired on Wednesday)
Week 4: 22.8mil
(aired on Wednesday)
CBS has to be doing cartwheels
over this one.
While the last two "Survivor"s dropped off substantially after their
premieres,
this one hasnn't. And ratings are significantly above those of "Africa."
First Monday
(Premiered in January)
Week 1: 14.6mil (aired on
Tuesday)
Week 2: 12.0mil
Week 3: 10.5mil
Week 4: 10.2mil
Week 5: 7.4mil
Week 6: 8.0mil
A strong debut quickly trailed
off. Could
it have been the Olympics? All signs point to yes. When is it coming
back?
This Friday. That will be a big indicator.
NBC
Series:
Watching
Ellie: (Premiered Tuesday, February 26th)
Week 1: 16.7mil
Week 2: 12.1mil
Week 3: 11.1mil
Week 4: 9.5mil
Week 5: 8.8mil
A very strong debut thanks to
a huge promotional
push. But ratings have been halved, the show is going on hiatus, and
viewers
don't really care.
Leap of Faith:
(Premiered Thrusday, February 28th)
Week 1: 20.9mil
Week 2: 18.7mil
Week 3: 15.2mil
Week 4: 15.3mil
Another strong debut, but
ratings feel when
"Friends" when into repeats. But the ratings haven't fallen that badly.
Could NBC have patience with this show.
With "Friends" leaving next
season, I'd say
yes.
The Colin
Quinn Show: (Premiered Monday, March 11th)
Week 1: 7.3mil
Week 2: 7.3mil
Week 3: 6.4mil
Well, at least ratings have
been very stable....
despite that fact it lost more than 50% of its lead-in, shows no
promised,
and most Americans have no idea who "Colin Quinn" is. Good night, there
is no pleasant tomorrow.
Imagine That
(Cancelled)
Week 1: 6.8mil
Week 2: 6.0mil
A disaster to start with, NBC
had absolutely
no faith in the show. And viewers responded in kind.
Tomorrow:
A
report on the WB, UPN and Fox, who had the biggest mid-season losers.
